Twisted Neverland
Departure: Ace Trappola, Deuce Spade
Deuce was running late. The bright moon overhead seemed to be mocking his tardiness. For once in his life, he wanted things to go right, for a day just to be good. Unfortunately, today couldnât have been worse.
It all started when he overslept this morning. His mom came and woke him up, but he fell back asleep. He stayed out late the night before trying to fix up his bike that he wrecked last week, so he was exhausted. His mom had just assumed he was getting ready, so she didnât bother checking on him till he was supposed to get on the bus. Deuce panicked and started getting ready in record time. He already had nine tardies for the school year, one more and heâd get suspended again.
Out of frustration, Deuce yelled at his mom that she should have woken him up. He yelled at her. She didnât deserve that. Deuce knew that. She deserved so much better. She worked two jobs in order to provide for Deuce and herself after dad left them. During the day when Deuce was in school, she worked full-time at the local car garage and then she worked part-time in the evenings as a delivery driver for White Rabbit Deliveries. She worked hard to provide a good life for herself and Deuce, and here he was just screwing it up like usual. He wanted to do better, be better, but every time he tried to stick to the right path, he just screwed it up. Just like this morning. What good kid yells at his own mother? It was his fault that he stayed out. It was his fault that he fell back asleep. It was his fault that he was a bad kid.
His mom, his gracious and forgiving mom, took it in stride and simply handed him his book bag and a lunch she packed herself. She told him to have a great birthday and that when he came home, she would have something for him.
Oh yeah. To top it all off, today was his birthday.
Deuce grabbed his book bag and lunch, and ran to the front door. Just like every other morning, Deuceâs mom told him to promise to do his best, and Deuce hurriedly replied that he promised. A promise he broke each and every day.
Deuce ended up being late to school by three minutes. He tried to plead with the principal, but he refused, citing each day that Deuce was late this school year. He said that if Deuce really cared about his attendance, he wouldnât already have nine tardies. The principal then grabbed the phone and began to dial his motherâs number to tell her that starting tomorrow he would be suspended for the rest of the week.
Deuce didnât know what else to do, so he left. He grabbed his book bag and ran right out of the office. He didnât want to hear the principal talk with his mom. He didnât want to feel the shame and guilt overwhelm him when hearing his momâs shock. He couldnât bear it.
So he ran out of the school and into the nearest alleyway. He took turn after turn to make sure to lose anyone who came after him. Once he himself wasnât sure where he ended up, he slid down the wall and sat on the ground. He brought up his knees to his chest and rested his head on his knees.
Deuce didnât know when he started crying, but he knew he cried for quite awhile. It started out quiet, but then his sobs grew louder as the dayâs events washed over him. Why couldnât things go right for once? Why couldnât he get his act together? Why couldnât he be a good kid? He asked himself these questions over and over, but he couldnât come up with an answer for any of them.
As his thoughts began to overwhelm him, Deuce cried louder and louder. Eventually, his cries drew the attention of others.
âLook at what we have here boys. A little baby who canât find his way home.â
A hand grabs Deuceâs hair and yanks his head up. Deuce immediately registers that itâs some member of the Black Bunnies gang, recognizable by the gray letterman jacket with a black rabbit patch on it.
Once the guy gets a look at Deuceâs face, he calls out, âHey, wait a minute. Isnât he the Cauldron Duke?â
Three more members of the Black Bunnies emerge from the shadows of the alleyway. Deuce feels his stomach drop. He shouldâve just run back home.
One guy with short, blonde hair says, âIt really is! Whatâs he doing out here crying?â
Another guy with long, black hair retorts, âMaybe heâs not all what the rumors say he is. Maybe heâs nothing more than a snot nosed brat.â
The one holding Deuceâs hair, a guy with pink hair, asks, âGot anything to say for yourself, Cauldron Duke?â
Deuce steels his nerves and doesnât respond at all. He narrows his gaze, trying to look somewhat intimidating. He knows it isnât successful when he sees a frown cross the guyâs face in front of him.
âYou think youâre above us? Answer me when Iâm talking to you!â
Suddenly, Deuce is sent reeling backwards. A punch sends him flying into the brick wall behind him. He falls to the ground and tries to catch his breath.
The pink haired guy grabs Deuceâs face again and yanks it up so that Deuce is looking him in the eyes.
âDoes the baby not know how to talk?â
The guy punches Deuce in the chest with his free hand while his lackeys walk up behind him.
âNeed someone to hold your hand?â
This time a kick to the gut from the lackey with blonde hair.
âCome on boys! Donât let me hog all the fun!â
Deuce just wants it all to stop.
âNo way this is the Cauldron Duke!â
He wishes for it to end.
âWish you had some friends, donât you!â
He wants someone to come flying to his rescue, but no one does. No one ever does.
âLetâs get him good! Heâs all alone now!â
Heâs always been alone.
âI bet you want your mommy!â
Mom. Heâs always had her. If no one else, heâs had her. Sheâs waiting for him. He needs to get back to her.
âHow about one more boys-â
The pink haired leader gets sent flying into the nearby garbage dump. The other three lackeys stare dumbfounded at Deuce who managed such a feat with a single punch.
Deuce shakily rises to his feet and wipes the blood slowly dripping down the corner of his cheek. Heâs going home. Heâs not going to let anyone stop him.
Deuce doesnât like to fight, he knows that itâs wrong and that his mom would be disappointed in him, but he does like the feeling. He lets his mind shut down, letting his body go on autopilot. All those thoughts weighing him down just disappear when he prepares to fight. Step. Punch. Step. Duck. Repeat.
He takes care of the lackeys quickly. They end up turning tail and leaving before the fighting gets too intense. After the last one runs out the alleyway, Deuce lets out a breath that he didnât even realize he was holding in. He begins to assess himself, seeing what damage was done. Other than some nasty bruises, he seems to be ok. A bit sore, but ok.
Deuce stretches his arms above his head, closes his eyes, and takes a deep breath. As he releases his breath, he opens his eyes and takes in the scarlet sky thatâs beginning to give way to a deep blue with stars just dancing on its edges.
Wait. Stars?
Deuce curses to himself and mutters, âIâm so late! Mom said she had something she wanted to show me after school. But those guys jumped me and-â
Deuce immediately takes off running in what he believes to be the direction of his home. How did it get so late so quickly!? He was supposed to be home by now.
The day just continues to get worse and worse. As Deuce didnât pay much attention when he ran out his school earlier, he got lost trying to find his way back home. By the time Deuce finally manages to get back home, the sky is full of stars while he is out of breath. He quietly approaches the door and pulls out his key. He tries to think of something to say to his mom, but his mind is empty. What could he possibly say to her at this point? His mom is probably already asleep anyway, so he can just ask her about whatever she wanted to show him tomorrow morning. It might be better if he just slips into his bedroom and goes straight to bed, putting this awful day behind him as quickly as possible.
As Deuce makes up his mind, he turns the key and quietly steps inside, making sure to lock the door behind him. He tiptoes towards the kitchen to put his book bag away, but he pauses when he notices that a light is on down the hallway. Itâs the light in his momâs room. Whyâs his mom still awake at this hour? She usually goes to bed early during the week because she has to get up to get ready for work. Deuce quietly walks down the hallway and listens to see if he can hear if his momâs still up. Maybe she accidentally fell asleep with the light on? If he doesnât hear anything, heâll just quickly open the door to shut the lights off.
As he reaches the door, he begins to hear noise from inside the room. Crying. Itâs muffled, but itâs definitely the sound of his mother crying. Did something happen at work? Did someone mess with his mom? While Deuce debates entering the room or slipping away and pretending he never heard anything, he hears his mom speak.
âMom, I just donât know what to do. The principal called and said Deuce skipped school again.â
Oh. Itâs because of him.
âI just donât know what to do! I love him so much, but it must not be enough if heâs doing all this.â
Heâs screwed up again.
âMaybe I canât do this on my ownâŠmaybe Deuce needs a real family. I just want him to be happy, mom, but he keeps getting into trouble.â
Deuce bites his lip and balls his hands into fists.
âAm I doing something wrong? Am I not a good mother?â
He turns on his heel and walks towards the kitchen.
His thoughts fly as he makes his way back down the hall.
âNo. MomâŠshe feels like this? IâmâŠIâm a terrible son, making her go through all of this.â
Deuce grabs the handle and quietly turns it as a tear slides down his face.
âSheâs the one who deserves better! Sheâd be better off without me screwing up her life! I should just-â
The state of kitchen sends his racing thoughts crashing into an abrupt halt. The kitchen is decorated in streamers and banners of varying shades of blue. Balloons sit in each corner of the room along with some shiny tinsel. In the center of the room sits a cake topped with sixteen unlit candles. A banner boldly declares in a bright and cheery font, âHappy Birthday Deuce!â
Thatâs right. Todayâs his birthday. How could he have forgotten?
This is what his mom wanted to show him. What she had planned. She went through all this trouble for him, yet all he does for her is cause trouble. Why? Why would she go to such lengths for him? He only ever brings her grief and she did something so kind for him.
Deuce feels his heart drop. He wishes he could simply disappear.
He drops his bag by the closet before walking towards the cake in the center of the kitchen. Deuce takes small steps, making sure that his footsteps are muffled. He peers at the cake and reads the words written in blue icing on the cake, âHappy 16th Birthday, Deuce!â Deuce bites his lip while grabbing one of the candles from on top of the cake. He turns on his heel and quickly speeds out of the kitchen towards the stairs. He tries to be as silent as possible, but heâs not sure how much noise heâs made. His heart seems to be knocking loudly on his chest. Heâs convinced his mom can hear his guilt.
Deuce closes his bedroom door and cries out, âI wish I could be a son Mom could be proud of!â
âItâs not too late. You could still become a fine son.â
Deuceâs head whips up at the sound of another voice in his room. A boy stands in front of his window that he was positive was closed before he went to school this morning. The boy is small, Deuce wouldâve mistaken him for a middle schooler based on his looks; however, his voice was cold and dignified, making Deuce think he was actually older than he appeared. The boy had red hair hidden beneath a red pirate hat with a large black feather in it. The hat matched the rest of the boyâs ensemble of a bright, long red jacket with black and gold accents.
Deuce knew he should immediately start throwing fists at this person who broke into his room. He had no clue who this person was, or what he might do. Even though his body was ready to move forward and start swinging, Deuceâs mind was exhausted from the dayâs events. He didnât think he had it in him to do much more than lay on the floor and cry.
Not to mention, the boy had said something that echoed in Deuceâs mind. He said that Deuce could still become, âa fine son.â The way the boy said it sounded like he was reciting a fact. That he knew Deuce could become good. Deuce had never met this person before and yet they sounded like they knew him in such a familiar way. It was strange. His body wanted to fight. His mind wanted to hear more. For once, he went with his head.
Deuce declares to the stranger, âTell me how!â
The red headed boy scoffs and says, âNot even going to ask my name, or how I arrived here? You are quite reckless. I shall take you aboard my vessel, the Queenâs Court, where I will turn you from a fickle youth into a fine gentleman worthy of everyoneâs praise.â
The boy turns towards the window and adds, âThat is, if youâre willing to change.â
Change. Thatâs all Deuce has wanted to do, but it didnât seem possible. At least, not on his own. When he tried to change, he just screwed it up. Trouble found him in different ways and Deuce ended up right back where he started. It was like he was stuck on an endless loop, all alone wallowing in his guilt. Maybe what he needed was the help of someone else. An outsider. A friend.
Deuce balls his hands into fists and says, âIâll do anything!â
The boy turns back with a smile on his face as he responds, âThen welcome aboard, Deuce Spade. Come along, we depart now.â
The boy begins walking back towards the window and Deuce quickly says, âWait! Donât I need to pack? I-â
The boy cuts him off, âEverything you need will be on board.â
Deuce takes a step to follow the boy, but he hesitates before making another move. He turns back towards his bedroom door. Could he really just leave?
âYour mother will be fine without you. She wonât even know youâre gone.â
Deuce whips his head back towards the window and says, âYou promise?â
Deuce isnât sure if he imagined it, but it seemed like sadness briefly appeared in the red headed boyâs eyes. Deuce couldnât be sure though because as quickly as he saw it, it disappeared and was replaced with a determined gaze.
âOf course. I promise on my name Riddle Rosehearts.â
Deuce takes one last glance at the door and raises his fist. He opens it revealing the candle he took from his birthday cake in the kitchen. He would become someone his mom could be proud of. Someone she could brag about to all the neighbors. No longer would she have to apologize on his behalf. He would become someone worthy of her love.
He quickly slips the candle into his pocket and turns to follow Riddle. Then he realizes heâs not sure where heâs following Riddle to besides his window. Would they leave by climbing out and leaping into the alleyway below?
Just as his mind begins to think of other places Riddle might be leading him towards, he notices what lurks just outside his window. A large ship has laid down a plank leading up to his window. Deuce blinks several times before finally believing his eyes. Thereâs a floating ship right outside his house. A ship that apparently can turn him into a good kid according to Riddle. What a strange day itâs been.
Deuce quietly follows Riddle onto the ship where people are milling about pulling on various ropes and moving crates around the ship. Everyone seems to know their task and is getting it done without a moment to waste. He notices that some of the boys begin to whisper to one another after realizing Riddle has come onboard the ship. Their whispering ends just as quickly as it began, the boys quickly resume their work with even more vigor in their steps. Riddle walks up to a boy with orange hair who is carrying a box with various pieces of clothes inside.
The orange haired boy smiles and says, âItâs totes good to see you again, Captain! You sure know how to get the job done quickly!â
Riddle pays no mind to the boyâs praise and says, âCater, would you please take Deuce to the sleeping quarters?â
Cater winks and retorts, âDo you even have to ask? Cay-Cay would be more than happy to show the way-way!â
Deuce inwardly cringes at Caterâs wordplay, but heâs probably just trying to make Deuce feel more at ease. After all, Cater understands everything thatâs going on onboard this ship, while Deuce is completely in the dark.
Riddle pays Caterâs silliness no mind and says, âThank you. Iâll be off to make sure the preparations are complete for our return to Neverland.â
Riddle turns to Deuce and continues, âIâll leave you in Caterâs capable hands. If you have any questions, Iâm sure he will be able to fill you in. Iâll see you in the morning, Deuce.â
With a swish of his red jacket, Riddle makes his way up a flight of stairs towards some unknown part of the ship. Deuce watches Riddle until he fades from view before taking in Cater. Cater has orange hair that is partially clipped back with some pieces falling down to frame his face. Underneath one of his green eyes, Cater has a red diamond painted on. His outfit consists of the same outfit as the other boys milling about, a simple blue striped shirt with jeans that are covered in a variety of patches. One accessory sets Cater apart from the other boys and that would be a camera attached to a strap hanging around Caterâs neck.
Deuce isnât sure what to say or do, but luckily Cater quickly begins to strike up conversation saying, âWelcome aboard Deucey! My name is Cater Diamond, expert coordinator on board the Queenâs Court. Any questions I can go ahead and answer for you?â
Deuce has a million questions sitting on the top of his tongue. What is this place? Whatâs Neverland? Why is Cater here? How was Deuce chosen for this experience? How was the ship floating? Why was everyone acting so calm? Did his mom hate him? Was he making the right choice by being here? Despite all these questions, Deuce canât bring himself to ask a single one. Heâs tired. Heâs had a long day. If he received any answer to any of his many questions, heâd probably end up forgetting it right away. That, or itâd probably be the last straw and Deuce would just collapse into a sobbing mess.
Cater seems to notice Deuceâs overwhelmed state and gives a small smile as he says, âIâm sure this is a lot for you to take in, so how about we head on down to barracks so you can go ahead and crash?â
Deuce returns the gesture with a smile of his own and says, âYes, please.â
âRight this way.â
They head through a nearby door and down a flight of stairs. Deuce canât help but wonder what heâs gotten himself into. Perhaps this is the first step in his journey to become a better son; however, itâs just as likely this could be him sealing his fate into some crazy adventure. Regardless, Deuce felt a strange sense of peace. No matter what lay ahead of him, he knew that he would not be the same person as he was at the start. Change was all around him and he was sure that it was bound to become a part of him. All he needed to do was continue to walk forward on this new path he embarked upon.

TWST Story Idea (16)
It happened in an instant.
Yuu woke up in a coffin, gasping in desperation and fear. The darkness swallowed him whole, rendering him unable to see.
Escaping that coffin when it was set ablaze by a cat-like monster marked the first adventure for Yuu.
Yuu's first reaction to this new world was like a child setting his gaze upon a brightly lit Christmas tree, eyes sparkling with bright lights and stars.
It was wonderful, colorful, and out of this world. It was like a dream.
His limbs trembled when he stepped into the new world, hands lifted before his eyes as though to question if everything was real.
And it was real. What Yuu felt and experienced was enough to tell that it's all real, and that was enough for him for wanting to stay even though it was just an abandoned ramshackle dorm, far from the luxury he had ever known.
He felt alive as magic burst like fireworks and danced to a rhythm his new friends orchestrated. Even if Yuu was magicless, he was happy all the same.
While it's true that his new life was sometimes faced with foes, obstacles, and antics caused by his friends, he didn't mind it at all. This is what he thought normal life should be like.
The pain that was inflicted on him, he cherished those as well. Perhaps it's strange to keep them as a reminder for most people, but for Yuu, it's not.
Maybe it's borderline crazy or just some weird coping mechanism.
Even if at some points he was asked by his friends about it, Yuu, whose being had been exposed as an anomaly for being magicless and from another world, could only smile.
Let it be his only secret.
Call him a weirdo, call him any other unusual names so hurtful and all Yuu could do is laugh like it was the funniest thing in the world.
And Grim, beloved Grim. Naughty and spoiled, he truly cherished his furry companion. The warmth he emitted and the annoying yet endearing personality.
It can be said that he made Yuu's life even better than before.
What Yuu experienced here was something that he yearned for but could never say out loud. It's not that he didn't have the freedom to do so. It was just the weight of his words was so burdensome.
He let his same wish go out with a puff to every birthday candle snuffed, watched as his hope grew and perished and began anew. The small piece of cake in his mouth tasted bland every year he forced himself to eat.
It was only now that his wish had been heard and granted and he wanted to stay here for eternity where he could live without being scared and weak.
He wanted to have fun every day. He wanted to laugh and eat food that had never been so delicious in his whole life before. He wanted to wake up in his home with Grim snuggling by his side and greet his friends with smiles without worry.
He wanted to do what he couldn't do, to try everything even if he failed miserably, to run and to dance, to explore and feel and wear the most luxurious clothes without the Swords of Damocles dropping over his head at any moment.
He wanted to cry but he had already cried enough, he wanted to smile twice as much without faking it.
He stayed and stayed⊠. . . âŠand stayed.
Until what happened during Idia's overblot and Malleus's shook his peaceful life. The seed that was left behind without any water and light burst open from its coat. The plants branched out at the tragedies unfolding before his eyes, poking deep inside his head and heart where he kept the darkness sealed.
It touched the parts Yuu wanted to hide. The dream he lived in wavered and the truth bared its fangs, glinting threateningly.
Yuu began to miss home.
He missed his family who was always by his side, through sorrow and pain, without fail. Even if he knew that they were also a bit unwilling to see him some days.
But Yuu understood. He had no choice but to do so.
Yuu knew his wish was very selfish. Maybe that's why the Blue Fairy didn't grant it at all because Yuu was hesitant in his heart. Because granting that wish meant he had to let go, never to see them again.
It's true that he wished to be happy, never to worry about a thing.
But he also wished that they could be happy too. Together or withoutâŠ
For the first time in his new life, nothing felt the same anymore. Every adventure had Yuu thinking of his family.
It was not fun anymore.
And Yuu, who wished for things to stay like this forever, finally grew up. A person who used to fit with his peers like puzzles or like a Mad Hatter to Wonderland became Alice who wanted to go home.
He was out of place and out of time.
His heart kept yearning for unreachable things but the first wish was granted so what's wrong with keeping hope that another will be granted as well?
That's what Yuu did and he was back to square one.
Truly, he was a very pitiable person from the beginning.
He kept wishing and wished and wishedâ
âuntil Yuu woke up with a gasp, eyes blown wide open only to shut tightly when bright lights penetrated his vision.
A familiar scent of sterilization invaded his nose followed by a numb sensation in all limbs.
People in white coats surrounded his bed while holding certain devices that must have aided in bringing him back to life if the heart monitor that began to stabilize was any indication.
Although muddle-headed, his gaze managed to spot Grim, his beloved doll that was sewn terribly and barely resembled a cat. He was slumped next to the books filled with fairytales set on the desk next to his hospital bed.
Peter Pan, Alice in Wonderland, The Little Mermaid, Sleeping Beauty, and so onâŠ
Yuu knew long ago what it meant to wake up in that coffin.
He was well aware that Twisted Wonderland is just another name for Neverland and Neverland is just another word for the afterlife, where the lost boys go and never grow up until the end of time.
He was ready to accept it but in the endâŠ
He had made another wish and whispered it to the wishing star for the Blue Fairy to hear. A wish similar to Geppetto's yearning for a child, and in respond, Pinocchio, who was made of wood, was brought to life.
And he was indeed back to life. Back to the reality that he was reluctant to face every morning. Back to being a burden, stuck in the bed with white walls and limbs that couldn't move and senses that dulled over time as he festered in that place.
And it's all because Yuu didn't want to see his family cry over his coffin.
Yuu wanted to live even if it was painful. At least, until he's the only one left.
It was closest to a Happy Ending that Yuu could think of for a story like his, one that was truly fitting for a very selfish person.

My Top 10 Favorite Disney Heroines
Okay, so I've recently been having some issues with making videos and until I can sort it out, I can't really get any new clips for videos. So that makes it harder for me to be able to talk about certain topics I want to discuss on YouTube. However, I really want to talk about this so I decided to make a post here on Tumblr and when I have my technical issues sorted out, I'll post a YouTube version. However, since I'm not playing a character on Tumblr, that means that this won't include my signature merfolk language like "mermazing", "What the Tartarus", or "Dear sweet Poseidon." But you can expect that in my video when I sort out my technical issues.
Anyway, Iâve been criticizing Disney quite a bit lately and while thatâs been both fun and therapeutic, Iâm still a MASSIVE fan of Disney and would like to talk about something great from them. Since one of my more recent videos where I fixed Disneyâs adorkable problem has gotten popular, I figured I would talk about my top 10 favorite Disney heroines. Now lets establish the guidelines. I will only be talking about Disneyâs animated heroines, I will only be including characters from their animated movies so that means no TV show heroines like Kim Possible will be included, and I wonât be including characters from properties that Disney has bought. So that means that characters like Anastasia/Anya from Anastasia wonât be included, otherwise she would be in my top 3. Why? Because apart from putting them on DisneyPlus, Disney hasnât done anything to promote or profit off of these movies so itâs hard to consider them to be actual Disney movies. Itâs why I still donât consider movies like Anastasia to be Disney movies.
But other than that, I will have free range in what heroines make my list. So that means Pixar and Disney sequel heroines will be included. Keep in mind that this will be heavily bias, since this is obviously my opinion. So your favorites arenât necessarily my favorites and vise versa. Feel free to share your favorites and your thoughts on my list. Just donât be an asshole about it! Now without any further delay, lets dive right on it.
10. Lilo (Lilo and Stitch Franchise)
This is definitely one of the BEST child characters EVER and I donât just mean from Disney. Sheâs weird, eccentric, emotional, she gets into fights, sheâs sweet, charming, hilarious, clever, adventurous, sassy, and is just the most entertaining part of her movie. And considering the cast of characters in this franchise, thatâs saying A LOT. I love how she is into unconventional things that a girl her age typically isnât into. Itâs great rep for those of us who were the weird kid growing up. I mean, while I wasnât into the things she was into, being a boy who was, and still is, into traditionally feminine things made me a bit of an outcast growing up. Speaking of great rep, many have said that Lilo is autistic-coded, and while this hasnât been confirmed by either the original creators or Disney, I definitely can get behind it. Speaking as someone who is autistic, I definitely remember having similar behaviors to Lilo at that age. Not entirely because everyone with autism is different. Me and my wife (@keeloves) are both autistic but we have different sensory issues from each other and behaved differently from each other as kids but still saw ourselves in Lilo. My wife particularly sees herself in Lilo, due to being a brown autistic woman, which you donât get a lot of rep with in media.
But anyway, even if I didnât connect to Lilo because of my autism, I would still adore her, especially since I didnât learn I was autistic until I was a senior in high school and I still grew up loving Lilo. She has a creative way of doing things and it helps her stand out from a lot of heroines. Even heroines that are allegedly supposed to be more unique and break the mold like Mirabel from Encanto, canât hold a candle to Liloâs uniqueness. She has a style thatâs all her own and thatâs what makes her the perfect friend for Stitch, along with her immense generosity. Many have said Lilo means lost in Hawaiian but it can also mean generous one, which perfectly describes Lilo, due to her not only being lonely, but also her generous heart that managed to break through to Stitch. However, she has her limits and when pushed too far will come at you hard. I also relate to her loneliness as someone who has a hard time both making friends and maintaining friendships. She also has some of the best lines in the movie. Her personality continues to shine in the other forms of media she appears in and you canât have a Lilo and Stitch product without her because sheâs the heart of the franchise. Yes, Iâm aware of those stupid shows that donât have Lilo and I donât plan on watching them. They donât exist!
9. Jane (Return to Neverland) and Raya (Raya and the Last Dragon)
Hey, I never said that I wouldnât have ties on my list. Donât worry, this will be the only tie on this list. But to keep it organized, I will be talking about each of these characters individually before I talk about why I canât decide who I love more.
Starting with Jane, sheâs a character who isnât like most Disney heroines that are adventurous and dream of something more. Instead, sheâs a young girl who is living during wartime and is just trying to survive and do what she can to take care of her family. Sheâs the daughter of Wendy from the original Peter Pan but the two couldnât be more different. Whereas Wendy is a soft-spoken optimist who is full of childlike wonder, Jane is a practical pessimist with a sharp tongue that has become jaded due to her situation. This gives her more of an arc with her story compared to her mother, who is by no means a bad character. This helps her stand out among all the Disney sequel children who tend to share their parents personality traits. I love how they donât have Jane just be a stick in the mud for no reason. She has an understandable reason for why she is the way that she is and I think people tend to overlook that because sheâs so different from the heroines that weâre used to seeing from Disney. She had to grow up fast due to her experiences and she longs for her childhood days when she could believe in things like Peter Pan, Neverland, and pixie dust. However, she knows she has to be strong but she also needs to learn to regain some of her childhood wonder to help get her through the hard times. I honestly love her relationship with Peter Pan. Not only do they have amazing chemistry, but I love how unlike the female characters in the previous movies, who tend to fawn all over him and boost his ego, Jane deflates his ego, helps him mature a bit, and calls out his behavior. I love that even if sheâs not as snarky as characters like Megara that Jane is still snarky. But she also has a loving side and can be taken in by the beauty of Neverland when sheâs being shown Neverland. I honestly see a lot of myself in Jane and I loved seeing her growth as a character. Sheâs such a complex character and sheâs just a child. Sheâs the best thing to come out of the Peter Pan franchise. Yes, even better than Tinkerbell and I love how she calls out Tinkerbell as well.
Now we move on to Raya. For those of you who have seen my video about fixing Disneyâs adorkable problem, I mentioned that Raya is one of the few heroines of the revival era that doesnât have an adorkable personality, making her one of the more unique characters of the era. Unlike the bubbly, optimistic, quirky, and over-the-top heroines of the era, Raya is mature, snarky, pessimistic, cheeky, serious, and jaded. This is a character type that is not only unique for this era of Disney but is also a rare type of character from Disney in general. I love that sheâs not so optimistic and bubbly but can still be sweet and caring towards the ones she loves. Also, speaking as someone who has trust issues, I do relate to Raya and her journey with her distrust of people. Sheâs been hurt and when she trusted someone, the world ended up broken because of it. So her trying to save the world isnât about trying to help the world but to help her kingdom and bring her father back. On the one hand itâs selfless for her to do this for her people but on the other hand, sheâs selfish for not caring about the rest of the world but it makes sense because of her experiences and trust issues. I also love how sheâs a bit xenophobic but she slowly starts to let down her walls and trust others from different clans. I love characters that are relatable but also have a lesson they have to learn that helps them grow as people and Raya definitely fits the bill. I also love how unlike other heroines, who are great with kids and babies, she was very awkward when interacting with Noi at first. It shows that not everyone is great with kids and itâs something that can be learned. It also shows her growth with how sheâs able to let herself have connections with others. But sheâs also a badass of a fighter! The woman has moves! But I love that thereâs more to her than just her physical strength. I love her snarky and jaded personality and her journey. Plus, it's unique how she's a Disney Princess who wasn't wanting more out of life but rather wanted to the life she used to have back. Not to mention how she was the closed-minded one while her father was the open-minded one. I also love how became one of the few Disney protagonists that are willing to kill. Granted, she didnât do it but she was willing to kill Namaari during the climax of the movie. But sheâs ultimately a good person who comes to the realization that it wasnât right. Sheâs a phenomenal and underrated character from a phenomenal and underrated movie. Give us more characters like her and unique personalities, Disney.
As for why I canât decide between the two, itâs honestly because both of them are pretty similar. Both are snarky, jaded, practical, responsible, and act as the straight man in their respective movies amongst the more chaotic characters they come across. Not to mention, both long for the simpler days when their lives were actually happy but canât because of how their worlds have shaped them. They have great character growth and their way of thinking is technically wrong but you also understand why they are the way they are. So with how similar they are, I canât really decide who I love more so I decided not to. The two of them are truly amazing characters and actually break the mold of the heroines we tend to see from Disney and I adore them for that.
8. Tiana (The Princess and the Frog)
Just like Raya, sheâs one of the few heroines from the revival era that actually has a unique personality and in my opinion is the best heroine from this era. I love how sheâs practical and serious like Jane and Raya but itâs not because sheâs jaded. Itâs just because sheâs determined, ambitious, and a workaholic. But even without her being jaded, thereâs also an explanation for why she is the way she is. She has a dream that people say will be impossible for her to achieve due to her being a black woman of low status and a dream her father spent his whole life to achieve but never managed to see happen. Sheâs worked two jobs her entire life and has to work so much harder than everyone else just to prove herself. But I love that sheâs also a bit playful, caring, friendly, does want to have fun but just canât let herself, and is still creative. Almost There shows off the massive extent of her incredible imagination. I love how passionate she is about her dream and cooking. I adore how she never loses her passion and fire no matter what. I wish I had her drive in life to help make my dreams come true. She inspires me and it kills me that both she and her movie are so underrated when really they deserve to be getting the attention that Frozen got. I honestly canât wait to see what they do in the new Tiana series and I just pray that they donât disappoint me. Tiana is truly a great character and itâs a shame more people donât realize it. Even in her frog form, her personality shines through with her hard-working and witty personality. Not to mention, she has great growth as a character. Thereâs nothing wrong with pursuing a dream but you shouldnât let that keep you from also living your life. Sheâs confident in certain areas but sheâs also insecure as well. It helps make her a layered character and one of the most three-dimensional heroines from the revival era. Truly one of Disneyâs best leading ladies.
7. Pocahontas (Pocahontas)
First of all, yes, I know that the movie is problematic with its misrepresentation of the real Pocahontasâ life, showing both sides being in the wrong when in real life it was the white settlers who were the only ones in the wrong, and portraying Pocahontas in a romantic relationship with John Smith when she was a child when they met and the fact that he intended to colonize her people. However, I still ADORE the movie! Yes, it has its issues but it also has gorgeous animation, incredible songs, an amazing musical score, an engaging romance, likable and iconic characters, a great message thatâs definitely relevant today, and most importantly one of the best protagonists to ever come out of Disney.
Despite the issues Native Americans rightfully have with her movie, one thing, at least from my understanding, that they universally agree on is that in terms of personality, Pocahontas is spot on. So itâs really no wonder that Pocahontas herself is the best thing about the movie. I adore how sheâs curious, adventurous, mischievous, fun-loving, playful, and daring. However, sheâs also smart and mature. Sheâs undeniably a remarkable character that deserves nothing but praise. I love how she has a journey of finding her path but isnât sure what her path is. And I donât mean like she has to decide between two things but rather she has no idea what her second option is. Itâs something a lot of people can relate to who canât decide what they want to do with their life. So itâs interesting and unique to have a character who doesnât have a clear idea of what they want but still know they want more than the life that has been planned for them. When you think about it, Pocahontas is a pretty complex character in that sense and itâs one of the reasons I adore her along with her just being a fun and exciting character. One of my favorite scenes is just her going down the water rapids and instead of her just going down the safe path that she goes with the more exciting and fun path because itâs just who she is. I mean, when sheâs supposed to just come down to the river and get into the canoe with Nakoma, she could just run down there but instead, she chooses the more daring option of diving off. I wish I had the amount of guts she has. Sheâs such an exciting character and thereâs nothing dull about her. But she also stands up for what is right and will lay her own life down in order to do what needs to be done. Sheâs such an underrated character that itâs painful to think about. I adore Pocahontas and consider her to be one of the best characters Disney has ever created.
6. Anastasia Tremaine (Cinderella Sequels)
Originally starting off as a minor villain in the original Cinderella, Anastasia has since become one of the most complex and interesting characters to ever come out of Disney. Even people who hate the Disney sequels tend to agree that sheâs one of the best things to come out of these cash grabs. Sheâs so great that even the show Once Upon a Time in Wonderland continued the trend of making her a sympathetic character, with her being played flawlessly by Emma Rigby. But anyway, I adore how she still has some traits from her original appearance with her lacking elegance and grace, being a clutz, being a bit ditzy (But not dumb), and having a bit of a temper to her. It shows that just because someone becomes good, they donât lose all of their negative traits or become 100% different because thatâs not realistic. However, sheâs incredibly sympathetic with how sheâs a victim of her mother and sisterâs abuse but they donât erase the fact that she was abusive to Cinderella. As they say, hurt people hurt people. People are complex and itâs amazing to see someone who was abusive can also be the abuse victim without erasing past mistakes. But they donât have Cinderella judge her on the person she used to be but rather the person she is now. In A Twist in Time, we do see her show guilt towards Cinderella. Sheâs just someone who wanted to be loved and for someone to love her for who she is and not what her mother wanted her to be. Honestly, I wish Disney would explore more characters like Anastasia who arenât conventionally attractive and can also be complex and interesting. She kind of reminds me of Helga from Hey Arnold. And honestly, while Cinderella herself is still a great an admirable character, I prefer her step-sister. In fact, I might have a video analyzing what a great and complex character Anastasia is in the future (Or even post it here on Tumblr), so keep an eye out for that.
5. Megara (Hercules)
But her friends call her Meg, at least they would if she had any friends. Yeah, you know I had to quote that. Much like Anastasia, Meg didnât start off as a heroine but rather as a minion to the villain. I honestly went back and forth on whether or not I preferred Anastasia or Megara but I ultimately went with Megara because of her amazing snark. Being someone who is incredibly sarcastic, sassy, and snarky, I relate to characters who are like that as well. Sheâs honestly the sassiest Disney character ever. Literally no one can match her. Yes, there have been sassy and snarky characters from Disney, a good number of them are even on this list, but none meet the same level of sarcasm as her. Sheâs one of the most unique Disney heroines with her starting off as a bit of an antagonist, being way more snarky and jaded than Disneyâs heroines, and actually having a romantic history instead of just only being in a relationship with one person in your life and thatâs the one you end up marrying. A lot of people can relate to Meg and the fact that she gave and gave all her love to someone she was in a relationship with but that person just didnât love her as much and left her for someone else. She gave so much that she sold her soul to save her boyfriendâs life only for him to dump her for some random girl. No wonder she swore off love and became so jaded. But I love how she learns to love again and sees that itâs not bad to give yourself to someone so long as itâs the right person because just like how Megara gave up her life to save Hercules, he was willing to give his life to gets hers back. While Hercules is a great and engaging character, I find Megâs journey more engaging. Sheâs a great character and itâs no wonder that sheâs so beloved. Plus, sheâs a snarky queen!
4. Angel (Lady and the Tramp II: Scamp's Adventure)
Yeah, can you tell that I have a thing for characters that are snarky and jaded? She reminds me a lot of Megara, albeit, not as extreme due to being a kid and her movie having a different tone to Hercules. Itâs no wonder that I love her, especially when her movie is also one of my top 10 favorite Disney movies of all-time. I love how she is very sly and confident but isnât cocky or arrogant. However, despite her confidence, she also has her insecurities about her wanting a permanent family, since sheâs had five families that have taken her in but when she starts to think that this one is for keeps, they move, have a new baby, or have an allergy. So despite her desire for a family, sheâs jaded about the world and feels that she can only depend on herself and only sticks around the junkyard dogs because she has no other alternative. I love how even though sheâs a major factor in Scampâs development and is basically the glue that holds this movie together, Scamp helps with her development. He allows her to be brave enough to be vulnerable and to see that you donât have to only look out for yourself because he looks out for her. The two of them help each other to grow just like a true couple should. Despite their age, their love is to the same level as any adult relationship because they were friends first and then fell in love. Overall, Angel is a phenomenal character that is smart, sassy, jaded, confident, insecure, layered, brave, brutal, sly, caring, kind, tomboyish but still feminine, and just so freaking adorable.
3. Mulan (Mulan)
Yeah, you know that you canât have a top 10 best Disney heroines list without including her. I mean, what can I even say about her that hasnât already been said. Sheâs a perfect character journey. She starts off trying to be the perfect bride and daughter but she just keeps messing it up, has no idea who she is or what sheâs meant to be, breaks the rules and risks possible death for herself in order to save her father from certain death by taking his place in the army and disguising herself as a man, starts off terrible at training, gets better by embracing both sides of herself (The masculine and the feminine), and ultimately brings honor and saves the day by being herself. I love how, unlike the modern heroines we get nowadays, they take her journey seriously. Yes, thereâs still some comedy with her but they donât go over-the-top or make her clumsiness her most defining character trait. But her amazing actions arenât the only great thing about her. I love her realistic clumsiness, awkwardness, wit, cleverness, kindness, caring nature, bravery, courage, creativity, and that sheâs funny without having to be over-the-top. Sheâs far from perfect but thatâs why sheâs so great. She isnât strong for just being masculine but also because sheâs feminine. Sheâs flawed but she tries, sheâs insecure but that doesnât stop her, she wanted to save her father and bring honor but she also wanted to prove that she could do things right. And yet, they still made sure she was a likable character with a three-dimensional personality so that we actually care about her journey. I feel like modern Disney could learn a thing or two from Mulan. And the less said about that awful live-action remake or that horrendous direct-to-video sequel MulanII the better. Lets just focus on the original Disney Mulan and how she truly brought honor to us all.
2. Ariel (The Little Mermaid Franchise)
Yeah, you know that I had to include my favorite Disney Princess. Ever since I was a little boy, Iâve always absolutely ADORED Ariel. I relate to her rebellious nature, since Iâve always had a naturally rebellious side to me. Sheâs playful, mischievous, adventurous, curious, bubbly, determined, sweet, fiery, and a painfully accurate portrayal of adolescence. Sheâs reckless, naive, impulsive, stubborn, and headstrong. I love how flawed she is because it makes her feel more real and three-dimensional. I honestly love how relatable she is and even as someone in my late twenties, I still relate to Ariel even to this day. I know the feeling of wanting more out of life and wanting to explore beyond the confines of one's current existence. Ariel wants to learn more about the human world and wants to be a part of it because of her love of learning and her fascination with the human world. I adore just how curious and daring she is. When she sees something that interests her, she pursues it and is just so passionate about it. Sheâs just so engaging. I also love how on land when sheâs canât talk how adorable she is with her facial expressions and actions. Sheâs just such a delightful character. She sees what she wants and she goes for it and I love her for that. I honestly get so mad when people say sheâs just boy-crazy and threw her life away for a man. Did people not watch the movie? She sang a whole mother-flipping song about how she wanted to be part of the human world long before she ever saw Eric. He was just what finally got things going. Besides, thereâs nothing wrong with wanting romance because thatâs not all she wants. She wants to explore the world and learn. The live-action remake actually made the character even better and considering how much I love the character, thatâs saying something. And yeah, the live-action remake is amazing and the best of the live-action remakes (Which I have a video all about on YouTube). This little mermaid is the best Disney Princess and one of my favorite fictional characters of all-time.
Honorable mentions:
Now before I name my number 1 favorite, lets name some honorable mentions. Keep in mind that these arenât in any particular order. Madellaine from The Hunchback of Notre Dame II, Esmeralda from The Hunchback of Notre Dame, Alice from Alice in Wonderland, Judy Hopps from Zootopia, Elsa from the Frozen franchise, Jasmine from the Aladdin franchise, Belle from Beauty and the Beast, Jane from Tarzan, Violet from The Incredibles franchise, Jessie from the Toy Story franchise, Kiara from The Lion King 2: Simbaâs Pride, Dory from the Finding Nemo franchise, Vanellope from Wreck-It Ralph, Miss Bianca The Rescuers franchise, and Rapunzel from Tangled.
Melody (The Little Mermaid II: Return to the Sea)
I mean, is anyone surprised? Iâve already mentioned that sheâs tied with Jack Frost from Rise of the Guardians as my favorite fictional character of all-time. I absolutely ADORE her! Much like how her mother is an accurate depiction of teenage struggles, Melody is an accurate representation of preteen struggles. Sheâs awkward around her peers, sheâs doesnât know how to act around people, sheâs shy around boys, she feels like a fish out of water (No pun intended), sheâs unsure of herself, has a hard time communicating with her parents, and doesnât make the best decisions. These are all part of growing up and they captured that flawlessly with her. She has the same traits as her mother but she also has her differences that make her feel like her own unique character. Unlike her mother, who is extroverted and confident, Melody is introverted and self-conscious, which makes her feel more relatable to me. I love how they can make her very awkward without having to make it her most defining character trait like with the Disney heroines of the Revival era. She only feels comfortable in her skin when sheâs out swimming and sheâs told that she canât go out into the ocean. Thatâs something many of us can relate to with how weâre comfortable living a certain lifestyle, doing something we love, or being true to ourselves only to be told we canât for whatever reason. Being a naturally rebellious person with interests that arenât traditionally masculine, I definitely relate to that. Plus, being someone who always wanted to be a merman, I also have a massive love for the ocean and Melodyâs explosive passion and undying love for the sea is just so engaging. But I also love how she also has a lesson to learn, which gives her more of an arc than her mother, though to be fair, Ariel didnât really need to learn a lesson, King Triton did. But I still love how Melody had to learn her own self-worth and apologized for causing this mess. And instead of choosing between land or sea, she chooses both by breaking down the wall that divided them. She is the bridge that connects the two worlds together. Sheâs just such an engaging character. Every time I see her on screen, she's just so charming and entertaining. I love her passion, awkwardness, curiosity, mischievousness, playfulness, sweetness, cunning, and just everything about her. Maybe one of these days Iâll make a video all about how mermazing she is. She certainly is a remarkable character that is more than deserving of it.
And those are my top 10 favorite Disney heroines. Are any of my favorites your favorites? Who are your favorites? Let me know. Please like, comment, reblog, and follow me if you haven't already.

Animated 9: Cinderella III: A Twist In Time v Return To Never Land
Cinderella III {original-Cinderella (1950)}
It is in the words of Seamus Gorman 'A Masterpiece'. In his series reviewing the Disney Sequels it was considered the benchmark to measure all other Disney Sequels by. I don't remember which sequel got the damning 'It was good but it was no Cinderella III: A Twist in Time.' This movie has it all: time travel, characters with 3d personalities, that one iconic meme where the king says 'I forbid you to take another step' and the prince jumps out the window. Its so silly, its so fun, it is a masterpiece. Link to the Seamus Review:
~Anastasia redemption arc and character development ~The cat, lucifer, gets more screen time ~The king has a backstory
Time travel, and the prince. "But the talking mice say she's the wrong girl" " I forbid you to take another step down these stairs!" "Ok!*jumps out the window*"
Return to Never Land {originial-Peter Pan (1953)} *spoilers?*
It follows Wendy's canonical daughter Jane, in every version of the story where Peter returns to the Darling's window, he meets Jane, and this story gives her her own adventure. with Wendy as a turn of the century child, it isn't too much of a stretch to assume Jane would be growing up in the middle of a deeply contentious time in British History, that being the London bombings of World War 2, and Unlike Wendy, whom needed to understand that she didn't WANT to never grow up and embrace her coming maturity as it arrives, Jane had been thrown into a position in her family where she had needed to grow up too fast, and in her trip to Neverland understand the importance of that child-like wonder she had nearly lost.As such, she starts out deeply skeptical and frustrated by the nonsensical nature of Neverland, and being more trusting of adults than of children whose attempts of 'playing with her' were little more than bullying with the thin veneer of 'just a game', which ultimately allows her to be manipulated by Hook. But even then manages to grow attached to the lost boys and connect with Peter and due to her inability to fly for most of the movie had almost fully integrated into the world of Neverland and became the first Lost Girl by the time of the third act. While it's held back by the painfully early 00's music it's ultimately a very compelling story about a child in a deeply traumatizing situation finding temporary haven in a place untouched by the war that had so deeply distorted her worldview and ultimately reclaiming her right to have a childhood after constant danger of death and destruction had nearly wrenched it from her entirely.(also there's no racist Native American stereotypes that exist just for the sake of themselves and could have easily been some sort of fantasy species but nahhh it was the 50s so native americans were SUPER okay to be racist about/s)

i have so much anger towards the blue fairy on behalf of so many characters.
hereâs a little non-complete list of the characters whose lives she messed with (in no particular order):
tinkerbell: tinkerbell committed the grave sin of trying to help regina (who was not yet evil at this point in time) and blue punished her for that because of the bad people regina was surrounded with. and sure maybe tink shouldnât have stolen the fairy dust to help, but like she didnât even take much and weâve seen how big the bags are that they have of it, i doubt that made any real difference. and yet blue took away tinkâs wings for breaking a rule while trying to help an abuse victim oof
regina: at the time that blue refused to let tinkerbell help her, regina was an abuse victim who had never actually hurt anyone (yet). but because of her mother and rumple trying to manipulate her, blue didnât think she was worthy of being saved. HELLO?? (also if she had allowed tink to help regina, they might not have had such a falling out and maybe tink wouldâve kept trying and maybe sheâd have succeeded- do you know how many lives that couldâve saved??????)
fiona: objectively, it was stupid to tell fiona that rumple is destined to be a savior, of course she would want to protect her kid. yes, fiona did go too far with the whole shears of destiny thing, but honestly we have no reason to believe that fiona wouldâve actually been dangerous to anyone if she hadnât been banished. she just wanted to protect her son
malcolm/pan: if blue hadnât lied to him about why fiona was gone, he never wouldâve despised rumple as much as he did. and it stands to argue, he might not even have ended up abandoning rumple. his life couldâve gone completely differently tbh
rumple: blue caused him to grow up without parents who would have stayed around if she hadnât interfered, blue is the reason he ended up separated from baelfire (because of the bean)
baelfire: is blue hadnât given him that bean with the promise of basically everything he was yearning for, he wouldnât have ended up in the land without magic where panâs shadow got him and then he wouldnât have been stuck against his will for like 200 years on neverland
emma swan: if blue hadnât lied about the closetâs capacity, then emma couldâve gone through with her mother and she wouldnât have the trauma of her time in the system and from feeling abandoned all her life
pinocchio: if blue hadnât lied about the closetâs capacity he wouldnât have been tasked to take care of a NEWBORN at age 7 and he wouldnât have been separated for his father during most of his formative years
gepetto/marco: i know he partially brought this on himself by making blue lie, but if she hadnât done that, then he never wouldâve been separated from his son for 28 years
nova: blue stopped her from being happy with dreamy
grumpy: ffs blue is the reason his name went from DREAMY to GRUMPY. like?????
and honorable mention:
archibald hopper: i KNOW i know i know he wanted to be cricket but like. câmon. this is insane. she turned him into a bug. she came to fulfill his wish when he hadnât even said it out loud, just thought it- which is fine i guess, but that also means that she could have helped at any point earlier before innocent people had to die?? because there is NO way this guy never once thought âi wish i could be free of my parentsâ when thatâs his whole personality at that point like BLUE HELLO?????
#not neverland#sorry i just. i am so angry at this fairy for acting like sheâs all high and mighty and such a beacon of marality and yet still having a#hand in ruining so many peopleâs lives. like what the hell blue.#it was a wasted opportunity that they didnât make her a plot twist villain at the end. it wouldâve tied everything together so well#iâm not tagging all of these characters#once upon a time#moi#ouat

A look into the personal diary of Captain Rosehearts about his precious card soldiers. đ
Some glimpses of the backgrounds of the Heartslabyul boys in my Neverland AU! Riddle keeps meticulous records of each boy who joins his crew, writing down their behaviors, what attitudes need to improve, comments, and the most important thing of all: their departure date. Once Riddle deems a boy of no longer being a troublemaker, he sets a departure date for when they will return to the mainland; however, the date depends on the improvement of behavior, so it could be quick or long into the future. âš
Hopefully, you enjoy these little snippets of each boyâs background as well as some photos that capture moments aboard the Queenâs Court. Iâm eager to work on more for the Heartslabyul boys, but Iâm also excited to start revealing the designs of the other dorms. Also, again Iâm tagging OrthoâŠit will make sense eventually in the AU! đ€©
Adding a link to the first Heartslabyul lore post for my Neverland AU! Feel free to leave any questions in my inbox!

hello!
Could I request Fem!reader singing Isabella's lullaby to Leona?
Of course sweetie! I loved watching the first season of the Promised Neverland, so I haven't seen the second season to keep my memories of it pure </3... But sorry for the wait, I hope that you enjoy! As always, for those who don't know the song and/or wants to listen while reading, here it is!
youtube
~Humming a Lullaby to Leona~
[Fem! Reader, Established relationship, Minor agnst to fluff]
It might sound a bit obvious, but sometimes you just felt like you needed to get away from everything. Away from all of the magic, the overblots, and all the lunatics that all congregate at this school. You never asked to come here, but you'd be lying if you said that you always hated it here. It's just that- sometimes it's all just too much. You want to go home, but what's left for you there anyway? And at the same time, how would the aforementioned lunatics deal with you leaving? They'd all probably overblot again, seeing as how their local 'therapist' would be gone all of a sudden. No, you couldn't leave them, but sometimes you wished that you could. That, at the very least, you could be carried off to someplace where there's just less everything. Where you're not the only female student in an all-boys school, where you're not the only magicless student in a magic academy, where you're not isolated and chastised for being the only one from another world entirely...
So when Crowley has a few too many new expectations of you, when you just can't finish that one magic assignment, when you feel that your brain is about to split in half from Ace and Deuce's bickering- when all of the stress starts to pile up too high, you go to a secluded area on the cliffside in the forests behind the Ramshackle dorm. You felt quite fortunate that the school was located so high up; the view of the expansive ocean was breathtaking at this spot.
This time, you had brought your mandolin with you (courtesy of Sam for finding one for you), and you planned on playing some music to let off some steam.
You climb up and sit down on your usual rock, which was fairly tall, and you begin tuning your instrument as the wind gently caresses your face. You close your eyes and listen to the nature around you- to the sounds of the waves harshly crashing upon the bottom of the cliff, and to the sounds of birds singing in the distance. You open your eyes again, looking out into the sea and thinking, 'If I had wings, like a bird, could I fly across that ocean?'
Your fingers begin strumming on your mandolin automatically as your thoughts continue to wander.
'Or if I was lighter than a feather, could the wind blow me away back home?'
You start to hum and sing softly to the tune that you were playing, letting all of your stress fly away in the gentle ocean breeze. There were no lyrics, just the sound of your voice harmonizing with the hypnotizing way your hands played the instrument.
This was a lullaby your mother sang to you when you were a child, and you always thought it was something beautiful anytime she sang this to you. Only now do you start to realize what she must have been feeling as she sang, because you think that you feel the same.
'If I could only escape from here...'
'But that would just be unrealistic, so I submit myself to this fate, and I will continue to survive as I always have... I will cherish this life I live and of those around me.'
'I just want them to be happy.'
And just like that, your song had finished. It was short and sweet, yet it carried the weight of your emotions away, just as you'd hoped. You take a deep breath and you felt that all of your stress had melted away, and now you were just left with the sounds of the natural world around you- feeling that sort of emptiness that happens when you let out a good cry.
"Oi, herbivore, what's with that song you were playing?" You hear a deep, tired voice suddenly come from behind you. In your shock, you yelp and almost fall off of the rock you were sitting on, and when you manage to catch yourself, you look behind you to see Leona sitting on the grass, leaning against the rock as well.
"Oh! So sorry I didn't see you there, Leona," you chuckle nervously, "Was there something wrong with my song?"
"It woke me up," he huffs as he looks up at you with his bright green eyes, "You always play creepy songs like that?" Creepy doesn't even begin to describe how he felt about the song. If he was being honest, while it is indeed a very beautiful song, he thought it sounded like you just wanted to disappear- that you were wanting to be whisked away in the wind like a fallen leaf with nowhere to go. To him, it sounded like you were crying in the form of a song. And that, no matter how much he may try to deny it, scared him on the inside.
You laugh at his comment, "Does it sound creepy to you? I think it's quite nice actually. But I don't think I could do any justice to the original, though."
"The original?" he hums curiously. You smile and sigh bittersweetly,
"Yeah, the original. My mom sang it to me when I was little... She was really nice.. I miss her."
"Then sing it again."
"Huh?"
"If it reminds you of your home, then go ahead and start singin' again. Don't let me stop you just because I'm tryin' to sleep," he fakes a yawn and closes his eyes again in a way to show you that he was going back to sleep. But with the way that his breathing didn't change, you didn't quite believe that he was actually asleep- even though you know that one of his 'talents' is being able to fall asleep that quickly. You giggle to yourself and turn back around to face the ocean again, saying out loud,
"Well, if the kitty wants a lullaby to go to sleep to, then I have no reason not to deliver."
You could tell that your little nickname got under his skin with the little grumble that you heard coming from him, but since he was trying to fake being asleep, he made no objections to the name.
So you begin strumming on your mandolin once again, with the same tune as before, but when your voice starting humming the song, the change was subtle, but Leona could definitely hear the difference.
You sang as if your voice was meant to comfort him, as if Leona was the one needing relief from all of the stress. And why was it working? Muscles that he didn't even know were tense started to ease, and it felt like the air he was breathing was clearer. Your song didn't sound creepy, nor sad- it sounded like unconditional love and affection. It sounded like hope. Does that make him crazy for thinking that? Probably, but as long as you don't know how soft and sappy he's gotten because of you, it's fine. He can handle being a little vulnerable on the inside, at least.
You had your suspicions about it, but it was true that Leona was only faking being asleep so that he could listen to your voice some more. He wanted to continue to listen to hear that angelic tone sing, and initially he had debated saying anything at all when you finished earlier. But now he's glad that he did, because the way you're singing now sounds much happier than before.
While in the midst of his own thoughts, you finished singing your lullaby once again, and you allow the place to fall into natural silence once again. Turning around to look at Leona, you ask,
"Do you mind if I come sleep next to you? The breeze is getting a bit chilly from up here."
With a moment of reluctance and a small huff, Leona grumbles and scoots to the side without saying a word, patting the patch of grass where he was lying at earlier. You climb down the rock (making sure to be careful with your instrument too) and settle yourself in his old spot, cuddling up to him and sending your hands onto his chest to try to warm them up a little.
"I think that lullaby had the opposite effect," you yawn with a breathless chuckle, "I got myself tired instead of you."
"Don't worry about it, almost anything will make me go to sleep. Including your lullaby," he says.
"Did you like it?"
"Yes, I did," Leona sighs, "Now go ahead and take your nap already."
"Alright," you laugh tiredly, "But just so you know, I don't plan on going anywhere anytime soon. Even if I had the chance to go home, I think I'd stay here. I love you too much."

What if MC / Yuu originally came from the world of The Promised Neverland and never learned the truth about the orphanage, and Isabella somehow found a way to send her children to different worlds as a way to escape without being caught by the demons. Like there's not really *that* much you can do with that, so I didn't want to fully incorporate it into the story (also as a way to make sure that readers who hasn't seen TPN can also read this too) but I can't deny that I did write this with something like that in mind đđ

perhaps my most niche TPN opinion is that the cattle children should have distinct and slightly twangy accents depending on the farm they grew up on
#iâm right#like how fun would it be if there was a distinct Glory Bell accent and a Grace Field accent#and what if Norman picked up a particular Lambda twist to his speech that never goes away#the promised neverland

It's early, and I can't sleep. I have a TWST Jake and the Neverland Pirates AU, which I will be sharing more of later (I am dead serious). For now--
*Leona, Jack and Ruggie on Pirate Island*
Ruggie: "Right... we need a password. Got anything, Leona?"
Leona: "Hm... Yo-ho-ho."
Jack, confused: "W-What?! I get that we're pirates, but couldn't we come up with a better password than that...?"
Leona: "Heh... Just trust me."
*Outside of the hideout*
Azul, who has been standing outside and trying to guess the password for a full 2 hours: "Impossible... They must have a truly secure and complex password that not even I could come up with!"
