Hi! Former Wiccan here (now I just identify as pagan) Vaati has a *lot* of interesting theming!
His English name is similar to several words regarding wind; "venti" (Latin for winds, singular is "ventus". This is also the name for the minor wind deities), "vata/vāta/vaata" (lit. "Blown" Hindu god of winds and a divine messenger of the gods who also went by the names Vāyu and Pavana), and lastly its the same as the name for some wind dukes from D&D. His Japanese name ("Gufū" 具風 means storm, tornado, typhoon, etc). Our loveliest little wind mage was definitely destined to master the air currents with a name like his.
As for his appearances, it's hard to say if any one specific thing inspired any of them. I almost want to make an Eye of Sauron joke but I know that's highly unlikely and wouldn't fit at all. One of my friends pointed out that he looks a lot like a drow from D&D in his Hylian guise and as Vaati, Reborn (in my drawing of that form I had to give him night elf ears lmao). I also heard somewhere that he had alchemy theming, although I don't remember where or why. I think it had something to do with his crescent headdress? Also his favorite thing to do is to transform people (including himself) into different materials or things so I could see that.
Sorry I couldn't give more on his physical design elements!
I am currently getting interested in demon stuff since especially the Ars Goetia demons are in my fave media and I wonder if there is a mythological demon or god that Vaati is based on?
I know his demonic appearnce is based on the Wiccan sign for the Horned God which as far as i remember is either the Devil, Satyr or Hades but Vaatis powers and lore don't seem to resonate much with them?
You who know more about various mythologies than I do - do you know a demon or god that is uncannily similar to Vaati?
#i hope this is helpful!#i love mythology but his demon designs are just a tad too generic to pin on any singular inspiration#loz vaati#vaati#legend of zelda
