Considering the existence of bristle you have any other textile machinery you’ve collected? Have you ever studied how they work before?
Machinery? Well... I have a collection of equipment, but it's not all machinery, per se. You know of Bristle the drum carder. Then there's Bug, the pocket wheel and Nornir, my antique wheel (inherited from my family, built as early as 1865). I have an espinner that I have yet to name. Just picked up a Ladybug (another castle style, smaller wheel who I need to name). I have a set of hand carders and hand combs plus a blending board. And I think... 6 drop spindles (2 Turkish and 4 top whorl). Oh, and looms! One small tapestry loom and an inkle loom a friend gifted me.
I haven't explicitly studied how they work, but a lot of fiber equipment isn't really that complicated until you get to the industrial/fiber mill stuff. Things turn or brush or comb to move fiber the way you want (organized neatly into top, less neatly into roving or batts, rolled into tube aka rolags, then twist into yarn).

When and why did the Islamic world lose the scientific edge it once had?
The when is easy. The 14th & 15th Century Renaissance when the Europeans rose to be dominant
The why is far more interesting.
The fourteenth century Arab culture was the pinnacle of civilization. Women had rights and were an equal partner in knowledge and the running society. Prosperity (relatively) abound, warring factions were more or less united. But..
The Arabs were excellent on theoretical knowledge, trade and mobile equipment. Now that makes sense, because the empire was vast. Imagine an empire 3x of Europe, from Jerusalem to the borders of India (modern day Pakistan). They needed mobile knowledge, that could be transmitted via trade routes.
Once heavy machinery came into common practice, the Arab method was obselete. They couldn’t have a particular base, because their empire was based on movement. The society was extensively nomadic. And heavy machinery didn't work it for nomads.
Heavy equipment was the challenge, and resulted in a slow but gradual decay.
For example, Islamic calligraphers were sought the world over for copying books and texts. A vastly profitable & respectable position. But the advent of the printing press made them obsolete
No development of port based infrastructure along the desert, because they preferred the silk route. But being in proximity to European development ensured that the closer segments (Turkish empire/Iran) split up from the main culture and focused on localized development. Other examples:
Ginning equipment and textile mills rendered embroidery obselete
Steam engines rendered traditional carts obsolete
Steel milling rendered smithies obsolete
Focus was starting to grow on mining practices, which the Islamic world knew nothing about (crude oil was still a few centuries off)
Prefabrication of building materials rendered their architecture outdated
By the time the European industrialization took over, the fall of the Islamic world was imminent and certain.

So we got to the factory and met the Turkish family company ppl that we had met in Vegas. N it’s like silly that I’m thwre bc of course im like a kid and like have no involvement in this n like yeah I’m just always there. So then we were in this like conference room for like two hours I’d say? Maybe more and like they were obv talking about business n shit n I don’t understand half of it so I’m zoned out most of the time thibking about u. Did I tell u about how I thought about about that time I ran away to u😭 I just don’t know if I alr talked about it n I don’t wanna repeat myself. Ok so yeah I was just there n like whatever and they were always offering Turkish tea or Turkish coffee and I loveeee Turkish tea it’s soooo good I just know u would like it I’ll try to buy u some. I took a pic of it for u and they also gave us son Turkish snacks n they were yummy I think u would like them but they were good I just don’t like nuts at all. It reminded me that i wanted to eat Colombian empanadas with uuuu😩😩😩 So then they gave us a tour of the favors which was like an hour n a half it was rlly cool it reminded me so much of my grandpas factory in Colombia I wish I could take u there n like I rmb they would put me to “work”in the factory but all I ever did was like sort some cables or smth just so they could keep me busy n shit. But yes I’d love for u to come. So yes ok so there were sooooo many puzzles everywhere like on the walls like paintings u can see In Some of the pictures I sent. So basically the owner was the one who made all of em he loves puzzles n they’re huge n there was like thirty of them hung. So ofc he was my grandpas age and then their sons were like my moms age and then they have a son who is my age around but he wasn’t there n like ofc it’s just like Ik we don’t give a fucj we too young n whatever. He is in college in amstwrdamn n I kept thinking about us visiting there it would be soooo good. So yes then we went down to the factory on the first floor oh wait we went to the top floor first that was the view it’s so cool. So basically where the factory is is an area where only automotive companies can be so alllll of that area is auto part companies which is cool as fuck to me like a land with only factories and only auto part factories. Well turkey is the country with the best and biggest auto part like industry. It used to be textiles but I think it’s now china or somewhere in Asia. But I’m pretty sure it’s china. This factory supplies to European ford and Renault. That’s called smth like oem Idk what it stands for but yes that means like to the automotive company’s themselves and then there’s another one that’s called after market and so in the auto parts industry it’s either oem or after market. So this company was oem and ours is after market which means to places like o Reilly and other popular ones I forgot the name of. Basically we’re not as “successful”? As them id say? I think they have like more and stuff but it’s all by region so basically they’re rlly good in turkey and in Europe and so ours is like “America” and in Colombia Ik it’s like a “leading” auto part company. But I mean it’s just Colombia. So basically what everyone wants is a “door” to America. Everyone wants to get into the United States industry like that’s why hay everyone wants. If ur in the United States and leading that means ur very successful. And my mom I’ve told u before is in charge of that. My grandpas company is in Colombia but she is like in charge of like the distribution in the United States I’ve kinda mentioned that before. I’m rlly just trynna explain what I understood😭 so Ik I’ve also told u that they want to make a factory in Mexico rmb we talked about monte rey? That ur parents could move there? So the thing is u probably know what nafta is already but if u don’t just know case idk if it’s like an American thing I learned in like middle skl😭 but it means North American free trade agreement and basically Canadá United States and mexico Can trade without like tariffs n stuff. N that’s why “we” don’t like china like

Flights from Toronto to India: Popular cities
India, with its rich cultural heritage, diverse landscapes, and booming urban centers, remains a top destination for travelers from all over the world. Among Canadian travelers, the routes from Toronto to major Indian cities like Delhi, Mumbai, and Ahmedabad are particularly popular. Whether for business, leisure, or reconnecting with family, these routes see a steady stream of passengers. Let’s explore the various options for flying from Toronto to these bustling Indian metropolises.
Toronto to Delhi
Delhi, the capital of India, is a major hub for travelers visiting the northern parts of the country. It's a city that offers a perfect blend of ancient history and modern development. From the magnificent Red Fort to the contemporary Connaught Place, Delhi has something for everyone.
Travelers from Toronto to Delhi can expect multiple flight options, both direct and connecting. Air Canada and Air India are two airlines offering direct flights between Toronto Pearson International Airport (YYZ) and Indira Gandhi International Airport (DEL). Direct flights typically take around 14 to 16 hours, making it the quickest way to travel between the two cities.
For travelers preferring connecting flights, airlines like Emirates, Qatar Airways, and British Airways provide one-stop options with layovers in cities such as Dubai, Doha, or London. Connecting flights may take longer, but they sometimes offer cheaper fares or allow passengers to enjoy a short stay in a different country before heading to India.
When planning a trip from Toronto to Delhi, it’s advisable to book tickets in advance, especially during peak travel seasons like Diwali, Christmas, or New Year's Eve. These seasons see a surge in passenger numbers and prices can increase accordingly.
Toronto to Mumbai
Mumbai, often referred to as the financial capital of India, is a dynamic city that never sleeps. Home to Bollywood, major corporate headquarters, and stunning seafronts, Mumbai is a favored destination for both tourists and business travelers alike.
When flying from Toronto to Mumbai, Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (BOM) serves as the primary gateway. Similar to the Toronto-Delhi route, Air Canada and Air India provide direct flights, covering the distance in around 14 to 16 hours. For travelers looking for luxury and comfort, the business class options on these direct flights are worth considering, offering flatbeds, gourmet meals, and excellent service.
Connecting flights from Toronto to Mumbai are also readily available, with airlines like Lufthansa, Etihad Airways, and Turkish Airlines offering layovers in Frankfurt, Abu Dhabi, or Istanbul. Connecting flights can range from 18 to 24 hours in duration, depending on the length of the layover. One benefit of flying with these carriers is the opportunity to experience their renowned hospitality, as well as the possibility of exploring another city en route.
Mumbai is a year-round destination, but if you're visiting during the monsoon season from June to September, expect heavy rainfall. The best time to fly to Mumbai is between November and February, when the weather is cooler and more pleasant.
Toronto to Ahmedabad
Ahmedabad, the largest city in the state of Gujarat, is known for its rich cultural heritage, textile industry, and as the birthplace of Mahatma Gandhi. It’s a popular destination for Gujarati expatriates living in Canada who travel back to reconnect with their roots, attend family functions, or simply explore the vibrant local culture.
For flights from Toronto to Ahmedabad, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport (AMD) is the main entry point. Unlike Delhi and Mumbai, there are no direct flights to Ahmedabad from Toronto. However, many airlines offer convenient one-stop and two-stop flights with layovers in cities like London, Doha, or Dubai. Etihad Airways, Emirates, and Qatar Airways are some of the top airlines providing connections on this route.
A typical one-stop flight from Toronto to Ahmedabad can take anywhere from 18 to 22 hours. Travelers often prefer these routes due to their smooth connections and high-quality service. For those looking for affordable fares, early bookings and flexible travel dates are key, especially during high-demand times such as Navratri or the Gujarati New Year.
Ahmedabad is a culturally rich city, famous for its festivals, including the International Kite Festival and Diwali. For the best experience, visit between November and February when the weather is mild and perfect for sightseeing.
Travel Tips for Flights from Toronto to India
Book Early: Tickets to India, especially during festive seasons, can become pricey. Booking well in advance ensures that you secure the best deals.
Check Luggage Allowances: Depending on the airline, baggage allowances can vary. Make sure to check the airline’s policies before packing to avoid extra fees.
Plan for Layovers: If you’re flying with a connecting flight, choose a layover city that offers a good airport experience. Some travelers even prefer layovers that allow them to step out and explore cities like Dubai or London for a few hours.
Stay Hydrated: Long-haul flights can be dehydrating. Keep water handy and avoid too much caffeine or alcohol to stay refreshed during the journey.
Flying from Toronto to India offers numerous options in terms of convenience, price, and layovers. Whether you're headed to the political heart of Delhi, the bustling streets of Mumbai, or the vibrant culture of Ahmedabad, the journey promises to be comfortable and filled with excitement

Hotel Textiles: Elevating Guest Comfort with Premium Products
In the hospitality industry, guest satisfaction hinges on one key factor: comfort. Nothing speaks more to the comfort of a hotel stay than the quality of its textiles. From the softness of the sheets to the fluffiness of the pillows, every detail matters when creating an exceptional guest experience. The textiles used in hotels not only serve a practical purpose but also contribute to the overall ambiance and luxury of the room. In this article, we’ll explore the essential hotel textile products that enhance comfort and quality, elevating any guest stay to new heights.
Bed Sheets
The bed sheet is the cornerstone of any hotel bedding experience. High-quality bed sheets for hotel made from luxurious fabrics such as Egyptian cotton or microfiber provide a smooth, inviting surface for guests to relax on. The thread count, softness, and durability of bed sheets directly impact the comfort level of a hotel bed. Crisp, clean, and well-fitted bed sheets are a must for any establishment aiming to provide the ultimate in rest and relaxation. Hotels often opt for neutral tones or white sheets, exuding cleanliness and luxury while being easy to launder and maintain.
Towels
When it comes to towels for hotel, hotels must strike a balance between softness, absorbency, and durability. Towels should feel plush and luxurious, drying the skin efficiently while retaining their quality after multiple washes. High-end hotels often use towels made from combed cotton or Turkish cotton, known for their superior softness and absorbency. Whether it’s a bath towel, hand towel, or face cloth, these textiles contribute significantly to a guest's perception of the hotel’s attention to detail and commitment to providing comfort.
Duvet Filling
The duvet filling for hotel is another essential component in creating a cozy sleeping environment. A good duvet filling can make the difference between a restless night and a comfortable, peaceful sleep. Duvets filled with down, feathers, or high-quality synthetic materials like microfiber offer warmth and insulation without feeling too heavy. Hotels often choose fillings based on seasonality, providing lightweight options for summer and heavier fillings for colder months. A premium duvet ensures guests are snug and comfortable throughout the night, adding to the overall luxury of their stay.
Blankets
Blankets for hotel serve both functional and decorative purposes in a hotel room. They offer an extra layer of warmth for guests who may need it, while also enhancing the room’s aesthetics when neatly folded at the foot of the bed. Many hotels opt for wool, fleece, or cotton blankets due to their softness and thermal properties. In addition to keeping guests warm, blankets can also complement the room’s décor, adding a touch of elegance and comfort.
Pillows
A hotel’s pillows play a crucial role in ensuring a restful night’s sleep. Providing a selection of pillow types—such as firm, medium, and soft—caters to different sleeping preferences, whether guests sleep on their back, side, or stomach. Pillows filled with down, memory foam, or hypoallergenic materials ensure both comfort and support. The right pillow can reduce neck strain and improve sleep quality, making it an essential element of any hotel’s bedding ensemble.
Mattress Covers
Mattress covers for Hotels are vital for protecting the mattress from stains, dust, and wear and tear, extending the life of the mattress. These covers are typically made from durable yet breathable fabrics that provide a barrier against allergens and spills without compromising on comfort. In the hotel industry, mattress covers are a practical investment that not only protects expensive mattresses but also enhances the guest experience by maintaining hygiene and cleanliness in the bedroom.
Mattress Protectors
While similar to mattress covers, mattress protectors for hotels go a step further in safeguarding the mattress against potential damage from liquids, allergens, and bacteria. Waterproof and hypoallergenic protectors are often preferred in hotels, ensuring that the mattress remains in pristine condition while offering guests a cleaner and healthier sleeping environment. These protectors are a discreet layer of defense, providing peace of mind for both the hotel and its guests.
Pillowcases
Pillowcases for hotels are more than just a functional necessity—they are a critical component of the bedding’s overall aesthetic and comfort. Typically made from the same material as the bed sheets, pillowcases should feel soft and inviting against the skin. High-thread-count cotton or silk pillowcases are often favored in luxury hotels, offering a smooth, breathable surface that enhances the guest's sleep experience. Properly maintained and regularly replaced pillowcases contribute significantly to hygiene and comfort.
Cushion Filling
Decorative cushions add personality and style to hotel rooms, but the comfort of these accents depends largely on the quality of the cushion filling for hotels. Hotels commonly use fillings such as down, feathers, or polyester fibers to provide a plush, supportive feel. Cushion fillings should strike a balance between firmness and softness, making the cushions not only visually appealing but also functional for added support when guests are relaxing or lounging in their rooms.
Bed Base Cover
The bed base cover for hotel is often an overlooked textile, but it plays an important role in completing the look of the bed. Also known as a bed skirt or valance, the bed base cover conceals the box spring or bed frame, giving the bed a neat and polished appearance. It adds a layer of sophistication to the room and is typically made from durable yet elegant materials such as cotton or linen. By coordinating the bed base cover with the rest of the room’s textiles, hotels create a cohesive and visually appealing bedroom environment.
Conclusion
The importance of high-quality textiles in the hotel industry cannot be overstated. From the crispness of bed sheets to the luxurious feel of towels, every textile in a hotel room contributes to the overall guest experience. Comfort, hygiene, and durability are key factors that hotel management must consider when selecting these essential items. With the right combination of premium textiles, hotels can provide their guests with an unparalleled level of comfort, ensuring that every stay is memorable for all the right reasons. Investing in top-quality hotel textile is not just about enhancing the physical space—it’s about creating an atmosphere of luxury, relaxation, and ultimate guest satisfaction.

The automotive, textile, and electronics sectors are expected to drive the bulk of this growth.
The Turkish government has implemented several policies to support exporters, including financial incentives and digital platforms that simplify trade processes. These measures have helped Turkish businesses access global markets more easily. Additionally, Turkey’s focus on renewable energy and green technologies is opening new opportunities for export growth in the energy sector.
Challenges and Opportunities in 2024
While Turkey’s export economy continues to grow, it faces challenges such as global inflation, rising energy costs, and supply chain disruptions. However, Turkey’s competitive pricing, driven by the devaluation of the Turkish lira, has made its products more attractive to international buyers.
New free trade agreements with African and Asian nations are also set to expand Turkey’s market access. Investments in renewable energy, particularly solar and wind power, are expected to create new export opportunities in the coming years. Furthermore, Turkey’s efforts to reduce carbon emissions in its manufacturing processes will enhance its global competitiveness.
Conclusion
Turkey’s export sector in 2024 is a testament to the country’s resilience and adaptability in the face of global challenges. With strong performances in automotive, textiles, electronics, and agriculture, Turkey has maintained its position as a vital player in the global market. Quality Control: How Bulk Towels Suppliers Ensure Consistency
Introduction
In the competitive world of hospitality, healthcare, and other industries reliant on high-quality linens, the consistency of bulk towel supplies is paramount. Bulk towels suppliers play a critical role in maintaining this consistency, ensuring that each towel meets the required standards. Here's how they do it.
Rigorous Material Selection
The foundation of a high-quality towel lies in its material. Bulk towel suppliers start by sourcing the finest raw materials, primarily focusing on high-grade cotton. Egyptian and Turkish cotton are popular choices due to their long fibers, which contribute to the durability and softness of the towels. By establishing strong relationships with reputable cotton growers, suppliers ensure a steady supply of top-quality materials.
Standardized Manufacturing Processes
Consistency in towel quality is achieved through standardized manufacturing processes. Suppliers implement strict guidelines and protocols at every stage of production, from spinning the cotton into yarn to weaving the fabric and finishing the towels. Advanced machinery and technology play a significant role in maintaining these standards, reducing human error, and ensuring uniformity across large batches.
Stringent Quality Checks
Quality control doesn't end with standardized production. Bulk towels suppliers employ rigorous quality checks throughout the manufacturing process. This includes inspecting the yarn for consistency, checking the weave for uniformity, and ensuring the towels are free from defects such as loose threads or uneven edges. These checks are often performed manually by trained quality control inspectors, who meticulously examine each towel to ensure it meets the supplier’s standards.
Lab Testing for Performance
Beyond visual inspections, many suppliers conduct lab testing to ensure the towels perform as expected. These tests evaluate various factors such as absorbency, colorfastness, and shrinkage. By simulating real-world use and washing conditions, suppliers can verify that their towels will hold up over time, maintaining their appearance and functionality even after multiple washes.
Continuous Improvement
Leading bulk towels suppliers are committed to continuous improvement. They regularly review their processes and quality control measures to identify areas for enhancement. Feedback from customers is crucial in this regard, as it helps suppliers understand how their products perform in real-world settings and where they can make adjustments to meet evolving customer needs.
Certification and Compliance
To further ensure quality, many suppliers seek certifications from recognized organizations. Certifications such as OEKO-TEX® Standard 100, which verifies that textiles are free from harmful substances, provide additional assurance to customers about the safety and quality of the towels. Compliance with international standards also helps suppliers maintain consistency and reliability in their products.
Conclusion
Ensuring consistency in bulk towels is a complex process that involves rigorous material selection, standardized manufacturing, stringent quality checks, lab testing, and a commitment to continuous improvement. By adhering to these principles, bulk towels suppliers can deliver high-quality, reliable products that meet the demands of their customers in various industries. Whether for a luxury hotel or a bustling hospital, consistent quality in towels is crucial, and suppliers play a vital role in achieving this standard.

Iranian Carpets
Iranian carpets, commonly known as Persian carpets, are celebrated globally for their superior quality, intricate designs, and profound cultural significance. Integral to Iranian culture for over 2,500 years, these carpets symbolize luxury and artistry, gracing homes and collections worldwide.
Historical Significance
The roots of Iranian carpets trace back to ancient Persia, where they initially served practical purposes such as providing warmth and comfort. Over the centuries, these carpets transformed into an esteemed art form, mirroring the cultural, religious, and social dimensions of Persian life. The oldest known Persian carpet, the Pazyryk Carpet from the 5th century BCE, showcases the advanced weaving techniques and sophisticated designs of ancient Persian artisans.
Craftsmanship and Techniques
Creating an Iranian carpet is a labor-intensive and intricate process. Traditionally hand-woven, the creation of these carpets can span from several months to years, depending on the size and complexity of the design. The primary materials used are wool, silk, and cotton, chosen for their durability and aesthetic appeal. Wool is the most common material, valued for its resilience and softness, while silk is used for finer, more luxurious pieces.
The weaving process begins with loom preparation, followed by meticulous knot tying. The two main types of knots are the Persian (Senneh) knot and the Turkish (Ghiordes) knot. The Persian knot is asymmetrical, allowing for detailed and intricate patterns, whereas the Turkish knot is symmetrical, providing greater durability.
Designs and Patterns
Iranian carpets are renowned for their diverse designs and patterns, often imbued with deep symbolic meanings. Common motifs include floral patterns, geometric shapes, and pictorial scenes. Each region in Iran boasts its unique style and design characteristics. For instance, carpets from Tabriz are known for their intricate floral designs and high knot density, while those from Kerman often feature elaborate medallions and a broad range of colors.
The use of natural dyes is another hallmark of Iranian carpets. Derived from plants, insects, and minerals, these dyes provide a rich and varied color palette. Dyeing the yarn is an art in itself, requiring knowledge of local flora and a keen eye for color blending.
Cultural and Economic Impact
Iranian carpets are more than decorative items; they are cultural artifacts representing the history and identity of the Persian people. They frequently appear in Persian literature, poetry, and folklore, symbolizing beauty, wealth, and status. The craftsmanship and designs are passed down through generations, preserving traditional techniques while allowing for innovation and evolution.
Economically, the carpet industry significantly contributes to Iran's economy, providing employment for millions. Carpets are one of Iran's major exports, highly valued in international markets for their quality and artistry. The demand for authentic Iranian carpets remains robust despite competition from machine-made and cheaper alternatives.
Conclusion
Iranian carpets epitomize the artistic heritage and cultural richness of Persia. Each carpet tells a story, woven through time with skilled hands and a profound appreciation for beauty and craftsmanship. Admired for their aesthetic appeal, historical significance, and cultural symbolism, Iranian carpets continue to be treasured worldwide. They stand as a testament to the enduring legacy of Persian artistry and the timeless allure of finely crafted textiles.

Emphasis on energy for Monforts at ITM in Istanbul
Monforts, which is celebrating its 140th anniversary this year, will exhibit a Montex stenter chamber with an integrated overhead heat recovery unit at the forthcoming ITM textile machinery exhibition in Istanbul from June 4-8.
The heat recovery unit on display at the stand of Monforts partner Neotek (1116B in Hall 11) is just one of a range of energy-saving options the company is now providing for both new and existing line installations and will be pleased to discuss at the show.
Monforts Montex stenters and Thermex dyeing ranges are industry standards for the fabric finishing industry, providing many advantages in terms of production throughput and especially in energy efficiency and savings.
“Investment in new technology and capacity expansions are very important to our Turkish customers, in order to stay ahead in terms of sustainable, high-quality production,” says Monforts Area Sales Manager Thomas Paeffgen. “We find that they carefully assess the benefits of each advanced new technology in order to thrive in a sector that is constantly changing and as a result, have adopted ongoing strategies of continuous investment.”
Complete control
Recent Monfort installations in Turkey have included an eight-chamber Montex stenter at the Bursa plant of Ilay Textile – a leader in new printing techniques and technologies, with customers across Europe and a database of over 40,000 apparel design patterns.
“The Montex installation is providing us with much-improved control options for all process parameters and we are particularly impressed with the energy savings we are making,” says the company’s production director Fikri Savaş.
Istanbul Boyahanesi’s plant in Çerkezköy meanwhile now benefits from a Monforts Thermex Econtrol continuous dyeing line.
“The Thermex has allowed us to get down to fabric weights of 80gsm while considerably shortening processing times for heavier fabrics, considerably expanding our product offering,” comments co-company founder and director Kemal Taşkin. “It’s an extremely versatile range, allowing us to instantly see the results and to easily move between reactive and disperse dyeing, for example.”
Arta in Çorlu, an accredited supplier to leading European retail brands such as Marks & Spencer, H&M, Inditex and Top Shop has also adopted the Thermex system.
“It provides us with a far wider range of fabric finishes and surface effects than we can achieve compared to our competitors,” says Arta plant manager Mehmet Kaan Kalipçioĝlu.
Another Bursa-based operation, Altun Tekstil, a leader in home textiles and furnishing fabrics, has just commissioned the first Montex®Coat coating system in Turkey.
coaTTex
At ITM, Monforts will also introduce its very latest coaTTex coating unit exclusively dedicated to air knife and knife-over-roller coating. For single-sided application with paste or foam, the versatile coaTTex is suitable for both incorporation into existing finishing ranges as well as installation with new Monforts lines, especially Montex stenter systems.
Central location
“In Turkey we are very strongly supported by our representative Neotek, our solution partner on the ground for service, installation, and commissioning, providing specialized and rapid help to all of our customers,” says Thomas Paeffgen. “ITM is always one of the most important exhibitions for Monforts, for meeting customers not just from Turkey, but across the Middle East and Central Asia, as well as Bangladesh, India, and Pakistan.
“Istanbul’s centralized position makes it accessible to the majority of the major textile manufacturing hubs and as we mark our 140th anniversary in 2024, having been founded back in 1884, the ITM show will provide us with the ideal opportunity to celebrate with colleagues and customers all together in one location.”

Crafting With Kantha A Stitch In Time The Wishing Chair
SHOP TALKDESIGN
For those who haven’t encountered the raw, indigenous simplicity of Kantha – a speciality of the Bolpur Santiniketan region in West Bengal in India, hailed as one among the more creative styles of desi embroidery – let this writer be the first to tell you, that to start collecting it, is to be indeterminately hooked to procuring more and more.
Source: Pinterest
The humble running stitch can be seen today, effortlessly gracing ramps, working its way into haute couture labels, and for some, is the crown jewel in their personal collection of beautiful textiles. To think, that it all began when housewives in Bengal decided to mend a tear, upcycle old or worn fabric by embroidering traditional motifs over it, and padding together patchwork, layering and quilting to create warm rajais for the winter months, boggles the mind. And yet, those are in fact, its origins.
A Runaway Success Story
The association of women with textiles and threadwork is as old as time: Penelope who spent her days weaving her husband Odysseus’ shroud only to unravel the day’s work by night, to keep unwanted suitors at bay; Turkish brides who wove Kilims that were part story, part demonstration of their skills with the needle and part their own dowry; Victorian women whose nimble threadwork adorned everything from curtains to cushions to handkerchiefs, the courtly clothes of the rich and famous or the uniforms of service personnel – you name it – piece after identical piece produced in staggering detail, meeting impeccable standards, yet on an industrial scale… the list is seemingly inexhaustible.
Source: Pinterest
It is from this diverse history of prodigious and firmly feminine craftsmanship, that the chronicling of Kantha too may be culled. Classical Kantha, just like needlework in so many other cultures, is often a deeply personal expression of everyday experience, telling stories using folk motifs, that are as elaborate and complex, or as straightforward and soothing, as the storyteller may choose.
Needles To Say
Today, the best examples of the unassuming running stitch being given a modern day spin – a facelift if you will – until it sits ever so graceful and poised in it’s own unpretentious skin, among the hip, the impossibly elegant and dazzlingly chic, are seen when it’s pared down to its bare bones.
Customary muslin cloth finds itself replaced by soft, pristine white cotton that can be hand washed easily. Colourful embroidery threads or yarn, replace faded gossamer drawn from old sari borders, affording the finished product so much more resilience. Geometric patterns, a mix of vertical and horizontal multi-coloured lines that run parallel while also juxtaposed with each other, simple square patterns nesting in bigger squares, matryoshka doll-like – each and every one of these variants work beautifully to add a little bit of indo-fusion charm to even the most contemporary homes.
Let us help you choose the simplest way to flaunt your love for Indian handlooms and the arts. Do the crafty thing and add subtle décor accents – quilts and cushion covers in a modern, minimal bedroom for instance – make instant and complete sense. This is the stuff that dreams and makeovers are made of.
