Waiting for the bulldozer, Fairfax City, 2023.

While only a few multiple hectare tracts of undeveloped land remain in Fairfax City, active infilling along with tear-down rebuild is keeping construction crews busy. This lot with trash is in a neighborhood which once was 1950s era small houses on large lots. Those small houses are being replaced with two or three new houses on what was once a single unit lot. The newly constructed houses are double or more the floor area of the units replaced. This is the last remaining lot awaiting such development on its block.

"MORE LOTS NEEDED FOR UNEMPLOYED," Kitchener Record. May 16, 1934. Page 16. ---- Demand Greater Than Supply This Year; More Will Be Allotted Tomorrow ---- After distributing over 500 garden lots to relief recipients, another appeal was issued today by those in charge of distribution for extra land. Additional gardens are needed in the Wilmot street extension area, around the K-W Hospital and Charon street.

Any land owners who have any suitable vacant lots which they are willing to allow the use of for gardens are requested to telephone 1612.

A much bigger response for gardens has been met this year. An Indication of the extent of the work is given when it is reported that over 600 bags of seed potatoes have been allotted.

The final distribution of relief gardens will take place tomorrow afternoon and Friday. Lots at the Lancaster and Arnold streets area are to be allotted tomorrow afternoon at 2 o'clock and at Mill and South streets Friday at 2 p.m.

Those desiring gardens are asked to be on hand at the designated hour.

Page 2. --- Earlscourt Patrol Will Cultivate Lot at St. Chad's Church. ---- Earlscourt Boy Scouts, under Scoutmaster Bertram Lindo; have begun work on the land adjoining St. Chad's Church, North Dufferin street. This vacant space has been cut up into lots, and the boys, under their officers, are being trained to cultivate each lot for the production of garden truck. Rev. Harold Snartt, the rector, takes quite an active interest in the boys' work, for which prizes will be awarded at the close of the season.
