I got one question. I saw that you did some recap posts for the differences between the ENG and JP versions of the light novel. I was wondering. Did the ENG novel use the honorifics? Or dropped them like the ENG game? None of the posts were very clear about that.

Here is a chart of the original novel's pronouns vs. the approach taken by the English-language adaptation! 🥳

The chart may be hard to read, so here is a summary too:

・Riddle, Trey, Kalim, Vil, Lilia, Chenya: Do not use any honorifics in the original novel, recreated faithfully in the English-language adaptation

・Cater: -> Riddle-kun is localized just once as Riddley, and otherwise Cater refers to him as Riddle. -> EN has no nickname for Trey (originally "Trey-kun") -> Ace-chan > Acey -> Deuce-chan > Deucey -> Yuu-chan > Yuey ・Ace: Uses "senpai" with Trey and Cater, no honorifics in the English novel

・Deuce: Refers to everyone as "lastname-senpai" in the original novel, localized as just "lastname." (re: Clover, Diamond, etc.)

・Leona: Refers to Malleus as the English-language equivalent of "lizard-jerk" or "lizard-bastard," etc., localized as "little lizard."

・Ruggie: Refers to Leona as "Leona-san" originally, no honorifics in the English novel

・Azul: Refers to Riddle as "Riddle-san" originally (except for one dramatic moment in Book 6), no honorifics in the English novel

・Crowley: Refers to all students as "lastname-kun" (with a one-time exception of "Ace-kun"), localized as "Mr. Lastname."

・Yuuya: Refers to upperclassmen as "firstname-senpai," no honorifics in the English novel. He transitions from using "-kun" with Ace and Deuce to using no honorifics in significant character-development related moments in the original novel. There is a line in the original/EN game where Deuce calls Chenya by name. The line is said by Ace in the original novel, but misattributed to Yuuya in the English-language translation.
