Emmrich had busied himself too much in observing Manfred making a tincture to notice Rook enter and drop to the floor in front of the mage's high backed chair, until he feels something press against his knee. He startles to Rook grabbing behind his knee and pressing a kiss to it, then moving just so up his thigh, sighing and leaving a trail of soft tired kisses behind.

Emmrich eased, stroking Rook's hair, earning another sigh. "Emmrich."

The way they said his name sent a shiver through him. "Rook."

When Rook looked up at him, the utter adoration that shone in their eyes took his breath as they took his palm and kissed it. "Just, needed you." They hummed moving to trail kisses on his stomach and chest. It was Emmrich's turn to sigh, closing his eyes. "Who am I to deny you?"

Dying at Jason's last line in the series being:

"He'll be a better Robin than I was."

Like yes, it's a great way to acknowledge that he is mentally and emotionally passing the crown onto Tim - but Jason still has so much pain that he's never gotten over.

When he first runs into Tim, he outright refuses to work with him because "I don't team anymore" - just the idea of working in a team is painful for him. And like that last line - it's so clear that Jason blames himself for everything that happened while he was Robin instead of letting the incompetence of the adults around him take some of that blame.

He thinks he was just a terrible Robin and that's why so many bad things happened to him. He thinks that's why Deathstroke targeted him, why Rose couldn't love him and wouldn't stay with him, why Bruce wouldn't let him continue to be Robin - he thinks that it is all due to his personal flaws rather than a stage of issues that was set long before he arrived.

I just (loud sobbing in the distance).

The fact that the show ended with Jason and Gar working independently from the family when they are the ones who need it the most kills me. Just murder me - stab me through my fucking heart, why don't you!!
