The Ballad of Miles Peter Kane

I’m writing this because 80% of the speculation in the AM/TLSP/MK fandom is about Alex – ‘he shags groupies, he’s gay, he’s bi, he’s autistic, he’s an arrogant bastard’....the list is endless. Because he is our master of deception and subterfuge, he opens himself up to speculation.

But on the surface Miles is so different. Happy, smiley, seemingly open Miles, sharing his home and his dog and his family on social media. Chatting away in interviews like a little bird. People think he has it together.

But dig a little deeper and read between the lines, and I get a completely different picture of Miles from the Rascal of 2008 to our One Man Band of 2024.

I have been watching some early interviews with Miles recently and he shoehorns the topic of women and girls into them far more often than Alex ever has. A simple question about if he likes meat is met with a ‘not in a gay way’. At a time when Alex was being photographed looking like Alexa’s little brother or Arielle’s hot gay pal, Miles was being ‘papped’ with his tongue down the throat of the latest hot model or Page Three Girl. There was a sexy girl in every video. And before you say it, yes there were in AM’s videos, but find me one where Alex interacts with them. There was also Miles’ relationship with Suki Waterhouse which I find hard to believe wasn’t real, unless he is far better than Alex at faking a relationship.

Controversial as this may be, but in my opinion, early videos of baby Al flirting openly with Andy, and pressing himself up against Miles, and a bit later on, even AM Alex flirting with that hunky male interviewer, does not point to someone battling too much with their inner homophobia. I think Alex – as ever – has two personalities. The Alex known to the inner circle is out and has been for many years. But Mr Schwartz - the public facing Alex, struggles with his sexuality and the effect it will have on his career and that of his three ‘brothers’.

But read between the lines of their lyrics from the AM/Don’t Forget Who You Are era. AM is filled with longing, of someone who doesn’t know where they stand with this secret - keeping lover who treats them differently at night than during the day. DFWYA is still full of ‘she’ and ‘her’ songs, although ironically the lyrics to Out of Control are so Milex coded it’s funny. I will always maintain Give Up is about Alex (I think ‘stand so tall’ is a figure of speech rather than literally lol) lyrics like ‘you’re pretty good looking but I’m looking for a way out’ and ‘stop tainting my soul’ scream Alex. Don’t forget both albums will have been written around the same time, so I am guessing that they were going through the conflict of Miles not knowing what to do, and him somehow blaming Alex for his confusion, but at the same time unable to keep away from him.

So we reach 2015 and the recording of EYCTE. Something happens. Once on stage and once in an interview, Alex talks about them falling in love whist recording the album. Traditionalists will choose to think he means with their ‘girlfriends’ at the time, but once on tour it is obvious there has been a change in the dynamics. Alex is coquettish and sexy, but his stage personas have all been a variation on this since Humbug, but Miles is different. Miles can’t keep his hands off Alex, Miles follows Alex around the stage like a lovesick puppy. In interviews gone are the playful lusty looks of TAOTU era, instead Miles gazes at Alex like he’s the most beautiful and wondrous thing he’s ever seen.

I think Miles had finally seen the light and realised he was in love with his best mate/casual fuck buddy. He could no longer go on treating Alex like some dirty little secret, and he could no longer deny his sexuality.

What happened afterwards? Who knows, I guess they’re the only ones who know the full truth. But they both came out of EYCTE depressed (the two interviews recently posted on here show this), but Miles admitted to having a mental breakdown, and all I can do is speculate why I think this happened. Imagine being a young man fighting inner demons about your sexuality, you finally realise you’re in love with your best friend and promises are made (see Someone to Rely On and Wrong Side of Life) and he leaves you to go off to France to record an album and keep up his ‘relationship’ with his girlfriend. You have laid yourself on the line and taken a huge step for him and he's gone.

In Alex’s defence, he probably had years of Miles letting him down and also the responsibility of AM etc, but this isn’t about Alex.

But time is a great healer and I think Miles came out of the whole period a different person. By Change the Show, we lose the ‘she’ pronouns (just one ‘girl’, and Suzie and Caroline) and sexy girls in videos. Gone are the models and page three girls. There is a brief ‘romance’ with Nadya Duke, but that is it.

So we come to One Man Band. Apart from one ridiculous tongue in cheek podcast with his friend James Buckley, where he goes on about women (incidentally just before the Ireland gigs with AM), Miles has changed. In early interviews, his childhood heroes are Lennon and Oasis…no mention of Baggio. With One Man Band we suddenly get Baggio and in interviews he talks of how eight year old Miles thought Baggio and the Italian football team were sexy. Old Miles would have followed that up with something like ‘the sort of sexy that pulled birds’, but there was nothing like that, instead he was admitting that part of his sexual awakening was admiring Italian men.

The video for The Wonder had a sexy woman, his friend Didem, but somehow the dynamic felt different, the general vibe was more two mates mucking about.

His stage persona is more ‘fruity’, he is using ‘she’ pronouns but to address himself, and whilst he isn’t ‘out’ - he may never come out publicly, it is entirely his choice - there is definitely a change in Miles, he seems more settled and happy in his own skin. He said he had therapy during the bad period and hopefully that helped. Interestingly he has posted songs about difficult relationships with fathers, and without casting aspersions on Miles’ dad, I wonder if part of his earlier issues were about him trying to please him. Liverpool has quite a macho culture – especially 20-30 years ago. Let’s not forget Miles liked and commented on that beautiful poem about men who know they are gay even when they are children. Maybe it resonated….

Miles story is a fascinating one, a look at a young man fighting his inner demons to get to a point where he knows his true self. I always think Troubled Son is the counter to Body Paint. But Troubled Son is about Miles coming to terms with who he is and accepting his own faults, Body Paint is Alex keeping on his costume, which he doesn’t look like taking off any time soon. Hopefully private Alex is as happy as Miles, and it’s just that public face that looks as though their world is ending.

Scarlet

The first name "Samantha" was provided by me specially to give her a proper identity. Before that, she was only going to be called through her respective codename, but I thought of making it look more unique by finally giving her a full name!

The codename "Scarlet" is mainly attached to her past. Her mother had often lovingly nicknamed her as "Scarlet", along with her friends, and Johnny himself. So, keeping that codename makes her feel beloved since it holds a lot of deep memories within her.

"Wright" basically means the one who makes or builds things, especially from wood. They're craftsmen, artisans, and skilled workers!

Katya

"Katya" means "something pure, perfect", it can also be depicted as "Yekaterina", "Katyusha", or "Katen'ka"

"Viktornovna" is derived from her father's name, Viktor. In females, the patronymic name in the end becomes -ovna, or -evna. For males, it's -vich, or -ov.

"Kovalevskaya" is derived from "Kovalevsky", which is an old Slavic word "kowal" which means "a blacksmith".

Tech Friday!!

Since retiring in early 2022 I’ve been using an old all-in-one desktop PC and borrowing Beth’s laptop. The all-in-one was starting to struggle and couldn’t be upgraded to Windows 11. And even though my new consulting employer will provide a laptop, I wanted one of my own. At my last consulting gig I was provided a wide screen curved monitor and now I’m spoiled and need one at home. I bought an HP 34” curved monitor to go with an HP Spectre laptop and a dock. It took some tweaking but I’m happy with the set up.

You may be wondering why the 2nd picture has two Alexa devices side by side. I like home automation and it is frustrating that Alexa routines won’t automatically open, unlock or disarm anything without asking for voice response with a numerical pin. That’s inconvenient, especially when you’re accompanied by friends or guests.

You can, however place two devices in a discreet part of your home and program the routine to prompt another Alexa device to respond with the code. The wake word for the other device has to be changed from “Alexa”; I changed the wake word to “Echo”. Interestingly, the Echo wouldn’t respond to a command from Alexa’s female voice. I had to change it so the request for the unlock code was made in a male voice. This isn’t a huge hack or anything but it is nice that when we pull into the garage, we just say our arrival phrase and Alexa, turns on the house lights, unlocks the door and disarms the alarm.

I'm reading a lot of things about Hidge's sexuality canon wise. So taking account on what Nick and Matt Lang said (as much as I remember it without rewatching the video proof lol) my argument on why the canon sexuality of Prof. Henry Hidgens is that he is bisexual and Objectumsexual.

Well I think canon wise he is not polyamorous. I can accept that (i have no problem with him being poly canon wise. I am not anti-poly, just faithful with canon) but I remember Nick Lang or even Matt did not specify it. They said, within along the lines/paraphrasing: Henry loves his six boy friends, they are special to him, but Chad IS the apple of his eye. The last sentence they meant romantically.

So why bisexual and not gay? To make it clear, I have no problem with him being gay. I'm willing to be corrected. But since I'm arguing that he's bisexual, well let me start. Of course we haven't seen Hidge talk about or falling in love with specific women characters in the saga so far, however he did say in TGWDLM " Alexa, I love you like every woman flesh and bone", so there ya go. If he can find a woman that is subordinate to him like Alexa and Siri, then he can have a relationship with a woman. Come to think of it, i think he loves Chad the most because I hypothesize Chad always goes along with his plans/ideas. Yes I believe if I were to analyze his relationship personality, he wants to be the dominant in the relationship. He's very controlling and spirals when he doesn't get his way. Which why this is a good segway to...

And with the mention of two famous AI virtual assistants, I think it's enough to say that Hidge has objectophilia. More so in NMT episode Time Bastard where he shared his sexual rendezvous with either one of them to Ted and implied how he did it (some imagination and a little elbow grease or any lube lol). Not to mention that he talks to Alexa and Siri like they're humans. Fun fact, I read somewhere that people who have this sexual orientation cant handle keeping a relationship with another human because they're too controlling hence having a relationship with an object is easier because it has no thoughts, no opinions to consider. Also, this can also be a result of a trauma. Him losing his friends, especially Chad, during a lightning strike attack did not just lead him to isolation and practicing survival instincts, but also drove him to loving objects instead cause at least they won't experience terrible human deaths. Also further explanation:  ur friends can be ur life partners (hence there are old people living with friends in their twilight years) and some people like calling their friends as boyfriends or girlfriends. Hidge is just comfortable with his sexuality and closeness with his friends that he can call his male friends as his boyfriends. And according to the song "it takes balls": Steve was a priest, Leighton was in a relationship with a person named Gary, and Greg was seeing/dating Steve's mom. Plus all of the boys, sans Chad and Henry, were attracted to females while at college based on their locker room talk acted by the Workin Girls cast.

I'm not like Unhidge Hidge, so tell me about ur thoughts/opinions/rebuttals as long as ur taking account of what I wrote here. Especially proof from the Langs with ur rebuttal. Of course in head canon or fan fic world, anything is free reins and you can experiment with Hidge's sexuality there. Just make sure to specify if it's canon or head canon so to avoid confusion and arguments.

I have the urge to check my HHP Working Boys screen recordings where Nick and Matt discussed Henry's relationship with the boys if it's poly or not. Update 2: Okay I watched it and Nick just says that Chad is his favorite so get out of that as you wish. But since the boys did their locker room talk about girls without Henry and Chad, I don't think the boys were making out with each other unless maybe just Henry and Chad if it's not unreciprocated from Henry's side.

I can understand if most fans think Henry is gay and not bi since Nick and Matt have not given more concrete proof of his attraction to human females. My only arguments with him being bi is that he loves and has done sexual acts with Alexa and Siri, AI virtual assistants with female names and voices. (NMT episode: Time Bastard).

Problematic Millionaire/Billionaire/CEO/Tycoon Romance Male Leads Who Make Hades (Lore Olympus) Look Like Perfection Incarnate!

I ranked these guys differently here, color-wise, than I did on a certain list of mine.

The billionaire MMC (male main character) is a problematic romance hero known for generally being an asshole to his lover — Hades stands as THE ultimate exception to that rule — so I chose characters that stand out from the others regarding their douchebaggery towards the FMCs.

Cesare Falcone and his lover — The manga adaptation left out a lot of stuff, but it sure visually captured his jerkass energy perfectly. Don't let his orange status 🟠 fool you into thinking he's less of a cruel hero. This dude, not even a dark romance MMC, told his wife he would kill her if she cheated on him. Maybe he was bluffing, but still... yikes.

Billionaires are the dukes of contemporary romance, and vice versa (historical romance).

All of these guys got a HEA.

KYLO and the roomie

Rent has risen in price this past year, and KYLO can barely keep up. In desperate measures to keep him from going insane he goes online asking if anyone would like to room with him.

He lives in a three bedroom apartment, two of the rooms is a computer room the other his bedroom and lastly the guest room that's never been used.

He doesn't often have anybody stay the night, but in case he has a friend or two stay the night he'd always have an air mattress on hand.

After posting online he goes around to clean up a little, if someone does want to become a roommate it's best if he does a little TLC.

He ties his hair up in a high ponytail, as well as rolling up his sleeves, and asking his Alexa to play a song from his playlist. Now he got to work; starting with sweeping the floors, vacuuming, then he mops, and after that's done he checks his phone to find it's been four hours since he's started. He also sees that he has a notification from his post he made earlier.

He lets his sleeves roll back down tired of constantly rolling them back up, and letting his pony tail loosen up a bit. He rushes to his computer room to check out the notification. Logging back onto his computer he sees he's gotten a dm and he clicks on it.

'Hi hello, my name is m/n I've seen that you were looking for a roommate and I would be happy rooming with you! I've also seen that the area you stay at is a lot closer to my job so this would benefit me a lot as well! If the offer isn't taken by the time I've sent this then I would love to be able to discuss how much is rent, chores, rules, and ECT. Please reach back to me if you can!'

KYLO let out a little 'heh' as he read what you said, he thought it was funny how you basically said hello twice. He quickly reached back out saying that the offer was still up, and that you two could definitely talk about rent tomorrow at a reasonable time. Phrack Marriage Scenario that’s been floating around in my head the past couple days:

Disclaimer: I’m not sure if my working knowledge on transfer of peerage is at all correct, so this could be entirely stupid, but just hang with me.

Okay. So. The scenario - The Baron of Richmond shuffles off this mortal coil (awwww so sad, tears on our collective pillow). As his only surviving child, Phryne inherits the title, making her Lady Fisher. And it would also make any man she married a Lord, giving him access to the House of Lords in parliament**. Which is an enticing level of influence and power - e.g. why continue to search for ways around the law when you can simply change the law instead (obviously it wouldn’t be that simple, but hopefully you get what I mean)?

(**Technically, the seat in the House of Lords should be Phryne’s right, but ya know… misogyny of the early 1900s and all that. Apparently, the first woman to take seat in the House of Lords was a baroness in 1958.)

Now… since she’s a widow, she has free reign to marry whom ever she wants… and I reckon she’d want someone she could trust to carry out her political wishes, on her behalf, in the exclusively male parliament. I’m not saying that someone would/should be Jack, but also yes I am. Because what an entertaining romp it would be to get phrack marriage that doesn’t “tie Phryne down” or “compromise her independence,” but in fact - grants her more power to change the world than she currently has?

We’d also get to witness the uncomfortable, yet surely comedic journey of Jack reluctantly navigating through the uptight, condescending crowds of British nobility. And, after enough harassment about him being unworthy ‘cause he’s from the “gutter of the realms” Australia, Jack puts on his dom!suit and makes them all his bitches by using his seat to advocate for Australian autonomy from Britain. Like, “If we’re such a trash realm, you won’t mind losing all the capital and resources of the land you loathe, right mates? Oh, what’s that? The King is upset about the inevitable and now imminent dissolution of the commonwealth? … Aw, that’s so sad, Alexa play ‘Cry Me a River’ by Justin Timberlake.”

In the mean time, Lord and Lady Robinson make frequent journeys between the two countries, scheming together, planning their world domination (see: liberation), and solving a murder or two along the way in all their power couple glory. And maybe* they have a lot of sex, too. (*definitely)
