Happy birthday, Setskogen! Our beautiful black lady! A slightly cranky lady, but otherwise easy to handle. I was warned how difficult she was to handle beforehand, but after a few days on this beautiful loco I have to say the co-operation issues are greatly exaggerated... She is just a bit determined how she wants it. 😉 That she would reach such an age was not given... Two world wars and a fire at the locomotive shed at Skulerud could have ended the life of this machine a long time ago, but in the old days people did not give up so easily. A machine damaged by fire would probably be scrapped today, but not in 1944... Setskogen was inside the locomotive shed when it burned down to the ground one January night. All attempts to rescue her from the burning building were in vain... But as soon as the ruin had cooled down she was pulled out and taken to the workshop, and already in March of the same year she was out and about again! Less than 20 years later, her existence was again threatened, when the railway was shut down and the equipment sold or scrapped. But a group of enthusiasts managed to save both her and Høland, and thanks to that effort, they both chug around the rebuilt section of tracks to this day. She probably came to UHB a while before the newspaper wrote about her, but in the world of the books we have set her birthday to the day she was first written about since I have not been able to find out exactly when she was put into service. Anyway... 114 is a solid age, but she's still fit for her age. May she live another hundred years!

I had a wonderful time on the train up and down the line, getting a chance to have a tour around the railway, for allowing me to enter in the cabs of Holand, Bingsfos and Pyrdz and even letting ride in Bingsfos too. As the two programs would have shared common engineering resources, it was not unrealistic in those days to expect that was the direction the McDonnell Douglas was headed. ⁣ ⁣ One of the selling points for the MD-88 for Delta Airlines was the possibility of such a re-engining program. For McDonnell Douglas, getting the Delta order breathed life into the MD-80 program that was losing ground to the Boeing 737 and the Airbus A320. ⁣ ⁣ This aircraft, N990DL, was delivered to Delta in December 1991 and was withdrawn from use in April 2020. President Takafumi Horie, said the rocket, Momo-2, exploded at around 5:30 a.m., just after it was launched in Taiki. The unmanned 1-ton rocket, which was 10 meters long and 50 cm in diameter, marked the second failure in a row for Interstellar Technologies. Last July, it tried to get its Momo-1 rocket to an altitude of over 100 km but had to abort after losing contact some 70 seconds into the flight. It originally planned to launch Momo-2 in late April but pushed back the date due to a nitrogen leak. The failure suggests a difficult road ahead for private rockets. The project members were shocked and dismayed.

A/N: We had a great day at UHB today despite not being able to run any trains due to the drought. A little slow start, so I was thinking not many would come, but after the first I had five more read throughs with full seats each time! Also a super booksale afterwards, so much so the shop ordered half of what is left of my stock. :-) Many also asked for the second book, so I will have to put in an extra effort to finish it this summer. I should get more time now that I have vacation from work.
I don't think Høland liked having a face mask on though, he did try to smash my knee cap in... So we decided to punish him by leaving the face on until next weekend. XD

Chapter 7 Patah Hati
Aku tiba di rumah dini hari, ke dapur dan mencari kopi, kemudian membuka laptopku. Saat di Jogja kemarin, Dimas sempat bertanya-tanya apakah aku masih menyimpan foto itu di dompet, dan bahkan aku baru menyadari, aku belum mengganti wallpaper di laptopku bertahun-tahun, masih foto yang sama. Beberapa hari lalu aku pernah mencari Vlog milik Dharma, sekarang giliran Vlog milik Chyntia. Vlog milik Chyntia kebanyakan adalah tutorial dasar belajar cello. Kunci-kunci nada, dan ternyata ada tutorial memasang senar yang putus di sponsori iklan toko alat musik milik ibunya. Aku melihat koleksi videonya yang lain, ada video Chyntia berjudul “Gypsy Airs” dia memainkan cellonya dengan tempo cepat selama 2 menit, kemudian menit berikutnya masih di video itu Chyntia memberikan tutorialnya dengan animasi tempo lambat. Aku menggaruk kepala, lagu apapula itu. Di akhir video, Chyntia mengucapkan terimakasih kepada idolanya Luka Sulic musisi cello asal Kroasia.
Bagaimana dengan Yuki?
Sejak dulu Yuki tidak begitu akrab dengan social media. Jejaknya sulit ditemukan meskipun mengetik namanya di google. Sekali, aku pernah menemukan jejak nya di Website KBRI di Jepang, saat dia menjadi salah satu relawan korban gempa. Yuki pernah membuat facebook, isinya kebanyakan tag foto atau tag post dari orang lain. Tapi dua tahun belakangan ini kosong.
“Kau sudah sampai rumah, Nak?”
Aku menoleh dan tersenyum pada Ibu.
“Iya, bu. Baru saja,” aku berdiri, menaruh kopiku, dan membuatkan ibu teh hangat. Aku menguap lebar. Badan pegal-pegal, ingin tidur sejenak. Ah sudahlah sudah pagi. Sebentar lagi aku harus berangkat ke kantor. Aku meregangkan tanganku.
Ibu duduk di belakang laptop tersenyum menatapku dalam diam, aku menggaruk kepala yang tidak gatal, pasti ada sesuatu yang ingin dikatakan.
Aku berdeham pelan, dan mulai pura-pura sibuk memperhatikan laptopku begitu teh hangat tadi sudah berpindah tangan.
Tatapan Ibu sama seperti tatapan matanya sepuluh tahun yang lalu saat Ibu bertanya padaku siapa nama gadis itu yang telah membuat aku tiba-tiba tersenyum aneh sepulang sekolah, sesosok yang pernah aku lihat dari kejauhan saat hari pertama di SMA, yang pernah aku ajak bicara saat dia sendirian di kantin, dan dia juga pernah tak sengaja melewati depan rumahku pertama kali saat berjualan Yogurt, dan juga seorang gadis yang pernah memberikan aku tiket untuk datang ke konsernya. Yuki juga pernah menemani ibu membuat kue dan memasak. Mereka berdua sangat akrab.
Aku bukan anak SMA lagi, rasanya tidak nyaman ditatap Ibu seperti itu.
“Andi.”
Aku mengangkat wajah, nyengir menatap Ibu. Ibu balas tersenyum padaku.
“Yuki kemarin menelepon, dia bilang kau akan ke Jepang dan akan menyempatkan bertemu dengannya, apa benar?”
Aku mengangguk.
Ibu kembali tersenyum. Kemudian kembali menatapku dengan tatapannya yang tadi. Aku menarik napas. Aku tidak mau membahas Yuki lagi kali ini.
Hening.
Ibu mulai bicara lagi saat aku mengalihkan mataku dari laptop dan menatapnya kembali.
“Andi, kau sudah dewasa, dan ini adalah keputusanmu. Pastikan, saat kau nanti bertemu lagi dengan Yuki, kau sudah selesai dengan dirimu sendiri,” Ibu tersenyum menatapku.
Mataku tidak berkedip, hening lagi sesaat.
Lalu Aku tersenyum cengengesan, tidak balas berkomentar, menyeruput kopiku yang masih panas.
Ibu lebih dari tau dan mengerti aku tidak pernah lagi mencoba untuk membicarakan Yuki sejak dua tahun yang lalu. Sudah bertahun-tahun lamanya aku sangat merindukannya. Bertahun-tahun pula sebelumnya aku berusaha untuk bisa datang ke negeri asal Yuki dilahirkan. Bertemu dengan pamannya di daerah Sapporo. Tapi sekuat apa pun aku mencoba, menyempatkan atau bahkan meminta Lisa untuk mengirimku ke Negara Yuki, selalu tak sengaja kutemui berbagai rintangan yang harus aku hadapi. Sikut-sikut menyikut antar tim engineer yang lain, tim ku akhirnya malah dikirim ke Kalimantan, berikutnya ke Flores, Aceh. Ada beberapa jenjang yang harus aku lalui selama berbulan-bulan. Tapi tidak pernah berhasil. Tapi tahun ini, saat aku memiliki kesempatan untuk bertemu dengan Yuki, kondisi dan kenyataannya ternyata amat berbeda dengan ekspetasiku.
“Terkadang hidup yang kau keluhkan adalah hidup yang orang lain inginkan, Kawan.” Yuki menenangkan hatiku. Tiga tahun lalu, saat aku misuh - misuh cerita tentang obsesi dan perjuanganku selama berbulan-bulan yang tak kunjung bersambut.
Aku ingin bertemu dengannya. Walaupun mungkin hanya beberapa jam, karena pekerjaanku.
“Bersyukurlah, setidaknya kau terhindar dari berbuat curang, "Yuki melanjutkan lagi kalimatnya.
Aku bercerita pada Yuki ketika kami sedang bermalam di laboratorium. Aku memakai komputer Ketua Asisten Lab milik Dimas, ada perangkat tambahan webcam di atas monitor tabungnya.
"Kau masih muda, Andi. Jalanmu masih panjang. Ingat, kau juga masih mahasiswa. Entah sudah berapa lama bolos kuliah kau,” Dimas meneriakiku dari bilik aslab, menirukan suara perempuan, dia menebak apa yang akan Yuki katakan berikutnya. Aku diam, wajahku memerah.
Yuki tergelak, “Itu suara Dimas ya?”
Aku mengangguk. Yuki tertawa lagi. Sejenak aku diam memperhatikannya tertawa geli, aku ingin bertemu langsung, bukan percakapan virtual seperti ini.
“Sekarang giliranmu bercerita,” sahutku, menguap setelah Yuki selesai tertawa.
Yuki tersenyum, tawa nya sudah selesai, dan dia memajukan kursi di depan laptopnya di belahan bumi lain di benua yang sama.
“Kau mau dengar apa saja yang aku kerjakan selama sebulan ini, Andi?” mata Yuki berbinar - binar, penuh cahaya. Sinar dari matanya yang sangat aku sukai.
Aku mengangguk.

Aku berpamitan pada Ibu, mengabari akan pulang tengah malam lagi. 30 menit kemudian, Aku berlarian di stasiun, mengecek arloji, berlari ke arah jalur kereta yang akan berangkat lebih dulu.
Aku menghela napas begitu sudah ada di dalam gerbong, dan ada suara perempuan memanggilku.
“Andi,”
Aku menoleh. Chyntia?
Aku terdiam, kenapa akhir-akhir ini aku sering berjumpa dengan orang-orang yang membuatku teringat akan sosok Yuki?
Chyntia tersenyum dan mendekat, berdiri di sampingku. Tetap berjarak. Chyntia sejak dulu tau aku tidak suka berdiri terlalu dekat dengan perempuan. Meski aku sangat akrab dengan dia dan Yuki.
“Kau jadi bertemu dengan Yuki?”
“Diundur, Chyntia. Seminggu lagi.” sahutku, tersenyum.
Chnytia menatapku, aku melihat ke depan kearah jendela kereta.
“Ternyata kau tidak banyak berubah, Andi,” Chyntia tersenyum. “Setelah pertemuan tak disengaja sore itu, bersama Rio ponakan kami. Aku dan Dharma membicarakan kita berempat waktu dulu. Dan ternyata hari ini malah bertemu kau lagi.”
Pintu kereta mulai tertutup, kemudian membuka lagi. Orang-orang berlarian bahkan ada yang melompat cepat-cepat masuk ke dalam kereta. Kemudian kali ini benar-benar tertutup dan kereta mulai bergerak perlahan. Aku memperhatikan jendela, ada beberapa orang menghela napas, terhenti di depan pintu kereta yang sudah tertutup.
Meskipun masih di stasiun pertama, tapi isi gerbong sudah padat, aku meminta Chyntia untuk pindah ke pojok dekat pintu, supaya tidak terlalu berdesakan dengan penumpang lain yang isinya kebanyakan laki-laki.
“Kau tidak banyak berubah, Andi. Masih tetap seperti dulu.”
“Apanya?”
“Kau tetap sopan pada perempuan, tidak pernah sekedar usil menepuk bahu kami, tidak mau salaman, sebisa mungkin tidak menatap lama-lama.”
Aku tertawa. “Benarkah?”
“Secara fisik kau memang berubah. Tapi sifatmu sepertinya kurang lebih masih sama.”
Aku nyengir. Chyntia belum tau kehidupanku di kampus dan di tempat kerja bagaimana. Hal-hal paradoks yang harus aku jumpai pada perempuan dan aku hindari demi menjaga diriku sendiri sebagai laki-laki.
“Sepertinya kau dulu amat menyukai, Yuki.” Chyntia nyengir.
Aku mengernyit, dan tertawa, berusaha menyembunyikan apa yang pernah aku rasakan. “Maksudmu?”
“Caramu menatap Yuki berbeda dengan caramu menatapku, Andi.” Chyntia terkekeh. “Aku juga pernah melihatmu dengan teman-temanmu yang lain, kau malah usil dan ramai. Bersama kami kau lebih banyak diam, mungkin… karena ada Yuki,” Chyntia tersenyum lembut.
Kalimat Chyntia ada benarnya. Wajahku datar tanpa ekspresi, supaya Chyntia tidak bisa membaca apa yang sedang aku pikirkan.
“Andi, boleh aku menebak?”
Aku menaikkan alis, menebak apa?
“Kau terlalu sibuk jatuh cinta diam-diam, sampai tak ada satupun yang tau, kau patah hati begitu dalam*.”
Mataku tidak berkedip. Tak lama setelah Chyntia mengucapkan kalimat itu, kereta kami berpapasan dengan kereta lain. Hanya ada suara kereta yang berpapasan. Hening.

Suatu pagi, sehari setelah aku dan Dimas dihukum oleh guru BK. Pagi itu aku melihat Yuki menangis tanpa suara di kelas dari kaca yang menyatu di atas pintu. Hari ini dia datang lebih pagi dari biasanya. Hanya ada Yuki seorang diri di dalam kelas. Pintu terbuka lebar, Yuki tidak menyadari aku memperhatikannya.
Aku urung masuk kelas, menunggu di luar.
Sekolah masih sepi, hanya terdengar kicau burung, bau daun yang basah selepas hujan dini hari tadi, dan suara sapu lidi Mang Ijal.
Sepertinya Yuki masih lelah pasca tur konsernya selama seminggu mengelilingi kota-kota besar yang menghabiskan waktu latihannya berbulan-bulan. Selama beberapa hari ini Yuki mulai merasa tertekan, Guru Seni di sekolah kami menunjuknya untuk
Selain itu pula, bulan depan grup orkestranya djadwalkan mengiringi acara drama musikal yang akan tayang di televisi.
Aku menunggu di luar kelas, entah sudah berapa menit, sama sekali tak ada suara dari dalam kelas. Hening. Aku membuka ranselku, mencari buku harian. Mengecek agenda dan jadwalku selama sebulan, Latihan soal Fisika, latihan soal Matematika, Latihan Soal Kimia, Latihan soal Biologi, deadline tugas-tugas makalah dan presentasi yang belum aku selesaikan, jadwal Ulangan Harian Bersama (UHB) setiap Sabtu, jadwal rapat ekskul sore hari, jadwal ekskul di hari Minggu, jadwal praktikum minggu ketiga bulan ini, jadwal ronda RT akhir bulan nanti menggantikan Ayah saat beliau keluar kota. Aktivitas Olahragaku di Hari Minggu setelah subuh sebelum kegiatan pagi di sekolah.
Aku melotot keheranan, menepuk dahi, sejak kapan buku harianku jadi penuh begini dengan jadwal. Mencoba mencari oase, membalik halaman terakhir, ada sketsa wajah Yuki yang pernah kubuat. Sketsa ini umurnya sudah lebih dari satu tahun.
“Hai, Andi. Kau sudah lama disana?”Aku gelagapan, cepat-cepat menutup buku harianku. Yuki tiba-tiba muncul di sampingku dari salah satu pintu yang terbuka. Pipinya sudah kering, warna hidungnya seperti biasa. Tidak ada tanda-tanda habis menangis. Tapi sinar di matanya yang amat kukenal belum kembali. Wajahnya terlihat lelah.
Belum lama,” Sahutku, tersenyum kaku padanya. Aku berdeham, “Wajahmu kenapa?”
“Aku belum tidur, kemarin latihan sampai tengah malam. Aku baru sampai rumah dini hari tadi.” Yuki tertawa, suaranya serak.
Aku terdiam, tidak sanggup berkomentar, aku tidak begitu mengenal dunianya. Aku hanya khawatir dia jatuh sakit.
Hening.
Yuki tersenyum, lalu meninggalkanku untuk sarapan di kantin.
Pelajaran pertama dimulai, aku melihat ke belakang, ke arah Yuki. Ternyata dia tertidur di meja.
Aku memberi isyarat pada Siti untuk membangunkannya. Yuki terbangun, mengucek-ucek matanya, aku menghela napas. Yuki menguap lebar dan mengeluarkan tugasnya dari tas, dan mengumpulkannya seperti teman-teman yang lain. Aku mencari tugasku yang ada di meja tadi barusan. Hilang kemana?
Aku ke depan dan memberi tau Ibu guru, tugasku tidak dibawa.
“Tadi Yuki yang mengumpulkannya ke depan, Andi bersama dengan tugas miliknya,” sahut Bu Ina nyaring sehingga seisi kelas bisa mendengar suara beliau.
“Cieh….,” seisi kelas riuh rendah menyoraki kami berdua.
Aku menepuk dahi, dan Yuki tergelak di kursinya. Kantuknya seketika hilang.
Ah, sudahlah.
Pulang sekolah Yuki menghindariku, dia diam seribu bahasa. BIasaya dia akan tersenyum riang dan mulai membicarakan rencananya di akhir pekan, atau sekedar menanyaiku tentang pertandingan sepakbola tadi malam, membicarakan komik yang baru terbit, Seri Novel Harry Potter yang baru terbit, dan Yuki tidak bisa membacanya, waktu dia akhir-akhir ini banyak dihabiskan untuk latihan biola. Tapi, kali ini Yuki langsung keluar dari kelas dan melewatiku begitu saja.
"Andi, jangan kau pikirkan, dia bukan sedang marah padamu. Ini siklus musiman yang biasa terjadi padanya.” Chyntia berusaha menjelaskan padaku ketika suatu sore aku menunggunya keluar dari gerbang sekolahnya. Sudah seminggu Yuki mendadak jadi aneh. Selalu menghindar saat jam istirahat atau sepulang sekolah. Ternyata ada hal yang aku tak mengerti dari salah satu kebiasaan Yuki, kebiasaannya menyendiri dan mendadak jadi tertutup. Menghilang dan menghindar dari sahabat-sahabatnya untuk kemudian akhirnya muncul kembali dan tertawa riang seperti biasanya. Chyntia bercerita padaku bahwa ini adalah siklus musiman, siklus musiman yang bisa terjadi entah berapa tahun sekali atau beberapa kali dalam setahun.
Chyntia hari ini mengenakan seragam putih dan rok kotak-kotak pendek. Aku jadi terlihat mencolok berada di depan gerbang sekolahnya. Tapi aku tak peduli.
Chyntia terlihat berpikir sesaat, dan sedikit merenung
"Hmm… dari ceritamu, sepertinya kali ini akan lebih lama dari biasanya. Jangan khawatir, dia akan membaik. Aku yakin dia akan cerita padamu ketika masalahnya telah selesai.”
Aku belum beranjak, masih merasa ada yang janggal dengan Yuki.

If 2 engines are the same builder, same class, are they brothers? What if they are same builder, different class?

"How many times do we have to answer this though...? We don't think about it often, as most of us aren't related. Most of us don't even have the same class, despite looking very similar. We have only two sets of siblings: Urskog and Eidsverket, who were identical twins, Bjørkelangen and Høland who are brothers, one year apart, built from the same blue prints. If two engines are from the same builder, same class, same blue prints, same order (if the railway ordered them at the same time), we consider them siblings, that's how not all Di.3s are brothers and sisters, despite being from the same builder and same class. Why are some of you so obsessed with this anyway??"

What type if engines or locomotives are holland prydz and setzkogen? Please let me know because I am a fuerntologist in learning or training.
These engines didn't have any class until NSB classified them in 1945 as they were custom built for UHB, not mass-produced.

No.6 Høland is one of two of his class, the other being No.5 Bjørkelangen: NSB class XXIXa. He is a two cylinder superheater engine built by Hartmann in 1925 based on Bjørkelangen's blue-prints.

Prydz is a NSB class XXIXb. She was built by Henschel in 1950 and is a twin cylinder superheater engine, just like Høland and Bjørkelangen, though with a copper plated firebox.

Setskogen on the other hand is very different from the other two, despite looking identical... She is a NSB class XXVIII and the only one of her class. She is a twin cylinder wet steam engine, built by Hartmann in 1909.
