I saw a blog about GW2 Commander's age when becoming the commander so I decided it's a loredump time for Nastazya Ragewelder. Nastazya was 30 years old when she became the Commander, having already had a lot of military experience and hardening her shell well before becoming one of the most renowned Commanders on Tyria. At first however, she wasn't so skilled. From fahrar up til she was 25, she was rash and reckless. Rushing in to prove herself to her mother and father, Raeve Goreblade and Argus Foolkiller. Mostly to the former, her mother was an Iron Legion centurion who she looked up to a lot. Originally, she grew up with six other cubs in fahrar, the Rage Warband. Two of which are Howl Boldrage and Dinky Bluntrage. The other four; Clio Wildrage, Faust Edgerage, Graw Ragehammer and Tullia Ragemelt. Tullia being Nastazya's mate at the time.

This however would not last, she was in the Iron Marches along with her warband and her mother preparing against the ogres. Nastazya complained about Raeve holding her back, she wanted to join. She was swiftly reprimanded and forced to reply in military respect, ultimately her warband was stuck with watching the camp. That is until Kralkatorrik soared over Ascalon, while Raeve and her group went after the ogres. Nastazya demanded Howl to let her go into the new Brand, and he allows it, along with the rest of the warband coming along voluntarily too. And this is where Nastazya's personality gets a major shift, she finds her mother already branded. Faust pushes her out of the way of bolt of branding magic and gets crystallised. She has to slay her mother, the rest of the warband get Faust out of the crystal, though it's too late and he soon turns branded. Graw quickly takes him out, kneeling for forgiveness soon after. And everything spirals down as they try to escape, Clio's drake turns and kills her. An army of branded hears the struggles and Graw stays to give the others time to escape. Tullia gets impaled by a sudden attacking branded siege devourer, and sends Nastazya into an anguished rage, destroying the monster's head near to dust. Tullia is the only one they manage to retrieve the body of. So the last three of Nastazya, Howl and Dinky return to the camp, another Iron Centurion there for info. It's hard on the three, especially Nastazya who has the guilt over her head for getting her warband into the brand in the first place. Down over half of their warband, Howl feels he can no longer lead. The three ends up being transferred into Urvan Steelbane's warband. Nastazya would change from Ragewelder to Steelrage during the next five years. It's during those years she wisens up, takes understanding strategy more seriously, she never wants to go through another warband loss again. She improves, toughens up more than ever. And then Urvan's 'strategies' manage to get another warband of hers killed, all but Dinky. It takes all of her power to not attack Urvan the moment he blames her for the deaths, but in the end, she kills him in the Bane and takes over the warband. Returning once more to Rage Warband and retaking her old name. And that begins the path towards becoming the Legendary Pact Commander.

A bittersweet ending note; in fahrar the other cubs helped her with her braided hairstyle. And to this day she always does her hair as they did, with each braid being the one her warband did back then.

Me with my gw2 commander Nastazya.

She lost her partner of around 6 years Tullia and half of her warband 5 years prior to start of story, due to a mix of events out of her control, but she was also the reason they went there in the first place.

She avoided relationships for years, and then came along her old friend and rival Marcus. He could see her weighed down by her new role, and offered to travel with her and help out. With some flirting here and there. But she turned him down on the latter, not wanting to get into something that way again. But he still is allowed to travel and help out as an ally rather than a partner.

Jump ahead a year and a bit and Marcus vanishes into the Mists after rushing in to aid a friend. Naz is FURIOUS. And when her anger finally slows down, she realises that she actually did fall for him, cause having him not by her side now is making her anxious about his safety. Far more than the friend he rushed in to save.

Another year passes, Naz's moments worrying about Marcus has also brought back memories of Tullia and she's struggling with the loss of her first mate, and the potential loss of a second. However, Marcus does come back along with his friend, and powered up on Mists magic too. Naz mouths off at him, biggest scolding that man has had in a long time, before hugging on to him and telling him to never leave her like that again.

Safe to say, she chose to love again after nearly losing him. And they're still together to this day. Naz still has moments where she thinks about Tullia and has a cry about her, travels and thinks how much she'd have liked those places. Marcus is there to comfort her about it now though.

You know what I think its grossly under-rated in fandom? Second loves.

What it's like to love and lose and then love again. To suffer through either the death of a loved one or the death of a love you used to share. To know that loss, to know that hurt, and to still make yourself vulnerable to someone again. To love scared, to love wounded, to love anyway.

Thinking about young Nastazya and her Rage warband, what she was like, and how much of an absolute pain she must have been for her primus Tonold. Young Naz was definitely a bully, alongside her friend Clio. They were the mean girls, the tough ones. Those two probably got roared at by Tonold on many occasions aha. Poor Faust would have gotten the brunt of their antics, a slim lad for a Bloodie. Clio would often call him 'Lanky' which stuck even after they graduated. Whenever the two were being mean, he'd hide behind Graw, the big lad of the 'band. Tullia and Howl were the only ones who could get those two to back off. Tullia trying to mediate, saying they're making Dinky upset, and none of them want to upset Dinky. He's like the little brother of the 'band. Howl is the bold and bossy 'leader' of the warband. And if Naz and Clio act up too much he always threatens to go report them to Tonold. It usually works. Usually. Sometimes they get in a fight, because Nastazya was a brawly little devil of a kit. Inevitably causing enough of a ruckus for Tonold to need to step in, Naz getting cub time out, being pouty and growly.

Hi, out of the blue oc question for you, hope that's alright.

What made Naz change her mind about her feelings about Marcus? Was it like an epiphany or was it a gradual build up?

I'm always happy to answer any oc questions!

The quick answer is it was gradual that suddenly struck hard at a key moment, the long answer is below.

For this I need to delve a little in Naz's backstory.

From 20 years old, Nastazya had a different mate, Tullia Ragemelt. She was a warbandmate of hers, and it was going pretty well until 1320 AE. (She was 25 here) Kralkatorrik branding, Naz rushing in with her warband to find her mother who was in it. All of her warband but her, Howl and Dinky die because of that, she got broken over everyone, but Tullia most of all.

Safe to say, she refused to get into any more relationships after that. Another 5 years as a Steel warband member in Urvan's, personal story events and returning to Rage warband after. Nows the time where Marcus comes in again.

She's Vigil, he's Whispers. They both happen to meet again when protecting the Skritt, and consistently meet up again and again. Until the point the two battle Zhaitan (plus Naz's half brother Chip as a priory magister)

Marcus starts falling for her during this, he does confess after a night of drinking, but Naz turns him down. She does however still feel something, he survived Zhaitan after all. She agrees to let him continue adventuring at her side.

LWS1 and LWS2 events happen, Marcus is with her for all of them up til foefire with the failed ritual. As Whispers, he's fast, and dives in after Rytlock.

There's a deep gasp and a growl, Nastazya charges forth and crashes to a kneel where the rift once was. Her claws scratch uselessly at the floor, before she angrily crashes an armoured fist with a clank against the stone. "MARCUS! You dolyak-headed bastard! The hell did you do that for!? RGH!"

Needless to say, she ends up pretty distraught over the time he's gone, and you know the whole absence makes the heart grow fonder. Now add that on to Naz doesn't even know if he's still alive, and the hope that he is is somehow hurting more than when she lost Tullia.

Fast forward to Heart of Thorns, mordrem battle is not going well, even as Nastazya unlocks her ability to strengthen herself with pure rage as a Berserker.

And then Rytlock returns, with a Revenant Marcus at his side too. And once the battle is done...

And this is the turning point, where they officially become a pair, and the rest is an ongoing history.

Wanted to make a timeline concerning my main five charr ocs, starting with the oldest one's parents getting together.

The main five being; Nastazya Ragewelder, Marcus Furyclash, Tantalus Locksmith, Vithgar 'Chip' Ironwelder and Calypso 'Cali' Fellstalk.

This will be long, and also contains spoilers for GW2

Iron Legionnaire Raeve Gorehorn and Blood Legionnaire Argus Foolkiller start a relationship.

1295

Nastazya Ragewelder is born to Raeve and Argus.

1296

Nastazya sent to fahrar under tutelage of Tonold Cubguider, meets her new warbandmates Howl Boldrage, Dinky Bluntrage, Clio Wildrage, Graw Ragehammer, Faust Edgerage and Tullia Ragemelt.

Blood Soldier Clement Forktail and Blood Legionnaire Unglot Fearripper start a relationship.

Raeve visits Chip occasionally, impressed by his skill in machinery. She brushes off Nastazya's attempts to talk regularly.

Vallus keeps tabs on Chip and Cali, visits Cali more often since Raeve continues to meet with Chip.

Raeve promoted to Centurion.

Argus promoted to Centurion.

Nastazya graduates fahrar as Blood Soldier of Rage Warband. Howl is the legionnaire of the warband.

Faust is branded by Raeve and killed by Graw soon after. Clio and Tullia die during the escape. Graw goes MIA while fighting branded, presumed dead.

Nastazya and Howl fall into depression, Dinky unsure what to do. The three of them are transferred to Urvan Steelbane's Steel Warband. They change their warband names to Nastazya Steelrage, Howl Boldsteel and Dinky Bluntsteel.

1323

Chip loses his right foot to an accident during mine defusal, builds himself a metal foot prosthetic so he can keep leading his warband.

1325

Nastazya joins Rytlock Brimstone in an assault against Duke Barradin.

Howl and most of the Steel warband dies to ghosts, Nastazya and Dinky survive. Urvan blames Nastazya, she kills him in the Bane, taking role of Legionnaire. She returns her name to Ragewelder and recruits Elexus Shredskin and Soure Doomsday amongst other charr to her renamed Rage Warband.

Marcus recruits Fyon the Wraith to his warband.

Chip invents the Ghostbore Musket, he recruits Luccia Wildeye and Cimmara Pistolwhip to his warband.

Cali recruits Yahuk Fellstrike and Samona Ironclaw to her warband.

Tantalus recruits Zemzer to his warband.

Argus Foolkiller dies, leaving a letter to Nastazya. She follows the clues and finds a Diessa Chalice left to her alongside Rytlock Brimstone. She gets promoted to Centurion.

Vallus Smokemane demoted to Gladium after stealing a Balthazar idol intending to trade it to separatists to save a warbandmate. Chip ordered to apprehend him, does so. Chip forced by Vallus' legionnaire to execute his sire in the Bane. Chip reluctantly does so. Chip promoted to Centurion due to his actions.

Cali becomes distant with Chip for a while, upset about the death of her sire.

Clement Forktail ushers interest in meeting either of his sons, Rytlock brings in Marcus for the job. Clement is to be apprehended and questioned for Flame intel. With the intel, Marcus trusts his sire and together they protect the Tribunes from a Flame Legion ritual. Clement is pardoned and returns to the High Legions, Marcus promoted to Centurion.

Nastazya joins Vigil after killing the risen undead corpse of Howl Boldrage, trains under Forgal, then General Almorra Soulkeeper. Ascends ranks to Warmaster. Dinky is left as Legionnaire of the Rage Warband.

Marcus joins Order of Whispers, trains under Tybalt. Ascends ranks to Lightbringer. Maverick is left as Legionnaire of the Fury Warband.

Chip joins Priory, trains under Sieran. Ascends ranks to Magister. Reeva is left as legionnaire of the Welder Warband.

Nastazya, Marcus and Chip join the battle of Claw Island. Forgal, Tybalt and Sieran lose their lives. Marcus takes this the hardest, Nastazya stays strong after all she's experienced and lost in her past. Chip is relatively numb to it after having to execute his father not long past.

The Pact is formed, Nastazya is chosen to be Trahearne's second as Commander. Marcus and Chip hold high positions in their respective orders.

Marcus' personality starts to shift significantly to a more worrisome and caring side after losing Tybalt and later causing a friendly-fire mortar incident.

The battle of Zhaitan occurs, Nastazya, Marcus and Chip are all aboard the airship that battles the dragon. Victory eventually comes, all three survive and become renowned as dragon slayers, Nastazya most of all as the Commander.

Nastazya continues to adventure around Tyria and aid those in need, Marcus joins at her side, having grown smitten with her. The feelings are not reciprocated, yet. Chip returns to Ascalon to continue Priory work there, he is told by Reeva that she is expecting cubs.

1326-1327

Events of Scarlet Briar and Mordremoth's Awakening happen.

Bolt, Spark and Rivet are born to Chip and Reeva in 1326.

Bolt, Spark and Rivet sent to fahrar in 1327.

Cali joins the Priory at recommendation of her Ash Tribune, for the purpose of attaining more knowledge for the legions. Her distance to her brother lessens as she works with him at times.

Marcus vanishes into the Mists chasing after Rytlock during a foefire ritual failure.

Nastazya grows more hostile and thorny with his dissappearance. Though at one point talks about her past warband to Rox.

1328

Heart of Thorns events happen.

Marcus returns from the Mists, now learned as a Revenant who invokes Kalla Scorchrazor and Ventari. He wears a visor to block his sight to help focus the voices.

Nastazya and Marcus start a relationship.

Nastazya, Marcus, Chip and Cali fight in the battle. Cali does not fight Mordremoth directly.

Tantalus grows envious of his brother's renown and freedom, starting to thieve from the High Legions for personal enjoyment. He starts a casual relationship with Ash Centurion Igna Earthvein.

Tantalus is caught in a trick by Ash Legion Julius Tonguecut, getting caught stealing military files from Iron for an assassination plan. He is arrested and sent to Scourgejaw Mines to pay his sentence, he receives scars across his back from lashing and his face from ore being thrown at him by guards.

Euryale Spellsmith becomes Legionnaire, changes to Euryale Runesmelt of Smelt Warband.

Tantalus escapes with the aid of Thieves Guild Cassi Swiftshadow, alongside another charr called Risk. He gets shot in the back during his escape, making him unable to walk without aid temporarily. Tantalus presumed executed by High Legions.

Marcus is upset by the news of his brother's execution, but is aided by his now mate Nastazya.

1329

Events of LWS3 happen.

Dragon's Watch is formed, Nastazya the leader and Marcus a second in command.

Allius is born to Tantalus and Igna. Igna is overly controlling, not wanting to have him become like Tantalus.

Tantalus mostly recovers, though his back is still weak to strikes. He learns the ways of the Daredevil under Thiefmaster Slade, he gets forged ID as Rust Scarjaw.

Cassi Swiftshadow is caught by Julius Tonguecut, her crow flies off for help. Tantalus arrives, but too late to save her from the Ash Centurion's poison. He eradicates Julius' warband and enacts revenge on the charr who got him caught. He returns alone, and starts a path as an assassin, self teaching in the ways of a Deadeye.

Chip meets fellow amputee Magister Blinnk 'Zapp.' He and the asura work together to make an asuran-charr hybrid battle golem that Chip uses to battle alongside. They also dabble in prosthesis inventions.

1330

Events of Path of Fire happen.

Nastazya is killed by Balthazar, but resurrects by taking the lifeforce of an Eater of Souls while in the Domain of the Lost. Marcus stops using a visor to block his sight.

During the final battle against Balthazar, Nastazya's left eye is irreversibly scarred, she loses sight in it. But she comes out alive regardless.

Nastazya voices interest in having cubs with Marcus, after having the previous death experience and wanting more of a legacy.

Allius sent to fahrar, unable to stay in a warband.

Chip and Blinnk start a relationship.

1331

Events of LWS4 happen.

Nastazya undergoes labour directly after taking out Joko. Returns to the Black Citadel before it gets worse. Meets a medic called Maxim Woundbind.

Vita and Galvar are born to Nastazya and Marcus.

Nastazya makes a friend with Ursa Metalcrunch, Maxim's mate and mother of Patia. Ursa watches over Vita and Galvar alongside her own cub when Nastazya and Marcus are called to action.

1332

Nastazya and Marcus grow depressed after Aurene is branded, Vita and Galvar get help from Ursa to give their parents gifts.

Nastazya receives a high quality eyepatch, Marcus receives a high quality headband. They both begin to hope again, seeing their cubs trust in them so. They take their gifts with them at all times from now on.

Aurene returns, Kralkatorrik is defeated. Nastazya and Marcus spend all the time with their cubs as they can.

Vita and Galvar sent to fahrar under tutelage of Tonold Cubguider. They start a warband with Patia, Allius and Lorranu.

Events of Icebrood Saga begin.

Nastazya breaks after finding Almorra dead, Marcus is by her side to keep her steady.

The two visit fahrar, they discover Allius is their nephew. They're happy that Vita and Galvar have good cubs joining their warband.

1333

Icebrood Saga continues.

Charr civil war breaks out.

Maxim Woundbind dies in battle. Ursa breaks her arm and is convinced by Nastazya to stay back.

Nastazya kills the traitor Elexus Shredskin.

Chip kills the traitor Luccia Wildeye.

Cali and Clawspur kill the traitor Yahuk Fellstrike.

Nastazya breaks even more, relying even more on Marcus to steady her. Marcus ends up breaking down along with her when the two are alone.

Chip saves Nastazya from Ryland's sniping.

Bangar Ruinbringer is corrupted by Jormag as their Voice. Marcus urges Nastazya not to kill him, he'd still be useful. Nastazya takes her rage out on her mate and leaves him for a week.

The two meet again and make up at the fahrar, where they meet Tonold's granddaughter Tyrana, Primus-in-training.

Cali leaves the Priory and returns to the High Legions.

1334

Icebrood Saga concludes.

Chip and Blinnk assist Taimi and Gorrik with dragon research.

1335

Events of End of Dragons.

Chip and Blinnk start experimenting with Jade Tech.

Nastazya fights the Void in Cantha, Marcus is sent back to the Black Citadel to protect the fahrar and their cubs.

Marcus loses his right hand protecting his cubs from the Void, saved by Ursa when he can't fight. He gets a Jade Tech prosthesis replacement afterwards.

Nastazya and Marcus buy themselves a personal home in Lion's Arch.

Marcus meets Tantalus in The Dead End Bar at Divinity's Reach, getting into an argument. Ends up leaving as if his brother was dead all along after Tantalus unsuccessfully tries to shoot him in the head. The two brothers never see each other again.

Nastazya rescues Galvar from a separatist.

Tonold's tail gets severed by the separatist, his granddaughter Tyrana takes over as Primus for the cubs. Tonold retires, but stays in contact with the cubs and his granddaughter.

Nastazya inadvertently mentions wanting another cub while drunk, Marcus discusses it with her where she turns it down when sober.

A month later, Nastazya relents and decides she does want another cub with him.

1336

Graw revealed to have been discovered by Aurene, half of his body was branded and he's in a coma as he fights the brand through sheer willpower. Aurene uses her new mind abilities from Soo-Won to attempt to fix his broken mind, still struggling against Kralkatorrik's branding. With Nastazya's aid and voice, they manage to rouse Graw into awareness, enough for him to stay himself as Aurene cleanses the corrupting brand on him.

Graw still half crystal, but no longer struggles. He learns about the warband, and how only Nastazya and Dinky are left alive from it. While upset, he gladly goes to see Dinky again, at Nastazya's side due to his physical situation. Though after he feels he has no place with the charr anymore, instead aims to join the Crystal Bloom, his strong mind enables him to learn to be a Revenant and invoke Glint.

Peregrin is born to Nastazya and Marcus.

because it's a fun prompt to see people answer: if gw2 had more of a jrpg styling to its narrative. What would the support convesations be between your characters and the main cast (aka the ones where you invite em for tea, or to the bathhouse etc or heck a beach episode). That being mostly dragon's watch

Nastazya and Rox would have some tavern conversations, both of them being charr who lost their warbands. Even more the both of them lost a charr called Tullia. (Tullia Ragemelt and Tullia Pickright) Perhaps sharing in grief at first, but then reminiscing on good times they did have with their warbands as time goes on. (In fact I am planning to write a thing of the two at some point soon)

Chip Ironwelder along with his Priory partner Blinnk would have moments of discussions with Taimi and Gorrik, the two are inventors so they'd get all into mechanical and tech talks. Plus a little relating on disabled legs, with Taimi's muscle disorder and Chip's amputated right paw. (Chip is luckier in that he just needs a prosthetic to walk well)

Marcus Furyclash I imagine might speak with Braham, in an almost parenting/teacher sort of way at first. He sees in Braham a lot of how Nastazya used to be, before she made a grave mistake that cost half of her warband. Braham would be abrasive at first, but over time eventually open up to realising Marcus just doesn't want to see him go through the same. They might go hunting together, that seems fitting for the both of em aha. Something with one of my newest characters Calypso Fellstalk. She's quiet, efficient, this side of her might make Marjory curious about her more. Kasmeer would also be part of the discussions, where it will be revealed that Cali is actually quite the fashion minded charr who never really gets the chance to indulge in it, quite the tailor herself too. Discussions would be more coming from the Jory & Kas side, trying to open Cali up more.

As for Rytlock, I can't think of anything immediate, I've already written interactions between him and my main two a lot, especially since they're Blood Legions. I know that Citadel politics would be the last thing any of them wanna talk about, maybe try to get him to come along on some travels if they can convince Crecia to loosen his leash.

17 - Are there any that certain members of Dragon's Watch prefer over the others?

There's some splits based on personality and actions. For the neutral ones where both are similar, Marjory, Kasmeer, Taimi, Caithe.

Rox prefers Nastazya, since they're both charr women who lost their warbands. They both even had a Tullia too. Tullia Pickright and Tullia Ragemelt.

After the clash between them got sorted, Braham also definitely prefers Nastazya, they both have that slam head against enemy energy lmao.

Rytlock is honestly closer to Marcus, thanks to the fact the two were Mists travelers for a year before HoT. Plus, Marcus doesn't punch him in the face.

Gorrik prefers Marcus too, if only because Nastazya is kind of intimidating and scary.

18 - Do they share responsibility at the same time or do they hand it off as needed?

Well Marcus tries to share responsibility and Nastazya could really use it, but she's generally seen as the main Commander. All the hopes of the people weigh too heavy on her shoulders.

So Marcus has to try hold her up instead, to support her. But it's getting too much for her lately, and depending on the way the story goes, Nastazya might be taking a backseat while Marcus leads.

oh my god I've been writing about Naz finally talking about her past to Rox, and her lost mate Tullia Ragemelt only to find out that ROX HAD A TULLIA IN HER WARBAND TOO TULLIA PICKRIGHT AAA
