A Close Look at the Remaining Pokemon Regions

Pokemon has always been a franchise that is a part of society’s popular cultural preference. The obvious general consensus of its existence is how big a hit it was in the 90’s. The first few Nintendo games, card games, and the anime were massively popular with children, so it’s not a surprise the empire continued to build upon that. Additional generations of games, manga, and anime booted up every few years, updating the region that the story takes place and adding a new set of over one-hundred pokemon. Needless to say, this pattern accumulated a rather loyal fandom that would avidly wait for and speculate about the release of each new roster of pokemon. But within the general cultural consciousness, the first 150 that correlated directly with the region of Kanto would be the first pick for what could be bankable to a movie-going audience.

Fast forward to the year 2018 of the release of a game completely separate from the rest of the mainline Pokemon games called Detective Pikachu. This game was deemed popular enough for an immediate Hollywood film adaptation which was also massively successful. Detective Pikachu, the film, while made as a labor of love by Pokemon fans for Pokemon fans, still had to maximize profits. So, in order to appeal to a more general audience who may not be the most familiar with the closer details of the Pokemon world, they stuck to the original 150 Kanto roster from the 90’s. And as mentioned, audiences of all types loved the film. But this begs the question of just how far along the generational Pokemon timeline could still be bankable in terms of a live action Hollywood movie. Would your everyday casual moviegoer be interested in seeing a film featuring any of the pokemon released post-Kanto? In every game, the regional setting itself is in a way its own character and story. These regions are based off of real-life locations, which is part of their appeal.

Kanto is largely considered to be the center of Japan due to the fact that many landmarks known to a wider international demographic exist in that area. It’s where Tokyo, the country’s capital, lives as well as Mt. Fuji and the Aokigahara forest that surrounds it. Since the regions following Kanto were also based off real world locations, they all contained geographic landmarks that were widely known about. But which one is the most well-known? Almost automatically, the Jhoto, Hoenn, and Sinnoh regions can be automatically eliminated from the question. Again, when an international audience thinks about Japan, they think about the aforementioned landmarks from Kanto. They don’t think about the other regions of Japan if they don’t already live there. That leaves the remaining four regions, Unova, Kalos, Alola, and Galar, which are the stand ins for New York, Isle de France, Hawaii, and England respectively. These are all states/provinces/regions that attract large draws from tourist crowds all over the world, making them good fits for Hollywood film settings.

One might guess that Unova would be the obvious next choice. New York City is already a cultural staple and the location of many Hollywood films and television shows. However, if one still wants to take 90’s nostalgia into account, Unova would be ruled out, as although the original 150 could still be included, they would be bogged down by that region’s main focus, the Gen V pokemon. Generation VII, the generation of Alola, brought back many of the old favorites. They rebooted many recognizable pokemon from Kanto such as Raichu, Meowth, Persian, Vulpix, and Ninetails, but kept them fresh by giving them interesting redesigns specific to Alola. The most recent generation, Gen VIII, or Pokemon: Sword and Shield, continued this tradition, taking pokemon from previous generations and updating their designs. In Gen VIII’s case, they were redesigned as Galarian natives. However, Alola had a lot of the more nostalgic species upfront. They kept Pikachu, the franchise’s most iconic pokemon looking the same in appearance to keep the brand recognizable. This would keep from alienating a market that might be less familiar with later generations. If ever there should be a Detective Pikachu sequel, Alola is the place to set it.

           .many have grand dreams they develop over time. be it over one’s head or not, to seek or stay still does all the difference.  even monsters have dreams, and such are the ones with delusions of grandeur, confident int heir abilities to make these corrupt idea a reality.         Once the mainverse has been decided in a thread and Siebold is to take reign of a modern Kalos successfully, the verse will be regarded as KINGVERSE (or CROWNED DREAM). Due to the possible explicit triggering content, I will give appropriate warning before you continue.

  TRUE  kingverse, ( i call this true kingverse because on 100 there will be different variations of kingverse.  but for the most part, siebold would act the same in all of them )     This is the path in which Siebold has taken it upon himself to seek and capture the POKEMON OF DESTRUCTION, Yveltal. Either he acquires it by seeking it out personally, or he obtains it from the protagonist after hearing that he/she had been keeping it under their possession.    His inevitable sacrifice of his own soul leads for his own death ( in which he would take his own life ), allowing  the pokemon to harbor its powers within him, in return bring death’s hand over lands. Siebold’s main goal of kingverse is to become what is expected of him, eliminate all, beginning with those that dare defy him, including those within regions outside Kalos.        i.He appears deathly ill: clouded eyes & faintly discolored skin due to his corpse being left out for a period of time before being reanimated by Yveltal. Along with this, he becomes more reckless and erratic with his decisions, as if his mind is in a constant state of being near-death. He clearly show signs of a more deteriorated mental state, some may claim he is ‘mad’, similar to kings of the past. It will only become worse with added stress (from outside criticisms, tireless work that goes into ruling a land [which will get much more demanding as he conquers other nations], and the inevitable backlashes) .         Much of the blemishes ( which either cannot heal or heal terribly slowly ) acquired are neatly covered with makeup, yet due to his irregular eye shape due to death, he is unable to use contacts to mask his partially-clouded over pupils. This leaves him almost BLIND.       ii. Dependent on who he has wed, his actions may or may not be as destructive at first. However, as time passes, he will progressively ignore calls for justice or more methodical plans in battle.      iii. Siebold leaves behind the ‘legacy’ of his father as he is convinced that what he has become is well enough to carry on a name. Now, he paves his own name into more than a simple restaurant (though La Couronne, in Kingverse renamed simply  DUFOUR.  is still a restaurant managed under his name.) He begins a new era of his family’s name, and expects for it to be carried for eternity as he unifies the world under his own terms.       On the subject of DUFOUR. , it is popular among the rich folk still, & in fact also serves as a taste of tourists to know how it feels to be within a monarchy. It may as well serve as propaganda to get these foreigners to conform to the King’s views and relay them back to their home.     -it no longer hides the hidden café, and in fact has merged with it.    iv. The energies that animate Siebold’s corpse is stored in a gem-like creation that is fastened within a choker made of silver around his neck. This is why Siebold wear a tinted glass guard, to protect it. The one and only way to let the energy escape for good is to assume control of Yveltal or kill the creature, and destroy the object containing the energies on top of it. Though seeing the complications of capturing someone else’s pokemon, it is near impossible to capture Yveltal.    v. Cannibalism is legal , yet human meat is expensive due to regulations. What the monarchy dines on has automatically become luxury dishes, and so common folk are not seen practicing cannibalism often. It has become regulated to ensure the people that those being used are clean & are ones who have broken specific laws.

Omniverse,   With the successful control of ALL THREE Kalos legendaries, he has complete control of life under his fingertips. With destruction brought to the earth, it brings keepers of other orders on earth. The mind of a human brings tireless battles for many legendaries to bring peace, sadly to no avail. By force, the evil, this KING, destroys much of the earth and plunges it into a sort of apocalypse  in order to draw out the creator, ARCEUS,   He promises order and peace to people and pokemon as long as he is given the highest position, and to slay this creator.        i. His mental state is entirely imbalanced at this state. He may have bouts of violence outbursts at the smallest of problematic situations. He instills fear even more so over the lands he once ruled. Groups formed to seek safety away from the atrocities are even fearful of being killed off by the heirs under his command.       ii. He demands to be treated as great as a GOD (or even higher than), and would capture and treat any who openly practice Arceusism  as sacrifices and claims these practices are against him. Churches are erected in his greatness as he attempts to brainwash his people into worshiping him.      iii.  Unlike in the true kingverse, Siebold does not become ‘immortal’ going into OMNIVERSE. He seeks the powers of Arceus, so he refuses to be linked with any other.            Also, unlike kingverse, he does not settle at simply ruling his world. Thanks to technologies discovered in Alola & Sinnoh, he sets out to have the technology created to successfully venture to other universes to conquer. Later in the verse, he even establishes a new home within the limbo of different universes and any children he has are given the responsibility of watching over ruled lands in his absence.      iv. Once he manifests the powers of Arceus, there is no known way of getting rid of him. Good luck.

Alright, T for Trainer. shes from kalos, so, a french name? i like Adrienne. ooh, Marielle looks cute too. neither really have meanings relevant to her character, though. uh... I like Charlotte? charlotte is a nice name. keeps the t sound, which wasnt required but i thought would be nice to keep. plus it refers to her fightin spirit with one of its possible meanings, so i like that! call her Charlotte!

alright. V for Volunteer. now, he’s from Hoenn, which means probably japanese? dont see why not, even if that is a lot less hard and fast (like, kalos is fairly consistently French AS Fuck with names but the 4 japanese ones are a lot more broad. that could be a localisation thing though). uh.... hmmm... I like Akio, thats cute. Ren is also cute but i dont wanna double up letters for Bigger characters? like, for the characters are actually interesting and have thought put into them? the gym leaders that do less can double up, im cool with that. but i dont want Rhia and Ren, yknow, its one or the other, not both. but Akio is nice. Daisuke is also nice but i pronounce it wrong soo maybe dont do that one. lets call him Akio for now!

nooow, R for Researcher. whatchu gonna do, friend. welllll. uh.... it depends, i guess? i mean, it oughta be hawaiian since theyre from alola, thats cool. whether it should be a specific gendered name or a unisex name??? idk. the latter might be the safer bet so that if i change my mind about their character, it can still fit. lets see. hmm, a lot of K names, alright. uu, i like Konani? not much. a lot of these unisex names seem to have an overwhelming feminine slant in ratings, uuu. theyre all goddamn feminine, fuck me. alright. i can handle it. uh.... i like Kaimana! it sounds very nice, and at least to me doesnt sound overwhelmingly feminine like a few of the other names. just from an english slant, anyway. -lani sounds fairly feminine to my ears, lmao. i like that works! plus it can be shortened to Kai if i feel like being brief. im into that. Kaimana it is!

so, the Tourist Crew - Charlotte, Akio, and Kaimana. trainer, volunteer, researcher. very nice.

then theres the rival and the other player character but im probably gonna hold off on the player character until i have like.... designs for them. the rival i can probably do, though. lets have a gander. hm... I like Lyall, though it sounds old as balls. Connor is more contemporary and probably sounds better. ceeeeepppptttt that leads to a C double up with Charlotte. Zeke is nice.... ooh, Griffin is a good one. its a good damn name.... of course if i name the rival Griffin ill go mad so maybe i shouldnt do that. Zeke is nice, though??? i like Zeke!

alright, so the rival is called Zeke. he’s an older boy, a local, possibly has knowledge that Seren existed in his home town at some point in the past, but it is important to remember Rhia is like, 23, and Zeke is like........ 14??? 16???? like he’s not that old. he’s older than the player, but not by too much, is the idea. soo when Seren went missing he wouldve beeeeeeeennnnn..... anywhere from 4 to 8? so idk. probably a vague understanding that she exists, but not enough to like. know anything. very unlikely he ever met her. but there you go, huh.

i like these names. these are good names. :)

Dan sampe sekarang masih bermimpi berdiri sesungguhnya di tempat – dimana diri pertama kali jatuh cinta dengan negara Jepang dalam sebuah bingkai foto dan bertekad menyaksikan pemandangan gunung yang ditutupi daun kemerahan secara L I V E. Yap! Hokkaido di musim gugur.

Mimpi itu masih dipelihara sampai sekarang setelah sekian tahun sejak jaman maba. Seiring dengan kesibukan melototin laporan, nilai-nilai praktikan, tidur di kelas, main Moodo Marble (yang sekarang lebih dikenal sebagai Get Rich), temenin Si Suketi melaut sampe subuh demi data skripsi, dan ngurus skripsi sendiri akhirnya lupa. Namun tetap saja kalo ditanya mau ke negara mana, ya cuman Jepang jawabannya. (Psstt! I only want to go to Japan as a tourist not as student. Aamiin)

Waktu tau menang undian tour Eropa, senang kammainG (bukan main) tapi sebelum tidur tetap saja ngelamunnya: itu tour Eropanya gak bisa diganggu gugat ya? Gak bisa diganti ke negara lain? Jepang, mungkin? Ya Allah, Jepang duleh…

{ ♚ } - At the moment, Hikari was looking through her pokedex at all these new pokemon she hadn’t seen before. After a trip to the regions pokemon Lab, her dex had been updated so she had been messing with it. Her Klefki would chime and sound a bit as it’s trainer looked at the new entry on the pokemon.

   “Clinging keys threateningly...” A giggle snort came from the young woman, causing a small whine to escape the pokemon. Not seeming to understand why it’s trainer thought that was so funny as it shook it’s keys. 

   “So mad- Come on I’m just teasing.” Hikari jested, earning a scowl and another whine from the steel-fairy pokemon. Suddenly the key pokemon seemed to perk up at the sight of the red head male. Seeming to forget it’s annoyance as it rushes over to greet him letting out a playfu and softl jingle with it’s keys.

   “Oh well hello there,” The young woman greeted in english, hoping that this Kalosian understood English as she did not know French. Also she seriously doubted that he knew Japanese or Russian either. “Were you standing there long? Sorry I was just distracted because there’s so many new and interesting pokemon I haven’t seen yet~”

ooh ooh!!! an idea. if Rhia and Elliot are tied together through their use of the sinnoh starters (and with either the Professor or the Champion or a different Elite Member having the 3rd one), other trios should ALSO be tied!

for instance, the tourists! the three of them should have a starter set. but which region? alola, kalos, or hoenn? idk. maybe it should be the Researchers set, which means the alola starters. that’d make sense, since They’d be the character most capable of wiggling strings and getting that to happen. admittedly T coooouuulld probably convince her native professor (that is, fucking.... oh god. Sycamore, thats it, jesus christ) to hand some over, considering Sycamore is clearly Loaded when it comes to starters. he gives you like, three????? three???? he gives a least two but im positive he gives you another. that or it was Shauna? idk. you get a lot of pokemon handed to you in xy. but, given that T is a strong trainer, it stands to reason she COULD do that. could. would she? idk. and then theres no real way that V could get a set for his friends. loves them dearly, but he has very little connection to breeders and the professors, etc, so he can’t really make that happen. if anything, he’d have this really random collection of pokemon eggs that he’d give to his friends (and especially to R) that he might get from people who are really grateful for his help. thatd be it. starters specifically? probably not. V has Popplio. Not sure which of R and T has Rowlet or Litten. lemme check. well.... hmm. T’s personality means it makes sense for her to have Litten? id be ok with that. means R has Rowlet, and i think thats the more..... interesting pokemon anyway. good for fun tidbits, yknow, like ‘did you know this is the only starter pokemon that starts with a dual typing???? and changes its secondary type in its final evo??? isnt that cool??????’ they’d think it was very cool and they would love their hoodie archer child.

though if the tourists are a three set..... who is YOUR third member. you and your rival are two of them, with your rival definitely being the type advantage sort (so not shauna or Hau or Bianca). but then who is that, for you? eeelliot??? seems weird to give him two starters, even if both starters make sense for him to have. plus the issue is that if you picked the grass starter, he’d have two water starters??? empoleon and the one that relies on you. so id rather separate that. who can serve as a third? the professor could, which removes her from the Rhia/Elliot set (meaning the Infernape goes to either the Champion or an elite 4 member). which is fine, i suppose, but im not sure when youd actually FIGHT the professor to make that set have any meaning. it COULD be the other player character, the one who didnt pick? but where would THEY slot in????

ACTUALLY. ooh this would be kinda neat too. Maaaaayybe. the other player character is a gym leader??????? or an elite??? having multiple change-y elites seems like overkill (even if the character doesnt actually change, just their gender and sprite. they’d have a neutral name, like Alex, to minimise effort). but i think that’d be kinda cool! issue with that is that having them have the third starter would mess with typing, and i dont want two elite 4s with mixed teams (as Rhia/Elliot have mixed teams). and a gym leader with a mixed team??? eh. unless they would sorta like, uh, Striaton City gym (spelt it right for once). where like, its the first gym, and they change types. but then why would they pick the type youre STRONG against??? unless it was more in depth than that. like ‘oh, you picked fire? well, here’s my grass type. neat, yea? oh, you knocked it. well, heres my grass/water pokemon! haha!’ or something? eh. not sure i dig that. mostly because striaton gym was kinda lame. i mean, they only used it once, for fucks sake. uh.... hmm... it doesnt really work that great if they have the weaker one..... or... maaybbee.... uh....... Small Fry??? the original idea for SF is that they were a weak trainer, a naive soul, who was manipulated by Dante into taking the fall for him, by putting him at the head of the Team. and while parts of that aren’t true anymore.... it could be interesting??? to play up that angle. even if that would substantially lessen the potential impact of your Rival being in the Team if you fuck w/ him. hmmm................ god, idk. maybe not??? maybe they should be for some other optional content? like how the other player in bw1/2 is for battle subway only? seems kinda boring and would wholly depend on which side activity is present. given this is Victoria (or Urica lol), pokeathlon would make more sense. yknow, the hardest fucking optional game to implement. lol, fuck. fUUUCK. i dont know where the other player character goes. unless they also accompany you, either in an Ethan/Lyra way or in a Brendan/May way??? i.... dooont see why not? would require their character having a distinct rival arc. like, the routes for the Actual Rival is to either fight by your side, live his own way, or actively antagonise you. to be a good guy, to be neutral, or to be a villain, essentially. but you cant just copy the same thing for the other player character. that’d just be poor form. gotta be unique. but similar. they dont join the evil team though...... THOUUUUUGGGH.... now i say that, having the other player join the evil team is some actually kick ass shit nd i love it. echoes that idea of players actually wanting to be in those teams. thatd be actually fucking radical. so should the rivals trajectory be changed??? AAAAAAAAA fuck. hhhhhhhhhhh. what would their routes BE, then. uhh.......... fuuuuck. maybe, instead of joining the Team, they join the Org??? which, while the same entity, have vastly different repurcussions. after all, the Org is ‘good’, and a lot of people are in it to do good, as opposed to the Team which are bad boys all day. with the alterations being that if you treat them WELL they join the org, rather than the other way around??? which could actually be kinda neat. like, you treat them nicely, so they decide to be like, helpful in general, and join the group making this possible. whereas if you treat them like shit... they just sorta..... exist. you stunt their growth. you hold them back from their potential. whereas if youre neutral, theyre generally proactive but not really doing much. they dont really NEED to, but, yknow.

thoughhhh. idk. maybe they should join regardless? and your actions influence which group they join? there are three, after all - security, safety, and healing. or whatever. police, fire fighters, ambulance. which doesnt aaaactually change much? mostly just like, ooutfits? or some lines. their general presence would still be similar, surely?

{ ♚ } - It was difficult being a foreigner, if it wasn’t for the fact she learned english at a young age it would probably have been difficult to get around. Her Lucario was also a reassuring presence in this crowded region. Feeling the hustle of Lumiose City was a reminder of how much tourism was here. Though that was why she came here in the first place as a break from champion duties.

     Still, maybe she shouldn’t have wasted all of her money on the expensive boutique designer clothing. But it was just to cute to pass up!

   “Well Lulu, where do you think we should go next?” She questioned, looking over at the Lucario who was carrying the other half of her purchases. It’s ears perked and it looked like it was about to warn it’s trainer to watch where she’s going. Till someone bumped into her causing her to drop everything one hand.

   “Ah- Hey!” She snapped in her native language, temporary forgetting that not many people in this region understood Japanese. Her face contorting in annoyance as she puts her hand on her hips. Not seeming to realize she was also at fault for not paying attention, “Are you just going to walk after making me drop my stuff?”

{ ♚ } - “Oh really? Well I would be delighted to be escorted,” Hikari piped, seeming so happy to have met such a gentlemen. Though after a second her eyes widened in realization as she looked over the older male. As if finally realizing who it was she was actually talking to. “If, perchance, the reason you’re going to the lab is cause you work there?”

     At the mention of his name her eyes widened with excitement as she claps her hands together. Practically glowing upon realizing that this was the regions Pokemon Professor who she heard quite a bit about.

    “Wow, I didn’t expect to meet this regions professor so soon. It’s a pleasure to meet you.” She piped, bowing a bit at the older male. “Well if you have a map at your lab that kills two birds with one stone. As I was actually also planning to have my pokedex updated to include all the new pokemon in Kalos.”

   If there was one thing Hikari loved most besides fashion and jewlery, it was knowledge and technology. Which was the main reason she wanted to drop by the pokemon Lab first since she was likely to meet new pokemon. She already had one kalos herself but her dex couldn’t tell her anything about it.
