Introduction to Affiliate Marketing.
Affiliate Marketing is one of the easiest and fastest ways to make money online. In this Ultimate Guide, I will go with you step by step to help you start today your online business with affiliate marketing and make your first revenue Online.
To be honest with you, I don’t do 6 figures with Affiliate every month, but I do make a good recurring revenue, and what’s more important is that it’s almost 99% passive income!
What do I mean by passive income?
Passive income means that every month, I earn a couple of thousands of dollars without doing anything. so even if I take OFF the whole month, I will still earn almost the same number every month. Nice Haa!
In this article, I will share with you what I do exactly and give you some tips that may help you to start with affiliate marketing, and then I will show how to scale and reach 5–6 figures after a year or so.
What is Affiliate Marketing?
Simply, affiliate marketing is promoting products and services for other people and companies and earning commission per sale.
So, what’s nice is that you will not worry about creating and buying products, you will just promote an existing product. this is why it’s easy to start with. and even you can start with a 0$ budget as you will see later.
So Affiliate marketing is a great choice for anyone who wants to start a business online and make money without investing or even without having that much skills online.
Let’s Start!
Simply, affiliate marketing is based on two things:
Selecting the correct product to promote.
Promoting the product.
It’s that simple, select a product, promote it, earn money!
Let’s start with the first part, which is Selecting the correct product.
1. Select the correct product to promote:
It’s very important to understand and learn how to select the best product or service to promote because simply, with the same effort and time you will make much more money if you select the correct product.
Example: Let’s say you are promoting a service that costs 200$ and your commission is 60% per sale.
You promoted this service and you were able to get like 50 sales each month.
Simple calculations:
50$ * (200*0.6) = 6000$ per month. Nice!
And your advertising costs (In case of running paid Ads) are 3000$. Then you earn 3000$ every Month.
Per Year: 3000$ * 12 month = 40000 $
Great! BUT in this case, you will need to promote every month, pay for advertising every month, effort and Time every month!! Yes?!
NOW, Let’s Tweak the scenario!
We selected a product at the same price: 200$. Your commission is only 40% and not 60%.
But what is different here, is that the product you selected gives recurring commissions, so you will get 40% every month without promoting again and again.
Let’s say now, you promoted this service and you were able to get like 50 sales in a month.
Simple calculations:
For 50 sales per month:
50$ * (200*0.4) = 4000$ / First month
And your advertising costs are 3000$ then you earn only 1000$ for the First Month.
But then, 4000$ for the next months without any advertising or efforts (It’s recurring!) Did You Get It!
So the next months you will earn 4000$ without paying anything!
Per year: 1000$ + ( 4000$ * 11) = 45000 $ with much more less effort and time!
Which scenario you go with??
I think, Obviously, you will go with the second (recurring commission), which will become 90% passive with the same revenue or even more!
This is a small example, of how selecting the correct product (even with lower commission) may be critical in affiliate marketing.
Of course, I am not saying that you should not go with 1-time commission products! NO.
I am just showing the importance of selecting the correct product and how it may reflect on your work!
Small advice: select at least two products to promote, one recurring, and the other is 1-time commission.
Top Affiliate Products And Networks to choose from.
Ok friend, after we knew the importance of selecting the affiliate product, the Big Question now is: “Where can I find affiliate products to start promoting?“
To make things simple for you, I will go over more than 10 Affiliate programs and products that you can join even if you are a total beginner. and I will show you both recurring and single commission products and services.
Single Commission Affiliate Products.
I will share with you know what I think the top 5 affiliate networks that you can start with and find different products to promote.
1. ClickBank: probably you heard about, Clickbank is not a product, it’s an affiliate network where you can find thousands of products to promote.
There is only a small drawback here, that it’s not available in all countries.
2. CJAffiliate: CJ is also one of the largest Affiliate Networks available Online. I do work with CJ, and I promote some Web hosting services like Contabo and Other products.
3. JVZoo: It’s also a large trusted affiliate network with thousands of Affiliate products to start with.
4. Warrior Plus: This Network is Great for beginners, simply because it’s simple to join, and it’s available anywhere worldwide.
by the way, if you like to see in action how you can start with warrior plus and make money online almost from the first week, you can watch my video here:
In this video, I showed an online business strategy that allows you to make money online with no money or investment and you can earn and see results from the first month, or even from the first week!
5. Envato Market: One of my best, and I already work with this network to generate a couple of hundreds of dollars each month (100% Passive)
This company provides digital products and assets like website themes and templates, audio, video templates, source codes, and much more. you can check it here and choose whatever product you want to promote.
here is a sample of my earnings:
Also if you like to see this in action, you can check the following video and see how you can start and how I started and made money from the first month.
[ Case Study 2020 ]
I think this is enough for affiliate networks. Let’s move now to my preferred list of recurring commission affiliate services and products.
Recurring Commission Affiliate Products.
Here is the best part, working with recurring commission products and earning 10X more money per year with the same effort!
1. ClickFunnels: The Clickfunnels affiliate program is one of the most generous commissions for a Service As A Service (SAAS) company. They pay 40% life-time affiliate commissions on all purchases.
They also have something called a “sticky cookie”, which is a bonus to affiliates because if your share your link to a customer it follows them across all of their devices. This keeps people you refer attached to your affiliate account, no matter where they are.
Aside from their software, Clickfunnels also comes up with new products all the time that you can also earn money on such as live events and training courses.
2. SEMRUSH: It’s also an awesome Service to promote with a 40% commission rate, SEMRUSH is an SEO tools company that helps anyone rank their websites and get more free organic traffic. Here is my affiliate dashboard:
3. Tube Buddy: You can earn up to 50% Recurring commission when you refer people to Tube buddy.
Tube Buddy helps content creators, brands, and networks save time and grow their channels. So you can market and advertise it to content creators to help them grow their YouTube Channels.
4. Get Response: One of the Top Email Marketing Services out there, and offers an awesome Affiliate program.
As you can see it offers to programs, one is a single 100$ commission per sale. and the other is 33% recurring commission every month.
What’s nice about Get response and similar services, that it’s hard for users using such platforms to leave it, since all their mailing lists, data, analytics will be saved in the system, so migrating will be somehow a problem.
This is a great thing if you think in terms of recurring commission, so when you refer someone, its like 95% he/she will be a long term customer.
Anyway, almost all products and services have an affiliate network, so you can check whatever product or service you want, contact them, and ask for their affiliate program.
5. SendinBlue: one of my best, only because it allows you to earn per signup! Yes, it pays 5 Euros on each sign up you refer to SendinBlue.
It is also one of the Top Email Marketing Services outthere.
For a full list of affiliate programs and products, please check this post.
Promoting The Affiliate Product.
After we learned what is affilitae programing, and the importance of choosing the correct products to promote, and I showed you some of the best affilitae networks and programs that you can start with. Now it’s time for the real work!
Choosing the product or the service may take like 10 minutes or a maximum of 1–2 days. But what is essential now is How to promote?! It’s all about Marketing.
When it comes to marketing, we have two paths:
Free Advertising.
Paid Advertising.
Free Advertising.
Let’s start with Free promotion, and see how we can promote affiliate products and services for free.
1. SEO: Search Engine Optimization.
SEO is the best way to promote affiliate services and products and to turn this online business into almost 99% Passive Income. why?
Before, I say why, Let’s explain SEO in brief.
What is SEO?
SEO or Search Engine Optimization, is simply a method, or a techinique used to rank your websites and articles on Top of search engines like Google, Bing, and Yahoo.
You know, when people wants something on the internet, they search for it on search engines, and usually people will open results from the first page only.
So your goal with SEO is to make your website rank on the first page for certain search queries. so you can get a lot of free organic traffic to your website.
Let’s take this simple scenario, You wrote an article on your website about an affiliate product, for example, “Top 10 Microphones for YouTubers” and you ranked this article on the first page of Google.
Now you can imagine how much money you will make with the amazon affiliate program promoting “Microphones affiliate links” and getting free traffic from Google, It’s money on autopilot!
Now you may say, Ok Great! But how do we rank our articles? in other words, what the hell is SEO!! and how do we do it!?
Of course, Going through SEO in deep is out of the scope of this article, but at the same time, I will try my best to help you understand how to start and work with SEO in few lines. I will not let you go out of here missing anything!
The Idea is Simple, we mainly have three steps to go through in the process of ranking your articles:
Know what people are searching for (Keyword Research)
Optimize your article for these keywords (On-Page SEO)
Off-Page SEO (Building Trust, Social Signals, and Link Building…)
To Make things Simple, Let’s go with a simple example from my blog here. If you go now to Google and search for: “postal smtp” you will see the following results:
You will see that my article is ranking as the third result on Google after the Ad. and the first two results are the postal owner’s main page. so practically I am the first result here.
so anyone searching for this keyword he will definitely check my website.
So how I did this?
Firstly, I wanted to write an article (full guide) about “setting up postal SMTP and sending unlimited emails“. So I Simply wrote it!
but when I started writing the article, I optimized it on a certail keywords, so you can see in the title the keywords mentioned:
Keywords like “free smtp”, “SMTP server setup”, “Postal” , “Guide”
This is a simple example for On-page optimization, which is mentioning the keywords in the post title which will be the H1 tag on your website for this article.
Then if you read this article, you will see that I mentioned these keywords several times in it, so Google and search engines can know that this article is about this Topic.
You may ask, from where I get these keywords, and How can I know the best to choose? SIMPLE! use a keyword research tool.
You can use free keyword research tools like H-supertools or maybe some advanced SEO tools like SEMRUSH.
So open the H-supertools free keyword research tool and just write the topic you want in the box, and press search. here is an example:
The tool will automatically give you keyword search volume data and help you choose the best keywords.
Then the last step is off-page SEO, which is trying to get some backlinks and social signals to your website. as an example, I link to my blog from my Udemy Courses and my social profiles.
I hope this gives you an idea of how SEO works and how to start with it. Let’s move now to the next strategy in promoting affiliate links which is YouTube!
2. Promote Affiliate with YouTube.
YouTube is one of the best sources to promote anything! not only affiliate services. You create videos about your affiliate product and link back to it.
Now the Big Question is How to Grow Your YouTube Channel and get more views?
In general, there are two ways to grow your channel.
1. YouTube suggestions: where YouTube will start suggesting your videos on the top of other popular videos.
Ex: you pick a trending video or topic and you create a similar High-Quality Video, and optimize the metadata (Title, Thumbnail, Description, and Tags)
2. Video SEO: which is ranking your videos on top of YouTube search results by optimizing your title, and metadata for a specific keyword. you can use tools like Tubebuddy, Vidiq, H-supertools, and others to grow your channel.
My Videos Rank on Top of YouTube for certain keywords.
If you would like to see exactly how do I rank my videos on top of Youtube, You can check the following video:
3. Forums and Q&A Sites.
Search for forums related to your content and help others by sharing what you know and link to your article or page where you are promoting the offer (DON’T SPAM).
Also, don’t forget, Reddit, which is a great place to get free traffic.
Now, In my case, I started my own Forum and this helped me get more traffic by letting people ask questions on my own forum.
Also, Quora Q&A, which is one of the fastest methods to get traffic. It’s by answering questions and linking back to your site.
( I do get thousands of views on Quora every month from my answers. It works)
My Quora Profile
Check this video to see how I to use Quora and get more traffic from it:
5. Social Media
If you have some followers on Facebook, maybe Facebook groups, LinkedIn, Twitter, all these helps you to get traffic, (you can automate posting on all platforms using a social media management software, I do use Content Studio. you can get Lifetime access with this special offer here).
Of course, when I say social media, I don’t mean to spam groups and people, NO, just try to build connections, give value, build trust, and then you can link back to your pages.
6. Free Ebooks and Courses
You can also create small free ebooks and publish on ebooks sites like this to get traffic or even you can publish a free course on Udemy which has millions of students out there and link back to your site. if you are following my Udemy courses, you probably have seen the links I mention in my courses.
7. Email Marketing.
8. Email Marketing, always make sure to build your email lists, which will be one of the top sources of traffic for your websites by sending newsletters to your Subscribers.
Check the video below, to see in action how I send a campagin and get 56% open rate:
Check Also: How I moved from 1K $ to 10K $ 18 Months Case Study
Paid Advertising.
When It comes to paid advertising, we have several networks and places to market on like:
Facebook Ads.
Google Ads
Native Ads
Quora Ads
Going through all these requires a 300-page book each! So I will go over each one, in brief, to put you in the right direction.
Promote Affiliate products with Facebook and Google Ads
If you are looking to promote affiliate products with Facebook or Google Ads, Keep in mind the following:
First: Don’t run ads directly to your affiliate link. Facebook and Google are generally not a huge fan of affiliate links, and doing so too much could end up getting your ad account shut down.
Instead, you want to send them to your landing page in between the Ad and the Affiliate product page.
Secondly: make sure that all of your landing pages are compliant with Facebook and Google GuideLines.
Create Your Landing Page.
Now, what you have to do is to create your landing page. This could be a simple page where you pre-sell whatever it is you’re promoting…whether it’s a piece of pre-launch content or the sales page…and invite them to click through to download it.
Or, even better, you can use this as an opportunity to grow your list by turning these people into subscribers to YOUR list, and then sending them onto the content or offer you are promoting.
Run your Campaign.
A small note to consider is whenever you start your campaign, be sure to select the correct audience and narrow down as much as you can to target specific people. You can also use AD retargeting, which is a great weapon when running paid Ads.
Here is a small video, showing how important is retargeting with a small example:
Also, Don’t forget to start your campaign with low bids and different Ad sets to test, and to know which is the best to scale with.
Promote Affiliate products with Native Ads.
For affiliate marketers, native ad networks like Outbrain, Taboola, Mgid, and others are an ideal platform, proven to bring great results.
Ads on search results (like Google) and social media (Like Facebook) are not the same as ads on native networks. Why?
Simply Because there’s a big difference between scrolling a social feed, searching for something specific on Google, or browsing a favorite news site (where Native ads are shown). With the latter, users are in “discovery mode.”
They are primed to discover content that interests them.
Check out this case study I made like a year ago with Outbrain network promoting my own product and not an affiliate, but I think it will give you an idea on how things work:
Promote Affiliate products with Quora Ads.
Even though, I recommend starting with Quora as a free source of traffic by answering and sharing your knowledge as I explained before. But you can still run paid ads also on Quora.
I created a showrt video showing the power of Quora Ads, you can check it here:
I hope this article gave you all the information that helps you with your online business journey as an affiliate marketer.

Watch the new documentary Fake Famous, it exposes Valery’s sorry ass and the common liars like her. How they scam people by buying followers, likes, comments, fake fan accounts, bots to spread their bs, how they edit and manipulate on the internet, faking to lead a luxury lifestyle to create envy, Kiseleva Kaufman like all these lowlives also uses photoshop, filters, plastic surgery, fake cosmetic enhacements, and her biggest way to fool for gain is pretending about JL, pretending to be with him, pretending wearing his clothes, pretending to be his girlfriend, all fake, online bullshit. These fakers are on their way down their nasty trickery is becoming more and more mainstream.🤢

https://collider.com/fake-famous-review-hbo-documentary/
”A documentary exploring how young people are desperate to be famous and will chase that fame on social media platforms seems ripe for a dark, bleak narrative, and yet director Nick Bilton didn’t really find that in his movie Fake Famous. A technology journalist making his feature debut, Bilton decided to explore what “fame” means in the age of social media, and why so many are coveting that fame when what qualifies as success can be easily manipulated through widely available tools. Through three protagonists, Bilton wryly shows the emptiness of a perfect Instagram life and perhaps provides a worthwhile lesson to wannabe influencers that the Internet fame game isn’t all it’s cracked up to be.
Bilton sets out to create a social experiment. He has a casting call where about 4,000 wannabe famous people show up (mostly people who are model/actors), and he whittles that down to three subjects. There’s Dominique Druckman, who’s an actress working in retail, fashion designer Chris Bailey who also works in retail, and Wylie Heiner, who doesn’t seem to have a personal career goal, but doesn’t really like this current job working as a personal assistant to a real estate developer. Bilton then sets to making each of them “fake famous”, first by buying followers and then by purchasing fake engagement from these bot armies. He also stages photo shoots to give followers (both real and fake) a look at a glamorous lifestyle. Bilton’s hypothesis is that these three people will obtain influencer status, which will in turn yield tangible results like free products and even expensive paid vacations.
My personal hypothesis was that this taste of fame, no matter how artificial, would turn these three regular people into total monsters, and to my great relief, that’s not what happened. Dominique, Chris, and Wylie are basically just people in the early 20s—they want to be famous because they’ve been told that fame is good, and now through their phones they’re getting a constant stream of influencers showing off a lavish lifestyle that’s the result of being “famous” through no accomplishment other than amassing follows, likes, and engagement. All three protagonists seem to be kind of in on the joke, but they also come to three different realizations about the social media economy.
For Bilton, his larger point is how artificial the whole structure is and that there are no incentives to create anything past the artifice. To provide an example of how bizarre this whole endeavor is, Bilton buys bots to increase follows and engagement to create the appearance that his subjects are real influencers. This leads to real rewards like companies wanting to use these influencers to sell their products. But a substantial portion of the followers are bots, and the software meant to call that out is apparently also fraudulent, so there’s no way for companies to know if these influencers are having a real impact in hocking products despite the exorbitant costs wooing these influencers. To put it another way, a company will spend thousands of dollars to ask Dominique to sell some fashion or jewelry, and Dominique will do it and it’s being sold to an audience primarily composed of bots. In some ways, it’s very Black Mirror, but in other ways it’s kind of silly where the real victims are the PR firms and companies so desperate to make a sale that they can’t even distinguish if their potential customers are real or fake anymore.
To Bilton’s credit, he also acknowledges that the influencer culture is not just one thing, and that while it may be built on dubious engagement, there are other times where activists have used the platform to try and effect change. Furthermore, why it’s sad that so many young people want to be famous, there’s a “same as it ever was” element to that desperation. An early chart shows that young people in previous decades wanted to grow up to be pro athletes, but I’m willing to be that a part of that desire was that pro athletes are famous and well paid, and now there’s a way to be famous and well paid without having to be athletic. Yes, there are obvious dead ends here where we have to reckon with self-obsession and the constant need to create a feeling of inadequacy in others to justify our own existence, but Fake Famous wisely sidesteps those questions of existential dread since it would only be a rabbit hole into total despair.
The trick of Fake Famous is that it isn’t trying to bum its audience out, but rather educate them on how there’s really no need to chase Internet fame because it’s simply is not real. While you may be able to squeeze some swag out of it, but to attempt life an influencer is full-time job and one that seems fairly unrewarding if you’re constantly having to promote the fruits of your labor. Hopefully, Fake Famous may serve as a wakeup call to younger viewers by showing that while social media can be fun, once you peek behind the curtain, fame is not only fleeting, but in the 21st century, it can be completely artificial.”
————————————————
https://amp.cnn.com/cnn/2021/02/02/entertainment/fake-famous-review/
“(CNN)"Fake Famous” offers a novel window into the world of influencers, conducting an experiment to see if three young wannabes can be transformed into marketing dynamos. While their tales don’t unfold entirely as planned, the HBO documentary exposes how ripe for manipulation this whole culture is, and the powerful incentives to game the system.
Written, produced and directed by journalist Nick Bilton, “Fake Famous” charts the evolving currency surrounding fame, which once rewarded those renowned for a skill – think actors and athletes – before reality-TV stars became famous for being famous, and finally social-media “stars” celebrated “simply for a number” – that is, their collection of followers.
Bilton begins by interviewing candidates – mostly aspiring actors and models – choosing three to travel the road to fame. The tricks of the trade include buying followers (7,500 for the cool price of $119.60), renting a mansion to stage glamorous photo shoots and style makeovers in order to look like the cool kids.
If that all sounds a bit cynical, that’s really the whole point, given the fraud and fakery built into the “follower” model. Those totals regularly get padded by bots, Bilton explains, “making people appear more popular than they really are.”
As Bloomberg reporter Sarah Frier notes, the whole premise behind influencers hinges on “presenting a lifestyle that people want to mimic.” It’s a marketing approach built on envy, emphasizing perks associated with that to pitch products while allowing the “stars” to cash in on those relationships.
The way people bend that formula to their advantage is an inevitable byproduct of social media, where, as cultural critic Baratunde Thurston puts it, “We’re all making our own movies, and we’re trying to be the star.”
Influencers, however, can elevate those vaguely narcissistic impulses to a different level. Despite the often misleading nature of the images, Bilton points out that it’s in “no one’s best interest” – certainly not those reaping the benefits, including the companies involved – to acknowledge how much of that is manufactured and fabricated.
The main takeaways aren’t just the deception baked into the whole process, but the consumerism at its core – designed not to make people feel better, Bilton suggests, but rather to “make you feel worse” about what you don’t have.
Tellingly, the making of the film overlapped with the outbreak of coronavirus, which actually bolstered the influencer game, creating a ready audience of people with extra time at their fingertips to spent ogling the lives of others.
At a time when the inability to separate fact from fiction has become a dangerous problem for democracy, “Fake Famous” illustrates just how easily those lines are blurred – less for power, in this case, than for fun and profit.
“Fake Famous” premieres Feb. 2 at 9 p.m. ET on HBO"

Mr-entj, I'm a senior in college and starting my career soon which this blog has been an abundance of valuable information. What have you seen in your experience as the biggest jobs hunting MISTAKES college students make at this phase? I would like to learn from those common mistakes if possible because I do treasure wisdom and experience. Thank you.

Job hunting 101
Off the top of my head, top 3 below.
Top 3 job hunting mistakes college students make
1. They think it’s easy
This is how most students think job hunting goes (theory):
I attend college
I do relatively well and graduate with a degree
I submit some job applications to my favorite jobs
I interview
I get a job offer!
This is how job hunting actually is (reality):
I attend college
I do relatively well and graduate with a degree
I submit some job applications to my favorite jobs
I get all rejections or no responses from the jobs
I apply to more jobs
I get no responses
I apply to more jobs
I get no responses
I apply to more jobs
I get maybe 1 interview
I interview but I don’t get the job and have no idea why I didn’t get it
I start to get frustrated and lose hope
I have been unemployed for months post-graduation
I start to panic
I settle for a crap job
WTF happened?
It’s overconfidence mixed with a huge dose of naivete due to a lack of real world experience.
To avoid underestimating this process:
Understand that job hunting is a highly subjective process– it’s not an objective process. That’s why it’s so difficult, it’s like dating. A candidate can have all the qualifications and be a “perfect” fit but can still be rejected because the company didn’t “like” the person or the timing was off or the position was filled or the company knows someone internally who’s a better fit or [insert other rejection reason here]. There are many unknown variables that are invisible to the job applicant. Often times, job applications submitted via websites are rarely seen, interviews are expedited for people with specific connections to the company or skills relevant to the role, schools/majors/grades weed people out immediately, and offers are only extended if the stars align for the candidate. This is why preparation is critical to success.
Understand that job hunting is ultra competitive. There are hundreds, if not thousands, of people applying for the same position and they’re just as smart and just as qualified– if not more. Often times, students think because they academically excelled at their specific university that they’re competitive against a field of graduates from other universities when they’re actually a big fish in a small pond. This is a mistake. Exercise humility, treat every position and organization with respect, don’t assume you’re a special snowflake overachiever, and always assume that you’re the underdog.
Prepare like hell. There are tons of resources on this blog and everywhere on the internet to help craft compelling resumes, make professional/industry connections, improve interview performance, and give huge advantages to people that seek them out. Be proactive.
2. They don’t leverage their network
Pop quiz. What’s the advantage of going to college if you can learn most of this stuff on the internet? Why are you paying $XX,000 thousands of dollars per year for an education if Google, free visits to the library, and discount books online can relay the same information? Why?
Answer: The main advantages of a formal education from a reputable university are that it establishes external credibility, grants an academic cohort that eventually becomes a professional network, and provides career resources.
Advantages are only advantages if you actually use them.
To leverage a network:
Attend career campus events. Colleges work around the clock to get companies to come on campus and hire their graduates– do not miss these events. Polish your resume, dust off your suit, and come with your best smile to explore opportunities and meet students.
Visit the university career center. There are people employed and paid solely for the purpose of getting you a job. Any company or alum looking to hire a graduate from your school will go through the university career center so staying close to the staff here will get you first pick.
Use the university job board. These are positions usually offered by alums in other companies that are exclusive to your school. This gives you first pick of positions that may or may not be live on other job websites.
Network with alumni. Get a professional mentor, reach out on LinkedIn, volunteer at alumni events. Alums are former students who have been in your exact position so they understand the struggle. Any alum who commits time and energy into attending an alumni event usually has school pride and wants to give back. Engage them.
Join on-campus professional groups. Professional frats, affinity groups, study groups, etc. Shared interests = shared bonds = relationship building.
3. They start too late
I’m going to repeat this over and over until people get it: the most difficult time to get a job is straight out of college when you have little to no relevant work experience that separates you from a sea of candidates. For this reason, do not procrastinate.
Remember that employers want to minimize the risk of hiring the wrong person and maximize the chance of hiring the correct person which is why college graduates have a tougher time entering the job market than experienced professionals who have projects, references, and bodies of work (empirical evidence) to vouch for their abilities. Once a college graduate accumulates years of experience this problem goes away but until then they need to be proactive in searching for opportunities while in school. It’s imperative that students start job hunting, internships, and recruiting activities before they graduate college to avoid missing critical deadlines only available to them as students.
It’s exponentially more difficult to find a job after graduation because all the desirable positions will have already been filled. One of two things tend to happen to people who don’t recruit well during college and who graduate without a job:
They’ll scramble for low-level positions they’re overqualified for that don’t require a college degree, that are lower paying, but more difficult to get because of the larger applicant pool
They’ll apply for positions for experienced professionals that they’re underqualified for because the new grad entry-level positions are already gone but they also have no substantive work experience for these experienced positions
This is a form of professional purgatory where they’re neither here nor there; a college graduate overqualified for menial jobs but also underqualified for entry-level jobs that require 1-2 years of experience. This is not a good position to be in; do not be in this position. Career procrastination and the failure to recruit properly during college will create something called career debt because bad job placement post-graduation will set a career back years especially in pursuit of leadership positions.
To get a head start on job hunting:
Have meaningful internships throughout your college career. Graduating without an internship is not a good look. It basically tells the world that you didn’t do anything outside of the classroom; no exposure to the professional world, no extra effort into researching your career, and no additional parties to vouch for your work. This means that in a crowd of graduating students, nothing differentiates you from the herd. Search online for internships, there are tons of resources for this and most companies will post internships directly on their career pages:
Indeed
Glassdoor
LinkedIn
Apple internships
Amazon internships
Start job hunting 6-9 months before graduation. There are positions aimed specifically for new grads and they’re marked with (wait for it) “NEW GRAD” in the job title. They’re hard to miss. These positions are specifically for college students without any work experience but they have strict deadlines and cut-off dates that shouldn’t be missed. Examples of those are below.
Deloitte New Grad Portal
PwC New Grad
Google Students
Facebook New Grad
JP Morgan New Grad
Kaiser Permanente Early Career
CNBC Early Career Opportunities

Political Views (From a regular guy in America)
Hey folks! I know some of us don’t like talking about politics on here, but I thought I’d share my thoughts on a few political topics in the spirit of you guys learning to get to know me. So, without further ado, here we go!
What are your thoughts on Racism in our country? I think Racism is by far the DUMBEST social construct we’ve made. There’s literally zero amount of difference between two different people of two different skin pigmentations and ethnic backgrounds. I believe Racism should be abolished in this country and I think both Nazis and White Supremacists should have to register as a “Public Offender” like sex offenders have to. Why? I can’t begin to tell you how many pictures I’ve seen of hundreds of thousands of different people being murdered in cold blood - all for the sake of saying that a stupid ideology should be the law of the land. In the almost 243 years our country has been in existence, the issue of Racism still plagues us to this day. I think that’s beyond ridiculous. What are your thoughts on Women’s rights and Feminism? This is a very similar problem when it comes to the Racism subject. The only difference is that it’s Sex and Gender Elitism instead of Racial Supremacy. To think that one sex is better than the other (ie Men are superior to Women, vice versa) is foolish and is a dangerous thought process. That kind of thinking has led to the great social division that hinders our country today. Women deserve equal pay for equal jobs and equal hours. Women deserve equality in the hiring process for ANY job or career they wish to pursue. Women deserve paid maternity leave, and it should be illegal for ANY company to fire them while they’re on said maternity leave. And last but certainly not least, WOMEN DESERVE THE RIGHT TO ABORTIONS. PERIOD.
What are your thoughts on Immigration? I think Immigration is what’s built our country today. It’s safe to say that 90% of people who currently live in the US can trace their lineage to somewhere outside of the US. Immigrants should be welcomed with open arms, not concrete walls, chain link fences, barb wire and assault rifles. If anyone comes to our country as an immigrant and wishes to help make our country a better place, I say we should let them. We should help them to find jobs and affordable housing, good education for their children, and ultimately a good life for them to live within our country. We should give immigrants the same treatment we give to ourselves, because really, they’ve become one of us. What are your thoughts on Religion in our country? I don’t believe that any one religion is better than the other and I fully believe in Separation of Church & State. Politics are NOT the proper place for your own personal beliefs, and Religion is NOT the proper place for your own personal agenda. I’ll scream that from the rooftops, if I have to. Politics should be a place of non-biased people with the goal in mind to work together to make our country better. No one religion should get special treatment, and no one of different religious beliefs should be discriminated against. Enough said.
What are your thoughts on Gun Rights & Gun Control? I fully believe in the second amendment right for American Citizens to own and possess firearms. THAT SAID! I also believe in reason, perhaps more so than I do in the second amendment. Former felons shouldn’t have the right to possess or own firearms (unless they go through a rigorous rehabilitation and reconciliation course designed to help and reintegrate former felons back into society). I believe sex offenders and the “public offenders” that I mentioned above should also not have the right to possess firearms. I believe that Americans should NEVER possess weapons that can be considered “tactical.” Tactical weapons belong in the hands of those qualified to operate that kind of equipment in tactical situations (ie SWAT, Police, Military forces, FBI, Secret Service). I think there should be “switch” program where Americans can trade in their tactical weapons to the Federal Government for similar, non-tactical versions of that weapon OR for cash reimbursement. I also think that Firearm owning age should be 21, the same age as drinking.
What are your thoughts on LGBTQIA+ community and their rights? I think they’re just as much human and deserving of the same rights as we are. What, just because somebody isn’t straight or they don’t view themselves within the confines on gender or sex that makes them less than human? The LGBTQIA+ community, and anyone who falls into that category, should have the rights of equal employment, equal hours, equal pay, equal rights, equal abilities to marry, equal rights to medical operations, equal ability to adopt, and equal treatment. Period, end of discussion. What are your thoughts on Stem Cell Research and Possible Cloning? I believe in the medical benefits of Stem Cell Research and how it could vastly improve the lives of many Americans who are suffering without it. I think that Stem Cell Research should not only be made legal, but also that it should receive government funding and that access to Stem Cell therapy should be made open to the common folk. In regards to the Cloning issue, I don’t believe that full-fledged, human cloning should be legal. HAVING SAID THAT: I do, however, believe in the medical benefits of partial human cloning in regards to damaged limbs and organs, and that such treatment and therapy should be available for the general public.
What are your thoughts on political parties? Political parties have their uses, but I don’t think they should have nearly the full endorsement they have today. Political parties and those affiliated with them should be kept at an arm’s length away from American Politics, in a sense. What a person identifies in regards to political parties shouldn’t be as important as what they want to do in order to benefit this country and how they wish to do so. Political parties shouldn’t receive federal funding, as they should be funded by independent sources. Not only that, people who wish to run for an elected office need to pass a written and a multiple choice test in order to prove that they have the proper knowledge and critical thinking skills needed in order to properly lead in the position they wish to be elected for.
What are your thoughts on education? I believe that every American deserves to have quality education from schools in which they attend. I also believe the whole “let's make our students pay thousands of dollars in order for them to take a nose dive into debt and then we won't hire them because they got a degree in something we don't like” is BS. We can't take credit in degrees in this country anymore because it's no longer about how hard you work, but rather, how much did you pay to get the degree? While free college may not be realistic in this country (unfortunately) I do think we should greatly lower the cost of a higher education. Any university you go to should only cost two times of what city or community college costs. That way, instead of driving ourselves into a debt that we can't pay, we can pay off a more reasonable amount and we wouldn't be in the same debt we’re in today.
What are your thoughts on Medical care in this country? Okay, this is a no brainer. Medical care should be free for all Americans. And this, I think, is and should be possible. One of the biggest medical insurers in our country is freaking GoFundMe.Com. (Are you kidding me?) I mean, what more do I need to say? Our medical care system is a joke. They're only interested in squeezing every last dime out of the American people while they're on their way to death. Meanwhile, other countries are living healthy and beautifully. We need a serious overhaul on the medical care system as a whole, and one that mutually benefits the American people.
What are your thoughts on the Drug and Homeless crisis within many cities in our country? Homeless people are still PEOPLE. People addicted to drugs are still PEOPLE. As such, they need our help. They need our help to become better people, or to find a home and a job. They need us to help them to get back on their feet, even if they won't openly admit it. There should be a social program that helps to rehabilitate, house, and educate drug abusers and homeless people. It'll help them to get a diploma or a GED, and it'll help them to find jobs and affordable housing within our country.
What are your thoughts on the prison system? We of our biggest problems is the number of incarcerated people per capita. There is a vast amount of people serving hard time in prison for crimes that shouldn't require them to. A shoplifters shouldn't spend the same time that a man convicted of grand arson should. People convicted of lesser crimes should have a choice of either going into a social program similar to that of the Drug and Homeless rehabilitation program or they could join the military to serve for their time in there and to be released on a simple discharge basis.
What are your thoughts on the Environment? The Earth is our home, whether we wish to recognize that or not. Therefore, we need to treat our home with respect and begin to undo the extensive damage that the Human race has brought onto our planet. We should have a similar trade in system as we should have for tactical weapons, only for the environment we should do so with cars instead of guns. Fossil fuel usage should ultimately be banned within a 5 year plan that will allow Americans to trade in their petrolium-powered cars for green energy vehicles. We can either reimburse them for their cars OR we can give them new green cars in exchange for their old ones. Every single building in the US should be either ran off of solar, wind, or hydroelectricity. Every time we cut down a tree, two more should be planted in its place. Old properties should be buldozed to the ground and made into “green parks,” or places where we can plant trees and flowers to make various communities greener. Any energy source that’s dangerous for our planet should be banned.
What are your thoughts on Foreign Policy? We need to work together in order to not only make our country to be better, but to also make our world a better place. We need to focus on COOPERATION, rather than competition. Competing is for sports; Cooperating is for everything else. The US should be one of the leading example of cooperation and leadership within the world. We should work together to feed some of the less fortunate countries. We should grant independence to our overseas territories that wish to be independent, and we should help to establish their governments and economies to be successful. The former thought of the US being “the best country” is a complete and total lie and we need to get that thought out of our heads. We need to recognize that there are other countries that are better in a lot of other aspects than we are.
What are your thoughts on the Military within our country? Our soldiers are cherished in our country, and rightfully so. They fight hard and give up their lives so that we can live comfortable lives. But sometimes, they are the unintentional pawns in a geopolitical game by self-ran politicians within their own agendas. I can’t tell you how many times I see homeless veterans rolling around a run-down wheelchair with only one leg. There are quite literally thousands of former soldiers within our system that are homeless and are in need of help. We should have a system designed to help our veterans to find jobs immediately after they’re released from the military. We spend more money on our military than the next 26 nations COMBINED, so the way we treat our veterans is not only wrong - it’s atrocious.
What are your thoughts about the economy? Capitalism is said to be one of the leading reasons why the health of our Earth is declining. We focus more on a “every man for himself” kind of ideology when it comes to our economy. We take all the money we can get from the people, and we play game of corperate juggernaut against other companies. This drives prices through the roof, which makes many Americans angry. On top of that, you add in taxes and fees of all sorts and what was once a gallon of milk for $2.50 just jumped up to almost 4 bucks. This doesn’t just affect the costs of grocery, either. Gas prices, textile costs, medicine and medical items - you name it! All of it is charged at ridiculous prices all because the companies at the helm of this economic fashion are money hungry and want to squeeze every last dime out of the American people. To top it all off, the American dollar isn’t worth nearly as much as it used to be, so we keep having to print out more and more. Which lowers the amount even more, and this contributes to a broken system. We need a serious overhaul of how our economy is going to work, and how we can make it fairer for both small companies AND for the American people as a whole.
What are your thoughts about the Social programs we have today? I believe that their intentions are great and the basic idea behind them is good, but they need to be overhauled and reevaluated. There are people who genuinely need financial help (be it for health, domestic, or whatever the reason may be. Medical care should be universal and free. If Americans fall under the poverty line, they should be entitled to some kind of federal help per month that aleviates the cost of their basic necessities. We need to help our country’s poor to have a better chance at succeeding in life. However, we can’t just give out free money and not expect for some people to abuse that financial help. Along with a stronger system of Social Services, we need a system of accountability for each and every case they take on. This kind of overhaul will mutually benefit both the destitute and the more well-off in our society.
Look, these are just my opinions. You don’t have to agree with them. But as someone who’s been a witness to this America, I’ve thought long and hard about what should change within our country. If you don’t agree with me, or if I offended any of you for saying this, then I’m sorry but this is how I feel about it. If you don’t like it, you’re welcome to block me or unfollow me at any time. Thank you all for your time.

On career plans.
Going back to school seems... surprisingly feasible?
At my hospital, weekend track means -- two twelve-hour shifts a week, but you can get benefits. I am ridiculously frugal and my job pays pretty well; I can live on twenty-four hours a week.
(Right now I am working... substantially more than that. And living on about what I’d make in twenty-four hours/week, and saving about $1k/month.)
So. Nursing school is potentially a thing. I am looking into completing my bachelor’s through some shitty online program so that I can work full-time (overtime!) while finishing school. After that, I can apply to a one-year accelerated RN program. My current job makes me a pretty strong candidate! I interpret heart rhythms for a living. I am good at this. My coworkers apparently are surprised that I haven’t worked in cardiac telemetry before -- I’m smart, I learn skills quickly, it’s useful. And nursing schools tend to want people who already have specialized skills like “knowing when your patient is having a lethal arrhythmia.”
School is... not as time-consuming for me as it is for other people? Generally I just attend lectures and write things down and then the knowledge is in my brain indefinitely. Studying is nice but not especially mandatory. The accelerated RN program is Monday through Friday, 0800--1500. I can do homework and some studying in the evenings, work on the weekends.
My hospital would pay a few thousand dollars a semester if I make a commitment to work for them. This is potentially useful! But also I want to work in the ICU and my hospital does not actually hire new nurses directly into critical care units. The other local hospital does! This would be awesome.
And the other local hospital’s critical care units also are feeders for CRNA programs. That’s... enticing. CRNAs -- nurse anesthetists -- make absolute fucktons of money, guys! Real earning-to-give hours. All the similarly lucrative careers I’ve been able to identify would be absolutely mind-numbing for me. I am not confident that I can even do programming at the CRNA-salary level and also I would be miserable. I am not quantitative-smart to the level that the standard EA EtG professions expect (well, or I can’t self-study at that level).
But CRNAs can make like $200k in areas with a reasonable cost of living, and that’s a very cool healthcare profession, and it’s not four years of horrible school plus horrible low-paid internship/residency like the MD route (...not as selective, either), and a lot of people get their school entirely paid for by their hospital, and anyway I can live on $15k/year and pay off all my loans ASAP. So I might end up in grad school after all. I think I want more a dynamic job right now, and ICU nursing -- which generally is required for CRNA programs -- will be way more exciting and unstable and eustressful. I need this! I am young and smart and ADHD and somewhat allergic to routine.
...And ICU nursing would be exhausting after a while, I know. It would be fun and amazing and satisfying but burnout rates are really high. Having an out would be good. (Every CRNA I know just absolutely loves their job! Including the friend who encouraged me to look into this route, who is somehow substantially more ADHD than I am, and... if sitting in the OR while your patient is under is not understimulating for him, I am a lot less concerned about me. He has told me Having responsibility for someone’s life makes it easy to focus. I think this probably is true for me as well.)
I can do this! I am going to be an extremely skilled and badass ICU nurse in a few years, and quite possibly by the time I’m 30 I’ll be either in a CRNA program or done with one.

It's Great To Learn About Real Estate Investing
Stay with categories in which you are comfortable. If you find a market that you like, it can actually help you become successful. Going with what you know will increase your odds for success. Visit https://www.weboga.com/detail/3613/sell-my-house-fast-dallas-fort-worth.html
Know that you'll be spending more than the initial home price. These costs include legal fees, staging costs, closing costs and much, much more. As you go through margins, make sure you consider every potential cost and include them on the line item list.
When considering retail or industrial investment properties, remember two guidelines. First, don't pay too much for the land. Do not pay too much for the business itself. Use an independent inspector to come in and value the property, and have that person tell you what is expected in any type of rental. If the numbers are good, then it's a good buy.
Don't spend your money on real estate with doing the research first. A mistake in this field can cost you thousands of dollars. Making sure you are properly trained is the best idea in order to keep your investments protected.
Make sure you can recoup the money you invested in a property, plus an additional profit. This is to ensure that you get paid for the time and effort you put into the property. So do the work as cheaply as you can and then list it at a profit.
Never go into an investment with the all-in mentality as you will need a financial cushion in the bank when things go awry. Investing in real estate means that you won't be able to access a lot of money for a while, and the returns can stretch for many years. Don't let this situation destroy your ability to live from one day to the next.
Be sure to keep excellent books. Many investors do not think to keep good records when they first start out. There will be quite a number of things you already are having to worry about. But top accounting practices are critical. Get your bookkeeping skills up to par to save yourself trouble later.
Make certain to have the property inspected before purchase and plan on investing money into those repairs. The repairs will have to be done before the property is sold. If you plan to rent it out, set aside a maintenance budget, as well. This extra cash will help you to understand what your profit margins will actually be.
Be sure to familiarize yourself with local rules and regulations before investing. These different legalities are going to vary from city to city so you should know what to expect ahead of time. Talk to local public officials to ensure you stay within the law before you sign any contracts.
Regardless of whether a property is undervalued or overvalued, don't put in an offer on it. Large initial investments usually mean very low profits. If you buy too cheap, you'll just lose money trying to fix it. The smart move is to find mid-priced properties that are neither fancy nor dilapidated.
If you have time to hold properties for some time before you resell them, target purchasing homes in areas with lots of foreclosures. Eventually, these areas will get better and you'll make a big profit. Remember that it may be a while before you cash in to retrieve your profits.
Avoid spending a lot of time on any deal. It's not really a "deal" if it takes up too much time. You should use this as motivation to get out there and seek other deals, because relying on only one investment can cost you a lot of money.

“He’s my scapegoat, his mom said I could”
if you read all of these, i hope you were amused. i certainly was. all of these are completely real. if you feel like it, send me an ask with your favorites

Going From Teacher To Buisness Owner (with Ed Dudley, Jake Whiddon & Peter Liu)
Tumblr media
Have you ever thought about starting your own school, start-up or just going freelance? As the educational landscape changes due to Covid, branching out on your own is becoming a necessity for many teachers. This week I speak with three people who have gone from being teachers to becoming their own bosses. Peter Liu tells us how he got the inspiration for his online education company, Jake Whiddon tells us why he founded his own school after fifteen years of working for other people and Ed Dudley tells us what kind of people should avoid going freelance.

Going From Teacher To Buisness Owner (with Ed Dudley, Jake Whiddon & Peter Liu)
Peter Liu from Owl ABC on starting a start-up
Ross:  Peter, you started your own business a year and a half ago. Before you tell us about what it is, what made you want to start your own company?
Peter Liu:  My current co‑founder and I, we've been good friends for several years. He's also in education. He's got 15 some odd years of experience. We saw this trend of thousands of Chinese kids going abroad to study.
There was a study done several years back that showed 25 percent of Chinese students going to an Ivy League school fail, 25 percent. When I read that statistic, that blew my mind.
There's a gap in skills that Chinese students have, who are attending school abroad. There are tons and tons of services that help kids in China improve their English. They can help with their test‑taking of the IELs and the TOEFL. It only ever seems to go as far as your first day of university so you can get into school.
How do you actually stay in and succeed? I've been working at this education technology startup. We built a whole bunch of fancy tech. I worked very closely with the product and the engineering teams. I had a little bit of experience building an online product.
Ross:  This is almost like working in a startup prepared you to start your own startup?
Peter:  Yeah, you could say that.
Ross:  Did that take some of the fear out of it, as well?
Peter:  It's that and also our product is not technically that challenging. We're not building a technology company. We're building a services company.
Ross:  How has what your company does changed from what you originally visioned, compared with now?
Peter:  The biggest change was our business model. Originally, we were focused on a B2C model, basically, selling our services and our content directly to consumers. We quickly found that we don't have the local knowledge of how to message, how to create marketing channels to reach these consumers.
We made the decision to shift our focus to B2B, licensing our content and our teaching to other education companies so that they could do the heavy lifting of marketing directly to their students. They already have students who are, perhaps, learning English from them, but who need to build their critical thinking skills. That's where we come in.
Ross:  Can I ask you a question about money and stuff? Let me give you an analogy here. I remember once climbing a mountain. When you're climbing a high mountain, it's a little bit dangerous. You have a turnaround time. If we don't get to the top by four o'clock, we're going to turn around. Because if we're walking down in the dark, it's really, really dangerous.
Do you have that with the business where you're like, "If we're not starting to make money, or if we're not able to break even within 12 months or two years, then I'm going to quit this and go back to teaching English." How does that work?
Peter:  It depends what scale company you're doing, and also how disciplined you are with finances.
[laughter]
Peter:  Basically, how much money do you have in the bank, and how long can that sustain you? What is your burn rate? How much money are you spending?
Ross:  Cool. Can I ask you then what would you say if there's one thing I really wish I knew or I paid more attention to when I first started this, I should have done this. What do you think that would be?
Peter:  I'm a big proponent of the lean startup methodology which is, basically, applying the scientific method to operating a business. You form a hypothesis. You run tests to either validate or invalidate that hypothesis. Then you either proceed if you validate your hypothesis or you change course.
I wish we'd applied that methodology a little bit more rigorously to the early stages of our product development, because of the business environment that we're operating in. We were very cautious in marketing, and putting ourselves out there, and putting our product out there.
Ross:  In case someone stole the idea.
Peter:  Precisely.
Jake Whiddon on starting your own school
Ross:  Hi, Jake.
Jake Whiddon:  Hi, Ross.
Ross:  You started your own kids' school recently. You've been involved in TOEFL for about 15 years. What made you want to open your own school now at this point in your career?
Jake:  Honestly, I felt that I had worked for long enough for big companies. I wanted to have some control over the output of what I was doing. I felt I reached, not a ceiling, but a point where there was nowhere else I could go with what I personally wanted to do with education. That's the reason.
Ross:  Jake, how did you choose the people to go into business with? There's so many people you know, but why did you choose the people who work with you now?
Jake:  It's really interesting. For a long time, I'd always wanted to start a business with another one of your ex‑guests called Dave Welleble. I realized that we were too similar. We were very similar. What I had to do was find someone who could complement my skills. I've got some skills that come up with creative ideas in trying to have operations experience.
I needed someone who knew how to network, do finances, work with people, and communicate better, and then that person came along. It's someone I'd worked with 10 years ago, and they just came out of the blue and said, "Hey, by the way, I'm actually looking for someone who can work together."
I think the best decision was finding someone who I knew well but can complement the way they work. That old adage of never work with your friends, I don't think that that's true. I think that you should work with your friends.
A point a friend was making to me the other day was, I met this person through working with him, not through being a friend. I knew I could work with him. I think that's worked really, really well.
Ross:  How did you go about getting an investor then, because, obviously, opening a school requires a lot of funds?
Jake:  You don't find people to invest in your school, they find you. There's a lot of people in China with a lot of money that they don't know how to spend. They need to spend it on something, whether it's a gym or a hairdresser, or something they want to do. For us, it was someone who knew they wanted to do something in education, but they didn't know how to.
They came to us and said, "Can you guys do something with education for us?" Which is what I find most people say. On saying that, though, people are still looking for investors.
The way it happens in China is you're just constantly networking. You never know why the person that you're talking to might be the person who can invest money in you one day. That's something to remember.
Ross:  What skills do you think you've learned in other parts of your career that helped you the most in running your own school?
Jake:  Well, none. No, I want to say none. No, I say that as a joke. It's amazing how little I knew. I mean, I ran five, four different schools as a [inaudible 08:20. I ran 12 schools as a regional manager. I ran 40 schools as a national manager. I controlled budgets of two million dollars. You know what? A lot of those skills didn't help me at all.
What they helped me with was operations. They helped me with efficiency. They helped me with things, like knowing that you're using classrooms at the right efficiency. You're using teachers at the right amount. You're utilizing people in the right way.
It didn't teach me how to run a business. With all the experience in the world, I have learned more in the last eight months of how much I didn't know.
Ross:  What have you had to learn when your started your business? Is there anything that you've never experienced before, or something that you felt, "Oh, this is something brand new to me, and I have to start learning"?
Jake:  I'm learning that without a big budget for marketing, for example, we can't go and afford a math/science and blanket. You have to think everything we're thinking. We have to flip it over and think about it from the bottom up. That's probably the first one. The other one is people don't want to work for a company that no one's heard of.
People want to work for big name companies. Who wants to work for a place that has only one school? Lastly is how much relationships matter. The relationship you have obviously with the customer but also mainly with everyone around you, everyone. The Fire Department, the Visa Office, everyone you have to have a relationship with.
You're constantly having to deal with each of these people. We talk about bureaucracy, but bureaucracy might be a good thing because, at least, it means there's some bureaucratic process. Here, it all comes back to relationships.
Ross:  Finally, Jake. What advice do you have for teachers thinking about starting their own school?
Jake:  Remember, that's my last advice. The industry is never as caught up as you are. Whatever you're thinking, the market is probably two steps behind you. The market needs to be educated to get to where you are first.
Ross:  Thanks, Jake. Bye‑bye.
Jake:  Bye, Ross.
 Ed Dudley on going freelance
Ross:  Ed, you obviously started off as a teacher teaching full‑time. Do you want to tell us about how did you go from teaching full‑time to becoming now a freelance teacher trainer and author?
Ed Dudley:  You're right. I began teaching full‑time. Then very gradually, I began to be invited to speak at local conferences and to do, perhaps, weekend events for teachers in the local area. Then gradually I was invited to do more work, which involved going to another country for a few days to do some teacher training. I would balance that with my school work.
I would rearrange my classes, or I would get colleagues to cover my classes in my absence, which was, again, a difficult balancing act. There was no masterplan there for me. I simply did it slowly and incrementally over time. The amount of teaching that I was doing gradually reduced. The amount of training and materials writing that I was doing gradually increased.
Ross:  There are a lot of teachers considering becoming a freelancer. Are there any tips or recommendation for this group of people?
Ed:  It has the potential to cause sleepless nights if you're going to suddenly do it cold turkey. I was in a position where I could try out freelance work, freelance life with a safety net. I tend to have the philosophy that if you focus on doing a good job on what's in front of you, then that will lead to good things in the future.
I've always remembered that it's important to be aware of what your strengths are. If I'm asked or invited to do something that I don't think is aligned with my strengths, then I say "no" to that. It can be tough when you're a freelancer to say "no" to something.
There's a lot of pressure on us to take every opportunity that comes our way. It is important not to bite off more than we can chew as well, and to make sure we do a good job by saying "yes" to the things that we're confident we can do well, and "no" to the things that we don't think we can do well.
Ross:  What do you think are the advantages of the freelance life?
Ed:  The key advantages, that if you have the mentality or you have the personality that can deal with the uncertainties of the freelance life.
In other words, if you're not too freaked out by the fact that you're not quite sure what's going to be happening 12 months from now, then that gives you an awful amount of freedom. It gives you a chance to focus on your own professional development.
I find that I'm able to do a lot more reading. I'm able to find time to plan my work with much more freedom and less frazzledness than when I was balancing my training work with my full‑time job. It gives you a chance also to make last minute decisions as well.
Very often, you'll find that an opportunity comes up at very short notice to travel somewhere and do some work. You have this really exciting opportunity to go somewhere you've never been before, to work with people you've never met before. That's an incredibly stimulating and enjoyable way to work.

It Is What You Know: Education
Tumblr media
It Is What You Know f you only read one chapter in this book, read this one. It is critical. I’ve referenced ‘being prepared for this journey’. Education is the vital aspect of preparation because it involves the development of your mind, your most prized possession in this world.
The importance of an education cannot be overstated. Education may be the key, fundamental experience that enables you to elevate and transform your life. It matters not what your skin color is, what religion you practice, how old you are, or where you live in the world—the effects of education are universal.
Education is your way up. It is your way out. It is your weapon. It is your shield. It is your light. It is your fire. Get it and use it. Education is yours forever. Once you have it, it can never be taken away.
Education may be described as the process by which you are introduced to new information and ideas through experience and instruction. It is also the manner in which you understand and apply new knowledge. When we refer to ‘education’ in this book, we will most often refer to the formal, structured system of classroom education that takes place in schools and universities. Education is often provided by teachers in a classroom. Learning is what you do for yourself throughout your lifetime.
In the United States, education is often taken for granted because of the easy access to public schools. However, in less developed regions around the world, parents work long hours in horrendous conditions doing miserable jobs in order to scrape together the money to send their children to school. They do this in India, where many families live on sixty dollars a week. Think about that. They do this in China, where a multigenerational family of six may be living in a two bedroom apartment. Think about that. They do this in Africa, where children study by kerosene lamps at night, after working all day. Think about that.
They do this because they often live in a world of crushing poverty that can be deadly. The difference between starvation and a living wage is often the margin between ignorance and education: the acquisition of basic skills and applied knowledge. The skills and knowledge that lift people out of poverty and into the middle class are almost always developed through education. The fact that people most hard-pressed to survive prioritize education should tell you something about its importance.
To fully appreciate the value of an education today—and where it can take you tomorrow—it might be good to remember where women were in the not too distant past. Throughout history, men have been able to maintain power over women because women have not been able to be self-sufficient. Generations of women have been denied an education, treated like property, unable to own property, excluded from financial decisions, and generally oppressed and cloistered by ‘men-made’ traditions.
Women have lived with legislation they did not help draft and that they did not vote into law. They have been marginalized, silenced, and relegated to being the bearer of children and performer of household chores, an object of beauty and a source of pleasure, and put on a pedestal that soon resembles a cage.
Women have had to fight and fight hard to be able to vote, to be allowed to attend schools, to work outside the home and in decent conditions, to be paid a fair (but rarely equal) wage, and to be in sole possession of their own fortunes, personal and financial.
What we call the modern world is, for you as a woman, largely a product of that fight. It is a fight that is not completely won, but society is a much-improved place. In the United States, many of the obstacles that faced previous generations of women are gone. In other countries, the rights and privileges of women still vary considerably. Wherever you live, know that today, at this moment, so much is yours for the taking.
It is imperative that you discover, embrace, and honor the past work of heroic women by making the most of your life. It is imperative that you get an education, first and foremost. Don’t squander this gift.
Remember this: the scariest thing in the world for some men is a woman with her own mind and her own money. That’s exactly what you want to be. Education is the quickest way to get, and keep, both.
WALL STREET OR MAIN STREET—THE BIG BENEFITS OF EDUCATION
Whether you’re going to work at a brokerage firm on Wall Street or a hardware store on Main Street, an education is going to serve you well throughout your life. So, if there’s any way possible, take the opportunity to be a student if you can, when you can, where you can.
Wouldn’t your life be richer if you exposed yourself to just a small part of the knowledge that has been articulated, preserved, and handed down over the past few thousand years? Consider and digest the wisdom of the ages. Marvel at the latest technological developments, innovations, and inventions that so often burst forth on college campuses. How could you change your life and world if you had the chance to build your skill set for employment and entrepreneurial opportunities? How might you enhance your understanding of current events if you had the chance to learn about history from a different, more nuanced perspective?
Study the mechanics of politics and money in order to make sure you aren’t manipulated or victimized. Expand your mind. Deepen your understanding. Broaden your horizons.
Take advantage of what I call the Big Benefits of Education.
Big Benefit Number 1: Knowledge for Its Own Sake. This enriches your life as you explore math, science, literature, art, politics, and history. You may not be an actor, but reading and appreciating Shakespeare or contemplating Rumi will deepen your understanding of the world.
Big Benefit Number 2: Better Quality of Life. (Notice I didn’t say ‘standard of living’.) Quality of life requires a sufficient income to meet your material needs, but also includes an understanding of how best to manage your career, business and investment opportunities, personal life, financial assets, and leisure. You can make a great deal of money, but without an education to learn how to manage and enjoy your wealth, you may have a very low quality of life.
Big Benefit Number 3: Maximizing Opportunities. Give yourself the ability to identify and act upon opportunities to make this world a better place to live, for you and other people, for generations to come. This means volunteering, giving to charity, or going into public service. If you don’t get a sufficient education or a quality education, you may spend all of your time and all of your energy simply surviving. You can’t help anyone else if you can barely take care of yourself. And you can’t really understand and address problems that affect others if you’re unable to digest information and see things in context.
Big Benefit Number 4: Creating Generational Wealth. Increase your ability to leave something to your children or to the world in the form of an inheritance or a legacy. Leaving a legacy gives other people more than money: it offers them options. That can be life-changing for them, and emotionally rewarding for you. You can facilitate social change. You can leave your mark. Consider the impact that Warren Buffet, Bill and Melinda Gates, and Jimmy and Rosalynn Carter have had on the world. Follow their lead.
You may be artistically or technically inclined. That’s fine. I still encourage you to seek out a college education. Here are some of the differences a college education can make in your life:
College graduates have more income earning potential;
College graduates have more options in their careers;
College graduates are less likely to divorce;
College graduates enjoy better health;
College graduates live longer.
Once again: the college experience is invaluable. Often, you enroll as an insecure teenager with no idea about the world. More often than not, you graduate as a young adult with a certain amount of perspective, knowledge, and skills under your belt to face the world with a degree of confidence and competence. Hopefully, you will also possess a heightened awareness of what is expected of you as a global citizen.
THE CHALLENGES AND THE REWARDS
The challenges in getting an education are many. On the financial front there is the expense of tuition and often room and board. Student debt is daunting, even for middle-class families. If you have to work part-time or full-time, you’ll need the commitment and discipline to push through early mornings at class and late nights at the job.
You’ll need to look past friends your age who have ‘good jobs’ and spending money right now. You’ll need to hold focus on your goals and postpone gratification. You’ll need to ignore those in the media who tell you a college education may not be worth the effort and expense. Remember, most of these articles are written by pundits who have a college education and are published by executives with a college education.
The truth is that as you pursue and obtain an education, you will have set a worthwhile goal and accomplished it, which is key for your self-esteem. You will have something that cannot be taken away. It will last a lifetime. Its effects will bleed into every aspect of your life and nourish you in ways you can’t imagine.
You will have documented certification of a certain level of competence and  understanding. If your career path requires technical expertise, you will have verifiable proof of possessing that expertise. You will have a network of alumni to draw upon as you go forward into the workplace. You will be qualified for many more jobs, even if your field of study does not apply directly to your work.
Again, you will have entered an institution of higher learning as a teenager, with limited understanding, and graduated as a young adult, full of promise. You will be more empathetic, more mature, more prepared. These are just a few of the rewards of getting an education. If you did not have the opportunity to get an education immediately after high school, fear not. You can go to school or go back to school at any age. You can take classes online. You can take classes at night.
There is an abundance of resources to help you get an education. People of all ages, all over the world, know the value of an education and desperately want to learn.
A world of support and assistance is waiting. Loans and grants are available. Online courses are constantly on offer. Professional guidance about where and how to start, continue, or finish your education is there for anyone who wants it.
A word of caution about for-profit colleges: research their programs, prices, and promises carefully before putting your future in the hands of a company that is in business to make money. Private, state, and community colleges are your most reliable sources for getting the education, qualifications, and skills you need to succeed.
Business owners and public officials support and believe in education because there is a constant need for skilled workers and a preference for an educated populace. One ensures a society’s prosperity. The other ensures its democracy. Each student’s reasons are their own, but the blessings of education are universal: a better you, a better family, a better world.

21 Life-Changing Business Opportunities To Try in 2020 https://ift.tt/37TNVEa
There are so many incredible business opportunities to try in 2020. Of course, success in business always comes from laser focus. So choose one wisely. But there’s potential for success with every opportunity we’ve included on this list. So, let’s start brainstorming some business opportunities together to help you find the perfect fit.
Business Opportunities From Home
1. Dropshipping
One of the best business opportunities from home is dropshipping. Dropshipping has a low barrier of entry which makes it an excellent opportunity for beginners looking to build their first few businesses. In case you don’t know, dropshipping is when a seller sells a manufacturer’s products, but it’s the manufacturer who creates, packages, and ships the products to the customer. Thus, making it a hands-off and inventory-free business. You can sell products in an endless range of niches such as fashion, beauty, pets, home, automotive, and so much more. If you’re looking to start an online business, this is one of the most popular business opportunities you can capitalize on today.
2. Consulting
Consulting is one of the most common business opportunities. Many specialists start consulting to help a broader range of people with a specific skill. For example, you might be a Facebook Ads expert who consults with businesses on how to run effective Facebook Ads. Or you might be a beauty consultant who takes customers shopping to buy the right products for their skin tone. As an expert, you share your expertise with others to help them succeed too. So if you’re looking for some examples of business opportunities from home, think about what skills you excel in. Then, focus on finding people who need help with that.
3. Freelancing
Another business opportunity to consider is freelancing. Instead of consulting where you share your knowledge, in freelancing, you practice your skill for other businesses. If you’re looking for a more hands-off business, you can hire freelancers and delegate the projects to them, so your business scales better. Freelancing is an ideal business opportunity from home as it often entails remote work such as writing, graphic design, photography, and so forth. For example, your company might hire a team of freelance makeup artists and outsource work for various weddings, photoshoots, and corporate events while taking a cut of the fee.
4. Print on Demand
Ecommerce is one of the best business opportunities today. And just as dropshipping is popular, print on demand proves to be a worthwhile opportunity in itself. With print on demand, you design your products and a manufacturer prints, packages, and ships products to customers for you on your behalf. The critical difference between print on demand and dropshipping is that with print on demand you’re selling one of a kind products that nobody else is selling. The challenge is that you might not know what will sell well because you have no one to compare to. But the rewards that you’ll be the only seller make it a business opportunity to jump on.
Small Business Opportunities
1. Blogging
One of the best small business opportunities is blogging. Blogging is popular because there are so many potential sources of income. You could make money from affiliate marketing, ads, information products, physical products, influencer marketing, sponsorships, and gated premium content. With so many potential sources of income, bloggers focus on creating and marketing their content to build their website traffic. They promote via search engine optimization (SEO) and social media to gain new website visitors.
2. Affiliate Marketing
Small business opportunities, like affiliate marketing, are pretty common. You can become an affiliate of many top brands. An affiliate marketer earns a commission of every sale he brings in to a brand. Some brands like Amazon pay a small percentage of sales for every product an affiliate brings in. Other brands like Shopify pay up to $2,000 for every customer an affiliate brings in. You can build a blog, create posts on social media, or run ads with your affiliate link to generate sales for the brand you’re promoting.
3. App Creation
One of the most popular small business opportunities involves creating apps. You can build entertaining apps, such as addictive games or apps that are useful, such as a to-do list. You’ll need to know programming skills for either iOS or Android to make a successful business out of it. Of course, you can also outsource your app creation to a developer through a freelance website, but this can cost you tens of thousands of dollars upfront for a unique app. To promote your app, you can do media outreach, blogging, and backlink outreach on popular articles.
4. Online Course Creation
Online learning is one of the most significant business opportunities for the coming years. More people are taking to the internet to learn online. The e-learning market is expected to grow to $325 billion by 2025. You can create online courses in various niches. Whether you create the online courses yourself, hire people to create the courses for you, or let course creators use your platform, you can earn money doing this. It’s a worthwhile opportunity right now because it’s already popular and expected to continue growing.
New Business Opportunities
1. Cyber Security (Ethical Hacker)
With most of the world being online, we see a rise in cybercrime. Cybersecurity will be one of the most important business opportunities to consider. The industry is growing more prominent, and it solves one of the biggest online challenges people have today. There’s also ethical hacking which is slightly different but can work to help prevent cyberattacks or major hacks for big brands. Those who invest in starting a cybersecurity business will likely realize it’s a prominent business opportunity.
2. Artificial Intelligence
Artificial intelligence is one of the new business opportunities that still hasn’t made waves yet. Some fear that robots will take over the world. But artificial intelligence will be part of our society in some form or another. And who knows maybe humans will become half robotic in some way. The businesses that explore artificial intelligence will be part of one of the future’s biggest industries. Some are hard at work already, but we’ve yet to see what will be made of artificial intelligence which makes this an exciting business opportunity.
3. Cryptocurrency Investor
While cryptocurrency has already proven to be one of the most popular business opportunities, it’s still not at its peak. We’re unsure of how cryptocurrency will continue to evolve and grow. However, cryptocurrency investors may end up winning big if more companies and banks accept cryptocurrency as payment. Of course, there are always risks involved, and you may lose more than anticipated. But all great business opportunities have risks. Just be sure to do your homework first.
4. Automation
One of the new business opportunities you can jump on is automation. We’ve seen automation businesses grow substantially. Whether you’re automating retargeting ads or a repetitive task, the automation tools created can help save people time and money. And that’s why people end up becoming customers. It solves a significant problem. And those are the best business opportunities to go after.
List of Business Opportunities
1. Real Estate Investing
Real estate can be tricky as housing prices don’t always go up. We’ve also seen a major real estate market crash happen in our lifetime. However, the money you make from owning several rental properties can be enough to help you live a comfortable life. This business opportunity is too good to pass up. As the properties get paid off by the renters, you can choose to sell the properties if the value has gone up. To save on taxes, you can also reinvest the money earned into buying a bigger property such as a duplex or condo.
2. Dog Walking Business
The pet industry is one of the biggest industries. With so many people owning dogs, we’ve seen the rise in dog walking businesses. Dog walking is a business opportunity that works well in major cities. You can hire dog walkers to walk packs of five or fewer dogs of the same size. As dog owners become more informed about the separation anxiety their pets experience, they turn to dog walking services to help their dogs socialize and get some fresh air. This business opportunity has already proven to be popular, so it’s a worthwhile one to start if you’re passionate about dogs.
3. Housekeeping Business
In major cities, people continuously search for housekeepers and cleaners to keep their home tidy while they’re at work. Housekeeping poses a potential business opportunity for a savvy marketer. If you know how to find potential customers, you can hire cleaners to clean those customers’ homes. You’ll pay the cleaners an hourly fee. However, you can earn a sizable income from the rate you charge your customers. And at scale, the dollars add up.
4. Tutoring Business
Business opportunities are common in the education space. So many people want to learn. That’s why tutoring businesses are still popular. If your goal is to create a job for yourself, you can be the tutor. However, if you’re looking to own the business, you can hire students to tutor younger students. You’ll simply need to find customers for your business. The more customers you have, the bigger your business will grow. You can rent out office space for a couple of hours in the evening instead of investing in your own office space to cut costs. This can help you build a sustainable business.
5. Influencer Services
One of the most modern business opportunities involves influencer marketing. If you have a massive social media following, you can partner with other businesses to promote their products to your audience. When starting out, you might partner with affiliate programs to see how well your audience grows. And as your audience scales, more business opportunities come your way. You can focus on building various accounts. Maybe one where you build yourself or a pet as an influencer. Then perhaps another where you build fan pages for a specific topic or niche.
Business Opportunities Near Me
1. Uber or Lyft Driver
If you’re looking for local business opportunities, you can become an Uber or Lyft driver. Keep in mind that this business opportunity is popular right now. But with the expectation that there will be self-driving cars in the future, this business opportunity may be short-lived. But if you love capitalizing on business opportunities fast, you can start a driving service using Uber or Lyft to find clients. This is particularly helpful for limo drivers who are looking to earn more income beyond what they can earn from a limousine company.
2. Food Delivery
If you’re continually Googling ‘business opportunities near me,’ you might’ve noticed that food delivery services are growing quite big. You can choose to drive, bike, or walk for your food delivery business. And you don’t necessarily be the person delivering food to capitalize on this business opportunity. You can also own the business with the food. If you own a convenience store or restaurant, you can sell the food, snacks, or drink that people are ordering. This can be a way to expand your business’ reach.
3. Rent on Airbnb
Airbnb is one of the most attractive business opportunities in the real estate niche. It can be challenging to find people to rent your unit or spare bedroom to. So, broadening your audience and renting to travellers is an excellent opportunity to capitalize on. You can charge a price that’s on par or close to the cost of a hotel’s day rate. Thus, if you were booked up for the whole month, you would’ve made more overall than if you were renting out to a tenant the traditional way as standards are different.
4. Open a Food Truck
Many entrepreneurs are passionate about food. That’s why so many people aspire to open up a restaurant. However, with rent fees being sky-high in popular cities and competition fierce, many restaurants end up failing in only a couple of years. Thus, opening up a food truck is an excellent business opportunity for aspiring restaurant owners. It allows you to serve your own dishes but with a much lower risk.

50 Ecommerce Tips for New Entrepreneurs
The post 21 Life-Changing Business Opportunities To Try in 2020 appeared first on Oberlo.
from Oberlo
Conclusion
The most life-changing business opportunities are the ones you explore. Recognizing an opportunity is only one part of success. But the most important part is taking that first step to start the business. Let these business opportunities serve as a guide for what has potential. And try to choose the one that is aligned with your skills and passion. Which opportunity will you jump on today? Let us know in the comments!

My father has been a total dick to me for basically my whole life, but recently, realizing how pissed I am at him, he’s backed off a lot. And he’s been actually really helpful with my anxiety--I’m constantly freaking out about my bills, and how I’m being crushed under debt. But he told me, for one thing, that I’m not going to die. Our family would never let me be homeless. His girlfriend only paid off her student debt a year or two back, and she’s in her fifties. If I hurt my credit, I hurt my credit, whatever! It’s going to be okay.
So my fears of financial ruin are largely mitigated. But that’s just half the problem--the other half is the SHAME I feel for not being completely independent and self-sustaining.
I just graduated college six months ago. I’m still figuring out how to function in the adult world. I have ADHD, and that has impacted my ability to work enough to live above basic survival. I’m moving forward, but it’s not instantaneous or easy.
And my family...oh, shit, you know what, actually, it’s my mom. It’s just my mom. Her boyfriend bothers me a bit, but not really much at all--it’s just my mom.
As background, my mom has lived off of men for 95% of her life. She had a rough childhood and was taught, as a baby boomer, that she SHOULD rely on men, and thus never developed any real skills. But that doesn’t change the fact that she’s a shopaholic and criticizes everyone else in the world for not making money, despite her own failed efforts to make anything.
I’m making about $150 dollars a week right now. It’s total shit. I’m scraping by. When I go to my mom’s house for a day or two, I have to eat out--I’m an extremely picky eater, like, I have psychological problems with eating, and I’ll starve if I can’t find something I can stomach, because everything else makes me nauseous. I spend one to three bucks on a meal, one or two times a day, but JUST when I’m staying at my mom’s house. Back at my place, I could go a whole week without eating out; though most weeks, I eat out just once or twice. But again, less than $5.
And she blames this apparent flippancy with my money for my not having health insurance, and now, for having trouble affording first month’s rent at a new place since I’m being kicked out next month. I need to see a doctor for one or two things, but they’re not life-threatening or causing me any daily inconvenience, so I just told her I’m going to go within the next six months, but I just can’t right now. And she flipped out that I need a pap smear because I might have fucking cervical cancer. Which freaked me out, with my anxiety, but I talked to my dad about my symptoms and realized they could all be attributed to other, more likely sources (stress, trauma, yeast infection, etc). So, the fuck, Mom?
As for rent, my friend’s family is planning to give me a pretty nice discount for a bedroom in a townhouse they own, though the price will probably increase within the next few months as I get on my feet. It’s Christmastime, and I don’t think that, between my successful 30-year-old brother (who owns 2 pawn shops), my decently-employed father, my mother’s boyfriend (maybe) and my grandparents (and maybe uncle) that I couldn’t round up 300-400 bucks for rent as a Christmas present. But my mom flips out, accusing me of spending my money willy-nilly, and having to rely on others because of it.
This coming from the woman who blatantly lied, telling me her boyfriend would pay me back, in order to get me to buy a $340 bus ticket for my bum brother to come home--with my graduation money. Her boyfriend, out of pity and not obligation, waived a $140 debt I owed him, but I’m still out $200. Permanently, essentially. Speaking of my 27-year-old homeless brother, he has basically been living off of the family for ten years. He’s utterly aimless and a pathological liar, saying whatever he has to in order to scrape by. He’s “spiritual”--“I don’t understand why everyone is so concerned with money,” he tells me. “They get so worked up, they should learn to let go. *I* don’t worry about money.” Fuck you, dude, you don’t worry about money because you’re using everyone else’s money to live. Both my father and my mother’s boyfriend have squandered thousands of dollars trying to get him on his feet, but he’s a lost cause. I love my brother, and he’s not a mean or angry person; he’s actually really nice and has a warm personality--but he manipulates so he can live as he pleases, and he lies about feeling bad about it. However, I’m pretty damn sure he has some mental illness (but he refuses to see a psychiatrist) so I give him a bit of a pass.
I bring this up, though, because I’m fucking 22 years old. I JUST graduated college. And I’m struggling. Is that a fucking sin? I have mental illness; they KNOW this. And I’ve gotten SO much better and I’m SO much more successful than I was even a year ago, but it’s never enough. I’ve always been recovering, I’ve gotten worse at times but it’s been a general climb; but I’m not superwoman. Yes, my other brother, a year older than me, is sustaining himself out of pure willpower, working 40+ hours a week. But we are not the same, everyone has different abilities and disabilities, and I cannot do what he does, at least not right now.
But how dare I need help? This from the woman who conned me out of money; promised me graduation money that never appeared; convinced her boyfriend to buy her a $5,000 porcelain doll; collected $800 a month in child support for both my brother and I even though he had his own place and I was off at college, and for a whole semester, never sent me the $200 a month she promised; told me, a month out of college when I’d just gotten a decent job, that I shouldn’t go asking for that $340 back because I didn’t “need” it; and on and on and on. No, she’s not a completely horrible person, yes, she’s done a lot for me, but no, that doesn’t erase this character flaw of hers or her fault for treating me this way.
She’s literally the worst person I know with money, she makes barely anything herself and relies on her boyfriend, and sometimes lies and cheats to get what she wants. But she is so quick to point fingers and shame you for getting a fucking burger.
Writing this has been very cathartic. I’m trying to be less ashamed, and it makes me feel better to realize that the person shaming me the most is the one who has the least right to do so. Americans owe over $1.45 trillion in student debt; I should feel no shame for having any, because it’s basically just what you have to do to get an education and a job people like me are fit for (I would die of exhaustion doing any manual labor); just about every college student has some; it’s going to end up hurting the economy and private loan servicers more than us when we inevitably start defaulting and I kind of like watching capitalism--I mean, the world--burn. ADHD is a genuine disability that I accept that I have and will overcome, but it will take time, and I’m not going to rush myself because that’ll just make shit worse. I’m twenty fucking two, and most of my age group is floundering right now; I’m not alone and my lack of success isn’t because of any more or worse character flaws than the next person. I don’t deserve to feel ashamed for my financial woes, considering the state of US business practices and politics, as well as the simple reality that very few people are comfortable by 22. I’m just going to try to...take a fucking chill pill.

The 10 Steps to Learning to be a Pro Gamer
Tumblr media
Video gaming for a full-time income always appeared like some kind of adolescent desire growing up. Being paid to try out your preferred game was something most kids only fantasized about, but in 2012 now, it actually can be considered a fact for the truly hard-working and talented. also, check out Four Possible TRX40 Motherboards Unintentionally Listed By Gigabyte For The AMD Ryzen Threadripper 3000
eSports worldwide has exploded, and with it, there's a whole course of 15-30 12 months olds who now play video games for a full-time income. From the hundreds of thousands that play game titles like Starcraft, Halo or Little league of Legends, they've gotten so excellent that lots of can make a full-time living out of video gaming. The very best few players in the world even draw in six physique wages between sponsorships, team incomes, and tournament earnings.
So, how will you follow their business lead? A very important factor should be clear right away, it's a great deal of effort. These ten steps should send you on the way.
1. Practice
It could be nice that you will get to play a casino game you like and think you're very good at. But do you like it enough to try out it six, seven, eight hours a full day, every full day? Because that's what must be done if you even want a prayer to be a pro. The very best players have a regimented practice routine against rivals at or above their level, as it is the only way to seriously progress in skill. Make certain you're constantly using folks who are much better than you, as it is the only way you'll develop as a new player.
2. Keep YOUR ENTIRE DAY Job
It certainly is good to truly have a back-up plan, and I'd not advocate anyone drop out of college or quit their current job until they have at least SOME indicator they can generate income and support themselves by video gaming. If you've received some tournament reward money, or your stream gets a respectable amount of advertisement dollars, you can look to begin scaling back again your everyday activities, but trimming them chilly turkey right from the start is a risk you ought not to be taking.
3. Studying
Like finding success in virtually any field, it is critical to study those people who have excelled before you. Watching pro replays over and over until you begin to absorb their strategies and tactics is a must. These players have been perfecting their artwork for years, as well as for someone just getting started, it's of the most important to learn higher-level tactic first by viewing, by practicing then.
4. Homework
Playing the overall game all night is good practice, yes, but sometimes you may want to focus on one particular facet of your play to be able to get the advantage on your opponents. The term would be that the best Terran Starcraft player in the world, MarineKingPrime, methods splitting marines, a complicated, click-heavy game maneuver, all night at the same time. It takes merely a couple of seconds in each example, but it's like capturing one thousand free throws so you can come through in the clutch if you want to.
5. Community
Understand that virtually all pro gamers are part of the community, and you ought to be too. Be it participating in discussion board discussions or developing your team, you mustn't be training in vacuum pressure. Outdoors insight and strategy conversations with friends who also play is important when wanting to go pro.
6. Practice
Do I point out you will need to practice? The very best tier benefits often live collectively in homes where they play against one another for hours each day. That isn't something you must do when getting started, but it shows how important continuous play and practice is when it comes to trying to be the best.
7. Rage Control
Understand that you are going to lose. Even the best players on the planet lose from thirty to 50 percent of their video games. Losing is a part of the path to becoming a much better player, and raging and garbage talk does nothing at all to help you improve. Pro Ukranian Starcraft player White-Ra famously experienced this to state about dropping, learning and maintaining your cool. "ONCE I starting play, I very unsatisfactory and very unfortunate after my loss. If you wish to make one goal to earn, you must lose. You can't win all the video games. We are people, we make a mistake. We aren't a computer. And if you realize your mistake, you may evaluate the game. And continue steadily to play, try to correct it. More GG, more skill."
8. Balance
Just as much as we've emphasized that hours of practice are essential for success, you must have balance, meaning a life beyond the game. Many pro players began as teens, but now have become up and also have groups of their own. Friendships and family are greatly very important to your mental well-being, so don't shut people out and only holing yourself up to try out whatsoever hours.
9. Talent
Recognize that not many people are cut out to be always a pro player. Even if you are good, you merely might not have the physical capability to be on par with the professionals. eSports requires mental and physical prowess, and the very best players have to make a huge selection of activities one minute all the time, making them play at almost superhuman velocity. It simply is extremely hard for everyone, no matter how much they could practice. You may be proficient at golf, but it doesn't indicate after 10,000 openings, you are going to be PADRAIG HARRINGTON.
10. Practice
In the event, I haven't managed to get clear up to now. For anybody aspiring to be another Fatal1ty or Boxer, You are wished by me the best. Keep each one of these steps at heart as you play, and understand that most of all, games are said to be fun, when played professionally even.

You should also look into opening a brokerage account and the account you open must be strictly an options account. For this, you will require the permission of the company's principal in order to do this. If you have little or no experience the principal might not approve any strategies above the writing covered calls but as you get more knowledge you can ask for permission to take part in more advanced options trading strategies. When trading in options, be sure to understand all the characteristics of standard options and the risks too. There is a book written in relation to known SEC strategy that all brokerage firms give to people who open options trading accounts with them. Education for options trading must also include a comprehensive education in technical analysis as the full benefits of options trading can only be obtained from accurate trend analysis and market timing.
options trading hours Kansas So why are these free money making ideas so good?
Such single contract real options trading practice is critical due to the fact that most beginners make their first losses through execution mistakes such as clicking on a wrong link, using a wrong order or placing an advanced order wrongly. Such unnecessary losses can be significant if a lot of money is committed right from the start and its impact on trading confidence cannot be undermined. Trading only single options contracts may be inefficient in terms of commissions for some options brokers but it allows such mistakes to be made with relatively low level of pain on your capital. As such, it is recommended for a beginner options trader at this stage to keep trading only single contract until no more executional mistakes are made moving on to the next step. Step 4: All Out Options TradingAll out trading is when you are truly ready to make options trading a true source of additional income or income replacement. This is when you will commit significant amounts of money in order to produce a meaningful profit trading options. However, coming out of single contract real trading, one should not immediately commit all the money one can muster all at once. Emotional stress increases as capital involved increases. Indeed, an options trader who can handle trading thousands of dollars may not have the emotional strength to handle trading hundreds of thousands and such a surge in emotional stress usually lead to dire consequences. It is again just like learning to swim; you don't jump straight into the deepest end by rather move deeper gradually as your confidence and competence increases. As such, one should trade options with more and more money only as one's trading confidence and competence increases. Indeed, learning to trade options effectively without damaging one's trading confidence along the way is the only way to ensure long term success in options trading. This is why adhering to the steps in learning to trade options are so important. Start Making Money Fast Trading OptionsPeople want to start making money fast. The best strategy to use for that goal is trading options. When most people think of options they assume that there risky. Which in fact, they are for those who don't trade them correctly. Stock options are used to create leverage and control risk. The strategies I learned from my mentors are profitable and simple once you get the hang of them. There are two types of options, calls and puts. There are also two things you can do with any option, either buy it or sell it.
momentum options trading newsletter Kansas This is the type of option you want to sell because every day that passes that $3.
00 at expiration to make money.
qqq options trading Kansas You can watch a how to trade options video and learn the most effective options trading strategies if you are prepared to put in a little time and effort.
There are so many situations you can put yourself in through trading options that give you a mathematical edge. Most people think trading options is risky. The reason is most people lose money who trade options! 80% of options expire worthless. So, who's making all of the money? The people who are buying those options or those who are selling them. The reason people say that options are risky is because they don't understand them. If they did they would have a much different opinion. Just ask a successful market maker what he or she thinks about options. Market makers that I follow know a lot of ways to make extra money. They are going to tell a completely different story. Options reduce risk and maximize profits if traded correctly. In this page I will show you some of my favorite strategies that put me on the winning side.
options trading advisory Kansas Depending on a few different factors what I have found is if I sell a vertical spread with 30 days until expiration like the above example, after about 15 days of being in the trade I will break even at worst if I get stopped out.
This option would make money fast because it would move quickly in price with the stock. Let's look at another example to bring home the point of the kind of options you want to buy. Stock xyz is trading at $60. 00 The $60. 00 call is with 45 days until expiration is trading for $3. 00The intrinsic value is $0. 00. It has no real value because it's OTM (out of the money)The extrinsic value is $3. 00. This is the type of option you want to sell because every day that passes that $3. 00 time premium paid will decrease. If you bought this $60. 00 call you would need xyz to rally passed $63. 00 at expiration to make money. So, the strategy I recommend is to buy ITM (in the money) options with a delta of at least (. 7) or higher and at least 60 days until expiration. Of course this must be accompanied with a sound trading plan to minimize risk by using stop losses and hedging techniques. If you want to make money fast then this type of strategy should definitely part of your portfolio because it allows you to take a little risk and make large gains. In any trade you need to have defined risk. The best way to accomplish this is by having a specific plan for your trades before you're even in them. People who succeed in trading don't allow their emotions to come into play.

Create and Hustle: Two Habits to Scale Your Personal Brand
There’s a not-so secret strategy to growing your personal brand, and it has just two habits:
Create
Hustle
There’s a whole industry wrapped around personal branding. You can learn how to optimize your LinkedIn profile, create a personal mission statement, learn how to grow your audience, and 10x your performance (whatever that means).
To be blunt, all these personal branding tactics are secondary. Unless you have mastered the Create/Hustle Cycle, they won’t deliver much value.
Take a moment and look at the authors, speakers, and leaders that you admire. For me, it’s people like Seth Godin, Tim Ferriss, and Dan Pink. They’re people that have worked deliberately to grow their brand and reputation by delivering immense value to a large audience.
The way they achieved their fame wasn’t by taking personal branding courses, or navel gazing about their “why.” They grew their brands by creating and promoting exceptional ideas.
That’s the strategy for personal branding:
Create: Package your ideas, expertise, and insights into products. This can be free content like a blog or podcast, premium content packaged in products or services, or a combination of both.
Hustle: Launch your ideas (content and products) and promote the heck out of them. Work to get your ideas to spread by sharing them with people that can value and use your expertise.
Create: Package Your Ideas to Spread
The first habit, Create, is the foundation of your brand, and it’s truly a habit.
In his biography, I Can’t Make This Up, Kevin Hart explains how he found his voice as a comedian. When he started out he created the persona, “Lil’ Kev the Bastard.” He was loud and silly, and used whatever gimmick he could to make people laugh.
Kevin Hart was funny, but he wasn’t original.
Hart’s mentor, Keith Robinson, taught him the power of being authentic. Robinson said, “Say something that matters, rather than stuff you think the crowd wants to hear, and you won’t go wrong.”
The advice stuck, and Hart made the difficult transition from telling jokes to connecting with his audience by sharing personal stories. This was a critical turning point in his career, because it forced Kevin Hart to become vulnerable and unique.
Kevin Hart didn’t start out as a master comedian. He spent years grinding away, creating jokes, and developing his skills. The cycle more than paid for itself, and today Kevin Hart is one of the highest paid comedians.
Creating rewards creating. Creating — whether it’s jokes, books, keynotes, products, blog posts, or Instagram updates — is a skill that requires honing. The more you create, the better you get. And this is the foundation of your brand.
The quality of your ideas and how they are packaged will define your brand. It’s the difference of being an amateur versus a professional.
Hustle: Relentlessly Promote Your Ideas
Hustle is the habit of promoting your content and making your ideas spread.
The best books don’t necessarily land on the New York Times Best Sellers List. The books you see on the lists have the best promotion. In fact, many NYT best selling authors have gamed the system, and bought their way onto the lists.
Marketing can be won with big budgets. This is a form of hustling. If you’ve got the resources, use them.
For the normals — up-and-comers or people who don’t have a couple hundred thousand dollars to launder book sales — we use more traditional means of promotion. We hustle by connecting with our audiences directly, and working deliberately to launch and promote our content.
I apply a simple guideline for hustling: every hour you invest in creating, spend two more in promotion.
How you choose to hustle is up to you, and what works best for your style:
Grow your following on social media.
Speak at industry events and conferences.
Implement Google Adword campaigns.
Network and connect with influencers.
Pick up the phone and start dialing.
It’s your job to promote your content and your ideas, and this is how you scale your brand. The more you promote your ideas, the more your reputation and network will grow.
Create/Hustle Is a Virtuous Cycle
The Create and Hustle habits are closely linked:
Creating new ideas and content gives you new products to market, sell, and promote.
Marketing your ideas gives you feedback and insights to develop your skills and generate more ideas.
The optimal structure is to be creating and launching new ideas constantly. It’s a process:
Create
Hustle
Repeat
The more you complete the process, the faster your brand will grow. It’s like a flywheel. The first few turns will feel slow and awkward. This is to be expected. You are developing the habits to create and hustle.
As you get a few launches under your belt, the process takes off:
Your audience grows faster.
Your influence expands.
Your ideas spread faster and further.
You make more money.
The strategy is simple in concept, but hard in execution: create, hustle, repeat. But this process is fundamentally how you grow a remarkable personal brand.
You don’t need to spend time and money on “personal branding courses.” Just get to work. Create and package your ideas, and work your butt off to get them to spread.

Great way to secure your blog
I’ve had to go through the inconvenience of a hacked blog before and let me tell you it’s not nice. With online security becoming an increasing problem, especially with WordPress, this is a great way to secure your blog. I’ll be following Matt’s training and securing all my blogs … great job.
Tumblr media
Simon Hodgkinsonwww.hodgkinsonpublishing.com
Tumblr media
This is a seriously good product
I’ve been in the online business for 10+ years and had my fair share of hacked sites which have cost me time and money (lots of it) … I’ve also seen a good number of people have their reputations and entire businesses left in tatters when their sites have been hacked…
Tumblr media
It’s Matt Garrett here with an important message about YOUR web properties. I don’t release digital products often, so when I do the goal is to save YOU time and money. Everything I share is based on personal experience and results.
Whatever you’ve heard about increasing conversions and sales ….
Whatever popups, viral softwares and other methods you’ve got in place … None of it matters if your money site gets hacked or compromised. It all comes down to keeping the doors to YOUR business OPEN …
99% Of Success Is Showing Up – Make Sure YOUR Sites Keep Showing Up!
Regardless of whether or not you feel you need this offer, I’m going to share information on this page that’s CRITICAL for you to know.
No “fake” pain points or “how I’m like you” hogwash … Just industry facts that most website owners are simply unaware of.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And it’s costing them thousands. Did you know …
It’s a pretty grim picture, but it’s the reality.
See, I’ve been a niche marketer and WordPress user for OVER 12 years. I run hundreds of profitable websites, and have seen first hand the pain and suffering of having a money site hacked.
On average, it takes a webmaster 152 days to even realize his or her site has been hacked.
In ALL that time, the site owner can be losing traffic, compromising their subscriber base, and unknowingly presenting FRAUDULENT offers to visitors.
And potentially be facing CRIMINAL charges, fines and court time – in addition to a MASSIVE loss of business and being PERMANENTLY blacklisted by the search engines.
OUR “ZERO-HACK” TRACK RECORD
Since releasing the original version of this software, none of our OVER 2500 users have had a SINGLE site hacked. And now we’ve updated it to make it easier to use, faster to setup, and to better protect YOUR assets against the most current attacks happening right now. Even tighter server security, kick-out policy, file monitoring, spam blocking, reputation checking, security audits and more – just SOME of the updates in this version.
Tumblr media
“It Can’t Happen To Me – I Just Have A Simple Blog Without Much Traffic Or Income”
Sadly, wrong. To hackers, EVERY site is a potential cash resource. Skilled hackers can:
Imagine, you’ve spent months developing an amazing website. Researched your niche, created unique content. Invested time or hard-earned dollars on SEO, link building and traffic.
Finally your site is getting regular visitors AND income, then one day you wake up and it’s … all … gone.
Your site’s been hacked, and all that hard work has gone up in smoke.
It could take you DAYS to restore your site.
Your hosting account has been suspended or banned.
You’ve been BLACKLISTED by the search engines.
And every day your business is bleeding profits
Tumblr media
This PROFIT KILLING NIGHTMARE Happens To 30 THOUSAND Webmasters EVERY SINGLE Day
According to research from the BBC, Forbes, Securi and Sophos – in articles released between February and April of 2015 – the following AUTHORITY sites were HACKED:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Think it can’t happen to you? Look at that list, then think again!
If you haven’t been hacked yet, it’s really just a matter of time.
Secure Your Sites From 99.9% of All Hacker, Bot And Brute Force Attacks
Relax, knowing that your money sites, digital products and subscriber lists are completely secure. Continue to build your business knowing that your traffic ISN’T being compromised. All WITHOUT costly plugins or EXPENSIVE monthly fees paid to security specialists.

How Does Blog Defender Lock Down My Websites?
We’ve left absolutely nothing to chance. The software STARTS with the 4 most vulnerable points of attack for any WP site:
Tumblr media
That’s Just For Starters – Blog Defender Goes Many Steps Further:
Tumblr media
Blog Defender Is Like Having A TRIPLE Kryptonite Lock On Your Best Bike
The bottom line is this. Most hackers – like bike thieves – are lazy. They’ll try for “easy” wins. When they come across your site and see the security in place, most will move on instantly.
Those that go a step further will be blocked at every turn. And soon realize it’s not in their best interest to continue. Then they’ll move to another, more vulnerable website.

You Don’t Even Need To Know HOW It Works, It Just DOES!
When I got started, I had no idea of all the ways hackers could attack. Learned by painful experience. That’s why I developed this package. To protect site owners from experiencing the same hassles I did back in the day. And this completely updated version represents the most cutting edge, MODERN tactics to protect YOUR digital assets from attack.
Tumblr media
An Estimated TRILLION Dollars Of Intellectual Property STOLEN
Once hacked, it’s too easy for attackers to share your paid products on blackhat and torrent sites. Some product creators have had this happen EVEN BEFORE they launched their product. All that work – and potential profit – gone.
Tumblr media
Blacklisted By The Search Engines
Hacked sites are almost instantly de-indexed by the major search engines. Organic traffic to these sites disappears overnight.
And when legitimate customers or prospects do try to navigate
to a hacked site? Often they’ll get a scary warning like this:
Even if you’re able to recover your site if it’s hacked – 1 out of 4 hacked sites are NEVER recovered
Even if you’re able to reopen your hosting account – most hosts suspend or cancel the accounts of users that get their sites hacked.
Tumblr media
The LONG TERM Damage To Your Online Reputation Can Be Devastating
Tumblr media
Short term loss of profits from having a site hacked is really just the start of the story. Having your entire subscriber base compromised – often sold and presented with fraudulent offers – is where things get really scary.
Add in the fact that any or all of your PAID products can start popping up on free sharing sites, and it’s easy to realize that being hacked is a serious risk to any online business.
And if you think your hosting company, basic security plugins and even paid services will protect your site, think again. In my years of experience, none of these have done anything to secure my websites.
Set & Forget WordPress Security In Minutes
Blog Defender is the most advanced, all-in-one WP site security system available today. It protects against ALL kinds of hackers, bots and data miners.

The Rise Of TikTok | Explained By The News Cover
The News Cover: 2020 has been a year of chaos, uncertainty and grief. A global pandemic, record unemployment and nationwide protests have left people reeling. Through it all though, there's been TikTok, providing moments of levity and new dance crazes, interspersed with more serious commentary on the issues that we face. TikTok, it's like the party you want to be at, a t the moment.
You'll see hair tutorials, cooking tutorials. People can create challenges, they can create duets, th ey can interact, they can engage. T ikTok is the most downloaded app of 2020. Since its global release less than two years ago, TikTok and its Chinese counterpart, Douyin, have amassed 800 million monthly active users, more than Reddit, Snapchat or Twitter. Its parent company, ByteDance, is the most valuable startup in the world. Its reach might surprise you unless you're a member of Gen Z or the parent of one. But as millions scramble for connection amidst quarantines, more and more users of all ages are hopping aboard.
We're all just kind of going through the same thing together. And we happen to be documenting it all through TikTok. It's not all rosy, though. The Chinese-owned app faces a slew of regulatory hurdles, privacy concerns and allegations of censorship. Amidst these struggles, it's brought in a new CEO. This guy is Kevin Mayer. Formerly the Head of Streaming at Disney. That's basically what Kevin Mayer's first priority needs to be, is to make sure that Americans trust TikTok. In the long run, t hat may prove complicated. But in the short term, it hasn't prevented tens of thousands of new users from signing up.
The predecessor to TikTok was an app called Musical.ly. Founded in 2014, it provided a platform for users to create short, 15 second videos set to a song of their choice. The content mostly involved lip-syncing and dancing, and it took off quickly among preteens and teens in the U.S. This is an app that was built around the fact that there was music that was licensed to be used on this app. This was something that Musical.ly decided really to invest in, because they knew that music and sharing music was inherently social.
By July 2015, a year after its launch, Musical.ly reached number one in the iTunes app store. It continued to grow and was bought by the Beijing-based startup ByteDance for one billion dollars in 2017. ByteDance already owned Tik Tok, a similar video sharing platform, and merged the two apps less than a year later. Now TikTok's main office is in Los Angeles, California. They're essentially an American startup that is subsidized by a successful Chinese tech company. As the app has grown, it's given rise to a whole new pack of social media celebrities.
Content is public by default on TikTok, and the algorithm that determines what appears on a user's home page gives every creator the chance to put their video in front of millions. Really what we saw was a different style of humor. It wasn't the sketches that you saw on Vine, and it wasn't longer-form YouTube videos. It was meme culture or like the general public's take on a meme. What I enjoyed about it is there was some deeper humor in there if you were paying attention to the trends that were happening.
On TikTok, King uses creative video editing to make it look like he's performing magic tricks, a skill which has earned him over 44 million followers, the second most on the app as of June 2020. But at 30, King represents the rare millennial that's broken into TikTok's top ranks. Many of the most followed users are in their teens, and lip syncing and dancing remain wildly popular. So I originally started when I was 14 years old, and so I started using my facial expressions and hand motions to make these like larger than life lip sync videos. And as I grew up, I think the app also grew up. Now there's so much more that you can do.
While Martin has found her niche with dancing and lifestyle content, she says there's something out there for everyone. There's like creators who are huge when it comes to comedy, some still do lip syncing, some cooking videos, tutorials. You can do whatever you want as long as it's fun, it's quick and it catches people's eye. Stay at home orders have propelled the app's rapid growth in the United States. So between October and March, according to research fro m Comscore, its unique visitors has grown from 27 million to 52 million, so doubled in the past five months.
And within that time period, just in March alone, according to Comscore TikTok added 12 million new unique visitors. People in the U.S. on TikTok spent more time on TikTok than Instagram users spent on Instagram or Snapchat users spent on Snapchat in the month of March. That's a big deal since Snap and Instagram are two of the app's main competitors. They're all extremely popular among young users, b ut in the U.S. at least, TikTok still has some catching up to do. We estimate that this year TikTok will have 45 million users.
But Instagram, we're estimating will have over 110 million and Snapchat will have 85 million users. But TikTok is also huge abroad, especially in India and China. In China, it operates as a technically separate but very similar app called Douyin. And in the first quarter of 2020, TikTok and Douyin were downloaded 315 million times globally, a 68 percent increase over the previous year. In April, the company reached two billion overall downloads.
India is by far the app's largest market when it comes to downloads, accounting for 30.3 percent of the total. But China is definitely the largest from a revenue standpoint, accounting for about 72 percent of total spending on the app. The U.S. is third in terms of downloads and second in terms of revenue, and its influence continues to grow. Viral dances and memes have propelled a number of songs to the top of the U.S. charts, most famously, Old Town Road in 2019 . And now the moms, dads and siblings of the TikTok o bsessed have started to get in on the trends as well, learning dances and performing challenges together.
You're still laughing at them, but actually the fact that parents are getting on it, I mean they needed that demo so badly to even make it to this level that they're at now. In order to build out a sustainable revenue model, e xperts say that TikTok eventually needs to attract older users. Advertisers are going after broader demographics and especially those with purchasing power. But TikTok is not under immediate pressure to make money just yet. Its parent company ByteDance is valued at over 100 billion dollars and made three billion dollars in revenue last year.
That's because it owns a host of other, more profitable Chinese apps, most notably Douyin and a news aggregator called Toutiao. TikTok's revenue model is still very, very nascent. This is a company that has some advertising, we have some of the users starting to do sponsorships. But at the end of the day, this is a company with hundreds of millions of users here in the U.S. that's still not making as much money as it could some day. Monetization aside, many say that CEO Kevin Mayer's first priority needs to be the regulatory and privacy concerns facing the app, which stem from its Chinese ownership as well as its popularity among children.
You know, it's never been the case that so many Americans are putting so much of their visual data in the hands of a Chinese company. And as we know, the relationship between the Chinese government and Chinese corporations is a pretty tight one. While TikTok claims that all American user's data is stored within the U.S. and is not subject to Chinese law, many security experts remain skeptical. Similar concerns exists in India, where data protection laws are weaker and thus citizens are more vulnerable. Regulators are going to be very weary of that separation.
Where's the data held? What's the cross-pollination look like? A number of incidents over the years have provided ample reason for worry. An investigation by The Guardian last September revealed that TikTok moderators were instructed to censor videos related to Tiananmen Square and other content deemed sensitive by the Chinese government.
While the company claimed that these guidelines had been phased out by the time of the investigation, it still helped spur the Federal Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States to open an ongoing review into ByteDance's acquisition of Musical.ly. It seems unlikely that ByteDance would be forced to divest itself of what was Musical.ly, now is TikTok. But I do think that this all speaks to the great amount of concern and oversight over this app that's gone from a tiny little thing to this huge powerhouse.
Most recently, the app received criticism for what it said was a technical glitch, in which post tagged with #BlackLivesMatter and #GeorgeFloyd appeared to have zero views when they actually have over two billion. And in the past, both India and Indonesia have instituted brief bans on the app due to concerns over inappropriate content like violence and pornography.
Lastly, there are ongoing issues regarding children's privacy. Users under 13 are technically not allowed on TikTok, but there's not much really preventing them from signing up. In February 2019, the company paid 5.7 million dollars to the FTC to settle charges that it was illegally collecting children's personal information. This then prompted the U.K. to conduct their own investigation into the matter. While TikTok said it would make changes, in May 2020 a coalition of consumer groups filed a complaint stating that TikTok had not kept its promises.
It's all undoubtedly a lot for Mayer to inherit. But given his background at Disney, some say he may be exactly the right person to address these concerns. So he is someone who has experience dealing with regulation, dealing with oversight, and especially dealing with online security issues, which are certainly front of mind for TikTok as they navigate their relationship with the FTC. If Mayer can secure the trust of U.S. consumers and investors, Byt eDance could be well positioned for an IPO in the next year or two. Beyond that, experts say that TikTok's long-term prospects depend upon its ability to keep users engaged while building out a sustainable monetization strategy.
YouTube could be seen as a model in the way that YouTube shares advertising revenue with its content creators. Mayer's background in streaming services also has both analysts and creators excited about what new forms of content may lie on the horizon. I have been begging TikTok to get into the streaming game. People have speculated that TikTok might get involved in original programming.
To make TikTok sustainable, you're going to have to do long-form content. I don't see a version where you make 60 second videos forever and it stays cool for another two to three years. King also says TikTok's live-streaming feature has room to grow. It's super popular in China, but hasn't yet taken off in the U.S. I think what's next for TikTok is how they figure out how to make money, how they figure out how to create a home for advertisers, and how they make sure that content creators themselves want to stick around and don't want to go jump off to whatever the next cool app is going to be.
