🕸️IF YOU NEED A HERO || Oscar Piastri Spider-Man AU!
CHAPTER 1. THE BITE

word count: 3.7k
🗓️ August 8, 2023 🌏 Melbourne, Australia.
OSCAR HAD NOTHING TO DO THERE. Of course, the guy was a genius, and it was true that this had earned him a place at university much earlier than most of his generation. However, he had set aside all academic matters from the moment he moved up to Formula 2; the category was significantly more demanding than any other motorsport competition he had ever been in, and it reached the point where he had to decide whether he wanted to continue pursuing a racing career or focus on his studies. At the end of the day, adrenaline won the dilemma, and Oscar ended up choosing cars and speed, so now more than ever, he refused to return to a life of books and assignments.
But it had been Lily who had asked him to go, his Lily, and Oscar was practically incapable of refusing anything his best friend asked of him.
So he was there, on a tour of one of Australia’s leading technology companies with her, because apparently, there was no better way to spend the summer break than that. Not that he was complaining too much—the topics of the conference they had attended were interesting to him, and he understood each and every one of them as if they were explaining the colors of the rainbow. But, above all, what he enjoyed the most was spending time with Lily.
"I got us coffee," his friend’s cheerful voice brought his attention back to the real world.
Oscar blinked a couple of times, finally shifting his gaze away from the enormous window to look at her. She was offering him a small white cup.
"Great," he murmured, taking the coffee cup. "What time does this end?"
The brunette rolled her eyes, smiling sideways and shaking her head. She knew that Oscar wasn’t very fond of activities that didn’t require a significant expenditure of energy. Adrenaline was his thing, and it was clear he wasn’t going to find it in a science tour.
"It’s got, at most, half an hour left," she said, checking her watch before taking a sip of her coffee. "But I was thinking of making a stop first."
She looked at him in that way that, Oscar knew, meant she was about to get them into trouble. The young driver immediately shot her a warning look, which Lily deliberately ignored before walking in the opposite direction of the tour group.
"Lily! Lils!" he called her in a low voice, trying to stop her. However, he didn’t succeed, and soon the brunette was already running down the hallway. "Damn it..."
That was the dynamic between Oscar and Lily—she got into trouble, and he saved her. It had been like that ever since they met in high school, when Oscar was still trying to balance school with being a driver, and Lily, being one of the few in advanced courses like him, was the only one who helped him get assignments and homework done.
They were pretty close, and Oscar couldn’t deny the evident attraction he felt for her. However, he had forced himself to keep it a secret because he didn’t want to lose the friendship he had with Lily. On top of that, Oscar always had terrible luck with girls, so he knew that even if he dared to tell her, it would probably go very badly. And, above all, he didn’t feel uncomfortable living that way—after all, it was as if they were in a relationship already, since they did everything together. That was why they were there at that moment.
"Lily..." he spoke again, this time lowering his voice and trying to act natural to avoid raising suspicion.
After a minute, he finally spotted her entering a place that looked exactly like somewhere they shouldn’t be, making Oscar’s heart race—and yet he followed her, intending to get her out of there.
It was a huge room where he noticed hundreds of small glass tubes, carefully arranged on tall metal shelves, lined up one behind another under neon lights. The tubes had labels with numbers and letters, seemingly control codes. Although neither of them knew what it was, they didn’t take long to find out, as Lily’s curious nature led her to get even closer to the shelves.
"Ozzy, look!" the brunette exclaimed, pointing at the tubes. "They’re insects!"
Oscar frowned as he approached the spot she was pointing at. For a moment, he didn’t believe it, but then he realized she was serious when he saw a couple of beetles up close. He wondered why they had so many animals in a place that operated entirely on technological solutions.
"Lils... This doesn't feel right," he murmured while looking around.
"Are you suggesting we investigate?" she asked, looking at him mischievously.
"I'm suggesting we get out of here before we get caught." The girl made a face, and Oscar rolled his eyes.
Of course, she didn't listen at all. Instead, she grabbed the camera hanging around her neck, preparing to take some pictures of the tiny insects. Some had fascinating colors, and Lily was clearly not going to miss the opportunity to capture them.
Oscar kept an eye on the entrance, making sure no one came in and caught them. That’s when he saw two men approaching. It was obvious they worked there—the lab coats gave them away—and the Australian panicked because there was no way they could exit through that door without being seen. Without warning, he covered Lily’s mouth with his hand while using his other arm to grab her waist and pull her behind one of the shelves.
Lily looked at him, confused and completely startled, but he signaled for her not to say a single word.
The men entered and stopped in front of one of the rows of tubes, taking a couple and jotting down notes before placing them back. They repeated the process a few more times, making it feel like an eternity for both of them.
They weren’t in the best position, and Lily’s leg was starting to cramp. Oscar quickly noticed the pained expressions on his friend’s face and how hard she was trying to hold her position.
Oscar quickly assessed their situation. He realized that if Lily stretched her leg, she would hit the lower part of one of the shelves, which would likely cause a loud noise at best—or, at worst, knock some of the tubes to the ground.
He reached out to stop Lily’s leg, but he wasn’t fast enough. She couldn’t hold on any longer, and her leg simply slid forward with force, hitting the shelf.
Oscar’s reflexes were undoubtedly better than Lily’s, so as soon as he saw the shelf wobble, he didn’t hesitate to shield his friend’s body. Just as he had predicted, some of the flasks fell to the floor, and one of them shattered directly against his neck. Oscar didn’t think much of it because he immediately stood up, grabbing Lily’s hand to pull her up too, and started running as the alarms blared loudly, red lights flashing. To make matters worse, the men were already searching for whoever had caused the mess.
Oscar was surprised to see the door open, but there was no time to question the security of the place. He simply sprinted toward the exit as fast as he could—which, given his physical condition, was quite fast.
As soon as they were out of the building, more guards were already heading their way, so they had no choice but to keep running for their lives.
"I can't keep up, Oscar!" the girl complained, trying with all her might to match her best friend's pace. "Oscar!"
He knew he couldn’t leave her behind—he never would—but he also knew they had to keep running, or things would end very badly for both of them. Without much thought, Oscar figured out a way to get Lily onto his back. He reasoned that if he had the strength to drive a car at over three hundred kilometers per hour, he also had the strength to run a few meters with his friend on him.
He tried to go as fast as he could and managed to get out of the building. Lily clung to him with all her strength and tried to move as little as possible to avoid making it harder for her friend.
They finally reached the park in front of the building, and Oscar quickly set Lily down, immediately taking off the pink leather jacket she was wearing.
"What are you doing?" the brunette asked, looking at him as if he had lost his mind. That reaction only intensified when he threw the jacket into a trash bin. "OSCAR!"
"We need to avoid being recognized, and this is our only chance."
He pulled up the hood of the sweatshirt she was wearing and quickly tucked her hair inside to hide the pink strands that would immediately stand out.
He himself took off the McLaren cap he was wearing and tossed it into the bin, internally apologizing to his team for doing so. Then, he took off his black jacket, leaving only his sweatshirt.
"We'll stop running, okay?" Lily nodded. "Come on."
Oscar intertwined their hands and started walking slowly through the park.
Lily’s heart started pounding even harder than when they had been running. It was the first time Oscar held her hand like that, and even though she knew it didn’t mean anything—they were practically running for their lives—she couldn’t help feeling the nervousness that everyone experiences when getting that kind of closeness with the person they like.
Lily remained very attentive to the people following them and grew even more anxious when she noticed the guards arriving at the park. Instinctively, she squeezed Oscar’s hand, and he looked in the direction she was staring.
"Relax, they haven’t seen us," he assured her in a low voice. "Act like we're talking about anything."
"Anything?"
The girl’s eyes kept darting nervously to the guards, who had already split up to search for them. Oscar knew that any suspicious behavior would give them away, so he stopped walking and held Lily’s face in both hands.
"We’re going to stay like this until they leave, okay?" The brunette nodded awkwardly, staring at him. She was too nervous about the situation, so she let out a small laugh, making Oscar frown. "What?"
"I don’t know, I’m just nervous," she said between little giggles, which ended up making Oscar laugh too, even though he was still holding her face. "Sorry."
The boy subtly glanced around and scanned their surroundings. He let out a relieved sigh when he noticed that the guards had already left.
"One day, you’re going to get us killed, Lily Morgan," he commented, letting go of her.
"That won’t happen because you’ll always be there to save us," she said, pretending she hadn’t been scared of being chased. "We should go home before I get us into more trouble."
Oscar nodded gently and then sighed again, trying to calm the nerves that had overtaken him a few minutes ago.
"Yeah, let’s go home."

AS THEY WALKED BACK HOME, Lily didn’t stop apologizing for almost getting them into a huge problem, but Oscar kept trying to reassure her, saying that nothing serious had happened and that they were both completely fine. Though it took some effort, he eventually convinced her that he wasn’t mad at her.
“You threw away my jacket,” the brunette casually pointed out, making a face.
Oscar looked at her, feeling utterly guilty because he knew how much Lily loved her pink leather jacket. In the heat of the moment, he hadn’t thought clearly, but now that he remembered, he felt like the worst friend in the entire universe.
“I swear I’ll buy you another one,” he apologized, looking at her as if he were begging. “I didn’t think too much, I just acted. Do you forgive me?”
“Yes, I forgive you, but I’m going to need that jacket back,” she warned, pointing a finger at him. Oscar nodded. “Do you think we could find a pink jacket that says ‘McLaren’? I don’t really like orange.”
“I can get one for you if you promise to come to a race after the summer break.”
Lily made a face. She wasn’t a fan of media attention, and knowing the world her best friend lived in, she was well aware that stepping into it would put her in the spotlight of hundreds of people already closely watching Oscar.
Oscar didn’t mind that Lily didn’t attend the races because he knew she watched every single one. However, he’d be lying if he said he wouldn’t love to see her supporting him in the paddock, wearing an orange T-shirt or a cap with the number 81.
“I don’t know…”
“I know you feel like everyone will be staring at you,” Oscar started walking backward, looking at her while pretending to take pictures with an imaginary camera. “But in reality, they’ll all be looking at me, the star of the moment.”
Lily rolled her eyes, unable to hold back the laughter that immediately escaped her lips.
“Think about it, Lils,” Oscar spoke again, this time taking a more serious tone. “You’re about to graduate. Soon, you’ll be one of the best electromechanical engineers the world has ever seen. Wouldn’t you like to have connections that could get you good job interviews?”
“You’re my connection, Ozzy,” she clarified.
“I’m sure that if you walk into any racing team and talk to someone for a moment, they’ll adore you. And when you show them how smart you are, they’ll want to hire you.”
“You think so?” she asked, feeling a little unsure but considering his words.
“Of course!” he exclaimed, completely confident. “I just have to say, ‘This is my friend Lily,’ and your knowledge and charm will do the rest.”
A barely visible blush appeared on Lily’s face. Of course, Oscar noticed—he knew her perfectly, and it brought a small, nervous smile to his lips.
“Well… I’ll think about it. Maybe I’ll go to one of your races,” she nodded, making Oscar’s expectations soar. “Do you really think I’m the smartest person in the world?”
“Absolutely. Do you doubt it?”
“I don’t doubt that I’m smart… but there are surely much smarter people. What about Tony Stark? He’s a genius and a superhero.”
“Weren’t you the one who won a scholarship from Stark Industries?”
“So what?”
“That man’s ego is massive, Lils. And in the report he wrote for your university, he said you were the greatest genius of your generation. He praised your brain so much that I was afraid he’d want to run a hundred tests on you to figure out why you’re so smart.”
Lily burst into laughter, shaking her head, feeling a bit shy as she clearly remembered some of her interactions with the billionaire.
“Believe me, you’re incredibly smart,” he repeated. “That’s why you stuck with engineering, and I went into racing.” He shrugged.
“Maybe one day, I’ll design the cars you drive.”
“Nothing would make me happier.” The smile on Oscar’s face was pure pride. “That’s why you have to come to my races—if the McLaren executives are smart, they’ll offer you a position.”
“And if they’re not?”
“Then I’ll have to beg for a seat on whatever team hires you,” he said simply, still smiling. “It’s obvious that car would be a rocket, so I’d rather be on your team than compete against a car you built.”
The sun had started to set over Melbourne by the time they reached Lily’s house, which wasn’t far from Oscar’s. The sunset was their signal to return home—especially for Lily, whose father wouldn’t let her stay out any later. And Oscar would never dare challenge the chief of police.
“This is our stop,” Piastri said, halting in front of her door.
“Again, thank you for saving me back there,” she said, smiling.
“Oh, don’t thank me, it’s an everyday thing,” Lily laughed. “Do you have anything to do tomorrow? I wanted to check out that new café.”
“The one with the neon lights?” Oscar nodded. “I don’t have any plans for tomorrow.”
“Then I’ll pick you up early.”
“Deal.”
Lily rang the doorbell of her house, and her father opened the door almost immediately.
“Good evening, Mr. Morgan,” Oscar greeted, just as nervous as the first time he had met him.
“Hello, Oscar. Are you staying for dinner?”
“I’d love to, but I promised my sisters I’d have dinner with them,” he apologized, feeling a bit guilty.
“No problem. We’ll see you tomorrow then,” Mr. Morgan said with a smile.
Oscar nodded, and the man smiled at him. “Thanks for bringing Lily home.”
“No need to thank me, it’s an everyday thing,” Oscar replied, glancing at Lily before winking playfully. “See you tomorrow.”

THERE WAS SOMETHING VERY STRANGE ABOUT HIM. He didn’t know what it was, but right after dinner, he had started feeling terribly unwell. His body was trembling slightly as if he were cold. He feared he might be coming down with a fever, and since he didn’t want to worry his mother, he decided it was best to retreat to his room. Once there, he took his temperature and noticed that, in reality, it was a few degrees lower than normal.
His head ached, and his body felt numb in a way he had never experienced before—almost as if his muscles were deteriorating by the second. He wondered if it was because he had run quite a distance while carrying Lily on his back, but that would be ridiculous. His training sessions were far more demanding than that, so it didn’t make any sense.
He decided that a hot bath would probably help him relax. He’d take an ibuprofen before bed, and by the next morning, he’d feel as good as new.
As he was undressing, he noticed something fall to the floor when he took off his shirt. Out of curiosity, he bent down to pick it up, and his stomach dropped when he realized what he was holding between his fingers—it was a spider. A dead one, but that didn’t make it any less terrifying, especially because it was a type of spider he had never seen before. And that was saying a lot, considering he had encountered some of the most horrifying arachnids in the world—after all, he lived in Australia.
It was bright orange, with some gray and black spots. Oscar immediately recalled the number of insects and spiders he had seen in those tubes earlier that afternoon. He also remembered how some of the tubes had fallen onto his back when he had tried to protect Lily.
He rushed back to his room, searching for a small container to store the spider. Once he found one, he locked himself in the bathroom again, placed the container on the counter, and immediately began inspecting his body for any bites. He found one almost instantly—on the right side of his neck.
It was barely noticeable, just a small red bump that didn’t look alarming. It didn’t even itch, but Oscar was starting to wonder if the spider had been venomous and if he was currently dying. He took a deep breath, trying to calm himself, and looked in the mirror.
He did feel bad, but not to the point of being on his deathbed—it was more like the onset of a bad flu.
"It’s not that big of a deal," he murmured as he finished undressing. "You’re not dying."
Slowly, he sank into the hot water, shivering at the contrast between the warmth and his cold skin. Once submerged up to his neck, he closed his eyes, thinking it was only for a few seconds.
The heaviness in his body returned, and sleep began to overtake him. In his drowsy state, he had visions of tiny spiders crawling up his body, slowly making their way to his face, covering it completely until he could no longer breathe.
Oscar gasped for air, waking up abruptly as he flailed his arms, desperately trying to shake off the suffocating sensation. The feeling of the spiders crawling on his skin was unbearable.
Finally, he opened his eyes and found himself back in the bathroom.
The water was ice cold, a clear sign that he had been in there for a while—something that definitely puzzled him, as it had felt like only a few seconds had passed.
He climbed out of the bathtub and quickly wrapped himself in his robe. The first thing he did was grab his phone to check the time.
It was around 3:40 a.m.
When Oscar had gotten into the bath, it had only been nine in the evening.
It was impossible that he had slept for that long.
It was impossible that he had slept for that long in the bathtub.
His stomach growled—he was starving, which was strange because he had eaten plenty at dinner. When it growled a second time, he decided to head to the kitchen and rummage through the fridge.
The meat pie his mother had made for dinner—of which there had been plenty of leftovers—looked way too appetizing, and he didn’t care that it was cold. He devoured every last bit of it.
"Oscar?" His mother’s voice caught his attention. "What are you doing awake, honey?"
"I was hungry," he replied, his mouth still full of food. "I wasn’t feeling well."
"Alright." Nicole ran a hand over her face. "God, you scared me."
The woman walked over to her eldest son and placed a hand on his forehead, nodding softly as she confirmed he didn’t have a fever.
"Why don’t you go back to bed, Os? If you still feel sick in the morning, we’ll go to the doctor right away, alright?"
"Alright, Mom," he whispered, closing the fridge and clumsily wiping his mouth with a napkin. "Sorry for waking you, ma.”
Oscar pressed a quick kiss to his mother’s hair before shuffling back to his room, his feet dragging with every step. His body still felt heavy, but at least the headache was gone.
He pulled back the covers and slipped under them, immediately feeling at ease. Closing his eyes, he let himself sink into the warmth of his bed.
He fell asleep almost as soon as his head hit the pillow, completely unaware of what was happening inside him.

redid this old thing w just the slightest design tweaks :]
ALSO I ACTUALLY HAVE. PROPER LORE FOR HIM PLS IGNORE THE OLD POST I HAD NOT PROPERLY ESTABLISHED EARTH-6275 AT THAT POINT..HERE IS HIS TIMELINE:
[1991] Born to parents Michael and Riley Gargan in Sydney. Both parents only graduated with a high school degree, and work in a fish market. They save up for their son's education. [2009] Mac enters university to study to become a chemistry teacher. Excels in teaching, above average in chemistry. [2013] Pushes his degree further into a Masters while volunteering at a local high school to gain experience with students (he's already got practical assignments from university, but Mac likes the extra experience). [2015] Graduates, manages to secure a job at a university in Melbourne. Mac has to move from Sydney, his parents couldn't be more proud of him. He spends the rest of his years employed there, being known as the most enthusiastic and friendliest teacher in the school. He often sends money back home to his parents. [Late 2022] Mac gets a letter from his parents mentioning their financial struggles, which confused him considering how much money he'd been sending every month but he still wanted to help. It sounded dire, and he wasn't making enough to cover the debt the letter talked about so he needed to find another way to help. He spotted a newspaper ad calling for test subjects for a government experiment, promising big bucks. The amount was more than enough to help his parents, so Mac signed up. [Mid-2023] Missing for months from teaching, Mac re-emerged as someone entirely different. Scorpion. A fighter, a dangerous enemy. An equal to the Spiders. An unstable man. A compassionate man. Trapped in Scorpion. Mind broken.

https://www.science.org/content/article/type-hormone-therapy-may-determine-whether-trans-men-continue-menstruate
If you haven't been to science.org in the past month you should get one free article and be able to read it. Also if you turn off Javascript, there will be what looks like the blocking banner, but you can scroll down and read it all. Key takeaway from this preliminary study:
A new study suggests the type of hormone replacement therapy (HRT) may be key. People using a gel or cream were 10 times as likely to continue to menstruate than those receiving injections, researchers report this month in the International Journal of Transgender Health.
Not too long though, full thing below the cut. And here is the link to the actual paper, open access: https://www.tandfonline.com/doi/full/10.1080/26895269.2024.2403140
Taking testosterone can help transgender men gain “masculine” traits: hairier bodies, deeper voices, and no more menstruation. However, for some trans men, menstruation continues during such treatment, a symptom called “persistent menstruation.” The reasons for this are poorly understood by both researchers and clinicians.
A new study suggests the type of hormone replacement therapy (HRT) may be key. People using a gel or cream were 10 times as likely to continue to menstruate than those receiving injections, researchers report this month in the International Journal of Transgender Health. The work could better help those with gender dysphoria—the mismatch between a person’s gender identity and the one they were assigned at birth.
“Previous data has been mixed about the relative impact of dosage, serum testosterone levels, and route of administration on cessation of menstruation,” says Andrew Fisher, executive director of the Trans CARE program at the University of Chicago, who was not affiliated with the study. “These researchers’ contribution to the literature adds to a growing body of knowledge that will eventually allow clinicians greater ability to tailor [HRT] to individual needs.”
The new research is part of TRANSform, a trans-led study in Australia that tracks the health of trans people ages 16 or older, focusing on topics the community has questions about, such as gynecological care for trans men. Researchers led by sexologist Sav Zwickl and endocrinologist Ada Cheung of the University of Melbourne collected survey data from transmasculine people who were being followed for pelvic pain. The researchers examined data related to the type and length of HRT and experiences of menstruation before and after beginning the therapy. If participants were on HRT for more than 6 months or didn’t experience menstruation before starting the treatment, they were excluded from the study.
The team selected 401 participants ranging from ages 16 to 62, with a median age of 27. Five participants reported themselves as intersex, meaning they had a variation of sex characteristics that didn’t fall into typical male or female classifications.
The age that participants began taking HRT and menstrual regularity prior to taking HRT didn’t matter—what did was the way they took medication. Testosterone HRT is typically offered as either injections or as gels or creams rubbed onto the skin daily. Consistently taking testosterone usually results in stopping periods by the 6-month mark. Although nearly 23% of the participants continued to menstruate after 6 months of HRT, those using gel or cream were 10 times more likely to have persistent menstruation than those taking injections.
The findings could help trans people and their clinicians make decisions about their treatment plan, Cheung says. The work, she adds, is especially important for those interested in halting their menstrual cycle, which contributes to gender dysphoria and distress for many.
Still, more experiments will be needed to confirm the results, Cheung and Zwickl say. Future clinical studies should test the blood serum levels of testosterone rather than relying on survey responses, they say. “The survey nature of this means it’s self-reported,” Zwickl says. “For those taking testosterone for longer, it might mean recollections of when their period stopped and their dosages aren’t entirely accurate.”
Fisher also notes that Australia and Europe use long-acting testosterone, which is chemically different than the testosterone therapies used in other countries including the United States and parts of South America. As such, he says, it’s unclear whether the results of the new study apply globally.
Still, Zwickl says the study is a good first step. They say the high response rate to the survey and the rapport the research group has built with the trans community in Australia allowed the team to be able to conduct such a large study in the first place.
“The field of trans study is in its infancy,” Cheung adds. “It’s useful for trans people to have these studies, to know what to expect from their treatments. And hopefully we’ll continue to build our knowledge base in this area.”

god i feel like i haven’t done a journal entry in ages. so much has changed, for starters, im in love with someone, and im in a relationship with them. and im nearly done with university. i have a job(ish), and some extremely engaging projects. there’s a lot of really good things happening in my life. and even the worst things are good. like the stuff i’ve been struggling with the most is just adhd struggles and the older i get the better i get at managing them and making piece with what i can’t manage. my heart is full. i’m doing well. my friends are doing well too. my home country just got rid of its tyrant dictator and government and is rebuilding itself and i couldn’t be more proud of my people. i feel older. and it’s the best feeling. it’s like i have a bigger perspective than my problems. i can see beyond my current misery and it’s been very easy to have hope and love. now i know all this is heavily due to my significant other helping me and being there for me and loving me. but also the effects this person has on me will last even if this relationship doesn’t. my little sister’s becoming an adult. my mother’s following her passions. my nanu’s happy too. and i’m looking forward to cutting ties with my father as soon as i graduate. in this horrible world, right now im experiencing a moment of peace and joy. i know things will fall apart eventually and i’ll have to deal with it until my next little pocket of happiness. but i can do that. all it takes is love and patience.
what worries me most is whether or not i can find enough success in fashion that i could stay in melbourne and not have to go back to dhaka. or even regardless of where i am, im scared i’m not good enough. cool enough or skilled enough to work in fashion. i often doubt i have the skills to succeed in anything at all. these fears are not reasonable but they’re not unreasonable either? like the truth is that i do have the creativity and i have a lot of skills but i might lack the discipline or the literal physical ability to do what is required of me. my adhd makes me too fast and too slow. im too sleepy to elaborate further. i hate bureaucracy and corporate jargon also. and i hate paperwork. and insurance stuff and invoices. i hate it with a passion. i need to do it more and more the older i get. anyway, im about to turn in my last assignment for this trimester tomorrow night and i haven’t even done half of it. until next time.

FUCK YOU MEAN YOU MET WITH A CULT?????????? DUDE??????
well i don't want to bore anyone, but long story short, on my way to class today there were these two women who stopped me in the middle of the street and asked me some pretty innocuous questions, posing it as a "university assignment." some red flags went off mid-convo because i noticed neither of them were writing anything down or taking any notes, which you should be doing for an assignment or survey or whatever the hell, especially if you're doing street interviews? they weren't even filming me with a camera to record my answers and i thought that was pretty strange.
but they asked to meet up at a nearby shopping mall after school and i agreed, thinking i would just be helping these two women complete a uni assignment. i couldn't ignore the feeling that something was up though, and i was visibly on edge. my lecturer noticed this and i spoke with them about it, and they encouraged me to look it up, because unbeknownst to me, apparently there have been a lot of well known cults operating in melbourne? so i did, and y'all, it was really fucking bad. i was literally trembling lol
i called someone i trusted to take me back home and i was shaking so much. i don't think i've ever shaken that much in my life. this is going to sound crazy but i literally had no idea a person could tremble like that. like i thought it was only in movies and shit.
this is only the short version btw. it's a lot longer but like if anyone else wants to know more i can either make another post or just message you or something. i don't know, i feel stupid talking about it, like i blame myself for engaging with them lmao
PS: for anyone who lives in melbourne or regularly travels to the city (obviously in melbourne) be wary of these people. apparently they belong to an australian branch of a south korean cult, the shincheonji church of jesus. scary shit. i literally fucking cried on the way home with the person who escorted me there. if you look up "melbourne cult reddit" you can probably find more info about it. just bc ik i have a few ppl following me also living in victoria
#thank god for rammstein bc i was listening to them on the way home. man fuck they definitely helped#because listening to angry german music helped distract me from bursting into tears and sobbing wailing on the commute home#mom jeg is posting again#asks

QAOA For Traffic Jams: A Hybrid Quantum Algorithm Approach

Recent research considers hybrid quantum algorithms, notably QAOA, to solve traffic congestion through optimised route planning.
In an arXiv post, Ford Motor Company and University of Melbourne researchers proved that a hybrid quantum algorithm may minimise traffic bottlenecks. Despite noisy hardware and limited circuit depth, their solution outperformed quantum methods on current real-world CPUs.
The paper examines the Quantum Approximate Optimisation Algorithm (QAOA), a potential quantum tool. In optimisation circumstances, QAOA is ideal for finding the best answer among numerous possibilities. It works effectively for city traffic management to reduce highway congestion.
Researchers created a mathematical Quadratic Unconstrained Binary Optimisation (QUBO) model to solve the traffic problem. They created variables that represent each vehicle's probable pathways and assigned a cost that climbs when more vehicles utilise the same road stretch. This model accommodates real-world constraints including the necessity for each car to travel exactly one route and penalises busy routes to prevent overlap. We get a cost function that QAOA can solve and map onto a quantum system.
Team writes: “By defining decision variables that correspond to each car's route, the problem of reducing road congestion can be modelled as a binary combinatorial optimisation problem.” We offered each car a list of possible routes from its starting point to its goal. Routes are walkways with road-like borders. Every route begins and ends at the origin and destination nodes, which were always intersections for simplicity.
Using QAOA for Cheap Solutions
The group utilised QAOA to find cheap fixes after encoding. QAOA circuits use alternating layers of quantum gates and need precise parameter adjustments. Optimising these features is difficult, especially with noise. A major contribution of the work was evaluating precomputed values, random estimates, and quantum annealing-influenced approaches for initialising these parameters.
Trotterized Quantum Annealing (TQA) outperformed conventional initialisation approaches. Since it models the system's steady progression from basic to sophisticated, TQA often yields better results than random starting. The researchers also found that precalculated parameters from simulations of similar traffic circumstances often yielded results virtually as good as fully optimised trials at a far lower processing cost.
Make Noise
After verifying their technique in simulations, the researchers ran their QAOA circuits on IBM quantum hardware. Noise and hardware limits limited performance as expected. Standard QAOA circuits need two-qubit operations between qubits that may not be physically linked on the semiconductor. To fix this, devices utilise “SWAP” gates to shuffle data among qubits, but this adds overhead and inaccuracy.
To avoid SWAP operations in two-qubit gates, the researchers created Connectivity-Forced QAOA (CF-QAOA). Despite changing the quantum circuit and presumably diminishing its precision, eliminating these gates enhanced noisy device performance.
They added greater customisability to CF-maQAOA, a second version that compensates for missing gates. This strategy outperformed traditional optimisation in practice while being more sophisticated.
The researchers also examined how their strategy develops with the challenge. QAOA was compared against Gurobi, a commercial classical solver known for its optimisation performance. When there were more cars and variables, standard QAOA ran slower than Gurobi. The CF-QAOA technique showed comparable scaling patterns after noise correction.
Work to Come
Using quantum computers to minimise traffic congestion may lower the environmental impact of idle cars and help always-late people make their appointments.
Due to quantum gear constraints, the research acknowledges that these developments won't improve matters in the future. Deep circuits create too much noise, and even little qubit connection changes can affect findings. Further study is needed to establish if improved compression approaches may retain performance while reducing complexity and how circuit simplifications influence quantum properties like entanglement.
The study concludes that hybrid quantum optimisation is effective for traffic control. By adjusting algorithms to hardware restrictions and accepting approximate answers, the researchers demonstrate that quantum computing can develop even in the noisy, pre-error-corrected period.
The University of Melbourne established an IBM Quantum Network Hub to aid this effort.

Top Reasons Why International Students Rely on Assignment Services

Australia is a top destination for international students, offering world-class education and diverse career opportunities. However, studying in a new country comes with challenges. Imagine you’re an international student in Australia, balancing classes, a part-time job, and adapting to a new culture. Your professor assigns a complex essay, but you’re struggling with academic writing, formatting, and deadlines. You think, “Can someone write my assignment in Australia?”
If this sounds familiar, you are not alone. Many international students turn to professional assignment services for help. The academic workload, language barriers, and unfamiliar coursework can make it difficult to keep up. This is why reliable assignment writing services have become a lifesaver. Let’s explore why students rely on them.
1. How Do Assignment Services Help with Academic Pressure?
University coursework can be overwhelming, especially for international students managing multiple subjects. Assignment services help by:
✅ Providing Expert Assistance – Professionals with subject expertise guide students through difficult topics. ✅ Ensuring Timely Submissions – Students can meet strict deadlines without last-minute stress. ✅ Reducing Stress and Anxiety – Academic support allows students to focus on learning rather than panicking over deadlines.
For example, a student studying in Sydney might need to submit a detailed research paper on Australian environmental policies. With expert guidance, they can submit a well-researched and properly formatted assignment on time.
2. Why Is Language a Barrier for Many International Students?
For many international students, language proficiency is one of the biggest challenges in Australian universities. While they may have a good grasp of spoken English, academic writing follows a completely different set of rules. It requires formal tone, structured arguments, and precise grammar, which can be difficult for non-native English speakers.
Imagine a student from China studying business in Melbourne. They understand the concepts well and can explain them in conversation, but when it comes to writing a persuasive essay, they struggle with:
Grammar and sentence structure – Academic writing requires complex sentence formations, correct verb usage, and proper punctuation. Small mistakes can affect readability and reduce marks.
Vocabulary and word choice – Using the right words is crucial for clarity. Certain phrases may sound natural in conversation but seem informal in a formal paper.
Academic tone and style – Universities expect assignments to follow a professional, objective, and structured format, which can be difficult to master.
Referencing and citations – Incorrectly citing sources can lead to plagiarism issues, which may have severe consequences for a student's academic record.
3. How Do Assignment Services Save Time for Busy Students?
International students often juggle academics, part-time jobs, and social commitments. Managing everything efficiently can be difficult. Assignment services offer:
✅ Time Management – Students can balance studies and work without missing deadlines. ✅ Fast Turnaround for Urgent Tasks – Some services deliver assignments within 24 hours. ✅ Customised Support – Students can request specific sections or entire assignments based on their needs.
For instance, a student working at a café in Brisbane might have limited time to complete a marketing report. By using an assignment service, they can get professional assistance while focusing on their job.
4. Can Assignment Services Improve Grades?
Many international students in Australia aim for high grades but struggle with meeting academic standards. Universities have strict guidelines regarding research depth, writing quality, and formatting, which can be challenging for students who are still adjusting to the system.
For example, a student pursuing engineering in Perth may excel in technical concepts but struggle with structuring a research paper or following strict citation rules. Without proper guidance, their assignment might lack clarity, organization, or academic depth. This is where professional assignment services become invaluable.
How Professional Writers Support Academic Success

Web Design in Melbourne: Guide to Build an Educational Website
Designing an educational website for a resource portal, a school, university, or an online learning platform requires strong knowledge. If your brain jumps from left to right thinking about quality designs, you can safely believe that there are many other administrators who are on the same page.
Every educational institute or online learning platform is unique in what they bring to the learners. Whether it is more comprehensive resources, personalized attention, or guaranteed results, you would surely want to understand the web design goals that make a learning experience easy and engaging. But how to achieve them all?

In this blog, we will explore 5 essential web design features that you must consider in a professional web design in Melbourne for a functional educational website.
5 Must-Have Web Design Features for an Educational Website
Here are five most crucial web design qualities and features that make an educational portal, institution, or, an e-learning platform engaging.
1. User-Friendly Menus
When planning a website menu layout with a website designer, focus on creating simple and easy to find menus. Focus on keeping only the main links like Courses, Admissions, About Us, Gallery, or Contact Us page. When choosing a layout, hamburger-style menus and sticky navigation bars can make them easily appear on smaller screens.
User experience is the crucial factor. It is important to choose one of the best professionals for web design in Melbourne who ensure that the website menu colors, fonts, alignment, and style helps users to find the information.
2. Responsive Design for Mobiles and Tablets
Teachers and students use their tablets or mobile devices to browse educational websites or e-learning platforms. If they find it difficult to read the content on your website or explore the website without zooming in, they will move on.
For this reason, it is crucial to use responsive frameworks when designing a website. Commonly used web design frameworks like Bootstrap and Foundation allow a website to automatically adjust to the smaller screens. These feature one-column grids, in-built sliders, buttons, forms, and carousels, and media queries that perform well on different devices.
If you are not aware of the technicalities, it is good to consider a professional for SEO in Geelong for high-performing frameworks.
3. Integrate Multiple Media
Next, multimedia tools are another effective and popular way to make education fun and engaging for both educators and learners. As long as your students and educators get access to different audio and visual learning modules, your website performs well.
Video lectures, podcasts, quizzes, or other interactive forums are highly becoming resourceful additions on an educational website. Keeping aside the traditional listen-only concepts, these tools allow learners to interact through quizzes, ask questions, use clickable annotations, or jump to specific sections on podcasts.
You can even include downloadable PDFs and worksheets, or reading lists to let users learn the study materials at their own pace. Remember, integrating media can reduce website speed, so an SEO expert in Geelong is helpful in optimizing the speed.
4. Use Learning Management Platform Within the Website
An educational website must have a highly-organized and user-centric learning management tool. It allows learners to find the different study materials, submit assignments, and view grades at one place. And it also enables teachers and providers to track student progress, answer their questions, and interact about upcoming events.
While choosing a Learning Management System (LMS), keep in mind the existing website structure. A sign of a good LMS platform is its easy integration, drag-and-drop dashboard, customization features, and technical support features. Web design companies also help you to choose the best platform that stands true and right to these qualities.
5. Secure Registration and Enrollments
Lastly, safe and easy-to-use registration and enrollment forms complete an educational website. If you are just starting, handle this task to an expert SEO in Geelong.
If you are creating a website for school or colleges, structure the registration form with essential and autofill options. Clear instructions and examples in the input fields can make a big difference. Including error validation and progress indicators will allow learners to correct their mistakes and know how far they have come.
In addition, if you are creating an online learning platform, using secure payment gateways with confirmation messages makes the site safe.
Final Words
We hope you found this blog useful. Designing an educational web design in Melbourne or Geelong takes time as you are considering user experience, user interface, and website security as a goal to fulfill both learners and educators needs.
Whether you are a chancellor, president, or an e-learning educator designing a website, it is wise to invest in a professional company. They have a team of best website designers in both locations to plan, guide, and initiate the best process.
