its actually so funny how no one gaf abt ken's suɪ attempt, like they all suspect the pool incident was intentional, but you honestly wouldn't know it from how little gravity they gave it.
which is funny in context of the show's following big incidents, but i think the sibling intervention really highlights the new-found sensitivity the siblings gained after logan's passing, and how ken conversely latched onto waystar as his solace.

Thinking again abt how it’s funny that Shiv and Stewy both are so self centered (affectionate. Of course) and yet share names w iconic religious martyrs. Siobhan being a cognate for Joan, with a clear connection to Joan of Arc, and Hosseini meaning Of Hossein being derived from Imam Hussein.
Like the mice thing, the parallel is obviously unintentional (although obviously the way Logan uses names and identities as a weapon for control is obviously not unintentional), but it’s fucking weird it happened twice!

so kendall has dealt with pretty severe anxiety for most of his life because that’s what happens when logan roy is your fucking dad. another thing that happens when logan roy is your fucking dad is getting told not to “be a fucking pansy” when you go to him showing symptoms of pretty severe anxiety. i think kendall learned young that the only way he could get attention when he wasn’t feeling well was to claim physical illness, which actually makes logan tend to him rather quickly (kendall isn’t aware, at this age, of what happened to rose, but he does know that his father is aggressively invested in keeping his children free of sickness). ten-year-old kendall felt like he was being clever, not knowing that, at forty, he would stop being able to distinguish between physical discomfort and mental anguish. the week after the vote of no confidence, kendall thought he had the flu; he didn’t, he was depressed. there’s a bunch of sandy-frank-karl-era acquaintances of logan’s who all think of kendall as “logan’s boy who’s always ill.” a couple of people (rava, stewy, siobhan) know that kendall is this way, but they can’t do anything about it because kendall denies ever having lied about being sick whenever anyone points it out.

just wanted to thank you everyone for being a part of this blog… “big things to come soon”
#i am proud and happy about it because this blog came from my moving blogs in 2021#and on my past blog i had about 1000 followers so it’s like i finally regained that reach#which i’m specifically excited by because this blog (contrary to my previous one) is ONLY about the witcher books with no n*tflix talk#like ik ohhh ‘you are a fandom blog you have no rights’ but it makes me happy that we’re all gathered here together for the same thing :)#i don’t think fandom has to be an inherently toxic or immature space i think it can be a meaningful place of discussion and participation#the elbow-high diaries#updates#it’s kind of an interesting thing the witcher books fandom in english in the 2020s i am really very curious where it goes from here#it’s interesting to me because it’s such a specific and unique situation of media spread#it’s not like the witcher is unpopular or indie—it’s extremely popular. a mass pop culture phenomenon#at the same time the english-speaking (and in my case specifically american) fandom is primarily built around tw3 and then now n*tflix#even if the books were read and successful in the english market i mean they did not have the same kind of cultural impact#so it’s particularly of interest to me to boost visibility and yes indeed—fandom—conversation around the witcher books#and for me i like thinking through what that looks like—#an english-speaking (including not limited to american) fandom without anglifying or americanizing it#or at the very least *trying* to not anglify or americanize it. because some amount of it is unintentional yet necessary (i.e. translation)#but even in translation for example. the kind of translation and how it’s gone about. there is potential for cultural learning and#the most faithful translations will not make total sense so as the readers you go and look for that context and learn something#all part of a larger discussion and i kind of got lost typing these tags but this is why this milestone is special to me#it shows that people are interested in what this blog posts about and that means we have a future to explore

Watchlist Tag Game!
Another unexpected tag game! This time from @waitmyturtles
Currently watching
A Boss and a Babe: Wasn't sure if I was going to watch this one because I'm not a huge fan of boss and subordinate as a positive romantic plot (looking at you GAP, sorry). But started watching it after seeing some of @respectthepetty's posts about Episode 4.
Bed Friend: If I were being accurate, I would have put this show down like four times in a row because I have rewatched all available episodes about four times, and honestly will probably watch the whole thing again. I love it so much, I do still think that Moonlight Chicken is my favorite show of the 2023 line up so far, but goddamn if I don't get overly attached to traumatized men.
Breaking Bad: Fun Fact! I have watched the first season of this show three times and never made it beyond that! So my friend set out to fix it and now we are trading one season of Breaking Bad for one show of my choice with a comparable number of episodes. Traded season one for Moonlight Chicken, and I'm trading season two and three for Word of Honor.
The Eclipse: Can't put my finger on why but for some reason I am obsessed with this show where the main character is a emotional repressed gay boy who has difficulty accepting himself and feels pressured to perform actions far outside what a teenager should be allowed to do because adults put pressure on him and because he doesn't want people to be disappointed in him...Anyway, with the Our Skyy 2 release date coming up how could I not rewatch this show I have already seen approximately six times?
The Eighth Sense: Have to thank @bengiyo for writing about The Eighth Sense, and everyone else that I follow that started watching this show immediately and started writing beautiful things about how queer it feels. It's my first Korean BL TV show (I did watch Wish You a few years back) and I am thoroughly enjoying my time so far!!
Unintentional Love Story: Don't have a lot to say about this show yet, I'm only two episodes in, but I think it's good so far!
Word of Honor: Rewatching this with my friend to try to get him to branch out of American television. I figured the costumes alone in this show would keep his interest, but let's be real, I was dying to see his reaction to my favorite little war criminal Wen Kexing who has done absolutely nothing wrong ever in his life, m'kay? This is my completely unbiased, objective opinion (do not look at my username).

Dungeons and Dragons: Honor Among Thieves: Somehow, my tumblr blog accidentally turned into a primarily BL based blog, probably but actually before I was introduced to Word of Honor and then rapidly and descended into the Thai BL world from there (I know WoH is a cdrama, but I found KinnPorsche through a masterpost of queer asian media that was on the woh tag) my hyperfixation and truest love is playing Dungeons and Dragons. I've been in a campaign for 6 years now and recently started another campaign with another group! I wanted to see this movie when it came out but I had COVID and only now am freed from my self isolation! Heard it was good and fun and worth seeing in theaters so I am hoping to go soon!
Our Skyy 2: I just miss my boys, okay? I'm only human.
Only Friends: If the fact that I have watched KinnPorsche 14 times is anything to go by I love messy bitches, and this seems like a show full of messy bitches! Any show that requires a fucking flow chart to know their relationships to one another? I'm in! Also, I listened to the playlist that Jojo posted on Spotify and I was sold. This is definitely my most anticipated of 2023.
Still deciding if I’m gonna watch
Succession: I follow at least one person who has been posting a lot about Succession as the fourth and final season airs, and it sounds really good! I was actually convinced to start the first episode but I kinda fell off of it pretty quick. I think I was tired and I know like with any show the pilot is not the episode to judge something on.
Beef: Only putting this on here because I felt compelled to look it up in the tumblr tags today just to put some feelers out.
and that's it lol, I finsihed Shadow and Bone Season 2 and The Owl House so I don't really have any other shows that I am thinking about watching at the moment. If anyone who reads these block paragraphs has suggestions I'm all ears.

reading no home.. its good. the title section the author does where the characters are slowly revealed as the arc progresses is a really interesting visual choice, as are what layers they put over what character.
#its really scratching a particular itch in that it says smth very interesting abt connection + abuse + the independence of youths#while also being fairly comedic all things considered.#but yeah im deeply intrigued by the. i dont think its unintentional but the subtle way it goes about addressing the toxicity of#the dynamic between parents/adults and children. like its not a mistake that every pov chara we've met so far (im on ch87) has faced some#form of abuse from adults. no matter how severe it is‚ it nearly always results in issues for the charas‚ which is of course the main plot#of the story. the level of normalcy‚ severity‚ who is conducting the abuse‚ what happens‚ what mental consequences it brings are all#pretty different - which again!! is the main cause of conflict!! - but its all happened. and the child protagonists are the ones who#grapple w it and support each other with it to varying degrees of success. idkkk i care very much about youth rights and its interesting#seeing something close to support for it within the story. i think the next closest example i can think of is utena. which is very direct#in its depictions of abuse and the ways adults weild power over children. idk!!! its late!!!!#selk.txt
