I don't own a sgian dubh which is very tragic and I KNOW I'm much more goth than full traditional dress with this outfit so I don't HAVE to but I also. Do think it would be extremely fun to own one and also in the absence of one keep a multitool and a sharpie in my sock instead

An Overview of the Origins and Development of Men’s Tartan Kilts
Kilts have been a part of Scottish culture for centuries and are often seen as a symbol of Scottish pride and heritage. While kilts are typically associated with men, the history of the kilt is quite complex, with different variations and styles that have developed over time. In this blog, we'll look at the origins and development of tartan kilts for men, exploring this iconic garment's history and cultural significance.
Introduction
The tartan kilt is a traditional Scottish garment with a rich history. The word "kilt" is derived from the Scot's word "kilt," which means "to tuck up."
The first known pictures of people wearing tartan in Scotland are from the 1600s, but no one knows where tartan originated. Tartan was probably made so that Scottish clans could be recognized by their unique patterns of colored stripes.
In the 18th century, the British government made it illegal to wear tartan to stop Scottish culture from spreading and to stop rebellions. In 1782, the ban was lifted, and tartan became popular again as a sign of being Scottish.
The modern style of the tartan kilt for men emerged in the 19th century when it became fashionable among the Scottish aristocracy. Kilts were typically made from woolen cloth in a tartan pattern representing the wearer's clan or region.
Today, the tartan kilt is important to Scottish culture and heritage. It is often worn at formal events and celebrations, such as weddings and Highland games, and is a popular souvenir for tourists visiting Scotland.
The Emergence of Tartan
The tartan pattern, often associated with the kilt, didn't come into use until the 1800s. Tartan was originally a woven cloth that was used to make a variety of garments, including kilts. Weaving various colored threads in a specific pattern produces the tartan pattern. Each tartan pattern was unique to a particular family or clan, and wearing a specific tartan was seen as a way to show loyalty to one's clan.
Archaeologists have found pieces of fabric with crisscrossed lines in different colors that look like the first tartan patterns. These were found in Scotland during the Iron Age. But it's hard to tell if these patterns were meant to be tartans or if they came out that way because of how the fabric was woven.
During the 19th and 20th centuries, kilts for men became more and more popular because of new ways to weave and synthetic dyes. Today, tartan is a common symbol of Scottish culture. It is used in everything from traditional kilts to modern fashion.
Overall, the story of how tartan became a uniquely Scottish fabric is a fascinating tale of cultural and political change, and the fact that it's still popular shows how important tradition and identity are.
The Men’s Kilt as a Symbol of National Identity
The kilt became a symbol of Scottish national identity in the 19th century. Queen Victoria popularized it, and soldiers in the Scottish regiments of the British Army wore it. Soldiers wore the kilt in the Scottish Highland regiments, and it became a symbol of the Scottish warrior tradition. Scottish athletes wore the kilt at the first modern Olympic Games in 1896.
The Kilt in Modern Times
The men's kilts are still an important part of Scottish culture and identity and are still worn on special occasions and at parties. But as it has changed, it has become more flexible and easy to wear, with more styles and fabrics.
The traditional kilt, made from woolen cloth, is still popular, especially for formal occasions. However, modern versions of the kilt are also made from lighter fabrics, such as cotton, making them more suitable for everyday wear. These kilts often come in various colors and patterns, including contemporary designs not associated with any particular clan or family.
The kilt is also a popular choice for sports and outdoor activities. Many athletes and outdoor enthusiasts dress in shorts and skorts that resemble kilts. Many Scottish sports teams have joined this trend by wearing kilts or uniforms resembling kilts to show their heritage and sense of self.
From bags and hats to jewelry and other fashion items, the kilt has inspired a lot of products and accessories. It has helped to keep the kilt and Scottish culture relevant and accessible to people around the world.
Types of Tartan Kilts
Various types of tartan kilts for men can be classified based on their design, material, and the occasion for which they are worn. Here are some of the most common types of tartan kilts:
Traditional kilts: These are made from woolen cloth and come in traditional tartan patterns associated with different Scottish clans or families. They are usually worn to formal events like weddings, graduations, and other important occasions.
Casual kilts: These kilts are made from lighter fabrics, such as cotton or cotton blends, and come in various colors and patterns. People wear them for casual events and outdoor activities like hiking, fishing, or a Scottish festival.
Sports kilts: These kilts are designed for athletes and are often made from performance fabrics that wick away moisture and allow for a full range of motion. Athletes participating in Highland Games or other Scottish sports frequently wear them.
Utility kilts: These kilts are made to be useful and practical. They have pockets and other features that make them good for work or activities outside. They are often made from durable materials such as denim or canvas.
Fashion kilts: These are designed for fashion-conscious individuals and come in various styles and designs. They might use fabrics or patterns that aren't traditional or be made in a modern style that doesn't belong to any clan or family.
Hybrid kilts: combine traditional and modern elements, such as incorporating zippers or other fastenings or using non-traditional fabrics or patterns. They are often worn to express individuality while honoring Scottish heritage and culture.
Choosing the Right Tartan
When choosing a tartan, it's important to consider your family history and clan connections. However, many general tartan patterns are appropriate for anyone if you don't have a specific clan tartan. It's also important to consider the occasion for which you will wear the kilt, as some tartan patterns are more appropriate for formal occasions, while others are more casual.
Caring for Your Kilt
Proper care of your kilt is important to ensure it lasts many years. Kilts should be dry cleaned or hand washed, as machine washing can cause wrinkles to be misaligned. Kilts should also be hung or laid flat to dry and ironed on low heat.

There was a manic energy to Dmitri that was unmistakable, still riding on the high of what he'd done. Even if he hadn't quite got his man, he'd still killed a fair number of vampires in the Kremlin, finally acted on all the rage that had been simmering inside him for years. Despite the torture for information, the repeated druggings and being fitted with a collar that prevented him from accessing even the slimmest sliver of his power, Dmitri wasn't cowed. Worse than that, he felt elated, gleeful, untouchable. He saw the guards watching him with distrust, concern that he was going to do something stupid at any moment. It wasn't an entirely unfounded fear.
In the Undercroft, Dmitri made himself comfortable, lacked the obvious nerves of most new arrivals. All the slaves seemed to hate the clothes they were issued with, but Dmitri in particular took umbrage with them. Left to his own devices, he very seldom wore trousers, preferred skirts, utility kilts. He'd set about unseeming the pair he'd been given with his teeth, boldly, in full display of everyone, sitting in his underwear in the meantime. He'd think about how he was going to put it back together in the way he wanted later. Maybe this was a problem of his mood, lacking impulse control, not thinking beyond the very next action.
"Da? You want something?" He asked whoever had come to hover near him, without looking up from his task. He pulled a few fabric fibers from between his teeth. "Or maybe you know where to get a needle and thread?"

Since Käärijä has managed to rip all of his pants I think a good solution for him would be to switch to skirts. Kinda like the black utility kilts/men's skirts you see metalheads sometimes wearing. They offer great mobility and shouldn't be as easy to tear apart.
He would rock that look.

From early in the Sedoretu verse:
Aves moved ahead of him to punch a code into the utility bay lock.
The broad blast doors slid back. A wash of cold air rolled out, raising goosebumps on Talon’s skin and carrying a wave of strident cursing to assault his ears. For a moment, Talon didn’t move.
Off center, to the left of the central drain, Nephi was bolted to floor of his make-shift cell. He was spread-eagled and half-naked, stripped of his boots and upper clothing, leaving only his thick, Potolli-weave kilt covering him from waist to knee. Magnetic binders clamped around each wrist and ankle stretching him taut. Bruises were blossoming across his torso and jaw, dark against his pale skin.
Wrenching his head up at an awkward angle, he abruptly went silent. Then his eyes narrowed and his breath came out in a vicious hiss.
“You rankweed-sucking son of a tairn,” he snarled. “You’re dead. You have to be. Even your luck can’t be enough to stop a fracking grenade.”
“I have never relied on luck,” Talon said, levelly. “Just my people.”
The prisoner sneered. “I have people, too. Good ones.” His eyes glinted. “They won’t let you keep me —”
“I have no intention of keeping you,” Talon interrupted, his tone icy. “But I don’t have time right now to properly package you for your return, so I’m afraid you’ll have to wait.”
Talon shifted his gaze to the shadow standing silent in the corner. “Can he stay here?”
“He’s not going anywhere.” Mara shrugged, the movement barely visible. “And there's a drain. We can hose him down if he skrags himself.”
“Fucking bicce.” Nephi spat in her direction.
Mara ignored him, her eyes never leaving Talon. Taking a step back and turning away, Talon motioned with two fingers. Mara strode from the room and slipped past him. Up close, he could see the full extent of the damage to her cheekbone and temple, the deep blackness welling up around her eye as it started to swell shut. He caught, too, the subtle way her right hand braced her left arm, and his chest tightened.
Aves palmed the door controls and they snicked shut and then locked with a solid clang.“How did you know?” He demanded, the instant the locks engaged, whirling on Mara. “Why didn’t you say something?”
“I didn’t know,” Mara bit out. “I just… had a feeling. That something was wrong. I went to take a look around.” She gestured with her good hand. “And found him.”
“You and your gorram hunches!” Aves dragged his hands through his hair.
Talon had been tracking those hunches for six months now. Tracking and evaluating and researching — and from the tension in every line of Mara’s body, she knew his theory.
“Hit medical,” he told her. They would have a discussion about the gifts he suspected she was hiding, but this was neither the time nor the place. He gestured to her cheek, resisting the urge to touch her. “Get that seen to.”
She ducked her head in a sharp nod and then stalked off toward the lift.
“Shouldn’t you be headed there, too?” Aves prodded pointedly. “Even I’ve been by now.”
“I’ll go shortly,” he promised. “I know where I want to meet the buyers, and I need to instruct Corvis appropriately.”
Aves glowered. “I will find out if you don’t get cleared,” he warned. “And I will herf-besh-four you if I have to.”
Talon’s lips quirked slightly at the threat. “That won’t be necessary,” he assured smoothly. “You should get some sleep. I'll see myself to Annowirski’s care once I’ve done the rounds.”
“Yeah, well, you’d better,” Aves muttered. Heaving a tired sigh, he left, his steps heavy as he retreated toward the primarily living deck and the peace and quiet of his bunk.
Talon watched him go, aware in the quiet of how close he’d come to losing his friend — losing everyone. Setting his jaw, he returned to the bridge.
