Prime Minister Gabriel Attal is expected to give farmers new concessions in an attempt to calm down protests which have squeezed the French capital on Monday.
After protesting farmers blocked eight motorways leading to Paris on Monday, the French government is preparing more concessions to ease tensions.
The farmers have a list of complaints, including that working in agriculture has become too difficult and not lucrative enough.
France's new Prime Minister Gabriel Attal is set to give a speech in France’s lower house of parliament Tuesday, laying out his government's priorities and offering new aid measures to the agricultural sector.
It would be a new test for Attal, now in the first month of his new job, after the pro-agriculture measures he announced last week were deemed insufficient by the farmers. The 34-year-old prime minister has promised more aid measures.
On Monday, protesting farmers encircled Paris with traffic-snarling barricades, using hundreds of lumbering tractors and piles of hay bales to block highways leading into the French capital in a bid to pressure the government over the future of their industry, which has been shaken by the fallout from the war in Ukraine.
A protest that, for the time being, has no end in sight.
"There is total determination," said Arnaud Rousseau, president of the main and powerful agricultural union, the FNSEA, who was received by Attal yesterday afternoon and announced that they were continuing to negotiate with the government.
In an interview on Europe 1 radio, Rousseau said that there needed to be a "change of course" by the government and "symbolic emergency measures". He explained that the impression he had got from the Prime Minister yesterday was that he was "ready to go further on all issues".
The farmers have managed to evade police attempts to stop them, as their declared aim is to block access to the Rungis food market, the largest in Europe, some fifteen kilometres from Paris.
Interior Minister Gérald Darmanin, who has mobilised 15,000 officers in response to the protests, has warned since the weekend that he will not allow this to happen.
However, Darmanin has asked the police not to intervene in the so-called 'siege' blockades of Paris or the rest of the country - where there are several dozen - unless there is a threat to property or people.

The blockade of major roads around Paris - which hosts the Summer Olympics in six months - and protests elsewhere in France promised another difficult week for new Prime Minister Gabriel Attal, who has been in office for less than a month.
Protesters said Attal's attempts at pro-agriculture measures last week fell short of their demands that food production be made more lucrative, easier and fairer.
Farmers responded on Monday by deploying convoys of tractors, trailers and even rumbling harvesters in what they called a "siege" of Paris to win more concessions. Some protesters came with supplies of food and water, and tents to stay at the barricades if the government didn't back down.
Transport authorities in the Paris region reported blockages on the A1 motorway north of the city's main international airport, the A4 near the Disneyland theme park east of the capital and other normally busy roads.
"Our aim isn't to inconvenience or ruin the lives of French people," Arnaud Rousseau, president of the influential FNSEA agricultural union, told RTL radio. "Our aim is to put pressure on the government to quickly find solutions to the crisis."
Farmers in neighbouring Belgium have also set up barricades to stop traffic on some major roads, including those leading to the capital, Brussels. Most of the protests are taking place in the French-speaking part of the country.

So my tip for anyone to learn German, listen. Listen to the language, to native speakers talking, German shows, cartoons. Then start reading, "Die Leiden des jungen Werthers" is great. Grammar is hard, of course, but there are plenty of exercise books on the market for cheap that help a lot. Also, Ich liebe dich Rango!-🦔
Listening to your target language is a tip I always recommend. Watch shows, listen to music, podcasts, read books - there's a ton of possibilities.
The difficulty with German isn't getting used to the sound tho. It's to not sound super formal and stiff when speaking. 9/10 times I recognise a non native by that criteria alone. German slang is... Something

Eurovision 2006 - Number 41 - Texas Lightning - "No, No, Never"

After several years of having exciting, raucous national finals with a wide variety of contemporary songs, something has changed in Germany. For a start, there were only three songs to pick from. One of those was from former Eurovision winner Vicky Leandros - who won the 1972 Eurovision Song Contest for Luxembourg. Great as it is to be able to call on that level of Eurovision heritage, that's hardly a contemporary name or song for 2006. The other contestant was Thomas Anders, lead singer of Modern Talking - big in the 1980s. This was all to celebrated the 50th anniversary not only of Eurovision, but also Germany's first participation. I'm not sure why that meant they had to change the national final so completely.
The eventual winners did, however, open up another new frontier for Eurovision. Well, almost a new frontier. Country music. A quintessentially American form of music now on stage in Eurovision. Texas Lightning weren't American. They were German, with an Australian vocal coach as a lead singer. Jane Comerford and the band had been together since 2002 performing both covers of country hits but also country versions of popular pop standards. In the national final they covered Abba's Waterloo.
I think they're also the only band in Eurovision history to have had a drummer who has played Goebbels on film - it's Olli Dittrich, famous German comedian, and comic actor. He's most famous for parodying a series of notable German figures in comic settings on RTL's Samstag Nicht - the German Saturday Night Live
Texas Lightning were sufficiently non-ballady to win the national final easily to take their place on stage in Athens. No, No Never is an almost straight country number, replete with a stool for Jane to sit on throughout, banjo plucking and brushed drumming. There's a slide guitar in their too, but not represented on stage. It's devotional, Jane is always going to be there for you, and together with its friendly upbeat nature, it's like an unexpected warm hug by some stray cowboys who found themselves in the middle of the Eurovision party. It was written by Jane thinking of her niece who's father had passed away recently. Awww.
It's is remarkably different from everything else. Others were going in other novel directions in 2006, trying to break out from the established pattern, and No, No, Never represents another possible direction - one that would eventually be used with more success in later years.
At Eurovision it didn't set the world on fire, but then again, it did best out of all the Big Four entries, achieving a respectable joint 14th place with thirty-six points. As such, it was a step forward for Germany. Even better was the success of the song in the German market. It went to number one in their charts and sat there for weeks. It was in those charts for thirty eight weeks in total, making it the most successful Eurovision song in the German music market since 1959. Bigger even than Abba. It also got into the top 10 in both Switzerland and Austria.
The band continues, releasing albums in 2006 and 2009, but thereafter appeared only to perform. They did however become honorary Texans later in 2006.
Apparently their name comes from a Texan term for arson and insurance fraud...
