The next week, you stood in the threshold of the living room, watching as your family talked with one another. Azriel was seated in a chair in the middle and you had a plate with just his food on it. For some reason, you were very nervous. What if after all this time he decided he didn’t want to be bonded to you forever? What if he decided he wanted to go off and try again with Mor? Or someone else? Just as you were about to spiral forever, you felt a small tug on the bond, deep down. He looked over to you, the smile on his face growing. 

Your family quieted down and looked towards you. You felt heat rush to your face. This should’ve been something you did intimately, now that you thought about it. But you also knew that you wanted to share this moment with each person who allowed you to be here. 

Rhys and Feyre sat at the very end of the table next to Elain, Mor and (surprisingly) Nesta were across from them. On the other side of your eventual seat was Cassian. Across from you and Azriel was Amren and Varian. Wessian and Varyn sat across from each other on the other side of Cass and Varian. 

Each one of your family members were dressed impeccably. The females had on lovely evening gowns. You knew that Feyre and Rhys were hosting a small get together after this at the River Home, which had just finished being built. You and Azriel would not be in attendance. 

The males were in nice, slick pants, topped with a tunic or collared shirts. You’d never seen Cassian clean up so nicely. 

“Everyone.” You cleared your throat, stepping through the threshold. “Tonight is the night that my mate and I officially accept the bond.” You said, your eyes on Azriel’s. His shirt was tight against the muscles below, his wings spread out in a way of teasing you. Your dress was a mix of ivory and black with details that looked like shadows swirling around. Once your mating was done (and you were sure Azriel wouldn’t try to kill anyone who looked at you), you and Azriel would go to the temple and swear vows to be married. You may be attached to him through the bond, but you wanted for it to be through the law as well. And so did he. 

“Thank you all for coming. Please, have as much fun as you want once we leave.” You said and walked up to Azriel, a bright smile on your face. He looked at your with all the love and adoration in the world. “Azriel… I love you to no end. And I will love you forever. I offer you this food as my acceptance of the Mother’s blessing. Our mating bond.” You said and held out the plate to him. 

You could almost feel everyone holding their breath before Azriel took the plate in his hands, and began eating. Everyone cheered and you laughed, one of Azriel’s scarred hands came towards yours and squeezed it. Something told you that once he was finished with the food, he would want to leave. Immediately. So you sat down next to him, eating a little bit of your own food as you watched him eat every last bite, not leaving a single thing. As if on cue, you felt the bond snap further, driving your desire for him immediately into the roof. You could see it in his eyes, you were in a whirlwind of a week. Or month. Gods, you hope it was a month. 

You giggled as he didn’t even wait to start kissing you, pulling you up from the chair and kissing your neck. “Thank you all for coming.” You said and laughed when Azriel growled as they all tried to speak to you. You felt the shadows consume you and he winnowed to the outer bounds of the cabin. 

You clumsily flew the rest of the way to the front door. You giggled as Azriel picked you up and carried you through the door, immediately pushing you against the wall. “I think this is the most romantic you’ve ever been.” You joked. 

“I think this is the sexiest you’ve ever been.” He said down the bond. Your eyes widened as you kissed him deeply. “That’s right, sweetheart, I don’t even need to ask to know you want me as much as I want you.” 

You sent a vulgar gesture down the bond, kissing his neck. “Would you just fuck me already?” You asked, looking up at him. 

“No, sweetheart,” he said out loud, looking deeply into your eyes. “I’m going to make love to you, many, many times tonight. And then I’m going to fuck you until you’re begging me for a break.” He rasped. 

If your legs weren’t wrapped around his waist, you would’ve dropped to your knees for him right there. “I’ll start begging now.” You said, trailing your hands towards his wings. “Please, Az, make love to me.” You whispered. 

A soft growl came from deep within his throat before he winnowed you within the cabin to the bedroom. He set you before the bed, turning you around to take off your dress slowly. He took his time kissing every part of your body, telling you why he loved it. From your neck, your shoulders, your hips, your stomach. All the way down to your core. He spent extra long on that part, devouring you until he brought you to your climax. 

You returned the favor, getting on your knees and sucking him until he finished in your mouth. The bond was in full force the entire night. 

When he finally laid you down on the bed and entered you, he held you hands above your head, intertwining your fingers. You moaned his name and he did the same with yours. 

You stared into each other's eyes as you both came. And in those moments afterwards, when you curled against him, hearts beating in sync, you realized you finally found your place in the world. After going through so much, you would spend the rest of your life with your mate. Maybe soon you would try for a child, have a little Shadowsinger running around. Or maybe you would take your sweet time with your mate, getting to know every single fact about him for another 170 years of your life before you had children with him. 

Whatever path you took, you knew that you would be happy with Azriel. With your mate. And most importantly, with yourself.

What disgusts me the most about what Chris Sonnenburg did is that Cassandra was actually beloved in the fandom too.

Both her and Varian were fan favorites.

He had no reason to be pissed off. Cassandra was and still is well loved by a lot of fans, it's what he wanted, right?

He didn't need to do any of the shit he did.

Exactly! Cass was easily the most popular series exclusive character ("at worst" she and Varian were equally as popular). At most Rapunzel and Eugene were more popular than her, but that's understandable. Though, from what I've heard he struggled to accept that too, just couldn't do much about it, because of the rules Disney has in terms of the Tangled franchise.

I just feel like Varian fans might've come across as louder and more present, because he was much rarer to show up in an episode, so whenever he did, it was worth being loud over. We often went over a year without seeing him.

Like, I'm saying all this as someone who used to prefer Cass over Varian, CS just really shot himself in the foot here. I used to love Cass so much and though I definitely loved Varian too, I understood why he didn't show up as often and just enjoyed the show for what it was. Even in s2 I didn't really miss him yet.

It wasn't until the s2 finale, when that bullshit Cass "plot twist" and her bullshit "villain" arc happened and we got a clear picture of what CS really thought of Varian and his fans, that my preference really started to shift towards Varian and when he became my main reason for still watching the show.

I still remember how many Cass fans disowned her character after the s2 finale and CS only got himself to blame for that.

Guess we can at least be at peace knowing CS doesn't work for Disney anymore and I heard he's apparently been blacklisted to some extend in the industry. Good riddance.

14. What types of characters would they gravitate towards in fiction? drop their kinlist

Eldwin: Definitely family-oriented characters. Hmm I can't really drop a kinlist because I don't know very many characters lol (during that vibes poll trend I quickly realised I consume very little media 😭) but yeah characters who would give up everything for their family, maybe have a sad backstory relating to family like Sanemi from Demon Slayer, also Tanjiro and Nezuko. This is not just me projecting but honestly Childe from genshin, tragic backstory, blood-thirsty weapon for the Tsaritsa, but he adores his little siblings and will do anything to protect them? Yeah that sort of character.

Jowan: GOOD FATHERS. I'm sorry but even his repressed ass would be a sucker for soft family dynamics. I haven't seen more than like two episodes but I think he'd feel something watching Bluey. I couldn't say he'd cry, because it's Jowan. But he'd feel something.

Also maybe Shinobu (from demon slayer) if you don't know she's a doctor, she seems sweet and is always smiling but it's a mask because underneath she's burning with anger and stole the personality of her dead sister. Yeah he'd probably think that's interesting.

Ancassius: Tengen Uzui. I'm sorry he was the first one who popped into my head he'd love Tengen. Bold, flashy, absolutely adores his wives above anything else - yeah. Tengen-type characters. (sorry I rly like Demon Slayer it's basically all I know.)

Kieran: He'd gravitate towards characters who grow from hardship. Characters who have been through so much but instead of choosing anger they fight to be good. Characters who could easily become assholes, but they wake up every day and actively choose kindness.

20. What was your first thought in creating them?

Okay, so Eldwin was my very first oc ever made, probably at least 6, 7 years ago now. Obviously, I wanted someone to whump. That's basically the sole reason lmao. I also wanted to explore historical fiction - it was initially very light fantasy, basically victorian london with elves and magic, but as since bloomed into a world of it's own.

Jowan was literally just a tool for lab whump. That's it. I based his personality loosely on Varian from Tangled: The Series, but he was never supposed to have been a full fleshed-out character. Then I made him a little too silly and a little too sad and whoops here we are. I'm glad though, I love him and I'm happy others seem to love him too <3

Ancassius I thought it would be pretty fun for him to compliment Eldwin as a character. I mean if Eldwin's edgy and serious and gloomy, Ancassius is bright and cheerful and hopeful, I thought they'd be fun together. In super early drafts they just worked together, but then I thought Eldwin needed a friend, so now they're the childhood friends angst. Yay for them!

Kieran. Because Eldwin is much more morally-grey, I wanted to play with the archetype of a sweet and kind whumpee. I also wanted to play with a famous whumpee but things didn't turn out that way lol, so that's still on the table for a future character.

31. Who are they afraid of?

Eldwin:

Is it cliché if I say himself lol. Okay, maybe...he's afraid of a lot of people. I think he still is afraid of Alistair just because he doesn't know what he's about, and he can't read him. He's been nice to Eldwin so far (notreallybuteldwinthinksso) but there's just... something about him. Not like Mordwen, who has this vague otherworldly-ness about her, no Alistair is very much mortal. Just... I mean, he's the leader of a mafia for a reason. And Eldwin's certainly heard rumours. I think he can't predict Alistair at all, and that frustrates and scares him.

He's afraid of Mordwen even though he rarely see's her anymore, not since he doesn't need her to teach him magic. But he still remembers what she was like, and the crushing feeling of wrongness when she's in the room. Almost like being in a dream...

He's afraid of Clyde and Nels only a little bit, just because he knows Clyde will punish him just for the sake of it. With Nels, it's less that Eldwin's afraid of Nels himself, and more that he's afraid of messing up around him because he trusts Nels to only punish him when he deserves it, but that still doesn't make it easy. I think he's also afraid of disappointing him not because of punishment but because he likes Nels...

He was once terrified of Vor'gol (his pact demon) but that fear has waned in recent years hearing nothing from him. He probably should be more afraid, but alas.

JOWAN:

Well, it was his Father, but he's been dead for several years. Hmm I think he's simultaneously afraid of everyone and yet of no one, know what I mean? Don't worry I'm not sure I do either.

I'll say Clyde makes him nervous though. Clyde has never and will never harm him, Jowan is working there willingly after all, but... he's just intimidating, and it's quite clear that he doesn't like Jowan.

ANCASSIUS:

Merfolk, in general. Which is a bit unfair as most of them are fine, but some of them are like... well I saw some like sea-naga art I reblogged ages ago, with I think hypnosis, and well, it inspired me haha. Reckon he's probably also made a few enemies in his time. Generally though Ancassius is very confident and it's hard for him to be afraid of a person.

KIERAN:

Lukas, of course. Need I say more? Also Heather to an extent, but we may or may not talk about that in the next fic, depends what I'm doing LOL.

It was Lukas' friends who got Lukas into making the red room and snuff content in the first place, he met some shady people. I wonder if Kieran will ever meet them too?

This is his vibe very pink very girly and farm-esk He is 16 and he lives on the farm may is home schooled ^^ he’s uh he’s queer if you couldn’t tell :3 hm his eyes are always closed I don’t quite know why yet I guess he’ll tell me later on! He has a pink truck that is like bell swans truck from twilight!! Except it’s pink ><! He loves the summer and has jumped into multiple lakes fully clothed he will have staring contest with the sun except it sort of hurts his eyes since they’re green he loves reading on the bench swing his family has on the porch!! I think he’s read pride and prejudice for sure! His voice claim I have for him is Varian from the rapunzel series!! (Idk how to spell her name) he absolutely loves sitting in the back of his truck and watching the sunset or laying on the hood of his truck!! He will climb out the window and onto the roof to look at the star :) his favorite time of day is sunset hm him and his friends have 100% gone to a convenient store late at night and stolen stuff he absolutely adores summer fairs and loves all the rides!! When he’s angry he will stomp his hooves on the ground hehe!! He’s usually very docile and kind his height is like hm 5’11 I’d say? Idk ^^ he loves eating hay and alfalfa for sure he loves pink drinks from Starbucks!! He has carried baby chickens around in his overalls as well he hates frogs for some reason they gross him out a lot oh he plays stardew valley in his free time as well he keeps his switch with him all time anywhere with the pink bag he carries around! ALSO YES YES YES I HAVE. I watched it back in 2020 and loved it! Its probably one of the shows that changed my brain chemistry in terms of art style (tangled and steven universe were both HUGE art inspos for me)

Laughing cuz you dropped SO MUCH TANGLED STUFF ON YOUR BLOG and i was hit with that tumblr meme of "guess we're doing tangled now"

This series was soooo good. Loved cassandra. She was my girl. Her and rap's relationship was mwah. Just...man everything they explored in this show. It added so much to the characters we saw in the movie. Not to mention how good the series exclusive characters are like cassandra, varian, and lance. (Which cough. As much as i like raps/eugene by midway through the show i became a raps/cass and lance/eugene shipper sjfjskak i love me some tragic yuri and best friend yaoi what can i say). But yes 10/10 show.

Funnily enough I feel im always subtly pulling inspiration from this series. Theres a moment in this show that inspired a really key climactic scene in TMNP for me. I also have an orchestral version of "ready as ill ever be" for an unrelated story that perfectly matches the vibes of a certain scene. One day ill get around to making an animatic with it.

part twenty-four

❝ SAVAGE ❞

TUESDAY — JULY 24 — 4:10PM

“BENTLEY, IT'S TIME TO GO,”

Bentley peeled his eyes open, blinking rapidly in an attempt to bat away the foggy fatigue that had been taking up residence in his brain for the entire school day. Varian was sitting in the chair next to him at their two-person desk, watching with wary brown eyes.

Bentley glanced up, cataloging the US History classroom. Students were filing out, and Dr. Ray was sitting at his desk on his phone, looking pretty disinterested, like always. Bentley blinked a few more times to right himself, lifting his head from the desk and rubbing his eyes.

“He saw you, but I guess he didn’t mind to let you sleep,” Varian replied with a shrug. “You definitely need it. I can give you the notes later.”

Bentley stretched slightly, grabbing his bag off the floor. “Thanks, Varian.”

“Hey, no problem. I’ve had my share of long nights. Especially with this,” He tapped the insulin pump on his arm. 

Bentley didn’t really know what to say to that, so he didn’t. Instead, he stood up and threw his bag over his shoulder.

He hadn’t meant to fall asleep, really — but after staying up until one a.m. in the living area with his roommates and then waking up from the most horrifying nightmare he’d ever had at three (and not going back to bed after), he was pretty much running on empty. He’d fallen asleep in art, too, and his teacher smacked his table with a yardstick.

Varian was doing much better than he was, which was surprising, considering he’d stayed up just as late and then insisted on being up with Bentley after the nightmare instead of going back to bed. He tried to brush him off and tell him he needed to get sleep, too, but Varian didn’t care. Which was kind of nice, he guessed. He got someone to talk to and Asten got to go back to bed. (After arguing about it for, like, an hour.)

So all in all, Bentley was very tired, and he had a lot of notes he needed to copy after he and Koa practiced for soccer tryouts. (Yay?)

For right now, his main goal would be making it to his dorm without falling asleep standing.

“Have a good day, Dr. Ray,” Varian called as the two of them made their way through the classroom door and into the hall. They were the last ones out — even Layla had gone and disappeared before them.

Bentley sighed lightly as they walked, tugging his back further up on his shoulder. 

“Y’know, I’m practicing with Koa too today, if you want to rest. He won’t be alone,” Varian said lightly, and Bentley felt his eyes on him from his spot to his left. “The only reason I missed yesterday was because the decathlon team had a meeting. From now on they meet during free period instead of after school, so I’ll be able to practice.”

Bentley hummed. Not having to run around for three hours kicking a ball sounded heavenly right about then, but he also didn’t want to leave Koa out to dry. They just started practicing yesterday, he couldn’t bail yet.

“I think I’ll go. Might wake me up some,” He suggested, and Varian smiled faintly.

“In that case, I can’t wait to see your moves,” Varian said with a smirk. “Koa talked all about how you were a natural yesterday. Even better than I was when I started, according to him.”

Bentley made a pfft sound. “I highly doubt that. I’ve never played a sport in my life.”

“Neither had I, when I started,” There was a sudden trio of beeps from Varian’s insulin pump, and Bentley glanced over at him as he slid his arm out of his blazer and checked the little screen. “Ah. I knew I was starting to feel a little like death.”

Bentley blinked as Varian slid his blazer back on. “You gonna be okay?”

He shrugged. “I’ve been worse. The walk back to the dorm shouldn’t be too bad. It really only feels like the flu — if you were, like, about to die from it. I didn’t eat much at lunch trying to keep the number stable but… now it’s kinda dive-bombing.”

“That doesn’t sound ‘not too bad’ to me,” Bentley muttered as they made a left at the next hall, toward the entrance of the building.

“Nah. I’d tell you if I was about to, like, barf or pass out or something. Luckily we’re not there yet,” Varian replied with another shrug.

“Hey, Wayne!”

Bentley and Varian both pivoted on their heels when a fluttery falsetto called out from behind them. Unsurprisingly, a familiar blonde that made Bentley cringe was coming to meet them from an adjacent hall.

Varian blinked twice, and Bentley saw the willpower it took not to roll his eyes as Chloe Singh caught up with them in the hallway. Her blonde hair was pin-straight today, reaching nearly to her waistline. She was wearing sparkly gold eyeliner that made her brown eyes pop, and had on a Redwood Academy sweater vest with her skirt instead of the typical blazer.

“… Hey,” Bentley replied, sharing a quick glance with Varian. Chloe came up to rest on his right side, falling into step with them. (No matter how fast they kept walking, she stayed right there next to them.)

“Hey there,” She smiled when she reached them, and Bentley wondered if she brushed her teeth with bleach, as white as they were. “I have a question for you.”

“Me?” Bentley inhaled sharply (and thankfully, softly.) “Okay?”

“Since I’m rich, and you’re rich, and I’m hot, and you’re hot, I think we should go to the dance together,” She said, turning to go through the glass front doors of the building. Bentley and Varian quickly joined her, the warm air all but knocking into them. It blew Chloe’s hair behind her shoulders, and it was so long it hit Bentley in the face.

“That wasn’t a question,” He replied curtly, swatting her hair away from him and continuing to walk up the sidewalk next to Varian. The sky was gray instead of blue, and storm clouds were threatening to drop rain on them at any moment. Sidewalks and endless green grasses were laid out before them, their building visible but far off past a sea of students. Chloe kept up with them begrudgingly well.

“Well, I didn’t assume I actually needed to ask you,” She replied with a funny sounding giggle. “I mean, who’d pass up going to a dance with someone as hot as me?” She questioned, her expression serious as ever as she ran a hand through her hair and glanced over at Bentley with big doe eyes. “So?”

Bentley sent a glance to Varian, who was watching the cracks in the sidewalk pass and offering zero help.

“Someone actually already asked me,” He replied shortly, with a shrug. (And honestly, thanks to Summer.) “So, no.”

He didn’t miss the way Chloe’s expression shifted, and she scoffed, falling a step behind before she caught up with them again. “Are you kidding? Who?”

“I don’t see how that’s any of your business,” He replied, glancing up at her. A tinge of regret stabbed through his chest at the expression that rippled across her face — something almost like hurt, masked haphazardly by feigned offense.

“Jesus, who pissed in your cereal this morning?” She questioned with the shake of her head. “I’d at least like to know the name of the lucky girl who got to you before I did.”

Bentley only glared over at her, but instead of looking upset, a smile started to tug at the edges of her mouth. “Oh… I see what’s going on here. You’re lying because you don’t want to go with me.”

“No, I’m not,” He replied. He saw Varian glance at him from the corner of his eye, a strange expression crossing his features. “Someone else asked me already.”

“And did you say yes?”

Bentley hesitated on that one, much to his demise. (No, he hadn’t said yes to Summer, but if he told Chloe he had, then she’d expect them to show up together, when really, neither of them were going at all. But if he told her he said no, she’d keep shooting and keep shooting until the backboard fell off.)

“See? You’re lying,” Chloe said, her cocky grin curving into a frown accompanied by angry, fiery eyes. “Who would you rather go with, Layla? Am I not ugly enough for you?”

Bentley heard their heartbeats when a sudden wave of anger came about him. He inhaled and glanced over at her, brown on brown eyes meeting, each with a different kind of fire. “I’d rather go with someone who isn’t a jerk.”

For a moment, he and Chloe shared tense eye contact, and she scoffed again. “Bentley-“

“Look, Chloe,” He started, pausing in his stride and turning to face her directly. She paused, too, uncomfortably close to him, resting her hands on her hips. “I had a really bad night, I’m having a mediocre day, and I feel kind of like shit. Yes, someone asked me, but I didn’t plan on going anyways. And even if I was going, it wouldn’t be with a girl like you,” He snapped with a curt huff. “So can you just… go away?”

Chloe opened and closed her mouth a few times to no avail. Then, with a noise that was supposed to be a scoff but sounded more like a squeak, she huffed and walked off without them at a breakneck pace.

Varian made a sound akin to a snicker. “Remind me not to cross you when you haven’t slept.”

Bentley exhaled heavily with a shake of his head, starting back to a steady stride across the campus. “I don’t like her. She makes me uncomfortable.”

“Oddly enough, lots of guys are into that kind of thing. Her kind of, y’know… way of… getting into your space and trying to sell her hotness to you,” Varian replied with a shrug as he started walking again. “Dunno why. Also I think I might throw up.”

The switch in conversation was so quick Bentley’s wheels had to turn for a solid five seconds before he turned to him with a: “What?”

“My BS. It’s going down more. Dive-bomb, remember?” Varian replied, making an ick face and slowing to a stop. (He looked very suddenly unwell, which was kind of freaking Bentley out, because he hadn’t looked that way two minutes ago.) “Starting to feel like falling over dead. M’ kinda dizzy.”

“I… don’t think I have any food on me,” Bentley replied with an exhale, slowing to a stop again. “I can call Asten and have him bring something. Do you want to sit down?”

He half expected Varian to disagree and tough out the walk, but instead, he just said: “That’d probably be good.”

Bentley pulled his phone out of his pocket and navigated to Asten’s name, watching Varian excruciatingly closely as he gingerly sat himself down on the sidewalk. His phone only rang once before he picked up with a: “Hey.”

“Hey,” Bentley replied, kneeling down ahead of Varian. “Are you close to the room? Varian’s blood sugar is tanking and he needs something. Me and him are on the sidewalk close to the history building.”

A few seconds of quiet passed. “Yeah, I’m pretty close. What’s the number?”

Bentley glanced over at Varian, who, upon hearing Asten, worked the little machine out of his sleeve again. Bentley glanced at the little screen. “Forty-seven.”

He heard Asten inhale. “Jesus, okay, you weren’t kidding when you said it was tanking. How is he even conscious right now? Nevermind, I’m coming. Just hang tight for a few.”

“Okay,” Bentley replied, and a few silent seconds later, the call ended.

He glanced back over at Varian, who was sitting on the ground, looking sort of dazed. He had his legs criss-crossed and his elbows resting on them, with his head dipped down into his hands.

Bentley sat down on the sidewalk, too. “You okay?”

“Hanging in there,” He replied with a faint shrug. “Did… someone actually ask you to the dance?”

Bentley shrugged, too. “Kinda. Not really. Summer heard that Chloe was going to ask me and asked me first, just so I could tell her I was already asked. But we didn’t actually want to go with each other.”

Varian nodded in understanding, though didn’t lift his head. “Who do you want to go with, then?”

“No one. I don’t think I’m going at all,” Bentley replied with a shrug. “Are you?”

“I don’t know yet. I’m… having a hard time focusing on what you’re saying,” Varian replied with a shake of his head. Then he muttered to himself: “Bozhe, mne seychas tak plokho.” (God, I feel so bad right now.)

Bentley wasn’t sure what he said, but he did know that Asten only spoke Portuguese when he was really mad or really scared or in so much pain it just sort of happened. So he assumed Varian speaking Russian wasn’t a good thing. 

“Asten will be here in just a minute,” Bentley tried, glancing up at the sidewalks as if Asten would suddenly appear there. “Are you doing okay?”

“Nauseous. And I only understood, like, half of what you said,” 

Bentley said nothing, but brought a hand up to rest on his shoulder. (Varian had mentioned he wasn’t very good at keeping his blood sugar at a safe level, but Bentley didn’t realize that meant he’d have a dangerous low, like, every day.)

(…At least he hadn’t fainted like he had on Koa the day before. Bentley wasn’t sure he could handle much more fainting.)

“Wow, what’s the matter, soccer players gotta take a breather on the way back to their room?”

Bentley huffed out an extravagantly loud breath, flicking his gaze up to the boy that was approaching on the sidewalk that was very not Asten.

Tyler seemed to already be on his way to the fields, because he was wearing cleats and workout clothes instead of his uniform. He was looking at Bentley and Varian like he was some sort of deity and their entire existence was a mistake.

Bentley did a good job at ignoring him as he walked by, keeping his attention on Varian, who kept looking more and more out of it. It kinda seemed like he was about to faint, which would not be good in the slightest. But to Bentley’s surprise, he didn’t.

He just threw up all over the sidewalk instead.

Bentley hid his grimace and squeezed his shoulder in silent support.

“Ugh, Jesus,” Tyler called from ahead of them. “Your dorm catch the plague already?”

Bentley glanced up at him, taking a breath. Tyler’s stupid hair was sticking up all stupid on his head, looking like he took twenty minutes to make it just messy enough to practice in, and everything from his jersey to his cleats were squeaky clean. His eyebrows were resting on his forehead as he waited for an answer; an expression that made it very appealing to, like, punch him in the face or something. (Seriously, Varian was, like, sick, and that’s what he said? Whatever happened to natural human decency?)

Bentley huffed. “No, he’s just allergic to assholes — so you should probably keep walking.” 

Tyler, with a deadpan face, flipped Bentley off. “You’re a little shithead, you know that?”

“I’ve been told,” Bentley replied with a faint smile. “Bye.”

Tyler turned with a dramatic huff and walked away, flipping him off one more time for good measure.

“We should disturb your sleep more often. You’re being… quite the savage,” Varian muttered with a snicker, wiping his mouth on his blazer sleeve. “I also have a sneaking suspicion I won’t be practicing today. Dr. Koa is going to murder me.”

Bentley, with a sigh, patted Varian’s shoulder. “Don’t worry, I’ll pick up your slack.”

“That’s a lot of slack to pick up,” Varian said with a faint smile, glancing back up at him with dull eyes. “I’m pretty good at standing on the field and pretending I know how to play.”

Bentley snickered lightly, and patted his shoulder again.

(Varian did not practice that day.)

Hazbin Hotel Thoughts: Episodes 5 & 6

I am watching the new episodes as I am typing this, so I will share some thoughts of mine that came during my viewing!

Spoilers!

Episode 05 -- Dad Beat Dad

Okay, first off, Niffty needs a handler. Thank you, Angel! Next, Lucifer and Lilith split? As in...divorced? ...Huh... Did it happen 7 seven years ago too?

So, Lucifer (voiced by Jeremy Jordan, who voiced Varian from the Tangled series) turns out to be just an awkward short king with a dash of depression. Literarily. And he makes/collects rubber duckies as a coping mechanism...I mean, there are worse coping mechanisms.

Clearly, Lucifer loves both Lilith and Charlie with all his heart.

Wait, he had no idea about Charlie's idea for the hotel?!

Lucifer is reminding me so much of Spirit Albarn from Soul Eater, just without the whole womanizer thing. He did not want to pass up a chance to spend time with his daughter.

Um...Al? Buddy? You okay? Why are you sneering at the king of Hell?

AAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHH! Razzle and Dazzle!!!!

Damn, Lu-Lu! You don't know Alastor? Either Lucifer really doesn't give a shit about the Overlords or he has been reallly out of it.

Seriously, what the hell is going on between Lucifer and Alastor? Like...Alastor is so damn hostile that he straight told the king of Hell to fuck himself. That type of language is what Al typically reserved for individuals he scathingly despises and, up til now, it was solely Vox.

Does it have anything to do with Lilith?

Is Lucifer feeling threatened that Alastor has taken over the father figure role in Charlie's life?

There have been so much unexpected twists and I love it!

And it's not even the halfway point yet!

Wait...is this why the episode is called Dad Beat Dad. It's freakin' Alastor and Lucifer duking it out.

Episode 06 -- Welcome to Heaven

Hotel walls can't seem to take a break, lol.

And, hey hey! It's Cherri! And yes! She has an Australian accent! At least, I think its Australian. You'd think watching three seasons of Bluey (on loop, courtesy of my niece) would have me pick up the accent.

Heaven does seem alright. It kinda what I figured it be.

Wait...so, only the exorcists have knowledge of Hell's yearly extermination? ...Is it to prevent an uprising in Heaven too. I mean, there could be some residents who don't agree with this.

Awwww...Cherri and Angel are still buddies! I was honestly gonna worry that the whole Angel staying at the hotel was gonna sour it. So glad it didn't.

Soooo...Vaggie's secrets out and Sera stubbornly says that there are no redeemable souls in Hell.

So, it was recently revealed that Moana 2 was originally supposed to be a series but for some reasons they decided that they prefer to make a movie. They did give a reason but I forgot it probably because it wasn't anything specific. Many suspect that it was because of how the last movies Disney has made were doing bad and I think that may be the case. (as much as I lowkey enjoyed some of the "bad" movies they released recently lol)

All I can think about when hearing about this is:

Tangled the Series.

Tangled got a show instead of a sequel which was a really good choice. Tangled the series is great and it does a really good job at exploring things such as new character and the old characters.

Tangled the series wasn't the most popular thing Disney has released but they were releasing other really successful movies in the meantime. They didn't need to make it a big thing.

Vaiana 2 may be a way for Disney to get up after many failures. Even if the movie ends up being bad, people will watch it because it's a sequel. People will watch it because they love the old characters, they have an excuse to give it a shot even if it would look bad in the trailers. Unlike with an original story like Wish, where everything is new from the animation to the characters.

I was trying to ask myself if Tangled the Series would work well as a movie and my answer is no. Even if you put it in two movies, I don't think they would be able to capture this story well enough in movies. Especially that something TTS is really good at is building characters with time. For example, they show us few times in season 1 Cassandra failing to make her dreams come true so when she's upset about it in season 2/3 we know what she's talking about without them having to bring up examples every five seconds.

Something the creators of Vaiana said is that because they have less time to develop the new characters they decided to make some of their main traits more visible. For example, make a grumpy character more grumpy so we know they're the grumpy one with less screentime. They said it like it was good thing while it really isn't. I was thinking about Cassandra or Varian from TTS who are really well done characters with deep character arcs. I can't imagine them any other way.

Which makes me wonder, would there be any characters in Vaiana who could be as well done as Cassandra and Varian but won't be because of the lack of screentime? I guess we'll never know.

I think that the fact that Vaiana 2 was supposed to be a series explains why there's so many new things and I guess it explains the trailer? I can't really explain it but the trailer did seem a little like a mix of different adventures, you know... episodes.

I really loved Tangled the Series, getting something like but with Vaiana would make me really happy. But it is what it is.

I just want to say that I am saying that Vaiana 2 will be a bad movie. I really don't like judging movies before they come out, I am here just commenting on the decisions that the creators said they made.

I am not crossing out Vaiana 2 yet, maybe they knew what they were doing. I'm just a seventeen year old with a phone, what do I know?

My reason why SPOP and TTS are so similar

-the toxic and abusive ship took over the series and left the other characters with no develop

-etherians and coronans: " let's forgive Catra/Cassandra after they tried to kill and hurt innocent people and did a lot of damage in our kingdom "

*Bow Glimmer/ Eugene and Rapunzel literally including the person that it's a war criminal, that made a huge damage on their kingdom in their friendship group *

-also etherians and coronans: " let's mistreat Entrapta/Varian for their actions and how they are, omg i hate them "

*bow and glimmer/Rapunzel and Eugene literally treating bad both Entrapta/Varian after how much they helpfull they are, not including them in their friendship group, also send Varian to prison when he had a vlid reason to be mad at Rapunzel *

well friend. This is my analisis of why people compare spop with TTS and it's sad because if you think about it Entrapta and Varian didn't do anything to get such a bad treatment and tried so hard to change and be a betterperson for the rest while C*tr*and Cassandra didn't do anything, they did a lot of damage and literally weren't sent to prison while a 14 years old kid yes and that they both are adults and know what they were doing. Something that bother me is the fact that it's true c*ssunzel has took over the show, let's thanks is not incest but what about Rapunzel x Eugene ? aren't this two have to be more moments than Rapunzel and Cassandra or what ? honestly i'm so disapoint that both shows treat an awful woman like if she were an angel who did all a huge damage just because they were hurt and has no reason to do what they do while they treat the inteligent character as the wrong and bad one that try so hard to change, i honestly feel so bad for Entrapta and Varian they deserve so much better than the treatment they got

I haven't watched Tangled the series, but I know a lot of people ship Cassandra and Rapunzel despite them having the same mom and the same golden child x scapegoat dynamic, kinda like Catradora, but Cassandra and Rapunzel don't get together do they? But I agree with everything you said about spop.

Unironically here for the tangled au I want to eat it

and so you shall feast. you have no idea how long i've been keeping this in i've wanted to talk about it so bad (it was originally gonna be a surprise fic while u all waited for finale. i thought it was gonna be 5k. it was not 5k.)

i call it the riopunzel au because rio's the rapunzel in this au. and yes he has the 70 feet of hair

why is rio rapunzel, you ask? because noir is the perfect fit for gothel. also riopunzel is a really funny pun. the pun is literally the reason this au exists in the first place. i was falling asleep one night and my brain went "hey you know what an au where rio was rapunzel would be called? riopunzel" and i went "oh my god. i have to write this down" and the rest is history

this makes ciel flynn, of course! kirarin is her real name. she's the princess of the kingdom of ichigoyama, but is currently on the run because she may or may not have stolen a certain crown

the reason she stole the crown is because she's looking for her twin brother who was kidnapped shortly after they were born. she's got this grand fantasy in her head of finally finding him and presenting him with the crown (it's her brother's. she has a matching one) and then they can all live happily ever after. mom said no we are absolutely not doing that that's too dangerous so she went Fine I'll Do It Myself and ran off. absolutely nothing is going to go wrong with this plan at all

to be fair the crown is technically her property anyways

their mom is lumiere. she's the queen, ofc. and no noir is NOT the father we are noirlumi haters in this household. i have no idea who the dad is there aren't really any canon characters i could use and i also don't want to invent an oc. so there's no dad in the picture

lumiere is understandably very protective of kirarin after losing her son, which is part of why kirarin runs off

yukari is the horse except not a horse. she's co-captain of the royal guard. lumiere sent her to track down kirarin and drag her back

akira is yukari's wife and the other co-captain. she's more of a background character but she does show up very briefly

aoi is the daughter of the noble house tategami. she plays in a street band, not that her parents know. she and ciel kinda know each other from events but never really spoke much. she only gets a cameo (sorry aoi)

himari also only gets a cameo (sorry himari) but i picture her as some sort of sweets scientist (maybe like varian from the series but with sweets instead of alchemy? and no villain arc. i haven't actually watched the show so that's all i know about him sorry if i just failed varian 101)

ichika is just a townsperson (sorry ichika)

the ciel de reve is the snuggly duckling. ciel took her alias (ciel kirahoshi, of course) from its name. it's one of her favorite places to hide out when yukari is especially hot on her trail

bibury is a server/bartender at the ciel de reve. she's a lot more well adjusted in this au! riopunzel!bibury was found and taken in by chourou around the age of 6 and got to grow up happy and healthy :)

cielbib have a situationship

chourou's granddaughter, pekorin, also helps out at the ciel de reve from time to time

chourou owns the place but since he's getting old it's pretty much bibury's tavern by now

everyone's aged up a little, the middle school gang is now 17-18 and akiyuka are 21-22. pekorin is like. 11. also everyone is human

eliso and grave are the stabbington brothers, but ciel never teamed up with them so revenge isn't a motivation. they're just in it for the money, especially grave

noir is World's Shittiest Father but what else is new

ciel's natural hair color is blonde, but she dyes it pretty regularly to disguise herself. rio's is his original civilian persona's black-blue color, but the flower makes it the pale blue color it was as julio. as in tangled canon when it's cut it reverts to that black-blue

he's referred to as julio for most of the au, because that's what noir called him. his birth name is pikario ofc

for the most part the story follows the events of the movie. it's more of an exercise in "hey wouldn't it be really funny if i put the characters in this situation"

i watched season one of the tangled series because i've never seen it and here are my thoughts:

varian was completely right. i can't even say i don't condone his methods because i 100% condone his methods. not only that, but rapunzel's dad is literally evil. they try to portray him as sympathetic and how everything he does is "out of love" but literally everyone knows that more often than not it's the actions, not the intentions that matter. his paranoia doesn't excuse doing literally nothing in response to and actively trying to keep secret the rock spike things that are literally destroying everything. not only that, but he and the queen leave rapunzel in charge for a several days while they went off on an anniversary trip. she hadn't even been in her role for a full year and ended up making a lot of things worse. but let's be honest if her dad was there he'd just say the endless deadly blizzard was a trick of the light or something.

throughout the final few episodes i was rooting for varian, not even rapunzel. she says she's gonna help him, then doesn't. fine, there's a disaster going on. but then when the disaster ends she doesn't follow up. then she needs to be convinced that helping him would help the kingdom at large because she doesn't want to help him for whatever reason. i'm not even gonna say him snapping and trying to kill everyone was wrong. one, they're monarchs, and two, they had a big family group hug right in front of him after all his plans to save his own dad failed.

the king is horrible and neither the queen nor rapunzel do anything to challenge him in a way that actually matters. he literally locks rapunzel in a tower again and she has a sweet father daughter moment the second she breaks out all because her mother was kidnapped (because of their failings might i add. the king caused the whole situation and rapunzel refused to help varian which leads to him kidnapping her mother.) honestly the leadership is so terrible the show would teeter on the edge of being anti-monarchy if it wasn't so decidedly pro-monarchy.

none of the core problems are addressed, they just return to status quo and call it a win. the king doesn't answer for what he did, the system isn't questioned, varian is arrested, just what the fuck.

i know this is a kids show and i should be watching something else if i'm trying to look at something beyond surface level blind entertainment but most of the stuff on my watch list is just stuff i never got around to watching when i was younger.

what I find extremely funny about watching tangled the series is that for some reason (Varian) I now crave ham sandwiches more.

I feel like I should say something about this. I know I do a lot of stuff in the Tangled fandom. But the truth is I actually haven't watched most of the episodes. And that's because of two reasons.

One being I have no access to anywhere I can watch the full series. (No Hector episode included. So sad.😭)

And the other part is that I'm not that into princess-y stuff. And don't get me wrong! I think Rapunzel and Eugene are adorable. But I not into them enough to watch a whole show about them. Also, going by what I've seen and read, I personally prefer their movie version as opposed to their TV show version. That why I usually watched the episodes centered around other characters. Like Varian.😅 I think that might be why I was so drawn to just the brotherhood and Vat7k.

But, yeah. That all. I've had people ask my questions about the show and I'm probably not the best one to ask.

I have a couple of questions about the long episode ranking you did a couple of days ago. This is assuming Cassandra's revenge was your favorite, and Plus et en vous was your least favorite. If I got the order of ranking wrong, I'm sorry. First, why was Cassandra's revenge on top? It was a good episode, sure, but I didn't think you liked season 3 much, especially Cass' villain arc. I'm surprised destinies collide wasn't first, since most can agree that was the peak of the series. Second, why was Queen for a Day second last only to Plus est en vous? I definitely get why Plus est en vous is on the bottom for you, given your gripes with S3, but why Qfad? Did it just not hold up after all this time, or were you never really big on it, given it was the episode that kinda sparked the infamous fandom debate. Or do you not like it for some other reason.

"Cassandra's Revenge" not only holds peak New Dream to me, it's also the kind of villain I had wanted Cassandra to be the entire season. I am all in for someone who turns villain and commits to the bit, but one of my gripes with Cassandra in S3 is that she waffles so much. Had she spent almost the whole season like she did in "Cassandra's Revenge," I'd have found that much more enjoyable.

"Queen For a Day" is second to last partly because it's one of the least new episodes, so I'm incredibly used to it, and a little overexposed to it. It's the crux of Varian stans' anti-Rapunzel campaign (if they have one), and I've had to defend her actions in this episode and those that follow time and time again. It ranks so low because I'm just kind of tired of it at this moment.

All of these rankings are based on how I feel about the episode right now when I watch it. That includes any frustrations that come with watching it.

Fight: From "Hugo Finds Out Varian Is Scary" (Tangled: the Series + Varian and the Seven Kingdoms)

Varian swung his staff with the grace of a drunk man, but he achieved his goal of konking the bandit in front of him across the head and sending him sprawling to the ground. Hugo didn’t watch Varian chuck one of his sticky grenades at him to keep him well and truly out of the fight, though he did hear the sound of it activating behind him. Instead, he turned his attention to the two bandits in front of him - one tall one with a thick beard, and one shorter one with a gold tooth.

“C’mon now, boys, this can’t be worth the effort,” he said, grinning easily at them. 

He ducked a swipe from a sword. That answered that, he supposed.

Life: From "Shores of Restless Souls" (Ninjago)

“If you wanted me to return to a life of crime,” Morro commented idly, “you could’ve just asked.”

Jay whipped his head around, sputtering. “Wha- I- no!” he hissed.

Morro blinked, projecting an innocence Jay didn’t believe for a second. “No? I mean, what am I to think when you’ve dragged me to possibly the most crime-y place possible?” He blinked at him with wide eyes. “Are you using me to pay off a debt to the mob?” 

“No!” he almost shrieked. A few thugs glanced over at him, so he lowered his voice more when he said, “I don’t make a habit of getting into debts, and even if I did, I wouldn’t sell you!” 

Morro snorted. “Relax, Motormouth, I’m messing with you. Your face is turning three very distinct shades of red, so please take a deep breath before you pass out and I have to carry you back home.”

Nobody has asked this before, which is almost surprising!

The answer is... kinda?

I had a unique Tangled the Series experience because I watched the first season on television as it came out in Spain, then binged the last two seasons in disney plus. All without EVER interacting with fandom.

Meaning I did not have fandom influence my opinions during my first watch through.

So when I finally came to fandom, I was caught by surprise at how big Varian was.

I really enjoyed him as a S1 villain, I love the grey villains. I enjoyed him in S3. But one of my fave bits was him just listening to Xavier's stories. I love side characters interacting with each other rather than just the main cast!

So yeah, I liked him, but he was about as important to me as say Xavier, Adira or Stalyan to me. Interesting side characters for sure but never really my end all be all.

When it came to side characters, my faves were Arianna, Frederic, Caine, the disciples, Demanitus and Zhan Tiri herself. They were who captured my curiosity or heartstrings the most!

I think this all shows in how I handle Varian in my main fic. He does interact a fair bit with the main cast in S1 but in S2 it's mostly him interacting with Xavier or with Arianna. He has a role planned out for him in S3, but he never ceases to be a side-character who comes and goes depending on the plot.

But I'm guessing what brought the question up is that I NEVER talk about him here on tumblr?

And the reason for that isn't that I don't like him... But I don't like him enough to face the 'fandom drama' I've seen going on in my mutuals' inboxs since the start.

From the tall-short controversy.

People just being asked over and over again to draw or write him more.

People being upset over different interpretations.

The idea that a fan of tts should know the 7k lore (I do not).

I just see that, and I'm like... Nope. I ain't poking that with a stick,

And that isn't to say other parts of fandom aren't drama ridden or controversial, they very much are.

I've received literal 'wishes for my death' over New Dream and Cassandra stuff. I had to step away from tumblr it was very much a horrible experience.

But I adore Cassandra; I adore New Dream; I adore Arianna and Frederic. I don't like them; I adore them, so I risk seeing and being almost looped into drama to do with them for that reason. I try to avoid it but you can't stop asks in the inbox or people PMing you or even mentions.

I can't say I like Varian enough to dare enter that space.

Varian still has his role in my fics and stuff cause Ao3 is a lot more chill from my experience.

If I'm ever drawing a scene that includes him, I wouldn't purposefully exclude him.

But I'll probably never have any Varian focused projects or pieces here on tumblr because... I do not have the mental space for that drama.

I know this definitely isn't the answer some people wanted to hear... But I think it explains my pov pretty well!

And I still enjoy seeing content for literally everything Tangled the Series related! I'm glad so many side-characters got their time in the spotlight in fandom spaces.
