I had a lot of fun with this one because I feel like these two would get on like a house on fire. With easygoing banter and teasing and I just love drawing Yxala with a big ol grin on her face hehe

Her nickname? Hellraiser. Why? Because she raises hell and that’s pretty metal

I just adore the idea of Rin just being completely chaotic and treating Daryl like a huge obelisk. I just love the scramble and how she pulls her ponytail to make her point perfectly clear. It’s genuinely so funny and really charming

Especially with Daryl grabbing Rin with her little leggies kicking out like a cat wriggling. Like NO!!!!!

Daryl's hair is so much fun, and she has such a cool vibe. also love how utterly huge she is. perfect size for a nasty little gremlin to climb like a mountain

I keep getting a bit higgledy piggledy in being active in places so I’m posting my Christmas dnd discord icon here of the npcs I’m playing in my campaign

Astraeus [belongs to @tsurakerusartandcraft ], a grumpy white dragon child and Duvetyn, my gyarados dragonborn/triton

They’re both the opposite in terms of personality but I love them

Been thinking a lot about my art lately haha, rambling under the cut

I remember when I first started and I was so excited to try and replicate older anime when I was a little kid. I took a lot of pride in trying to draw everything exactly the same as my references. I’d spend such a long time on each and every detail, smudging the pages until they were grey with fingerprints and crinkled from frustration. But at the end of it, I’d be satisfied because it reached my standards.

But when I entered secondary school, it felt like there were levels of expectations put about me changing it. My art teacher would confiscate my personal sketchbooks and I’d rebel by not doing the work, which in turn would land me in detention. [a lot, I wasn’t very studious either] I was told anime and cartoons were banned from any of my studies in class, which was also encouraged by my family to tell me to draw more realistically.

I understand a bit more with the intentions behind it now, to learn the fundamentals in order to mould style. It came from a good place I believe.

The more I drew anime, the more I got bullied and well intentioned comments felt condescending. I ended up getting into drawing other styles and studying those forms as a sense of rebellion as well as distancing myself further from the things I enjoyed drawing. I think being a teenager, I felt like I had a lot to prove and a need for respect as well as validation. I experimented a lot and my work got more emotional due to my growing frustration of not being satisfied with my style because it wasn’t what I felt people wanted from me.

Because I ended up losing sight of why I wanted to draw in the first place, because it was fun. It stopped being fun when I felt like I had to change in order to be more valid as well as respected. I stopped liking myself somewhere down the line.

It’s only more recently I’ve been letting myself indulge in those styles again and it feels like some pieces are fitting back together again. It feels like I finally don’t care about what other people think and if they have to label it, I wear it with pride and it makes me happy that people can see what influences my work.

Sometimes the echoes of my ancient doubts bloom in my mind but I am happier, I’m having a lot more fun with drawing and being able to finally let go of so many years of doubt and frustration. It finally feels like I can be me, as corny and cheesy as it sounds haha
