i think it’s objectively hilarious that he was only there for “about a year” before his parents busted him out. and then he started bragging about surviving azkaban like. love of my life. that was basically just an interesting gap semester that you had 😭

but generally i think it’s pretty straightforward in there? i think the way dementors alienate you from yourself was already pretty familiar to him because of his childhood, and that’s why he bounced back so quickly. his post-azkaban “kept under imperius & under an invisibility cloak” imprisonment is much sadder to me than his actual prison stay

My favorite chapter of Soul Eater is chapter 36—the Giriko vs. Justin fight in Alaska during the Brew Tempest arc.

Justin is drawn well in this chapter. You see a wide range of his expressions including his determination, his seriousness, his smarm, his disgust, his intensity, his vulnerability, and the beginning hints of his madness that Giriko picks up on.

I like the determination in his expression. Justin’s a kid who’s actively fighting and keeping pace with a man hundreds of years his senior. The years of training it must’ve taken him to get to that level and he had to do it entirely by himself. It’s a vicious cycle, really. Justin’s forced to rely on only himself to function, which feeds into his own autonomous pride, thereby pushing others away even more because he deems them below him.

This is the chapter that really made me love Justin. It’s the only chapter where you really get a feeling that Justin Law is an actual human being. Not just a loud, religious ham reduced to his quirks. Not just a tragic, ineffectual villain. We never get to see this side of Justin ever again in the manga. After this, Justin is all sinister expressions and generic evil dialogue, and he kinda maintains a permanently smarmy look while also being nerfed (CUZ HE’S A VILLAIN).

still thinking about that scene where noah finds kid after beating up mosquito and kid throwing liz and patty away so they could be safe. thinking about how liz initially tried to get kid back but then recognized the threat level and understood immediately that she couldn’t do anything without making kid’s sacrifice in vain. thinking about how patty insulted liz because liz wasn’t doing anything and how patty desperately wanted to ignore the dangerous situation just to get their pseudo brother back.

thinking also about the fact liz & patty had to break the news about everything, and how useless patty must have felt snd that’s why she’s training physically harder to be a kind of pseudo-meister. thinking about how liz might have so much guilt over needing to do the necessary thing for her and patty’s survival and how that might have been a reoccurring thing in her past.

Useless Project X Zone fact of the day: There are two characters in the first PXZ game that share names, and they are God Eater's Alisa and Tekken's Alisa.

This tradition continues in Project X Zone 2, where we have Reiji, one of the game's protagonists and an original character in the series, sharing his name with Ace Attorney's Miles Edgeworth...at least in the Japanese version of the game, since Edgeworth is also named Reiji in the Japanese version of the Ace Attorney series.
