the current trend of "tumblr users embarrassing themselves by proudly announcing why they don't listen to any music made by black people" is really astounding.
i cannot help but think this is a direct result of liberal White Guilt and how people have interpreted "anti-racism" as form of cultural self-segregation - the kind of person who thinks trying to cook chicken curry is cultural appropriation, or sends white people anon hate for wearing a kimono (yes, this kind of discourse happened). like, "oh, no, i could never participate in this culture, i'd get my evil white hands all over it! it would be more Progressive if I only did White things."
if you're a poc you've seen this, i'm sure - this deer-in-the-headlights stare you can get from white people when you play music / show art / share a story / anything that is Racially Coded, this total refusal to actually engage with it out of fear that it is in some way Wrong for them to have any opinion on it. because they read somewhere that it's bad to use AAVE but the only lesson they actually learned from that is "gotcha, white people are not allowed to interact with other cultures as punishment for my White Crimes. this helps to fill up the gaping pit of my white guilt and makes me one of the Good People." this transforms their discomfort around non-white cultures (black culture, especially, i should add) into a kind of virtue
anyway if you are white and reading this. go listen to some fucking haliu mergia. ethiopian jazz. will knock your dick right off. go listen to rap or reggae or bollywood and have a genuine reaction to it - like, an actual, from-the-heart reaction. you are allowed to not like some of it. but you will definitely like at least a little. yes, you can compare it to lemon demon (or whatever) if that helps you get into it and that's your only point of reference. maybe don't say that part out loud. but don't, like, separate yourself from it, like you are seeing it in a museum and the only polite thing to do is go "ahh, huh, very interesting, so much culture here."

it's a tragedy i think that Tumblr doesn't appreciate IGOR like it could.
it's literally the album for being in love with a straight boy. igor, the titular character, is the failfaggot of our generation. he's obsessed with this dude then the second he finds out he has a girlfriend he threatens to kill her. in one song he's yelling how he doesn't wanna see the dude again, then the literal first Iines of the next song are 'i wanna talk i wanna call you and talk'. by the end of the album he's like 'im totally over you now leave me alonneee but wait no can we be friends tho'. the album can be looped near perfectly, implying he's fallen for this dude multiple times.
he's such a relatable gay loser but tumblr doesn't love him because some of ya'll are scared of anything more rap than like tally hall

so hi if u like discovering new music & artists I just posted another one of my own original songs again!! this one is called resist it and I wanted to capture defiant self love by deciding to choose yourself over people who aren't good for you, no matter how drawn you are to them. it can be really hard, but if you just keep telling yourself to resist it then that's a huge start. It's out everywhere now & I really hope you like it :)

I can’t help but feel a sense of pride every time I think about Taehyung and the incredible recognition he’s been getting. It’s so clear to me, and to anyone who’s been paying attention, that his talent as a singer is something truly special. It’s not just about being part of BTS—Taehyung has earned his place among the best in the industry on his own merit.
One of the most amazing things to me is the collaboration with Park Hyoshin, who is one of Korea’s greatest vocalists. This man has one of the most iconic voices in K-pop, and for him to choose to work with Taehyung on his first song in five years speaks volumes. It’s not just a casual collaboration; it’s a true acknowledgment of Taehyung’s abilities as a vocalist. Hyoshin doesn’t just work with anyone, so for him to want to share the stage with Taehyung is a huge deal.
Tumblr media
And then there’s the Bing Crosby estate. That’s another huge mark of respect. The fact that Taehyung was chosen to interpret an original recording from such a legendary figure is incredible. Not every artist gets that opportunity, especially not idols in K-pop, and it’s a clear sign that Taehyung is seen as an artist with true vocal skill and artistry.
What really stands out to me is that none of this is because of anything the company has done. It’s not about being pushed by PR or media hype. These are genuine relationships and collaborations built on mutual respect for Taehyung’s voice and talent. His peers in the industry—whether it’s Park Hyoshin or the people at the Bing Crosby estate—see something in him that’s undeniable. They recognize his artistry, and that’s something that can’t be faked or manufactured.
Tumblr media
It’s frustrating when people still try to downplay Taehyung’s skills or call him a “subvocalist” in BTS, because the truth is, his talent speaks for itself. He’s a force as a singer, and his standing among his peers is a reflection of that. His voice has earned him respect from some of the most talented artists in the world, and that’s something no one can take away from him.
At the end of the day, all the labels and opinions from outsiders don’t matter. Taehyung’s talent is recognized by the people who matter, and that’s what truly counts.
