The Integral Form Generating design seminar produced abstract shapes in ultra high performance concrete (UHCP). The design process involves this new material on the one hand, and the serial (re-)production of objects made by casting on the other. The resulting objects interpret the properties of the casting compound: UHCP stands out for its exceptional strength, and can mold even delicate structures such as fingerprints. It enables ultra-smooth finishes and building components with wafer-thin walls. In their designs, which ranged from concentrated, compact bodies to flimsy, filigree structures, the students sounded out the limits of this material.
Im Entwurfsseminar Integrale Formgenerierung entstanden abstrakte Formen aus UHPC-Beton (Ultra High Performance Concrete). Der Gestaltungsprozess geht dabei einerseits von diesem neuartigen Material aus, andererseits von der seriellen (Re-)Produktion von Objekten im Gießverfahren. Die resultierenden Objekte interpretieren die Eigenschaften der Gussmasse. Er ermöglicht spiegelglatte Oberflächen und Bauteile mit hauchdünnen Wandstärken. In ihren Arbeiten loten die Studierenden die Grenzen dieses Materials aus – mit einem Spektrum von dichten, kompakten Körpern bis hin zu zarten und filigranen Konstruktionen.

In ihrem Kampf gegen Luftschadstoffe bauen immer mehr deutsche Städte auf den innovativen ClAir® (Clean Air) Asphalt der STRABAG AG: Die Stadt Aachen hat STRABAG nun als erste Kommune in NRW mit dem Einbau des schadstoffmindernden Asphalts beauftragt. Das ClAir® Asphalt-Projekt auf einer stark befahrenen Zufahrtsstraße in Aachen ist der mittlerweile fünfte Auftrag dieser Art innerhalb von sechs Monaten, seit dem Marktstart von Clean Air Asphalt mit dem Pilotprojekt in Stuttgart. In Aachen wird der Adalbertsteinweg auf dem rd. 500 m langen, innenstadtnahen Teilstück zwischen Justizzentrum und Kaiserplatz die photokatalytische ClAir® Asphalt-Deckschicht erhalten. Die Arbeiten in zwei Bauabschnitten beginnen am heutigen Mittwoch und sollen bis kommenden Donnerstag, 31.10., abgeschlossen sein. Der STRABAG-Bereich Düren wird die Baumaßnahme federführend umsetzen.

Titandioxid als Photokatalysator
Der Einbau von ClAir® Asphalts zählt zu den Sofortmaßnahmen im Luftreinhalteplan, mit denen die Stadt Aachen die Belastung der Luft mit Stickstoffdioxid (NO2) senken will. „Das Ziel dieser Maßnahme ist, die Belastung mit giftigen Stickoxiden rund um den Adalbertsteinweg und direkt am Ort der Entstehung zu reduzieren. Auf dieser Pilotstrecke sollen darüber hinaus weitere wichtige Erkenntnisse über den Spezialasphalt gewonnen werden“, sagt Gisela Weiß, Leiterin der Abteilung Straßenunterhaltung und Brückenbau des Aachener Stadtbetriebs. Der Netzbetreiber Regionetz hatte auf dem Adalbertsteinweg in den vergangenen Monaten neue Versorgungsleitungen verlegt. Zum Abschluss dieser Tiefbauarbeiten wird der neue Spezialasphalt eingebaut.
Das für Clean Air Asphalt eingesetzte Abstreumaterial aus mit Titandioxid (TiO2) versetztem, ultrahochfestem Beton (UHPC) baut unter Einwirkung von UV-Strahlung (Sonnenlicht) Stickoxide (NOx) ab und wandelt diese in unschädliche Nitrate um (Photokatalyse). Es wird über ein vom STRABAG-Kompetenzzentrum TPA GmbH entwickeltes, innovatives Einbauverfahren direkt und nachhaltig in die heiße Asphaltoberfläche eingebunden. „Wir freuen uns über diesen neuen Auftrag und sehen uns damit in unserer Forschungsarbeit bestätigt. Unser ClAir® Asphalt kann dazu beitragen, die Lebensqualität in Bereichen mit stark befahrenen Verkehrswegen nachhaltig zu verbessern“, sagt Dr. Norbert Simmleit, TPA-Geschäftsführer für Deutschland und internationale Projekte.
Der STRABAG Clean Air (ClAir®) Asphalt ist ein schadstoffmindernder Straßenbelag: Abstreumaterial mit Titandioxid (TiO2) senkt über einen photokatalytischen Prozess nachhaltig die Konzentration giftiger Stickoxide (NOx) in der Luft. ClAir® Asphalt ist ein Resultat des Forschungsprojekts NaHiTAs (Nachhaltiger High-Tech Asphalt), an dem das STRABAG-Kompetenzzentrum TPA federführend beteiligt war.
  Stickstoffdioxid-Konzentration sinkt um bis zu 26 Prozent
Die TPA GmbH hat den innovativen Asphalt gemeinsam mit neun Partnern aus Wissenschaft und Wirtschaft im vom Bund geförderten Forschungsprojekt NaHiTAs (Nachhaltiger HighTech-Asphalt, 7/2015–12/2018) entwickelt. In Feldversuchen haben die Projektpartner ermittelt, dass der schadstoffmindernde Belag die Stickstoffdioxid (NO2)-Konzentration in der Luft über den Prozess der Photokatalyse um bis zu 26 % reduziert. Der Photokatalysator TiO2 wird dabei nicht verbraucht, sondern bleibt dauerhaft und funktionsfähig in der Straßenoberfläche erhalten. ClAir® Asphalt trägt zudem spürbar zur Lärmminderung bei, wie Messungen auf der Pilotstrecke „Am Neckartor” in Stuttgart belegen. Danach hat sich der L��rmpegel bei 40 km/h nach dem Einbau um 1 bis 2 dB(A) verringert, was in der akustischen Wahrnehmung einer Abnahme des Verkehrsaufkommens um bis zu 35 % entspricht.
