Hey guys! Here today I would love to tell y’all about one of my all time favorite songs. This love song talks about a man’s true love for a woman, saying in the song, “I’ll love you till my lungs give out, I ain’t lying, I’m all your’n and your all mine”. The song is “All Your’n” by Tyler Childers. Childers is an incredible singer, paired with incredible musicians. I love this song and highly recommend it to anyone that likes country music and/or love songs. I heard him sing this song in concert and it was an amazing experience.

Tyler Childers Extends Fall Headline Tour; Returning to Dallas on December 16th with a Gig at The Rustic
youtube
Acclaimed singer, songwriter and performer Tyler Childers will extend his nationwide, headline tour this fall with several newly confirmed shows including Nashville’s Exit/In (two nights), Atlanta’s Variety Playhouse, Oklahoma City’s Tower Theater and Dallas’ The Rustic among others. Tickets are on-sale now. These performances celebrate a breakthrough year for Childers, which saw the release of his critically acclaimed debut album, Purgatory. The record—produced by Sturgill Simpson and David Ferguson—landed on multiple “Best of 2017” lists including Rolling Stone, Vice’s Noisey, Wide Open Country and NPR Music, who praised, “The intimacy he conjures is his gift, in this private moment made universal, and throughout his remarkable official debut.” Additionally, Childers is nominated for “Emerging Artist of the Year” at the 2018 Americana Music Association Honors & Awards and also made his Grand Ole Opry debut earlier this spring.
Of the album, the Lawrence Country, KY native comments, “I am extremely grateful for Miles Miller introducing me to Sturgill Simpson, and also for Sturgill and David Ferguson taking the time to work with me. I think we both wanted to make an album for east KY, and I reckon that’s what we did. It’s not about rock, or grass, or country…it’s just hollerin’ in the mountains and stirring shit up! The band Sturgill and David put together was an all-star cast, and an honor to work with and learn from. I hope to do it again, but once is more than most are blessed with. For that I am thankful.” Current Tour Dates: 2018 June 22—Hamilton, OH—Whimmydiddle Country Music Festival 23—Ashland, KY—Paramount Arts Center (SOLD-OUT) 28—Louisville, KY—A Grassroots Fundraiser for Johnny Boone (SOLD-OUT) 29—Lexington, KY—Manchester Music Hall (SOLD-OUT) 30—Lexington, KY—Manchester Music Hall (SOLD-OUT) July 11—Vail, CO—Vail Summer Bluegrass Series 14—Telluride, CO—The Ride Festival 18—Dallas, TX—Canton Hall (SOLD-OUT) 19—Austin, TX—Historic Scoot Inn (SOLD-OUT) 20—Houston, TX—White Oak Music Hall 21—Helotes, TX—John T. Lollapalooza Thursday Picks: 8/2, Grant Park, Chicago
Tumblr media
Stars; Photo by Shervin Lainez
BY JORDAN MAINZER
Finally, I resisted the urge to go to Lollapalooza this year after 3 years of increasing mediocrity. But if you’re going today, make sure to catch these acts.
Tyler Childers, 1:45, Lake Shore Stage
We previewed Tyler Childers’ show at SPACE back in February:
“Kentucky country singer Tyler Childers has been up-and-coming for over half a decade. He finally broke out last year with Purgatory, an album co-produced by Sturgill Simpson and David Ferguson. Really, though, Childers is the star of the show, his rough twang and storytelling earning him rightful comparisons to early Steve Earle.”
Stars, 2:45, Grant Park Stage
Canadian indie rockers Stars are touring off of last year’s There Is No Love In Flourescent Light, but they’ve essentially been touring off of 2004 breakout Set Yourself On Fire for their entire career. They’ve never really been able to recapture the magic of that album, and they know it, using songs like “Ageless Beauty” and “Your Ex-Lover Is Dead” to basically bookend their anthemic sets.
All Time Low, 4:00, Tito’s Handmade Vodka Stage
Warped Tour stalwarts All Time Low bring pop punk back to Lollapalooza a year after releasing their most mature album to date, 2017′s Last Young Renegade, as well as two new singles. They’re the type of band who will bring die-hard fans to spend on an entire day pass just to see them, something they should be thankful for. Otherwise, they’d be stuck nowhere to be in the ever-expanding Lollapalooza split between indie rock and EDM.
Franz Ferdinand, 4:45, Grant Park Stage
For their 5th album Always Ascending, Glasgow stars Franz Ferdinand tick the expected boxes: disco jam here (the title track, “Feel The Love Go”), new wave sarcasm there (“Glimpse of Love”). The album and songs are decent, but in the past, even flops like Tonight: Franz Ferdinand came with slinking or psychedelic surprises. At Lollapalooza, though, their consistency is exactly what you’ll want. Self-titled debut hits, You Could Have It So Much Better standouts, and everything else that sounds like them: it’s a formula that’s worked for the band up until now, so why fix what’s broken?
Arctic Monkeys, 8:45, Grant Park Stage
From quintessentially Northern English sarcasm and witticisms to psychedelia to bad boy greaser. Arctic Monkeys’ Alex Turner has lived quite the musical lives, some with more critical success than others. His latest? Somewhere between Brian Wilson and Harry Nilsson, but even more zonked out. Turner holed up to record Tranquility Base Hotel + Casino, a Steinway-infused pseudo-noir concept album about a base on the moon where Arctic Monkeys are the house band. The usual charm and problems of a city are present (gentrification--oh look, a taqueria!), as is Turner’s wry observational humor, which is about the only thing that ties it to the band’s previous material.

POST #23 - Brock Thompson, “Sippin’ on a Memory”
Y’all, back on November 22nd, 2019 West Virginian Brock Thompson released his sophomore EP, “Sippin’ on a Memory.” He celebrated the release of the 6 song album with what I hear was a damn good release party with his friends Creek Don’t Rise at the Big Sandy Superstore Arena Grand Ballroom in Huntington, West Virginia.
On the record, Brock was backed by a hell of a good band with the likes of Mike Rojas on keys, Corky Holbrook on bass, Mike Johnson on pedal steel, Brian Fullen on drums, and Tammy Rogers on the fiddle. These artists have played with The Steeldrivers, Billy Ray Cyrus, Tyler Childers, Reba, Justin Moore, Shania Twain and more. With backers like that, you can see why this kid will be going places. He’s got the drive, the voice, and the knowledge of who’s who.
“Gave Me The Boot” is the 1st track on the album was actually the 1st single as well. I jumped on that song as soon as it came out and reviewed the single in order to get people on the Brock Thompson train as soon as possible. You can find that single review here: https://hillbillyhippiemusicreview.tumblr.com/post/188125994896/post-18-brock-thompson-gave-me-the-boot-yall
The 2nd track is the namesake of the EP, “Sippin’ on a Memory.” “Sippin’ on a Memory” talks about reflection of good times through alcohol. Y’all know what I’m talking about, you remember downin’ that bottle of bottom shelf Benchmark Bourbon and the good times that came with it. Or in all honesty, ya probably don’t. Anywho, instead of grabbin’ a beer, the ol’ boy in the song decides he needs something a bit stronger and grabs a dusty bottle from the back of the cabinet. He instantly remembers all the rowdy times he and his buddies had throwin’ down some of the good stuff. They were raisin’ hell like good ol’ boys do. Y’all, this is a roll the windows down and cruise in the pickup song right here.
“Problems” is Brock’s 3rd song on the album. Y’all, for a 20 year old, Brock digs deep onto this one. He starts by talking about all the ‘problems’ we have in everyday life. Things like shitty WiFi, stubbin’ your toe (which hurts like the dickens), losing the TV remote, and not being able to find a parking space. Then he goes into real problems like our men and women fighting for our freedom overseas, homelessness, and empty church pews. Brock digs deep to shed lights on what the real problems are, basically telling us to suck it up, because we have a damn good life. Y’all, I agree with him, we have it pretty good. And while I’m thinking about it, the Hillbilly Hippie Music Reviews wants to extend a sincere thank you to all of those men and women serving in the armed forces. Y’all make it possible for us to go out every weekend and enjoy the music that these artists are producing!
Brock’s 4th track on this EP is one that is a fun party song about gold diggin’ ol’ ladies. In “Human ATM,” the poor fella couldn’t keep his lights on and buy a case of cold beer because his woman spent all of his money. Fellas, y’all know what I’m talking about. There ain’t none of y’all been married over 3 years and got more than $24 in your wallet. Anyways, before I ramble too much and my wife reads this, y’all give “Human ATM” a listen, its a good one. Let me know what ya think of it, I’ll probably be browsin’ Facebook while I’m sleeping on the couch tonight...
The 5th song on the album is yet another booze inspired song, “Night to Remember.” Y’all know what I’m talking about, “this is a night to remember, that I’ve already forgot.” Again, booze is prevalent in a lot of the country songs we love, and let’s be honest, booze is prevalent in our lives too. This might be my favorite on the album, so with that being said, y’all check it out and give me your thoughts; I don’t wanna ruin it for ya.
Finally, the last song on the album, and the 2nd single is “I Can’t Change.” All of us relate, we can’t quite drinkin, or smokin, or ramblin. We can’t change who we are, no matter how much the world or the women in our lives want us to. That’s what this song is about, and you can sense some truth in it.
Y’all, that’s my review of “Sippin’ on a Memory” by my good buddy Brock Thompson. Brock is only 20 years old, but he is takin’ this music thing by the horns. He’s got one of the best and most unique voices of any newcomer out there. His voice is by no means like that of Randy Travis, but just like Randy’s voice is unmistakable, so is Brock’s. I’ve already told y’all he is a mix of Garth, Jon Pardi, and Cody Johnson. This kid is going places! Give him a follow on social media, check out his tunes wherever you listen to music and follow his tour dates and buy some merch here:
https://brockthompsonmusic.com
As always, y’all support local music (wherever you are), support independent artists, and buy merch.
Until next time.
-Cheers, N.

Music Man Taylor Hicks Continues His Longstanding Tradition of Giving Back to Our Veterans
Tumblr media
From the moment he won the fifth season of American Idol, Taylor Hicks has let his heart lead him in his musical journey. And recently, that heart of his led him to the organization NS2 Serves. NS2 Serves® is an independent, nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization whose purpose is to give back to the community it serves by training and employing veterans in high-tech careers. The course is open to post-9/11 U.S. military service veterans and reservists (including disabled veterans), service members with orders to leave active duty, and Gold Star spouses who meet eligibility requirements. From October 10-24, Hicks will not only tour across the East Coast, but he will be also donating a pair of tickets and meet-and-greet packages for all six shows to a silent auction that will directly benefit NS2 Serves. Recently, One Country sat down with the soulful music man to talk about his work with NS2 Serves and why these opportunities are making his career more fulfilling than ever right now. ONE COUNTRY: Can you tell us a little more about how you hooked up with NS2 Serves? TAYLOR HICKS: “(NS2 Serves PR consultant) Laurie Baker works there and we have been really close for a long time. She has done work in that space for over a decade, so when she explained to me about NS2 Serves, I knew I wanted to somehow get involved. This is by far the most effective and most brilliantly laid out veteran program I have seen her with. This organization is just common sense, with a lot of people working together to do something amazing.” ONE COUNTRY: Working with veterans is something you have done for years. How have your interactions with the service men and women of our country changed you? TAYLOR HICKS: “Luckily for me, I have been able to travel all over the world and I have been able to see how much the cost of freedom actually costs. I grew up with people who were in the service. These are the people we have to take care of. I think everyone should have access to see a third world country to see what the cost of freedom truly is. It’s always struck a chord with me.” ONE COUNTRY: It must be cool to use your music in a way in which you not only entertain people, but you find a way to give back. TAYLOR HICKS: “Definitely. These intimate shows we are going to be doing is a great way to have a veteran come out and enjoy a night of good music. It’s the least I can do.” ONE COUNTRY: We hear rumblings that new music is just around the corner. Can you confirm? TAYLOR HICKS: “I’ve spent about the last year and a half recording at Zac Brown’s Southern Ground studio in Nashville. It’s such a great space to record in. And yes, new music is coming and I’m really excited about it. I want this upcoming record to be a true representation of who I am and who I have always wanted to be. You can pigeon hole the sound of a lot of people these days, but you can’t pigeon hole me. (Laughs.)” ONE COUNTRY: So very true. It’s almost as if this is the perfect time for your brand of music, don't you think? TAYLOR HICKS: “I definitely think so. I mean, look at some of the artists that are out there right now like Chris Stapleton and Tyler Childers. The sincerity of the song itself is coming back.” To view the tour dates and place a bid on ticket packages, please visit: bidpal.net/taylorhicks Read the full article
