People dissing on popular interpretations of long-running characters, like they’re not also yanking out only their favorite bits & headcanons for their fandom smoothie…

#Once /anything/ has more than 10 writers /EVERYONE/ will have at least one detail or contradiction they decide to just ignore!#One story they think is poorly written! One scene they decry as OOC!#Two details so irreconcilable that you either have to choose one or twist your headcanon into a pretzel to make sense of it!#Honestly 10 is an /incredibly/ generous number. I’d say 5 or 6 is the max that can be close-knit enough to keep everything even.#Hell even with only ONE writer you still end up with widely-agreed OOC scenes. 2 can work. 3 is a gamble. 4 is shaky. 5 can be a mess.#Long running shows. Book series written by teams of ghost writers. The mainstream comics industry. These things have DOZENS of writers!#Miss me with that hypocritical bullshit.#(#Honestly #I just wanted to use the words ‘’fandom smoothie’’ because that is how I see different groups intrpretations #and also #I think it’s funny #but then I got heated because people pissing on other people’s fun by acting like they’re above it all genuinely pisses me off #when the canon is smaller & self contained I can understand the frustration; it’s going to be more cohesive & easier to consume #which makes diverging interpretations harder to justify. The comparisons are easier to make.#Still doesn’t justify being an asshole but I do get it.#But #the HYPOCRISY of doing it in large-scale fandoms just boggles my mind.#When you have to cherry-pick to maintain coherent characterization guess what bitch? That’s your headcanon.#Canon is a tangled mess and that. Is. Your. HEADCANON. It ain’t canon because you/HAD/ to add or subtract something to make it work.#’’This episode is out of character—‘’ It’s canon. ‘’There’s a paradox in the timeline—‘’Canon. ‘’Modern writers don’t know—‘’ Still canon.#You don’t have to like it but it’s canon. If you throw out or change any details?
