Thank you for the meal
Finally done with Omicrons. Doing this on and off alongside Dawntrail made me compared it to Living Memory and that one Solution 9 scene.
Which interestingly I was doing earlier Omicron alongside a leveling Culinarian and Studium as a Post-EW thing.
Dawntrail be the Culinarian Expansion? Shokugeki no FFXIV? This game made me Go eat tacos. Hard shell tacos. not too big....
In Living Memory, food for holographic(?) replicants of memories of dead people is tasteless to the living. It merely serve as a "something done in life" and food taste how it should taste to memories the replicants have.
While in the Last Dregs, the taste and sensation of food while being eaten by Hylnyan is replicated by the Omicrons for the dead spirits to try and remember their past.
Although this guy might be doing this more for new experiences instead of memories.
And in Solution 9 all your food is in a handy dandy space pack /MRE / caloriemate. What presentation to please the eye and aroma to tease and been pack in a handy dandy pack for convenience sake without any personal touches. Sharlayan and Koana have another forewarning coming if all they want is fast handy dandy MREs.
A lifetime of carrot derived dishes and tasteless bread Foruchenault. This might have been in what calming Meteion has done to avoid a lifetime of space carrot food and archon loaf
Food is something we don't think about sometimes. In my own case I visited a town I once lived in for the sake of eating shredded chicken noodles in tomato sauce that I used to have as a kid. The stall is no longer around now but there has been close replications elsewhere, sauce dependent. but yeah It was for the sake of nostalgia.
I do have nostalgia food in terms of snacks and meals. But there's nothing I can do when my local shops no longer import Tronky and I can't be bothered to ship in some. Went and settle for Nutella replacement instead.
Comfort food. Hence stuff like Ice Cream and Popcorn showed up in Living Memory. Is an amusement park after all. And players probably eaten ice cream or pop corn at some point in time.
Do Cornservant quest line. all hail the Corn for knowing food that is easy on the stomach and comfort food. And food associated with memories. All this talk of food and memories make Solution 9 and Living Memory sound like a nightmare under calm waters.

So uh
Congratulations to Arisu on becoming my most powerful creature
I don't think I'll do that again with any other one hfhfhcb
#shut up kevin#ffxiv ramblings#meanwhile she WILL BE my third creature to finish Endwalker#because I spent an hour queueing during which I did The Rising quests and 2 sets of tribal dailies and some dwuadron management#(and then decided to run an alliance raid roulette and call it a day)#so the rest of Endwalker's titular quest is for tomorrow

I have decided against my better judgement to be weird about the Dawntrail MSQ
and we can't talk about an expansion set in the fantasy americas without talking about
COLONIALISM
oh yeah, we're going there baby
So disclaimer that I may be brazilian, but my ass is white as hell, so take everything I say with a grain of salt. Also if any native americans have made posts on this please let me know so I can boost their analysis as well
Also also I'm more than happy to delete this post if I mess up. I'm genuinely trying to make a thoughtful analysis, so if I fuck up just say the word and this thing is gone from this website
Oh also also also, Dawntrail MSQ spoilers ahead!
So FFXIV has had a... messy relationship with colonialism over the years
The fact that the major antagonists for the first half of A Realm Reborn a literally called "beast man tribes" is absolutely not a good start to this story
Add to that the fact that The Twelve (Eorzea's gods) are shown to be kind all powerful deities, while the Primals (the tribal gods) are evil spirits summoned to bring destruction to the world
and yeah no ARR is not good with that shit. It's EXTREMELY not good. If I hadn't been told it got better later on I would have dropped this shit before I got to Titan
But they have been taking steps to unfuck things. First we're shown that even the "civilized societies" (in this case the catholic elves) can summon Primals, then that Primal summoning isn't an actual native custom but was introduced by foreigners with malicious intent, and that not all "beast man" practice that
Then they changed the names of the "Beast Man Tribe Quests" to "Tribal Quests" and then finally to "Allied Society Quest"
Which would have been an empty gesture had like half of the post-Shadowbringer patches, as well a lot of Endwalker, not been about forming alliances with those people and working together with them, recognizing that they have as much right to the land and to life as any Eorzean, this all culminating on the Primals being summoned with the express purpose of helping you protect the world you all share
I guess they realized that they couldn't have their big bad for most of the game be the evil expansionist empire, if they didn't like actually reflect in their own imperialist fantasies they were propagating
Then the teaser trailer for Dawntrail drops and everyone in the fandom is like "wait... are we gonna do a colonialism?"
And memes were abound of how all those lessons from before don't apply to the "New World" of Tural
THANKFULLY the actual questline leading to Dawntrail helped to settle some of those worries
We're not going to Tural to explore a new uncharted land, but are actually being invited over by the local royalty in order to aid them with their right of succession. We get introduced to the nation of Tuliyollal and how it's a thriving land with its own culture and not just a "terra nil" waiting to be colonized
Still there are some worries that this is gonna turn out poorly and that we're just gonna end up being white saviors
But I think they managed to avoid that pretty well
For starters neither the Scions nor the Warrior of Light are the protagonists of this story. You're all simply supporting character's in Wuk Lamat's story
A story that centers her people, her culture, and her family
And it's not even one culture. They don't portray Tuliyollal as this monolithic mish mash of every single native american culture
No, the lands of Tural are in fact comprised of multiple different people's and nations, each of them with their own customs and traditions which are informed by their history and the lands they live in
In fact learning about their cultures and partaking in their customs is the whole point of the Rite of Succession. It's all set up so that the next Dawnservant would be someone who understands and respects each of the peoples that comprise Tural
(I could, and probably will, write about what Dawntrail has to say about what makes a good ruler)
And our girl, Wuk Lamat, is shown to be the rightful heir because she really goes out of her way to understand each of the nations and show her appreciation for their customs
Putting her well above her Sharlyaboo brother Koana, The King of Unresolved Daddy Issues Zoral Ja, and whatever the fuck is going on with Bakool Ja Ja
(I joke, I love my two headed traumatized dumbass)
Tho I will admit that this does end up giving the tribes a somewhat "planet of the hats" vibe. Like their named NPCs are diverse and interesting, but you can just assume that most random NPCs of any given people are gonna act according to the stereotype
Which is unfortunate, but I have hopes that with the next few patches and the addition of Dawntrail's own Allied Society Quests, we'll get to see more to them
But that... is only up to lvl95 and the end of the Yok'Tural (southern Tural) segment
because then we get to Xak'Tural (northern Tural) and holy shit does it feel like they drop the ball there
Like they really COULDN'T keep themselves from making Shaaloani a fucking Wild West map
Instead of doing anything with the actual cultures and histories of Native North American people, they just do wild fucking west
Because there's ceruleum in them thar hills! And apparently Koana turned most of the region into Sharlyaboos too
So we get a bunch of Wild West frontier towns mixed with native american tribes and mud brick cities. We have trains and guns and a sheriff and a duel at high noon, but now everyone got native american names
At least there's one group off to the northern side of the map who seems to stick to tradition and live in harmony with nature, and that group is shown respect by the other people of the region
so we at the very least avoid the "cowboys vs indians" crap, but my god does that region just feel bad compared to everything else they had done so far
Then we get to the big twist: THE CYBERPUNK PORTION OF THE GAME
because yes, we go full fucking cyberpunk
so turns out that a whole segment of Xak'Tural got colonized by the kingdom of Alexandria, including the lands of the Shetona (Erenville's people)
And I feel like this is the most poignant section of the MSQ when it comes to colonialism
Because here we have Alexandria, an empire that has reached the limit of what it can do sustain itself on its own world, and so has decided to spread out and colonize others in order to gain resources
We see the Shetona and other natives of the region being separated from their families and kept in isolation from the rest of their people
And tho Queen Sphene is shown to be a kind and caring ruler who gives people a choice when it comes to joining the empire, WELL SHE'S STILL THE QUEEN OF A FUCKING EMPIRE
Like her form of kindness and just stagnant peace is put in stark contrast with Wuk Lamat's own love for her people and more proactive pursuit of happiness and harmony
(again with the "what makes a ruler theme")
Also the people that choose to be assimilated into the Alexandrian Empire? Yeah, they're doing so because Alexandria has advanced medical technology and you can only receive their aid if you're a citizen
Not only that, but you have to be a working citizen. We see later on a character being denied medical aid, because he lost his job, thanks to the King's decision and at no fault of his own
yeah this is cyberpunk, not just sci-fi
ALSO can we talk about how the technology used for that medical aid and the little gizmo they give you to signify you're now a citizen, will literally erase the memory of the people you lost
So the Turali who are assimilated into Alexandrian culture not only lose ties to their culture and their loved ones, but are not allowed to grieve their loss, because what they once had is slowly being erased
How their choices add up to survive on their own OR be assimilated
How this all takes place IN NORTH FUCKING AMERICA!
THE CYBERPUNK CITY IS LITERALLY SET IN THIS WORLD'S EQUIVALENT TO THE UNITED STATES
So yeah, I don't think is is accidental. I genuinely thing that they're making a point about the realities of imperialism and colonialism, as well as taking some shots at the US while they're at it
Of course this part is still centered around Wuk Lamat, and instead of having a moment of "the only ones who can stop the evil white europeans are the GOOD white europeans", we have Wuk Lamat be the one to save the day, defeat Sphene, and save her people from the colonizing empire
So I would like to argue that everything that happens from lvl97 onwards is them picking up the ball again and making a real point
buuuut that comes at the cost of us being unable to engage with the native peoples of Xak'Tural outside of the context of colonialism
Which genuinely fucking sucks, and I hope it will be remedied with the post-Dawntrail patches
As well as handling the whole shared land situation they ended up with and how this might end up in a Land Back sort of movement, and oh boy can they mess shit up royally there
So in conclusion FFXIV has had a messy relationship with colonialism and imperialist fantasies and tropes, but the devs seem to be making a concerted effort to undo their mistakes and show respect in their depictions of american natives
They still fuck up
boy do they
but they're at least trying, and I'd say Dawntrail so far has been quite well executed
so yeah, look forward to more insane rambles like this one I guess

This was so random, the 1980s ElfQuest board game popped up on Facebook marketplace - in New Zealand with local delivery by hand 🚚😲
I’m a gamer, but I hadn’t had my eye on this fairly rare collectible, since games with great IP are often not all that fun. But you know what? I tried it and had a great time with my teens! No whining, I’m amazed 😂
Full review below…
The even cooler thing is that it’s actually two games in one. The “introductory” version is an abstract tile exploration and clue gathering mission, themed on the Original Quest reuniting the elf tribes with their Palace (actually spaceship, shhh). Play takes an hour, tops.
This strongly reminded me of my favorite board game when I was a kid - Enchanted Forest - because the overall idea is to find the tiles with hidden clues on them, and be the first to guess which one has been set aside at the beginning.
The additional element in ElfQuest is that you have to explore to find the clues, then also find the location of the tile that matches the winning clue. You can’t guess without traveling to the secret location first, and a wrong guess means you lose! There’s definitely strategy in addition to minor memorizing. I think this fits the quest story well.
Each player represents a different tribe, and starts in their home location at one corner (The Holt, Sorrow’s End, Blue Mountain, and the Frozen Mountains). There’s a minor amount of combat in the introductory game, when pawns occupy the same spot.
This is a potential tense moment here, with all three of us gathered next to two clue tiles (the wooden clue tokens are my own replacement parts). But you can easily spend the whole game avoiding confrontation and still win.
Combat just means the attacker must roll an 8 or better on 2D6. The loser is pushed away two spaces. This can be important at the end, because once a player has seen all the clues, others might race towards whatever tile they appear to be targeting as the winning spot.
I was super lucky that the Palace (elf home) was right next to the last clue, because my 15 year old was hot on my heels and willing to risk a 50/50 guess. Go Backs for the win!!
I’m excited to play the full game, for several reasons:
1. You have the option of winning cooperatively or competitively, and this can change during the course of the game. This fits the ElfQuest story much better than pure competition. Games with optional alliances aren't super common.
2. Character cards! Of course the point of having a great IP is to use the wonderful characters and art. The full game has a lot of bonus cards, characters can change groups or be captured, and tribal abilities are asymmetrical (that is to say, your choice of tribe actually matters to gameplay).
3. Way more strategy! One player is the enemy Guttlekraw, who controls the trolls and races to finish a dome around the palace so the elves can't win.
Reviews said this game is complicated, but it really doesn’t look that complicated to me. If you’re not much of a gamer, then sure, but the rules were not very long and easy enough to understand.
Here’s all the components in the box. Only three cardboard counters were missing in mine, easily replaced with spare parts (more on that next time). It even still has the Mayfair Games feedback postcard and the pop out cardboard trash for all the sending star tokens 😜✨🚮
The funniest part is the fold out paper grid... seems unnecessary, but ok.
Essentially what the introductory game teaches you is how exploration works, which is actually mildly educational for younger kids. Each terrain has a different number printed on it, and you only get 14 movement points per turn. So there's a little bit of addition involved. I'd say kids from age 7ish could play independently, depending on whether they're prone to blurt out secret information and intentions :-)
That's all for this time! My kids actually want to play the full game soon, so hopefully it won't be too long until I review the rest. Shade and sweet water until then.
#elfquest#board game review#my kids actually liked something#i only had to buy them boba tea#and craft supplies#but actual fun was haf

Netanyahu’s disastrous strategy regarding Gaza and Hamas is part of what makes him Israel’s worst prime minister, but it’s not the only factor. Previous Israeli prime ministers, too, blundered into bloody wars on the basis of misguided strategies and faulty advice from their military and intelligence advisers.
Netanyahu stands out from them for his refusal to accept responsibility, and for his political machinations and smear campaigns since October 7. He blames IDF generals and nourishes the conspiracy theory that they, in alliance with the protest movement, somehow allowed October 7 to happen.
Netanyahu believes that he is the ultimate victim of that tragic day. Convinced by his own campaign slogans, he argues that he is the only one who can deliver Israel from this valley of shadows to the sunlit uplands of “total victory.” He refuses to consider any advice about ending the war and continues to prioritize preserving his coalition, because he appears incapable of distinguishing between his own fate, now tainted by tragic failure, and that of Israel.
Many around the world assume that Israel’s war with Hamas has proceeded according to some plan of Netanyahu’s. This is a mistake. Netanyahu has the last word as prime minister and head of the emergency war cabinet, but he has used his power mainly to prevaricate, procrastinate, and obstruct. He delayed the initial ground offensive into Gaza, hesitated for weeks over the first truce and hostage-release agreement in November, and is now doing the same over another such deal with Hamas. For the past six months, he has prevented any meaningful cabinet discussion of Israel’s strategic goals. He has rejected the proposals of his own security establishment and the Biden administration. He presented vague principles for “the day after Hamas” to the cabinet only in late February, and they have yet to be debated.
However one views the war in Gaza—as a justified war of defense in which Hamas is responsible for the civilian casualties it has cynically hidden behind, or as an intentional genocide of the Palestinian people, or as anything in between—none of it is Netanyahu’s plan. That’s because Netanyahu has no plan for Gaza, only one for remaining in power. His obstructionism, his showdowns with generals, his confrontations with the Biden administration—all are focused on that end, which means preserving his far-right coalition and playing to his hard-core nationalist base.
Meanwhile, he’s doing what he has always done: wearing down and discrediting his political opponents in the hope of proving to an exhausted and traumatized public that he’s the only alternative. So far, he’s failing. Polls show that an overwhelming majority of Israelis want him gone. But Netanyahu is fending off calls to hold an early election until he believes he is within striking distance of winning.
Netanyahu’s ambition has consumed both him and Israel. To regain and remain in office, he has sacrificed his own authority and parceled out power to the most extreme politicians. Since his reelection in 2022, Netanyahu is no longer the center of power but a vacuum, a black hole that has engulfed all of Israel’s political energy. His weakness has given the far right and religious fundamentalists extraordinary control over Israel’s affairs, while other segments of the population are left to pursue the never-ending quest to end his reign.
One man’s pursuit of power has diverted Israel from confronting its most urgent priorities: the threat from Iran, the conflict with the Palestinians, the desire to nurture a Westernized society and economy in the most contested corner of the Middle East, the internal contradictions between democracy and religion, the clash between tribal phobias and high-tech hopes. Netanyahu’s obsession with his own destiny as Israel’s protector has caused his country grievous damage.
Most Israelis already realize that Netanyahu is the worst of the 14 prime ministers their country has had in its 76 years of independence. But in the future, Jews might even remember him as the leader who inflicted the most harm on his people since the squabbling Hasmonean kings brought civil war and Roman occupation to Judea nearly 21 centuries ago. As long as he remains in power, he could yet surpass them.
Benjamin Netanyahu Is Israel’s Worst Prime Minister Ever

@gatheredfates so I asked what your plans may be for Glamours for the new expansion as I was struggling. I thought about when I first came across your work and I think it might have been when SB came out (?). This is very lame of me, but I started thinking about that expansion and how cool a lot (okay all) the side quests were - from raids, to the alliance run to the Tribal quests, it's content that I have only recently run, but holds a special place in my heart. So! Decided to go for decidedly SB themed Glamours - starting with the aiming top from Orbonne! I love the combo of practical, if ornately decorated body piece, and frilly shirt with a hint of jewellery. No screenshots sadly as PS4 is a special boy - but thank you for the inspiration!

Tonight, we're clearing out the last dredges of Heavensward Content by getting the Vanu Vanu to Bloodsworn and then completing the HW Tribal Alliance quests! After that, we'll be doing the level 60 Stormblood job quests for BRD, RDM, SMN, SCH and DRK! I kind of expect that to take up the whole stream; if it doesn't, then we'll be continuing with Stormblood MSQ by finding out what Meffrid wants with us!
-
I'm a veteran player of FFXIV who's been playing since ARR, and we're working through the whole game on a fresh character at minim item level (and, where applicable, no item level)! If you want to join in on the fun, keep an eye out for Shizune Dazkar on Aether's Party Finder! If you wanna watch the action, catch me on Twitch every Sunday starting at 4:30 Central, and every Tuesday and Wednesday starting at 7:30 Central! I'm actually trying to make affiliate, so any views you guys can give me would be super appreciated!

My new Sona, the Cyberpunk Argonian Scales-Like-Ash :3
The Lore (cause I'm a TES Nerd, don't worry a TL:DR is at the bottom):
Scales-Like-Ash, then known as Reezal-Tei in Jel, is born 2E 554 in the vulcanic wasteland of Stonefalls to the secluded and nomadic Ash-Walker Tribe. The small Tribe with the black scales and white tribal markings, use their nomadic ways to hide from the Great Houses and Slavers of Morrowind.
Ash trained from a hatchling with bows, knives and magic, with the goal to protect his tribe from nearby threats. He's always been an curious, a knowledge thirsty but also adventurous type, with the latter not rarely getting him into trouble.
In 2E 572 his Tribe was attacked by deserted and fleeing Akaviri forces, after their defeat in Stonefalls, on their way back to Akavir. Most of the tribe was wiped out in the blink of an eye, with a few remaining survivors scattered in the wind.
Devistated by the loss of his family and friends, Ash pleadged his service as Arcanist to Hermaeus Mora, the deadric prince of knowledge, in order to gain knowledge and experience to prevent and help other Tribes affected from similar fates across Morrowind and Blackmarsh. In that time he also stopped using his Jel Name and became Scales-Like-Ash.
After years of traveling Tamriel, helping, questing and serving Mora in his quest for knowledge, the Three Banner War started in 2E 280 and calling Argonians, Dunmer and Nords to arms, forming the Ebonheart Pact. Knowing the other Alliances are a threat to every Saxhleel and their way of live in Pact Territory, Ash followed the call and joined the forces.
Three Years of fighting to gain control over Cyrodiil, fate struck in a way no-one anticipated. In the Battle for an Elder Scroll at Arrius Keep, west of the Imperial City, Ash managed to grab one of the mythical scrolls, a lightning spell from an Altmer battlemage, missed the Saxhleel and accidentally hit the scroll, resulting in an magical explosion.
After a bright flash and ear shattering thunder, the Argonian and Scroll were gone, leaving nothing but a smoking hole in the ground.
Bruised, battered, with ringing ears and only tatters of what used to be his tribal armor, Ash awoke in something, that looked like a warehouse but... somewhat off... Everywhere was metal, something like bricks, light in tubes and somehow no wood in sight. His first thought was he's in a dwemer ruin but he knew that there are no Dwemer ruins in Cyrodiil besides that the metal wasn't the usual bronze and no steaming pipes in sight. "Kaoc'... What happened...?"
After gathering his bearings he stumbled out of the weird warehouse only to find a completely different Tamriel. Towers of Stone and metal reaching towards the clouds, scraping the sky. Metal boxes replacing horses. Sirens bleating in the distance. Rancid and foul smells fill the air.
Almost vomiting from the sensory overload he spots a young khajiit woman standing near a railing observing the road.
"E-excuse me... What... Is this place?" Ash asked with shacking voice "Hrrrm? Well this is the Imperial City, silly lizard, too much skooma last night, yes? This one's been there." answered the khajiit with a slight giggle. "No... This can't be... I... Tell me, what year is it?" "So much of that stuff that you even forgot the year? By S'rendarr you lightweights", with a sigh she said, "It's the 17th of Rains Hand in the Year 634 of the 10th Era..."
A shock of realization went through Ash... The explosion didn't simply relocated him, it sent him into the far future. Into an dystopian futuristic Tamriel...
So that's the Lore so far :D
Thanks for reading my Lore and everyone else who doesn't want to read this wall of text or deal with my atrocious english (I don't blame you) the TL:DR of the story is
Magic Explosion sent lizard into a far dystopian future

Having played through the Endwalker Tribal Alliance Quest, I have two thoughts:
Why didn't we get one of those spiffy radios? C'mon, I want one for my house. Let me listen to Moon FM, Talkingway. I've earned it.
Where the fuck is my Normal Falcon Mount? I've been waiting for that thing since Stormblood! Gimme my giant mega-bird that's free of glowy nonsense. Let me take to the skies on twenty feet of raptor that's big enough to hunt cows for food.
