Cleaning out the patio where there’s a shelve in there with old letters, mail and my mom found this. This entertainment paper from 2006 when I was 12 years old. I remember those days reading the newspaper when my grandparents were still alive and to see what movies and tv shows are playing for that day. I’m so glad my mom kept it and she did use my Skelanimals wallet 😆

Now I’m going to use it because I have Skelanimals purse and backpack from Hot topic also I got the blanket. Lots of nostalgia of happier simple time.

I absolutely hate how so many books are marketed rn as "x beloved tale meets y beloved trope!" or "feminist hot take on old story that was pretty vague and open to interpretation to begin with!", etc. Partly because it's only accurate around 50% of the time, and partly because the rest of the time that's still a stupid description of what the story is about. It's a cheap, simple way to sell you on what you already know rather than make the effort to figure out how to promote something new.

A year or two ago I fell for that type of bs and as a result had to force myself through one of the worst books I've ever read. Grammar and spelling mistakes everywhere, pitiful characterisation, a nonsensical plot that dropped off two thirds of the way through and multiple unwanted pop culture references - it made me angry with how disappointing it was, and moreover it made me angry with myself for falling for such a flimsy premise.

It also made me wary of other books that are marketed that way, so if I hadn't come across, for example, Chloe Gong or Xiran Jay Zhao, who actually do deliberately create works largely inspired by older stories, I would have given them a miss - luckily I bought books by both of these authors before reading the crappy book that betrayed me, so I already knew they were good. But I'll always hesitate from now on to pick up anything that announces itself as a "retelling" or "new spin on (thing)", because it's just not enough information.

And I know this isn't the fault of the writers, it's the publishers trying to play off the things they know young people like, but it's still infuriating. Fuck the tiktokification of book descriptions.
