Tengri, central to ancient Turkic and Mongolic beliefs, was revered as the sky deity embodying the vastness of the heavens. Unlike many gods in organized religions, Tengri was not depicted through idols or worshipped in temples. Instead, Tengriism was deeply rooted in nature, with the open sky serving as his dwelling. Followers of Tengri believed in his omnipresence and omniscience, invoking him as a witness during oaths or as a guide before major events like battles. Leaders and warriors would pray to Tengri on mountain summits or in seclusion, calling upon his strength and protection.
Tengri’s favor or displeasure was thought to be reflected through natural phenomena. Sudden weather changes, storms, or other natural signs were interpreted as his responses to human actions, underscoring the belief that Tengri maintained a watchful gaze over the world. This connection to the natural world and the cosmos formed the core of Tengriism, shaping the spiritual lives and cultural values of early Central Asian societies.

The story of Asena
This is a highly well-known Turkic mythological story in the countries with tengrist background. According to the old sources (the Book of Sui, Book of Zhou and History of the Northern Dynasties) and myths that lived many centuries in the Turkic society, The Legend of Asena tells of a young boy who survived after being amputated by a Chinese commander during the raid of his village; the Chinese commander left the boy in a mud to make him die slowly. All of his people were already killed and the boy was waiting for his end desperately. Shortly after a female wolf -which is called Asena or Achina- found the injured child and nursed him back to health with her wolf milk. Many seasons later, the boy became a young man and Asena got pregnant by him to save and continue the Turkic tribes and dynasties. However, the rumors about the surviving boy travelled beyond the far foreign lands and the Chinese commander -who was informed about the surviving boy - returned back to the same place to finish his job. He found the man, whom he had amputated many years before, near a wolf cave and he killed him right away. When he tried to reach the growling female wolf, he couldn’t match with her swiftness. Pregnant Asena escaped from the commander and ran as far as she could until the northern mountains. She crossed the Western Sea and found a new cave near the Qocho Mountains (nowadays called Gaochang). It was also close to a city of Tocharians. In that cave, she gave birth to ten half-wolf, half-human boys. One of these sons, who was called Ashina like his mother, became his siblings’ leader and created his own Ashina Clan, which ruled over the Göktürk and the other Turkic nomadic empires. That is why Proto-Turkic people believed that they are coming from wolves and the female wolf is still the most sacred animal for many countries with tengrist heritage.

I'd love for you to write a his dark materials/shadow and bone crossover
Ah, there are several ways I'd love to do this, and there's so many different ways it could be mashed up!
The Grishaverse with daemons is the easiest, but then I'd have to try and find everyone the perfect daemon. Animal symbology!!!
Or Alina and Mal growing up at Jordan College, with Aleksander Morozov as her aloof and volatile guardian and Baghra as the mysterious benefactress who whisks Alina away after Mal is abducted. I don't know at the moment how all the other Grishaverse characters fit in save that Jesper is the Lee Scoresby equivalent and Kaz and Inej are Chevalier Tialys and Lady Salmakia. Fight me.
Or, if we wanted to get really complicated, a bit more of a mashup between the worlds, with both Grisha powers and daemons. The persecution of the Grisha combined with the treatment of those at the mercy of the General Oblation Board. Are the Grisha like the witches of His Dark Materials? If so, are they born or do they become? What forms does your daemon tend to take if you are Grisha? What are the attitudes towards daemons, if Grisha are hunted? Is the Fold more than just darkness incarnate, something that threatens to devour all knowledge and goodness? Are the angels the Small Science made incarnate? Who, then, is the Maker? The religion of it all. And how could I make it so that Aleksander is Metatron???
*lies on the floor, all tuckered out*
It could be beautiful...
#shadow and bone#grishaverse#his dark materials#I already decided that Alina's daemon's name would be Koyash#the god of the sun in Turkic mythology#but that's all you're getting; it's too late in the night/early in the morning#also rest assured Aleksander and Baghra would still be son and mother#nothing in the grishaverse (yet) to compare to Coulter and Asriel#It's about the STRUGGLE

Perfect linguistic/culinary co-evolution of Germanic and Turkic peoples in which one party has an ancient god named Donar, after whom they name their Thursday, and the other party creates Döner, the most delicious thing on the planet, which I can now buy for cheap every week. Because it's Dönerstag. Peace and love

@turkicgods / starter call ( karter kane )
PIPE RESTS between his lips, eyes focusing on the god as he enters his domain. HE CAN only assume that he's received a visitor on behalf of the DARK FATHER and after a moment he finally speaks.
"You trek into LANDS unknown with little fear I see..."
HE TRAILS off. He's going to take a few prods to get a sense of what his purpose is here. ABOVE ALL ELSE, this was his home, he will HOLD HIMSELF strong and as eyes fall upon the other turkic god fully, the MOON'S SHIFT coming and allowing him showcase this PLACE belongs to him & him alone.
"...now what would possess a god to trek into LANDS foreign to him...so what PRAY-TELL is the crusade that drives you into my home?"
