Today's Specimen: Fluorite
Fluorite is the mineral form of Calcium Fluoride, and is classified as a halide mineral. Fluorite can be found in many rainbow colours, as well as black, brown, white, and pink. Pure fluorite, with no other inhibiting minerals, is colourless. Fluorite is often used for ornamental (jewelry) and industrial (production of some glass, hydrofluoric acid) purposes. The first evidence of fluorite's existence is mentioned in a text from 1530 by Georgius Agricola. Fluorite has properties of both a thermoluminescence and fluorescent glow, the latter of which was actually named after the mineral. Fluorite mines can be found in Canada, Rwanda, China, the UK, South Africa, Mongolia, Argentina, Tanzania, Germany, and Namibia. Fluorite is about a 4.0 on the Mohs hardness scale. Fluorite is alternatively referred to as Fluorspar.
Stay tuned for another rock talk!

Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
cockney accent from god knows fuck where. the uk hasnt existed for over 150 years
a “doctor of some kind” is what people would call her. she does pretty much everything from like basic checkups to full on dental surgery to psychiatric care. i wouldnt trust her with any of these things tho personally
^absolutely talks yur ear off with her hands in yur mouth. god forbid you try to keep it a one sided conversation
deaf and technically/legally blind. like take a photo in a dark place full of neon lights, then smear the lights any which way across the photo and amp the brightness level a bit. thats kinda what she sees without her glasses (def suffers from migraines too)
sometimes sleeps on park benches just for kicks. yes she has a fully furnished and payed for apartment above her clinic fuck u she’s 34 and can do wtv she wants
fav food is plain unbuttered toast
huge baseball fan
may or may not have a betting problem but not with like, cards or dice or slots. more along the lines of truth or dare with peoples lives and “bet 7$ i can do a backflip on solid concrete watch this. oh holy fuck ow. huh this particular slab is kinda beautiful in a way….”
^ has an appreciation for rocks. her favorite? fluorite. granite is a cool second
in med school would’ve done nothing in class except play subway surfers loud as shit in the back of the room and smile maniacally wnv the prof is wrong about something
the type to flush peoples meds down the toilet or mix them up just cuz she’s interested in finding out what would happen. would absolutely never do this with a patient trust 💯 shes a professional dammit
as stated before: has 5 doctorates. 2 of which are forgeries and 1 is a degree in glassblowing.
kinda has a penchant for barging in on people while theyre in the toilet no matter the situation or place. like full on slam the door to the stall open and just talks like nothing is weird abt this
can literally convince someone to sell their soul but in the most obnoxious way possible
haunts carmine’s dreams and every waking moment. is almost always rethinking being involved with her

Owl — Eastern Greek fluorite carved idol, 4th-3rd century BC. (H: 48mm)
The tridimensional mini-sculpture is depicting the famous owl of Athens or ‘Athens noctua.’
This sculpture can be seen as a votive idol or a very precious protective amulet empowered by the image linked to the Goddess of wisdom and strategy.
This ancient micro-sculpture is carved in an extraordinary deep purple bicolor fluorite.
The mythological animal is characterized by horizontal elongated head with big rounded open-eyes.
The head feathers and the pupils are deeply carved.
The face is frontal while the body is turned to the left. The wings and some other feathers are represented by the same carved-lines.
The posture of the bird and the general appearance are referring to the mythological owl of the Goddess Athena, symbol of the city of Athens, Greece.
This unique specimen is a beautiful example of the ancient craftsmanship from the choice of the bicolor fluorite and its artisitc treatment, combining both the stone and the mythic animal characteristics to emphasize the power of the symbolic, hence the protective function of the sculpture.
During the Antiquity, the amulets, sculpted figures and vessels productions in fluorite are attested in ancient Greece and Rome as a precious stone, renowned for the wonderful colors and the perfect cleavage of crystals.
According to current studies, fluorite is referrable to the ancient and precious Murra, which is used to produce cups and table vases.
The oldest mention is from Sesto Properzio.
The most complete description is by Caius Pliny the Second, who considers it a gem, although it was not considered as such, for example, by the jurist Cassio Longino around 50 AD.
