I drove down to Buffalo and back yesterday (and i’m flying to nyc on friday woohoo!), and I just want to know why the fuck do I have to pay money to get back into canada? Specifically Ontario? This year I’ve entered the US through the BC border 4 times and not once did I have to pay anything to come back in.....so um??what’s the dealio?
My friend reminded me that when we drove to syracuse in 2021 we had to pay as well to get back in but I thought it was because I wasn’t a citizen yet...so I’m guessing it’s a province thing? And google doesn’t help! All they say is ‘you don’t pay fees or taxes when you enter canada’...well I paid for something!
#irrational immigrant fears but i've driven down to the US about 9 times now#and every single time I start to get near to the border agent my heart starts beating so fast and I start sweating and I just feel like#i'm doing something illegal#and they're gonna pull me over and deport me immediately#genuinely#I don't know if this feeling will ever go away but even now as a citizen it's just as intense#Things you have to bear as an immigrant I guess#I mean i did get stopped once the first time i drove down and they made me park on the side and go into the building where they make you#wait for no reason and then ask you to pay a fee to enter as if you didn't pay money for the visa already#and even though 8 different desks are empty they still make you wait and wait so your anxiety is through the roof#I chose this though#I chose to come to the west#c'est la vie

Travel Visas: Everything You Need to Know
If you’re planning a trip abroad, one of the most important things you need to consider is obtaining a travel visa. A travel visa is a document issued by a country’s government that grants permission for a foreign traveler to enter and stay in that country for a specified period. Here’s everything you need to know about travel visas.
Types of Travel Visas
There are several types of travel visas, and the one you need will depend on the purpose of your trip. Here are some of the most common types of travel visas:
Tourist Visa: This type of visa is issued for travelers who plan to visit a foreign country for leisure or vacation purposes.
Business Visa: This type of visa is issued for travelers who are going to a foreign country for business purposes, such as attending a conference, meeting with clients, or negotiating a contract.
Student Visa: This type of visa is issued for travelers who plan to study in a foreign country, either for a short-term language course or a full degree program.
Work Visa: This type of visa is issued for travelers who have been offered a job in a foreign country and plan to work there for a specified period.
Transit Visa: This type of visa is issued for travelers who are passing through a foreign country on their way to another destination.
How to Obtain a Travel Visa
The process for obtaining a travel visa varies by country and can be time-consuming, so it’s important to start the process well in advance of your trip. Here are the general steps you’ll need to follow to obtain a travel visa:
Check the visa requirements for the country you plan to visit: You can find this information on the website of the country’s embassy or consulate. Make sure you understand the requirements and deadlines for applying for a visa.
Gather the required documents: Typically, you’ll need to provide a passport that is valid for at least six months beyond the end of your planned stay, as well as a completed visa application form, a passport-sized photo, and any other documents required by the country you plan to visit.
Submit your application: You’ll need to submit your application and all required documents to the embassy or consulate of the country you plan to visit. This may require an in-person visit or can be done by mail or online.
Wait for processing: The processing time for a travel visa varies by country and can take anywhere from a few days to several weeks.
Receive your visa: If your application is approved, you’ll receive a visa that outlines the terms of your stay in the foreign country.
Tips for Obtaining a Travel Visa
Obtaining a travel visa can be a complex and stressful process, but there are some things you can do to make it easier:
Start the process early: Give yourself plenty of time to research the visa requirements and gather the required documents. Applying for a visa at the last minute can be risky and may result in your visa not being approved in time for your trip.
Be honest on your application: Providing false information on your visa application can result in your application being denied or your visa being revoked once you arrive in the foreign country.
Follow the instructions carefully: Make sure you understand the requirements for applying for a visa and follow the instructions carefully. Failure to do so can result in your application being denied.
Be prepared for an interview: Some countries require an in-person interview as part of the visa application process. Be prepared to answer questions about the purpose of your trip, your travel plans, and your financial situation.
Conclusion
Obtaining a travel visa is an important part of planning any international trip. Make sure you understand the visa requirements for the country you plan to visit, gather all the necessary documents, and submit your application well in advance to ensure that you receive your visa in time for your trip. By following these tips and being prepared, you can make the process of obtaining a travel visa as smooth and stress-free as possible.
It’s also important to note that some countries have reciprocal visa agreements, meaning that citizens of certain countries may be exempt from obtaining a visa for certain lengths of stay. For example, citizens of the United States may not need a visa for stays of up to 90 days in countries such as Canada, Mexico, and many European countries. However, it’s important to check the specific requirements for your destination country to ensure that you have the necessary documentation.
In addition, it’s important to note that travel restrictions and visa requirements may change frequently, especially in light of global events such as the COVID-19 pandemic. Make sure you stay up to date on any changes to visa requirements and travel restrictions for your destination country.
In conclusion, obtaining a travel visa may seem daunting, but with proper planning and preparation, it can be a straightforward process. By understanding the requirements for your destination country and following the necessary steps, you can obtain a travel visa and enjoy a stress-free trip abroad.

A Quick Guide For US Visa Schemes For Singapore Citizens
The United States is one of the most coveted destinations for immigrants. It has the highest nominal GDP in the world, making it one of the most prosperous economies globally. Every year, numerous foreign nationals migrate to the US to leverage the high standard of living and seek attractive economic opportunities. Strong bilateral relations between Singapore and the US allow Singapore citizens to take advantage of attractive visa schemes to move to the US. A trusted US visa agent in Singapore can help them with the application and guide them about the visa formalities. Let’s discuss the top options available for people in Singapore to get a visa to the US.
Is It Difficult to Get a Green Card?
Even though foreign immigration into the US has steadily increased, the process for securing a US visa remains quite daunting for first-time applicants. However, an applicant can easily get a Green Card if they meet the requisite criteria and submit an application as per the relevant guidelines. A US visa agent in Singaporecan advise an applicant about the key requirements to help them submit an error-free application.
In 2021, over 740,000 foreign nationals received the coveted Green Card. Out of these, close to 300,000 recipients were from Asian countries. Singapore citizens can also take advantage of the available visa schemes to secure a Green Card for moving to the US.

Moving From Singapore to the US: Visa Schemes to Consider
A Singapore citizen can check out the available visa schemes to move to the US and secure a Green Card. A US visa agent in Singapore can help them confirm their eligibility and apply for a suitable program. The following are some popular visa schemes for people in Singapore to relocate to the US:
EB-5 Visa: This visa allows entrepreneurs or investors from Singapore to shift to the US. To qualify, the applicant must invest a stipulated amount in a new commercial enterprise or a targeted employment area. They may generate at least ten new jobs for US citizens, and meet the full list of criteria set by the USCIS. The EB5 program enables investors and their families to get Green Cards in the US.
EB-3 Visa: Singapore nationals who receive a full-time, permanent job offer from an American employer can use the EB-3 Visa to relocate. The company sponsorship enables them to secure Green Cards for themselves and their dependent family members.
Non-Immigrant Visas from Singapore to the US
In addition to the abovementioned Green Card solutions, Singapore citizens can take advantage of non-immigrant visas for temporary visits to the US. The following are some of the common non-immigrant visa options for Singapore nationals:
H1B1
EB-1
EB-2
E-1
E-2
Based on your requirements and plans, you can choose a US visa scheme suitable for you. Consult our team at Strategic Migration Services today for more information and guidance for securing a visa to go to the US.

Note
"Students who enrolled at a fake university in Michigan set up by federal immigration agents have the right to sue the U.S. government, a federal court has ruled" from 2015 to 2019 hundreds of immigrant students with legal visas paid tuition at University of Farmington in Farmington Hills believing it was a real college but it was a fake one created by undercover agents of ICE. ICE kept all the money ($11,000 a year for each student), arrested and deported at least 250 students. abolish ICE!
WTF???
So this is actually not surprising at all given the USA's history of deportation of people of color (Japanese internment camps, Mexican repatriation https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mexican_Repatriation, the trail of tears etc).
but like yeah I'm gonna be watching this closely.

Dieter Bravo x f!reader
Warnings/Tags/Notes: 18+. FEELINGS. Angst. love. just...feelings. Mention of f receiving oral, reader is a not a us-citizen (visa stuff), commitment and intimacy issues all round, did I mentioned feelings? This just kinda started writing itself, i appreciate there isn't enough Dieter in it but it is what it is. Unedited, unbeta'd.
Words: 1.1k
Summary: It's more than enough. Having what you have with him now.
"We could get married"
You look up from your book, drawn back from your far away to the sound of his voice. Dieter is looking at you expectantly.
Your eyes widen as you process the four words that just left his mouth.
"Dee, we…why would we…" You trail off, drawing your legs up and out of his lap, his thumb presses down on the arch of your foot once more before he lets it go.
The conversation had moved on hours ago. Over takeout you'd mentioned trepidation over being able to stay in the country, struggling with your visa and having no sponsorship since you couldn't seem to get a fucking job right now.
Dieter had listened, sympathised, and then eaten you out for dessert just to make you feel better about your situation.
It helped. He'd been pretty mediocre but extremely enthusiastic when you'd met, but now you'd taught him some tricks he knew just how to turn your mind off for a moment.
The conversation was finished the moment he put his mouth on you, or so you thought. He could help you pay for an extension but he wasn't influential or wealthy enough to sway the embassy into letting you stay longer.
"I'd bribe the fuck out of them if I could, you know that"
You did know that. You knew he'd do anything for you. He'd been saying it since the day he met you, once famous (more like infamous) movie star turned rehabilitated recluse with no one willing to be by his side until that day.
He'd met you in a Dennys, of all places. 3am waffles served to his lonely little corner booth because he found it hard to sleep these days, and he got hungry at random times. You took the late shifts because they paid the best, and you could be available in the day for calls from your agent that never came.
It hadn't been sexual at first. It hadn't been anything but a displaced, alone man and an exhausted, untethered waitress sitting in a booth and sharing free fries because chef made too many and they'd only go to waste. It had been whispered giggles, and sharing ridiculous Hollywood horror stories, and 'same time tomorrow' over and over again.
No one in LA had made you laugh. Not until you met him.
Dieter hadn't heard genuine laughter in years. Now he got to hear it every night.
Back in the now, you shake your head. He's being silly. He's trying to make you laugh again.
"Don't be stupid" You playfully shove his shoulder with your foot, but his face falls into a frown, and you feel a little crack in your heart at the sight. You watch as he stands, rubbing fingers across his forearm and muttering a little 'Stupid, yeah'. The tremor you feel inside you is nameless, and you will it to remain that way.
In the last six months of your knowing each other, there have been times when you've felt this same feeling. An ache at the thought that he could be anything other than happy. You'd long since left Dennys for the upward trajectory of the Cheesecake Factory but still when the late shift rolls around you feel a tug at your lips and a name on them, even when you'd seen him only hours before.
You're not an item, that's the thing. You're not a couple. Neither of you have ever said the words outright, no 'I want to be with you', 'I want to be yours'. Not to each other, at least.
It's more than enough. Having what you have with him now. It's enough, it's enough, it's enough. Enough that he will sit up all night long and read lines with you again and again and again. Enough that he tells you not to come over on his bad days but you do anyway, and hold him while he cries.
It's enough to be just this. Because more would only make it hurt more when he relapses, when you have to leave.
When you have to leave…
You close your book, set it down on the table that's strewn with pages for your latest audition. Last night he'd coached you through every single line, and then told you with passion just how perfect you were. You can hear him in the kitchen, and you know he's making himself a decaf latte with way too much caramel syrup and a dash of the kitkat sprinkles because that's what he always makes when he might be starting to crave something else.
That's how you know he wasn't making a joke. That's how you know your hurt his feelings. That and every look he's ever given you, every smile that lights up his eyes that's only been for you. That and the way his hands never stray far from you, always grounding himself with the touch of your skin to his.
"Dee…" You pad up to him slowly, watch as he tenses at your presence. Another prickle in your chest, you can't let him think you don't feel...what it is that you feel.
"Would it be so bad?" He asks without turning, the tinge of dejection in his tone making you reach out. "I'd treat you good, you know. We wouldn't even have to live together or anything…it can just be a way for you to stay. That's all. I didn't think it would be so bad for you"
God, you've had him right in your grasp this whole time. The two of you dancing around your feelings all because of fears you didn't even fully realise you had til now.
"I'd- I wouldn't even tell anyone you were my wife, if you didn't want me to. I wouldn't expect anything from it. I just…fuck,"
You turn him around with a pull to his arm, shake your head and bite back something hopeful and beautiful that inches up your throat,
"I don't want you to go"
Your arms are around his middle, a stifled sob as you bury your face against the soft, worn fabric of his favourite t-shirt - your favourite by extension because everything he loves you love too. He smells like him.
You breathe him in.
He smells like home.
You look up at him and smile. Not the pretty smile you give to casting agents - the one that makes you look perfect - but the big, happy, loving one he saw the very first night you two met in that Dennys at three in the morning on a random Tuesday. The one he gives you back is the same; he's smiled a thousand times on camera, in films and press appearances and award shows. No one else but you has ever seen this smile.
You take a deep breath. The crack in your heart starts in fusing back together.
"We could get married"

Warm greeting
Filling a prompt from @shygryf: Tater and Bitty are papped and speculation abounds (can be pre or post cup)
Jack laughed when he first saw it.
He was at the St. Martins’ house, having a cup of coffee with Marty and Thirdy, listening to the girls play in the den while Gabrielle was at work, wondering what it would be like to have a house and a couple of kids.
He’d never really thought about that, not before this summer. Now, though, he was out of the closet — could never go back in the closet — and Bitty had been living with him since May, and it was … delightful.
Sure, it had been an adjustment. The condo felt crowded sometimes, with all of Bitty’s things everywhere, but that had gotten better when Tater had finally given up the guest room and taken his 6’4” body back to his own condo, and then, a couple of weeks later, back to Russia to see his family.
And sometimes Bitty chattered on, usually about nothing, or about baking, when Jack was craving silence.
But they’d gotten better at communicating what they needed when they needed it, and Jack had found his thoughts turning to a future that maybe … just maybe … included a family. With Bitty, who was already so good with kids. Marty and Thirdy’s kids all loved him.
He should really talk to Bitty about it before he got carried away. They’d never talked about having kids. Why would they? Bitty was so young, only a few years from being a kid himself. He still had two years of school to finish before they could even think about getting married.
Or maybe … Jack had known other players who married women who were still in college. It worked, they said, because the academic year roughly matched the hockey season, so they were busy at the same time.
Jack also knew a lot of players who got divorced after a few years.
“Earth to Jack.”
Marty was waving his phone in front of Jack’s face, trying to call him out of his daydream.
“Looks like Tater got back okay,” Marty said, once he had Jack’s attention.
The phone showed a picture of Tater at the airport in Boston, arms wrapped around Bitty and lifting him into the air. It was from a local news site, and noted that training camp was around the corner.
The sheer joy that Jack read on Bitty’s face made him laugh.
“Yeah,” Jack said. “I had a meeting with my agent this morning, so Bits went down to pick him up. I know he was a little worried.”
“Tater?” Thirdy asked.
“No, Bitty,” Jack said. “Well, he said Tater was worried, too, but … I didn’t see it.”
“About what?” Marty asked.
“About Tater going back to Russia,” Jack said. “After the Cup. Or, I mean, after I kissed Bitty. Because people knew Tater was staying with me … staying with us … and the way Russia has been cracking down on gay people. That’s why Tater didn’t do a statement in support of us or anything.”
Tater had wanted to, Jack knew. Bitty had talked him out of it, after a long phone call to his old skating coach in Georgia, who apparently still knew people in Russia. She didn’t actually know Tater’s family, but Bitty said they had friends in common.
“Figure skating’s a small world,” Bitty had explained. “Even smaller than hockey.”
“I was surprised by that,” Marty said. “I never thought he’d be homophobic.”
“No, he’s not,” Jack said. “But his mother and sister are still in Russia, and he wanted to see them, and he was already staying with me. So he decided to have his Cup day there, like it was important for him to bring it home to them, and then work on getting things in place for his mother and his sister to move here this year. He just found out last week that their visas were approved.”
Jack didn’t say how much work had gone on behind the scenes, with George, with his American mother, with the U.S. State Department to make sure that Tater’s closest relatives would be admitted.
The next time Jack saw the picture, it was on the phone Bitty was holding out across the breakfast bar while Jack did the dinner dishes that evening.
Tater had come for dinner, full of plans to look for a place for his family to live in Providence, to have everything ready when they arrived.
“They’re not going to live with you?” Jack asked.
“No, no,” Tater said. “Me, I’m keeping my bachelor pad. Anyone I date, they need to get along with my mama, yes, but not over the breakfast table. You understand?”
He left, wiped out from traveling, as soon as the meal was over. Bitty was sitting at the counter and scrolling through his phone when he sat up, eyebrows at his hairline, and said, “Really?!?”
Now the picture was on what Jack recognized as a gossip site, and the caption underneath said, “Moving on? The man seen greeting Providence Falconer Alexei Mashkov at Logan Airport sure looks a lot like Eric Bittle, who Jack Zimmerman said was his boyfriend after kissing him on the ice following the Falconers’ Stanley Cup win. But Zimmermann and Bittle haven’t been seen in public together for weeks. Did Mashkov steal this puck bunny away from his teammate?”
Jack almost dropped the plate he was holding.
“Puck bunny? Osti de tabarnak!”
He set the plate down and took the phone from Bitty to read it again, saying as he did so, “I’m calling my lawyer. I’ll get them to take it down.”
But his phone was already ringing.
Shitty.
“What the fuck, brah!” Shitty started. “Did you see —”
“We saw,” Jack confirmed. “I’m calling my lawyer. Puck bunny?”
If Jack was furious, Bitty was incandescent with rage.
“How could they do this!?! This could ruin everything! I have to call Tater.”
Bitty tugged his phone out of Jack’s grip and looked at the post again.
“After everything Tater did all summer to smooth everything over. I mean, maybe I shouldn’t have hugged him, but I was so glad he made it back okay … and I didn’t even see anyone with a camera. Fuck, it’s my fault. What if his family can’t come anymore?”
Bitty was almost wailing now. Jack knew he was upset — Bitty didn’t usually use casual profanity like that — and he knew that he shouldn’t call Tater in that state.
“It’ll be okay,” Jack said. “You really think the Russian government looks at trashy gossip sites from Boston?”
“You really think they don’t?” Bitty retorted. “And I don’t know what your lawyer’s gonna do.”
“Tell them to take down the caption?” Jack said. “Sue them for defamation?”
“For what? Implying that I broke up with you and started dating Tater?” Bitty scoffed. “I love you, but the media law class I took last year — you know, for my blog? — I don’t think that’s actually defamatory.”
“Puck bunny?” Jack said in disbelief. “I mean, I saw the photo before, but it was one of the news channels talking about training camp. I didn’t think anything of it.”
“Once again, you might see the caption as derogatory, but … they’re gonna say it was intended to be humorous. And we were in public, so no expectation of privacy. I hate it as much as you do, Jack, but you know they can take photos on public property.”
That, in fact, was why Bitty and Jack had not been seen in public together for weeks. Bitty had had a minor breakdown over not even being able to go to the grocery store without photos ending up online.
“But they still might take it down if they get a call from a lawyer,” Jack pointed out.
“Yeah,” Bitty acknowledged. “They might. I’m just kicking myself for not being more careful. I’ll call Tater.”
Jack went to the closet he called his office to call the lawyer while Bitty called Tater.
“Tater? I’m sorry to bother you — I know you’re exhausted,” Bitty started.
“I’m fine,” Tater said. “You need something? Forget something?”
“No — I, um, I have to give you some bad news,” Bitty said.
“You alright?” Tater asked. “Jack’s alright?”
“No, we’re fine. It’s, well. It’s that there was a picture taken. Of us. On the sidewalk at airport.”
“Yes?” Tater said, sounding a little mystified. “I saw the photo hours ago. You look very cute. I look very strong.”
“Well, yes, but some other place posted it, and the caption makes it sound like you ‘n’ me … like we’re dating,” Bitty finally managed to say.
“Okay?” Tater said. “I know that is not true. You know that is not true. I’m sure Jack knows it is not true.”
“But what about … you don’t think it will cause problems for your mother?”
“Mama? No,” Tater laughed. “Mama — she told the people in Russia that she needed to come to the U.S. to — how to say — set me straight. That I was forgetting the ways she taught me and she and my sister must come so I remember.”
Tater paused.
“Don’t worry, she can’t wait to meet you! She just said that so they would let her come here. I saw the photographer and I thought the picture might help, yes?”
Bitty thunked his head gently on the kitchen counter.
“Tater, are you sure about this?”
“Of course I am sure!”
There was another pause.
“They called you puck bunny!” Tater shouted.
“Just saw it, huh?” Bitty asked.
“They should not say that about you!”
“Yeah, Tater, Jack is on that. As long as you’re okay?”
“I’m fine, Little B. Going to bed. Maybe tomorrow you, me and Jack all go out together?”
