Jacob & Co’s $580,000 Twin Turbo Furious Watch
The hypercar-inspired model includes two high-speed triple-axis tourbillions.
Jacob & Co. is making a statement with its latest release, presented in an unusual blue titanium case.
On Tuesday, the New York-based watchmaker added this new model to its Twin Turbo Furious series. The watch has a monster 57mm by 52mm case crafted from blue-titanium and 18-karat rose-gold, while the dial is framed with a blue rehaut made of Neoralithe—a UV, thermal and shock-resistant resin. The series is an ode to high-performance hypercars, so the nostalgic pit board and fuel gauge settings are front and center on the dial. And, as with most releases these days, the timepiece’s anti-reflective sapphire-crystal casing allows you to view every detail of its movement from its openwork front and caseback.
Like the other three series models, this Twin Turbo Furious uses the JCFM05 manual-winding tourbillion movement, made up of 832 components. The complications include two high-speed triple-axis tourbillions, a decimal minute repeater, a monopusher chronograph, and a reference time differential function. The complex movement allows for a 50-hour power reserve.
The original Twin Turbo Furious was launched back in 2016 at Baselworld and was recognized as the first timepiece in history to combine two triple-axis tourbillions and a minute repeater, according to World Tempus. Jacob & Co. incorporated the pit board into the Twin Turbo models to bring them closer to the design of hypercars and to offer collectors an easy way to compare two elapsed times, and it’s still the stand-out feature today.
Similar to old-fashioned pit boards, you’ll be able to manually set reference times by using its crank—pulled out to the first position and unfolded—to move the colored, rotating disk and central digital display to set the reference time. If you start the chronograph using the monopusher, you’ll begin to notice the elapsed differences. This rather vintage method of measuring time gives a nod to classic motorsports, proof that not everything old is outdated.
The watch is available in just 18 examples for $580,000. Visit Jacob & Co. to find an authorized dealer near you.

Donald and Scrooge have a talk.
Alternative to ao3:
Donald sighed as he stood outside the mansion, this would be the hardest thing he ever did but he knew it was something he had to do. He knocked on the door.
It opened to reveal Mrs. Beakley, who nodded at him with a sigh and gestured for him to come in. He gave her a small smile as he did so. The mansion was quieter than it had been in a while and that unsettled him, even if he knew why. Maybe this was a mistake... "He's in his office." She quietly told him, he gave her another smile and headed up there, well, no turning back now.
He took his time on the walk there, even though he knew the quickest route. He knew he was just delaying the inevitable and that that was bad, but he couldn't bring himself to care. Besides, if he moved too fast the eggs could get damaged, and that was the last thing he wanted. It hadn't been his first idea to bring them along but he didn't have any other choice. He was all they had right now. Hopefully he could change that.
That was part of the reason he was here, he wanted them to be able to at least know their Uncle, and they couldn't do that if the two of them weren't speaking. And if he were being honest with himself he really didn't want to lose any more family members, no matter how mad he was. He didn't think he could survive losing anyone else, he could barely survive losing Della. No, he choked back a sob, now was not the time to cry. Now was the time to fix things, or at least attempt to. He and Scrooge both were stubborn to the core and very proud, it didn't make things like this easy. But he was attempting to put all that aside, for the sake of the boys, he only hoped his Uncle would be willing to do the same.
There was only one way to find out.
He adjusted his hold on the eggs and knocked on the door. There was no answer as expected but he went in anyway. If his Uncle heard him he didn't show any sign of it, too busy hunched over some paperwork. He lightly tapped on the desk making him look up alarmed. He gave him a sheepish smile, "Hi, Uncle Scrooge."
"Donald Duck." Scrooge had to admit of all things he thought would happen today this wasn't it. His beloved nephew standing in front of him, holding his precious grandnephews, it was an unbelievable sight to be sure. He fought back a gulp, "Take a seat." The room fell silent, neither of them knowing what to say to each other until Scrooge broke it. "What can ae help ye with?"
"We need to talk." Oh, he hoped it wouldn't be that. It wasn't that he didn't have anything to say to his nephew, he had quite a lot actually, he just didn't know how to say it. How could he apologize for making the biggest mistake of his entire life?
"Do ye want to set them down? Ae can have Beakley get a nest." He offered in lieu of what he knew Donald wanted to hear. His nephew -as always- saw through him but took the offer anyway. The room fell silent once more.
"Do you really have nothing to say?" Donald quietly asked after she left, he carefully situated the eggs as he waited for his Uncle's answer.
Scrooge looked at him with sad eyes, "Ae have so much ae want ta say, Donald, ye dinnae even know." He stayed quiet and Scrooge sighed. "Ae'm sorry, Donald, Ae'm so sorry. Ae should never have made the stupid rocket and ae definitely shouldnae have tried ta talk her through that storm. There's nothing ae dinnae regret aboot this situation, ae let my pride get the best o' me and it's cost me everythin'." He finished brokenly, and he meant every word for it. If he could do anything to fix this, to take it back, he would. He'd do it in a heartbeat.
"Scrooge, it wasn't just your fault." His Uncle looked at him surprised. "Yes, you built the rocket and yes, you shouldn't have done that, but she was the one who took it. It isn't fair to put the blame just on you. I'm mad at you, furious even, but I want us to make up. I want you to be in their lives." He gestured to the boys. "They deserve all the family they can have. ...And I can't do this on my own. I was overwhelmed when it was just Llewelyn and now there's two more? I need help. I need my Uncle."
Tears welled up in Scrooge's eyes and he raced around his desk to give Donald a hug. "Ae need ya ta, Nephew. Ae'll do everythin' ae can ta make this right."
"Me too." Donald replied, muffled by his Uncle's coat.
_______________________________________________________________
"Why dinnae move back in here?" Scrooge asked his nephew a few weeks later. They were currently hanging out in the backyard, lounging around on the porch. Things between them were still tense but were slowly improving and he hated the idea of him and his other nephews living on a houseboat. Especially when they could live somewhere as nice as the mansion. He figured if he didn't ask now he never would, even if it ruined the peaceful atmosphere.
It was a great testament in how far they had come that Donald didn't outright balk at the suggestion. Just looked at his Uncle with demur. "I can't do that, Uncle Scrooge, I need to be out on my own. Be self-sufficient and all that."
"Ye can do that here." His Uncle protested.
"No I can't, you'll just try to pay for everything every time I hit a rough spot. And while nice, really won't do me any good. I need to learn to stand on my own." Yeah, Scrooge supposed he had to give him that one. He was proud of his nephew for taking the initiative, though he was still worried. He just had to trust he would reach out when he needed help. Donald said he would, but things like that were easier said than done, Scrooge knew that better than anyone. But he trusted his nephew, he just hoped his nephew trusted him.
Donald did trust him in fact, it wasn't how much it used to be -it probably never would be again- but it was there. And it was how he knew this was the right decision. "Listen I’ve been doing some thinking, what if you take Jet and Turbo?” Scrooge looked at him surprised. “I can’t handle all three of them and the houseboat is way too small for four people. I’ll bring Llewelyn over whenever I can and help raise the twins but I just can't take care of all of them. I trust you Uncle Scrooge, and so did Della, she would want what was best for them and this is what's best. Before I didn't really have a choice, and I was trying to come to terms with that, but now I do. I understand if you need to think about, there's no rush, they're still not due for a couple of months and-"
"Ae'll do it."
"You will?" Donald asked shocked. It wasn't that he didn't think he would -okay, some part of him did- he just didn't think he'd agree to it this quickly. Then again, he was the one who had taken him and Della in after their parents... passed. He was a softie for family, even if he didn't admit it.
"If it'll help ye oot then o' course ae will. We'll have ta do a lot o' preparations and such, and ae'll have ta move some thin's around at the bin but ae'll be more than glad ta do it." He gently picked up their eggs with a smile and Donald smiled as he watched them, he was already so smitten with them. The three of them seemed to have that effect on people. And it would be hard for him to leave the twins there, but at the end of the day he had to do what was best for them. Being mostly raised by Scrooge and his resources was what was best for them, he was sure of it. Scrooge could give them more than he ever could and that was all he wanted for his sister's eggs. As for his own egg, he would do anything he absolutely had to make sure it always stayed safe and healthy.
He looked down at it and his smile grew wider, he already loved this little being with all of his heart and he wasn't even here yet. This was the beginning of something great.

Transformers 2 is a gift for every car fan
Those who have petrol in their blood have to suffer these days. The Auto is not even a guilty pleasure anymore, as an owner you are already treated as a polluter. In Times of climate change, diesel gates and mobility change are not suffering only the industry has a massive break, the car fan also lives a shadowy existence.
He finds consolation in the cinema, because there is still plenty to do Hit the gas and smoke from the exhaust. Without any CO2 emissions. With oversized pickup over the Cruising the highway and singing the lavish V8 engine to the max bring – what hardly anyone in the German street scene would dare to worry about on the canvas for a cozy feeling. Except for Transformers– Rows are also rare.
The Transformers series still appreciates the car
The medium of film is also rethinking and has it Somehow forgotten fascination for the combustion engine. Daniel Craig aka James Bond would have in the new offshoot No time to die but almost the keys for one Electric speedster received and in the WatchmenSeries, all vehicles are of course on E-motor converted, even the old truck.

Declaration of love for the car: Le Mans 66
Whatever motor or battery is under the hood is a niche. It is not for nothing that the automobile is found on the penultimate page in the daily newspapers. Hollywood rarely dares to tell a story anyway dedicated to the hummer on four wheels – for example with the grandiose motorsport factory Le Mans 66 – against every chance, in which every little technical detail such as the correct oil viscosity or the ventilation of the brakes play a role.
Nevertheless: Iconic and passionately presented bodies, which everyone is only too happy to see the movie goer is looking in vain for his garage today.
A DMC DeLorean like from Back to the Future or Dodge Challenger by Vanishing point San Francisco you can also see it in the Transformers films not, yet they stand out in one discipline: director Michael Bay loves cars even more than his pyro escapades and transmits this passion also on the canvas.
© Paramount
Camaro prototype: Bumblebee is trying out a number of different muscle car series
Of course, the robots with the title change to Mostly in cars, after all one of the parties is called Autobots. And of course the makers also use this trick for a lot of product Placement. Michael Bay but puts his fuel-soaked toys far more than only suitable for advertising.
The cars become part of the story here, after all they are also alive because the transformers camouflage their appearance accept. Visually, it is always amazing how the machines turn in transform other machines. The metamorphosis from robot to car is like this brilliantly animated that the impression arises that it is an absolutely natural one Process.
Every transformer car has its own story
Most of the models seen in the five films in the main series are two-seaters loaded with horsepower, but also charming classics like the 1977 Chevrolet Camaro enjoy their performances. The Chevy even hides to Ignorance of its new owner Sam Witwicky (Shia LaBeouf) Fan favorite Bumblebee. The characteristics of the grown Muslecar also match those perfectly of the bright yellow transformer: stubborn, yet elegant and a real camarade just. The name Camaro is said to be dedicated to the French word for friend.
© Paramount Pictures
Automobile patriotism: The Autobots are particularly fond of US models
Which car embodies which character is advancing in every part anew to the fascination. Often so painful in Bays films Missing draft is hidden between rims and springs.
Crossheads like Bee or the cheeky twins Mudflap and Skids ride Camaro, especially extroverted and aggressive fighters Mercedes. If the most beautiful car out Transformers 3, a Benz SLS AMG, suddenly turned out to be a nasty Decepticon Soundwave, It even likes to pull the floor from under your feet.
Even Fast & Furious has less horsepower
The game doesn't always have to make sense. About when in The Last Knight an autobot called Hot Rod all the time with French Akzent speaks because he likes it that way, but with a Lamborghini Centenario is on the way, i.e. the largest possible portion of Italian eccentricity.
© Paramount Pictures
Lambo with a French accent in The Last Knight
But above all, Bay understood what makes cars. In addition to their exciting technology, their pure beauty. Acoustically and visually, the director indulges his film vehicles Maximum staging that almost borders on pornography.
What in Avengers and James Bond is just annoying because the Audis and Fords obviously serve advertising, Bay knows how to capture how competent in front of the camera. That the cars in his films are not just useful objects, is also reflected in the fact that some of the models even belong to the controversial filmmaker himself. The Porsche 911 Turbo off Bad boys comes personally from the garage of the 55 year olds.
© Sony Pictures
Typical Bayhem: bottom-view camera, the Porsche fills almost the entire picture (bad boys)
Those who can share this passion will find themselves in other franchises barely found anything today. Even the car film brand par excellence, Fast & Furious, has long had nothing to do with neat rubber. Vin Diesel, Dwayne Jonson and Co. prefer to concentrate on the most spectacular and possible stunts cheated on the computer, there are only the vehicles in which they sit Means for the purpose.
Are cars just everyday objects or even mobility from yesterday? Fortunately, at least not with the Transformers.
Transformers: Revenge is on tonight, March 18, 2020 at 8:15 p.m. on ProSieben.
Which films do you think have a lot of petrol in your blood?

2020 Toyota Supra First Drive: Automotive Husbandry
There was a time when Mama and Papa Toyota gave birth to strong, athletic sports cars, starting with the suave 2000GT, sent to boarding school in Coventry and raced by Carroll Shelby. Through the years the family grew to include lithe Celicas, stalwart Supras, even a scrappy rear-drive Corolla GT-S or two. Then something happened, and Mama Toyota found herself unable to conceive sports cars. An impatient Papa Toyota summoned his Fuji concubine, Subaru-san, who gave birth to identical twins—one of which he graciously allowed her to keep. Mama Toyota was furious and forbade Papa Toyota from ever showering his son, 86, with any affection or horsepower. To woo back his betrothed, who desperately wished to birth another great sports car, Papa Toyota hatched a plan to artificially inseminate an auspicious European egg for Mama Toyota to gestate. She’s just given birth, and now the world must determine how this half-breed stacks up against its all-Toyota siblings.
We created this origin-story myth for the joint development of the A90-generation Supra out of frustration when it proved impossible to pin down exactly what roles Toyota and BMW played in the initial design of this new car. The inline-six turbo is obviously all BMW’s—it served as the inspiration for this hook-up in the first place. (“Thy Supras Shall Have I-6 Engines” was chiseled as the forgotten 11th commandment.) Most invisible parts are shared and apparently developed by BMW, if the roundel stickers, engravings, and casting marks are to be believed. The bodywork and the tuning of every tunable element on the Supra was handled by Toyota. We’re told the joint-venture team aimed squarely at Porsche’s 718 range, with BMW targeting the Boxster; Toyota the Cayman.
As for the B58B30M1 engine, although its output roughly equates to that of the European-market BMW Z4 sibling, it does not in fact employ a particle filter in U.S. applications. This begs the question, why not uncork the extra horsepower BMW gets from its filterless U.S. application (tagged B58B30M0)? Chief engineer Tetsuya Tada answers by claiming that balancing the car’s engine and chassis at the Nürburgring led to the 335 hp/365 lb-ft rating. But we find it hard to believe that in this fanboy, numbers-obsessed market segment his team chose to remove 47 horsepower instead of fortifying the chassis to cope with 382 hp. Let’s hope that instead the strategy is to start out conservative and bring a steady stream of higher-output special editions in the years to come.
But let’s return to the essential question at hand: Is this bicontinental cross-breed a “real” Supra?
The striking design may not appeal to everyone, but at least it doesn’t look at all like any BMW and several design cues evince Toyota sports-car DNA: the hatch bustle shape and elements of the headlamp design hark to the previous (A80) Supra, and the side-window shape is pure 2000GT. The proportions are certainly fresh. It’s shorter in length and wider than any of its predecessors, with the cabin set well back behind the requisite long hood. It’s also impressive that the team managed to generate the aero forces required to guarantee stability at the car’s 155-mph-limited top speed with underbody features and the duckbill shape of the hatch surface, leaving the bodywork refreshingly devoid of external wings, spoilers, skirts, and splitters.
Inside, the 2020 Supra’s overall dash, door panel, and seat designs are unlike the Z4’s, but there’s no mistaking all the BMW switchgear—especially the entire iDrive system, complete with all BMW fonts (changing them would have reduced Tada’s budget for making the car lighter and quicker). Whatever you think of the appearance, the functionality of this interior is hard to fault. All controls are intuitive and within easy reach (Consumer Reports just rated iDrive second to Tesla among automotive user interfaces). The 14-way power seats are quite comfortable and supportive, with side wings that can adjust to hug you tight on a track, then relax for the drive home. And the whole driver’s side of the center console area is padded for taller drivers to brace their right knee against. Nice.
I drew the assignment to test out the new Supra in part because I’m old enough (just) to have been around for the 1993 A80 Supra’s launch. and I drove the 2000GT for MotorTrend Classic in 2005. Let me state right here that the 2020 Supra comes off as less exotic than either of those two. That’s OK. Evolving the A80 Supra Turbo, accounting for inflation, would have produced a low-volume 500-ish-hp car priced in the $75,000–$85,000 range, and the 2000GT’s successor was arguably the Lexus LFA.
That’s not to say that the new Supra doesn’t feel special. All new two-seat coupes are rare and wonderful these days, and this one certainly outperforms all its predecessors. Our database confirms that if the factory-estimated 0–60 time of 4.1 seconds holds up, this new Supra will outperform all previous production Toyotas (a supercharged 2008 Tundra TRD and a 1997 Supra Turbo rank as the quickest we’ve tested at 4.4 and 5.1 seconds to 60 mph, respectively).
There’s a launch-control feature to aid in achieving that number, and the standard ZF 8HP eight-speed automatic fires off lightning-quick shifts along the way. Engage Sport mode, and the faultless shift programming preselects the right gear for every corner. This mode also opens an exhaust flap, alters the audio-system engine-note enhancer, and orders up a delightful snap-crackle-pop on overrun courtesy of gloriously wasteful fuel injection during the exhaust stroke (fun fact: This is said to be the only Toyota designed with no fuel-economy target).
Supras are not drag-strip cars. They also need to be able to handle the corners, and toward that end the joint team built a strong foundation—the Supra’s torsional rigidity reportedly exceeds that of the Lexus LFA (not to mention the open Z4). The front strut suspension emulates the ‘super strut’ design Toyota launched on its AE92 Corolla in the late-1980s, featuring two separate ball-jointed lower links for reduced camber change and improved steering feel. To assist with chassis tuning, Mr. Tada once again engaged the services of Dutch Nürburgring veteran racer Herwig Daenens, who assisted with the Toyota 86 (née Scion FR-S).
Their goal was to tune for neutral handling with no surprises. “With a snappy car, the customer will experience it once and never drive it hard again,” Daenens explains as he laps Summit Point Motorsports Park outside Washington, D.C. His first hot lap strings together all the tight corners with laser precision and minimal steering heroics. He then gives me a Formula Drift lap or two, with no giant hand-brakes or diff-locks, rolling on the stock Michelin Pilot Super Sport tires inflated to placard specs (38 psi all around, cold). Speaking of differential locks, the Supra’s is infinitely variable and tuned to reduce corner-entry understeer and to maximize corner-exit traction.
When it’s my turn to duck my helmet under the low window opening and buckle in, I am struck by the intimacy of the car and cockpit. It feels as though I’m positioned near the centers of gravity and rotation, making it feel like this little world indeed revolves around me. One nit to pick—the large driver’s side-view mirror obscures the view of an upcoming apex worse than some, and the tallest drivers may be chagrinned to find the seatback tilting forward toward the rear of the seat track’s travel.
We’re instructed not to switch stability control completely off, to trail-brake into the turns, and to roll judiciously onto the throttle. Indeed, all those driving-school techniques provoke textbook responses in the Supra sans drama or surprises. The steering is extremely precise and nicely weighted, though it lacks the intimate communication of the Cayman Toyota is gunning for. Stability intervention is pleasantly surreptitious. And the super-strong Brembo brakes survive lap after lap after lap without fade, even as we all learn to press deeper into each of the closely spaced corners. Then during a later afternoon session, when we’ve probably used up 280 of the tires’ 300 tread-life rating, I even manage to string together a couple of very nice, controllable corner-to-corner drifts. I emerge, sweaty but smiling.
Once the red mist subsides and we take to the country lanes surrounding Summit Point, the car’s Sunday-drive demeanor proves equally delightful. The 12-speaker 500-watt JBL system cranks out the jams, the ride quality in Sport mode is sufficiently compliant to encourage leaving the car in this ‘fun-exhaust’ mode, and when zipping through a series of S-bends with your phone on the Qi wireless charger, a cover and sufficient fencing keep it from flying into the passenger footwell.
So is this miracle of automotive husbandry worthy of the Supra name? Heck, yeah. It reinvents the concept in a guise that make sense for today’s world, and it’s offered at a price ($50,920 to start, $57,375 fully loaded) that’s a relative bargain when measured against both its predecessor and its Porsche competitor ($58,150, $70,640 similarly equipped to the Launch Edition model). If it’s not precisely what you had in mind, the aftermarket is gearing up to help you fix that.

Driving from England to Geneva, the McLaren Way
There it is. A perfect stretch. It’s flat, straight, and long. I bury the pedal, the 4.0-liter twin-turbo V-8 roars with approval, and its furious sonic detonations burrow into the back of my skull as the car hurtles forward. The speedo reads in kilometers per hour, and I’m not exactly taking time to do the calculations to miles per hour: 250 kph … 260 … What little traffic exists retreats wisely to the right two lanes; it seems as if it’s almost stopped as our gold 720S streaks by.
By the time we hit those magnificent miles of unrestricted German autobahn, we are already a couple of countries deep from our starting point at McLaren Automotive’s gleaming glass headquarters in Woking, England. Destination: Geneva for its annual auto show. Our pack of 720S Spiders, 570S Spiders, and 600LTs first shot over to the mainland via the Channel Tunnel, a.k.a. the Chunnel, in order to get to the European continent.
As we waited to load the cars onto the train to France, it quickly became a scene. People appeared like moths drawn to our techno-colored, mid-engined British supercar flames. Photos were taken, questions asked. It’s rare enough to see one McLaren in the wild, let alone half a dozen. A similar scenario played out wherever we stopped; one woman was so jubilant at being able to take a photo with a car at a gas station that she gave my startled driving partner a big hug.
We took the long way to the land of watches and chocolate, traversing six countries in all. One thing we learned hopping from McLaren to McLaren was that multiple-hour runs along the restricted-speed highways weren’t that much of a burden to endure. In fact, miles passed by in relative comfort; the Bowers & Wilkins stereos proved sufficient, the navigation setup acceptable.
But we all know what McLarens are made to do, and when it was our day to play in the 600LT, one of our 2019 All-Stars, we got after it with a vengeance over a delightfully twisted asphalt playground in Germany’s Black Forest. Then as we approached Geneva after a long, tedious Swiss highway run, we were tipped off to another fabulous mountain pass. With dusk descending, flames puffed from the Longtail’s massive tailpipes. It’s a magical sight.
More magic awaited us at the Geneva show after we reluctantly handed back the keys. We marveled at what is arguably the ultimate McLaren, the Speedtail, which we recently covered in some depth. It’s even more breathtaking in person, a stunning carbon-fiber Ultimate Series realization of how far McLaren has been able to stretch the talents of its engineering and design teams. McLaren folks we talked with at the show are confident the Speedtail will do what the company’s devastating F1 did some 20 years ago—set records. Duck and cover, Bugatti.
Speaking of Bugatti, Geneva never disappoints as a showcase for astonishing supercars like Bugatti’s latest, the one-off, Chiron-based La Voiture Noire (“the Black Car” in French), which one gazillionaire bought for somewhere north of $18 million after taxes. All-electric mega-machines are also becoming more common, with Pininfarina’s $2.6 million Battista being the most extreme example. Ferrari’s longtime design partner says its first ground-up creation will be good for roughly 1,900 horsepower. No, that is not a typo. Pininfarina claims it will be the most powerful street-legal car of all time.
Outside of the certifiably insane Battista, EVs of all shapes, sizes, and prices continue to proliferate at shows like Geneva, cars like the Polestar 2. The Volvo-associated Polestar is just one of a slew of marques that plans to flood the market with all-electric offerings in the next year or two.
The Volkswagen Group, especially, is electrifying so fast it may have to change its logo to a charging plug. At Geneva, it showed off one of its most expressive offerings to date, called the ID Buggy. Based on VW’s new, small-car electric platform known as MEB, the dune-buggy-style vehicle has no doors or roof, and it nods to the famed Meyers Manx and vehicles like it, which originally used Volkswagen air-cooled engines to provide their power.
We got a walk-around of the Buggy with VW design chief Klaus Bischoff, who broadly hinted that it would be built by a third-party automaker as a specialty vehicle of sorts as soon as two years from now. He called it “pure driving fun.” That’s exactly what we want to see and hear when it comes to EVs, cars created for the joy of driving, cars like the amazing McLarens I had the privilege of piloting to Geneva in order to catch another glimpse of the future.

Tak for kaffe.
I 2020 kommer der tilmed en racing serie udelukkende for Lamborghini Urus biler. Her vil man kunne forvente at se den store bil i både offroad og normale veje, som vil være med til at understrege bilens potentiale, når først det går off-road.

Tasty Treats From the 2018 Goodwood Festival of Speed
The Goodwood Festival of Speed is so great because you have people of all ages and types celebrating cars of all ages and types. It’s a true love fest that is organic at its core, even as it has become larger and more commercial each year.
We traveled to West Sussex to experience the majesty of the manor of His Grace, the Duke of Richmond (formerly the Earl of March) to see the lawns dotted with car displays and the driveway that is the Hillclimb.
Here are some things that caught our eye this year at the 2018 Goodwood Festival of Speed.
Porsche celebration
Porsche celebrated its 70th year showing production cars at Goodwood, with a strong collection on display and moving up the Hill. A sculpture with six Porsches was displayed in the lawn of Goodwood House to mark the anniversary. Climbing the hill in the Supercar group was the new 911 Speedster concept with retro wheels, mirrors, and a tan interior. Also to be ogled: the 1955 Porsche 550 Spyder with a steel space frame, aluminum body, and 110-hp flat-four engine good for 140 hp. The example pictured below was No. 5 of 90 built.
Toyota Supra
A camouflaged Toyota Supra was there to delight and tease. It doesn’t go on sale until next year. In fact, we won’t even see the production car unwrapped until 2019. Like the BMW Z4 that was also developed in this collaboration, it will have a German 3.0-liter turbocharged straight-six engine and eight-speed transmission in a light and well-balanced car. At Goodwood, it was driven by Toyota chief engineer Tetsuya Tada.
McLaren
McLaren debuted the 600LT at Goodwood this year, and the longtail with its 3.8-liter twin-turbo V-8 made the Hillclimb along with the Ultimate Series Senna and the 720S, 570GT, and 570S Spider. On display was the 1995 McLaren F1 original hypercar with a V-12 that rocketed it to 240 mph and won Le Mans in 1995, as well as a 1993 McLaren F1 and the 1966 Ford GT Mk II driven by Bruce McLaren. Unrelated to McLaren, a one-off custom builder displayed the P1 GT Lanzante, reminiscent of the F1 GT of the late ’90s, with a huge fixed wing.
We did the Hillclimb as a passenger in a 720S driven by Ben Barnicoat, part of the McLaren GT Driver Academy, who showcased the car’s capability. He loves the stability and handling of the 720S. I loved the thrill ride. The car wiggled and bounced but remained planted and stayed out of the hay bales that line the course.
Aston Martin V8 Cygnet
The little hatchback looked bizarrely out of place in the supercar Hillclimb, a stubby hatch surrounded by sleek sports cars and a few high-performance SUVs. Until you heard the 4.7-liter V-8 stuffed inside. Love it or hate it, you couldn’t help noticing the little car from Aston Martin Lagonda.
1959 Cadillac Eldorado Biarritz convertible
The giant fins on the 1959 Cadillac Eldorado Biarritz convertible drew attention in England, screaming American heritage on the Goodwood lawn. The Eldorado is laden with chrome and was a marvel in its day for having six-way power seats and electric windows and roof. Its huge 6.4-liter V-8 only churned out 345 hp.
1960 Chrysler 300 E convertible
Beside the Caddy was a 1960 Chrysler 300 E convertible with large diagonal rear fins. Designed by Virgil Exner, it had a forward look that Chrysler designers would later bring back. It also had power swivel seats that turned to the curb when the doors opened. Only 125 were made.
Apollo Intensa Emozione
In the car’s first public run, the Apollo Intensa Emozione’s throaty 780-hp V-12 thrilled the crowd on the Hillclimb. The IE’s owner said the tech in today’s supercars makes them too easy to drive—they should require skill and talent. Back to the future.
W Motors Fenyr SuperSport
Sure to inspire debate on styling, the Fenyr SuperSport by W Motors is now on sale, and the $1.2 million car held its own on the Hillclimb. Its 3.8-liter twin-turbo flat-six pumps out 800 hp. Built in Dubai, this car is the son of Lykan from Furious 7. It made its debut this year in Geneva, but this was its dynamic debut: a chance to see all those sharp, crazy lines in motion.
Roborace
This self-driving car made it up the Hillclimb repeatedly without incident, which is more than a Siemens-equipped 1965 Ford Mustang could say, as its backup driver kept bailing it out of near collisions with the hay. The 500-hp electric Roborace had no driver aboard, just a lot of cameras, sensors, radar, lidar, and ultrasonic. (It also had onboard GPS, but trees that line the Duke’s driveway blocked satellite signals on part of the course.) The private company is developing automated systems it hopes to see other automakers use.

At Dark among the Prancing Horses: We Wander a Field of 70 Historic Ferraris
–
At 10 p.m. on a Saturday night, it’s curiously quiet just up the road from the Lodge at Pebble Beach, which in a few hours will become the teeming locus of this year’s Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance. Crews are undoubtedly scurrying to finish up preparations ahead of the moment the first automobiles will roll onto the lawn, just eight hours from now, but over on the 17th fairway, it’s practically silent. Seventy Ferraris sit, most of them covered, some by plastic sheeting, some under custom-fitted covers. And we’re just wandering around, taking them in, alone, under the high Monterey fog.
–
We’d been invited down to the grass by Ferrari North America public relations representative and photographer Michael Shaffer, who’d recently taken an interest in light painting and wanted to try it out on some of the historic cars the storied Italian concern had assembled to honor its 70th anniversary. The affable Shaffer, one of the most beloved characters on the international press-junket circuit, is the lens behind plenty of the photos you see credited to “the Manufacturer” in automotive publications. Although he lends his talents to numerous clients, he’s a dyed-in-the-wool member of the tifosi, and he was perhaps even more thrilled than we were to be out among the cars, left alone in darkness to capture their significant forms.
–
–
As far as significance goes, the 212 [above right] pales a bit between the first 125 of 1947 and the series of 250-badged cars that defined Ferrari from the late 1950s well into the ’60s. In contrast to the cars that followed but like its predecessors, the 212 carried a stumpy and pugnacious mien. Younger fans of the marque might find it a bit stodgy; it’s admittedly a car this author has grown to love only as he hit middle age.
–
This particular example, a 1951 212 Inter, was the oldest car on the field, exemplifying Ferrari a mere four years into its existence. Despite its civilized demeanor, courtesy of the Giovanni Michelotti–penned Vignale body, it’s got legit motorsport cred. In 1951, Ferrari entered this car in the deadly and grueling Carrera Panamericana. Driven by Pierro Taruffi and Luigi Chinetti, the latter of whom would wind up as Ferrari’s very influential North American importer, this little Inter (distinguished from the 212 Export by its longer wheelbase) won the whole shebang. A second Inter, piloted by Alberto Ascari and Luigi Villoresi, would place second. In honor of the victory, Ferrari produced the 340 Mexico the following year, powered by Aurelio Lampredi’s short-lived larger take on the Ferrari V-12. The 212 carries a 2.6-liter version of the Gioacchino Colombo–designed engine, which bowed in the 125 and saw duty for more than 40 years.
–
–
Mention the number 250 to a Ferrari enthusiast, and the models come fast and furious: SWB Berlinetta, GTO, Tour de France, Testa Rossa, and, of course, California Spider. The Cal Spider was available in both short- and long-wheelbase variants. It’s an SWB car that was so convincingly played by an MG in Ferris Bueller’s Day Off. But to some, its older brother—the long-wheelbase, Scaglietti-bodied variant—is the more Hollywood elegant of the pair.
–
This 1959 model was originally delivered with metallic blue paint over beige upholstery, its Colombo V-12 making a reported 235 horsepower. It even has a connection to C/D. We tested this very car—still wearing its original paint—in the September 1959 issue of Sports Cars Illustrated, which, as our esteemed deceased readers may remember, was what we called our magazine back then. Not long thereafter, it was traded in for a short-wheelbase GT, and shortly after that, it was repainted red. Since then, it has been restored a number of times, had its color changed to black, and during its most recent restoration in 2011, was sprayed in the attractive Amaranto hue it wears today.
–
–
In the latter half of the 1960s, the Colombo V-12 increased rapidly in displacement, growing from the 250’s 3.0 to the 365’s 4.4 liters. The big engine bowed first in the exceptionally rare 365 California Spider and sold most successfully in the 365GT two-plus-two, but it’s best remembered for its four-cam iteration, the mill that powered the 365GTB/4 Daytona. We found one sitting uncovered next to its short-lived sibling, the four-seat 365GTC/4.
–
The Daytona competed in sports-car racing, looking both buff and exceptionally fetching in competizione guise. A knockoff version of the Spider variant (actually a McBurnie-crafted fiberglass body mated to a third-generation Corvette chassis) appeared as the hero car during the first two seasons of Michael Mann’s revolutionary Miami Vice. But most important to this publication, a Kirk F. White–owned example served as the steed that ferried Dan Gurney and our own Brock Yates across the country in 35 hours and 54 minutes during the 1971 running of the Cannonball Baker Sea-to-Shining-Sea Memorial Trophy Dash. Fifteen years ago, long before his employment at this publication, your author asked Yates whether a more affordable modern car, like a Chevrolet Camaro or a then-new Nissan 350Z, might do the job just as well. His exact words elude recollection, but the Assassin’s eyes went a bit starry as he explained his continued reverence for the old machine, emphatically noting that he’d happily drive the car cross country again.
–
West Coast Ferrari distributor and casino magnate Bill Harrah reportedly hated the new 365 Berlinetta Boxer Enzo sent him. He loathed the mid-engined, flat-12–powered car so much that he returned it in exchange for a Daytona that had been sitting around Maranello. The burnt-orange car featured hot cams and rear wheels so wide that the factory added vestigial flares to the rear fenders, making the car a standout among standouts. The rumor goes that Harrah was once approached by a helicopter salesman, who sensibly suggested that air travel would make for a quicker trip between Harrah’s Reno and Tahoe casinos than making the schlep by road. Harrah told the poor sod that if the chopper was indeed faster than his Ferrari between the two points, he’d purchase one. There was supposedly a race. Harrah did not buy the helicopter. That car sold over the weekend at Monterey’s RM Sotheby’s auction for $687,500, which, if we’re frank, seems low.
–
We wandered across the field, trying to pick out the year of Michael Schumacher’s F310B 1997 Formula 1 car without peeking at its accompanying placard, guessing at which cars sat under covers. We were chuffed when we picked out a 330GTS just by its silhouette under a gray sheet. One particular example of the open 330 remains this author’s personal favorite Ferrari, due to a chance encounter nine years ago. It’s a yellow car featuring a black top and a rare three-abreast seat swathed in blood-red leather, which was spotted outside the banquet hall after the Greenwich Concours d’Elegance. For some reason, just sitting there, surrounded by modern, mass-market Phantoms and Flying Spurs, the convertible from 1967 seemed defiant, radiant, and absolutely perfect in the Connecticut summer night.
–
–
On the far side of the grass, wearing a similar hue to our beloved 330, sat a 288GTO, a car obsessed over by a certain subset of Ferrari nerds for its extreme take on Pininfarina’s beautiful 308GTB design. As iconic as is the 308 is to a generation who grew up watching Tom Selleck wheel a targa-topped GTS around Hawaii, the Dino 246GT’s successor wasn’t one of Maranello’s most stellar performers. Italian engineers weren’t immune to the plagues of the Malaise Era and were struggling to make power and shed weight in a new age of emissions control and more stringent safety regulations. Egged on by the madness of Group B competition in the 1980s, Ferrari turned the 308’s transverse V-8 90 degrees, lengthened the car to accommodate the new longitudinal drivetrain, and bolted a pair of turbos to the debored engine.
–
Its bodywork was a hodgepodge of fiberglass, Kevlar, and carbon fiber; only the 308’s steel doors remained. The result, as was the case with many other Group B homologation specials of the era, was utterly nuts, but the Ferrari had no direct rival on the market when it arrived in 1984. What’s more, it never found itself in competition, due to the cancellation of the specification it was built to, and was ultimately overshadowed by its successor, the vaunted F40.
–
–
If the 288 was a thorough rework of the 308, the F40 was an absolute perversion of the shape, as far removed from the 308’s sexed-up take on the 1970s wedge as its competitor for the hearts and minds of young boys in the late 1980s—the Porsche 959—was from a dowdy old 911. In short, if you were 11 years old in 1987, the F40 may as well have come from Mars as from Maranello.
–
As with the 959, the F40’s roofline was about all that was left of its predecessors. And if the steel-tube frame underneath was decidedly retrograde tech, even for the day, one piece of the F40 heralded the future of mainline Ferrari road cars. As a 911 Turbo now carries a standard all-wheel-drive powertrain and liquid cooling, so does the 488GTB feature a longitudinally mounted twin-turbo V-8 under its rear glass. The F40 looked like no Ferrari before it, and no Ferrari since has carried its blend of brute purposefulness and Italian beauty quite so well. Perhaps only the track-special FXX K has come close. And unlike the 288, the F40 did see competition, albeit only in the hands of privateers.
–
–
Its 12-cylinder successor, the F50, looks best under a red tarp. Though it’s often hailed as the progenitor of a series of top-line, limited-production Ferraris, the F40 truly marked the end of one era of Ferrari’s history, while the F50 heralded the dawn of another. The latter car is the direct forebear of the super Ferraris that have followed it, the Enzo of 2002 and the recent LaFerrari. In this class, beauty is secondary to purpose, and the purpose is to package everything conceivable that the company has learned from its F1 program into a roadgoing machine capable of going toe to toe with most anything the Volkswagen Group or McLaren can muster.
–
Remember, however, that the F50 was ginned up during a time when the only real competition for such a machine was McLaren’s F1, which cost roughly twice as much as the Ferrari. Jaguar’s XJ220 had finished production in 1994, the year before the F50 bowed, and besides, Coventry’s high-speed entry in the supercar sweepstakes offered only a lowly V-6. The 959 was done, leaving the occasional-production 911 GT2 at the top of the line until Porsche’s Carrera GT arrived to do battle with the Enzo. The mid-engined 911 GT1 Straßenversion homologation special was so rare, it hardly counts. During instrumented testing, we found that the F40 largely outperformed its successor and that a pedestrian F355 could outbrake it. Nevertheless, the F50 remains a car of import, a herald of stupefying machines yet to come.
–
Under the cover of darkness, wandering freely without throngs of gawkers to impede our view of the machinery, bench-racing cars we’ve only read about in books, we walked the fairway with Ferrari PR man Jeff Grossbard, discussing machines that our jobs occasionally afford us the opportunity to drive, even if the size of our paychecks precludes even considering their purchase. One can get cynical about the lofty perch the brand occupies, the wealth of many of the owners who care more about the prancing horse on the nose than the machinery underneath or the history that black stallion represents. But earlier in the week, the true import of the marque had made itself clear to us.
–
Leaving the Inn at Spanish Bay in a blue 488 Spider, we felt a bit plebeian, preceded as we were in immediate departure by a LaFerrari and a Koenigssegg. In that company, the open 488 seemed about as impressive to the assembled gawkers as a Kia Cadenza. But out on Pebble Beach’s 17-Mile Drive, we’d stop among the throngs of tourists who weren’t necessarily in town for the Car Week hullabaloo. At one such pause along the edge of the Pacific, a retiring 13-year-old boy from London, still growing into his newfound height, cautiously approached, snapping pictures as if the Ferrari might be an unpredictable animal, one quick to flee or attack. His father sized us up warily, hoping his son wasn’t in for disappointment at the hand of a unsympathetic adult. We called out, “Hey, you wanna sit in it?” The kid’s face lit up, though he barely said a word. He removed his Adidas sandals before he stepped over the car’s high sill and proceeded to sit silently in the 488’s driver’s seat for probably 15 minutes, taking in the angles of the dash, the purposeful little red-anodized manettino on the steering wheel, the large carbon shift paddles, lost utterly in the dreams that schoolboys dream.

The best thing about a Ferrari—and, by extension, the best thing about communing with 70 of the things at night on an empty fairway—is that it taps in to that sense of awe and wonder that so often gets swept away in the mundanity of adulthood. Whether the first car to captivate you was a 250 Lusso, a 308GTS, or, yes, even an F50, the most wonderful thing about a Ferrari is merely that it exists in the world; that for 70 years these cars have fueled the dreams of generations of children as well as the inner children of many an adult. The racing victories are part of it, surely, as are the legends of men like Chinetti and Lauda, Harrah and Colombo. As is the purple ink that flowed from Il Commendatore’s pen. But to hear a 250 Testa Rossa light off, to catch a glimpse of a 308 on the street, to have the chance, as a kid, just to sit in one of the damn things and drink in the feeling, that’s a good 90 percent of the joy of the marque. The last 10 percent is reserved for owners, and we’re awfully glad the owners of these 70 cars chose to share.

For many of us, ‘The Fast and the Furious’ franchise changed our lives and recruited some to join the automotive lifestyle. When we first asked David Oden why he ended up choosing an R33, it was more or less about the Fast & Furious fanboy angle and a much longer Motorex story in the late 90’s. He decided to tell us the Fast & Furious story.
[wc_box color=”danger” text_align=”left”] Vehicle: 1996 Nissan Skyline R33 LM Limited Owner: David Oden Hometown: Houston, Texas Engine: RB26DETT Power: 562 whp / 472 lb/ft TQ Social : Instagram [/wc_box]
After watching the first installment in the series, the yellow right-hand drive Nissan driven by Leon from Dominic Toretto’s clan of street racing entourage, caught his eye. Piquing his curiosity, David began his research on “Big Bird” to figure out what kind of car it was and why it was so special. He soon realized the 1995 Nissan Skyline GTR R33 Leon drove in the movie was a “forbidden fruit” here in the United States.
[wc_testimonial by=”- David” position=”right”]“Everyone wants what they can’t have and I made it my mission to get one!”[/wc_testimonial]
Thus the research on laws, importations, customs, titling, part replacement, and every other aspect of owning a GTR state-side began. Before finally owning the R33 LM, David did purchase a 1995 Nissan Skyline R33 GTR back in 2006. This wasn’t his first car that he owned bringing him into the car scene, but as David explains to us there isn’t enough room in the feature for all the cars he has modified. The 2001 Honda Prelude start off his list of highlights from over the years, purchased new which he then turbocharged followed by blowing the engine and then selling the car. Next up is the 2005 Infiniti G35 Coupe with the twin turbo set-up and full custom audio that he sold as well. Now we are caught up to the 1995 Nissan Skyline R33 GTR that was purchased in 2006.

Shortly after acquiring the GTR, larger turbos were fitted, pushing 574 hp to the wheel. After that, David was officially part of the cult following that worships the “GTR” badge. During his quest for more power with plans to for 1,100 hp in the GTR, David went through upgrading the turbos followed by blowing up the motor. And it didn’t stop there: He rebuilt the motor and blew the turbo cartridge, then he fixed that and blew another turbo so he built a custom top mount GT35R 1,100 hp Setup. At this time he was contacted by a good friend importing vehicles through Florida which changed his plans. His friend came across the extremely rare 1996 R33 GTR LM limited from a private buyer in Japan, knowing how rare the car was he immediately sold the 1995 R33 GTR to purchase the 1996 GTR LM Limited.
The combination of the RB26DETT motor with the ATTESA AWD system in the GTR is the reason why David chose this platform. David believes both were decades ahead of the times and both have stood the test of time as a platform that makes incredible power more reliably than others. With an extremely strong cast iron block, it’s able to withstand serious amounts of heat and boost pressure fed by a twin turbocharger setup.

For many of us in the car scene, it’s a lifestyle and this goes for David as well. He loves accelerating like he’s on a roller coaster which is what brought him into building in the first place. Once he got into sprint racing and realizing how fun driving on the track was, he knew he wouldn’t stop building cars for “show” and “go”.
It wasn’t all fun and games as one of the biggest challenges David faced was importation. Under VCP32, the official law where the 1996-1998 Nissan Skyline R33 passenger car entered the country, the GTR must be brought into compliance with all applicable United States FMVSS, DOT, EPA and NHTSA guidelines. At the time there was only one registered importer, JK Technologies in Baltimore, Maryland. The process isn’t for the faint of heart or those without deep pockets as it will cost you for the magic formula to get them stateside.
The compliance package cost as much as the purchase price and it came with a complicated process to boot. Trouble came up when the technicians put the GTR on the dynamometer for testing and discovered the motor was damaged. A bearing on the motor had worn completely causing a tapping noise … “rod knock.” This brought the process to a halt and because of the mess, lawyers had to get involved to determine the next steps. By law the car must complete the required compliance testing with the original motor it was imported with, which meant the tests had to continue with a damaged motor.
After that fiasco was sorted out the GTR completed the testing and was sent to Alamo Autosports in Arlington, TX. Once it arrived, the motor was pulled out to begin the rebuild process. Two years after the date of purchase, the GTR finally arrived to Houston in December of 2015.
David’s favorite aspect of the build is the rarity of the car, with only 98 in the entire world and only 2 of them in the United States; this is a rare beast. David guarantees us you will never see another one of these cars in your life. The second favorite aspect of his build is how close he kept the car to Nismo specs. He could’ve opted for more powerful or higher quality parts for the build, but that’s not the route he wanted to go for.

The intentions for the GTR was to own a piece of Nissan history and create a highly valuable asset using only NIsmo parts. Well, his goal was achieved. David followed his build plan all the way through and never strayed. Once he was done with the build, he took the GTR out to Motorsport Ranch Cresson, TX and Circuit of the Americas Austin, TX for some fun runs. Now David is tempted to give the car more power and much better brakes than the factory offered but for now he plans to hold off as he’s in the progress of building two race prepped R32 GTR’s and the first 1999 R34 GTR V-SPEC Early Edition in the United States which is on its way. That’s not the only GTR in the stables, he also has an daily driven R35 so he is occupied with those for now.
