hey guys welcome to this one fever dream of an au where all of the conclave cardinals are romance philology researchers because i am one and this is my way of coping with that fact. they’re trying to elect the new head of dept in this one and benítez is the hot new mysterious hire (genuinely no one knew that the guy was coming. bellini fucking hates his ass as the methodologist.) also i put them in my university to imagine benítez verbally destroying some of my professors before i go to sleep

Conclave is one of those pieces of media that’s just begging for a His Dark Materials au, and we’ve theorised about it at length in the discord server. This is my own interpretation, in which Benítez has a fisher cat as his dæmon, and Lawrence has a (male) black-backed jackal. In the Bible, jackals are used to symbolise spiritual desolation and loneliness.

i firmly believe that if vincent benitez died, lawrence would follow so quick it wouldn't even be funny. like he gets the call and as soon as the words register, *boom* -> that was his heart giving out

and if lawrence died first, benitez wouldn't die immediately. but a part of his heart sure did. and he'd carry on with his papal duties for as long as he could, but he'd never be the same as he was before lawrence's passing
