*sigh*
Let's do this again.
The most harmful and irreparable damage the MCU has ever done is definitely Wanda's characterization and how the "fandom" perceives her even when non-cb readers migrate to the 616 side.
Tumblr media
(This is screenshot depicting a fan reacting to Russell Dauterman's redesign of Lore, an evil Wanda variant who first debuted in 1993 in Scarlet Witch #1. She will return in the new Scarlet Witch series this year)
In addition to all the "she's always been white" constant, toxic and racist comments, which only reinforces their lack of ability to recognize issues such as colorism, Rromani representation (when they actually know the difference between Rromani and Romanian, that is) and straight-up whitewashing, they also fail to identify a most essential trait of her entire characterization: her desire to do good and become a symbol of heroism.
Wanda despises doing harm to others. Her first iteration is legitimately a depiction in which she and Pietro are being forced by Magneto to work for him and his brotherhood of evil mutants, all thanks to emotional manipulation. She never means to hurt the original X-Men except when Pietro is hurt and/or in danger. It's her protective side, not her "evil" side.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
(Uncanny X-Men v1 #4; #11)
It's also fundamental to be aware that Wanda and Pietro come from a place where there's trauma for being abused by Magneto when it comes to their powers. This is why they are hesitant to join the Avengers, and yet their sense of responsibility is stronger.
Tumblr media
(Avengers v1 #16)
Now, when it comes to Chthon, it's another rabbit hole of struggling with independence, power and agency. Being controlled by an evil force is as an old trope as any other in comic books. Still, I can't help but notice that her relationship with Chthon is never truly solved as other magic characters' issues, so why does it stick to Wanda the hardest?
Allow me illustrate with other examples:
1. Magik and the Darkchylde.
For those who don't know, the Darkchylde is "an evil side" of Illyana Rasputin, result of her captor and abuser's tampering with her soul.
The Darkchylde has several interpretations, from abuse to struggling with self-worth, and it has been established for decades as a side of Illyana that she despises, fears and suppresses.
Tumblr media
(New Mutants v1 #71)
Illyana took years to make peace with her inner self and even had an arc to leave her reigning place of power in Limbo to Madelyne, another character who was villanized by the narrative for the very same reasons. Which begs the question.... why would a fan root for the Darkchylde to be her standard self when this is precisely what she hates the most? When it's precisely what causes her pain and leads her to a process of isolation and unhealthy behavior?
2. Doctor Strange and dark magic
Throughout sixty years of stories, there are a few moments in which the Sorcerer Supreme is faced with the old dilemma if he should use dark magic or not. And yet, from everything he went through, even in his darkest moments, he still chooses to do good. This is an intrinsic part of him. Yes, we've seen alternate evil iterations, but the main version is still a recognized, praised character for all the good deeds he performs on a daily basis.
Tumblr media
(New Avengers v3 Annual #1)
3. Loki against fate
Tumblr media
(Immortal Thor #2)
Loki's most recent and important journey throughout the years is precisely changing their fate, from the god of mischief and lies to the god of stories. They know they also have antagonistic roles to play as such, and yet they look forward to building a better relationship with Thor and the Asgardians. They're as complex as they come, but never back to their first and oldest iteration.
--
There are others, of course, like Nico Minoru and the Staff of One, Daimon Hellstrom and his will to deny his father's desires etc etc. I can even point a famous non-magical one: THE HULK. Yep, the guy who has spent his entire existence struggling with said dichotomy.
So you see, this is not a situation where "women can't be villains, god forbid women do anything" like some of them love to claim. You have Amora, Morgan Le Fey, Umar, even Lore now. The fact is, the MCU pushed the main version of its Wanda to be an irremediable character. Fans may or not defend her actions, but the truth is, they went too far for a role of opposition/antagonism justified by mental issues, which is yet another problematic, hellish rabbit role that we discussed so many times, over and over and over.
House of M is by itself such a harmful event in Wanda's entire characterization that, even now in the 616 universe, she still struggles to be (re)accepted by the hero community. She's still demonized by mutants, she's still depicted as mentally unstable.
Tumblr media
(X-Men #7 - 2019)
Meanwhile, few writers are doing their hardest to give her some independence and agency (praised be Orlando and McKay). She has finally showcased her resolve to deal with Chthon by absorbing the Darkhold. She finally built a place to help people in a small community. She's an avenger yet again.
Tumblr media
(Darkhold: Omega #1)
However, despite all that, she's still being patronized and lectured on (for instance, Agatha trying to take the Darkhold from her).
Tumblr media
(Scarlet Witch v3 Annual #1)
The fact that she hasn't given up on the role of super hero only showcases how fundamental, intrinsic, unshakeable is her desire to do good. The fact that she's a nexus being and that the Scarlet Witch is a role passed down through generations are enough reasons to reiterate how important she is as a defender of the universe, same importance we often see in the role of the Sorcerer Supreme.
Tumblr media
No fan has ever advocated for readers to be feared by a Sorcerer Supreme. Those are roles of heroes.
So yeah, "evil mother" and "serving cunt" will not do it for me. Because being evil means embracing everything Wanda hates the most and fights the hardest. So you come here and tell me that Wanda was supposed to be evil incarnate, to the point of comparing her to Voldemort, is plainly offensive and shows how little you understand her. You have other mothers to kneel to if you so desperately need one. Wanda is not one of them. Leave her alone.
TL;DR: Saying Wanda should be evil is stupid and harmful.

Hi! I was wondering if you have any recommendations for comics where Hank & Simon make an appearance together? Also where to read them, if you have that information.
Also, I love your blog, being for the 5 people who like these characters. <3
Omg hiiiiiii! Yes, I will be more than happy to write out a reading list for you! I'll do my best to compile every notable moment or issue where they get a lot of focus, unfortunately there are large gaps in things so there's a really big tone disparity between some of these issues just because of the time that's passed between them, so I'll try to give vague synopsis' when necessary about what's been going on since their last notable interactions.
Avengers V1 #151-#153, Avengers Annual #8 is Simon's resurrection after his death in his debut appearance, and is the foundation for their relationship.
Avengers V1 #160 is just generally a really important Simon issue, and there's only really one or two moments with Hank it, but I think it provides important context to why Simon is the way he is, and how much Hank learns about Simon so early on in their relationship. Hank makes Simon a costume in #161, and it's very ugly.
Avengers V1 #164, #181, #194, #197-#198 (it is imperitive you ignore the Carol arc here. don't worry about it), #201, #203, and ending with #211 are their main stint on the Avengers together, but you can read all of the issues in between these if you so choose! These are just the ones with the more notable scenes. This is the main era of Wonderbeast, and after this Simon soon gets sucked into WCA and Hank into X-Factor and eventually the X-Men proper. There's a few random issues here and there, but we don't get a proper reunion until...
Wonder Man V2 #5-#6, post WCA, in Simon's asshole era. Hank also appears in both Annuals, and in #23-#25 where Simon goes to biblical hell, don't worry about it.
Avengers V3 #14 is their next meeting, after Simon has died in Force Works #1 and Hank grieved for him at his funeral in Tales of the Marvels: Wonder Years. Good issue!
Avengers Two: Wonder Man and the Beast
Their next major appearance together won't be until Avengers V4 Annual, which is the tail end of an arc where Simon went crazy and assembled a team of superheroes to like take down the Avengers or whatever. Don't worry about it.
A+X #12 deals with the fallout of the above. That's +, not vs.
Uncanny Avengers V3 #28
X-Force V6 #49-#50, this is in Hank's evil war crimes era, or more accurately, signals the end of it, and these issues permanently change my brain chemistry. Genuinely insane stuff. I won't spoil anything if this is your first forey but my G-d.
Bonus! Exiles V2 #1-#6 has a Hank who canonically was in a relationship with his Wonder Man, and this series was cancelled early and you can TELL they had more planned for this iteration of the characters but alas...... we will never know :(
And I think that covers all of their major appearances! I hope you have a fun time reading, and if you want me to track down some of those minor, a little more obscure appearances, let me know! :33

Fear Itself, AVX, other random stuff
Fear Itself
I have no idea what's happening in this event so let's dive into the middle of it headfirst
Fear Itself: The Worthy #3: I think this is actually a one-shot that is for some reason listed broken up into the individual stories. The part I read is just Titania's backstory.
Fear Itself: Fearsome Four #1-4: Howard the Duck (insert emoji here that represents my intense dislike for Howard the Duck)
Also he's drawn really ugly here
Me constantly getting confused between Nighthawk and Darkhawk. I was literally like "oh since Darkhawk is being edgy now he's changed his name to Nighthawk" no... that's just Nighthawk
FRANKENSTEIN!!
Wow I hate that Jen just got immediately beaten into the ground by the AU Hulk she should be able to hold her own against him at least for a little while come on now
I assume that the main event has something to do with fear and this is actually a cool tie-in showing how the big event is affecting individuals (Man-Thing) but I have absolutely no context for it so.
I actually really like how Jen overcomes the fear scenario by carrying on when she's the one hero left standing bc perseverance is a big theme for her going back to Savage She-Hulk <3
Tumblr media
Savage She-Hulk #23
Fear Itself: The Fearless #10-12: ewww Crossbones I hate him
I have absolutely no idea how this connects to any other parts of this event that I read
idk Jen wasn't really in it, Valkyrie was cool though <3
AVX
Fun fact I think AVX was coming out when I was first getting into comics so I want you to picture little tiny baby me reading parts of this and being so unbelievably confused.
I'm still unbelievably confused.
Why is any of this necessary
New Avengers v1 #24
X-Men Legacy v1 #266-267: can they please stop manufacturing reasons for superheroes to fight each other
Uncanny X-Men v2 #12
Wolverine and the X-Men v1 #11: I like the art
Avengers v4 #28: narrated by red hulk 😐
Avengers vs. X-men #7-12: 😐
I hate events
Worth Reading
Wolverine and the X-Men v1 #17: THIS GOT ME THIS WAS FUNNY
FF v1 #11
Fantastic Four v1 #600-604
Hulk v2 #54-57: Jen and Lyra got taken out immediately in 54 and didn't come back until the end of 57 but it's still kind of fun
Girl Comics v1 #1-3: This is a fun little anthology and the creative team are all women so that's a slay, Jen isn't really in it though
Spider-Man/Fantastic Four v1 #1-4: Jen is only in the second issue but this is fun and sweet
Heroic Age: Heroes: I did not read this in full bc it's just a character guide thing but the framing of it as Captain America's files is interesting although the little story at the beginning was weird? I particularly enjoyed him calling Deadpool "undisciplined, disgusting, and not funny" and "I honestly hope this narcissistic maniac gets sucked into a black hole" so true king! tell us how you really feel!
The Iron Age #1-2: I never like Iron Man-led things but I do like time travel and this is really good actually? Jen is only in the first issue but I read #2 bc it had the F4 on the cover and it has a really well-written Johnny actually I very much enjoyed it
Not Worth Reading
Deadpool v3 #40: This wasn't worth reading but it did feature the Joker parody from Sensational She-Hulk so that's something i guess
Venom v2 #13.3-13.4: idk why these issues have decimals. anyway Jen was barely in 13.3 and not actually in 13.4 at all
Vengeance #1-6: This is bad. Jen is in it as a continuation from the Last Defenders series which was so bad I apparently didn't think it was worth mentioning in previous posts. Anyway, this is just bad.
Captain America: Hail Hydra #4: This isn't bad it's just. it did not make me want to read the other issues. Jen is also only in it as a cameo
Amazing Spider-Man v1 #692: I can't believe they let Slott write this crap for like 300 issues. Jen is only in a one panel cameo
Her-oes: this is a non-canon comic written by none other than Grace Randolph for some godforsaken reason. It's just generic teenage high school outcast story starring... Janet van Dyne? Janet is really mean to Jen, her so-called best friend, for literally no reason. it's very weird, bland, and out of character for everyone involved and also the art is ugly
Tumblr media
If you made it this far enjoy this panel of totally definitely Dr. Doom (Spider-Man/Fantastic Four v1 #1)
She-Hulk Readthrough part 2
I'm starting a new post bc the previous one was getting really long
All-New Savage She-Hulk, Fall of the Hulks, and some other random stuff
All-New Savage She-Hulk
ewwww what the fuck
Lyra I'm going to get you out of there girl
that was a cool story except for the part where she was sent back in time to FUCK NORMAN OSBORN
Fall of the Hulks
Besties I was really trying. I was reading things that Jen didn't appear in just to try to understand this event. This is the most convoluted shit imaginable. I can't keep track of who knows what. I can't keep track of who is working with who. I can't keep track of anyone's goals here. I hate this and yet I am also deeply fascinated by it.
FotH Alpha: This has the Red Ghost and the Super-Apes so I am legally required to like it
FotH Red Hulk 2: I'm so confused.
FotH Gamma: I'm unsure if anyone knows that General Ross is Red Hulk at this point so I feel like I didn't get as much out of this as I could have
Hulk v2 20: Red Hulk kills a Super-Ape :(
Hulk v2 13-24: I am really trying to understand what's going on. The way 24 explored the difference between Bruce and Ross and how they mirror each other was really cool though
Incredible Hulk v1 606-610: I'm so confused
FotH Savage She-Hulks: I really like how Jen is acting as a mother figure for Lyra since Thundra can't
Incredible Hulk v1 611: IM CRYING A LITTLE BIT THAT WAS REALLY POWERFUL
Worth Reading
Marvel Divas: this is kind of a bizarre friend group and Jen was barely in it but I liked the art and it was really sweet đŸ„ș
Wolverine v3 73-74: Jen was in 1 panel in 73 and 74 wasn't even on my reading list but for some reason, despite the fact that I don't like Wolverine, 73 intrigued me enough to read the next issue
She-Hulk: Cosmic Collision: I guess this goes here? As a Jen-centric story? But it was weird and I had a hard time following it.
Incredible Hulk v1 600: THIS FUCKED
Incredible Hulk v1 601-605: I'm enjoying the Lyra back-up story
Not Worth Reading
Mighty Avengers 22-23: SLOTT!! Also this was stupid idk
Planet Skaar Prologue: ...it vaguely reminded me of the 2001 Hulk annual...
Fantastic Four v1 569: I'm completely lost and Jen was only in 1 panel
Strange Tales v5 1-3: It is fascinating what they could publish in 2009...
Avengers vs. Atlas 3: ok this one is giving the 2001 Hulk annual and also brought up Juggernaut

Note
Hi, I saw your post about the whitewashed characters in The New Mutants film, and I hope it's not too much to ask, but I'd like to read about Karma, the Asian leader. I don't know where to start or which comics to read, you know, in their right order, and Google is only talking about the movie, so I hope you can point me to the right direction. I'm only interested in this one character, so I hope that makes it easier for you. Thank you in advance, and I wish you an amazibg day. Kisses xX
The only reading list I could find for Karma is a little outdated, so here is a quick one that includes some more recent appearances as well. Some of these are good and some... not so much (like her first appearance is very stereotypical for example.)
Marvel Team-Up v1 #100 - Spider-Man and the Fantastic Four
Marvel Graphic Novel #4 - The New Mutants
New Mutants v1 #1-6
(Possessed by the Shadow King) The New Mutants v1 #29-34
New Mutants Special Edition #1
Uncanny X-Men Annual v1 #9
New Mutants v1 #35-43
New Mutants Annual v1 #2
New Mutants v1 #44-47
Uncanny X-Men Annual v1 #10
New Mutants #48-54
Wolverine v2 #4-8
Wolverine v2 #27-30
X-Force v1 #33-34 (part of the Child’s Play crossover)
Beast #1-3
New Mutants: Truth or Death #1-3
X-Force v1 #75
Mekanix #1-6
New Mutants v2 #4-13
New X-Men v2 #4-15 (sporadically)
X-Men: Manifest Destiny #1 (she does have a featured short story, but it’s written by C. B. Cebulski...)
Uncanny X-Men v1 #501-503
New Mutants v3 #1-33 + #50
Astonishing X-Men v3 #49-68
All-New X-Men #40-41
New Mutants: Dead Souls #1-6 (fair warning though)
Uncanny X-Men v5 #12-19
War of the Realms: Uncanny X-Men #1-3
New Mutants: War Children
New Mutants v4 #1-Present
I would like to personally recommend Astonishing X-Men v3 by Marjorie Liu. If you want to jump right into that, you can! Karma doesn’t appear until #49, but you should start reading at #48 for the beginning of the story, again, if you want to.

Uncanny X-Men by Chris Claremont Reading Order
Tumblr media
With each list made I felt better about trying harder ones, but this was still the most intimidating comic reading list there is. It encompasses so many years, titles, minis, GNs and characters that I didn’t know what to bother with and what not to, or where they led. It took me a long time and a lot of mixing and matching of other lists to find a basic framework that I could then nudge as I read it.
This is an attempt at presenting the entire mutantsphere as it evolves. When New Mutants/X-Factor/Excalibur start I add what you need to know to introduce them - things that you would’ve known about if you were reading at the time of release just because of the climate or through osmosis. That said, I only mention the basics for setting up the title before returning to UXM, rather than integrating them all. Because of that not everything is by Claremont, but I’d say at least 80% is, and if I included anything that isn’t then there's a reason.
I chose to start with Classic X-Men, a reprint comic published in the late 80s to catch people up. Each issue has some corrections and cleaning up of panels or dialogue, plus a new short story (usually by Claremont) taking place around the time of each issue. I read these instead of the original issues because of the extras and benefit of hindsight.
Bold=important parts of the main story Italics=optional (with explanations)
Classic X-Men 1
Giant-Size Uncanny X-Men 1 -- Even though Classic 1 is supposed to be a modified reprint, it skips a lot of stuff in here, so I think both portray a more complete picture. Not gonna lie, it’s pretty messy reading both of these back to back cause Classic rewrites like 2/3 of the story, but that kind of big overhaul and confusion is only for the first issue.
Classic 2-13 (UXM 94-105)
UXM 106 -- Wasn’t in the Classic run because it wasn’t part of the “main” story but it’s a fun one shot.
Classic 14-16 (UXM 107-109)
UXM 110 -- A fill-in story that also wasn’t included in Classic, which is a crime because it’s the first time they played baseball!
Classic 17-30 (UXM 111-124)
UXM Annual 3
Classic 31-44 (UXM 125-138)
Bizarre Adventures 27
Phoenix The Untold Story -- Sort of a high-end “what if” issue that contains round table transcripts of the creators and editorial team, plus artwork of how they came to the conclusion of the story, and other possibilities along the way.
UXM Annual 4
Classic 45 (UXM 139) -- The end of the reprints adding new content. They continue on but without bonus stuff.
UXM 140
Marvel Team-Up (V1) 100 -- Introduces a future new mutant plus a short backup story about the first meeting between Storm and Black Panther as children. Written by Claremont.
UXM 141-149
Avengers Annual 10
UXM 150
UXM Annual 5
Marvel Fanfare (V1) 1-4
UXM 151-153
Uncanny X-Men and the Teen Titans -- Out of continuity crossover written by Claremont. Takes place around this time but can be read anytime after the Dark Phoenix Saga.
Marvel Treasury Edition 26, 27 -- The short backups near the end of each issue.
UXM 154-166
The New Mutants Graphic Novel -- Introduces the new students.
New Mutants 1-3 -- Leads into 167 better than just the graphic novel.
UXM 167
UXM Annual 6
UXM Special Edition (1983) — Reprint of giant-size 1 but includes a new kitty Pryde backup story.
X-Men: God Loves; Man Kills -- Wasn’t meant to be canon but future writers retcon it in.
UXM 168-171
Wolverine (V1) 1-4 -- Relevant to the main story.
UXM 172-175
UXM Annual 7
Magik 1-4 -- Shows how Illyana grew up and what she went through.
UXM 176-180
NM 15, 16 -- These (and later 17) follow Kitty’s journey with the NM while the rest of the X-Men are on Warworld in SW.
Secret Wars One 1-12 -- If you’ve read this before or don’t want to read the whole thing you don’t have to, but you should at least skim it for the X-Men bits, as the Colossus parts are particularly relevant. Magneto and Prof X also refer back to it sometimes.
UXM 181, 182
NM 17
UXM 183-188
Kitty Pryde & Wolverine 1-6
UXM 189-192
UXM Annual 8
Firestar 1, 2 -- Introduction to the character from the Spider-Man and his Amazing Friends cartoon into comics canon. It takes place over years which is why I cut UXM 193 in between.
UXM 193
Firestar 3, 4
X-Men and Alpha Flight 1-2 -- Muddy continuity things prevent it from clearly being put anywhere. Apparently the explanation is that it takes places between the middle and end of a single issue... Becomes relevant later.
UXM 194
Nightcrawler (V1) 1-4 -- Cockrum writes and draws Nightcrawler fucking around for four issues. Gets the briefest of acknowledgements later.
Power Pack (V1) 12, UXM 195
Secret Wars Two 1
UXM 196-198
Longshot 1-6 -- Introduces Longshot, Spiral, Mojo and Mojoworld.
UXM 199
NM Special Edition 1 (1985), UXM Annual 9
UXM 200, 201
X-Men: Heroes for Hope -- Special charity issue by every big name writer/artist at the time. Self-contained.
UXM 202-206
Avengers 263, Fantastic Four 286, X-Factor 1 -- These show how the Original 5 X-Men members come back together to form X-Factor. Can be read anywhere between 202 and 210, I just stuck them here for an attempt at pacing.
Marvel Fanfare 33 -- Doesn’t fit super well anywhere because this issue was meant as a video game tie-in. Other lists put it after annual 11 but that’s publication order and definitely doesn’t fit there.
NM Annual 2, UXM Annual 10
UXM 207-209
Mutant Massacre
UXM 210, X-Factor 9, UXM 211, XF 10, NM 46, Thor 373, Power Pack 27, UXM 212, Thor 374, XF 11, UXM 213 -- NM adds some backdrop -- like creating a medical area -- to the events but doesn’t progress the main story.
UXM 214-219
Fantastic Four vs The X-Men 1-4
X-Men vs Avengers 1-4 -- Provides closure to the story in 200.
UXM Annual 11
Fall of the Mutants
I dropped some titles you’ll see in other lists like Daredevil and New Mutants because they either add nothing or have their own, unrelated story that really just keeps you from the main title longer. Everything italicized is related to X-Factor, which also tells its own story but has some links to UXM which carry over into Inferno. It’s broken up with UXM issues for impact and spoilers. If you don’t care about X-Factor you can skip all that and just read 220-227.
XF 18-23, UXM 220-224, Incredible Hulk 340, XF 24, 25, PP 35, UXM 225-227, Captain America 339, XF 26, FF 312 -- Hulk is mostly a transition issue between 224 to 225, Power Pack just shows an extended version of a fight, Cap closes a loose end, Fantastic Four is an epilogue.
UXM 228-231
Excalibur Special Edition (1988) -- Alternate title “Excalibur: The Sword is Drawn.” This shows what happens to the leftover X-Men members who weren’t around for FotM and ties up their loose ends before launching Excalibur.
Marvel Comics Presents 1-10, Wolverine (V2) 1-8, 10 -- These take place over the months between 227 and 232. They’re just Wolverine solo stories I included because there are a couple easter eggs that distinctly place them during this time and because Claremont wrote them.
UXM Annual 12
UXM 232-238
Inferno
UXM 239, X-Terminators 1-3, XF 36, UXM 240-241, NM 71, XT 4, NM 72-73, XF 37, UXM 242, XF 38, UXM 243, XF 39
UXM 244, 245
UXM Annual 13 -- Atlantis Attacks tie-in that’s pretty confusing if you’re not following the whole event. Jubilee backup that shows what happens to her between 244 and her next appearance. The Jubilee story is kinda worth it.
Havok and Wolverine: Meltdown 1-4 — I didn’t add this originally because it’s disappointing and self-contained but eventually it’s mentioned again, years after these lists end, in X-factor 112.
UXM 246-267
Days of Future Present: FF Annual 23, NM Annual 6, XF Annual 5, UXM Annual 14
UXM 268, 269
X-Tinction Agenda: UXM 270, NM 95, XF 60, UXM 271, NM 96, XF 61, UXM 272, NM 97, XF 62
UXM 273-274
Kings of Pain: NM Annual 7, New Warriors Annual 1, UXM Annual 15, X-Factor Annual 6 -- Story across annuals about NW and X-Force with backups about Freedom Force. Totally skippable unless you’re reading those. Put here for breathing room between it and the Muir Isle saga.
UXM 275-277
Muir Isle Saga: UXM 278-279, XF 69, UXM 280, XF 70
X-Men (V2) 1-3
For some epilogue stories, see also
X-Men (V2) 4-11 -- Jim Lee stuck around on pencils through 11. And while I have opinions about his effect on the series, he drew the hell out of the book.
Weapon X (Marvel Comics Presents 72-84) — Barry Windsor-Smith tells the original story revealing Logan’s transformation and escape from Weapon X.
X-Men/Spider-Man -- A series of one-shots about crossovers between the team and SM across their careers. It’s fine by itself but excels at finding points in each title’s continuity to unite them. Like 4 issues of fun references and interactions.
X-Men: Grand Design -- A truncated retelling of the X-Men’s years from the start up to Claremont’s exodus, including most future retcons. It might seem weird to suggest a retelling of stories you just read but this is done so well while seamlessly including retcons and making small adjustments with the benefit of hindsight that it is itself a great reading experience. Sort of like when you watch a movie series after finishing the books to compare.
X-Men Forever: Alpha, 1-20, Annual 1, 21-24, Giant-Size 1, XMF 2: 1-16 -- This was an ongoing that Claremont started in 2009, picking up from X-Men #3 to tell the stories he’d had planned as if nothing happened afterwards, which he does for some (like pairing kitty with gambit) while others he just kills off because he decides he’d rather add some stuff he couldn’t have done back then. It’s still fun to see all the rumored plotlines and hints coming to fruition. Or being somewhat confirmed. The story itself isn’t satisfying, but at least it’s interesting. Alpha reprints those 3 issues from 1991 but also has a short story bridging the gap between it and issue 1. You should read it before starting the first issue because they didn’t even include that in the trade. After 24 it then has a giant-size one shot and reboots into X-Men Forever 2, which lasts up to 16.
I’ll occasionally add some stuff so if you didn’t catch something last time it might not have been there! Like the X-Men Forever entry, which I read almost 7 months ago but didn’t decide to put in until now.

What are your top 5 ships for Chamber/Jono, and wHY? (canon or fanon or RP wise)
oh gosh. this is gonna be looong & involve comic panels so - follow me under the cut if you dare?
#1 has to be chamberlee.
yes, i know, this is basic, it’s canon, but they’re so good, even before you get to the modern era. they were sweet & fun & cared about each other since gen x v1, & lee was one of the people who could get jono to not only open up but loosen up - jono always strayed towards the angsty side of being a teen, & lee was able to ignore that & get him to have some fun -
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
( generation x vol 1 #75 ) (jono i see that little two-finger salute, be nice)
i’ll also be quite honest & say i don’t tend to write/see them as romantically involved? like, it can be done, totally, but i prefer them as queerplatonic partners, coparenting shogo together (& YES that is jono’s SON we ignore what canon had jono do with shogo tyvm), & i headcanon that jono finds it pretty funny when paige tries to give him a shovel talk by comparing jono & lee’s relationship to jono’s old one with paige, because they’re just worlds different in jono’s eyes.
#2 is jono/angelo.
like with lee, i absolutely adored jono’s interactions with skin in gen x, & found them to be such an interesting & compelling duo? both of them dealt with physical mutation & their lives being basically ruined, but where jono was a pessimist about it, angelo was eternally optimistic instead? there were definitely times when angelo’s flippancy with jono bothered me, but, looking back on it, angelo got the most where jono was coming from, & was often trying to help keep his friend’s head above water when he was spiraling badly. for all his complaining, though, jono genuinely adored angelo, & the two of them connected a lot over the course of the comic (their cross country road trip!) & i’ll forever love that angelo is the one person jono calls ‘sunshine’ besides paige.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
( generation x vol 1 #17 ) (we’re in this together... til the end...)
basically, marvel, resurrected krakoan skin/chamber shenanigans when.
#3 is jonpheth, or chamber/maggott.
this is, admittedly, entirely an invention of me & my bf, who is the japheth to my jono in our private rps, with the basis that jono & japheth did actually interact in canon that one time - ! seriously, tho, we ran with the idea of japheth staying with generation x like he was initially supposed to instead of leaving after one issue, & explored the ways the two of them could connect - like jono, japheth’s mutation (his intestines being transformed into two large slugs that could leave his body & consume pretty much anything) left him with a literal hole in him, one he had to worry about consuming him (japheth’s girls ate their way back inside japheth for digestion, while jono’s fire was burning up his physical form more every time he used it) & also destroying things around him & potentially even hurting people - japheth’s girls could eat anything & he was terrified of them murdering a person at one point, just like jono had to worry about destroying things & hurting people with his manifested powers. we just felt the two of them could connect on a lot, & it’d be interesting to see how bold, flirtatious japheth mixed with awkward, closed-off jono - especially since japheth was someone who wouldn’t turn tail & flee from the nastier parts of jono like a lot of the humans who tended to hit on him.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
( generation x vol 1 #49 ) (poor jono has no idea what to do with a jock boyfriend but he’ll still throw hands for him)
i also maybe just think twiggy lil 5â€Č9 jono being swept off his feet by japheth’s canonically buff 6â€Č8 self is uhhhh kinda great as hell. & that the idea of japheth calling jono “skatjie” (afrikaans term of endearment that can literally be translated as “small treasure”) is just. the cutest.
#4 is chamberine.
...okay LOOK. look. okay. i just think logan being an ass to the moody little goth he’s gotta watch during uncanny x-men is a good basis for a ship, okay. i’m a simple person - if they can bicker & then fall into bed together, i’m into it! i also think that it’d be interesting during jono’s time undercover with the weapon x program - meeting logan in a bar to report in, only to end up shoved up against a wall with logan thoroughly exploring his reconstructed mouth.
Tumblr media
( uncanny x-men vol 1 #395 ) (logan don’t light your cigar on him - !)
Tumblr media
( uncanny x-men v1 #397 ) (even me.)
Tumblr media
( uncanny x-men v1 #398 ) (yeah, logan, stop teasing him)
& rounding it out with #5, jono/bobby.
these two butt heads & i just love it, honestly, jono’s dry, sarcastic self up against bobby’s irritating penchant for puns & loud attitude. i also, sue me, just love the idea of bobby, still closeted, not understanding why the pretty, moody goth twink that joined the team makes him so damn mad - only to look back on it years later & realize, oh, that was frustration, because jono was walking around in tight leather all the time looking like some sort of punk rock wet dream.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
( phoenix resurrection: the return of jean grey #2 ) (fucking snarky idiots. i hate them.)
...god i’m so sorry about this, if you read the whole thing.

I appreciate that DoX seems to be trying to capitalize on the very long list of mutant characters, but the ping-ponging around between different lineups within the same book is really putting me off (that, and the shit writing and mild racism). First the New Mutants title had most of the V1 gang for a solid arc, then it switches to a motley crew from X-Men/Academy X/later books with a less solid arc, then it mixes that motley crew with the V1 gang again for a bunch of random bullshit. I don't even know what the X-Men/X-Force lineup is because it isn't. Marauders is a Kitty Pryde solo with whitewashed Storm as window dressing. Excalibur is the only book that has managed to establish a consistent, ensemble lineup and then it suffers because Howard has a weak grasp on the characters. If editorial wanted to work in different characters, have entire casts rotate. Establish two or three consistent lineups and then do alternating arcs. For X-Men, say, have the Summers family as a lineup, have a Claremont Uncanny lineup with Storm, and have an Academy X lineup and have them rotate every 3 to 6 issues. Get yourselves together

Uncanny X-Men (1963) #3 — Stan Lee, Jack Kirby
Ah, it seems like Jean will (for now) have the same problem Sue has, which is other characters telling her how to use her powers, which sucks.

Can you show us some of your favorite Stephen moments?
Greetings and thanks for asking!
Sure thing, it would be an honor, although I feel it’s pretty hard to choose them because I love so many moments. Should I make a top 5? Let’s see

5. Teleporting a dinner table from a fancy hotel to feast a homeless man
Tumblr media
This moment is very special to me. It was when I knew Stephen would always be my favorite character in all Marvel universe and I could always trust on his judgement. You see, this is not quite legal. He stole from the hotel, he went full Robin Hood. But there’s something I’ve always wondered if I were a hero myself: would I bear such world? Full of hatred, misery, greed, corruption? Would I be entirely good or would I be an antihero? This is why I admire him so much. He hates the bad part of humanity, but he believes people can be better, that people can change. He knows how bad is social inequality and he’s above it. I admire that, even though this is not right according the our laws. Of course, it was written by Chris Claremont, it was expected to be this good. Also this was the first post I’ve made on this blog :)From Defenders v1 #19 (1974)
4. Challeging the Living Tribunal
Tumblr media
I simply love how Stephen has the balls to defy an entity, especially the Living Tribunal. Like, “I don’t care about your concepts of morality, this is not right and I demand a fair trial. Who put you in charge, anyway?”. The best thing is: he always manages to talk his way out. There are other similar moments that I love such as when he met Eternity. But Eternity feels almost like an acquaintance (of sorts, except when he destroyed the world, but well, entities, right?). Yet I find the Living Tribunal more iconic for he represents justice. And Stephen is a great attorney. (Phoenix would be so proud
)From Strange Tales v1 #158 (1967)
3. At the end of the world
Tumblr media
Usually, more famous heroes always take the credit for saving the universe during a mega event. But this time was different. Stephen was very important and he managed to reach the verge of the multiverse by himself. He was on the same level as Doom’s, whom is my third favorite character. What are the odds, right? I find this moment very poetic. From New Avengers v3 #33 (2015)
2. Accepting Illyana as his apprentice
Tumblr media
Completing my top 3 characters, there’s Illyana in second. I love their relationship because there are so many good parallels. They’re both constantly dealing with demons, ghosts and other mystical threats, but the real enemy comes from their hearts. They’re are so afraid of losing their few friends that they push them away unconsciously. They see themselves as unworthy beings and they rather face the abyss of darkness and loneliness alone because they truly believe they deserve it.The real struggle for them is their emotional pain: they don’t think they’re heroes or good people. They’re just saving lives because is the only way to be worth living. And even so, they managed to meet each other in the worst scenario ever and built something good from it. I couldn’t be more proud of them. From Uncanny X-men v3 #29
1. Forgiving himself
Tumblr media
Ugh, I’ve talked about this moment in another post and I get emotional every single time. I don’t want to be redundant, but I find this panel Stephen’s most beautiful moment. Because he forgave himself, finally being able to sleep peacefully after so many trials and tribulations. We all know the struggles of loving ourselves. I think this is his first step to do it and I give him all my support. To me, this is very important and poetic in a personal level, and that’s the reason it became my favorite moment. From Doctor Strange v4 #390 (2018)
As I said, there are many others. But I simply can’t point all of them xD Also I chose not to add moments of fight or power demonstration. The most precious moments to me when I’m reading Doctor Strange are displays of personal growth and emotional bonds. This is what makes Stephen Strange so special in my opinion.
Hope you have like my favorite moments! Thank you for dropping an ask!

scott and jean but it’s bad - uhh that’s pretty much it. arctic monkeys, the mountain goats, the front bottoms
mr. and mrs. x - rogue and remy are married let’s have a party but also can these two co-exist without self-destructing?? lindsay mendez, demi lovato, kacey muscgraves
welcome back to the world - this is one of literally six different emma/sean mixes but this is the most recent one and it’s about emma having just lost scott and sean being very freshly resurrected. florence, lesley gore, sara bareilles
jeanwarren - in my defense this ship has literally existed since xmen 1 so. i just want them to find solace in each other yaknow? yeah yeah yeahs, kerli, adele
hank/scott - here’s another ship that’s existed since xmen 1. dodie, troye sivan, champaign

emma/jean - just.... just date each other. how much nicer would x-men comics be if jean and emma just dated. hayley kiyoko, tegan and sara, nicki
lorna/jean - i started thinking about how jean was lorna’s best friend and she could’ve comforted lorna after alex left her at the altar and they should’ve bonded over the summers bros screwing them over and also they should’ve kissed. julia nunes, la roux, rilo kiley

madrox - jamie can’t make a fucken decision to save his life. oingo boingo, front bottoms, tmbg

warren worthington iii - SAD archangel playlist. it’s got “back pack” by ajj on there. also crywank and hozier.
stars and $#%^&*@ garters - hank mix that’s kind of silly. oingo boingo, tmbg, the song “man or muppet” from the muppet movie.
yana - don’t ask me why i have 3 illyana playlists idk why. this one, like the quentin one, goes with a whole set for the new mutants but no one else is complete yet. dead man’s bones, sufjan, brandi carlile
sina grace’s iceman - i really loved how sina grace managed to explore both bobby’s gayness and bobby’s depression without letting one overshadow the other. this is a playlist dedicated to that. ajj, front bottoms, nana grizol
tabby smith - explodey girl. sabrina carpenter, the runaways, madonna. this is more geared toward tabby in the 80s/early 90s x-factor v1 era
rictor - shakey boy!!! fun fact- my image of rictor is half 15-y.o. shaky boy from x-factor v1 and half x-factor investigations depressed depowered ric with a big blank spot where i haven’t read x-force yet. the turtles, the guess who, the front bottoms
Situational/Team:
Dark Phoenix Saga - these are songs i imagine could’ve been playing on the radio while they’re on the butte, while they’re fighting jason wyngarde and the hellfire club, and like. when they’re on the moon. pink floyd, fleetwood mac, the police
generation x disbanded - sad mix about emma, sean, monet, jubes, paige and jono recovering after everett’s death and angelo’s death, and all of them learning to go on with their lives now that the team is gone. samia, mumford & sons, kt tunstall
mama’s home - jean’s back!!!!! shania twain, ariana, janelle monae
there goes the pryde - songs for kitty after she leaves petey boy at the altar. dixie chicks, fleetwood mac, crazy ex girlfriend soundtrack
dig up charles xavier and shoot him again - i hate. that man. garfunkel and oates, tmbg, 3OH!3
uncanny - i am excited about uncanny x-men coming back and i’m excited about the writers. abba, drake, styx.
eXtermination - anybody reading eXtermination? it’s exciting. mainly i am just ready to be done with the young o5. gotye, mgmt, owl city.
astonishing x-men - i’m fcking living for matt rosenberg’s astonishing run right now it’s so funny and messed up. also i hope u appreciate the cover art on this one because i think it’s hilarious. weezer, bear hands, huey lewis
scott at the orphanage - sad mix about scottie growing up. crywank, soft cell, ajj
x-terminators - this is for the o5 x-factor’s young wards. messing stuff up, bein teens. this is music that tabby would play on the boom box while she and rictor are antagonizing skids and rusty is making sandwiches for artie and leech.
