Au where Shanks and Buggy became co-captains together.
Their crew is called the Red Pirates, both for Shanks' red hair and Buggy's red nose. Even though they didn't have their falling out, they're still emotionally constipated about each other and having been pining will-they-won't-they style for 20 years while somehow not realising the other feels the same.
They are best friends, they are co-captains, they are partners, they are boyfriends, they are married, they are in some kind of intimate relationship and both want to define their relationship as more but are too scared of ruining the careful balance that their strange friendship rivalry evolved into after all these years.
The moral of the story is change is hard but ultimately good and these old men need to stop pining and start fucking before their exasperated crew actually murder their self-doubting asses.

siren hero: uta!
i had one person express interest (i love u bee my beloved) and so HARK !!! uta backstory/lore be upon ye ♡
everyone please look at my my hero academia oc
Full name: Kotone Uta! Quirk: Siren Song, allows her to influence anyone who hears her sing! Hero Name: Siren!
Uta grew up with her single mother, Suzume, and her twin older siblings, Nana and Naoko. Her mother possesses a hypnosis-based power called Allure which allows her to emotionally compel anyone who hears her speak. However, Suzume grew up with an extreme lack of control over her powers and an internal need to be liked at all times, and thus had a habit of subconsciously forcing people to love her, which then led to those people leaving her once they found out about her powers/were released from her control. Because of this repeated abandonment, Suzume loathed her quirk, and began to hide it from others. Her ex-partner, Youta, was quirkless, and though Suzume genuinely loved him, he was inadvertently drawn in by her quirk, enough to marry and have three beautiful children with her. Nana and Naoko were born sufficiently quirkless, but Uta’s quirk manifested young, and when she was little she had almost no control over it, making it impossible for Suzume to keep her secret any longer. Unfortunately after Suzume confessed to him about her quirk, Youta had an identity crisis, believing his entire affection for her to have been a lie, and subsequently abandoned the family. Suzume, blaming her for being the instigator of Youta leaving, grew to hate Uta and her powers, becoming extremely neglectful and abusive towards her. Although Nana and Naoko acted as a buffer against her mother’s abuse, Uta grew up with a deeply rooted internal belief that she and her quirk were inherently evil and selfish, as well as the root of both her and her loved ones’ problems. Eventually Uta applied to UA in order to both leave her toxic home life behind and to prove to both her mother and herself that she can, in fact, be a good person.
fun facts about Uta!
cheerful and upbeat to an almost annoying degree. Is pretty much always smiling
everything about her has an overarching feeling of being too good to be true
a deeply lonely person. She finds it very difficult to form genuine connections with people because she always assumes that at least some of their feelings towards her are affected by her quirk and thus not truly genuine. She of course blames herself for this and would never express these worries to anyone she cares about, so instead she keeps everyone at arm’s length while still portraying herself as warm and friendly
is a bi-oriented aro! the closest she can come to a romantic attraction to someone is more queer platonic than anything else
has a deeply rooted fear that she’s destined to be evil and to take advantage of others
doesn’t really think she can be a good hero but at least wants to train herself to control her quirk in order to avoid hurting others
Uta looks a lot like Suzume when she was younger, another factor of why Suzume treats her so poorly
1000000% extravert
gyaru-coded
can play the drums, the guitar, and the electric bass. Her favorite is the bass and she is very very good at it!
has imposter syndrome due to her subconscious belief that people only care about her due to being unknowingly affected by her quirk
will often casually touch her friends and loved ones without even really thinking about it
can skateboard !! used to do it a lot with one of her exes. she can also roller skate
loves music, but because of her quirk she could never truly pursue anything involving singing, so instead she focused entirely on instrumentals and thus is actually a much more talented guitarist, drummer, and bassist than she is a singer
likes to express herself through her clothes and makeup
her hobbies include !! skateboarding, music, fashion, and karaoke
if she ever got the opportunity to, she would give up her quirk in a heartbeat

Ravarui is an independent multi-fandom multi-muse RP blog.
The blog is private/mutuals only and highly selective Personals do not interact, unless you got an RP Sideblog
Written and loved by Akki (she/her - 30y/o - germany)
Icons were made by @alyafae
Short overview of my muses as well as my rules under read more (in case the link doesn't work)
Shanks is currently my most active muse, so be prepared for a lot of One Piece content on this blog
Links:Rules - Muse list - Memes - Wishlist - Headcanons - Mains & Exclusives
Muses on this blog are currently:
Tony Stark from the MCU Red Haired Shanks from One Piece (Manga/HC-based) CANON DIVERGENT SINCE CHAPTER 1134
Figarland Shamrock from One Piece (HC-based/Plotting mandatory) John Marston from Red Dead Redemption 2 Cersei Lannister from Game of Thrones (book based with some show influence)
Request only:
Jaime Lannister from Game of Thrones (Book based with some show influence)
Arthur Morgan from Red Dead Redemption 2
Morzan from Inheritance Cycle (Heavily HC-based)
Disclaimer: This is a multimuse blog for muses of various fandoms. I am up to date to everything regarding all the muses I have on this blog, so this blog is NOT going to be spoiler free.
Recent spoilers, for example in regards to the latest One Piece Chapters, will be tagged however.
This blog will contain mature and triggering content, such as murder, robbery, kidnapping, mentions of slavery etc. Especially when my Red Dead Redemption muses are involved. I will tag triggering content like "murder tw" for example.
1) No Godmodding
If you do it, I’ll contact you and ask you not to do it again and change the part in the reply. If you do it regulary you will be blocked.
2) Portrayal
My Tony Stark is mostly based on the MCU since I have little to no knowledge about the comics. His relationship with Pepper is exclusive with @alyafae version, since we developed our headcanons together over the years and there is no way to seperate them by now.
Everything that happens in Movie Red is irrelevant for my portrayal of Shanks and will be treated as AU. So please do not assume that he raised Uta, unless we discussed it beforehand, because my version does NOT know her.
His backstory is heavily headcanon based and in my version he was NOT found in a treasure chest as a baby by Roger!
Post Time-skip Shanks has a tattoo that looks like this
In the verse where he is married to Makino he wears his wedding ring around a thin chain around his neck, and he keeps the ring hidden under his shirt. No one except his crew and the people of Fuschia know about their marriage. Please do not assume your muse knows about it, unless we talk about it before. I am more than fine with muses finding out about it over the course of threads! It just has to come naturally.
Arthur and John stay mostly true to canon. Arthur is mostly based on the high honor version, because that's how I play him in the game. John is mostly neutral, but leans towards high honor, can however also act more low honor, depending on the situation/muses
3) This blog is 18+ and mun is 28+
I will not write with anyone under 18, since I myself am in my thirties now and it just makes me uncomfortable writing with minors. Preferably people who follow this blog are 21+
4) Shipping:
Shipping is always welcome, no matter what kind of ship. If we're mutuals and you would like to ship our muses in whatever way, don't hesitate in approaching me. Chances are I ship them already as well anyway.
I am multiship in regards to all of my muses. The only exception is my Tony Stark muse when it comes to shipping with Pepper. That is exclusive with @alyafae
I also won't ship Steve and Tony. If you are a Steve Rogers blog and send something shippy in a romantic or smutty way Tony will not react in a positive way and will make fun of him for it.There are only two people who are excluded to this rule.
5) Triggers:
I have personally no triggers and I am willing to RP very dark themes as well. The only topic I will not touch is animal abuse. Otherwise everything is fair game.
If we write dark/triggering themes I require plotting/ooc talks! I do not want to make my RP partner uncomfortable.
Should we write something dark and you notice that you can’t bring yourself to write this theme anymore or feel in any way uncomfortable with the way it’s going: Please tell me immediately so we can talk and drop it if you need it.
You never have to worry when you bring something like this up. The well being of my RP partner when writing highly triggering and dark subjects is my main concern.
6) Activity:
I have a personal life and RPing is a hobby and not my job.
I try my best to do my drafts, but I don’t always have muse for them and some drafts take me longer than others.
Mains/Exclusives get priority most of the time.
So please be patient. You’re welcome to send me a small reminder if I didn’t reply in two weeks. Tumblr loves to eat my notifications and on top of that I have the attention span of a squirrel sometimes and also tend to forget to draft replies.
7) OC’s:
I am OC friendly, but picky when it comes to interacting/following them. If you have no about page I will not follow at all. No arguing. If you have one, I'll read through it and if I can see our muses interacting I'll follow. Otherwise I wont. It's nothing personal.
8) Duplicates:
I adore duplicates! I love exploring all kinds of shenanigans our muses can come up with, if there are two of them.
9) Memes:
This blog is private/mutuals only. It’s a personal preference so I can keep my blog tidy. Memes are open for everyone, even non-mutuals, unless stated otherwise in the tags.
My memes don't have an experiation date and it doesn't matter when I reblogged one. If you want to send something in, feel free to explore my meme tag and send whatever interests you. Spamming memes is also encouraged.
You're always welcome to turn asks into threads! Doesn't matter if we already have a lot of them going or not. It's always encouraged.
10) I wont accept asks like: Do you want to RP with me?
If I am following you it’s a 100% indication that I want to write with you and explore the chemistry between our muses.
If I am not following you and you send me such an ask it will be ignored. If you truly want to write something then come to me with an idea or send me a meme. They are always open unless stated otherwise.
11) Inbox memes/Asks:
Always specify a muse when you send something into my askbox. Especially when sending asks regarding Headcanons or little games like: Guessing my muses kinks
Unspecified asks will get deleted/not answered
If you forgot to specify you're always welcome to either hop into my DMs to clear things up or send a follow up ask.
12) This rule applies to ALL blogs that follow me (especially personal blogs)
If you reblog my roleplays when you are NOT involved in them, I will message you and ask you to delete it from your blog. If you don’t do this you will be BLOCKED without a further warning.
13) If I see you posting a lot of callouts and drama I will block you. I am to old to deal with this stuff
14) My IM is reserved for mutuals only. So if you have any question send them into my askbox.
Rules will be updated

The Hardest Lessons Learned
We’re actually given, several hints not only this chapter but beforehand. Including the chin touch as he says he’ll catch up, that Kaneki did not really believe he would make it out alive from this fight.
That Kaneki, while deciding he wanted to live and find a purpose for living, had resigned himself to his death once again.
In this chapter we finally witness what has been put off since basically 100, and that is true tragic consequence. Not from the cruelty of the world, but rather for it’s lack of forgiveness towards Kaneki’s wrongdoings. It’s Karma. Remember, everything that happened so far Kaneki has been warned of far in advance.
When Kaneki takes no steps himself despite being warned several times ahead of time, how can tragedy be averted? When Hamlet fails to avenge his father and spends the entire play in indecision. When Romeo and Juliet fail to think on their situation and their families and decide to get married instead. When Othello fails to trust or believe in his wife the smallest amount.
When Oedipus pursues the truth, but is at the same time terrified by that truth then how can he possibly avert tragedy?
Kaneki’s greatest fear, that he’ll be locked into his decisions and forced to bear witness, powerless to change the results.
Kaneki’s greatest oversight, that there is a reason behind all of the suffering in his life. That he is special in some way, that his motivation is stronger, the unfounded assumption that he is important, he matters, he stands above all others.
That he is the main character of a tragedy.
As assumption that makes him forget that just like himself, there are also people fighting for things that are important to him, to protect them, and therefore his own urge to fight or protect is not somehow more special, more stronger, or guaranteed to win him the fight.
We were warned as explicitly as one chapter ago, that we cannot fight our loss. That doing so is really an attempt to spare yourself from the loss, or substitute yourself into the loss and therefore the price for fighting your loss is always yourself.
We see Furuta lecture Kaneki, on other basic things he was warned about.
Kaneki is told, not to base his decisions on his feelings, to learn to trust anothers and not to base everything on himself, and most of all to make and stand with his decisions and we see him do none of these things. He renegs on the one decision he did make, he fails to trust both Tsukiyama and Nishiki with him to come with and provide support and instead goes entirely alone back home, he makes his entire decision based off of a bad feeling he had in the first place.
Furuta tells him as much, one small difference in the fight and he could have won. What that means is that Kaneki really has learned absolutely nothing since the last time he fought Arima and ended up in a similiar situation.
Unlike Arima though, Juuzou is not secretly fighting with the intent of bettering Kaneki. Kaneki’s unlimited supply of mentors who are willing to take the blame for him, and take the consequences for him, set up all things in his favor on the assumption that this time, he might move, seems to have finally run dry.
From the Anteiku arc forward, Kaneki has only ever moved as a result of another pushing him. Hinami begs him to save her mother, Itori pushes him to investigate the Gourmet, Ayato kidnaps him and bodily drags him, Yamori tortures him until he’s finally ready to defend himself. Aogiri moves on Kanou before he does. Uta tells him point blank where Rize is hiding. Touka tells him to go back to Anteiku. The Anteiku raid happens before he returns. Arima drags him out of V14 by the hair, but only after Hide told him to go down that route to fight.
Eto returns his memories for him. Kanae saves Tsukiyama, not him. Arima slits his own throat. Eto tells him to become one eyed king. Furuta stages an attack on the CCG for him. Furuta resolves the clown raids himself, by operating both sides of the conflict.
Kaneki puts off making any kind of decision himself for as long as humanly possible, and when he finally does make that decision he goes back on it. He decided to return to Anteiku, he decided to return to the 24th ward all alone.
We see countless parallels to the Anteiku raid. With Yomo saying that you have to live while losing once more, Touka choosing to run away from the conflict eventually rather than stay and fight, but I think most importantly of all Kaneki is once again stopped from achieving his want of protecting someone just short, by an equally obstinate force in Arata armor who just like him, refuses to change and instead chooses to protect what little they have remaining at the CCG.
Not only that, but also Juuzou and Kaneki much like Amon and Kaneki had no reason to kill each other, and yet still fought because each considered their reason far more important than backing down.
The translation for Jaiminis box is especially relevant here, for two reasons. One that Darum’s are supposed to carry each other’s wishes, and two that paradise is exactly what Kaneki was aiming for. A world where Humans and Ghouls could get along is certainly a utopia by the series standards.
Kaneki is a Daruma, an eyeless doll that was meant to carry Arima’s wishes. Yet, this chapter brutally tells us what the result of that ambition was. To break him, Furuta shows us where Arima’s hope, the hope of the garden children led them.
Yet, when Kaneki never once truly tried to follow Arima’s will, how could he expect a different result. He continued to use the garden children as child soldiers, even knowing that child soldiers could die, and as a result they did.
Ghouls were being slaughtered in the streets and yet Kaneki never once showed up directly to fight for the sake of ghouls. He let the situation get this bad, for the annihilation rate to reach 88% and still acted as if he had a chance at winning. The only thing that moved him to maybe finally directly confront Furuta was the risk of a human life once again. Kaneki only ever showed up to protect CCG officers, he wasted resources to restore Akira a human, he considered risking everything to save Yoriko a human. All while claiming that he was fighting solely for the sake of ghouls.
Kaneki blatantly and brazenly did not care at all for the masses he was claiming to be protecting, so why should he have been able to protect them at all?
What we are witnessing right now is an eclipse. The moon has moved entirely in front of the sun, and we see the shadows at their longest points. All of the characters involved in this chapter, are born raw to us at their deepest and darkest.
Suzuya Juuzou was willing to slaughter the entire goat base, and even his good friend Haise for the sake of continuing to prop up a corpse. Even knowing that Shinohara himself might never come back.
Touka Kirishima sacrifices basically everyone and everything in order to try to make it out safely, only to realize that Hinami, Yomo, Take, all of those sacrifices were in vain. Not only that, but even if she did manage to make it out alive, Kaneki has already been cornered minutes before she even realized her own hopeless situation.
Miza simply clings to Naki’s dead body, and stays behind even after everybody has left as if that’s the only thing to live for. Naki looks to be truly dead, with perhaps Miza to follow soon after him.
Take seems to have failed utterly in his last purpose, the last thing Arima entrusted him with. Two out of three of the children in his care have died, perhaps four out of five if we’re going to flashback to the Tanakamaru and Aura fight soon.
Ui remains nowhere to be seen, Mutsuki is fried, Yomo is lifeless and marching towards his own certain death now. Nobody has achieved what they want. A true darkest point.
Yet.. why does Furuta leave Kaneki alive?
Furuta has only bothered to leave someone alive on purpose once in the past, and it created the greatest threat to his power as the Washuu King.
Furuta is not tactically stupid enough to leave loose ends. After all, the only time he’s ever surprised is when the audience is equally as surprised as him, such as Marude and Matsuri both coming back from the dead to challenge him. In those cases, with Marude’s disappearance, and Matsuri’s having several V squads sent after him he had every logical reason to assume they were dead. Furuta’s usual MO though, has always been to kill all the witnesses present, whether Matsumae, the V members with Eto, and even his attempt on Urie and Kuroiwa.
So why would Furuta suddenly change his strategy now and leave it to Hajime to simply torture and toy with Kaneki until he died. It can look like sadism, but if you remember Donato similiarly toyed with Urie, and yet at the same time both left him alive and gave him the exact same words he needed to grow later on in the story.
It was in despair and loss, what Kaneki has been avoiding from the absolute beginning where Urie finally learned.
So we have Furuta, our cruel and relentless teacher. There are also several hints left behind in the narrative still that this is not Kaneki’s final moments.
1) The parallels between the Arima Kishou fight and Kaneki’s moment of realization when absolutely all looked loss [x].
2) The implication that Kaneki could reverse his problem with a massive amount of cannibalism.
3) The fact that Dragon has yet to make an appearance despite being the so called final boss, and also that Uta suggested Dragon itself could be a weapon against the CCG rather than Goat.
4) Furuta’s suggestion that first he would win, and then dragon would appear. Well, in this chapter we witness Furuta claiming his absolute victory without the appearance of dragon afterwards.
5) The numerous amounts of foreshadowing that Furuta was orchestrating his own death, and actually did not care at all for V and the Washuu’s wars.
(Furuta even makes a promise here that he’ll mess up the one eyed king for Eto. Earlier he suggests in gest that the two of them should work and cooperate together. )
6) The Nagaraaj. If the manga ends here then Ayato’s journey to the 24th ward was incredibly pointless. As well as the explanation about the old one eyed king. Ayato wouldn’t be strong enough to counter Juuzou so was the explanation simply to get him out of the way.
Or was it forehshadowing to establish that if pushed to this point, this is a power that Kaneki himself could summon. That the same way the Original One Eyed King sunk the 24th ward an entire city in order to retreat from the newly formed black investigators and V, that when it seems all hope is lost, Kaneki might summon this power from himself. That this could be dragon, especially since Furuta deliberately says Dragon is named in honor of his Washuu roots. The legendary Nagaraaj are also dragon kings in the japanese version of the myth, according to @randomthoughtpatterns.
Not only that but the presence of Oggai all around him leave Kaneki with a framed out source of RC Cells to buffet on, if he truly decided to keep fighting.
7) 143 Parallels
Chapter 143 of Original Tokyo Ghoul, was called Ken [x]. Chapter 62, where Kaneki reached a similiar realization was called Kaneki. Chapter 143, is completely without a title. In otherwords it’s nameless.
Perhaps then this is the chapter, where finally Kaneki accepts his role. Where he finally decides to truly become the nameless king.
Only after having learned from the loss he experienced right in front of his eyes, what exactly it was that needed to be changed.

Tbh Roma as the creator of The Clowns is perfect. Yes I was an Itori believer (NEVER Donato), but Roma is unexpected and would make much more sense to their purpose, nonetheless I only accept it if none of the other members know her age or that she was the original member. If Uta, for example, knows Roma's truth then it is not so exciting (because I like my Clowns as chaotical as possible). It's good to see another strong woman with her own agenda.
The fact that you like the Clowns to be a chaotic force in the manga doesn’t make it a good narrative choice. You can like them however you want; that pile of horseshit Ishida dropped on us last chapter? Not good storytelling on its own.
What agenda does Roma have, exactly? None. Hating being bored is not an agenda. It is, at maximum, a personality trait.
Let’s look at it from another angle. Greg House, MD, the main character of an eponymous TV-show hates being bored. It’s his personality trait. He deals with boredom by… having an agenda: solving medical puzzles.
Roma has agency, that’s true; she apparently is her own woman… who doesn’t offer anything to the plot. That makes her just another extraneous character. A villain who doesn’t have a reason for doing the things she does is, well, boring. Imagine reading a murder mystery with all the usual suspects and elaborate subplots and finding out at the end the murderer is simply insane. No, he didn’t really want to pocket his Uncle’s riches while implicating the boyfriend of the girl he wants to marry. He’s just crazy. Doesn’t it sound disappointing?
Also, frankly, out of everything we should be finding out about the Clowns their founder is the least important thing. Ask yourself: does it matter now? If it isn’t relevant to the plot now, it needs to go. Which is also why Uta knowing or not knowing about Roma is irrelevant; she’s their founder, not their master. What can they both do with this knowledge? “I created you!” she bellows. “You want a prize for that?” Uta asks mildly.
I personally have always found the Clowns much more interesting the way they were initially presented - as having no unifying agenda. Everyone is plotting for themselves and maybe as courtesy to a fellow Clown they won’t stab them in the back. Maybe. So I’m a bit at a loss what you mean by “their purpose”. Did I miss a manifesto?
At the same time, Ishida more or less always introduces characters with a flashback. I find Roma’s relevant because she mentioned the Nagaraja - or at least I assume she was talking about them. We might learn about them more through her. I just think mentioning the Clowns was unnecessary. I feel like anything about them at this point should be pay-off, but this chapter felt like a set-up instead.
Hilariously, Roma’s kakuja form reminds me of Mayuri’s bankai for some reason.

TG:re 126
Long post with all my thoughts/meta on this chapter. Talking about Yoriko, Mutsuki, Aura, Ui, Touka/Kaneki, Centipede-kun. Wrote part of this last week, finishing it super late now. But still counts as long as tgre 127 isn’t out yet :P
So Yoriko is fine and the hand was fake afterall. Touka’s “So that hand was fake all along” means that she actually didn’t know whether or not Yoriko really was in Mutsuki’s hand or how she was doing/alive. Makes me wonder what actions she would have taken if the wedding didn’t happen and also how much she actually talked to Kaneki about this matter, seeing that she was only thinking to herself about how the hand was fake and Kaneki didn’t make any impression that’d suggest that he knew about the severity of the situation. I mean, she could’ve just told him that she’s heard rumors that Yoriko was getting married to an investigator and asked Kaneki to bring her there so she could at least see her best friends wedding from afar. I’ve talked about this before, as I was wondering what actions she’d take to save Yoriko and how she didn’t open up about it to Kaneki so he had no idea what was going on. Now, the Yoriko situation seems to be solved surprisingly easy but I highly doubt (and hope) this isn’t the end of this conflict. Yoriko is a very important person in Touka’s life and her character development and it’s still an unsolved issue as Touka has been running away from it, to protect Yoriko but also fearing what Yoriko would think of her when she learns that she’s a ghoul (would she think that Touka’s a ‘monster’? - we know how it’s something that has been haunting Touka). (Btw, why hasn’t anyone brought out that Uta joke aka ‘What if Yoriko actually was Uta in disguise’ this time lol…)
that part about Mutsuki and Urie was something I was really pleased to see. I’ve been wondering for some time now about Mutsuki’s bond and feelings towards others (that are not Kaneki). Because of their past and then seeing how they went quite psycho, I began to wonder how much they actually cherish the other ppl around them. Also wondered about the nature of their special bond with Urie. AND the question that has been floating around lately: Is Mutsuki redeemable? And I kinda got my answers in this chapter? First things first: Urie got friendzoned really hard.
He is that one special person that is particularily close to Mutsuki: 1. both know each others ‘secrets’ (see auction raid, where they saw his vulnerable side and he discovered their biological gender) 2.Mutsuki was very open to him, talking about their wishes/feelings/thoughts and how they are tasked with the Oggai and even admitting to be in love with their former mentor and that they went to :re and 3. throughout the whole conversation I think it was very sincere and calm and sane on Mutsuki’s part. There was no acting, no facade. They’re still hiding things from Urie but…When was the last time I’ve seen this calm side of Mutsuki? 4. It shows the deep trust Mutsuki has for Urie. To actually trust others - this is really big deal for Mutsuki considering all the things they experienced and their current mental state. And we know they also care a lot about how Urie views them. Despite all, Mutsuki was worried about how to explain things to Urie when they attacked Akira on Rushima. It seems like Mutsurie is everything but just not romantic haha… (but my ship is still alive ok) Moving on to their bonds with others: Mutsuki expressed that they just wished that they all return to their former home (oh how I always get triggered by this word lol). And since I assume they’re not lying, I think it shows that they do cherish the others and holds dear the good old times they spend together. Kaneki is someone they clutch on, but he isn’t the only thing that matters and even if the priorities are very clear there, it still is interesting to see that there are other things that genuinely matter to Mutsuki, even after all that’s happened. - And that brings me to the question whether Mutsuki is redeemable. The things I’ve seen in this chapter from Mutsuki are shining a more positive light on this character. They didn’t actually hurt Yoriko (probably also because it’d cause lots of trouble) and mentioned that Bujin looked happy and she looked pretty and wondered if any of them would find such happiness. And I think I saw a genuine soft and good side of them shine through there. Also, it’d be easier for Ishida do redeem this character if they didn’t do anything to Yoriko because otherwise many would call bullshit and how this character is way too far gone to make any way of redemption tolerable. While it’s true that if we were completely honest and unbiased, then we’d pretty much have to judge this character just as strictly as we judge Torso, but we mostly don’t and that’s just how it is, as we (or at least I) feel more sympathetic towards Mutsuki as this character has grown on me more than Torso ever did.
And well, Urie still couldn’t bring up the real questions… What’s he gonna do next though? Will he concentrate on dealing with Mutsuki or will he start with Kaneki?
So the theory about Aura Kiyoko having lost her legs are officially confirmed now. That explains Shinsanpei’s actions (kinda). Still think it’s a bit extreme how he developed that bloodlust and psychotic attitude (he didn’t care about killing humans in the last arc and acted like he didn’t see anything when running into Mutsuki and Uta). This boy is way too deep into revenge imo. But it also depends on how close of a relationship he has with his auntie. If she is like a mother figure to him, then well, one could explain how he loses himself this much. There’s a post about how the way Aura Kiyoko acts is a bit suspicious. I agree. and to kinda add to it, I always found it weird that Aura and Mougan were even allowed to live when they have seen all their faces. And yet, after that incident, only Kaneki and Hirako were actively wanted. How come they don’t seem to be looking for Touka (remember how they were hunting for Hinami?), who left quite the impression on the two special classes? I thought they’d all go into hiding because the two who saw their faces where still alive but they actually didn’t have to change their life style at all. I dunno. Maybe it’s just a plothole? Afterall, Hirako and this kids where walking around publicly aswell, and dear Kaneki even rode on a train and had much fun… What I’m trying to say is, I actually like this theory that the oek and the special class came to some kind of mutual understanding back then (After Kaneki injured her legs).
I’ve got many questions regarding the Okihara thing. I wondered how the heck Kanou was able to control his zombie army and when they were first introduced, they totally gave off the near to mindless killer zombies vibe, altho Okihara did speak briefly and it let me believe that while he stilll had a concious mind, his body was somewhat under control by Kanou. Now, in this chapter, it seems like he could act on his own acord with some restrictions. The theory about how Kanou might be controlling them by bribing with the “medicine” but I still think it doesn’t hold too much ground bc is Kanou really that sure that all of his zombies hold on to their new life so much that they’d just do anything Kanou tells them? It’d be a rather unsafe way to ensure control (and it’s kinda dangerous if some of them turn against him while he thinks he’s absolutely got the upper hand). Let’s say for example if Shirazu is one of them. I don’t think he’d just listen to Kanou and do things against his own moral (especially if he’d face his old team). Now, the meeting itself with Ui seemed pretty secretive and it makes sense that Kanou/Furuta wouldn’t want them to work together or share info. So why was he even able to walk around freely in the first place? Or did he just sneak out of the lab? I wonder about his “The dead do not return.” It could mean that he wasn’t dead dead at the time Kanou got his hands on him (he didn’t directly answer Ui’s question on whether he definitely died afterall). But in context of the rest of the story and the setups so far (pretty sure Shirazu and Hairu definitely died), I don’t think that’s the meaning behind this. Rather, he’s probably talking about how they don’t really come back as living people. They depend on their medicine and are robbed of their freedom. They’re only living on borrowed time. And well, Ui. This guy has been holding his personal feelings in for so long that he’s now totally loosing it. He lost the most important ppl in his life and even lost his beloved justice when he discovered Furuta’s true face and that he was used as a stepping stone for his evil plans. There’s nothing he can hold on to, nothing he can fight for (or so he thinks) and to keep himself alive he holds on to his past (aka the ppl he’s lost), even if it means selling his soul to the devil. I don’t see a good ending for him tbh…
(Ui and Urie have now joined my list of “characters who are competing with Kaneki for ‘protagonist of a tragedy’“. Congratulations.)
So now, onto the last chunk: Touka and Kaneki. First of all, yes, I loved seeing Kaneki smile (also bc he rarely does) and I know everyone are happy about it and I don’t mean to be a spoilsport, but it kinda felt superficial? The fact that they have finally reached the next base in their relationship did Kaneki good, it did some healing but he’s still far from overcoming his depression. Why do I feel that his smile or even, the happiness was superficial (heck, I really don’t know if this is even the right word, pls excuse my limited english knowledge)? When Touka gave him the ring he gave that super happy smile like there are no worries in the world while putting the necklace on and very naively claims that he’ll always remember her whenever he see the ring. Naive, bc he doesn’t seem to really get the message, meaning and weight behind it at all (afterglow sticks strong with this dork xD). He doesn’t question anything, doesn’t seem to have any deep thoughts about it, he just takes it as it is and is just in his happy mood throughout all the panels there. Kaneki is happy and behaving naive/superficial/ignorant, seeing things through rose-tinted-glasses (its must have been a few days after that night and he’s still a happy pup I can’t xD) Being a little naive is Not necessarily a bad thing though for he’ll have to get serious very soon anyways. but it surely does emphasize that ‘ignoring the problems around them’ theme of last chapter. Well, actually, that’s exactly what unsettles me. I feel like all this happy go lucky will be robbed of him before he can get one of his feet back on the ground…
There’s also this visible contrast between Kaneki’s and Touka’s demeanor. While Kaneki was all smiles and stuff Touka was rather thoughtful. Kaneki is still a little high but Touka is already back to normal. It’s especially visible in that scene where Kaneki boldly said “Whenever I look at this I’ll think of you, Touka-chan.” Touka turned around and didn’t give any sort of answer/comment beside “…” <- This is a sign that she’s actually having many thoughts rn and doesn’t want to say them or doesn’t know how to say them: We know the ring holds great importance to Touka and symbolizes love, parents, past. It’s super interesting and important to mention that her giving this to Kaneki can also be interpreted as her letting go of something she was holding on to. Or well, also passing it on, so someone else (Kaneki) can hold on to it when something happens to her (or also to himself) and he needs strength and comfort. i mean, he literally said something around this line so I’d be surprised if he doesn’t look at this ring and (cries) gains new strength/hold on to it with his dear life when things gets really tragic at some point (aka soon).
What are the reason for Touka to give her parent’s ring to Kaneki? It’s a symbol of love, trust, hope and remembrance and maybe she hopes that in the situations where he can’t get hold of his own life, when he is that lost and desperate, he can still hold on to this and remember that it is one of the reasons still worth struggling for. I wonder, what are her thoughts, what is weighing on her mind rn? Is she already worrying about how he might just disappear again one day. Is she worried that something bad will happen to him. Or herself? They live a dangerous life after all and that has just been proven again when Mutsuki attacked them at :re.
some side notes: The parallels between Hikari/Arata/(Yomo) and Touka/Kaneki/(Ayato) have been present for a long time now and what if, only hypothetically, Touka dies? Will Kaneki be consumed by hatred just like Arata? Is Touka maybe already worried about something like this?
People are freaking out about the deathflags on Touka and I’m just sitting here thinking that there are lots of things that are worse than death and we have seen many examples throughout TG… So no, personally, I don’t see Touka dying. Those are flags, yes, but not exactly ‘death’-flags (I don’t want either for Touka and it’s really scary thinking about what might happen to her in the future… whatever it’ll be though, I’m convinced she won’t die. It’s… just gonna be something worse…)
And everyone’s favorite, the Centipede showed up. There are many possibliities for its interepretation. It’s associated with strength. It appeared when Kaneki was tortured. It has a direct connection to when Kaneki finally got stronger, when he started to seek out strength, when he witnessed losses and hated that feeling of not being able to protect and also when he loses control and when we first learned more about his past. So those are things/themes that we might see again soon enough as Ishida loves playing this parallelism game. So, to sum it up: Tragedy incoming.

Uta is really cool now that I think about it.
So back before I read the Tokyo Ghoul manga, when I had only watched the anime, I would lurk around and I’d occasionally find other people that had only watched the anime that were obsessed with Uta. I’d usually ask them “What’s so interesting about the guy?” and they’d be like “I don’t know; something just tells me he has a history and I’m really urking to find out what it is.” I should tell you right now that if you are that person R E A D T H E M A N G A. I didn’t realize it until now but the Tokyo Ghoul manga is really satisfying for an Uta fan.
I wouldn’t go so far as to say that Uta becomes a main character in the manga; but because the Tokyo Ghoul manga is way longer, we get to see way more Uta and that mysterious history y’all anime Uta fans have been wondering about gets revealed and, trust me, it’s way cooler than whatever you imagined his past is. I don’t really know how to go about describing how cool it is so I’m just gonna go about it in chronological order.
So first we have early Uta. This Uta is from the 90s or 2000s; there’s no specific date but that’s what it’d probably be considering Uta’s age. So the events of Tokyo Ghoul haven’t happened yet is my point. Anyways Uta is dressed edgy as ever but his design has a much angrier tone because he’s a much angrier person. He’s all like “square up bitch I’m super tough.” So he’s a ghoul in one of the more dangerous wards but he’s all kicking everyone’s asses and everything and causes a mess. He’s bein a big dick guy like that for awhile but eventually an equally tough guy called Yomo comes around and is all like “hey dick stop pretending to be Batman. Everyone around these parts knows I’m Batman.” and Uta’s all like “You wanna go tough guy! Fucking fight me bitch.” So they do these really badass fights with each other for a few weeks and eventually they come to mutually respect and how badass they are. Slowly this mutual respect becomes a friendship. Then Yoshimura comes along and he’s like “hey how about you two badasses work at Starbucks it’s like really gay” and Yomo’s all like “I’ll work at Starbucks with you but don’t give me a job where I have to talk to people because people suck because I’m dark and brooding.” and Uta’s like “I won’t work at Starbucks but I understand why you want me to be gay, because I’m causing too much ruckus, so instead I’m gonna make masks to give to ghouls.” So he sets up this mask shop in that peaceful ward and he stops getting on national news. He meets this old lady that was also making masks and she was like “You’re a pussy because you make masks for ghouls but you are a ghoul. I’m a human and make masks for ghouls. That’s because I’m edgy and am willing to take that risk.” And Uta’s all like “whoag that’s pretty edgy mah dude. Hey you wanna help me make better masks?” and she’s like “homies help homies. Yeh niggy.”
Fast forward to when Tokyo Ghoul’s happening. They’re at that Aogori base doing three-way war shit. We find out that Uta’s mask persona is No Face. H E H A S T H E M A G I C A L A B I L I T Y O F S H A P E S H I F T I N G A N D N O O N E K N O W S W H Y. Also, almost like Noro but not quite as powerful, he can get stabbed and shit a whole fucking lot and not die. He’s also a member of the clowns. They’re an organization that has no goal but is also responsible for everything including Kaneki becoming a ghoul. When Kaneki goes white-haired and things get boring again for Uta and the people of Anteiku. So Uta finds this fucking Uta fangirl that dresses edgy like him and has her as a mask apprentice. But he’s always like “no you can’t be my apprentice” to tick her off, because that’s what edgy friends do to each other. Uta’s like “I wanna learn knitting,” and goes to that old lady we saw earlier to learn how to knit masks. She shows him and they hunt down this ghoul family thing for some reason. It turned out that edgy old lady was married to a human cannibal that raised three ghouls. Edgy.
Fast forward to Tokyo Ghoul:re. Since Anteiku is boring and also doesn’t exist. Uta thinks “Hey Roma. You know how you’re a cinnamon roll? Well you’re also a clown ghoul like me so let’s sell people.” Then they start selling people. Haise is all like “sop right now you’re under a breast.” and Uta’s all like “You’ll never take me alive, coppers!” and then he gets stabbed a lot, and the reader almost assumes he died but then the reader remembers he can survive getting stabbed a lot. Sure enough we see him at his mask shop again. Haise gets sent his Kaneki mask and Haise goes up to Uta and is all like “did you make this ghoul mask that is almost but not triggering my memories and shit?” and Uta is all like “yeah, it’s a pretty edgy mask isn’t it?” and then Haise is like “are you using your ghoul eyes right now?” and he’s like “nah I tattooed my eyes wtf you gonna do, disprove that?” and then Haise is like “let’s be best friends. Then Uta goes up to Yomo and he’s like “I’m a ghoul that’s best friends with a CCG investigator, tf you been doin pussy?” Later Haise becomes Kaneki again and Uta joins his goats shit. But he’s still a clown who’s side he’s on is kinda mysterious. Later Kaneki gets the white suits and starts making chaos all across Tokyo. So Uta decides to have fun with it and fight some people. He goes up to Juuzou with his face looking like Shinohara and he’s all like “hey Juuzou I’m Shinohara.” Juuzou is tricked for a moment but then stabs him. Uta runs away and goes to Tooru. Before he can even prank Tooru, Tooru stabs him also. Then he changes into Haise and he’s all like “oof ow why’d you stab me, I’m Haise.” This makes Tooru stab his face into complete mush, but then she gets a huge boner and takes her shirt off and starts ridin him. Despite having his face getting turned into complete mush, he’s still alive. He goes up to Yomo with his broken face and he’s all like “I got laid last night by a CCG investigator tf you been doin?”
So yeah, Uta’s story is pretty damn badass. In the anime, he only made Kaneki’s mask and then there was that scene at the bar and he was all like “hey Yomo, we have a pretty good backstory this anime won’t show, right? hehe.” There’s a lot of characters in Tokyo Ghoul that are like this, where their manga story is way more badass than their anime story. Arima, Furuta, Chuu, Yomo, Koma, Juuzou, really almost every non-main character in Tokyo Ghoul has a badass story in the manga version.
