Hello! And welcome back to Season 2 of Ultimate Obscure Blorbo!

If you don't know the rules already, unlike many poll blogs where you just vote whichever character you know regardless of the actual criteria, here you CAN'T vote for a character you know! So the more obscure a character is the better they will do!

Here’s the rules and how to sign up:

1) No bl///shipping AUs or bl///shipping blogs may enter. This is a platonic only submas tourney.

2) No NSFW 18+ AUs or NSFW 18+ blogs may enter. I want this to be welcoming to younger folks to so I’m gonna have to draw a line here.

3) You can only enter your own AU. You can share this post with other submas creators, but you can only personally enter AUs that you have made content for.

4) You can only enter AUs that have content made for it. It doesn’t matter if that content is a fic, a few drawings, or a series of interconnected tumblr asks- as long as there is content you can link me to, it qualifies. 

5) You may enter up to two AUs (one for each brother). This may be lowered to one AU per user if the demand gets too high.

6) While non inc/st ships are not outright banned, AUs must be more than “canon compliant warden Ingo but he’s dating Melli”. Give us something fun to work with.

7) AUs can, and are encouraged to crossover with other content. Cretur AUs are also allowed because turning blorbos into cretur is fun.

8) Only Ingos and Emmets may be entered. We all love Elesa but this ain’t her tourney. (Fusions can be entered, but they will be placed in a fusion only bracket that will not affect the main tourney)

9) Lower your expectations. This is for fun, there is no prize, and statistically you will not win. Please do not whine and complain when you are inevitably knocked out.

10) BE NICE TO THE CONESTENTS. Holy heck don’t make me catch y'all harassing other people for ANY REASON. I will block you. Don’t make me do it.

How to enter:

3) An image that you want to represent your AU. (If you have no image, one of my associates or I will draw a simple one- but it won’t be very good and you shouldn’t expect much)

4) The name of the preferred brother you wish to enter (preferred brother may be overruled if the brackets get too uneven)

(If you plan on entering a second AU, you must do these steps again with a second reblog. The first AU you enter will be considered the priority if we get too many entries.)

Welcome all, to the fuck-you-up music bracket!

Ever had a song you can't get out of your head, a song that strips you down to your very being and leaves you with nothing? A song that you project onto your angstiest of blorbos? A song that hits you smack where you live? Or how about a song that you just really enjoy?

Then this tournement is for you! Here you can submit your favourite song that fucks you up the most, and battle it out to see which ballard will be named the ultimate fuck-you-up song of tumblr!

Submission Rules

Submissions will stay open for a week, but if I get a crazy amount of submissions, then it'll close sooner.

Alternatively, if I don't get as many, I might leave it open longer so there's a good amount :)

This probably goes without saying by this point, but don't do multiple re-submissions of the same song. It just makes the sorting process so much more difficult for me

Yes, you can submit songs from musicals and TV shows. However, I won't be including more than 2-4 songs from each media, depending on how long that particular soundtrack is.

Song must be at least remotely fuck-you-up-ish. You must be able to justify its place within the tournement

Instrumentals are allowed

You can rant a bit about whatever blorbo you may project the song onto. It'll help me understand it better

You're allowed to submit a song by a problematic artist, however I am not in control of how quickly that gets voted off

Propaganda is allowed and encouraged! No slander though

Are nonbinary characters allowed?

Yes! Any character that falls under the transgender umbrella can be submitted.

Are non-canon trans characters allowed?

Yes! Any character you think is trans, whether canon or not, is allowed!

How do I send you official art?

Just drop it in my ask box

What if a character doesn't have official art?

Then one of three things will happen. Either one of you draws art that you allow me to use in the tournament (with credit), you receive permission from another artist for their art to be used in the tournament (with credit), or I will use the cover of the first book that character appears in.

Who is eligible for this bracket?

Any character that is a sidekick, best friend, or even assistant to a ‘bigger’ or ‘more important’ character. These characters are often overshadowed by the other character, either in their media, or in their fandom. This ‘bigger’ character does not have to be the main character, nor do they have to be a hero or a good person in the story.

What are the criteria for voting?

What is a blorbo to you? As Aragorn would say: What does your heart tell you? Therein lies your answer. For me, it's who I'd like the whump the most. Maybe for you it's who is the most shippable. Maybe it's the one that means the most to you for what they represent. Maybe it's your poor little meow meow (looking at you, Angbang lovers). Let your feelings guide you.

Is this only supposed to be about the books, or is it based on any Tolkien-based media?

This is about blorbos. Wherever you found your blorbo, that's fine. If you want to be a book purist about it, you're valid. If you love Thorin Oakenshield simply because Richard Armitage is hot, you are also valid.

Hey! Why did you pair this character with that character?

Because I spent a whole evening googling how tournament brackets work (I am not a sports person) and then I did a lot of math and sorting.

Okay, but I really want to know!

WELL first I thought: "How can I quantify and rank blorbos?" The answer: AO3. I went into the Tolkien fandom general tag and ranked the first 32 characters by the number of fanfics in which they appear.*

Then I split them by story. I roughly kept Hobbit characters with Hobbit characters, LotR with LotR, and Silmarillion with Silmarillion to keep it as fair as possible and give all corners of the fandom a chance to see their blorbo win. Some characters are in multiple sources, like Elrond or Gandalf, so I tried to keep those characters with someone who is probably just as well-known.**

Then I followed the rules the internet told me about how tournaments work. The highest-ranked character goes with the lowest-ranked character, the second-highest with the second-lowest, etc.

And that's how I did it! It was a fantastic way to waste an afternoon.

*I may have eliminated and/or played with a couple options. Some of these characters had fewer fics than the character "OC," which makes sense. I took off Erestor because literally only Glorfindel stans would choose him, and Glorfindel is on here. I also lumped together Elladan and Elrohir because if you can tell them apart, it's because they're both your blorbos. Tolkien did NOT give them distinct personalities. Also if I didn’t lump them together, I wouldn’t be able to fit Celebrimbor, and that would be a shame.

**Characters who appear in multiple stories had their rankings weighted to account for that fact. I got a C in statistics in college, though, so I frankly have no idea if the way I weighted them is correct, nor do I care, because I'm satisfied with how the rankings turned out.

The Ultimate Robot Blorbo Competition

Hello there :3, this has been a brain worm of a friend and I's for the past few days and this account finally got polls!

Entirely inspired by all of the craziness surrounding those fun polls of voting for your favorite character. This is to see out of a collection of 32 (skrinkly skrunk sopping wet cats (robots, if we're being technical here!)) contestants who is the best robotic character!

Congratulations to Arthur for being the Ultimate Inception Blorbo, twice over!

It was close in the Extended Edition bracket, with Eames leading for most of the week, but Arthur managed to pull ahead in the final lap and defend his position as Ultimate Inception Blorbo. Let's hear it for extraction's best pointman!

Thank you to everyone who participated in both brackets! I had a lot of fun setting them up, and I loved reading people's comments and reactions in the tags. Some of my favourite things to happen:

Maurice Fischer getting zero votes. Unlikeable king, I think he'd probably be proud of that

Browning having like, 2 people vote for him. Love that for you guys. Don't understand it, but I still love it for you

Dom getting absolutely ratio'd in both the regular bracket and the extended edition one

The various people distressed over having to choose between Saito and Yusuf. I love you all and you're right to think they're both amazing

You'll notice there are already 8 characters on the bracket, these characters are Taranza, Daroach, Bandana Dee, King Dedede, Shadow Kirby, Dark Meta Knight, Marx, and Magolor! There's no need to submit these characters since they're automatically in ^-^

Those of you who haven't been around for Season 1 or Season 2 may be confused about why Kirby and Meta Knight aren't here, and the answer is that Kirby won Season 1, and Meta Knight won Season 2, so they will be left out of Season 3 to give others a chance at winning!

Qualifications for submissions

The characters you submit must:

Be a Kirby character, no OCs allowed!

Show signs of sentience! (ex: While Whispy Woods is a tree, he has definitely shown signs of sentience and emotions! Therefore, you can submit Whispy Woods here!)

Not have already been denied entry from Season 1 and Season 2 (you can check if a character has been denied by looking in the #poll character: denied! tag!)

Be submitted using the google form found below! If you try to submit a character using the askbox, it will be ignored and deleted!

Rules for Submissions

Do not submit Kirby or Meta Knight, since Kirby won Season 1 and Meta Knight won Season 2!

Do not submit the characters already in the bracket (Taranza, Daroach, Bandana Dee, King Dedede, Shadow Kirby, Dark Meta Knight, Marx, and Magolor!)

You can submit multiple characters, but please don't submit the same character multiple times!

Characters from the anime, novels, and manga are allowed! However, manga, novel, and anime versions of already existing characters (specifically characters that we already have a large understanding of from the games, like Kirby, Marx, Magolor, Meta Knight, etc.) will not be allowed! Manga characters that play small roles in the games will be allowed!

Only a total of 64 characters will be allowed in the bracket, and 8 slots have already been filled, so only 56 characters will be making it onto the bracket!

Certain characters can be submitted together! (For example (but not limited to): Adeleine and Ribbon, Tiff and Tuff/Fumu and Bun, Lololo and Lalala, and the Mage Sisters!)

Kirby villains/monsters are allowed!

Even if a character has enough votes to qualify, they may be turned down from the tournament! The mod will make a public announcement for the character, and explain why.

The number of submissions needed for a character to be safely on the bracket will depend on the number of submissions this gets, but it'll be somewhere along the lines of 3-6 submissions!

While this event is framed in the lens of a good old fashioned competition, at the end of the day what it’s really about is finding new AUs and coming together as a community. Which means that while these AUs might not be moving on they’re still part of the tourney! These are the underdogs! The unknown! The rare! Which means you should check these ones out specifically!

Leave a comment! Reblog their post! Show them some love because they deserve it just as much as the competitors going forward!

And for those of you who have an itchy drawing finger? Drawings for these folks are extra sweet! Draw your blorbo with someone else's! Draw the boys hanging out in the breakrooms after being knocked out! "sorry for submitting a danganronpa character but hear me out!! there's many reasons shuichi is a relatable character, such as: 1. he's def lgbtq+ actually. in the free time events with kaito momota (another male character), shuichi's inner monologue says "only someone like him could tell me what i need to hear." before he internally scolds himself saying he "shouldn't talk about another boy like that" 2. self doubt. throughout the game, he doubts his detective skills a lot. well, in earlier chapters. he grows out of it but yk. he feels like he isn't a "real detective" n all 3. a. autism. throughout the entire prologue and chapter 1, he wears a hat to avoid eye contact. while there is an actual reason that isn't autism, i still think that's autism behavior. also he seemingly knows a lot about true crime and at one point, when another character brings up the victorian era, he responds by mentioning jack the ripper. 4. he's very sad. chapter 1? cries. chapter 3? cries. chapter 5? cries. chapter 6? cries. he might've cried other times i don't remember though. although it is fair bc people are dying. but even outside of the death, he is sad. refer to number 2. also he feels like he shouldn't have solved the case that made him the ultimate detective. (there are reasons for that. also linked to the hat.) and more"

"seven of nine is a big ball of identity questioning in one person. she literally has a whole section on her wiki page titled "identity crises". mood. as a child she's snatched up and made part of a hivemind, all these cyborg augments put into her, the usual scifi stuff. but her story begins when she's freed. against her will, even if it's ultimately for the best. she has no idea how to relate to these people, how to speak or act or dress or sound. big autism mood. big trans mood. big gay mood, because she has no idea what anyone is supposed to do when dating and it turns out she's into women and ends up with a girlfriend so it's no wonder she couldn't connect to all the lessons about boyfriends and the attempt to date a man! multiple times she's forced to assimilate and act more "human" and change her name but she won't! and the people who make an effort to understand end up important found family and friends. and she ends up in control of her own life and a captain!! legend."

#tot2023 is like your average tumblr tournament, except instead of your favorite characters its your favorite things!!! basically, anything physical thats small enough to hold.

The first round has already finished, with the winner being wooden pencil. but dont worry, the next round will start tomorrow, may 5th!!!

the bracket to this tournament is unique, in that it will expand as the tournament goes on to accomodate new contestants. more info on the bracket here.

The submissions for the tournament are still open and will remain open throughout!! you can submit your objects here or in an ask.

there are a few rules on what does and does not qualify, but theyre pretty loose, so dont worry too much when submitting. just make sure its small enough to hold, non-living, and non-lethal. if needed, the specific rules for submissions can be found here.

this tournament was inspired by several other unusual tournaments, such as @who-do-i-know-this-man 's obscure blorbo tournament, @janmisali 's best number bracket, @ultimate-poll-tournament , @the-nobody-tournament , and BFDI and BFB by Jack n Jellify (although i didnt notice the similarity until much later).

Round 2 info:

round 2 will feature 4 new contestants, competing for best of their bracket. then, the winner will face the reigning champ from last round. The winner of that match is deemed the champ of round 2, and round 3 will start shortly after, featuring 8(!!) new contestants.
