Tales of the Abyss - Interlude rambling

So by now (after Luke's haircut) I really do realize the signifigance of Luke, Asch, and the sacred flame but...

The "original" Luke - the one Yulia predicted - would / should have been the sacred flame of Legend. His very name means this in Ancient Ispanian

Now in the replica situation:

On one hand, we have Luke, bright red hair and slightly brighter hairtips and white clothes, all bright colors, light, fire.

And Asch - dark red hair, even darker hairtips, dark clothes. The ashes left behind by the sacred flame. The leftovers. I think Sync even points this out and calls him as such

Based on the symbolism and the dialogues hints, you would think that LUKE is the sacred flame, the powerful one, the one of the legends, while Asch is the rejected one, the leftovers, robbed of the flame's power. The ashes.

The thing is - Van's focus.

Van who is so focused on his plan he is even ready to sacrifice his sister if necessary, his God-Genwrals, everything - Van keeps insisting he hops Asch will join him, how he wishes ASCH was in Akzeriuth instead of Luke. He even saved him when Akzeriuth fell. He seems to focus entirely on Asch and want to keep him around.

And instead he calls Luke then"reject", "failure", "foolish replica". He seems to think so highly of Asch, but so little of Luke.

I wonder if he thinks Asch is the strong one - which would go against the symbolism - and thus wants to keep him, or if Van is actually sentimental enough that he cares about his (original) student.

He doesn't seem like the sentimental type tbh
