EXCLUSIVE: Oscar-winning producers See-Saw Films (The King’s Speech) are gearing up on Tenzing, about the inspirational life of Sherpa Tenzing Norgay and his summit of Mount Everest in 1953 alongside fellow outsider New Zealander Edmund Hillary.

A search is currently underway to cast the lead role of Tenzing Norgay who will star alongside BAFTA-nominated Tom Hiddleston (Loki) as Sir Edmund Hillary, and Oscar winner Willem Dafoe (Poor Things) as the English expedition leader, Colonel John Hunt.

Tenzing comes from filmmaker Jennifer Peedom who has the exclusive rights to tell Tenzing’s story via his family and has a close relationship with the Sherpa community after making acclaimed documentary Sherpa.

After six previous attempts, Tenzing risked everything for one final venture. He had to navigate treacherous politics and perilous weather as he embarked on the most significant climb of his life. Through it all, he did so with humor, warmth, and generosity towards his fellow climbers, but also deep reverence and respect for the sacred Mother Goddess of his Mountain, Chomolungma.

This will be one of the hot projects at next week’s Cannes market where Rocket Science will be handling international sales in partnership with Cross City Films, See-Saw’s in-house sales arm. UTA Independent Film Group and Cross City Films are co-repping the U.S. sale. We understand filming is being lined up for spring 2025.

Marcia Gay Harden Joins Sophie Turner & Kit Harington In Gothic Horror Film ‘The Dreadful’

Academy Award winner Marcia Gay Harden (The Morning Show) is set to star opposite Game of Thrones‘ Sophie Turner and Kit Harington in The Dreadful, a gothic horror film on which we were first to report, which is now in production in England.

Set against the backdrop of the War of the Roses, The Dreadful follows Anne (Turner) and her sinister mother-in-law Morwen (Harden), who live a solitary, harsh life on the outskirts of society. But when a man (Harington) from their past returns, he sets off a sequence of horrifying events that become a turning point for Anne.

Launching sales at EFM earlier this year, through UTA Independent Film Group and Film Bridge International, the film’s cast will also include Laurence O’Fuarain (The Gentlemen) and Jonathan Howard (Godzilla: King of the Monsters). Natasha Kermani (Lucky, V/H/S/85) is directing from her own script.

Following a highly successful collaboration on Hulu’s Pam & Tommy, Sebastian Stan and Lily James are set to reteam on Let the Evil Go West, a psychological horror thriller from director Christian Tafdrup (Speak No Evil).

north.five.six. reps the film’s international rights and will introduce it to buyers at Cannes, while CAA Media Finance and UTA Independent Film Group arranged the financing and will handle the domestic sale.

Let the Evil Go West follows a railroad worker who stumbles upon a fortune under deeply disturbing circumstances. As horrifying visions and manifestations drive him toward madness, his wife becomes convinced that an evil presence has attached itself to their family.

Xc Vs penned the script. Tim and Trevor White (King Richard, Fair Play) are producing under their Star Thrower Entertainment banner, alongside Mark Fasano and Nathan Klingher for Gramercy Park Media, which is also financing the film, and Allan Mandelbaum. Stan and James will also executive produce along with Gramercy Park’s Joshua Harris and Ford Corbett and north.five.six.’s Michael Rothstein and Samuel Hall.

Playing Tommy Lee to James’s Pamela Anderson in Hulu’s award winner Pam & Tommy, Stan will next be seen starring in A Different Man, which won him Berlin’s Silver Bear after world premiering to much buzz at Sundance 2024. A24 will release the pic in September. Also coming up for the actor is Ali Abbassi’s The Apprentice, an anticipated title that has him playing a young Donald Trump, which will premiere in competition at the 2024 Cannes Film Festival.

In a big deal that closed in the days leading into this week’s Cannes market, Apple Original Films has landed worldwide rights to Tenzing, the new package we told you about last week starring Tom Hiddleston and Willem Dafoe.

The question we asked today was whether the U.S. buyers would come to play for the Cannes market projects and we have an answer already.

Felicity joined the cast of Julia Jackman’s ‘100 NIGHTS OF HERO’ alongside Amir El-Masry, Richard E. Grant, Nicholas Galitzine, Emma Corrin, Maika Monroe and Charli xcx. She is also one of the executive producers of the movie.

Principal photography wrapped in England recently.

Dylan O’Brien Sets ‘Twinless’ With James Sweeney Directing & Starring; Republic Pictures Takes Global On Three Point Capital & David Permut Production

EXCLUSIVE: Dylan O’Brien is set to headline in James Sweeney‘s dark comedy Twinless, which the latter wrote and will also star in. Republic Pictures has taken global rights to the movie. Cameras are currently rolling on the movie in Portland, OR. O’Brien will executive produce.

The pic follows two young men who meet in a twin bereavement support group. An unlikely bromance develops between them. Twinless follow Sweeney’s directorial debut, Straight Up, which notched the filmmaker a Best First Screenplay nom at the 2021 Independent Spirit Awards.

Three Point Capital is financing the film with Ali Jazayeri, David Gendron and Liz Destro also serving as EPs.

Twinless is produced by Academy Award nominated producer David Permut and Permut Presentations (Hacksaw Ridge, Face/Off) whose most recent Netflix movie, Rustin, garnered Colman Domingo a Best Actor Oscar nomination.

Miky Lee (Parasite) Vice Chairwoman of CJ and who most recently executive produced the Oscar nominated film Past Lives, serves as EP.

Permut Presentations Director Of Development Alex Astrachan co-produces.

Permut said, “I was absolutely knocked out by James’ first film Straight Up and was determined to work with him. I immediately responded to the originality and provocative concept of Twinless. The dark comedy depicts complex characters in such an irreverent, emotional and hysterical way. The chemistry between Dylan, who portrays the role of identical twin brothers, opposite James’ character is absolutely combustible.”

O’Brien’s most recent film is the independent feature Ponyboi, in which he plays a villainous pimp and small-time drug dealer, recently premiered at the Sundance Film Festival. He will next be seen in the upcoming films SNL 1975 (from director Jason Reitman) as Dan Aykroyd, Caddo Lake (from the writing-directing team of Logan George and Celine Held, and producer M. Night Shyamalan), and Anniversary (a thriller co-starring Diane Lane, Kyle Chandler, Zoey Deutch and Phoebe Dynevor). The $1.7 billion grossing star is well-known to audiences from his work in The Maze Runner franchise, as well as the hit MTV series Teen Wolf.

Permut also recently produced the Paramount+ series hit, Lawman: Bass Reeves from Taylor Sheridan, which stars SAG nominee David Oyelowo. His upcoming high priority slate includes Being Heumann written and directed by Academy Award winner Sian Heder (CODA) at Apple, Jonathan Dayton and Valerie Faris’ (Little Miss Sunshine) film The Invite, and Face/Off II at Paramount, the sequel to Permut’s 1997 hit film, to be directed by Adam Wingard.

Yay, a new project of Sam's!

Set in December 1944 against the war-torn Belgian landscape as World War II pushes toward a brutal climax, “Perdition” follows the journey of a lone American soldier (Claflin), who miraculously survives a POW camp execution. As he ventures into the bone-chilling landscape to save himself and a precious cargo salvaged from the camp, a ruthless Nazi SS officer on horseback (Friend) discovers his tracks and becomes obsessed with hunting him down.

Brings to mind Journey's End, where he also played a soldier, but in WW1. One of his best performances.

Sam is also executive producing. Seems that he is liking the job!

'EXCLUSIVE: Emmy and Golden Globe nominees Greta Lee (Past Lives) and Andrew Scott (All of Us Strangers) have inked deals to star in My Notes on Mars, a sci-fi romance marking the first English-language feature from renowned Hungarian filmmaker Lili Horvát (Preparations to Be Together for an Unknown Period of Time).

Set to shoot between Budapest and Vienna next spring, Horvát’s latest centers on Margot (Lee), a brilliant young scientist with a troubled marriage, who disappears inexplicably while hiking with her husband Sam (Scott) and a group of friends. A few weeks later, she miraculously reappears the day of her own memorial service. Margot is clearly not the same as before the accident. Nevertheless, Sam sees his wife’s miraculous reappearance as a second chance.

For Horvát, the film is “a story about the labyrinthine human psyche, about the ever-changing faces of love. To start over a marriage, to rediscover the other, to fall in love again — our story is about the grueling realization of this impossible desire.”

Noting that she’s “particularly drawn to characters who dare to make surprising, unconventional choices in both their private and professional lives,” the filmmaker added, “I feel that this is true for Greta and Andrew as well. It is an incredible honor for me that I can accompany them on the journey of creating Margot and Sam Fogel.”...

Lee gave one of the best performances of last year in A24’s romantic drama Past Lives, earning the Santa Barbara Film Festival’s Virtuoso Award for her work, as well as nominations at the Golden Globes, Critics’ Choice Awards, Independent Spirit Awards and Gotham Awards. Otherwise perhaps best known for her Emmy-nominated work on The Morning Show, the actress will next be seen in Disney’s Tron: Ares and Kathryn Bigelow’s still-untitled new film for Netflix.

Scott is currently up for two Emmys as the producer and star of Netflix’s stellar Steven Zaillian miniseries Ripley. Prior to the crime thriller’s April debut, he was seen staring opposite Paul Mescal in Andrew Haigh’s acclaimed romantic fantasy All of Us Strangers, a Searchlight title for which he was nominated for a Golden Globe. EXCLUSIVE: Sheryl Lee Ralph (Abbott Elementary), Timothy V. Murphy (Appaloosa) and Bruce Greenwood (The Fall of the House of Usher) have boarded The Fabulous Four, a new comedy from Bleecker Street, which has entered production in Georgia under an Interim Agreement from SAG-AFTRA.

The actors join an ensemble that also includes Susan Sarandon, Bette Midler, and Megan Mullally, as previously announced. Ralph takes over the role of Sissy Spacek, who was attached as of last fall but was forced to drop out due to scheduling conflicts. Bleecker Street nabbed North American rights to the pic last October and will release the film in U.S. theaters in 2024. UTA Independent Film Group and CAA Media Finance arranged the financing and brokered the deal for U.S. rights, with Sierra/Affinity repping international sales.

Written and directed by Jocelyn Moorhouse, the Cannes prize-winner best known for her Kate Winslet pic The Dressmaker, the film follows three life-long friends (Sarandon, Mullally, and Ralph) who travel to Key West, Florida to be bridesmaids in a surprise wedding of their college girlfriend Marilyn (Midler). Once there, sisterhoods are rekindled, the past rises up again in all its glory, and there are enough sparks, drinks and romance to change all their lives in ways they never expected.

Richard Barton Lewis’ Southpaw Entertainment is producing alongside Lauren Hantz of Hantz Motion Pictures.

An icon of stage and screen, Ralph has won an Emmy and numerous other accolades for her portrayal of kindergarten teacher Barbara Howard on Abbott Elementary, the ABC mockumentary that has emerged as one the most popular scripted series on linear. The show, created by and starring Quinta Brunson, was renewed for a third season in January but only recently returned to the writers’ room, following the conclusion of the WGA strike. Otherwise perhaps best known for her Tony-nominated turn as Deena Jones in Broadway’s Dreamgirls, Ralph has also been seen in Mistress with Robert de Niro, To Sleep with Anger with Danny Glover, The Distinguished Gentlemen with Eddie Murphy, and Sister Act 2 with Whoopi Goldberg, along with such series as Moesha and Ray Donovan.

Most recently recurring on Law & Order: Organized Crime and ABC’s The Company You Keep, Murphy previously reprised his role in Uni’s comedy MacGruber on the same-name Peacock series. Other recent credits for the actor on the TV side include S.W.A.T., Snowpiercer, Westworld, and True Detective, to name just a few. Additional feature credits include In Full Bloom, The Lone Ranger, and National Treasure: Book of Secrets.

Greenwood puts in a stellar turn as Fortunato Pharmaceuticals CEO Roderick Usher in Netflix’s Edgar Allen Poe-inspired miniseries The Fall of the House of Usher from Mike Flanagan, which bowed on the platform earlier this month. He also recently starred in the Fox medical drama The Resident, which ran for six seasons, and will soon appear in fantasy pic The Invisibles with Tim Blake Nelson and Gretchen Mol, among other projects.

At this year’s Toronto Film Festival, Bleecker Street nabbed U.S. rights to James Hawes’ One Life, starring Anthony Hopkins, and the starry British comedy Fackham Hall, which goes into production next year. The company also locked down UK rights, alongside Elysian Film Group and Anonymous Content, to Hayao Miyazaki’s The Boy and the Heron. Upcoming releases include the Meg Ryan-helmed rom-com What Happens Later, coming to theaters November 3, which she leads with David Duchovny, and Sara Bareilles and Jessie Nelson’s Waitress: The Musical, out December 7 with Fathom Events.

Gordon Michaels was born in Detroit, Michigan. His father is of Italian, Irish, and Jewish decent and his Mother is of Cuban ancestry. Michaels spent most of his youth in Michigan and graduated from John Glenn High School where he played basketball for the Junior Varsity and Varsity teams and still holds the school record for most rebounds in a game (27). As a teenager, Michaels spent a lot of after school time practicing and performing as lead singer for his Detroit garage band Flash Experience. The group performed at some high school events as well as various venues around metro Detroit. Michaels love for both writing and performing music is something very close to his heart. In fact, he's written a number of songs over the years and looks forward to taking them into the studio to record.

After attending a performance of a community theater production of Man of La Mancha, Michael's was stung by the acting bug. In 1986 Michaels became a graduate of the prestigious Neighborhood Playhouse School of the Theater in New York City where he studied under world renowned acting teacher Sanford Meisner. Michaels spent a number of years under the tutelage of Uta Hagen and Herbert Bergoff at the renowned HB Studio in New York City.
