Man, I can't believe its been twenty years since Negima first released. Waiting for the low quality scalations, the early scanlator groups that started emerging at the time, waiting for spoilers, some of the communities I lurked around online. I'd be lying if I didn't say a part of me really misses that. The fandoms pretty much been running on fumes ever since UQ Holder went monthly, but it kind of feels wrong not posting anything about it. Anyway this series has pretty much infected me with brainrot for about the entirety of its existence. It definitely shows its age in some aspects but the amount of characterization and world building and the giant number of tropes all crammed into it made it a super memorable experience with all my favorite blorbos. I'm super glad I got to experience it as it was still being released weekly and still kind of miss the kind of interactions all the characters had with one another. Happy twentieth, Negima!

Magister Negi Magi!, and UQ Holder! Oh wow there's a name i haven't heard in a very long time... in fact the last time I thought about Ken Akamatsu it was because I was wondering, "what ever happened to the love hina guy?" having completely forgotten that he even did Negima. But at the time I was asking that I looked him up and found out UQ Holder was his ongoing serial, which I'd heard of but hadn't realized it was him, AND that's how I found out that UQ Holder was a Negima sequel the whole time.

Anyway me even asking that question was over a decade ago now, and the anime for UQ holder came out 7 years ago, so now I have to ask again.... wtf is Ken Akamatsu doing these days??

reading sequels of something you haven't read the start of

sure things are "harder to follow", but on the flip side the world will almost always feel distinctly more rich because there was already stuff that happened here before. it makes a world *bigger* in a way because the older stuff set in it becomes *history*. to reconstruct and derive from context. feels more *real* almost

i sometimes do it on purpose, sometimes by accident, and ive never regretted it

examples:

-im reading discworld in no discernible order, but the very first one i read was thud! of all thing= near the end of the guard series. and it's *good* on its own. it felt so alive and complicated

-fuckign UQ holder; this manga has no right being good but it is; and it's the gog-damn *negima* sequel, which i didn't even know when i started reading it! ill never read negima it seems very uninteresting and horny in a way that doesn't appeal to me at all. but UQ is genuinely good (<reason i made the post, how is this thing good?!)

11/30/24: Black Friday weekend order received! I gave into temptation when I saw some online ads, or maybe because I bought from them before, I'm targeted? But anyways, Sentai Filmworks had their Thanksgiving sale, and I couldn't help but look through their catalog. I had accumulated some really cheap anime filler titles. But eventually, I got to some nicer series, and I swapped out stuff for those. These titles that I've never seen before. I'm familiar with a few in manga form. But not animated. So here I am with seven new anime. They had different prices, but they averaged out to $13 a piece. Not bad for blurays.
