Big Block Power! 1,000 Horsepower Plus, Using Two $163 Ebay Turbos On A Junkyard Big Block.
Yep, it is totally possible to build 1,000 horsepower using two $163 cheap Ebay Turbos on a junkyard big block Chevrolet. Make no mistake, this isn’t a replacement for a high dollar race engine, but it will make legit 4 digit horsepower and if you treat it right it can live. And boy oh boy the burnouts you can do! Mmmm Mmmm Mmmm.
In this video you’ll see all kinds of great Big Block love with junkyard, crate engine, and dedicated engine builds being tested with Nitrous, boost from a roots blower, and of course cheapo GT45 turbo boost baby! As usual, Richard will walk us through all the testing, the power, the lessons learned, and the data accumulated. It’s not a Richard Holdener video without learning something and that’s why we love watching them. Nobody has more dyno testing to report than this guy so watch, enjoy, and see what a man motor can do.
Video Description:
BOOSTED JUNKYARD, CRATE MOTOR AND DEDICATED BBC BUILDS. WHAT BBC WORKS BEST? WHAT HAPPENS WHEN YOU ADD NITROUS TO YOUR JUNKYARD BBC 454? WHAT ABOUT WHEN YOU ADD NITROUS TO A HEALTHY 496 STROKER? HOW WELL DOES A 540 CRATE MOTOR RESPOND TO BOOST FROM A 6/71 ROOTS BLOWER? HOW WELL DO TWIN (EBAY GT45) TURBOS WORK ON A JUNKYARD, SBE GEN 6 454? CAN THEY REALLY MAKE OVER 1000 HP?

What Could Finnegan Possibly Want With A One Owner Big Block 4-Speed Corvette That Has Been Sitting For 40 Years?
Friends of Finnegans, or those that watch and pay attention to the channel enough, know that Mike would really like a C2 Corvette to build into a fun and fast street strip car. So when he heard about a 1966 Corvette, that’s an original owner big block and 4-speed car that had apparently been sitting on blocks for 40 years or something. So in this video him and Newbern head out to see if they can look at it and see what the owner actually wants for it. In typical old barn find fashion, and because it is a special piece for sure, the owner wants to see what it is worth to the market instead of just taking the first offer.
But does he ultimately take Mike’s money? As usual, this isn’t going to be a super simple or straight forward deal, because Finnegan and Newbern are involved.
Here’s the video description:
We began filming Episode 169 of Mike Finnegan’s Garage about six months ago when I was sent a message about a 1967 Chevrolet Corvette that was hiding just a few miles from my house. The seller told me he was the original owner and had put the car up on blocks 40 years ago, waiting for the right time to restore or sell it. It appears that time has come. Newbern and I drove my dog to the Vet for a checkup and then we continued driving my ’67 Chevy C10 until we found the owner of this derelict 427/4 speed Corvette convertible. He told me it was a ’67 although I think I referred to it as a ’66 and a ’67 in the video. Anyway, after trying to buy the car from him for several months I finally gave up and bought a different car. My friends from Hot Rod Ranch found me an unfinished ’66 Corvette Coupe project car near Livermore, California. The dudes from Alloy/Driven Garage went and looked it over and picked it up for me. This car is more my style; it’s already modified and unfinished, which means I can make it my own. Someday I’d like to turn it into a fast street/strip machine. For now, I just have to make a plan to get it home.

Beater Square Body K-5 Blazer Greatness! Buy This Thing And Be The Envy Of Every Import SUV Driver In Your Town!
There is nothing wrong with “Crossover” SUVs as it pertains to them being useful everyday transportation for lots of folks. They offer more room than a sedan, sit up a little higher for better visibility, and they do offer them with trim packages that rival some luxury cars. But that doesn’t make them cool, and none of your friends are going to tell you they wish they had one. Maybe your “parent friends”, you know the ones that you only know because your kids do sports or something with them? Yeah, we don’t care about those friends. We care about the friends you have 4am stories with. The ones your wife laughs at and shakes her head. The ones she knew came as part of the package, but loved you enough not to care. Yeah, those friends.
Good friends help you make poor decisions, and this is one of those. I mean at least to normal people. To me this is a good deal at the $2,000 it probably takes to get it. Unfortunately, the passenger side isn’t as straight as the driver’s side but that just means I won’t care about painting it or changing out the Swampers. It needs an engine, but I wouldn’t do anything but a cheap small block with headers and Flowmasters so it sounds good. This bad boy would be the slightly obnoxious ride I’d take to Home Depot, the grocery store, and to drop the kids off at school, so that all the other dad’s would realize they have nothing left to live for and so that all the moms will shake their heads and feel sorry for my wife. In fact, I think this bad boy needs a windshield banner that says “Bad Decisions”. And if someone from BANGshift land buys it, I’ll have one made in the color of your choice.
Someone buy this thing since I have no money. Then drive it all over, go get muddy in it a couple times a year, and share every driving experience with all of us that wish we owned it.
Here is the info from the seller: CLICK HERE TO SEE THE ORIGINAL AD AND SEE IF YOU CAN BUY IT

Donut Derelicts: SoCal’s Oldest Weekend Cruise In Still Packs The House In Huntington Beach And We’ve Got The Photos
(Photos by Wes Allison) It might be cold and snowy in a lot of the country, but it’s still cruising weather for most of SoCal and that means Donut Derelicts baby! Wes hit up the Huntington Beach cruise in so we could share the lastest and greatest with you guys, and boy were there some cool hot rods, customs, muslce cars, and more on site this weekend. Whether you are into customs, traditional hot rods, muscle cars, pro touring, trucks, drag cars, motorcycles, or anything else automotive, you’ll find something that turns your crank at Donut Derelicts. This place really is a SoCal staple, and one of those deals that folks from all over the country want to come and experience.
We know a lot of guys that come out for a Pomona Swap Meet and stay longer or come early so they can go to Donut Derelicts. And while you can come and walk around anytime, if you want a spot in the lot you have to be on your way before it gets light out. This really is something truly special. Now that I live in Texas, I do miss some of the “little” automotive events and such that happen regularly at places all over SoCal. But lucky for you and me, Wes shot a bunch of photos and we’ll be running them in three different photo galleries this week.
Here’s the first one!

Saving History: This Restoration Of A 250-Year Old Colonial-Era Hammer Is Awesome
What are restorations but preservations of history, right? We like watching them for various reasons. In the arena of machinery we like them because we get to see the inner guts of different things that we have never seen taken apart before. In the realm of history we like to see things from the past that have been neglected brought back to working order and in some cases better looking than they were new. But what about the restoration of an object that has no moving parts? That’s the case here as the video claims its subject to be a 250-year old American colonial era hammer head. This one involves some science, some wood working, and elbow grease to take something tat was buried for centuries and make it nicer than it was new.
Some people like to joke about the “grandfather’s hammer” analogy were someone claims to have their grandfather’s hammer which is exactly as it was when he had it aside from the new head and handle.
In this case, the head gets saved and the handle gets made. We think that the whole process is great and employees technology from the modern era (electrolysis) and things that would have been used in the 1700s (files and rasps).
Satisfying!

Retro Review: This Look At The 1991 Lumina Z34 Is Pretty Great – 200hp and A Stick!
History shines its unflinching light on things in different ways. We remember some cars as being junk when they were pretty good. We remember some cars as being pretty good when they were junk. What of the Chevrolet Lumina Z34? Well, this look at the 1991 Lumina Z34 is pretty great because it lays out everything the car was when new. It was a big coupe, a 200hp big coupe that was equipped with a Getrag 5-speed stick! We totally forgot that they even made a stick shift version of this car.
There are parts of the car that are aged, like the body cladding but when we look at what this thing was and how it was priced, how it performed, etc, it was pretty awesome. This was not just a sticker performance car with a spoiler glued to the trunk. It was, from the bottom up designed to be a sports coupe that could compete with anything else in that segment.
The staff at Motorweek was pretty impressed with the car, noting that it went 0-60 in 8.1 seconds and they ripped gears through the quarter mile in 16.1 seconds. That was pretty good stuff and we’re guessing this thing ran as quick or quicker than a V6 Camaro and with a good driver could likely run 15s if the weather was right. That’s pretty wicked for 1991.
A weight of a shade over 3,000lbs, 16-inch wheels, and a performance tuned suspension were other hallmarks of the car.
Anyone out there ever own a stick shift Z34? Seems like they were a pretty hot ticket!

The Earthmovers: This 1944 Film Celebrating The Seabees In WWII Is Absolutely Awesome
“Some guys want a Jeep after the war…brother, give me a bulldozer!” This is one of about 100 great lines in this 1944 war department film called “The Earthmovers” which celebrate the accomplishments, hard work, creativity, and incredible efficiency of the Seabees during various campaigns of WWII. The other thing it celebrates is the hard work and great equipment being produced on the American home front. There’s other great lines about sea power, air power, fire power, and WORK POWER which is what this whole film celebrates.
The highlights include footage of ports being reopened, beached being breached, airfields being constructed, bridges being built, and even a few seconds of video featuring a runway being handbuilt by Chinese workers in a fashion that seems to actual predate the existence of the airplane.
There’s a great clip of a mobile service unit where a machinist is using a lathe to take some material off of a shaft of some type.
We love this video because it celebrates not only the mechanical stuff that the Seabees were sing but also it celebrates something that is too often lost in WWII history. That’s the fact that it was work that underpinned the Allies successful efforts to defeat the Axis. Sounds dumb to say but without the work ethic of the generation. Without the idea of quality, pride, and function, the war would have been lost.
“You can just about anything with a bulldozer other than shave,” another gem from the film that every history loving gearhead is sure to enjoy.

Battle of The ’50s Ballers: This Video Pits The 1957 Imperial vs The 1957 Cadillac 62
We love these 1950s promotional videos because they all follow along the same line. There are moments where they’re educational, moments where they are completely ridiculous, and (to us anyway) they’re entertaining as hell from tip to stern.
When it comes to spending as much money as you could spend on a domestic car in 1957 (and there were pretty much ONLY domestic cars in 1957) few could suck a wallet dry faster than a Chrysler Imperial or a Cadillac 62. We’re kind of surprised that the 1957 Lincoln Continental was not included here but perhaps they had not hit the showrooms yet by the time this film was made.
As we can see the engineers are dressed as if they are going ice fishing so we can surmise that this was made very early in the 1957 year. Typically the new cars were coming out in the fall for the next year at this time so it makes sense that they’d snatch a Cadillac up quick and then get to work as far as the comparison testing.
It’s impossible to deny that the Imperial was the more wildly awesome styled part of this pair. The both have their benefits but the Imperial was inches lower than the Caddy, it had those wild canted fins at the rear and was more than half a foot longer than the already gargantuan Cadillac.
This whole thing is awesome. The tip of the spear for performance and luxury in 1957 going head to head!

Watch Jet Car Racer Brian Mitchell Put On A Massive And Completely Unplanned Fire Show At Great Lakes Dragaway
If you have spent any time at the drags you have likely watched a jet dragster or a jet funny car make a run. There’s smoke, there’s fire, there’s that familiar shrill scream as the afterburner lights and the car swooshes down the track. These cars have put more butts into more seats at tracks since 1960 than literally anything else ever created. 99 times out of 100 things go according to plan. This is not one of those times. Jet Car racer Brian Mitchell and his machine star in this video and the did not put on the show they were expecting.
What you are going to see is a fan video made directly next to the track. Pay close attention right around the 1:00 mark as the crew plugs the car in and starts to spin the engine up. Immediately upon doing that you will see fuel begin to pour from the back of it like a fire hose. You can do the math on what happens next here.
The engine lights and the next thing you know there is a lake of fire behind the car. The crew person closest to the camera does not seem to comprehend what is happening but another guy rushes to the driver’s side window of the car and seems to be talking Mitchell out of the fun car.
Amazingly Mitchell gets out of the car grabs the water box hose and begins trying to extinguish the blaze behind his car! Shortly thereafter the fire extinguishers get the problem solved in a hurry. Because jets are supposed to make fire, we’re thinking that people assumed this was all part of the act. It was not. Thankfully the fire did not move forward and Mitchell did not find himself in the same predicament as Bob Motz did a few years back in his big jet truck.
You never know what is going to happen in drag racing and this is further proof.

All Of Our David Whealon IMSA Photos Are Right Here! Check Out All The Action.
Here are all our IMSA photos from David Whealon. If you missed any of them, you are in luck because the link below will take you to all of them.
(Photos by David Whealon) – There are a load of single car series that get contested around the world. Porsche’s Carrera Cup finally made it to US shores to be sanctioned by IMSA and the 2021 season has been fantastic. The cars are very equal so it really does come down to driver ability. Series like this, the Lamborghini Super Trofeo series, Ferrari Challenge Series, and others are cool because they provide a place for aspiring drivers to get experience and established drivers to throw down on at a very professional level.
There are 10 international Porsche Carrera Cups contested around the globe in different large countries. There are other series supported in a regional basis as well across the world. If there are three tiers of Porsche factory supported series the Carrera cup sits in the middle. The Supercup, which is an international series is the highest rung on the ladder.
If you love Porsche Carreras you are going to love these photos of them being used as they were designed to be!
