Growing development of AI-enabled drone to drive UAE's cargo drone market
The UAE is becoming a significant player in the cargo drone market within the Middle East, fueled by advancements in technology, proactive government initiatives, and substantial investments from the private sector. In January 2024, the Edge Group introduced the GY 300 drone helicopter at the Unmanned Systems Exhibition and Conference (UMEX) in Abu Dhabi. This drone is designed to function in various environments and can carry weight of up to 300 kg. These drone supporting essential operations like medical and humanitarian deliveries.
Moreover, the UAE is utilizing drones to boost operational efficiency in logistics. In March 2024, UAE based dnata incorporated autonomous drones into its cargo operations, achieving impressive outcomes, such as 20% decrease in processing times and 99% accuracy in shipment tracking. The drones, using AI-driven software from Gather AI, manage inventory by collecting data, mapping environments, and reading barcodes, improving operational efficiency. This initiative illustrates the UAE's commitment to technological innovation in logistics, establishing a regional standard for excellence.

EDGE reveals the first concept of drone swarm in the Middle East
Fernando Valduga By Fernando Valduga 02/22/2012 - 14:00 in Military, UAV - UAV
The EDGE Group, based in the United Arab Emirates, unveiled its latest application for unmanned aerial systems (UAS) in the form of a drone swarm.
The defense technology conglomerate presented the concept, which is considered the first of its kind to be developed in the Middle East, at the Unmanned Systems Exhibition and Conference (UMEX 2022), which takes place in Abu Dhabi.
Drone clusters are based on the Hunter 2 series of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV) developed by HALCON, the conglomerate's precision guided weapons arm and UAS.
Leveraging advanced artificial intelligence (AI) technology, tactical drones share information with each other to maintain their relative positions and engage targets. With a maximum takeoff weight of 8kg, the winged UAS has a wingspan of 1.44 meters and a length of 1.25 meters.
“We see AI playing a critical role in advancing the defense sector and beyond, and EDGE and HALCON are determined to remain at the forefront of these developments that are shaping our sector and the world at large, from our base in the United Arab Emirates,” commented HALCON CEO Saeed Al Mansoori.

Rostec's technology partner introduced "Uber" for drones
Fly Drone, a portfolio company of the RT-Business Development holding of Rostec State Corporation, which is a resident of the Skolkovo Innovation Fund, presented Uber for unmanned aerial vehicles at the UMEX 2022 exhibition. The platform allows you to quickly find a performer for any task that requires the use of a UAV. The exhibition is held on February 21-23 in Abu Dhabi.
The main commercial product of the platform is a marketplace, with the help of which customers will be able to find qualified performers for any task requiring the use of UAVs, and pilots - a stream of orders for their services. The FlyMarket intelligent service will be able to inform pilots about orders and will allow them to conclude contracts for any flight missions.
"Thanks to its own scientific developments, the company plans to create a highly competitive international product for flying unmanned aerial vehicles in various cities and invites everyone interested in promoting their drones and infrastructure for various types of business missions to test the system. We see great interest in our development from foreign customers. So, during the exhibition in Abu Dhabi, our stand was visited by the UAE Minister of State, His Excellency Mohammed bin Ahmed Al-Bovardi," said Nikita Danilov, CEO of Fly Drone.
Also at the UMEX 2022 exhibition, the Fly Drone company presented its new product - "Safe Urban Airspace". This system allows you to identify a drone using dual surveillance from radars, track the UAV flight online, and also using flight plans, identify the intruder of airspace. The product can be implemented as an independent monitoring center or integrated into the control centers of a city or region.

UMEX 2020 in UAE
From 23 to 25 of February, the UMEX 2020 International Exhibition was held in Abu Dhabi. More than 160 manufacturers from all over the world were represented there. This exhibition was dedicated to unmanned systems: there were presented not only aviation systems but also unmanned boats, infantry equipment, and many robotic devices. 200 delegations and more than 25,000 guests attended the event.
Skyeton was represented by partners in the region – Skyeton Middle East company. We presented the complete “Raybird-3” system, which pleasantly surprised the visitors and guests of the exhibition.
Over the three days, we negotiated with many delegations, presented the complex to representatives of local companies and government agencies, established contacts with potential partners.
The exhibition showed that the Middle East region is very promising for the introduction of unmanned technologies and negotiations in this area and we are confident that we will start working closely with the countries of the Middle East soon.

UAE’s First Indigenous Drone ‘Garmousha’ Launched
UAE’s first high performance ‘Garmousha’ vertical take-off and landing (VTOL) drone was unveiled by ADASI, the regional leader in autonomous systems and services, in an agreement with the General Headquarters of the UAE Armed Forces.
ADASI is part of the Platforms and Systems cluster within EDGE, an advanced technology group for defence and beyond.
H.H. Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Presidential Affairs, unveiled the new unmanned system at the EDGE stand, UMEX 2020, at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre.
The indigenous drone, a light military unmanned aircraft, can carry payloads of approximately 100kg and can operate for six hours and 150km. The new platform facilitates greater endurance, higher payload, an integrated high-definition camera and coverage of a larger surface area, allowing it to provide optimal operational flexibility giving militaries the ability to save manned resources of critical missions.
It is capable of carrying a variety of payloads with the aid of a stabilised electro-optical sensor for day and night ISR collection and its low-consumption diesel engine and its unmanned navigation and concurrent sensor capabilities allow the versatile drone to navigate some of the most difficult challenges in rugged environments.
According to TechSci Research, the use of Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) is growing rapidly across the Middle East with the Middle East Unmanned Aerial Vehicle Market’s value pegged at around US$2.30 billion in 2019 and expected to reach US$3.95 billion by 2025, exhibiting a CAGR of 9.33 per cent during the forecast period.
In the UAE, the UAV market is valued at around US$840 million and is expected to reach US$1635 million by 2025. According to the report, UAE is one of the few countries where the commercial drone market has grown considerably and is expected to gain more traction in the coming years.
Interestingly, Garmousha also taps into the commercial drone market and will prove not only valuable to militaries but can also be used to detect gas pipeline leaks, to survey infrastructure, and in search and rescue operations.
Faisal Al Bannai, Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director, EDGE, says, “Drone technology is revolutionising our world, creating a safer and cheaper alternative to manned aircraft. As an unmanned system, the launch of the sophisticated Garmousha drone helps advance ADASI’s vision for the future of defence, while strengthening the company’s position as the regional leader in autonomous systems and services.”
According to Ali Al Yafei, CEO of ADASI, the drone has been designed to meet competitive market needs and offers the clients the required accuracy to maintain the leading edge in the market. “At ADASI, we are continuously adapting to meet our customers’ needs, and this product underpins our concerted efforts to identify a gap in the market, and act on it.”
