i understand why modern adaptations go for a underdog leaning story, chivalry and found family traits over the original books, i really do.

but us book readers need everyone else to understand there is a different kind of beauty and appreciation in following the story of a group of bulletproof sugar babies and absolute pricks wherein richelieu being 'the bad guy' is (at times) quite proportionate to the amount of paycheck/job bonuses our lovely protagonists get.

your main character is not a happy go lucky naive youth who comes into town and becomes a respectable, honor upholding person. he has the personality and behavior of a feral rat whose defining characteristic is he is physically unable to pay rent - ever, surrounded by three friends who are the leading examples of bad moral, ethical and economic conduct.

these people wake up in the morning and immediately find at least five ways to break the law and are, themselves, the worst employers in the vicinity.

it's not: "ohh we will fight for the king because it's the nice and cool thing to do" territory.

these are "if situation calls for it we will eat a guy (and the guy in questionisn't even dead)" premises.

and we are here for it popcorn in hand.

That one of the ONLY reasons, Rayla wouldn't let herself die is because it wouldn't feel fair to Callum?

You ever think that she wanted to die when hurt? Or when a lead is merely nothing? You think she ever thought of just giving up, turning back.

Or if death is all she deserved for harming the one she loves. If he moved on and found someone better, who wouldn't hurt him.

But how selfish of her to think of such things.

How selfish to think of actually dying or giving up.

It's not fair for Callum to suffer over her death. If he even would mourn her. Or maybe he'd just be happy that the weight of her is gone.
