Fanfiction idea for a less upsetting writer than I:
Chea x Matty (platonic) with Chea as a burgeoning young mech pilot with eyes on the Peaceguard, copiloting a brand new Sonorie Tortoise (mkII) with Matty after a split seam dropped the squish-haunted copper beans from Chitz all over the interior during a tour with his friend, where they immediately integrated with whatever space was left in the pymaric work for the spreader. Matty’s a little hampered in that his sight is now permanently tethered to a mountain ogre’s face, but Vienne’s spreader technology was hyper-compatible with the Uaid squishes and it’s now a marvel on par with the original field spreader’s when compared to it itself.
Also they spar with Sette-and-Boo

I really always got the impression that it's very peak oil. Just like we eventually have to move past our reliance on easily accessible and highly versatile liquefied dinosaur, Kasslyne will eventually have to move past their easily accessible and highly versatile ancient monsters of their own.
Is it true that in a couple hundred years all or most first still will be exhausted and most pymarics will be irreparable or just stop functioning - and eventually there will be no more?
Yep. It'll be an interesting time. Kasslyne will still have spellwrights and pymary, but the lack of pymarics will mean pymary independent of those wrights will no longer be a thing. This could make these individually socially and politically far, far more important and powerful than they are now. Pymary could either become more precious and hence more guarded, or it could be seen as more crucial to educate EVERYONE on it, so it becomes even more widely practised.
Additionally, it will be impossible to build and erect new khert-hubs as the old ones stop functioning. No more spell-burns, no more state monitoring of pymary activity, no more Dammakhert.
New tech could and probably will come along between now and then - electricity most likely - so I don't think the world will fall back to the Stone Age. But the transition will be interesting.

Lightmore just got its 100th episode! Time to recap what has happened since February, or episode 61.
Here's the first summary post, in case you want to check that one out first.
The capsule that Grayson's group found is still weighing on Grayson's mind. He suggest that because Yuuji is too busy to look into the capsule and its disappearance, Grayson and his group could do that. Wick, Uaid Finley don't seem interested because they don't get paid for it and because the capsule was likely E-Demons property. Nova seems to agree with Grayson, though. She wants Grayson to have a solid plan on how to look into the capsule, though. Grayson says he'll think about it.
The next morning, Mala performs the Glasgow Coma test on awake Jaimal and Jaimal passes with a full score. Jaimal is officially no longer comatose. Jaimal asks how long he was asleep, but Mala dodges the question.
Meanwhile at the Bafford Mansion, Michael has breakfast alone. Just as he's about to stand up and go wake up Joel, his son himself steps in to the dining hall on his own accord and on time. He says that he has reconsidered his priorities when Michael expresses his surprise.
Meanwhile, with the Badawis, as the family is planning what to do with the day. When everyone is caught up to speed and has a task, Beatrice gets a text from Valeria saying that she had fun last night. Beatrice tells her she had fun too and that they should go out again when Beatrice is less busy. Valeria enthusiastically agrees and asks Beatrice to contact her immediately when her chaos in Beatrice's life dies down. Valeria also asks if there's anything she can do to help with it. Qianfan, having seen Beatrice texting, asks if Valeria would happen to know anything about Lieselotte's alleged husband. Valeria says she might, but she needs to call some people first to make sure it's not a false lead.
Michael and Joel arrive to Michael's office at the Power Plant. Michael invites Kahale to his office. When Kahale arrives, Michael tells him that Joel should be easier to manage now. Kahale is confused and glances at Joel, who avoids his eyes. Michael then dismisses both Kahale and Joel, but Kahale questions if it really was that easy. Joel tells him that Michael gave him a lecture that "gave him a lot to think about" and made him "see things in a different light now". This does not help with Kahale's confusion, but he lets the issue drop. With that, Kahale and Joel leave the office. On their way to Kahale's office, they come across Tsubaki, who puts on a little flirt for Joel, who just dodges it. This confuses both Tsubaki and Kahale.
At Lieselotte's office, Lieselotte's assistant tells her that Prime is here to see her. Lieselotte seems very happy about it and the two hug and exchange cheek kisses. Prime tells Lieselotte that he found the man that Lieselotte asked him to find. He also tells her that he seems to spend quite a lot of time at the Red Lights District. Lieselotte isn't happy to hear this. She says that "he can't go down there and see whores while living with her". Prime asks what she plans to do about it and Lieselotte asks if Prime has the man's address. She needs to do some calls.
At the Suri-Gul family home, Aditi is cooking breakfast and humming cheerfully. Keelan steps into the kitchen and seems to be surprised to see Aditi so cheerful. Aditi tells him that Mala invited her for dinner.
Delano wakes up to a text message from a unknown number asking for a meeting. Delano assumes that it's a new client, Delano agrees to meet him in 20 minutes at the Red Lights District.
At Beatrice's apartment, Qianfan asks how they're going to find Lieselotte's ex-personal assistant. Beatrice is trying to find her LinkedIn and her contact information. Beatrice finds the ex-pa, Ivy, and it turns out that Qianfan already kind of knows her through an acquaintance. Beatrice asks him to call his acquaintance and ask to talk to Ivy. Qianfan agrees, even if he's not that close to the acquaintance, Nana. Nana gives Ivy Qianfan's number and she calls him. Ivy seems a little salty to be talking about Lieselotte, but eager to share what she knows. She invites Beatrice and Qianfan to her apartment because she shouldn't "spill this tea over the phone".
At the Red Lights District, Delano meets up with the man who texted him. Delano is invited into a beat-up van and the man drives off with him. Delano quickly finds that there is a second man in the van, to his confusion. The second man sneaks up on Delano and pins him on the backrest. He jams a needle into Delano's neck and drugs him. Delano passes out.
Angelo arrives at the LCPD and thanks Whisper and Yuuji for taking him along again. Yuuji formally introduces himself to Angelo and the two shake hands. Then the group is off to find out what Keith was doing before he arrived to the Badawi Family home. Yuuji has gotten the location data from Keith's phone and they're using that to retrace his steps. This brings the trio to a street in front of a shop. They look for any security cameras that might have caught a glimpse of him before he headed to the family home. They find one attached to a store front and approach the store's manager to ask if they can have a look at the camera's log. The manager seems a little suspicious, but agrees to let Yuuji's group to take a look. In the camera's logs, they see Keith talk to his phone, then get pulled into a van against his will. Whisper gets the van's license plate and writes it down.
Delano wakes up in a dark, empty room, tied to a chair. The two men from the van are standing in front of him. With an apology of "it's nothing personal" and start beating him with fists and kicks, until Delano passes out.
In the Power Plant's cafeteria, Joel is sitting along, still looking haunted. Tsubaki approaches him with a cheerful greet. The two sit in awkward silence as Tsubaki watches Joel expectantly. Just as Tsubaki is about to ask if Joel is alright, Joel abruptly leaves, leaving a baffled Tsubaki behind.
Beatrice and Qianfan arrive at Ivy's apartment. Ivy seems very eager to share all the "bullshit" that Lieselotte did when she was her pa. Beatrice reminds her that they're only interested in hearing Hellenic Pharma specifically. Ivy is excited to share her intel nevertheless. Ivy tells that Lieselotte has this girlboss girl power imago going on, but she tended to treat people below her like garbage. She usually treated Ivy like air, unless she was being overly familiar with her and pretending the two were sisters.
According to Ivy, Lieselotte was careless with her computer around Ivy (leaving it unlocked and open on classified information for Ivy to see) because she seemed to think that Ivy was a useless bimbo. Which Ivy implies to not be incorrect. Nana points out that Ivy is a lawyer.
Ivy continues with her story, saying that one day she came in when Lieselotte was on the phone and she heard everything Lieselotte was saying. According to Ivy, Lieselotte was berating someone for being irresponsible and unprofessional. Ivy later managed to see who Lieselotte was talking to, who was saved in Lieselotte's phone as "Helen". Ivy says that it wasn't Helen Wyatt (the police chief's wife), because she is saved as her full name in Lieselotte's phone. Ivy later looked the number up and found that it belonged to someone who worked at Hellenic at the time.
Beatrice asks if Ivy has any concrete proof of any of this, which Ivy doesn't. Ivy then asks Beatrice why they're looking into Hellenic. Beatrice tells her that they're looking for a link between Lieselotte and Hellenic. Ivy says that there definitely is one, but she doesn't have proof of it and apologises for not being more helpful.
Qianfan says that they have to talk to Lieselotte's husband, to which Ivy responds that he doesn't exist. When questioned, Ivy elaborates that Lieselotte says she has a husband, but he doesn't exist or doesn't lie with her. Lieselotte acts like they're in love and do lots of couple stuff together, but he's never seen out of her house. Ivy says she got the feeling that Lieselotte seems to think that the "husband" needs a little convincing to marry her and that the whole situation gave her stalkery vibes. Ivy also could give Beatrice and Qianfan the husband's first name: Delano.
Ivy also brings up that Lieselotte has been teasing her husband's social debut soon, whether he exists or not. She also alleges that Lieselotte is kind of unhinged behind closed doors. Qianfan thinks they should find this Delano guy just to warn him.
Beatrice brings the conversation back to Hellenic, and Ivy offers that she could try snooping around to find solid proof of Lieselotte's connection to Hellenic. With that, Beatrice and Qianfan leave and decide to go find Delano.
Meanwhile with Yuuji's group, they have found the owner of the van who abducted Keith, Ed Johnson. Yuuji wants to run a background check before going to talk, but Angelo offers to talk to him because he's not a cop and not known as a Badawi yet. He could get the man's guard down and get him to say something. Yuuji suggests doing this at a bar when Ed is a little drunk to lower his inhibitions.
Tsubaki is meeting Kahale in his office and ranting to him about how weird Joel is acting. Kahale doesn't seem interested because it's not his business. He points out that he's made it this far by staying in his lane and he suggests that Tsubaki does the same because it gets unsafe when one gets to a certain position. This makes Tsubaki hesitate. The conversation is interrupted when Joel steps in.
At Beatrice's apartment, Beatrice catches the rest of the family up with what they found. She namedrops Delano, which catches Orlando's attention. He wants to immediately go warn Delano. Beatrice notices she has a message from Valeria. She says that she's heard that someone got kidnapped. Beatrice asks her to look into it, if she can, to which Valeria agrees.
Orlando arrives at Lucky Jack's Casino and finds Daxton. He asks Daxton about Delano, and Daxton says that Delano isn't at work today, unusually not having texted that he's not coming to work. Orlando asks if Daxton knows where he lives, but Daxton wants to know why he wants to know. Orlando tells him that he believes that Delano might be in trouble, which catches Daxton's attention. Daxton offers to take Orlando to Delano's apartment himself. While the two are on the way, Daxton tries calling Delano, but Delano doesn't pick up. The two arrive at Delano's apartment and ring the doorbell. Daxton notices how silent it is, because Fang usually starts barking when the doorbell rings. The landlord comes by and tells the two that Delano moved out earlier the same day. A moving crew came in and took his things out. The landlord doesn't know where Delano moved.
Delano has a brief dream about his mother before waking up at a hospital. Lieselotte is sitting next to his bed and greets him.
Leaving Delano's apartment building, Daxton seems hurt that Delano didn't ask him to help move. Orlando points out that if Delano didn't ask for help, it might mean that he didn't move out of his free will. Orlando says that he might know where to start looking for Delano, so he and Daxton head out.
Twenty years ago, a younger Delano heads to Lieselotte's house, looking nervous and tired. Lieselotte invites him in and the two have dinner together. Not having eaten much that day, Delano digs into his meal hungrily. Delano thanks Lieselotte for the invitation and tells her why he had contacted her. Delano starts telling Lieselotte about the difficult situation that his family was in right now. Their mother died and that their father is not taking it well. Delano is now here to ask Lieselotte for some time off from work so his father can work things out. Lieselotte seems surprised that that was all that Delano wanted and easily agrees to it. Lieselotte muses that they'd need to find a replacement for the father, but Delano says he's looking for a job. Lieselotte promises to arrange it for Delano and suggests a toast. The wine bottle on the table depletes as the dinner goes on. Eventually the two end up on Lieselotte's sofa, where Lieselotte slides her hand across Delano's chest and kisses him.
In present moment, in the hospital room, Delano sits up so fast that it hurts his injuries, worrying Lieselotte. Delano settles back onto the bed, shifting as far away from Lieselotte as possible. He coldly asks why Lieselotte is here, which seems to insult Lieselotte. She did "save" him from the men beating him up, ater all. Delano continues to act cold towards her, which makes Lieselotte muse that she should get used to it because he's going live with her from now on. Delano stares at her in horror.
Tomo gets a call from Lieselotte's assistant (on Delano's phone), telling them that Delano is injured and can't work for a few days. The pa says that she's calling on the behalf of Delano's wife, which catches Tomo's attention. Tomo asks the pa to repeat the "wife's" name and writes it down on a sticky note. When the call ends, Tomo immediately lets Jaqueline know what has happened. Jaqueline seems very pleased about these news.
Orlando and Daxton arrive at the Red Lights District. Daxton seems confused about this because he's never heard Delano talk about women. Daxton gets a call from Tomo, telling him that Delano has been found. Orlando and Daxton head back to the casino.
At the E-Demons headquarters, the leaders of the gang, Luke and Lavern, hear about Lieselotte having gotten her hands on Delano. Lavern isn't happy about it, and Luke calls them selfish for it. Maurice, a gang member and Delano's boyfriend, hears this conversation and isn't happy. He starts making his leave, but the twins notice him. Luke warns him not to fuck with Lieselotte because she's a valuable sponsor for E-Demons. He also reminds Maurice that they have "the switch". Maurice says he knows and leaves.
The Badawis have gathered to Jaqueline's office, and Jaqueline informs them about an update to their assignment. She tells them that Lieselotte has something "of hers" and she wants them to go find proof of it and retrieve Delano. Beatrice informs her that they are just about to find a link between Lieselotte and Hellenic. Jaqueline says that they are free to continue with the line of investigation, but she'll give them what she knows about Zeus if they help Delano. Orlando offers to help Delano so Beatrice and continue looking into Hellenic.
Joel is sitting in an office at the Power Plant. Tsubaki approaches him again, asking how he's doing. Joel gives an exhausted answer. Tsubaki asks if he wants to talk about it, but Joel doesn't seem eager to talk. He just brushes it up all to having to work for once in his life and not being used to it. Joel gets a message from Michael, reminding him of Lieselotte's charity gala coming up. Joel invites Tsubaki to the gala with him. Tsubaki agrees.
Maurice is at the Red Lights District, following a map app. He arrives at the place where Delano met with the man with the van. He hacks into a security camera and finds Delano meeting with the man in the archives. He takes screenshots of the man and finds out who he is. Then Maurice heads to Jaqueline's office and tells her that he found the men who took Delano. Jaqueline asks what she would do with this information. Maurice gives some violent options, which Jaqueline turns down, saying that they could just ask the man if this whole deal was his idea or if he was paid to do it. Or more specifically, if Lieselotte paid him to do it.
Daxton escorts Maurice out of the casino, letting Maurice have a quick chat with him. Maurice says that Delano has mentioned Dax a few times, but Daxton notices that he hasn't heard of Maurice. Maurice suggests that the two should have dinner together to get to know each other, to which Daxton eagerly agrees. Before Maurice leaves, Daxton asks him to contact him if there's anything he can do. Maurice agrees.
Maurice finds the man who abducted Delano and breaks into his apartment. With a little violent persuasion, Maurice hears that a "fancy bitch" hired him to abduct Delano and "scare him a little". He agrees to give her number to Maurice if he gets out of the apartment. Maurice agrees. With the phone number, Maurice finds Lieselotte's pa and the texts she sent to the man. Hacking the pa's phone, Maurice sadly can't find any mention of Delano or hiring people in the texts between the pa and Lieselotte.
While they wait to hear from Ivy, Beatrice and Qianfan head back to Hellenic HQ to see if they can find a connection to Lieselotte in the archives. They don't find it, but they find reports about successfully inducing spontaneous mutations in mice. Qianfan asks if there's any mention about inducing it in people. Beatrice connects it to the bottle that Keith swallowed before mutating. Qianfan says that they should call the coroner and ask if they've finished the analysis on the bottle. As they leave the HQ, Beatrice calls the coroner, who tells them that the tests are still cooking, but whatever was in the vial was strong, but there isn't enough left to figure what the liquid would do.
Meanwhile, Valeria is walking at a brisk pace at the Red Lights District. Jessie and Penny see her and invite her for a chat. Valeria asks them if they've heard of anyone getting abducted recently. Jessie is immediately interested and offers to help Valeria look into this mystery. Valeria learns that the person who might have gotten abducted in a van was Delano and she pales. She's suddenly in a hurry to find the van, which Jessie notes. Valeria and Jessie start to move out, but Valeria notices that Penny is staying behind. Valeria asks if she's not coming, which Penny confirms. Penny tells her that they found her father dead, so she's collecting money for the funeral. Valeria hugs her and tells her she's sorry for her loss and offers to help with the funeral.
Valeria and Jessie head out and ask around about the van, but they don't find much. Jessie asks why Valeria is so stressed out about this, and Valeria tells her that Delano is her nephew.
Yuuji, Whisper and Angelo are in a bar, keeping an eye on Ed. Angelo confesses that he doesn't have a clear idea of bar etiquette because he has never drunk alcohol. Because of this, Whisper will be the one getting Ed to drink while chatting to him while Angelo keeps an eye on Whisper's back. Whisper managed to get the man talk about his job, especially some "unofficial commissions" that he sometimes takes from a "rich woman". Ed proceeds to tell them about taking Keith to a certain place. He only later learned that Keith mutated in the place and that he feels horrible about it. He also talks about abducting someone and beating him up. He asks if he's a bad person for doing those things, to which Whisper doesn't have a polite answer to. They do tell him that he should probably stop doing those shady commissions. With that, Whisper and Angelo return to Yuuji and tell him what they found out. Yuuji asks if they found out who this rich woman is, which they didn't. Because it's late, the group decides to go home. Angelo walks Whisper to their apartment because Whisper is a little drunk. Whisper stumbles, and Angelo puts their arm around them to keep them upright. When the two get to Whisper's apartment building, Whisper thanks Angelo for walking them home and calls him cute, which they immediately call a slip of a tongue.
Maurice gets a text from Jessie, asking him for a favor to hack into a security camera to find a van. Maurice asks if it's to do with Delano's kidnapping. Maurice tells Jessie that he's also working on the case and that he knows where Delano is. Valeria wants to know which hospital, which Maurice doesn't know yet, but he promises to let Jessie know when there's something she can do. Valeria doesn't understand this. Delano is in the hospital, the situation should be over now? Maurice just tells them that the situation is deeper than that. Valeria connects the dots and wonders if this is to do with the stalker that Delano has mentioned having. Valeria asks Jessie if Lillith would know about the stalker. Jessie texts Lillith and asks. Lillith does know that the stalker exists and that it's a woman and probably rich. Jessie tells Lillith that Delano has been abducted and Lillith is Not Happy to hear it. She asks Jessie and Valeria to wait for two hours before getting back to them with more info.
Valeria asks who Lillith is. Jessie tells her that Lilliith is the founder of the Sex Workers' Union, but not much else is known about her.
At Ivy's apartment, Ivy is sitting on the sofa with her hacker friend Irantu. She's on the phone with Lieselotte's pa and tells her that she's been contacted by Hellenic about wage theft that took place five years ago. However, her client is interested in not suing if Meyer Renovations can prove that there were wages going from MR to Hellenic. Lieselotte's pa sends Ivy the logs, neatly connecting Meyer Renovations to Hellenic at the time of the illegal chemical dump scandal.
Lillith gets back to Valeria and Jessie, telling them that she couldn't find much because Delano doesn't have much of a presence online, but she recommends them to go talk to one of the guards at the casino that he seems to be close to. Valeria jumps at the chance.
Aditi goes to Mala's house for the dinner. The two fondly talk to each other about the food Mala cooked, about Jaimal and about Aditi's mother. When Aditi pulls out the gulab jamun that she brought, Mala grows quiet. She tells Aditi that she trusts her, and because she trusts her, she's going to show Aditi something. Mala brings Aditi to her secret lab and asks her to put a hairnet, shoe covers and a labcoat on. Aditi is starting to get scared, but she follows Mala and her instructions. Before Mala opens the capsule where Jaimal is sleeping in, she asks Aditi to promise that she won't tell anyone about what she sees in the lab. Aditi promises, and Mala opens the capsule, revealing Jaimal inside. Aditi stares in disbelief and asks if she can touch him. Mala explains Aditi what happened after the car crash. Aditi is in awe that Mala did all of it alone and hugs her, saying that it must have been hard. Mala hugs her back and confirms that it was hard.
While Aditi and Mala hug, Jaimal wakes up. Aditi hurries to hug him and finally starts to cry on his shoulder. Aditi calls this a miracle and thanks Mala for doing this miracle.
Mala asks Jaimal what the last thing he remembers is. Jaimal is a little confused, but he says that he remembers just having moved into their new house. Mala notes that Jaimal has forgotten a few years before the accident. After some chatting, Jaimal falls back asleep, and Mala and Aditi return upstairs. Back in the kitchen, Mala reminds Aditi how important it is that she never tells anyone about the lab. Aditi says it's going to be hard, but she promises not to tell. Aditi asks why Mala doesn't want to come to public with what she has done. She could be rich and famous if people knew that she has saved someone from dying from mutations. Mala tells her that she has a reason to suspect that someone rammed into their car on purpose and that she's not sure if it's safe for Jaimal yet.
Aditi asks what Mala is going to do next. Mala says that she has to do some tests to figure out if Jaimal has brain damage and she has to wean him back to solid food and start his physical therapy. Aditi offers to help.
Mala tells Aditi that when she's sure that it's safe, they can start telling people about Jaimal being alive.
At the casino, Valeria and Jessie find Daxton and ask if he knows anything about his stalker. Daxton says that Delano has mentioned the stalker to him only a few times, but he's said that she sometimes sends him gifts and seems to think that she was his girlfriend. He then connects the dots and speculates that maybe Delano's sudden move from his apartment is connected to the stalker. He also tells Valeria that other people are looking into the case and taking care of it, to Valeria's relief. Daxton also offers to contact Valeria if there's something she can do.
At Beatrice's apartment, Beatrice and Angelo have just finished telling the rest of the family about the reports they found at Hellenic. After a shocked silence, Isabella asks if they've found a connection between Lieselotte and Hellenic yet, which they are still waiting for from Ivy. As if on cue, Ivy calls Beatrice and tells her that she's sent the evidence to her email. Beatrice asks what she can do for Ivy in return, but Ivy agrees to leave it as an IOU for now. She also wants to see Lieselotte "eat shit".
Aditi returns home, humming cheerfully. Keelan notices it and comments on it. Aditi serves some of Mala's leftovers for her family. Keelan is relieved to hear that Mala is starting to move on from Jaimal's death, but Makali seems to be a little suspicious. She shrugs it off, when Aditi asks her if it's really that hard to believe.
Back at the hospital, Delano wakes up to Lieselotte and a nurse coming to his room. The nurse gives Delano a check up before declaring him alright to go home. Lieselotte gives Delano some clothes, which he changes into before they're ready to leave. While The nurse escorts Lieselotte and Delano out of the hospital, Lieselotte chatters happily, suggesting that they should go clothes shopping, especially because Delano now needs a suit for the charity gala coming up. Delano is confused about the gala, but seems to just roll with the announcement that it's when he's going to do his "social debut" in.
Lieselotte brings Delano to her house in her car. At the house, Lieselotte says that there is someone who's eager to see you, which Delano thinks means Fang. But when they get in the house, Lieselotte instead calls for Adriano (Asahi). Delano immediately notices that Adriano's eyes are identical to Delano's. Lieselotte tells Delano that after the dinner they had together, Lieselotte found that she was pregnant. Adriano is Lieselotte and Delano's son.

There are some absolutely incredible pages and sequences in this comic but I think this one is my favourite. I think this and Friday together are one of the most beautiful things Glass has ever done.

Whumptober 2024 - 13 - "Team As A Family"
Quigley loathed the stink of Uaid. The great green albatross around his neck assaulted him from a myriad of directions: his mildewed mud flesh, the stagnant water sloshing in his bowels, the rotten table scraps wedged in all his crevices, and even the heap of dirty laundry that Matty had been supposed to wash before all their small world had gone even more to shit.
There it sat still in a moist lump, and Quigley could smell it with impossible acuity, suddenly. The laundry, the mildew, the rot. He could smell it. It hurt his eyes.
Then the fucking zombie came down from the cockpit and Quigley could smell him too. Would that he could rip free the entirety of his sinuses in one long, greasy strip.
"We add a pinch of sugar to you," Adelier said in his tinny voice with its pretentious academic accent that Quigley swore he played up even more around him, "Add the result to a cool pitcher of water, and you'd be a refreshing draught to market to the spectators outside a summer duelling ring."
Quigley didn't look up from his newspaper.
"What?"
Adelier was undeterred. "SOUR," he clarified, perching primly on Matty's travel trunk. How did the corpse sit properly without an ass? No way to know. He picked a beetle from inside his left glove, crushed it, and flicked it down into Uaid's lower levels. "You seem sour as a lemon. Sour as a lemon." His hood tilted away for a fraction of a fraction, as if in thought, then it was gone. "Reading something disastrous there in the daily decree? I understand not how a son of the Six Rings tolerates a Crescian periodical. It is all- all inked in the Queen's befouled bathwater. You'd find more truth in a Sharteshanian courtroom."
Quigley did look up now - just the barest slash of evil eyes between his white fringe and the top of the paper.
"What?"
Adelier went cross inside his hood. Quigley felt a little better.
"A sour parrot then!" the zombie said stiffly. "What what? What what?" He leaned closer to make out the headline. "Litriya Shrine? This year the Bitch-Queen Cannibal orders her Tirnasday take-away from Litriya Shrine, hm?"
"NO!" corrected Matty from below. Quigley heard him rattle the ladder as he began to climb. "That is not how you say it, Mr Adelier! You say it: The twin sacrifice this year will march in a beautiful procession from Litriya Shrine, and go to Queen Sonorie for Tirnasday, and the world will have good fortune until next feast day!"
Duane chortled drily. "Someone do report to the Silver Eel it is nearly out of time to menace the country; Cutter must not have a subscription."
"Providing the sacrifice to the Queen is a heck of an honour," said Jivi, following Matty up onto Uaid's central platform. He turned to rummage in his pack before realising, with a jolt: "Litriya Shrine! Isn't that where we're going?"
Matty gasped and grabbed his arm. "I wonder if we'll meet the twin!"
"Meet the meat!" mocked Duane. Quigley wondered if the man that had murdered him ever thought back on the deed fondly. "I hope that we do. I will speak God's words to the poor wretch and tell them there is another way."
"You will NOT," hissed the Plat, finally folding the paper. He put himself nose to nose with the bastard - or would have, if a nose were yet extant. "You will not embarrass me at this shrine. I need the facility there to mend Uaid and unless you would like me to press you into his broken fucking leg like a wad of fucking chewing gum, you will keep your rotten yawp well shut until it's done."
"SOUR!" barked Duane, not retracting a word nor an inch, "What cloud is this you shrink beneath this day, hethllot?"
Jivi blinked at the Alds, and offered: "That's just Quigley." Matty shook his head and plunked down on the floor.
"No, Papa is vexed 'beyond all light and life' because Uaid is dirty."
Giving the Plat a gentle shove that rocked him back into his seat, Duane stood magnanimously, spreading his fleshless arms. "I did not realise you were so particular! Let us have a harrowing out then. Put the brute over onto the bank for a scrubbing and a scouring. And I say, methinks our caravan far enough from civilisation that a large Core Leech of our more… fragrant passengers will not overly offend friend khert."
From the dark underneath, Sette wailed: "Don't Core Leech me, ya freaks!"
Jivi leaned over the railing. "He means the trash, you trash! I knew you knew that you stink! How do you even stand it when you have a magic smelling nose! Take a bath!"
"I'm assertin' dominence o'er the atmosphere. There ain't one inch of this construct that I ain't put me mark on."
Duane pressed his fingertips together with some concern. "Sette, have you urinated on the walls?"
Little girl cackling bounced around like bats in the blackness. "Figure it out, Materials Master!"
Matty laughed, and Quigley felt a little better. He liked when Matty laughed. But then the zombie slapped his knee, and between that undead contact and the thought of Sharteshanian piss on half his possessions, he wished suddenly and desperately to bathe. He had always been a tidy sort, sensitive to smells and clutter. Vienne had never called him neurotic to his face, but they had fought whenever her forge gubbins intruded upon the rest of the house. Matty knew that, too. He should have been keeping Uaid tidier.
Thinking about it, now Quigley was cross again. He looked away from Duane's questing gaze. The zombie didn't let him. "You must forgive me," he said, leaning into his field of view, "I, of course, can smell nothing. Do I, myself, offend also? Shall I also Core Leech my-"
"Aye," Quigley affirmed. Matty grabbed at the zombie's hands to stop him wiping himself from existence.
"No, Mr Adelier! Only your clothes! And maybe the old crusts and wrappers and fuzzy parts of Uaid's bum crack!"
Duane smiled at him kindly. "'Twould have to be only those, young master. The rest of me is well-warded and cannot possibly create an odour. But I do forget my clothing, and these have been strange days spent among strange - and apparently odoriferous - substances. With all humility, I apologise if I am the cause of anyone's distemper."
The zombie bowed his hooded head and Quigley could not dismiss the sincerity of the gesture.
It wasn't much, but he felt a little better. Matty threw his arms around his neck and wasn't immediately shrugged off.
"Papa, if we're going to stop, let's picnic! I'll make food and everyone can swim in the river while Mr Adelier cleans Uaid!" Matty dove for the sack of provisions Iori had gifted them in Ethelmik. "UAAAAID! <Find a grassy bank! No bugs!>"
Sette's brown and bedraggled mop popped up through the floor. "S'gonna be sammiches again? Why couldn't that large woman pack us any pies? Pies don't go stale but all the bread's gone hard as Jivi's head."
"Eat your putrid canned fish," Jivi shot back, "More for us. You don't friggin' know what hard is 'til you've had nothin' but hardtack for two weeks, landsman."
"I'd never be stoopid enough t'be in that situation," answered the Sharte with supreme smarm, "UAAAID! Find a stoppin' point near a town and I'll go nick us some proper food!"
"Like you robbed that chapel yesterday?" hissed Quigley, grabbing at her hair. He missed, of course, but then Sette turned and did the oddest thing. Deep into her voluminous britches she punched her right hand, and from the depths there she produced a small and sealed jar of pickled and peppered quail eggs.
"AYE. Like I robbed that chapel yesterday and came up with these pickled abominotions I know Plats love. Here."
Quigley caught the sparkling wee jar deftly. Ooh, Main Noire brand, from Valyne. He hadn't even seen the brand in years, with its gold foil label and curling vliegeng logo. Shrewd eyes darted to the Sharte. "What's the catch?"
"Givin' me flesh protector and me a ride, ain'tcha? Just stop castin' murder looks at everyone; makes me homesick."
Jivi gave the jar a once-over, then jutted his chin out.
"Whatcha brought me?"
"Look here-" Sette reached into her shirt and Jivi crowded forward to see. He was thrown off-balance when she suddenly hooked a naked foot into the back of his knee and shoved him hard in the chest. Arms wheeling for purchase, he fell back, towards the edge of the platform, but found nothing to grab but his attacker. Sette called him everything but a gentleman and they both toppled down into darkness. A splash reported their landing, then the sputtering jabber of a Crescian and a Sharte trying to outcurse each other.
"How much of that is piss down there?" asked Quigley, popping the seal on the eggs and laughing and laughing. Matty ooh'd and reached for one. Quigley felt a little better.

My cyberpunk dystopia murder mystery story Lightmore is one year old today! A lot of plot has happened during this year. Let's take a look where we are, story-wise, shall we?
The Badawi family, known for their private detective services and whistleblowing, have gathered together for a family conference. However, in the middle of the meeting, a stranger wanders into the family home an spontaneously mutated, slaughtering most of the family. Beatrice Badawi (pictured, left), the second oldest child of the head of the family suddenly finds herself facing the place of the head now that her father Francesco and older brother Gabriele are dead. In the hospital, Beatrice offers to adopt Angelo and Camila, two distant cousins who lost their parents.
With Qianfan Chen, her nephew-in-law, Yuuji Kieu and Whisper Thompson from the Lightmore City Police Department, Beatrice hits the ground running and starts immediately investigating the incident, even when a lot of her family is in the hospital and even more are deceased.
Right after the incident, Yuuji goes to the morgue to investigate the items the mutated person had on them while he mutated. Yuuji finds out that his name was Keith Dallas and that he had swallowed a small vial right before mutating. The vial is sent to texting and Yuuji takes Keith's phone with him as he goes to find Keith's family.
Meanwhile, doctor Mala Carillo-'Aukai (pictured, right) is approaching the fifth anniversary of the tragic death of her husband, Jaimal Suri-Gul, in a traffic accident. Aditi Suri-Gul, Jaimal's mother, Nursimo Meroving, Jaimal's twin brother and Makoto Nakamura, Nursimo, Jaimal and Mala's childhood friend (and a beloved vlogger and influencer) are also coping with the upcoming anniversary in their own ways.
In reality, Jaimal is alive. Mala has a secret lab hidden in the basement of her home, where she is keeping Jaimal in a medically-induced coma in a capsule.
Michael Bafford, the CEO of Bafford Energy Corp. decides that Joel, his son, is old enough to start being trained to take his place as the CEO of the company when Michael is retiring. However, Joel has lived his life a little too comfortably and seems unwilling to work.
Grayson Atieno, Uaid Connell, Nova Thompson, Finley Pelham and Wick Omarov, workers for Lightmore City Saniation Inc., find a weird, silver capsule hidden in the cisterns under the city while they're looking for the corpse of a certain man. They report it to Whisper, but they're busy with the Badawi incident.
Yuuji finds Keith's wife, and Beatrice goes to talk to her with Whisper. Before they do that, they pick up Qianfan and check the family home's security camera tapes. In the security camera footage, they see Keith swallowing something before he enters the house. This causes a suspicion about Keith's drug usage.
While talking to Keith's wife, Beatrice, Whisper and Qianfan find out that Keith had just gotten a promotion at his job at the Power Plant. He and his wife were planning to have a baby, until Keith suddenly changed. He became withdrawn, nervous and secretive. As such, the couple had been growing apart for years, so Keith's wife can't give a definite answer about Keith having a drug habit. She also found out that Keith had been seeing a sex worker behind her back for a while. The sex worker might know more about if Keith had a habit of taking drugs. She also tells the group that one day Keith came home drunk and told her that if he disappears, he's been murdered. A rumor about workers at the Power Plant dying when they get a certain promotion comes up. The next step is to find out if Keith's colleagues know anything about him acting weird, investigate the rumor and go talk to the sex worker that Keith has been seeing.
Makoto has auditioned for a part in Adventure Dog, a hugely popular TV show. While waiting to hear back from the AdvenCrew, she's also preparing for her annual memorial stream for Jaimal's death.
Whisper and Angelo head to the Power Plant to talk to Kahale, a Power Plant worker. Kahale agrees to talk to them, but only outside of the Power Plant. Kahale confirms that Keith's personality had a sudden shift soon after his promotion. He also confirms that the rumor is real, a lot of Power Plant workers after being promoted to senior engineer, but people who are either loyal to the company or mind their business live.
Beatrice and Qianfan go to the red lights district to find the sex worker Keith has been seeing. The sex worker turns out to be Delano, a tall, muscular man, who doesn't know anything about Keith or his habits. He is able to tell that Keith has been nervous or stressed every time he's met him. Valeria, a helpful bystander, is able to tell them about a party drug named Zeus that allegedly makes people go berserk. Jaqueline, a casino owner and a known drug trafficer, would probably know something about Zeus.
Grayson and his group bring Yuuji down to the cisterns to show him the capsule that they found. However, by the time they get to where the capsule had been, it's gone. Grayson seems to know that it's not there before they even get to the spot. He also seems to know that it has been removed. But since there's nothing they can do, the group leaves the cisterns.
Joel's first day at the Power Plant is off to a rough start. First he's late (because he overslept and took his time eating breakfast), then he's late even more when he gets lost in the Power Plant. Michael is extremely unhappy about this.
Jaimal's loved ones prepare for the anniversary of his death. Aditi gets a day off, Nursimo is visited by Niran, a friend who he's been having Tension with, being promised that Niran would visit on the day of the anniversary too, and Makoto prepares for her memorial stream. Mala trims Jaimal's beard.
The anniversary comes and everyone's mood is solemn. Aditi sleeps in, Nursimo conflictedly prepares to see Niran, Makoto prepares for her stream, Mala leaves the stream on for Jaimal before going to work. One of the nurses working at Mala's clinic suggests Mala to take the day off, but she turns the offer down. She doesn't want to be alone with her thoughts today.
Meanwhile, the Badawis also prepare for the funerals of their family members. They visit the morgue and wash the bodies, as is custom. After washing the bodies, they go to the Mosque for mass.
Joel's second day at the Power Plant is off to a much better start. He is given to Kahale, a Power Plant worker who's due a promotion, as a ward to train. Kahale is a very professional and dry man and his personality clashes with Joel's almost immediately. While Kahale gives Joel a tour of the Power Plant, they meet Tsubaki, a beautiful Power Plant worker and Joel immediately starts flirting with xir. To Kahale's dismay, Joel keeps finding moments to run off from him to go talk to Tsubaki.
In Mala's secret lab, Makoto's stream plays for Jaimal as he sleeps. Aditi is also watching the stream, while browsing through old photos of Jaimal. Nursimo and Niran are keeping busy working on prosthetics together. On the stream, Makoto reminisces when Jaimal and Mala met. In the lab, Jaimal slowly stirs and opens his eyes.
Makoto closes the stream and gets a call from her manager, Kayden. He tells her that he has news from the AdvenCrew. Makoto got the part in Adventure Dog. Makoto is ecstatic.
In Nursimo's workshop, Niran asks Nursimo if Nursimo has been flirting with him. Nursimo, flustered, admits that he's been flirting with Niran for a few years. Niran is embarrassed that he had no idea. Nursimo tells him that he can ignore the whole exchange, but Niran asks if he can kiss him. The two kiss and stumble onto the floor.
Mala goes to her secret lab after work and sees Jaimal's eyes open. Mala hurries to open the capsule and the two have a short conversation before Jaimal falls back asleep.
Aditi calls Mala and Mala has a hard time holding herself together. Aditi is worried, but Mala reassures her she's fine. Mala invites Aditi for dinner so they can talk about it. Aditi gladly accepts.
The Badawis arrive at the Mosque and are immediately surrounded by people giving them their condolences. With the Mosque goers and Eins, the imani, the funeral is planned and prepared within one conversation before the mass. The funeral is settled to be held the next day.
After Kahale's work day, Michael asks him how orienting Joel went. Kahale admits that dealing with Joel has been like herding cats. Michael doesn't seem surprised to hear this.
After Mosque, the Badawis return to the investigation. Beatrice, Qianfan, Orlando and Angelo go to Lucky Jack's Casino to meet Jaqueline. One of the guards at the casino is Delano, who Orlando also seems to recognize, despite not having met him the previous day. Delano brings the group to Jaqueline's office, and Orlando slips away with him as Beatrice, Qianfan and Angelo step into the office. Beatrice asks Jaqueline if she knows anything about Zeus. Jaqueline knows something, but she wants something from the Badawis first. Jaqueline asks the Badawis to investigate Lieselotte Meyer, the famous philanthropist, to find any kind of dirt on her. Beatrice tells Jaqueline that the Badawis aren't blackmailers, but Jaqueline says that she has a legitimate reason for wanting to ruin Meyer's reputation. She believes that Meyer is doing something evil beyond gentrifying the lower levels of the city. Meyer says she wants to keep the city safe, but she backs up legislation that will only screw the lower levels over, along with people who don't fit her view of a safe Lightmore. Jaqueline wants to stop her plans. With this reasoning, Beatrice can't help but begrudgingly agree to her terms.
Orlando has known Delano for some time now. He met him three years ago, after Orlando had just gotten out of a job and so exhausted that he wasn't working with full mental capacity. He bumped into Delano by accident in the red lights district. Orlando blurted to him that he hadn't slept in three days and Delano told him that he can help. Delano took Orlando to a love hotel and gave him a massage. Orlando turned down the "happy end", though.
In present day, Orlando and Delano are standing in awkward silence. Orlando tries to initiate conversation, but Delano tells him that he tries to keep his clients at an arm's distance. Orlando offers to stop buying his services now that he's overstepped Delano's boundaries by accident. Delano doesn't mind either way. Beatrice interrupts them and tells Orlando that they're going to investigate Meyer now. Delano pales hearing the name.
The Badawis gather up at Beatrice's apartment to plan their next action. They start by looking into if Meyer has any offshore accounts. The name Zeus seems to remind Camila about an incident a few years ago. There was a pharmaceutical company that got caught disposing of dangerous substances carelessly. The company was called Hellenic Pharmaceutical. There was some buzz about it for a while, then the company just seemed to disappear before any arrests or trials were done about it. Beatrice deems it suspicious. The premises where Hellenic used to operate are still unused, which is also very suspicious. Orlando and Angelo volunteer to look into it.
Orlando and Angelo, dressed as cleaners, sneak into the building where Hellenic worked at and it still seems like it's still in operation, although very empty of people. Snooping around in some computers, Orlando finds reports about spontaneous mutations, especially inducing them on purpose in mice. Orlando also finds a mention about a "patron". Orlando saves the files on a flashdrive and tries to find out who this patron is. Unfortunately, he is interrupted by a man in labcoat before he can find anything. Orlando and Angelo greet the man cheerfully and leave the building.
While Orlando and Angelo were sneaking around, Qianfan's sister-in-law Isabella found out that Meyer's finances seem to be clean, but that just means that they have to dig deeper. The family agrees to find Meyer's ex-PA and talk to her to see if she knows anything. After the funeral, that is.
The funeral is held in solemn atmosphere. Thankfully, even Sofia (Beatrice's sister-in-law, Orlando and Lorenzo's mother), Lorenzo (Orlando's brother) and Leonardo (Beatrice's younger brother, Isabella's father, Qianfan's father-in-law), the Badawis that are still hospitalized, could make it to the funeral. Angelo and Camila think about Beatrice's offer again. They decide to agree, although Camila feels like they have no other choice. Sofia tells Orlando and Lorenzo how she met their father.
Grayson's group head out to the streets to continue looking for the body. Wick asks where they should start their search, and Grayson gives an oddly specific answer. Nova asks him about it, and Grayson gives a noncommital answer about having asked his mother (who is a late-night clairvoyant) for advice. The group eventually does find the body of the man they were looking for, wedged between two buildings in a narrow nook. They call Yuuji. With Yuuji's help they manage to wrench the body out of the crook and take him to the morgue. In the morgue, the dead person's daughters come by and confirm that it is their father. Grayson handles the situation so well that Yuuji compliments him on it.
Kahale continues trying to train Joel, but Joel still seems to be more interested in flirting with Tsubaki than learning his new job. Kahale gives him a lecture about his work ethics and sexual harassment, but Joel doesn't seem to take it seriously.
Lieselotte meets Prime, a shady tech implant engineer for lunch and asks him to find someone for her. The name Lieselotte gives Prime is Delano Yamada.
After the funeral, Valeria texts Beatrice and asks how she's doing. Bearice tells her that she wants something to distract herself from her thoughts. Valeria offers to help with that and suggests a girls' night out: shopping, tasty treats and makeovers. Beatrice agrees to it. At the same time, Angelo and Camila tell Beatrice that they agree to Beatrice's offer. Angelo and Camila get a "promotion" to the main Badawi family, which means that they need to be trained. Since they don't have their weapons yet, Beatrice decides to take Angelo and Camila along to her and Valeria's girls' night out. Valeria seems a little surprised about this, but rolls with it.
Beatrice takes the group to a warehouse/shooting range, which Valeria finds a little harder to deal with. Camila doesn't seem too keen about having to have a gun, either. She brings it up to Beatrice who tells her that not wanting to have a gun is the best mindset for having a gun. Beatrice tells Camila that she can use the gun as she sees fit, be it very little or none at all. Camila begrudgingly agrees to take the gun, lock it away and never touch it again. Angelo and Camila take a few practice shots with their new guns before Beatrice pays for them. Valeria asks Beatrice why she's here. Beatrice tells her that Valeria offered to take her shopping and this is shopping. Camila overhears this and tells Beatrice to go and actually have fun with Valeria.
So Angelo and Camila go back home and Valeria takes Beatrice to a bubble tea place. As they're waiting for their drinks, Valeria suggests to take Beatrice to get her nails done. Beatrice agrees. They do just that: Beatrice gets wasp themed nails and Valeria gets citrus themed nails. The conversation drifts to dating, and Beatrice admits that she hasn't been on a date in years. Valeria thinks this is a travesty and immediately offers to take Beatrice on a date. She has a special place that she wants to take Beatrice to, but when Beatrice suggests going there, Valeria says they should go somewhere else first. So Beatrice suggests the library.
The library is closed, but Beatrice gets them in with her library card. Beatrice gets herself a detective novel and Valeria remembers a fantasy novel from her youth that she loved reading. Beatrice helps her find it. They find the book and Valeria reads Beatrice some of it. This flusters Beatrice for some reason. After that, Valeria finds the room with instruments and she wants to try the drums. She mentions that she knows a few people who have a band, but are missing a drummer. Valeria wants to try if she could learn the drums and start being their drummer. Beatrice watches Valeria drum, growing more and more flustered. However, Beatrice also remembers that she buried a large part of her family just earlier today, and the mood of the date is ruined. Valeria offers to take Beatrice home. She promises to take Beatrice to her special date location some other time. Valeria kisses Beatrice's cheek before wishing her goodnight.
Michael is holding a meeting with Joel and Kahale. He asks Kahale how training Joel is going. Kahale admits that it's still not working out, but Joel needs more time, experience and training. Michael tells him that he'll have a talk with Joel. Kahale seems sceptical, but he thinks that he can get Joel into the right mindset with a month or two. After the meeting, Michael takes Joel into a highly restricted area of the Power Plant. Tsubaki and Kahale watch them via security cameras. When Michael and Joel emerge from the restricted area, Joel is clearly shaken and rattled, so much so that he has to sit on the floor. Michael doesn't seem concerned about his state and nudges him to get back to his feet. The two leave, leaving baffled Tsubaki and Kahale.
Oh wow, that was a lot! But now you're caught up on the first year of Lightmore. I think we're about three quarters done of the story that I have planned for this season. Thank you for reading this far and continuing to read. I started writing this for myself mostly, but I'm glad that other people are coming along as well.

MC Patronus
I was tagged by @carewyncromwell on a post for MC patronuses! I, sadly, don't really talk about most of my characters because I'm hyperfixacted on mostly one character 😅
I'll only do this for my Hogwarts Legacy and Hogwarts Mystery MCs. Anyways, let's get to it!
I can't find the original docs I made for my MCs' patronus so majority of this was a copy paste from the site I use to figure out their patronus.
What's My Spirit Animal?
McQuaid/Mac Uaid
Tumblr media
I mentioned in the Mac Uaid family crest that the wolf is part of the emblem and how every McQuaid's patronus is a wolf.
As a spirit animal, the wolf comes to support and teach us about matters of personal power, balance, self-control, and our animal instincts.
Wolves are misunderstood by many to be aggressive, vicious animals who attack with no provocation. Nothing could be further from the truth.
In fact, wolves go out of their way to avoid fights. However, when they want to be heard, when they want to stave off or deter an attacker, they will stand their ground.
Wolves are incredible examples of standing in the seat of your own power. They let predators know that they can fight to the death and are prepared to do so but they rarely initiate combat.
The wolf sometimes appears when we face challenges for which we feel less than prepared. The wolf reminds you that you have all the tools in your spiritual treasure chest to handle this effectively.
For seekers who feel afraid or threatened, the wolf reminds us of how those feelings put our entire psyche off balance. Yes, fear plays an important role in personal safety unless it becomes all-consuming or is baseless. Don’t let the darkness consume your spirit.
Sometimes the wolf calls on us to become the Lone Wolf, who breaks away from the pack to discover the Sacred Self. During times of aloneness, you rediscover your dreams and passions. You also start uncovering the true self and voice that howls at the moon with abandonment!
Humans are animals, and sometimes we overlook the gifts from nature that are already within us. Life has an order and rhythm. When you run with a pack, there is a sense of community, and when you’re alone – liberation.
Those who walk with the wolf sometimes don’t trust themselves as much as they should. When you find yourself falling into that emotional pattern, rely on your keen mind and logic to renew balance.
The key caution for wolf people is your predatory nature. Now, here’s the thing about a wolf’s “predatory” nature – they mostly focus on taking down the weak, sick, and elderly.
Rarely will a Wolf prey on a strong, mature adult. Surely nature has a reason for this, but in terms of symbolism for humans, the lesson here is to make sure that you do not choose to prey on those who are not able to stand against you.
Rohan Mac Uaid (Hogwarts Legacy)
The Gray Wolf is Rohan's patronus. As his patronus is the gray wolf, he is constantly transforming himself, improving himself as he encounters the lessons and challenges of life.
The gray wolf is the wolf who stands at the Western Door. The winds of change will gently flow through the life of the gray wolf soul, stirring him to greet the change with the knowledge of the lessons that such transitional times will herald. The gray wolf soul understands that change is merely growth, an essential part of life, and thus, embraces change easily.
McQuaids with the gray wolf patronus doesn't strain to see what is not yet visible on the other side, merely acknowledges that the changes will surely take place and that the choices he/she makes, will fashion the path they take.
The individual with the totem of the gray wolf understands the importance of protecting and nurturing life in all of its varied and brilliant forms. He is the soul that desires to be of service to others and thus enters a profession which will be in alignment with these principles. She is the soul who desires to nurture the spark of soul awareness in the other members of her society, so as to ensure the survival of the species. In whatever form this urge of guardianship manifests itself, the gray wolf totem will always strive to be of benefit to the whole.
The wolf soul is one who understands the depth of connection with another, be it mate, friend or family member. These individuals will tend to be monogamous in nature. If a mate is not found that shares this same sense of loyalty, then the wolf totem will choose to live as a solitary wolf yet will still have deep and abiding bonds with friends and/or family.
The gray wolf totem is drawn to individuals who possess the ability to employ rational thought coupled with intuitive understanding. As he walks through life, wolf soul uses his keen intelligence to assess issues and situations which demand resolution. He then follows the prompts he receives from his own higher sense of knowing to achieve necessary growth and learning.
Rohan has quite a fierce temper and often scolds others for their incompetence. After meeting Avis, her gentle nature melting his heart of ice, Rohan shows more self restraint in terms of his emotions. He cares little about status or tradition, and merely judges others solely based on their knowledge, skill and loyalty.
Coby McQuaid (Hogwarts Mystery)
Coby's patronus is the Arctic Wolf. It is said that at the door of each of the Four Winds, a wolf keeps silent vigil, each bringing change to the life of those who walk the good Red Road and with the change, a lesson unique to that wind.
The arctic wolf is the Wolf of the North Winds. He stands quietly in rigid determination, unyielding at times, much as the barren landscapes of his home appear to resist the beginning of Spring.  She is a soul that is comfortable with her surroundings and therefore sees no “reason” to change.
Yet the promise of the North Wind is wisdom unfolding through gratitude and acknowledgment. This is the direction in which wisdom is sifted from the sands of experience and then fashioned into a red staff of manifestation that wields personal potential. Therefore, if the white wolf soul can accept change when it appears, yet remain true to his/her values, then the higher vibration of wisdom and truth can emerge from beneath stubborn resistance like shoots of sweet summer grass bursting forth from a blanket of winter’s snow. Thus, personal power can be embraced, understood and ultimately, the soul’s individual potential manifested.
The individual with the arctic wolf as their power totem is one who is capable of withstanding numerous challenges and setbacks, only to emerge stronger than before. It is little wonder that these souls will often face adversity in their lives in order to build the resilience with which to overcome obstacles? Paradoxically, they are also gentle souls with a great deal of emotional sensitivity . . . and this is the area in which they are likely to encounter their greatest lessons. Yet by calling upon the inner strength and resilience of the arctic wolf, they can triumph and raise their heads with gratitude to the loving rays of the sun.
The arctic wolf soul is an individual who is capable of performing nearly miraculous bouts of stamina that would weary other souls as he travels the good Red Road. He possesses within him the ability to push his body and mind to the limits, and in fact, can appear to even derive pleasure from doing so.
With each new goal that has been met, the arctic wolf individual will then set his/her sights on the next task at hand. Preferably the new goal will be even more challenging than the one just completed, as this engenders the acknowledgment within their own reasoning that they are worthy of that which has been given to them, yet the truth of the matter is that anything they have received, has been honestly won.
Veruca McQuaid (Hogwarts Mystery)
The Arctic Wolf is Veruca's patronus. Although she shares the same patronus as her brother, the patronus takes on a different meaning. The Arctic Wolf patronus Veruca has, is the shadow to the alpha Arctic Wolf. So even with her patronus, Veruca is still in Coby's shadow.
When manifesting as a shadow totem, the arctic wolf brings lessons in life experience that will tend to build up a defensive wall around the shadow wolf soul. These individuals enter onto the Red Road with a good deal of vulnerability, in many instances a higher degree of sensitivity to their environments than most. Yet, as time goes by, extremely painful circumstances are met that will either construct a fortress of solitude or a friendly barrier that keeps others at a “safe” distance, thereby decreasing the chances that the individual may once again be hurt.
McQuaids who have the arctic wolf patronus are stoic and resolute individuals who appear to bear any storm with a spirit of strength and perseverance. And indeed, they are quite capable of enduring many hardships, yet the true lesson for the arctic wolf is the act of maintaining a certain measure of vulnerability in the face of the brutal lessons they encounter.
Though those with the arctic wolf patronus are naturally geared toward a mostly solitary existence, they will have a couple, to a few close & trusted friends that will be more like family members than their own biological family. The reason for this is due to the fact that the shadow arctic wolf soul will often grow up in a family that is either highly dysfunctional, or in circumstances where one or both parents are absent, be this as in the sense that the parental figures are deceased, or where the mother and father are emotionally unavailable.
Veruca isn't as close to her mother as she is with her father. Though she loves her just as much, she can't help but feel like a second thought compared to Coby. Carson is a close friend to Veruca that they consider each other siblings. Veruca even refers to the Iveys as her second family and addresses Mr. and Mrs. Ivey as mom and dad.
Again, trust is hard to earn from those who own an arctic wolf patronus, and bonds once forged in trust will rarely be broken unless there is an extreme betrayal on the part of their loved one. The ultimate challenge of these individuals is to learn to be open, vulnerable and trusting in the face of a lifetime of lessons in rejection, disillusionment, and betrayal. Yet it is interesting that these people will often be the ones to break off relationships, and are seldom the one to be “left behind.”
Right after graduation, Veruca leaves everyone behind to find her own peace and come to terms with everything that has happened. After finding her peace, she comes back to reconcile and reunite with everyone else. While on her own journey, her patronus ends up changing to match Diego's patronus.
Carson Ivey (Hogwarts Mystery)
Carson's patronus is the owl, specifically the Brown Owl. The owl cannot be deceived, which is why this spirit animal reminds us to remain true to ourselves, our voice, and our vision. The owl spirit does not tolerate illusion or secrets.
Being Veruca's best friend, it's a given Carson knows what's truly going on with her. Though it's pretty easy for him to read the moods of someone, he's not one to pry into someone's personal affairs.
The owl is a symbol of being able to navigate any darkness in our life; this spirit brings clarity, prophetic inklings, and a strong connection with the mystical world.
Those with the owl patronus have the opportunity to become far more observant. Being able to notice a lot of important details that previously eluded you. The world is filled with layers of symbolism and meaning, and the owl gives you “new” eyes with which to see those.
As a spirit animal, the owl often calls on us to release the past and put down burdens that hold us back. You have to face your shadows and fears, then move beyond them to find true happiness.
Owls don’t just honor us with the ability of “Second Sight." These majestic birds have hearing that is quite literally “perfect stereo." The owl as a spirit animal guide can aid you in hearing what is really being said despite the words and emotions coming from the messenger.
The owl spirit can help support you when the time to speak your truth has arrived. Remember, owls are birds of prey, and little stops them when they set their sites on “the prize.” What or whom do you have your heart set on? Focus, patience, and stillness can win the day.
Invoke owl energy when you need to see all the details of what or who is coming toward you and what is right in front of you.
Carson may be chaotic with his personality, but he can be patient to analyze and assess a situation. He's quite stubborn, might be because his childhood friend is Veruca and he picked up on her own stubbornness, but he will continue to push for what he stands for.
In Celtic mythology, owls knew the way to the underworld and were fierce defenders of truth and honor. The owl has no tolerance for deception, even when we are deceiving ourselves.
The Celtic Owl was tied closely to the ancient Goddess of fertility. It frequently appears in knotwork and bestiaries, being revered for its ability to see in the dark and acting as a messenger between humans and the Divine.
Avis Ni Conraoi (Hogwarts Legacy)
Avis' patronus is the butterfly. Those with the butterfly patronus means it's time for personal growth and greater awareness of mental, physical, and spiritual rhythms. Change can sometimes be challenging and daunting because it moves us out of our comfort zone.
You cannot embrace a “new you” until you release the old. With the butterfly spirit, you’ll find that you can fly gracefully above the barriers that would otherwise hold you back.
The Conraois are quite a spiritually oriented family one can say. They don't appear to worry over minor things that can cause someone to stress out to the point of exhaustion. Avis, herself, lives her life freely with no worries. Life is too short for her to take a slow path and be cautious of everything. She simply goes with the flow, following where the wind takes her on a new journey.
The butterfly as a teacher puts great emphasis on movement: Be it blossom-to-blossom, home-to-home, or one state in our spiritual exploration to another.
An old Irish blessing says,
“May the wings of the butterfly kiss the sun, and find your shoulder to light on.
To bring you luck, happiness, and riches today, tomorrow and beyond.”
Throughout Celtic regions, the butterfly represents prosperity, joy, good fortune, and honor. Butterflies also symbolizes the soul. So much was the case that harming a white butterfly was against the law in Ireland because of the belief it bore a dead child’s spirit.
The butterfly often turns our thoughts inward to review elements of our character, morals, and habits that weigh us down, keeping us stuck in a mire of negative energy.
The goal of the winged ally is restoring lightness in your being so you can dance life’s dance with unbridled joy!
People with a butterfly as their patronus have a natural lightness of spirit! They love the beauty of nature and are guided by the greatest good when it comes to maintaining balance with the environment.
Avis is normally against violence, opting to be an advocate of peace. Though if that peace has been disturbed, she will take on a more passive aggressive attitude to protect that peace.
With the butterfly patronus, you’ll find that you’re better equipped to look at difficult situations from another angle. As you fly on her wings, your perspective becomes more global and hopeful.
Butterfly people are naturally social, colorful, and vibrant. They endeavor to live each moment to the fullest.
