Deepfake and AI video recreation is in the public mind a lot. This is a legitimate concern for the public on multiple levels, and one of the more important aspects is not focused upon – that is the way in which AI can be used to enforce Orwell’s dictum.
PRISM (as leaked by Snoden) has demonstrated partially a degree to which the existing state-capitalist institutions of control embed in to internet and other media platforms (primarily focusing on how your data is harvested). What is not considered is the multi-directional control of media platforms, not merely through algorithm manipulation, but by direct interference.
Something I have witnessed personally (as a tortured and trafficked slave it appears I am used as a guinea pig for a variety of novel tech and methods) is the live manipulation of videos already loaded on to Youtube by AI. Whilst I have witnessed targeted posts designed to influence me specifically based on my personal data (this includes using targeted ads or pages controlled by propaganda and mind control factions), I have now witnessed the modification of videos for mind control on YouTube and other platforms.
This does not only include the creation of New AI videos to specifically influence me or the public, BUT also the modification on past videos on the platform. Theoretically, this could be achieved in a targeted way to myself by direct end devices hacking on my laptop (which is achievable due to entrance in my home which I have documented), but also it may now be possible to modify past videos already uploaded to these platforms to entirely rewrite history.
The rewriting of history has never been easier; The mere modification of pixels on a screen can change the entire narrative. Entire sentences never spoken by an individual could be placed in to their mouths with AI. No longer would we have to hunt trough libraries and rip out pages not agreeable to the current regime, but worse. What does this mean? The real truth of the near past may exist only in the living memory of a few, but when they pass, this too will be gone.
Now, theoretically, AI falsification can also be detected with AI tools, and what we could see is a continued spiralling of development; AI becomes better at video falsification, then AI powered AI fake detection becomes more accurate, and this could go on and on (totally throwing the possibility of human detection way out the window). But, I question if there is enough of an incentive for power to (permit or) develop AI fake detection tools as they have the most to gain from AI fakes. Meaning a further power imbalance.
Moving away from public mind control, the manipulation of the past and the propaganda narrative, I would like to focus on an even more dangerous, disturbing and harmful use of the tool of video falsification: that is the tampering of security footage.
This becomes especially concerning when we recognise the edge state-capitalist institutions have to create less-detectable fakes, combined with the knowledge of institutional violence. A poignant example is the fact of sex traffick and rape infiltrating powers, including paedophilia and slavery (look to the Epstein case or Kincora boys). Rape, abuse and paedophilia is hugely profitable, and states have control over (and directly profit form) this cruel, degrading and inhuman black market.
My ultimate fear is that alongside other advancements in technology, such as neural interfaces, we could see entire schools rendered temporarily unconscious or amnesiac, to be mass raped for profit by ‘elites’. And then, due to the hacking capacities of the institutions and AI fake development, all security footage will be undermined, and it will appear as if such crimes did not occur.
And remember, many do not hold security footage for longer than 3 months, and presuming that the state-capitalist rapists have at least a 3 month technological edge, meaning their AI-fake will not be detectable by AI-powered AI-fake detection within that period, the footage will then be deleted.

If your OC was in this universe, what would be their favourite show/book/band/social media platform?
Since it wasn't specificed who you want rhis for, I'm going to do Tsura!
Her favorite show is the Owl House! She relates a lot to Luz's struggles in the mortal world. Also there's very little Roma rep out there and Luz looks sorta like her
For book, I'd say To All the Boys I've Loved Before. I haven't read it, but Hobie said it's good and I trust him. Also it feels like something Tsura would read
I'm not sure what her favorite band would be, but Tsura like listening to singer Ayọ and I feel like that answer is in the spririt of the question
Her favorite social media platform is definitely Pinterest

What do you think the todofam will be like after the war?
It's something I've been wondering as well.
Let's start with a premise.
This story is aimed mainly to a Japanese audience which sees things according to their culture. Some things that for them are a given aren't for who's not Japanese and vice versa. So, it gets twice as difficult for us to follow the message Horikoshi wants to deliver.
Also... this is going to be long and actually should have been longer. I tried to keep it as short as I could but this might have caused to make it not perfectly clear so I apologize in advance.
Lastly, what follows are just my two cents, feel free to disagree.
Said so let's tackle the matter from a realistic perspective.
If BNHA were not a story but the real world, the Todoroki family is finished. Not because Enji abused his family, but because one of their members (Tōya) is a murderer.
A seinen manga "Theseus no fune" (テセウスの船) digs with what happens to a family of 5 after the father, Sano Bungo, was accused of murder.
The mother, who was at the time pregnant, was denied hospitalization to give birth to her child.
They had to hide their identity because each time it was discovered they were forced to move. People would also refuse to hire them if they were to know of it. The main character, the youngest child of the man, the one that was born AFTER his father was accused of murder, and who should have been named Seigi (justice) is named instead Shin (heart) because "there's no justice for the son of a murderer", has to take his mother's surname (along with the rest of the family), have to wear a mask to hide his face to work, so that he won't be recognized, had to give up on becoming a teacher and, although he managed to marry, his wife's relatives refused to accept the marriage. When the wife dies during childbirth, her parents attend tot he funeral but claim they couldn't tell anyone about it because otherwise people would know she married the son of a criminal. They also demand their grandchild to be handed to them because she can't grow up with the son of a murderer.
Note that said son of a murderer, never had any contact with his father as the man had been arrested before his birth, and therefore Shin clearly couldn't be responsible for his father's crime.
We see something similar happening in BNHA for people who're involved in minor crimes.
Tobita tried to help someone but failed and was accused of preventing a Hero from saving him.
He was expelled from school and his family was implied to be targeted with bullying (see the graffiti with insults on the gate?)
It got so bad even his family chased him away.
Jin goes through something similar. Due to being involved in an incedent he's fired and no one wants to hire him ever again so he ends up homeless.
It's implied the same happened with Himiko, though we don't know if she ended up on the run just after attacking Saito, knowing her parents wouldn't want her back, or after trying to go back home and being rejected.
While Himiko's house might have been further devasted AFTER she joined the league, we can see that the gate was already damaged when her parents still lived there just after she had attacked Saito.
Note that none of the three over mentioned characters had yet committed murder. Tobita wanted to help, and the man who he had been unable to save will recover in 6 months, Jin ended up running over a guy who ran in the street without warning but only broke his arm and, as far as we know, Saito didn't die due to Himiko's attack.
Yet, they're shunned by society and with them their families who turn their back to them.
Now picture how much worse this would be for someone who committed murder.
Tōya/Dabi himself touches upon how bad they should have it now.
'Hitotsu kikitēnda ga Shōto… omae ittai donna tsura shite? Obieru shimin to issho ni U.A. ni komotteiraretanda? ENDEAVOR no musuko Dabi no kyōdai yakusai no nikogori mite~e nate me ~e ga!!'
「一つ聞きてえんだが焦凍… おまえ一体どんな面して 怯える市民と一緒に雄英に籠ってられたんだ? エンデヴァーの息子荼毘の兄弟 厄災の煮凝りみてぇなてめェが!!」
``I have to ask you one thing, Shōto... What the hell kind of face were you wearing? Were you able to stay holed up in U.A. with the frightened citizens? Endeavor's son, Dabi's brother, it's like a broth of calamity/disaster/misfortune! !”*
*okay, technically he says 'yakusai no nikogori' (厄災の煮凝り) which litterally is a "jellied broth of disaster/calamity", but the fact he chose the nikogori is also due to how the kanji used to write it are 'ni' (煮 "boil, cook") and 'gori' (凝 "freeze").
The people in U.A. should have wanted Shouto in it as much as they wanted Deku when he first showed up there, not even a bit, even though Deku did nothing wrong...
Something many fans often miss of this scene is that when Deku enters in U.A. all his classmates are there, except for Shōto, and that Heroes supporting Deku like Present Mic and Best Jeanist are there, but not Endeavor and Hawks.
Where are they? Just outside.
It will be Ectoplasm who will call them in when all is finished.
Why Shōto isn't with his classmates supporting Deku? Why Endeavor and Hawks remain outside?
It's not because they don't care but because they would make matters worse.
And Shōto, poor kid, is completely innocent, Enji might have responsibilities for what Tōya did but Shōto? Whatever he did wrong?
Yet, same Tamura Shin from "Theseus no fune", he's likely hold accountable for his brother and father's crimes as well as the rest of his family.
The story glosses it over, we see nothing being done against Shōto or the rest of his family, and his classmates act mostly supportive so he doesn't seem to have it bad, but the story likely doesn't show it because, for Japanese people, it's a given Shōto would have it bad, it's unnecessary to esplicitly show it and it would probably be too dark of a subject so Horikoshi skims on it, as in Japan it's public knowledge.
That's why Natsuo said all that awaits them is pure hell.
It was bad enough Tōya had killed people before but now he had attempted to nuke Japan and the Todorokis don't expect they will be 'forgiven' because they actually stopped him almost getting themselves killed in the process.
In a way Tōya has cornered them, their best option was actually to die with him.
So if we go for a realistic ending Enji will have to drop his job and the same goes for Fuyumi and Natsuo, Shōto should leave school, the family should live in hiding, being bullied and ostracized and this regardless of them having saved the day and of Tōya's fate (if he dies or lives, if he gets jailed, sentenced to death or spared due to his body condition being so disastrous he might end up needing permanently hospitalized... assuming they'll be willing to hospitalize him).
They would probably do better change name and country and attempt to start a new live under another identity and away from Japan... if the likely scarring burns they gained will allow them to live in hiding.
Now... this is a realistic fate for them.
BNHA however is a story, and it's a story which is also making a point of criticizing society. It doesn't hold just the Todorokis but also society as accountable for what Tōya did.
It's a story with a moral and if society doesn't get 'punished' or 'redeemed', or, more specifically 'atones', the moral ends up being that society can do any sort of thing to people and it will never be punished and if you retaliate you'll be squashed down. Not exactly an uplifting moral.
The League of Villains is born by society's sins. Generally for me the most meaningful thing is this scene.
Why? Because in my country if you are and adult and find on the streets an unsupervised kid of 5 and turn your eyes away, it's a crime even if he doesn't look in such a poor shape like Tenko.
All those people pretending not to see him would get in troubles. In Japan they aren't so strict but for me the scene looks particularly strong because it's basically a crime.
So I've really no sympathy for those people and, if the story wants to have an uplifting moral, society has to change, hold itself accountable for how it hurt Tenko and the others and atone toward them.
In the same vein society should reform and not mistreat the Todorokis the way it did with Tobita or Himeko's family but support them.
This however narratively presents some huge problems.
Society is a broad concept and BNHA didn't offer us one or more characters that could work as stand in for it.
The characters we get familiar with, often represent the best part of society.
For example we know there were corrupted Heroes, we know the HPSC had Lady Nagant kill corrupted Heroes but... did we ever met them? Nope.
Stain, who wanted to change society and erase corrupter Heroes who ended up attacking?
Some Hero who abused his power to commit crimes? Some Hero who actually was in league with criminals? Some Hero who actually was negligent in his work? Some Hero who, at least, throwed trash on the streets?
Nope. He attacks Īda's brother and Native... who overall seemed two decent guys.
This creates a clash of our perception in the story, the League attacked society but the characters we were presented with were usually great people.
The League undoubtedly perceives society as evil and worth being wiped out because they met the worse of it but... we didn't.
That's why many readers feel like the League should be jailed for terrorism but no one thinks the "Star Wars" rebels in the first trilogy should met the same fate for... the exact same crime.
In "Star Wars" first trilogy the empire is always represented as evil, all its soldiers are represented as evil and we've zero sympathy for them when they get wiped out.
But in BNHA society is not the empire, society is common people who've families and feel... innocent enough not to deserve what the League unleash on them, especially since BNHA had too few 'bad guys' among the good guys and, conveniently or not so conveniently, wiped out the HPSC before it could take the blame for many problems and we are instead way too often presented with 'good guys' characters.
So Horikoshi has to find a way to deliver the message that if said society ended up under attack, it was actually due to its shortcomings.
Tōya told Enji the past never dies and you reap what you sow...
...but this applied to society too.
In response later on Enji will realize he'll have to atone to him and apologize to him.
In theory society should do the same... so that the story could have an uplifting moral of society learning from its errors and never again repeating them so that people will be better and the League of Villain will never be reborn in the future... however... it's much easier for us to apply all this to Todoroki Enji than to the BNHA society.
It's very fairy tale to assume that society will say "hey but if we didn't mistreat those guys first, they wouldn't have done what they did, shouldn't we also make amends?"
I don't really know if Horikoshi will be able to pull this off in a convincing manner, or if he'll be allowed to do it because one of the problems in his story is he can't allow to come to pass the idea that what the League did was an acceptable response.
We see it in the attack at Central Hospital.
In theory the story should end with a similar situation.
Shōji acknowledged that the Heteromorphs were hurt and persecuted but turning to violence wasn't acceptable
...and then somehow the Heteromorphs changed their mind and stop fighting and the people said they heard their voices today and they're sorry for not realizing it sooner and everyone cries and all's well that ends well and many readers hate this arc (for which SO MUCH could be written) and label it poor writing and it's actually a very minor bit so...
I don't know if Horikoshi now has used the people's response to it to perfect his ending in a way that won't have backlash.
So back to your question, what about the Todorokis?
Hopefully since Horikoshi wants to go to a positive and uplifting ending, the Todorokis will be spared from a fate that will be hell.
After all they made a big deal of how things were being recorded on videos. Society might be impressed by how this family came together to save everyone and might feel bad for them as well as partially responsible.
If society will come together instead than ostracizing and mistreating people, the Todorokis might not be end up driven into a corner.
In the same vein the Todorokis will likely come together as a family.
That is because I'm assuming that the idea Horikoshi wants to come to pass is that you've to PREVENT people from going bad, not punish them once the deed is done and by coming together they prevent the situation from worsening.
So, I'm willing to bet the plan is that Natsuo is wrong and no, it won't be hell for them from now on, though it likely won't be easy.
I don't know if Tōya and the rest of the League will survive, because it would be damn convenient for Horikoshi to have them die, so that he won't have to face the whole punishment thing.
If they're dead they can't be punished nor society can be asked to atone to them for what they did to them, and so Horikoshi can focus on society coming together and supporting the people who're less 'cuplable' and reforming itself easily enough in such a way that would fit the kind of fairy tale nature of BNHA.
At the same time killing the league off is such a goddamn easy solution for the problem I really pray he won't go for it... but I recognize with the League he kept the bar really very high.
So I would love for Tōya to survive and heal and be given another chance and this time, with support from his family and society, become a better person, and the same goes for the rest of the League, but I don't know if Horikoshi can, is willing and will be allowed to pull this off.
We can only wait and see.
For now, I think it'll probably be safe enough to assume that at the end the Todoroki family will come together and they won't be in hell but Fuyumi will be allowed to continue to work as a teacher and Natsuo will be allowed to continue to study and will marry his girlfriend. I aslo think Shōto will be allowed to become a Hero. As for Enji he might retire. I know people would want to see him jailed for his family abuse but since no one in his family is willing to file charges against him I'm pretty sure this won't happen. Likely he also won't divorce from Rei.
Tōya's fate through remains a mystery.
I'd like for him to end up hospitalized and for his family to stay and support him, for Enji to atone to him and finally look at him but well, we can only wait and see for this.
As much as I hate the idea we were told Tōya (who shouldn't have managed to survive away from Garaki's support) survived till now due to his grudge to his family, if he were to let it go he might just die... albeith in that case he would probably die in peace because he would finally feel loved by his family. We'll see.
Thank you for your ask!

Rating: G Pairing: Taash x Rook (Qunari Rogue) Summary: Taash and Tsura (Rook), take on a small mission for the the Lords of Fortune. Taash is new to the team and Tsura still isn't sure what to make of them, but some one-on-one time could help. Also on Ao3: https://archiveofourown.org/works/61087747
Author's Notes:
I loveeee Veilguard so far and I really like Taash, which is surprising to me because they weren't really on my radar at all when they first advertised them. But once they joined my party and I got the steamy kabedon scene, I was all in.
I think there is something about how they navigate their identity that is really touching and in some ways, cathartic. They get to be mad and frustrated in an outward way that I wouldn't be able to. I like that. And I think my Rook likes that too.
Anyway, I thought it would be fun to focus more on the fact that they are in fact, a super hot jock. And who doesn't like to watch a super hot jock do their thing? I also thought it would be incredibly funny to stick to the canon of Rook not being able to swim. By the way, I hope you like my rook and her profile will be up on my Tumblr soon enough (which you can find on my profile page).
I hope you enjoyed reading it!
Tsura wasn’t sure what to make of Taash when they first met. A young qunari who also happened to be an adaari? That was bound to make anyone have strong emotions and opinions. Tsura wasn’t always known for being level-headed herself, but her work usually required a certain level of sweet talking and careful wording. Whenever she brought along Taash, it often devolved into threats and kicking down a wall. Which then meant that they would have to run as fast as they could before any major reinforcements could arrive.
But Taash also had a sense of justice, and their encyclopedic knowledge of dragons would most certainly give the team an edge against the elven gods. The way that they handled the Antaam? There was no doubt they were an asset. But what about on a personal level? Their team was small, and as the de facto leader, Tsura wanted to make sure that they could work together, whether they liked each other or not.
Today’s mission wasn’t about that though. It was standard Lords of Fortune stuff, which meant it was really just Tsura and Taash that needed to be there. Sure, they were out there trying to save Thedas from ultimate destruction, but what Isabela wanted, she got. Because she was Isabela, the Pirate Queen, and who was Tsura to say no her?
It was pretty simple on paper. Retrieve some treasure from a cache that another lord had hidden. The lord had been intercepted before they could retrieve it for the final leg of the mission. Of course, as it turned out, retrieving the item was not a simple case of unlocking a chest.
The cache was up a cliffside, overlooking the sea. While there were some indents and branches that indicated a vague path, the original treasure hunter had made it pretty clear that others would have to work for it.
“Of course this couldn’t be easy,” Tsura said. She put her hands on her hips and shook her head.
“I mean, if you fall, you’ll just land in the water. No jagged rocks to fall on at least. Might just take a few tries if you’re really bad at it,” Taash responded.
Tsura continued to stare upwards and then towards the small crevice where the treasure was stored. Then she looked at the water right below it. It’s true there wasn’t anything that could break your spine at least. But that wasn’t the problem.
“Yeah… about that.” She let out an exhale, shaking her head. “I can’t swim. And if I fall, I’m basically gonna sink and die.”
It wasn’t a phobia of water. She knew her way around a ship and could wade up to her hips. She just never actually learned the swimming part of it, as her parents never bothered to teach her. And while she was pretty nimble and acrobatic, even she could tell she might take a few falls before getting the hang of the climb.
Taash was taken aback. “How the hell did you become a Lord of Fortune, then?”
“I just kinda… lied?” She scratched her head in frustration. “I could do everything else Isabela asked and mostly just stuck to inner island stuff,”
“Rivain is nothing but coasts and water. Didn’t think that eventually you would have to swim?”
“Look, I’m a rogue! Always stretching the truth and convincing some sucker to do things for you when you can’t.”
“Ah. So, I’m the sucker in this case, huh?”
Tsura, you idiot.
She pinched the bridge of her nose. “That’s not what I meant. Sorry,”
The dragon hunter stared at her for a moment before busting out laughing and heavily patting Tsura on the back that nearly caused her to stumble face first into the sand. How was it that even at six feet, she somehow felt like a rag doll?
“Relax, Rook. I was kidding. Figured someone who is sarcastic as you would catch that,” the dragon hunter said. “Anyway, hang tight, I got this. Just spot me, alright?”
“Sure.” Even if Tsura couldn’t trust herself to climb up there, her eyes were sharp. What she lacked in swimming ability, she made up for in most other things.
Taash rolled their neck and stretched their arms before leaping upwards towards one of the palm trees. As soon as their foot made contact with the stump, they kicked off of it and managed to grab hold of one of the jagged rocks sticking out of the ledge. They danged for a brief moment before finally planting their feat on another ledge and carefully started climbing.
Whoa.
A person would have to be blindfolded to not notice Taash’s physique at first glance. They were a qunari warrior who towered over essentially everyone on their team, after all. However, as they pulled themselves from rock to rock, Tsura couldn’t help but notice how each of the muscles on their arms and back were so well defined it was as if they’d been carefully carved out of marble. In the past, Tsura would’ve said that Taash looked as though she was built like a god, but now that she’d met Ghilan'nain in person, that would be an insult. No, Taash was…
“You gonna tell me what’s next, or what?” Taash called down to her.
Right. Spotting.
Focus, you dummy.
Tsura cupped her hands over her mouth. “Don’t put your foot there, that part is basically debris.”
“Good eye,” the taller qunari grunted as they continued across and further up.
“Surprising to see a warrior so nimble!” Tsura couldn’t help but call out.
“When you’re hunting dragons, you—oof—have to scale a few cliffsides!” Taash called back.
It wasn’t long before the the dragon hunter neared a small crevice marked by some red powder. The cache.
“There! The branch above you. If you grab onto that, you should be able to reach in.”
“Gotcha.”
Just as they swung from it, the branch snapped. Taash reached out with their left hand and managed to cling onto the crevice, clearly straining every muscle in their arm. They tried to find footing, but there seemed to be no cracks or indents to place even a single toe. They then tried to reach upwards, but that didn’t seem to offer them any luck either.
“Vashedan!” was all Tsura could hear before Taash lost their grip and plunged into the water.
“Shit,” Tsura said, pulling off her boots and wading in up to her knees, before the dragon hunter finally emerged from the waves a few meters away.
“I’m alright. The armor weighed me down a bit.”
Tsura let out an exhale. “That could have been bad. Would have hated to have our best dragon hunter drown.”
“What about you? Were you about to jump in? That would have made two drowned qunari. Anyway, don’t worry, I grabbed the treasure right before I fell.”
“Wait, really?”
“Here.”
Taash tossed her the retrieved treasure. A beautiful golden chalice, adorned with gemstones and intricate designs that looked Tevinter in origin. The rogue squinted and brought it up closer.
“And… it’s a fake.”
“What?”
“This chalice. It’s a fake. These aren’t rubies, they’re just well-polished rhinestones. I have a feeling our treasure hunter who was ‘intercepted’ may have decided to keep the real treasure for themselves and skip town.”
“Well, that’s a load of vashedan.” Taash twisted their braid in their hands, squeezing the excess water. “This is why I only hunt dragons. At worst someone will say they saw a dragonling, but it’s actually a wyvern. And it’s not because they’re lying. It’s just because they’re idiots. And wyverns are still pretty cool, I guess. Not as cool as dragons, but you know,”
Tsura couldn’t help but stifle a laugh. Taash was pretty funny, actually. She was surprised she hadn’t noticed it sooner.
“That was still really impressive though,” she said.
“Oh yeah?” Taash paused for a moment and their dark eyes stared deeply into the smaller qunari’s golden ones.
“From a—uh—cliff scaling standpoint? It was good. The Lords of Fortune are smart to have hired you.” Tsura finally broke eye contact and went back to looking over the chalice.
“Oh.” Taash finally let go of their braid and flicked it back over their shoulder. “Well, you’re an okay spotter I guess.”
“Only okay?”
“Well, I fell on that last part, so yeah. Okay spotter.”
“Wow. Thanks, Taash. Super helpful,”
“But you’re a good leader willing to risk their life, so I guess it evens out. And the Lords of Fortune are lucky to have hired you, too. Isabela would have been pissed if you gave her this fake crap.”
Tsura cracked a half smile. “Well, let’s go tell her anyway. Then we can head back. I think Lucanis is cooking tonight, so at least we’ll get back to a good meal,”
Thus ended their short and unsuccessful quest. Well, perhaps not entirely unsuccessful. One thing that Tsura was certain of now at least what she thought of Taash.
And perhaps “like” wasn’t a strong enough word for what she was feeling right now.

Reigen’s confession scene: original Japanese manga text analysis and translation
I had a ton of fun translating the Japanese text from the “no one will save me” Mob headspace scene and it’s fantastic practice, so I decided to personally translate the raws from Reigen’s confession scene and analyze that a bit.
More under the cut! (Very long :0)
Reigen: なんの力も無いんだ!— I dont have any powers!
持ってないんだよ!— None at all!
Reigen: 嘘… — A lie…
最初から嘘だったんだ… — From the start, it was a lie.
Reigen: ちょっと失礼。— Excuse me for a moment.
花粉症かな? — Hay fever, right?
俺はよく嘘をつく。— I lie all the time.
客にも… — To my clients…
Reigen: お前にもな… — and to you…
初めてお前が事務所に来た日… — That day, when you came to my office for the first time…
俺は嘘をついた。— I lied to you.
お前の悩みをった気で相談に乗った。— I advised you as if I understood your struggles.
お前は俺を簡単に信じた。だから… — And you believed me easily. So…
お前を騙して仕事をやらせた。— I tricked you into working for me.
あの日から今日まで… — From that day, up until now…
Reigen: ずっと… — The entire time…
ずっと利用し続けてたんだ... — I continued to use you the entire time…
俺… — I…
本当は何も知らねぇんだ。— I honestly don’t know shit
Reigen: 超能力のこと… — about psychic powers…
Reigen: これが俺の正体だ… — This is my true self.
今まで師匠面してすまなかったな… — I’m sorry for acting like your master up until now.
だけど最後なんだ。もう少し言わせてくれ。— But this is the last time. So hear me out just a little longer.
Reigen: お前だけが特別な訳じゃない。— You’re not the only one who’s special.
ニ面性なんて誰にでもある。— Everyone has a second side to them.
これは今でも本当に思うことだ。— This is what I truly believe, even now.
皆お前と同じだ。俺も… — You are the same are everyone else. The same as me, too…
だからそんなに悩むな。— So you don’t have to worry so much.
いや… 悩むんでもいいか… — No… worrying is fine, too.
それもまた当たり前のことだ。— That is also a natural thing to do.
ここだけの話… 俺は隠してる自分の本当の姿が大嫌いなんだが… — Just between you and me… I absolutely despise the true nature of my secret self.
それとは別として相談所での日々は嫌いじゃなかった。— Despite this, I didn’t hate those days we spent at the consultation office.
俺には「嘘」があったからお前と知り合えた訳だし… — Because I had “lies”, I got to get to know you…
モブにもその「力」があったから… 今のお前があるんじゃないか。— Because you have your “powers”… you are the person you are today, right?
Reigen: えーと… Um…
要するにだ… — In short…
お前は… — You…
そのままでいい。— are fine the way you are.
もう俺がいなくても大丈夫だ。— You will be okay even if I’m not here anymore.
大丈夫。— You will be okay.
そろそろ受け入れてやれ。自分を!— Accept it a little at a time. Accept yourself!
お前なら… モブならそれができるって事を…俺は知ってる!!— Because it’s you…. Because you’re you, Mob, you can do it. I know you can!!

Notes:
- なんの力も無いんだ! — I dont have any powers!
Reigen uses a widely-unused kanji here, 「無い」 or “nai”. A.K.A, Japanese negation. It’s almost always written with kana (興味がない、続けない、etc). I imagine the kanji was included here for greater emphasis. Reigen does actually use another unused kanji later in this conversation though (事 instead of こと) so I also think there’s a case to be made for it being an intentional decision made to make Reigen’s speech patterns seem eccentric, but I would need to look at much more of his manga dialogue to confirm that.
- 本当は何も知らねぇんだ。— I honestly don’t know shit
Okay. He doesn’t actually use the shit word here, but cursing is a bit strange in Japanese because of how tone can be subtly indicated by verb form, something we can’t really do in English. Reigen uses a very casual, rude form of 「知らない」 that I think is most faithfully represented by a curse word. He’s obviously trying to put negative emphasis. The Crunchyroll sub put it as “I don’t know a damn thing”. I chose “I honestly don’t know shit” because it’s a bit less of a deviation from the raw dialogue.
- 今まで師匠面してすまなかったな… — I’m sorry for acting like your master up until now.
I thought the use of 「師匠面して」 was interesting. 「師匠」 is “Shishou/Master”, which is straightforward, but 「面」 is a kanji that means “mask, face, surface” and it’s basic readings are “メン/men”, “おもて/omote” and “つら/tsura”. Reigen uses a lesser-known reading and meaning of this kanji, so much so that ONE included furigana over the kanji to clarify the reading. 「面」 here is read as 「づら」and is used as a suffix to mean “looking like a…, acting as if a….”.
お前だけが特別な訳じゃない。— You’re not the only one who’s special.
「訳」 (wake) is my mortal enemy, because it’s a word in Japanese that’s so close to being a particle but isn’t a particle. It’s a word indicating a conclusion reached from personal reasoning or evidence, or circumstance, or meaning related to a situation. It’s abstract, so it can be a bit tricky deciding how best to translate a sentence it’s used in. Sometimes it is not directly translated at all, which is what I did here, taking it more as a subtextual indicator of context than as a word in the text itself. However, this is out of personal preference, and I would totally accept it being translated more overtly as “You’re not the only one with special circumstances.”
- ここだけの話… 俺は隠してる自分の本当の姿が大嫌いなんだが… — Just between you and me… I absolutely despise the true nature of my secret self.
Two notes about this one:
「ここだけの話」 is a phrase that directly translates to “this is a discussion for only right here”, but that would sound kind of weird to say in English, and it means the exact same thing as “just between you and me”.
「隠してる自分の本当の姿」 is a DOOZY. It’s a little clunky, but I think it fits for Reigen to be a bit dramatic with it. I sort of played around with it a little bit, but strictly translated, it means “my hidden self’s true form”.
- 大丈夫だよ。行こう。— I will be okay. Let’s go.
This happens in the scene where Mob and Shigeo accept each other (not a part of Reigen’s confession), but I included it for a good reason. This isn’t so much a translation note as it is a commentary on the manga, but I think I like the manga version of the scene just a little better than the anime, just for the “大丈夫” thing between Reigen and Mob. Mob’s referencing Reigen’s previous words, 「もう俺がいなくても大丈夫だ。大丈夫。」 — “You will be okay even if I’m not here anymore. You will be okay”, which are beautifully enhanced by the sudden panel of Reigen watching Mob in that moment with a small smile, silently reassuring him that it’s true. It’s such a small detail but it means so much to me, and I’m a little sad it wasn’t fully preserved in the anime. But, yknow how it is. Not everything can make it in.

A kitchen to the tavern for that Valentines Themed One Shot.
Admittedly I had a lot of difficulty with this one as the shape isn’t one of my strongest suits. The food assets and dishes were made by Tsurakeru who also helped me a lot with creating the other assets. If it wasn’t for her work, this would be looking very bare haha.
