@magic-is-something-we-create @did-i-do-this-write @akindofmagictoo @gr3y-heron AMAZING THANK YOU YOU'RE ALL MY FAVORITE PEOPLE EVER :DDDD
So, I went to a railroad museum this weekend (it was fantastic and I learned so much) and it gave me ideas. there is a cut here because this got LONG
So the world herald is in has three main cities that are relevant to the story: Valimore (the main setting), Lutetia (where Blake is from), and the unnamed one that I keep calling fantasy madrid in my head. They have roughly the same train & airship stuff.
They're both modes of transportation for cargo and people, and both are relatively quick. Trains are cheaper, but if you were trying to get over the ocean, you would take an airship, because there aren't any train tracks over the ocean. To get through the mountains, though, you can take either: airships take about a day to get over the biggest mountain range, and trains take two-three to get through the same one.
So, they do basically the same thing, why hasn't one died out, like cars vs horse drawn carriages, you ask? (well, maybe you don't, but let's pretend someone is asking).
BECAUSE sky ships are a very new thing, relatively speaking. they've been around for about 30-40 years. Blake, who's in her late 50s and has been a skyship captain for 20+ years and on the crew of one almost her entire adult life, signed on to one of the first major commercial skyships when she was in her very early 20s. They became very popular very fast, and there's airship docks in nearly every city now. (I'm not completely sure what they look like yet but airship docks look kinda ridiculous, I think. really tall-- OH MY GOD THE CLOCKTOWER SHOULD BE AN AIRSHIP DOCK THATS SUCH A FUN IDEA I LOVE THAT--).
So, the original airship captains were train conductors (like how in real life the first train conductors were steamship captains), and Blake's parents were both train conductors or otherwise employed on trains. this is how she got into it. Neither of her parents worked on skyships but some of their friends did.
Because of this, the command structure and bureaucracy surrounding airships is a lot like that surrounding trains!!!!
AND ALSO BECAUSE they're both for transportation, but different types of transportation!!! trains are used for shorter or medium length voyages, or if you don't need to get somewhere super fast, or if you can't/aren't willing to spend a lot of money on a ticket. skyships are used by people in emergencies, or for longer trips with several stops on the way, or if you're really rich. they aren't used by most of the population, cause they're not practical if you aren't super rich. for this reason, most airships (blake's included) are for cargo transport, mostly perishable goods that need to be moved quickly, or for a few passengers at a time.
there is more to this, but I'm not really sure of what it is concretely and also i need to go and sleep.
also. the car trip I typed most of this on we picked up a cat halfway through, and this is her and I love her and she's now my sister's cat and her name is either orla or french toast and have i mentioned i love her
hey does anyone wanna hear about how trains and airships coexist & interact in the herald at dawn world

In this one Annals of Aman version: --Uinen and Ossë are Valar --Estë is not; she is the leader of Maiar --Niënna is sister to Manwë and Melkor --the Maiar are Valarindi, but also Maiar were originally Valimor, then Mairi -- which lead to the word Maiar I have been struggling with how I should design the original term for Maiar in my own Valarin version. One type was Mayanūz, but I hated that and it seemed highly incorrect. I was thinking of altered versions of Maiar directly. There's no context to what Valimor nor Mairi came from--Maiar is Quenya, but the other two were proto-terms. Yet, I may use one of those for my fic.

VALIMOR Calburnus Automatic Watch Collection Now Available
VALIMOR Calburnus Automatic Watch
It can be difficult to stand out in the watch market and aiming for excellence can often result in failure. However, there are a few new watchmakers carving a reputation for stunning craftsmanship and leading that group is VALIMOR. The Hong Kong boutique manufacturer is now rolling out its latest watch collection.
VALIMOR has delivered a watch that offers stunning attention to detail. Mixing contemporary clock design methods with classic style and substance, the Caliburnus is both a technological wonder and an affectionate nod to watches of yesteryear.
The company’s team of designers and engineers have experience in watchmaking and brought their expert skills to the Caliburnus through a year-long development process. Aficionados will instantly appreciate the elevated level of craftsmanship that has gone into each variation of the collection, delivering a unique clock that is a fashion statement and elegant dress accompaniment.
VALIMOR set out with the goal to create something that would become a timeless classic and stand out as something different in the market. We think the company has succeeded.
Design and Development
Boasting a team of watchmakers with over 15 years’ experience in the field, VALIMOR turned its vast knowledge towards creating a unique timepiece collection. The result is a hand-tooled automatic watch that delivers technical excellence and aesthetic triumphs. Technicians handle the natural stone dial, Hornback-shaped strap, case, and crown to ensure the highest quality control.
Speaking of the stone dial, this is a very fragile part of the Caliburnus and needed delicate cutting, sanding, and drilling by expert craftsmen. VALIMOR is so pleased with the exclusive case and crown that it is seeking global patents to protect the design. Simply put, you will not see the case and crown of the Caliburnus on any other watch.
Three variants are available in the Caliburnus collection, the dark elegance of the Black Galaxy, the opulent expression of the Lapis Lazuli, and the warm glow of the Rainbow Jasper. Each timepiece in the range comes with the following core technical specifications:
Reference: VA001
Certification: EUIPO Design Patent #004742294-0001
Case: Ø42 mm – Aged 316L Stainless Steel
Coating: PVD
Dial: Natural Black Galaxy Granite / Natural Lapis Lazuli / Natural Rainbow Jasper
Glass: Sapphire Coated Hardened Mineral Crystal / Sapphire Crystal by add-on option
Hands Luminous: Swiss Super-LumiNova BGW9
Crown Crystal: Swarovski
Water Resistant: 5 ATM (50 m)
Strap: Genuine Leather
Caliber: Japan-Made Miyota 821A Automatic
Functions: Hours, Minutes, Seconds and (Date or Non-Date)
Jewels: 21
Thickness: 12.65mm
Frequency: 21,600vph
Power-reserve: 42hours
Movement
Each watch in the Caliburnus collection comes with Miyota 821A movement. VALIMOR says the decision to opt for 8-series movement instead of the more expensive Miyota 9-series caliber was a conscious one. Simply, the team decided they wanted the watch to be different from any other on the market, so opted for a different movement.
Indeed, VALIMOR tells us it sees the current watch market as space where plagiarism is rife, and lines are blurred in terms of styles. Wanting to be original, the designers spent years in research and spent a lot of money to test components and find a timepiece that is completely unique.
Considering the Caliburnus collection is manually machined by expert craftsmen, keeping cost in the affordable range was important. Combining quality with strong components, VALIMOR wants their watch fans and general customers to embrace its creation and find it accessible. However, the company points out it will pursue more expensive movement in future watch collections.
VALIMOR’s new Caliburnus collection is now available and will appeal to timepiece aficionados with an affordable USD$494 price.
For more information on VALIMOR, visit the company’s official website now. The company is also active on social media and can be found on Facebook and Instagram.

What are the greatest things in life? Well, Conan the Barbarian had a set of answers to that question. For me, I’ll say it varies here and there, but sometimes that itch can be scratched by something a simple as a new watch coming onto the market that has a lot of interesting elements built into it. One such of those watches, the Valimor Caliburnus, is now up on Kickstarter.
Right from the get-go, you can tell that the Valimor Caliburnus is different from what you may have seen before – this is no “me too” minimalistic piece that is destined for the landfill. What struck me first was the bezel on the watch. A closer look reveals that it has a scaly texture to it, engraved in. Per the PR materials, this is to call to mind dragon scale, but it could also remind one of, say, the overlapping leaves of scale mail. Add in the fact that the hands are actual swords (the overall theme of the watch is pulling from Arthurian legend), and you have, for me, a watch that is basically D&D in horology (and no, no steampunk here).
For me, that’s a good thing. I grew up playing D&D with a close set of friends, and have fond memories of those days. So, right off the bat, the Valimor Caliburnus is in my good graces. Then we get to the dial. Oh, those dials. There are three options here of various semi-precious stones, but my favorite has to be the lapis lazuli. Ever since I discovered that lapis lazuli existed many years ago, I have been enamored. There’s just a depth and variety to the blue that is intriguing to me. And while I’ve not yet picked up a watch with a lapis lazuli dial, I did managed to get some cufflinks on a trip back from Argentina a while ago, so I know what I would be pairing with this watch.
Safe to say, design-wise, there is a lot going on with the Valimor Caliburnus that I am a fan of. Hands and indices are filled with SuperLuminova (always appreciated), and they’ve managed to turn a cow leather strap into something that looks like a hornback crocodile strap (much nicer than your normal croc-embossed stuff), which keeps the reptilian feel to things. The buckle on the strap also has some interesting engraving going on to keep the theme going.
Tucked into the Valimor Caliburnus is a well-known commodity, the Miyota 821A automatic movement. As always, I like seeing known movement brands showing up in new watch startups, as that gives one a bit more confidence that things can be maintained, and parts will be available for said maintenance. The presence of the Miyota also helps to keep pricing down. Speaking of, early bird pricing for the Valimor Caliburnus starts at just $239, which represents about a 50% discount off the future retail price.
As I mentioned at the outset, the campaign for the Valimor Caliburnus is currently underway, with funding sitting at about 65% as of the time of this writing. The campaign runs through July 31st, and delivery (provided the funding goals are hit) is anticipated for October. I have seen some other watches be offered in limited runs with stone dials of these nature at this price, but none have had quite this level of detail and adherence to a theme. Should funding levels be met, and production commence, we’re in talks with the brand to get one in for a hands-on review. Give us a shout out in the comments (or over in Slack) if you jump in to help pull the sword from the stone. valimor.com

Miss Maggie Rose Valimor
Some call this humble woman Mag. She is a hard working woman that tends to that of many travelers and children. She is a woman with an attitude that most just cant stand to put up with. If you cant handle that of a mean character she is not the kind of girl you want to be around. She is hard as a nail and stubborn as a mule. Her tongue normally flaps with insults just to keep people at arms length. Though underneath it all she is a woman with so much heart and soul for those around her.
I do not get into much detail about my characters but this is just a brief look inside that of Miss Maggie.

Now Funding: Valimor Caliburnus II
Now Funding: Valimor Caliburnus II
When I’m looking at watch projects that hit Kickstarter, I tend to feel a bit jaded. To put it simply, there is a lot of cut-and-paste catalog garbage out there. I mean, if you need to use a catalog case to control costs for the rest of your unique design? I’m good with that, especially if you’re starting out. However, if you really want to to stand out, create something really interesting,…
