any advice on finding uni/courses for animation? im currently in the process of looking but the closest uni with 2D animation is hours away and most only do 3D """animation""" which only focuses on game dev, vfx and 3D modelling/art which isnt really an interest to me :') feeling really discouraged by it so far
Most people move for uni, so tend to look far n wide for the right course. I was lucky mine was fairly close by to me and is well respected so it worked out well. Do lotsa research on what different courses do, that doesn't sound like a course that would interest you :(

Headliner: NoviNews (December 11)
WHAT IF YOU CONTROLLED THE NEWS? A stack of news article sits on your desk, two stampers on each side - green to approve, red to reject. Your reporting team is hacking away in the background as corporate music plays through the loudspeaker. It's time to make decisions. Will you endorse nationalized healthcare, even though your love interest is worried about increased wait times? Will you demonize the new synthetic alcoholic drink, even though your boss stressed they are an important investor? Will you support current government, as tensions grow between the neighboring country? After work, you emerge on the streets of Novistan, shaped by the very news you publish. Perhaps you will see more graffiti, angry bums or even a riot? Or perhaps you will turn the nation into peaceful utopia, filled with cameras and drones watching your every step? How will your channel address tragic events about to happen? Will you agree to meet the clandestine group of truthtellers, or stop to watch the Prime Minister's speech? On the way home you meet with three main characters: Evie, your co-worker and immigrant, worried about her health and growing xenophobic sentiment; your brother Justin, an aspiring comedian struggling with impostor syndrome and social anxiety; finally Rudy, a single father trying to provide for his little girl and keep his store afloat, while a mega-mart opens up next door. Each day provides a glimpse into their life and how the media shapes their beliefs. But every Headliner deserves to relax at home from the stress of the job. Listen to the radio and unwind on the comfy couch bought with hard-earned cash, as you watch the city burn outside the window. Perhaps splurge on treats to feed your doggo? Adopt a drone? Have your brother over for dinner? Or maybe keep your doors locked, hoarding every penny, as your apartment slowly fills with piles of cash? After good night's sleep, it's time to once again face to boss, new articles, a growing sense of responsibility, and.... power.

EDITING VFX
The very first effect i created was a zordon look for me for the interviewer to be placed on a video screen witch i did after another effect but this effect was easy as i already attempted it before with some test footage it was a complicated edit but easy to pull of, i first started with placing it into a composition then i added levels on to the footage and played around with the colors to get a nice looking color after that i added Triton and changed the mid tone to a blue to give a future look after i added a new solid this is used for the radio waves to give the footage depth and a unique look to it, the radio waves effect was easy to use i first changed the point were it should start and then i changed the frequency and all the other settings and created the radio waves effect.
The next i added a fast blur this is to give the radio waves a look if its apart of the footage, after i duplicated the footage to mask around the face to give it even more depth and then i added in a distortion stock video twice one rotated the op site way and the other normal, now the fun part i added an effect called card dance this is to give it the zordon look this was hard at first but once i tweaked the settings a couple times i got it right, the settings i changes were the amount of cards and the row and Columns and after that i changed the gradient layer this is to give the shadows and cubes a depth again the next thing was to change the x and z positions to give the footage more depth and give it a 3d look, after that i effect it was just to polish it of change the colors a bit to make it stand out.
I feel i pulled this effect of very well and in future will try to see how i make the footage more 3d like a full on 3d wall hologram, but the way i made it look just makes it 100% cool and unique and i do feel i could of planned the shot better to make the cubes more 3d and it doesn't destroy my eyes in the first video i created the second one not so much and the second one is a lot more darker and green and has a lot more particle effects on it, so overall i think i pulled this effect of well.
link to the video tutorial: https://youtu.be/-Je9Tw5FvG8
The next effect i created was the hologram screen this took the longest to create as i had to make many different assets for the screen to give it the effect, the first thing i had to create was the background screen for the hologram it self this was just creating a large rectangle to work with i then added some curves and detail to the background as you can see from the photos below.
Adding the detail was easy just had to duplicate the background 3 times and reshape the duplicates and changing the settings of them, the next part was to add some fractal noise to the main background to give it even more detail and a future look to it , this effect really pulls it of, after that was to create the assets to go with the hologram screen first i created a mini id thing for the top left corner which had animated text to go with it after that i made a battery charge assets that was animated to see how much power the screen had, the last few thing was a audio wave for the bottom left and more text also some animated lines.
of course for many of the different shots i had to re work the sizes and place them were they needed to be to keep with the continuity i feel i managed to pull it of with the way it looks i finally added some extra color to give is a shiny glow look after i created this i copied and pasted it to create a video hologram Skype call thing to for another shot i had planned, i feel what i could of done better for this effect was to make sure to have something to track so the hologram stays still and doesn't move with the camera.
here is the link to the video i used to recreate the effect: https://youtu.be/peWG9G6r4LQ
an extra effect i created was a pop up id card for the main character just to add to the suspense sci fi feel this was very easy was very similar to the hologram technique used back on a smaller scale of cause with this one had to make less assets to go with it it was more about the color and the way it looks
link to the video i used to create the effect:https://youtu.be/55PEEeNKOek
finally i recreated the effect from in time the countdown clock on the arm this was a very complicated effect to create with the different formulas i had to use for the effect i had to do this 4 times for 4 different shots and also had to change the time of each minute, second and mil second to keep with the continuity, the one main problem i had was is the effect was moving to much and i didn't know had to track the effect because i forgot to place dots on the actors arm so i could but i still pulled it of and it looks real for most of the shots i used it for.
some extra things i did to the edit was adding black bars n top and bottom on most of the video to make it more cinematic and add some color corrections and color graded it to give it the sci fi look i also added a loading screen as well, overall i feel i pulled of all these affect and next time to really plan to make it just as much better.
link to the video i used for the clock arm effect: https://youtu.be/chUOU0md9A8

Few decades back there were only comic or family stories coming to the theatres. The introduction of graphics and communication has added a delicious combo to cinema. We at Sahasra - Animation and Multimedia Training Institute in Hyderabad, India provide specializations in the subject. The specialization in VFX is right now the demand in the market of cine-field. Hence, selecting a career at Sahasra - Animation and Multimedia Training Institute in Hyderabad, India can pay excellent ROIs (return on investments) in future.

Tris, Quads, and N-Gons
Many things have happened since my last post here a month ago, and i’ve only just started writing on the day which this is posted so i have heaps to cover.
First, some updates before I dive into 3D modelling. The VFX course has changed again. Taylor mentioned something that I had suspected would be the case. Our summative no longer has to be a match move if we don’t want it to, and can instead be a simple fracturing and destruction simulation along with the use of daemons, and make it look compelling. In all honesty, I want to go ahead with attempting a match move as it is something I have tried multiple times in the past. An example of this is from the start of this year where I placed a ball and a cube on my desk back in Auckland. It wasn’t exactly fantastic, my shadows were off and it is a super basic scene which I did nothing interesting with, but none the less I have a feeling that I have what it takes to complete the original task.
I didn’t make the due date for the Weta Digital summer internship positions. I’m pretty bummed as a result but it has been a good lesson in what I need to learn for 3D modelling and animation. and also in time management. I’ve been visiting the Polycount forums recently and found their subforum of digital sketchbooks, which seem cool so i’ll probably create one of my own some time soon. Having a collection of professional social media accounts is something I also need and have needed to do for a long time now.
Just this past weekend I was at a game jam called Pxl Jam with 3 friends Luca, Marie, and Hunter. We made a game called Freezing Point which won a prize for its sound which was a pleasant surprise. Unlike Souper Kingdom Adventure from semester 1, this game was actually complete. I got a box of those Lindor chocolates with the soft centre as a result, so I did the most responsible thing possible and sat on my bed stuffing them all down my gob. Needless to say I felt a little gross after that.
Lastly for these updates, we had our formative hand-ins last week. I thought that they were fine and only just met the criteria, which is something I don’t really want to continue on with into the future. For sound, I felt that I needed to get the recorder out myself more, as I only ended up doing it once over the duration of the assessment. I also ended up cheating by using Logic which just felt so cheap, especially when I had so much time to complete it before but left it until the day before. 3D modelling was the same story, I left it until the very end just before the due date and actually ended up handing it in late which was just so stupid. VFX was the only exception, but even then I felt it could’ve been done better. All three were handed in, all three have 0% weighting on if I pass or not, and they filled their purpose as a learning opportunity, and damn if it has ever been one. I’ve found that i’m at an interesting point with my knowledge of 3D, sound, and VFX in that I know a lot about them, but haven’t actually put in the effort and time into practising them.
Interesting to note here is that I’ve also been looking at the TIGforums (which are fantastic too) and have been reading through some devlogs and looking at peoples feedback as they go. Something interesting which came up on the Return of the Obra Din devlog is on page 12 where where someone mentions the Polycount Wiki with its great examples of shoulder topology and just topology in general. Things I wish I had read earlier, especially for the formative. Not only that but the course coordinators pointed us in the direction of the Polycount wiki as a resource. All the more to learn for the summative!
The 3D Modelling and Texturing course has been a really interesting and revealing course into the world and practise of making 3D models, mainly for games and movies (and any media closely linked to those two). It hasn’t been all that easy to meet the tasks assigned by the tutors either. Taylor joked with the VFX class about how they have it way easier than the modelling course, and i’m inclined to agree. As practise, we had a couple of weeks to model our own robot models from reference images. Everyone, to my knowledge, stood up to the challenge and made a solid effort out of a fairly difficult situation. Our formatives were no where near as bad, as we had free reign over what we modelled. In the end I chose to attempt creating an organic character which set the bar a little high in retrospect. I left it until really late, and ended up handing it in late. I’m lucky in that I had no N-gons on my model save for a cone which I had placed in right at the end. As it turns out, maya doesn’t subdivide the bottom face of a cone like it does with a cylinder! By that point it was Thursday morning at 7:30 and I was felling tired and slightly down about how my almost 1 night model had come out. I realise now the error in my ways and multiple times over it has taught me what not to do for the summative.
Our summative is to do a very similar thing. We are to model something of our choosing, only now we are allowed to use a variety of new techniques which we are learning in this latter half of semester 2, and we have to texture it. Luckily all of the groundwork of what we are allowed to do has been set down so i can start way earlier (pretty much now) which I intend on doing. Texturing is more fun than tedious, though as I write that all I can think of is that video of Gray Horsfield so i’m proceeding with caution! That post seems to become more and more relevant by the day.
As a final note, i’ll try to post smaller WIP posts for each of these summatives coming up. All going well I’ll be recording audio this weekend so there will be some photos from that and i’ll finally write about the audio course. With both modelling and vfx i’ll try to put my thoughts on here with what i’m doing for both courses. I want the summatives to be something far more than what the formatives turned out to be, which I think is completely doable.
I’ve made a second blog, obwcmp-dg for Dumping Grounds, where i’ll post more lax content similar to rhinctus and rhinctus2.

I did this run as one long piece of animation from the bridge leap, across the bus roof, somersault onto car hood and down onto the street running. This #captainamerica “obstacle course” went through a number of iterations. Some including black hole grenades which were abandoned n the final cut. At one time Cap dove through an open car door window which was a bit of a stretch. The final run was much condensed which is the nature of film making. Still I had fun doing all Cap’s acrobatics. Once the action was approved I set the cameras in place to cover the action. Best way in my opinion. https://vimeo.com/185868877 #animation #filmmaking #animator #sfx #vfx #cinematography
