My 2c on the trans military ban
Anyone who does not prove themselves to be fit for service physically or mentally either while enlisting or during training and of course during combat should not be be allowed to be deployed into combat. Anyone. We all agree on this. If a trans person shows signs depression or mental instability than that trans person should not be allowed to go into combat. But just that one; Trans people, like all people should not be judged by their worst examples, but on a case-by-case basis. There's all kinds of people that should not be admitted, USMEPCOM exists for a reason. Comparable example: Native Americans suffer from alcohol use disorders disproportionately more than others. But we wouldn't defend a ban on Native Americans from enlisting because they are statistically more likely to get drunk. Individuals should not be held guilty in advance for the actions of other people, the fifth amendment is a thing. In the military people should be judged not based on who or what they are, but based on what they can do. Are you a man, a woman, straight, gay, black, white? Doesn't matter. Are you physically fit for duty, can you work under pressure, can you follow orders - that's what matters. There are many things from color blindness or to bipolar disorder that prevent you from passing those standards, yes having gender dysphoria (as it is no small matter) can be one of them, but it is not certainly one of them. What's more, no one is asking that the military conform to trans people, simply that trans people are allowed the same opportunity as everyone else. They want to be able to be scrutinized by the same filters, pass the same training, meet the sam standards, follow the same protocol. If they fail, then they fail and should not be sent into combat, but they should have a right. There are as many as 15 000 trans people employed in the military, so if these soldiers were really be so unstable there would be constant reoccurring instances of trans soldiers whose condition interfered with their service after they have been cleared for duty, but this has yet to be the case. What’s more, there's no shortage of trans soldiers with distinguished military careers, such as Kristin Beck, who was in Seal Team Six, deployed int combat seven times, and was awarded the bronze star. Here’s a video about Air Force staff sergeant Logan Ireland: no special treatment, no unorthodox service, just a soldier like any soldier.
youtube
And allowing trans soldiers to serve is not a ‘social experiment’, just as allowing homosexuals to serve was not a social experiment, just as desegregating the military was noz a social experiment; it's their right as citizens if they prove themselves to be able-bodied. And if it were a social experiment then it has been going on for a long time and the results are in: trans soldiers perform their duties reliably, they're not ticking time bombs that snap under pressure.
As for the money angle where it’s argued that trans soldiers are a financial burden as their treatment is paid by tax dollars... That’s a fair discussion to have, but if your main concern really is taxpayer dollars, well... have you heard about the absolute development and production disaster that is the F-35? Your taxpayer-money saving efforts are not being put to best use. Besides, a small minority of trans soldiers seek treatment through the military, it’s nowhere near a financial burden on the defense healthcare budget, more money goes to viagra and cialis for soldiers. You maybe want to try lobbyists, special interest groups, and private contractors if using military money poorly is an issue. Actually, here’s a documentary you might like:

#TriviaTuesday DID YOU KNOW... As chief of the First Army Air Service, Colonel Billy Mitchel planned the air campaign supporting the September 1918 St. Mihiel Offensive - the largest air operation World War I to that date. Mitchell was returned to his permanent rank of colonel and tried by court martial for his public criticism of senior Army and Navy leaders for not investing in air power development. Found guilty of insubordination, the court recommended his suspension from active duty for five years, but he resigned from the Army in 1926. Mitchell died in 1936. In recognition of his contributions to military aviation, President Franklin D. Roosevelt restored Mitchell to the rank of brigadier general and posthumously promoted him to major general on the retired list in 1942. The US Army Air Forces named the North American B-25 Bomber the "Mitchell" in his honor - it remains the only U.S. bomber named for an individual. #armyhistory Posted @withrepost • @armyhistory (at Charlotte MEPS, 12th Battalion, USMEPCOM) https://www.instagram.com/p/B18xq6fAcCO/?igshid=6zn03ymlc02e
