Story - summarized

Dodora used to be a performer for Mercury Era, but she recently dropped the contract, stirring rumors about her talent and background. Her agent - also her most dedicated fan - sticks by her side through the ordeal.

In response, Dodora sets up her own studio so she can continue performing and singing. She makes sure to keep the focus on her and not on her family or her "mysterious" origins.

The agent is nervous during the big press conference that will officially mark Dodora's return, as everyone is expecting Dodora to change. She stuns them all by sticking to a simple, yet sweet design. She had broken from Mercury Era to stay true to herself, and she'll keep doing that!

Connections

-Mercury Era is the modern version of Flying Star Entertainment. You can learn more about his investment and eventual purchase of the company in his Reflection for Glittering Era.

-The reason Dodora wants to keep her family and past a secret is because she is an Envoy, arriving here after the death of the God of Styling (see Leonid's Reflection for Prophecy for more). She had lost her memories at first, was taken in by a kind family, and now she's a powerful influencer who doesn't age like normal humans.

Fun Facts

-This Reflection may be short, but it's a perfect example of the Unreliable Narrator storytelling device. The agent is such a huge fan that they can't see Dodora's faults. And at first glance, Dodora seems like a spoiled diva - until you learn she's an Envoy and trying to keep it a secret.

-Each Envoy is connected to one (or more, in Caprico's case) country in Miraland, and Dodora is tied to Ninir. All her suits (except for the December Troupe suit) are Indexed under Ninir.

Originally when I wrote this song, it says “we are the kings”. I felt it was important to stress that the girls I envisioned are not answerable to anyone. They make their own rules. During production, they changed “kings” to “queens”. I realize I did not mind, since it gave the song another empowering angle. Both Anne and I are LGBTQ+ allies. By saying “we are the queens”, the song gets a whole other colorful and empowering dimension.

Narrator: All of the reporters start speaking to their respective cameras.

Reporter: Hello. As you can see, this is the first press conference from Dodora's studio.

Reporter: You must all be wondering if Dodora will lean into her scandal on the net and adopt a more mature, sexier look?

Reporter: Or will she be in something regal for a return-of-the-queen story?

Reporter: Oh, here she comes!

Narrator: The crowd stirs as countless lenses flash in succession.

Narrator: Everything is going great, yet I'm more nervous than Dodora.

Narrator: I stand backstage, providing moral support as usual.

Narrator: She takes the stage to a lively tune.

Narrator: No one expected her to be in a plain, cute wool dress with a girly handbag, looking like a show biz rookie
