Version differences between uncensored/censored ENNEAD manhwa
This leads to some confusion among many folks, so I figure a breakdown might be useful to more people. In simple terms, there are two versions of ENNEAD, the boys love manhwa: the uncensored version (19+/18+/Mature, depending on the publisher), and a censored version (15+/16+/Older Teen, depending on the publisher). This is true for a lot of BL comics, to a degree, but ENNEAD has more differences than usual.
This is also primarily to combat the narrative of people trying to sell the censored version of the series as some wholly different beast than the uncensored version. Changes between the versions cover <9% of the whole story. The censored version is, to some degree, slightly softer than the uncensored version (mostly in the sense that there's visually less of it on the page). But it is still dark fantasy, covers the same topics, and deals with the same narratives. Showing less of a scene does not equal not having the scene happen at all.
This will be spoilery for things up through Season 2, Episode 108.
ENNEAD is unique in some ways in that Mojito works around the usual censoring so she doesn't have to have as much cropping and panel cutting or use lightsabers or those weird censor lines that other releases put over dicks. She makes use of specific posing, gestures, and clothing to indicate sensuality without showing bits constantly. The idea is, if she has to remake the scene for the censored version, she has to do as little work as possible while avoiding having the work be butchered to meet the censor requirements when it's redone for the censored version, and so the censored version can be as close to the uncensored version as possible. There's still some cropping, but it's not as bad as it might be. Mostly, changes are just having characters be fully clothed or do different things together.
ENNEAD does not use lightsabers or censor bars (with the caveat that, for some reason, the English translation on Tappytoon used lightsabers solely for the uncensored release of S2E108; lightsabers are not present on the original Korean version). Mojito either redraws or replaces the panels, crops, adds clothing, and/or rewrites for the censored release.
ENNEAD is a serial webcomic, and is broken up into episodes (as of writing, 186 episodes in the uncensored version, as that's one episode longer). This is a list of episodes with version differences:
Season 1: Episodes 28-32, 42-44, 74-75 (75 doesn't exist in the censored release)
Season 2: Episodes 19, 45-47, 71, 107, 108
Not all episodes are completely different throughout the episode. Some only have a few tweaks. Season 1, Episode 28, for example, just removes some bloodstains. It doesn't otherwise change any of the panels. And even episodes with complete panel redraws aren't redrawn throughout the whole episode for the most part. That's 16/186 episodes, making up <9% of the whole story that are changed. The percentage is even smaller than that because most episodes with changes only change a few panels. The most extensive changes are in S1E30-32, 42-43, 74-75, and S2E45-47, 71, 107, and 108.
A more detailed breakdown of the changes made for the censored release in the digital and physical English releases:
S1E28/Volume 3, Chapter 7: Bloodstains removed [This was not kept for the English physical release for some reason; the bloodstains are in both releases, which is possibly an error, or just different country requirements]
S1E29-31/Volume 3, Chapter 8: Panel redraws and rewrites to soften the nsfw
S1E32/Volume 3, Chapter 8: Panel redraws and rewrites to soften the nsfw, added Seth POV focusing on his psyche
S1E42/Volume 4, Chapter 11: Panel redraws and rewrites to soften the nsfw
S1E43/Volume 4, Chapter 11: Extended Isis POV section with new panels and writing, shrunken Osiseth section. This is possibly the most extensively changed episode, as the uncensored version is mostly Osiseth, while the censored version is mostly Isis' POV.
S1E44/Volume 4, Chapter 11: Redrawn panels, mostly to remove more of the Osiseth, rewriting
S1E74/Volume 6 (presumed): There is an end AU story for each version of the season. The uncensored version contains an early draft of the manhwa where the new King Horus takes Seth as his prisoner. It is two episodes long. The censored version contains a story where Seth's punishment for losing the trial is to become tiny and held as Horus' captive. It's one episode long.
No version of season 2 has gone to print in any language as of yet. However, current physical volumes average 13 episodes a volume.
S2E19: Panel redraws and rewrites to soften the nsfw
S2E45: Panel redraws and rewrites to soften the nsfw
S2E46: Panel redraws and rewrites, including more information on Seth's attempted rescue of the boy
S2E47: Panel redraws and rewrites to soften the nsfw
S2E71: Panel redraws and rewrites to soften the nsfw
S2E107-8: Panel redraws and rewrites to soften the nsfw
The sex scenes are all still in there, they're just shorter (and generally they're sort of alternate sex scenes). The non-con is also still there. It's just not as heavily emphasized.
For folks looking to buy the physical English release and wondering which version to get as Seven Seas offers both, volumes 1, 2, and 5 should have no differences. Volumes 3, 4, and possibly 6 should have differences. 3 and 4 definitely do, but we don't know what's in volume 6, yet. The listing on storefronts shows the paperback and hardcovers have different page counts, which might be different to include the AUs.
If you'd like to know where to read it, you can read both the uncensored and censored versions in English on Tappytoon on both the browser and app versions of the site. More information on the manhwa here.

Cracking the Cult Code for Therapists: What Every Cult Victim Wants Their Therapist to Know
by Bonnie Zieman
Tumblr media
June 16, 2017    paperback   142 pages    ISBN-13: 978-1546894681
After being born into and raised in a cult that masquerades as a religion, Bonnie Zieman left the cult and obtained the education she'd been denied while in it. Training in two schools of psychotherapy (Gestalt and Psychosynthesis) and obtaining a master's degree in education, Bonnie then became a licensed psychotherapist. She worked in private practice for over twenty years. Once learning about this new phenomenon of the constant stream of people now exiting high-control groups and cults, and understanding the toll the cult abuses take on lives (isolation, rampant depression, PTSD, and suicide) she wanted to apply her education and experience to help. Writing cult-recovery-related books seemed like the obvious course. Bonnie has written: “Exiting the JW Cult: A Healing Handbook”; “The Challenge to Heal After Leaving A High-Control Group” and its accompanying volume “The Challenge to Heal Workbook & Journal”; as well as “Fading Out of the JW Cult: A Memoir” about her thirty years in the cult, the struggle to leave it, and the challenges faced trying to create a new life once out. You can learn more about Bonnie Zieman and her work at her website,   https://bonniezieman.com/

Cult Victims’ First-Hand Accounts of Control & Abuse are from the Following Groups & Extremist Religions
About the Author
Note to former cult members: While some of you may dislike seeing yourself referred to as a ‘victim’, the reality is that while in the cult we were ‘victimized’. The goal for any of us who were members of a cult is to move from ‘victim’ to survivor to ‘thriver’. If you feel you have already moved beyond being classified as a victim, I applaud and support you. That is evidence of your hard work on the path to recovery. I use the word ‘victim’ throughout the book in part to accentuate to therapists not yet familiar with cults, how damaging and destructive membership in a cult can be. You know where you are on the road to recovery. Please do not let a word define or disturb you.
Conclusion to the ‘Cracking the Cult Code’ book
Part of the purpose of the mixed cocktail of control and indoctrination in any cult is to convince members that while being psychologically and spiritually captive, they are actually free – free because they are among the few on the planet who are in possession of the truth, free because only they have been liberated from the delusions, depravity and immorality of the rest of the world, free because only they would be exempt from the fate of the world of non-believers, etc. These are, surely, the ultimate cult deceptions.
Once an individual does leave the cult they may wonder how they could ever have allowed to themselves to buy into such blatant lies, and perhaps then doubt their ability to make rational assessments and decisions. There may also be self recriminations – anger at the self, disgust at allowing oneself to be duped, outrage at having wasted so much time – which can result in despair, demoralization and depression.
The ex-cult member may wonder if they can trust themselves going forward and, therefore, proceed gingerly to make choices or decisions while trying to rebuild their values, worldview, life, and relationships outside of the cult. It may be challenging for friends, family and social workers to help motivate someone fresh out of a cult. The after-effects of so many deceptions make it hard for the ex-cult member to trust anyone – including social services or mental health professionals – for a time.
While believing they were free and exclusively chosen to engage in work that would better the world, cult members forfeited their real self, their values, their autonomy, their agency, their family and any support system outside of the cult. Cult victims forfeited their financial future, a sense of competence, their self esteem, their well-being – their life. Listen to the following recollections and reflections of two ex-cult members:
“When your own thoughts are forbidden, when your questions are not allowed and our doubts punished, when contacts with friendships outside of the organization are censored, we are being abused, for the ends never justify the means. When our heart aches knowing we are we have made friendships and secret attachments that will be forever forbidden if we leave, we are in danger. When we consider staying in a group because we cannot bear the loss, disappointment and sorrow our leaving will cause for ourselves and those we have come to love, we are in a cult… If there is any lesson to be learned it is that an ideal can never be brought about by fear, abuse, and the threat of retribution. When family and friends are used as a weapon in order to force us to stay in an organization, something has gone terribly wrong” – Deborah Layton
“I could not undo overnight the damage that had been done to my psyche over many years. The only way over was through – I knew that – but it was still debilitating and stressful. All I could do was face the fear and keep going.”  – Carolyn Jessop
Cult expert, Madeleine Landau Tobias, in the book, “Captive Hearts, Captive Minds” says: “More often than not, leaving a cult environment requires an adjustment period, not only to reintegrate into ‘normal’ society, but also to put the pieces of yourself back together in a way that makes sense to you. When you first leave a cult situation, you may not recognize yourself. You may not know how to identify the problems you are about to face. You may not have the slightest idea who you want to be. The question we often ask children, ‘What do you want to be when you grow up?’ suddenly takes on a new meaning for adult ex-cult members.”
After reading this book it should be clear that people leave cults or any high-control group have been traumatized by multiple losses, betrayal, thought control, deception, coercion, exploitation and abuse. Once out of the cult, victims have a long road ahead to reclaim their suppressed identity and to build a new, self-directed life. They need help and support and many hope to find it with a prepared, competent, understanding, non-judgmental therapist.
After taking the daunting step of finding a therapist, ex-cult victims need to sit across from a clinician who has “cracked the cult code” and understands what the ex-member endured in the group and what they will face trying to reclaim the self and the life they had to abandon to be in the cult.
I hope that after reading this book, clinicians will now have a better handle on what cult victims want their therapist to know, so that their work together can be more open, collaborative and productive.
The therapist who has cracked the cult code will surely be enriched by the privilege of viewing the determination, courage and resilience that manifests before them as they work with cult victims to release the beautiful human being unduly encased in the cold, unyielding stone of cult constraints.
“The long day wanes: The slow moon climbs; The deep Moans round with many voices. Come, my friends, Tis not too late to seek a newer world.”
– Tennyson, Ulysses

(Overdue) Media round-up (January 2019)
Feb’s almost over and I was gonna write about what I’ve processed when I realized I only posted about the anime I watched, I think? So this is a catch-up post for manga and games, before the end of this month in a few days. If you want to read the January anime round-up, it’s in my “curry watches anime” tag.
Games:
Puresabe’s 2019 New Year Rockman Hack (NES): Puresabe does one of these every year and they are always pretty hard! But I think the last few years have been much more balanced than their older projects. They are always just boss fights, but with complex patterns and sometimes multiple phases. Being just a boss fight (or two) means they are super short, but you will spend most of your time learning them. Also there are no checkpoints, so every death means you’re back to phase one. It’s very fun when it’s a good hack, and this was a good hack. I had a very rough start to the year and considered giving up, but went back and beat it, for good fortune in the new year. (Beaten 1/2/19)
Tumblr media
The 2nd Super Robot Wars (NES): I decided 2019 would be the year I got into SRW, and so I started here, because the first game actually has no hard plot. I enjoyed it to a point, but the difficulty climbs to an absurd degree, and I wish I’d cut my losses and just youtubed it. The game allows you to save at any time during a turn, and resetting the console means it recycles the RNG and you can get different luck. This is...required. Most of the way into the game, I was having to reset twenty times in a row per unit action, just to make sure I could survive an enemy attack, or successfully hit an enemy. The funniest thing is that when I finally beat this, I almost immediately started up one of the later games, so clearly the kernel of value was visible to me through all that bullshit. (Beaten 1/13/19)
Tumblr media
Super Smash Bros. Ultimate: World of Light (Switch): I had been chomping at the bit for what felt like forever just to play this mode of this game, and not only was it good, it surpassed my expectations multiple times. This mode has a lot of twists for something that mostly implies narrative, or otherwise ignores it. I’m the rare person who mostly plays Smash Bros solo because I have NO FRIENDS, and this was worth the price of admission for me. I don’t consider Smash Ultimate itself beaten yet because I haven’t beaten Classic Mode on 9.9 difficulty yet. I have finished with 9.8, like, four times. Please kill me. (Beaten 1/18/19)
PaRappa the Rapper (PSP): While taking care of my cat, I found an opportunity to actually use my PSP for the first time since...2008 or 09? When I bought it secondhand? Jesus. Anyway, it turns out that PaRappa actually has absurd input detection and an equally hard to parse system for what counts as “freestyling”, which ultimately results in a final stage where you’re...required to play notes that are completely unrelated to what it says to do on-screen? I still beat the game (in a single sitting, too. it’s short), but I was pretty frustrated. Greenblat’s aesthetic is iconic, and the songs are very fun to listen to (this game has maybe the only potty humor I actually enjoyed), but the game part is actually the problem. (Beaten 1/25/19)
Patapon (PSP): I played PaRappa spontaneously, but I’ve actually meant to play the Patapon series for quite a while. This is less a song-performing rhythm game and more of an action/strategy type of rhythm game where you consistently keep a beat to keep morale up. It’s pretty good, but missions can be 3-6 minutes of consecutively hitting four notes and then waiting four notes, and while that itself sounds doable, I am just terrible at rhythm and messed up a lot of good opportunities. The difficulty curve in this is high in the beginning, lowers over time, before hitting a huge spike and then being a cakewalk for the last four or so missions. There’s also a lot of grinding, which means this rhythm game came out to almost a 16 hour run. A bit tiring. Not sure when I’ll jump on Patapon 2, but I hope it’s easier to play, since my impetus for picking up the series was the intro FMV for the third game. (Beaten 1/30/19)
Games beaten in January: 5 Games beaten in 2019 thus far: 5
Manga:
Getter Robo Vol 2 (Finished): I didn’t feel like plowing through 51 episodes of the old 70s anime, so I decided to just read the much shorter, and somewhat unrelated manga. In the show, the heroes are what they are, heroes. Likable mains for kids to watch on Saturday mornings. In the manga, as per Go Nagai’s influence (and the main author, Ken Ishikawa, who I LOVE and who was Nagai’s assistant), the heroes are violent asshole moron sociopath terrorists who gradually become more unhinged as they are exposed to the very radiation that powers the machine they use to fight dinosaurs (though said gradual descent is more of a thing in the later manga/OVAs). Also, the villains are dinosaurs. Turns out they had the original ancient civilization and Getter Rays chased them into the Earth’s core and they want to planet back. That’s Getter Robo! It’s very good.
Getter Robo G Vol 1-3 (Finished): This is kind of more of the same as the first, and again, I didn’t want to watch the 39 episodes, I wanted the primer so I could play SRW. As I’ve approached the later games, it turns out they prefer to take influence from the shows, not the manga. Oops! Whatever. In this sequel, it turns out the Dinosaur Empire was a pawn or something to It Was Aliens, the Hyakki Empire, and it’s...more of the same. In both the GR and GR G mangas, I found the occasional chapter with wildly different art, and I figured that those were Ishikawa’s gorgeous art, and the majority was Nagai’s. But, I’m not sure, and I wonder if those were revised or extra chapters done years later. Idk. Anyway, they are both very fun reads, even if they serve more as primers of the lore.
Shin Getter Robo Vol 1-2 (Finished): HERE’s where things start to get really good, and surreal, and bleak. This manga is not adapting a tv series (though later OVAs would reference it. This manga is actually I think where a lot of the inspiration for Gurren Lagann came from, and if you like that series, you should read this to see the connection. I can’t really explain without spoiling either (though if in 2019 you don’t know what happens in Gurren, you are super lucky and need to go watch it all asap). NOTE, this takes place after the 7 volume Getter Robo Go manga, which has a show but I think is unrelated, but more importantly is probably the BEST Getter Robo series. I read that before knowing a thing about Getter and still loved it (though I think having context will really benefit it). GR Go is the biggest justification for getting into the series. If any friends of mine want to look into this series, I’ll actually help give them a guide. Interestingly, the most modern Getter series (of which the most recent was in 2004 (please come back)) all take reference from the darker mangas, not the old 70s show.
Mazinger Z Vol 1-5 (Finished): I think Go Nagai’s works are weird, melodramatic, gross, and just kinda badly drawn. They are great experiences, if you go in with a grain of salt and also avoid the *most* transgressive ones. Don’t google Iron Virgin Jun. Just. Don’t do it. Devilman is probably his best work, but Mazinger Z is another series with a much more famous long-running 70s cartoon (92 episodes!!!) and burned itself into the nostalgia of Japan. Whereas Devilman eventually becomes traumatizing, Mazinger Z is pretty laid back and goofy, while also being Nagai’s brand of The Most Dramatic Thing Ever. If you follow me, you might’ve seen me post pages in my manga tag. It’s a LOT. Though, actually, I don’t think this manga is all that great. It can be *really* funny, but I don’t even remember if the series actually ends. If you read one or two volumes and want to put it down, I think you’re safe to. You got most of the lore. The biggest events seem to take place in later series that I haven’t delved into yet.
UFO Robo Grendizer Vol 1 (Finished): I actually haven’t been able to find anywhere to read Great Mazinger, the sequel series, so I skipped to Grendizer, which is the second sequel. It’s pretty unrelated continuity-wise, so it’s easy to pick up. This is only one volume and yeah they really just want you to watch the 74 episode show, but I’m good. Still, this is a fun book, and Nagai throws in his batshit ideas. The main character is an alien prince whose tragic backstory is literally that the villain kidnapped his younger siblings and all the country’s children and just! Dropped them all from the sky to their death in the middle of the city! And they don’t censor it! GO NAGAI! I really need to read the autobio manga Gekiman because of what snippets I’ve seen, Nagai is actually a super mild-mannered dude who doesn’t really get where his ideas cross lines. If you want to say “oh that’s just wacky Japan”, it’s really not, he was public enemy #1 with parents all over the country for a long time.
Super Robot Retsuden Vol 1 (Finished): This is a single volume crossover of Nagai super robot IPs including Mazinger Z, Getter Robo, Great Mazinger, Grendizer, and Steel Jeeg (a guy who’s more Ultraman-adjacent than super robot), and there’s no real plot beyond “oh no new bad guy! buy the toys, kids!” It’s throwaway, and I mostly read it to see who Jeeg is without getting into his own series. Also, it was drawn by Ishikawa, so I felt a bit obligated. His art is just so pretty.
Lucifer and the Biscuit Hammer Vol 1 (and maybe 2?): Satoshi Mizukami is a godly storyteller who uses the language of shonen to tell deeply mature and introspective stories for adults and if you follow my posts you might remember me gushing about Spirit Circle and Planet With. I actually haven’t touched this series since February started but I need to get back in because the first two volumes out of ten are amazing (warning, though: there’s a pet death and it’s real sudden and was hard for me to handle). Please read Mizukami’s works.
Manga volumes read in January: 14-15 Manga volumes read in 2019 thus far: 14-15
---
Okay that’s everything. I wrote a lot more than I expected to. If you read all that, thanks. If you are interested in any of the things I wrote about, great! If you decide to play through SRW2, don’t, stop, don’t do that. In a few days I’ll be writing about a much better SRW game.

Statistica is an advanced analytics software package originally developed by StatSoft and currently maintained by TIBCO Software Inc.(1)Statistica provides data analysis, data management, statistics, data mining, machine learning, text analytics and data visualization procedures.
Overview(edit)
Statistica is a suite of analytics software products and solutions originally developed by StatSoft and acquired by Dell in March 2014. The software includes an array of data analysis, data management, data visualization, and data mining procedures; as well as a variety of predictive modeling, clustering, classification, and exploratory techniques.(2) Additional techniques are available through integration with the free, open source R programming environment.(3)(4)Different packages of analytical techniques are available in six product lines.(5)
History(edit)
Statistica originally derives from a set of software packages and add-ons that were initially developed during the mid-1980s by StatSoft. Following the 1986 release of Complete Statistical System (CSS) and the 1988 release of Macintosh Statistical System (MacSS), the first DOS version (trademarked in capitals as STATISTICA) was released in 1991. In 1992, the Macintosh version of Statistica was released.
Statistica 5.0 was released in 1995. It ran on both the new 32-bit Windows 95/NT and the older version of Windows (3.1). It featured many new statistics and graphics procedures, a word-processor-style output editor (combining tables and graphs), and a built-in development environment that enabled the user to easily design new procedures (e.g., via the included Statistica Basic language) and integrate them with the Statistica system.
Statistica 5.1 was released in 1996 followed by Statistica CA '97 and Statistica '98 editions.
In 2001, Statistica 6 was based on the COM architecture and it included multithreading and support for distributed computing.
Statistica 9 was released in 2009, supporting 32 bit and 64-bit computing.
Statistica 10 was released in November 2010. This release featured further performance optimizations for the 64-bit CPU architecture, as well as multithreading technologies, integration with Microsoft SharePoint, Microsoft Office 2010 and other applications, the ability to generate Java and C# code, and other GUI and kernel improvements.(2)

20 Best Songs for Writers and About Writing: The Ultimate Writing Mixtape
Recently, I had iTunes on random and a couple songs played back-to-back that had lines about writing. It didn’t take long for me to wonder, “What are the best songs for writers and about writing?” So I started making my own list, and I put out a call on Facebook and Twitter (find my handles below if you love being part of such conversations).
Anyway, this post puts together my ultimate writing mixtape of the best 20 songs for and about writers and the process of writing. Sure, there are many other great songs about the subject, and please share them in the comments below. But this is the mix I’m going to start rocking on my way to and from writer conferences, open mics, and writing retreats.
Just click the links below to listen to the songs on YouTube.

Get published with Writer’s Market Deluxe Edition!
Since 1921, Writer’s Market has been helping freelance writers get published and get paid for their writing, whether by finding magazines, book publishers, literary agents, contests, and more markets. In 2000, the team launched WritersMarket.com, and now freelancers can access more listings that are updated throughout the year.
The great thing about Writer’s Market Deluxe Edition is that writers get the same printed version of Writer’s Market they love along with an activation code for a one-year subscription to WritersMarket.com. And the 2018 edition is now available for pre-order.

20 Best Songs for Writers and About Writing Mixtape
Track 1: “I’m Gonna Sit Right Down and Write Myself a Letter,” by Fats Waller
This is the perfect intro track with a bit of an instrumental opening before getting into the lyrics, which include, “I’m gonna sit right down and write myself a letter and make believe it came from you.” The song was composed by Fred E. Ahlert and Joe Young in 1935 and made popular by Waller. But it’s been covered by a range of artists, including Billy Williams, Frank Sinatra, Bing Crosby, Nat “King” Cole, Willie Nelson, Anne Murray, Linda Scott, and Paul McCartney–just to name a few.
Track 2: “I Could Write a Book,” by Dinah Washington
There are two ways to make a transition on a mixtape: smooth or jarring. Both are effective, but I prefer smooth early on in a mix. Enter this wonderful version of “I Could Write a Book,” which was a tune in the Rodgers & Hart 1940 musical Pal Joey. I first heard Harry Connick’s version from When Harry Met Sally…, but a range of artists have performed this song as well, including Ella Fitzgerald, Rosemary Clooney, and Miles Davis.
Track 3: “Dancing in the Dark,” by Bruce Springsteen
According to the Boss, “you can’t start a fire without a spark.” So here we go. The biggest hit off the bestselling album (Born in the U.S.A.) of Bruce Springsteen’s career, “Dancing in the Dark” includes the line that he’s “sick of sitting around here trying to write this book.” Musically, this song jump starts the mix with synths, quick beats, and that fade out sax.
Track 4: “Write About Love,” by Belle and Sebastian
Anyone who has participated in either my April or November poem-a-day challenges knows how I feel about love poems. So of course, Belle and Sebastian’s song “Write About Love” from the album titled Write About Love had to make the cut. In addition to the writing theme, it keeps the upbeat momentum of the early mixtape.
Track 5: “The Engine Driver,” by the Decemberists
Track five slows things down a little, and it plays with the theme of love while taking it’s time getting to the writing reference in the song. But the chorus slams home with, “I am a writer, writer of fictions … and I’ve written pages upon pages trying to rid you from my bones.” Once you hear this song, it stays. Click here for a pretty cool analysis of the song.
Track 6: “Poetry Man,” by Phoebe Snow
Transition time: From slower and lonely to mellow and hopeful. A kind of summer afternoon song by Phoebe Snow about the poetry man, who “makes things alright.” The song actually hit number one on the Billboard‘s Easy Listening chart in 1975. In 2007, Queen Latifah covered the song for her Trav’lin’ Light album.
Track 7: “I Am a Rock,” by Simon and Garfunkel
As Paul Simon mentions in the opening of this performance, “This according to Arty is my most neurotic song.” This folk song plays off the previous song’s focus on poetry with the line, “I have my books and my poetry to protect me.” I’m sure more than a few poets and readers can relate to that sense of protection from loneliness and isolation. Released as a single in 1966, “I Am a Rock” rose to number three on the Billboard Top 100 list.
Track 8: “Wuthering Heights,” by Kate Bush
Kate Bush hit it big on her debut single, which she wrote at 18 and was based on the novel of the same name. “Wuthering Heights” was released in January 1978 and spent 4 weeks at the number one position of the UK Singles Chart. One interesting part of this song is that Bush lifted lines from Wuthering Heights character Catherine Earnshaw, including “Let me in! I’m so cold!” from the chorus. The song had two music videos; the other one can be viewed by clicking here.
Track 9: “Paperback Writer,” by the Beatles
After some slower (and more somber) songs, we switch up the mood and beat a little with the Beatles. “Paperback Writer” was written by Paul McCartney as a response to a challenge by an aunt, according to disc jockey Jimmy Savile, who asked him to write a single that didn’t have to do with love. Regardless of the inspiration, the song is written as a letter from an author to a publisher, making it relatable to writers everywhere.
Track 10: “Autobiography,” by Sloan
This song starts, “I’m bright and young and gifted in my autobiography; I figured who would know better than me?” I’ve always considered this song a little gem for writers, especially writers who have a life story to tell. This song comes off Sloan’s One Chord to Another album, which recently celebrated its 20th anniversary.
Track 11: “Hey Jack Kerouac,” by 10,000 Maniacs
In this performance, Natalie Merchant starts off by reading a brief biography of Jack Kerouac. Then, they jump into this song, which reads like a letter to Kerouac from the opening lines, “Hey Jack Kerouac, I think of your mother and the tears she cried, she cried for none other…” A song about a literary figure and the life of an artist.
Track 12: “Everyday I Write the Book,” by Elvis Costello and the Attractions
For mixtape purposes, I consider this a response track to the previous song. This song was the first hit for Costello and the Attractions in the U.S. It uses the process of writing a book as a metaphor for love and a relationship. One part sings, “Chapter One, we didn’t really get along; Chapter Two, I think I fell in love with you…” Costello himself referred to it as a “bad Smokey Robinson song.”
Track 13: “Unwritten,” by Natasha Bedingfield
I have to admit; I didn’t think this song would be a good fit. But hey, sometimes that’s the magic of a mixtape: Each song raises the others. But I love lyrics like, “Staring at the blank page before you” and “Today is when your book begins.” It hit number five on the Billboard Hot 100 in 2006; so there are at least a few others out there who dig it too.
Track 14: “Word Crimes,” by Weird Al Yankovic
As long as we’re getting into weird territory, it’s time to slip in Weird Al and maybe the best grammar-related song ever. A parody of Robin Thicke’s “Blurred Lines,” “Word Crimes” has too many lines to do it justice in a short blurb. But it breaks down the proper use of “it’s” and “its,” in addition to talking about the best time to use the world “literally.”
Track 15: “Oxford Comma,” by Vampire Weekend
From a song about grammar to a song that focuses on one of the more contentious grammar issues of all-time: the Oxford comma. Use it? Don’t use it? In this song, Vampire Weekend seems to be saying, “who cares?” Writers, that’s who! Am I right?
Track 16: “Writers Retreat,” by Lloyd Cole
This is when you know we’re getting real on this mixtape: grammar, Oxford commas, and writing retreats? Heck yeah! This is the writing life. In this song, Cole laments how he won’t be there when his lover returns from the writers retreat. From the chorus: “You can write a book while falling apart.”
Track 17: “I’ll Be Your Sylvia Plath,” by Laurel Brauns
This is a sweet, little connector song between the few rollicking romps before it and the final three of this writing music mix. I wish I could share more about this song and the artist, but it was really unknown to me before being recommended on Facebook. The power of social media!
Track 18: “Romeo and Juliet,” by Dire Straits
Considered a classic song by many, “Romeo and Juliet” riffs off the Shakespearean play of the same name. The Dire Straits version is amazing, but I also love the one by the Indigo Girls (listen here). This song is for the literary minded, the broken hearted, and people who just like great music.
Track 19: “BMFA,” by Martha Wainwright
The actual title for this song is a little censored, but multiple folks recommended the song on social media. And I like it. So I’m including it. The song’s opening line is, “Poetry’s no place for a heart that’s a whore.” And eventually there is quite a bit of swearing. If that’s too much, skip this track so the kids can’t hear it. If it’s not, turn up the volume and sing along.
Track 20: “Box Full of Letters,” by Wilco
This is what I call a framing song. The first and final track are both about letter writing. Ha! But seriously, this is a great track that begins, “Got a box full of letters, I think you might like to read…but they’re all addressed to me.” Also, “I just can’t find the time to write my mind the way I want it to read.” And honestly, that about sums up how I often feel as a writer.

RCMP are obligated to pay the Aga Khan's island greater than $56,000 for Trudeau holiday|CBC Headlines
Tumblr media
The Royal Canadian Installed Police be obligated to repay the supervisors of the Aga Khan's personal isle in the Bahamas more than $56,000 for foods, holiday accommodations and jet ski rentals in the course of Excellent Administrator Justin Trudeau's disputable holiday, CBC Headlines has found out.
Three years after the trip, the pressure has certainly not however refunded the expenses "in spite of attempts produced to perform so," pointed out RCMP spokesperson Acting Detective Caroline Duval. While the RCMP point out
they have actually tried to pay out what they owe, their economic accountancy system commonly calls for invoices. The managers of the Aga Khan's island said in e-mails secured by CBC Information that they would like to be compensated for prices they acquired on behalf of the power-- however they do not really want any statements. Depending on to files gotten under the Get access to
to Relevant information Act following a complaint to Canada's relevant information , the Royal Canadian Mounted Cops sustained a$ 56,000 tab in 2017 for "accommodations/meals/jet ski rentals"for the Prime Administrator's Defense Information(PMPD), the RCMP unit that safeguards Canada's head of states. The troop said the costs were directly connected to
the unit's mandate"to give close security procedures to the Best Administrator and also his family members."The RCMP refuses to claim the amount of the
loan was spent on plane ski services, mentioning "carrying out thus could possibly expose safety and security particulars about the lot of employees assigned to defend the PM as well as his household."Records laying out the costs the RCMP possessed to repay list 5 charges ranging coming from$3,500 to$22,000. Duval stated nobody besides RCMP employees utilized any sort of plane ski rented on account of the power. The files also expose that the PMPD attempted to stop the expense from being showed to the public
. It asked that the$ 56,000-plus tab be spared from proactive disclosure and be censored to clear away endorsements to the prices being incurred in the course of the Trudeau family members's Xmas getaway. Under federal government guidelines, divisions are meant to proactively show information concerning contracts worth greater than$
10,000, unless disclosing them would certainly endanger points like social safety and security or national safety. In a memorandum dated Feb. 14, 2017, RCMP Manager of Arrangement Quality Control Markos Vennos questioned why the PMPD desired to exempt the spending
from declaration due to the fact that the vacation was over."I sent the reasoning for non-disclosure that PMPD offered up by means of my Director that consequently found assistance from our DG,"he wrote.
"She does certainly not feel that our team may exclude the contract from being actually divulged proactively."Because the costs has actually not however, been paid for, it has actually certainly not been actually divulged proactively. Trudeau has arrived in for massive adversary criticism over his choice to take the
excursion to the Aga Khan's special personal isle in the Bahamas over the Xmas vacations in
2016/17. Liberal MP as well as longtime good friend Seamus O'Regan as well as his other half Steve Doussis participated in Trudeau's loved ones on the isle, together with Anna Gainey, that was Liberal Party head of state during the time, as well as her other half Tom Pitfield, a longtime good friend and a vital participant of Trudeau's vote-casting initiative crew. Then-ethics commissioner Mary Dawson found in December 2017 that Trudeau broke 4 areas of the Disagreement of Rate of interest
Act, which governs social office owners, when he accepted the holiday from the Aga Khan. She refused Trudeau's debate that the Aga Khan, whose structure as well as Global Center for Pluralism bargain with the federal government, was just a household good friend as well as stated the vacations can be viewed as a try to determine Trudeau. A separate situation, which centres on the question of whether the Aga Khan broke Canada's lobbying guidelines, is actually to become listened to by the Federal Court of Beauty on Dec. 12.
The vacation cost the Canadian authorities greater than$215,000, with the RCMP bookkeeping for $153,504 of the button. The RCMP has not however reacted to a question from CBC Headlines regarding whether the
$56,000-plus it has yet to spend is consisted of during that overall. While other government departments have provided some details of their investing, the RCMP repetitively has actually rejected in the past to particular its own spending, maintaining that it can jeopardize the security
of the prime official. The documentations, nonetheless, offer new knowledge right into the expense of the vacation as well as the logistical difficulties postured through what the RCMP pertained to as the"Maple household deployment to Nassau, Bahamas.
"When he was actually a kid, the RCMP's codename for Trudeau was Walnut 3. On Jan. 1, 2017 in an email along with the topic line" Expenses for Accommodations/Meals/Jet Ski rentals,"Assessor Linda Blake, who moved
the PMPD release, stated she had actually inquired the manager of Bell Island to supply
a billing for the prices incurred while her police officers performed the isle. A 2nd e-mail to a Bell Isle staffer the exact same time describes doing" the true estimation on the meals, plane ski and watercraft."A distinct documentation, allowed RCMP Criteria for Alarm Isle Attendee System, provides five separate charges. While the descriptions are actually blanked out, a cost for $18,000 appears to relate an endorsement in the RCMP e-mails to a dish gratuity. The RCMP claimed the food costs were for RCMP employees only. A second fee is for $22,000.
The RCMP declined to point out whether the volume was for cottage, mentioning to accomplish therefore would show particulars about the amount of personnel appointed to defend the PM and also his family members. That leaves behind three staying
fees for $8,400,$ 4,500 and also $3,500-- one or additional of which are actually for jet ski rentals. The documentations likewise uncover that the unconventional selection to getaway on a private island in the Bahamas activated an authoritative problem responsible for the scenes. The RCMP had a hard time for months to find a way within its existing financial device to pay the costs it
had actually incurred on the isle, while the isle's supervisors were adamant they failed to desire to give out a billing. They acquired quite testy when a senior RCMP police officer attempted to draft one for them."I have discussed this situation and our experts are actually really concerned that you went ahead of time as well as produced a statement on our part after we specified many times that our company may certainly not provide statements,"created Alarm Isle supervisor Gordon Overing on March 23, 3 months
after Trudeau's go to."We are CERTAINLY NOT an organisation and also have no certificate to give out billings.
As explained, this ought to be actually dealt with as a repayment for products leased in support of the RCMP."Through April, the problem still had actually not been actually dealt with."It seems like our typical federal authorities repayment unit is actually certainly not appropriate with the Bell Island operations, "composed RCMP Superintendent Pierre J.G. Ménard, supervisor of Close Security Particulars."Isn't certainly there any sort of technique that our team may discover a solution to pay them that will please both the federal government monetary red tape and also the Alarm Isle supervisors."
The papers supply tantalizing peeks of what lifestyle felt like on the Aga Khan's private island throughout Trudeau's remain, and also what one Bell Island staff member called "the full Bell Isle expertise.""Things must begin to
receive a little bit more busy over the following handful of times,"states an interior email to workers on Bell Island, which consisted of the isle's manager of marine operations as well as another team member whose LinkedIn profile page explains him as a valet and gentleman's gent to a royal family in France."Our team are actually heading to reach 31 visitors for NYE( New Year's Eve )and also 35 attendees coming from the 1st to the 4th."It emerged after Dawson's report that then-U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry got on the island at the exact same opportunity as Trudeau.
Trudeau mentioned he had a chance to speak with Kerry concerning the state of the world and the inbound Trump administration. He illustrated lunch times and dinners along with about 20 people around the table. It is actually certainly not known who else attended on the isle at the opportunity past the Aga Khan, John Kerry, Trudeau, his family members and visitors.
All at once Trudeau as well as his household existed, the Aga Khan's team intended a trip on the Aga Khan's
46-metre high-end private yacht Shergar. The head of state's workplace refused continuously to state whether Trudeau and also his loved ones or guests voyaged on the Shergar. In May, Conservative movie critic Peter Kent required the RCMP to check into the trip, citing a provision of the Wrongdoer Code that restricts social representatives coming from accepting a benefit coming from somebody who has negotiations along with the authorities. But in a letter to Kent dated Aug. 19, RCMP Brenda Lucki informed him the force reached the final thought that it can certainly not"completely go after
an unlawful examination." Kent mentioned he considers to elevate the concern when Assemblage resumes resting. Elizabeth Thompson could be hit at [email protected]!.?.!

“Of originall English romances, written in competition with the French masterpieces , the Parthenissa of Lord Orrery (1654) is the best known.” (Encyclopaedia Britannica 11th edn vol. 19 p836 ‘The Novel , Edmund Gosse )
Educated at Christ church, he joined the wits engaged in a struggle with Bentley, who represented the scholarship of the Cambridge whigs. Sir W. Temple had made some rash statements as to the antiquity of Phalaris in a treatise on ancient and modern learning, and this was the subject of attack by Wotton, a protégé of Bentley’s in his ‘Reflections on Ancient and Modern Learning,’ published in 1694. By way of covering Temple’s defeat, the Christ Church scholars determined to publish a new edition of the epistles of Phalaris. This was entrusted to Boyle, who, without asserting the epistles of Phalaris. This was entrusted to Boyle, who, without  asserting the epistles to be genuine, as Temple had done, attacked Bentley for his rudeness in having withdrawn too abruptly a manuscript belonging to the King’s Library, which Boyle had borrowed. Bentley now added to a new edition of Wotton’s ‘Reflections’ a ‘Dissertation’ upon the epistles, from his own pen. Boyle was aided by Atterbury and Smalridge in preparing a defense, published in 1698 entitled ‘Dr. Bentley’s Dissertations … examined.’ Bentley returned to the charge and overwhelmed his opponents by the wealth of his scholarship. The dispute led to Swift’s ‘Battle of the Books.’” .

The family patriarch, Richard, Great Earl of Cork, expressly forbade his children the reading of romances. Upon learning that his sons Roger and Lewis were reading plays and romances while on the Continent under the tutelage of Marcombes (as Robert and Francis would be two years later), he issued a strict order that such corrupting entertainment be stopped.9 The Great Earl’s injunction apparently had little effect, sinice in 1651, Roger, Earl of Orrery, published Parthenis- sa… a work which, although very closely patterned upon French exemplars, is often considered to be the first modem English romance.10 Roger also bears the credit for introducing rhymed heroic dramas (again modelled after the French pattern) to the English stage… .in fact Roger became a highly-regarded playwright of the Restoration.11 Robert’s strong-willed sister Mary, Countess of Warwick, recounted that she too spent her days “seeing and reading plays and romances.”12 As for Robert, it has long been a staple of Boyle biogra- phers that he shared his father’s Puritanical opposition to romances. Peter Pett, in notes for an unpublished biography, recalled that his friend Boyle, at least once he began ethical and devotional pursuits, never “read either play or Romance; no not so much as those writ by his ingenious brother the earle of Orrery

Together with the several actions, inclinations and passions of both sexes, and of all their professions and occupations. Furnished with many delightful songs in various chapters. Compil’d and publish’d formerly by R.H. but now reprinted with additions in every chapter, to almost one half of the book, by the same author.

Bound in full calf recently rebacked. Engraved frontis. (plate) signed: Wm Bodley sculp. The most important primary source on Head’s life is William Winstanley’s biographical entry published in his Lives of the most famous English poets (1687) – a credible if not reliable source insofar as Winstanley could claim to have been personally acquainted with Head.  According to Winstanley, Head was a minister’s son, born in Ireland. His father was killed in the Irish rebellion of 1641, the incidents seem to be reflected in Head’s English Rogue, the satirical romance he published in 1665. His mother took him to England where she had relatives in Barnstaple. They later moved on to Plymouth, to Bridport and to Dorset where Head is known to have attended the town’s grammar school in 1650. Head was eventually admitted to the same Oxford College his father had attended (possibly New Inn Hall, from which a John Head graduated in 1628). His financial means being insufficient Head was taken from college and bound apprentice to a “Latin bookseller in London “attaining to a good Proficiency in the Trade”, as Winstanley put it. “His genius being addicted to Poetry” he published his first poetical and satirical piece which Winstanley recorded as Venus Cabinet Unlock’d. This may be a reference to Giovanni Benedetto Sinibaldi’s The cabinet of Venus unlocked, and her secrets laid open. Being a translation of part of Sinibaldus, his Geneanthropeia, and a collection of some things out of other Latin authors, never before in English (London: Philip Briggs, 1658). Head married around that time. A second addiction to gambling cost him the profit he made as an author and with his shop. Head moved – or fled – to his homeland Ireland, where he gained esteem with his first comedy Hic et ubique, or, The Humors of Dublin – printed with a dedication to the Duke of Monmouth at his return to England in 1663. The Duke’s recompense remaining below expectations Head had to survive as a bookseller with shop addresses (so Sidney Lee) in Little Britain, and (so Gerard Langbaine) in Petty Canons Alley, off Paternoster Row and opposite Queen’s Head Alley. Winstanley located him in Queen’s Head Alley. If his reports are trustworthy, Head gathered some wealth in little time only to gamble it away again a little later. The English Rogue (1665) solved some of his financial problems. Its tales of drastic adventures were based on the model of Spanish rogue stories (such as Lazarillo de Tormes 1554), which were fashionable due to the contemporary publication of Scarron’s Roman Comique (or Comical Romance, so the English title which established the genre), and savory with the events Head could claim to have based on his personal experience. The censor, so Winstanley reported, rejected the manuscript as “too much smutty”. The softened book edition sold brilliantly and created a complex publishing history: The first edition published by Henry Marsh sold out within the year. Marsh died that very year, Francis Kirkman the business partner, to whom Marsh had been indebted, secured the rights and sold Head’s title in four further editions between 1666 and 1667. It remains unclear how the ensuing volumes two, three, and four, published in 1671, 1674 and 1680, came to be written (a fifth was promised and never appeared). Winstanley speaks of Head as the author indiscriminately. In the dedication to his Proteus redivivus (1675) Head, however, explicitly denies a hand in any part but the first. Kirkman asserted nonetheless that he and Head were responsible for the third and fourth parts. The preface to the latter is signed by both men – facts which make Head’s belated disclaimer suspicious. Head’s imprint as a publisher is found on several titles. Works from his pen appeared until 1677. Winstanley reports that Head drowned on a journey to the Isle of Wight; the report itself was made in June 1686, and this generally accepted as the date of his death, even though more accurately it is a terminus ante quem.

Edward’s last name is also spelled Wettenhall, Whetenhall, Whitnall, Withnoll, and  Wythnall. He graduated B.D. at Oxford 26 May 1669, and was incorporated B.D. at Cambridge 1670. Michael Boyle the younger, the Archbishop of Dublin, brought him over to Dublin in 1672, as master of the blue-coat school. He was made a Doctor of Divinity at Trinity College, Dublin, became curate of St. Werburgh’s Church, and afterwards chantor of Christ Church.
At his own cost, Wetenhall restored the episcopal residence at Cork. As one of the seven bishops who remained in Ireland during the troubles which began in 1688, he was exposed to much ill-usage at the hands of the partisans of James II. He was probably the author of an anonymous tract ‘The Case of the Irish Protestants in relation to … Allegiance to … King William and Queen Mary,’ 1691 (27 October 1690). He signed the episcopal letter of thanks (November 1692) to Thomas Firmin for his exertions in relief of the distressed Protestants of Ireland. Only one Irish prelate, William Sheridan (died 1716) of Kilmore and Ardagh, was deprived (1691) as a nonjuror.
Wetenhall, who was translated as bishop of Kilmore and Ardagh on 18 April 1699, would not accept the preferment without trying to procure the restoration of Sheridan, to whose support he contributed. He restored the episcopal residence at Kilmore and rebuilt the cathedral at Ardagh (later demolished).

The preview for Season 2, Episode 83 of "ENNEAD" by Mojito is up in Korean!
There are a lot of ways to read the Korean, which I've listed here. If you'd like episode previews, Witchcomics, one of the official Korean publishers, typically puts out episode previews on their twitter within around 24-48 hours prior to new episode releases. Often it's actually closer to release, within a few hours.
Tumblr media
Season 2, Episode 83 should be up in Korean on March 9th, around 22:00 KST! Season 2, Episode 84 should be up in Korean on March 19th, around 22:00 KST!
The English translation of ENNEAD is currently 5 episodes behind the Korean and is currently on hiatus, but will return with Season 2, Episode 80 on 30 April 2024, around 00:00 ET (mature/uncensored version and censored version)! Here's a guide for using Tappytoon and unlocking episodes for free!
In case you missed it, other stuff in the fandom recently:
ENNEAD volume 1 is available as a physical release in English! Volumes 2-4 are also available for pre-order, though volume 4 isn't listed on Seven Seas' site yet (it's available on Amazon and Barnes & Noble, and should be up elsewhere soon!).
The Japanese physical release of ENNEAD will begin with the simultaneous release of volumes 1-2 on 24 April 2024, with various order bonuses depending on where you order.
The Italian translation of ENNEAD volume 1 has been released and volume 2 has also released.
There's a pre-order page for ENNEAD volume 1 in German, releasing 19 March 2024.
ACO's audio drama adaptation of season 1 is fully available to purchase digitally episode by episode. You need to buy the whole thing to get the soundtrack.
In a BNOW x ENNEAD collaboration, BNOW released an alternate reality card collection! There is a physical set of cards that can be purchased for international sale, and you can download the Korean BNOW app and use the cards you have to generate 3D models of the characters!

ENNEAD volume 4 English physical release up for pre-order! Release date 12 November 2024!
Tumblr media
ENNEAD by Mojito, the boys love manhwa set in ancient Egypt, volume 4 in English physical release, is up for pre-order on Amazon and Barnes & Noble in paperback and hardcover! It should be available on more sites (particularly international ones) soon! Volume 4 doesn't have a cover yet (which is pretty normal, since volume 3 only got one recently), but since it's following the Korean release, it should be Horus (which is the one here).
Why the paperback and hardcover versions of the English physical release have different age ranges: "Seven Seas will release two versions of the series, which were originally drawn for different audiences: a paperback version rated Older Teen, and a deluxe hardcover version rated Mature. (Each version is standalone but has alternate depictions of some adult material.)"
This mimics the modifications of the censored and uncensored release available on webcomic platforms like Tappytoon, Witchcomics, Ridibooks, etc. Below is a list of episodes with differences between the versions.
Season 1: Episodes 28-32, 42-44
Season 2: Episodes 19, 45-47, 71
Due to the episode allocation of the volumes, volume 3 should be the first with actual panel differences. Volume 4 should also have panel differences.
Currently, you can order volume 1 and pre-order volumes 2-3 as well. Given they are seemingly just making an English version of the Korean + Taiwanese physical release (down to cover + interior design), there will likely be 6 volumes of season 1. Season 2 is not out in physical anywhere yet. If you're outside the US and want more options, try calling your local bookstore if you have one, and asking if they have it or can order it. If you'd like a visual rundown of the comparison between paperback and hardcover, Seven Seas made a video here.
The manhwa online is currently on S02E82 in Korean, and on S02E79 in English on Tappytoon (and various other points in Chinese, French, German, Japanese, and Thai). If you'd like to read one of those, here's a guide. The physical English release is not just a physical release of the Tappytoon translation. While the text is similar because it's translating the same Korean text, there are a number of differences, mostly involving punctuation, but sometimes with more heavily modified sentences, and there have even been some corrections for errors in the Tappytoon text.
