Hey all, today has been a very very very long day. I’m typing this with my eyeballs glazed over and half open. However, so much has happened in such a little amount of time I wanted share a few things before I pass out I know a lot of you are in different timezones, are busy with life, and taking a break, so maybe this will help with parsing through some of the crazy stuff the crew has been up to.

Fundraisers: I didn’t even realize there were two different fundraisers for Palestine/Gaza going on but we blew both out of the water. (Note: the second picture is from a November campaign but I think its just as important to highlight— ty for the correction anon!)

I saw (and experienced) people reblogging asks where random followers, anons, and mutuals just reached out and sent love because they could tell people were struggling.

I've seen comments all over the place on Tumblr, IG, Twitter, and Facebook where each and every person is encouraging each other to speak their mind, or complimenting their artwork, encouraging them if they were feeling uncomfortable with things outside their comfort zones, coming up with new and exciting ways to fight back, people reaching out to the cast/crew just to say hi and remind them we love them.

I've seen Self-Care checkpoints all over, reminding people to drink water, take a break, block your notifications for a while, not engaging in negative behavior.

I've seen people being so nice on instagram posts that the people who were being dicks about all our comments turned around and decided to watch OFMD!

I saw so many people doing new analysis of scenes and characters, and having really deep and friendly discussions that make everyone think in new ways.

I saw people digging through old tumblrs to bring life back to old posts and artwork.

I saw so much NEW artwork, new FICS! New GIFS! So much new art and love!

I could literally go on and on, but I've just...I had to dump this out of my brain otherwise I'd explode. I've just seen so much today that continues to make me so proud of our little safe space ship and so happy to be apart of this community.

You all continue to be the best of the best of humans, and I am so very grateful to get to witness and be apart of it. Rest up lovelies and have a good day / night, wherever you may be. Do you have any tips for gming for oneshots or more episodic style campaigns? I'm wanting to run a scum and villainy/galactic 2e game for my friends but with all our vastly different responsibilities and unreliable schedules we probably wont be able to play more than once a month at most, and likely not even with the same people every time. How do you prepare for that kind of episodic play that can be set up and reach a resolution within the same session?

The main thing with running one shots and single session adventures is organizing yourself around time. Many times I've seen people talk about how their one shot turned into a four shot, which is fine if everyone is up for that possibility, but it sounds like you're pretty restricted.

The first thing is that it helps if you run games that you are fairly familiar with. This isn't necessary but it does help with judging how long a group will take to work through the adventure. Not only will you have a better idea for how challenging an obstacle is but you'll also be able to answer any rules questions more quickly.

Planning for what the session IS, even before planning the adventure, goes a long way. What is your pitch of the adventure to your players? Is everyone doing character creation beforehand? What about reviewing safety tools like Lines & Veils? How familiar are the players with the system? How much time will you have for playing? These are all important questions to have answers to.

If the players are unfamiliar with the rules and you have the time, you may want to consider doing character creation step by step as a group. This way you can also steer players away from any skills or abilities that are completely irrelevant to what you have planned; if you're having a desert adventure, they probably don't need to take water walking/breathing spells, for example.

GMs have different valves for controlling the speed that the players move through an adventure. You make things harder than originally planned if they are flying through the adventure and easier if they are struggling. They won't notice because either the danger is ramping up or they are excited about their success.

You can adjust:

The obstacles' offense

The obstacles' defense

How aggressive obstacles are

The locations of objectives/clues

How helpful side characters are

How much control the players have over the narrative (aka just rolling with it)

All of the above will help keep your adventures to a single session.

When I run games at conventions, I follow the above advice and can run a full Beam Saber mission in 4 hours, including 1 hour for character creation.

As for doing an episodic campaign, the first step is to come up with a conceit that allows the mix of characters to change between sessions based on availability. You can hand wave absent characters more easily than you can present characters who are VERY quiet for a while. A good set up is having a central employer/fixer who hires each character on a contractual basis. Once the current job is done, they may or may not get hired again for the next one.

Next is tying the episodes together. There are two ways that I do this:

A string of pearls. Each episode is directly connected to the one before it by a thread. This may be something major like an ongoing antagonist, or small like a one off macguffin item. It doesn't have to be the same thread between every episode but having each connected to the one before gives a sense of continuity for any players who are there consistently.

A tree branch. Each episode is unconnected to the ones that come before and after, but ALL of them are connected to the same central plot. For example you may have several episodes that are all about how an organization harms people, but those people and the way they are harmed is unconnected. This creates a central theme for the episodic campaign to build itself around while allowing space for players that aren't familiar with The Lore to focus on the problem in front of them.

This is a Tyrone/Tandy fic, because I love and miss my kids terribly.

There's a concept that I cut from the last chapter of by land, by sea that involved Ty DM-ing a DnD campaign for some of the kids at the place where he was a counselor, and I cherished it for months without really knowing what to do with it.

It has since grown a bit beyond that concept but I kept the title because it made my heart happy. Here's an excerpt:

“You have to hit one of the branches on the other bank.” Ty looks down at his notes, then back up at Cass and the rest of the party. “Alright. You’re going to need an 18, but remember you have a plus-two to acrobatics.”

He doesn’t end up needing it: the other four kids watch intently as Cass rolls the die and burst into cheers when it skitters across the table and lands in front of Ty on a 20.

The DM is supposed to be neutral, but Ty can’t help but laugh. “Okay, fine, you made it across the river. Y’all want to know if the cyclops is dead, or should we just celebrate until he gets us?”

That gets everyone to quiet down, clutching their character sheets nervously as they gesture for him to go on. Ty waits a beat to prolong the drama, biting back a grin when they all lean in a little closer. With an eye on the clock, he spins out a tale of Cass’s character heroically swinging across the river and backflipping over to the downed cyclops to discover that their last attack took him out.

“..and then,” Ty says, “when Kildrak pokes him with the staff, just to be sure, his body disappears, and all that’s left in its place is a little, jewel covered box.”

“And?” prompts Amara, the newest member of their DnD party. “What happens next?”

“You’ll find out in two weeks, ‘cause that’s all our time today,” says Ty, laughing as they groan and complain. “Alright, everyone, I want the character sheets put away with the dice and the map, please, and let’s count the dice sets this time. I don’t know how that four sided die ended up in the Captain Crunch last month, but let’s not do it again.”

Egotistically, I'm going to assume this is about my country.

So in 2016, the media found Trump's campaign so ridiculous that they essentially gave him free air time, which arguably helped win him the election. This year, they seem to have decided to treat the election as an apocalyptian fight between him and Biden, leading to lots of messaging from liberal outlets about needing to support Biden to protect democracy, which is where I'm guessing this is coming from. I think they're wrong. Biden can't protect democracy. Voting, as an idea, is one of my favorite things about the U.S. In theory, it's a non-violent revolution! To make a change we don't need to convince people to risk their lives, we just need to convince them that a certain idea is right and get them to vote for it. But this is of course not how it's actually worked. There's land-based representation in the Senate and Electoral College, gerrymandering and other shenanigans at the state level, and centuries of voter suppression tactics and outright denying the vote to various groups. Even so, the dream of democracy has helped protect this country. Enfranchised people, even if they didn't get their choice in a particular election, were promised that they'd have another chance to get their way if the system itself survived, if they maintained it. Every single one of the tactics that undermines democracy undermines that dream and the order it provides. And to those who've been disenfranchised, marginalized and suppressed, this is a good thing! The system has failed them, and the more people who are aware of that, perhaps the closer they are to fixing the system itself. My working definition of "Liberal", as the left uses the term, is people who are still under the dream's sway. People who, when they learn of the problems with voting, choose to bury their head in the sand. Who choose order over justice. I don't think voting can fix our system, not alone.

But I think it's my duty to use every tool in my toolkit to make things better, voting included. I don't believe in the brinksmanship of "let things get bad enough that we'll have to change." I believe in fighting for every foot of ground. Because, flawed as they are, elections still matter. Local officials wield enormous power at the local level and serve to reinforce and empower officials at higher levels. It's a mistake to frame Biden as the savior of democracy. This system won't be saved in the next election, but we can make things better for so many with the right people in school boards, city councils, as mayors, judges, state senators and house reps. And in concert they can do even more. Not enough, not fix, but fight for that next mile of progress. And to do that, I need to be pragmatic enough to choose the lesser of two evils when I'm given the chance.

If there's a runaway trolley full of people bearing down and another group tied to the tracks, I'm all for trying to save everyone. Let's put brakes on the tracks, let's get those people untied, whatever we can do. Let's send some people to the trolley factory, see why they keep sending out these defective trolleys. Let's get that guy who keeps tying people up.

But at the zero hour, if you put put me in that voting booth, I'm absolutely going to pull that lever to divert it to the track with one person tied down. It's not just, it's not good, and it's not going to be any comfort to the person run over or their loved ones.

I voted for Biden last time, and so what evils he does are in part on my hands. But I'm not willing to let everything fall down while I wait for perfection to come along.

If you knew how campaigning works you would not be defending transphobic Texan campaign ads in front of this website's very queer userbase. The correct defense *here*, if you must say *anything at all*, is to point out that Harris is not saying these things and that transphobia is not the position of the party at large. You do not gain trans people's trust by saying "he's right to throw you under the bus actually".

At no point did I say that it is right or okay to throw Trans people under a bus. I'm very supportive of the trans community, and I'm incredibly concerned for their safety going forward. It's quite clear that Harris lost, in a big part because of, the perception of trans issues. Tr*mp spent most of his advertising on tying Harris to pro-transgender topic and scaring transphobic people that she was "for they/them, and not for you" Which is completely wrong, by the way, Harris would have been a president for everyone. Now as for what I DID say in that post, I pointed out that Allred was running in TEXAS. Come on. It's TEXAS. I ran as a Democrat in a very Republican district, and only when asked about LGBTQ+ issues did I bring up my support of the community. Not because I'm ashamed of supporting my friends, (I'm not) but because if anyone wants to win an elected position to hopefully protect the people they care about, knowing that the majority of voters actively hate trans people, staying away from the topic is the smartest thing to do in a campaign. One of the people running for county commissioner is a transwoman amd also a furry who wears her cat ears openly (in a county that is regularly in the news for hate, sadly). I canvased many people with her and took several photos with her throughout our campaigns this year. The LGBTQ+ members of my community know who I am and that I support them. It isn't about loudly proclaiming unyielding support to a marginalized and unfortunately vastly hated demographic, because that's not what this is, and that's not what Allred did. Knowing your audience is one of the first rules of a campaign. Unfortunately people are largely hateful, ignorant, and misinformed, and now we have to do even more than before to try and protect the most vulnerable among us.

And ps. It is precisely because of this site that I love and support the LGBTQ+ community - seeing the love and the joy people have firsthand humanizes them when society actively tries to dehumanize them. I'm grateful for Tumblr for helping me avoid the right-wing nazi pipeline that cishet males my age are falling victim to more and more lately.

Please don't take this as any kind of attack, but rather understand that I know what I'm talking about, that it sucks that in the real world you have to know your audience. It sounds awful and I hate that this is the way things are, and that it's going to get worse now that Harris lost. ACON Honour Award Winners Announced

The receipients of ACON’s Honour Awards for 2024 have been announced at last night’s Honour Awards Gala at Sydney’s Doltone House Hyde Park.

The Honour Awards are the premier LGBTQ community awards celebration in New South Wales, recognising outstanding service, achievements and excellence within rainbow communities since 2007.

The 2024 recipients were recognised in a range of categories including health, HIV, youth, community, business, entertainment, visual arts and media.

“What a night – it was wonderful to hear from local heroes and organisations doing such tremendous work to improve the lives of people in LGBTQ communities,” ACON’s CEO Michael Woodhouse said.

“We are inspired and so grateful to all of them. Their vibrancy, strength and resilience give us so much joy.

“And of course, we thank all guests who joined this year’s Honour celebrations and helped raise funds for ACON. We are grateful for your support.

I don't have a song for you today, just an article, that talks about political participation on TikTok and how pointless our Chancellor's channel on TikTok is:

So, essentially the guy complains, that Olaf Scholz creates embarrassing videos, that won't help to get young people to politically participate.

He criticizes, that Scholz does not use the app to explain his politics or debate about political contents and he complains about how Olaf Scholz feeds Chinese algorithms.

Let me set things straight, as someone who has more or less studied these things:

1. The content that Scholz creates has to be pointless because AI can use his content as training data and create new, fake content with him, that can be used in political smear-campaigns. Obviously, this is way harder to do when the content you're uploading is absolutely ridiculous. Explaining his politics on TikTok means tying his own political nuse, because that exact same political content can be analysed, butchered and used for political predictions or put together into new political fake-content. TikTok is not the place for political content, if you are ACTUALLY in a politically and strategically important position, which the AfD really isn't.

The videos his team posts HAVE to be absolutely pointless to minimize the risk of delivering training data for digital smear-campaigns (fake news, desinformation, etc).

2. It's not just about gaining reach, it's also about analysing trends and digital behaviour. Especially IT-people and digital analysts do that a lot and I assume his IT-team is no exception.

Say what you want about politicians being ridiculous on social media but posting political content on social media by people in important political positions, that goes farther than the regular statements given by spokespeople and PR-teams is a reeeeeaally slippery slope and should not happen.

In the end, it honestly seems like the author himself does not understand, how social media works and projects his ignorance onto Scholz' PR- and IT-team.

Olivia has been trashed via social media, she's unemployed and un-engaged thanks to the brass knuckle tactics of Jr's hired gun, a notorious hollyweird PR fixer. Where's JFK Jr? Somewhere preening about in his Uncle Teddy's neck brace. 🤕

RFK Jr. Requests That SCOTUS Restore His Name On N.Y. Ballots

Robert F. Kennedy Jr. has asked the U.S. Supreme Court for an emergency intervention in order to get his name back on New York’s presidential ballots. 

Lower courts excluded the former Independent candidate from the ballot after ruling that he falsely claimed residency in the Empire State due to his Katonah, New York, address not being his fixed and permanent residency. 

RFK Jr. currently lives in Los Angeles, California, with his actress wife, Cheryl Hines, who is best known for her role in the television show “Curb Your Enthusiasm.” He has lived there since 2014.

The Second Circuit upheld a lower court’s decision disqualifying the Independent candidate on September 18th.

Kennedy indicated in court filings that he has continuously rented a room in the home of a childhood friend, and that he had stayed overnight on one occasion. His attorneys highlighted that the lower courts “did not find that anyone was misled” in regards to that information.

In Kennedy’s emergency appeal to the Supreme Court, he argued that his supporters in the state “have a constitutional right to have Kennedy placed on the ballot — and to vote for him, whether he is campaigning for their vote or not.”

“The address on Kennedy’s petition was and is entirely immaterial — both to voters and to New York,” his attorneys wrote in their request. 

The request was brought by Kennedy’s campaign, “American Values 2024,” a super-PAC backing him and his political endeavors.

Meanwhile, the emergency request was sent to Justice Sonia Sotomayor, who handles emergency appeals in New York. As a result, she requested New York Attorney General Letitia James (D-N.Y.) and others involved in the case respond in writing by Wednesday afternoon. 

Since suspending his campaign and supporting former President Donald Trump, Kennedy has attempted to remove his name in key battleground states, while remaining on the ballot elsewhere. The move has prompted several series of legal challenges, and the battle in New York is now the first involving Kennedy to reach the Supreme Court. 

The former Independent candidate recently urged his supporters to vote for Donald Trump in the upcoming election. Kennedy seems to be trying to take votes away from Democrat candidate Kamala Harris in the blue state of New York, which has historically been controlled by Democrats and majority Democrat voters, with the exception of the mayor of New York City from 1994 to 2001, Rudy Giuliani.

Recently, the high court also rejected a bid to put Green Party presidential candidate Jill Stein on Nevada’s ballot.
