I made this sideblog in 2021, during a time I felt alone in my experiences as a deshi muslim bisexual neurodivergent twenty-something international university student in the US with an interreligious, long-distance bi4bi sapphic relationship. (Phew, now isn’t that a laundry list of minoritised identities?! If I were a character in a movie, they’d not only say I was there only for token representation, but also that I was entirely mythical in my intersectional existance.)

It alienated me to not see myself represented in the online mainstream. This formed a vicious cycle with my imposter syndrome and my internalised homophobia—neither of which is talked about enough—as a newly minted member of the (often precarious and fraught) deshi LGBTQ+ community. I wanted a space to share my complex whirlwind of emotions having come to terms “later” in life as queer and neurodivergent, and being caught squarely between cultures. At the time, my mental health was at its poorest I’ve ever experienced, and I didn’t feel like I had a place to belong. Maybe someone would relate to my disjointed journal entries, and reblog my posts. We would find each other, and a community would be born.

I’ve since realised that community already exists, and I’ve been so fortunate to find it in real life as well as online. I made desi/Muslim queer friends online, and I made other multicultural queer friends in person in the US where I was going to university. But the most transformative experience for me was attending a (newly minted and the first of its kind in surrounding states!) LGBTQ+ Muslims organisation meeting in person.

There truly, truly is no unique human experience, and for me, learning that has been the most wonderous comfort. As the years passed—2022, 2023, and then 2024—I realised I had, unbeknownst to myself, weaned off Tumblr and would instead vent and chat in the Discord servers I share with LGBTQ+ university friends. (If you followed me for my yapping/reblogs and then somehow noticed I got real quiet—well, that’s what happened. A happy ending. <3) There was something incredibly bittersweet about that revelation.

It’s miraculous how my outlook has changed as I’ve grown a little older. I’m turning twenty-five soon, and as I bid farewell to my early twenties, I look forward to more of my pressing life questions to turn out to not be a big deal at all, once I have a better grasp of myself and my surroundings.

In the meantime, I’m still here! A bit sparsely as of late, but I have many more stories to share (lifted straight out of my Discord musings) and wacky reblogs coming your way. This account garnered more followers than I ever thought it might, and I’m so grateful for anybody who thought my silly Tumblr activity was worth following. Love you all and belated happy Gregorian new year!

trying to decide which cake to get for my birthday this year

When you turn 25, there's a constant battle between having absolute freedom and settling down.

And by that, I don't mean exploring avenues or getting married.

The battle is having to choose between eating an ice-cream with a bowl & spoon OR a mug & fingers.

Or maybe choosing between going for a late night movie or sleeping early for next morning's exercise.

Sometimes you want to have all the amenities that you can afford, and all those other times you just want enough to keep you going peacefully—with yourself by yourself.

And in all of this, nothing's right and nothing's wrong. It is just is, whatever it is.

We just want what feels good in the moment. Maybe the battles, of any kind, are meant to make you feel good in the end. Or maybe not.

I think I was supposed to change since then, but maybe I should never have to.

Maybe I still am the same person, not changing, although growing.

progress is non-linear

you don’t have to have everything figured out yet

it’s never to late to try again

things get better

life is made up of the small things

loving yourself is a radical act

growing old is beautiful

there’s always more to learn

you can’t choose your circumstances but you can choose your actions

enjoy things fully and without shame

don’t let the world make you cruel
