Life bringer | Xiao
Fun little concept for Xiao in the life death AU
I kept going back and forth between candles and birds, but ultimately I went with birds, as his Chinese title somewhat means general giant golden bird? XD
I went for a more colorful approach to his wings as a homage to the jian nian/fragmented creamics decorations on temple rooftops :)
(It’s kinda hard to translate jian nian (剪黏) as I don’t think it has an official translation. They’re kinda like trencadis but different? Kinda hard to explain but basically you cut ceramic bowls into fragments then you make art pieces with them.)
This rest is just xiao being xiao.

At least I am not myself when I am exhausted. And I don't know any other way to begin besides being myself (Park in Valencia that takes geometry to get to it, the long plane and trencadis vases and trees which escaped Dr. Seuss) and is being myself choosing the right way to begin or speaking and seeing what happens. Am I moving my choice between different scopes? Is choice in my stomach better than choice in my throat. Imagine choice in front of you like the Felix Colegrave star of tessellating sides. (I just came so much it hit my face three times. There was so much cum, it felt excessive.) And I had so much to say until I began writing and then writing had something to say. A lot of beautiful things these last few days so the file cabinet I have on beautiful things gets bigger and bigger. I wish profoundly that reality didn't operate like that: in percentages and logarithms. Beauty diminishes as life goes on because you've experienced more of it, or maybe it just feels like exciting, and yes, one must practice to reanimate its value, or quality again. Charlie always bothers me when I qualify an observation like that. I think, I do just want something to exist as an idea and you listen to it. And no, I don't understand what beauty even is. I just care less and less about striking things to make room for every thing I have ever experienced. (I can taste my tonsils.)
This evening, the dock. This evening this evening! Lightning prowled long woeful distances. I was nothing watching something. Lighting must have been bored before humans, before something could talk about it. Water translated light into dancing. There is more to say but I forfeit that to sleep. So what?

Blog #13/Jan 17. Describe Gaudi's aesthetic and discuss how it influences emotion. Specifically discuss at least 2 separate Gaudi structures.
Gaudi’s aesthetic is highly whimsical and nature-inspired. Through this aesthetic, Gaudi influences an emotion of youthfulness and wonder; viewers of his work feel like a kid again in a fairytale landscape. Casa Batllo is a prime example of this, with its colorful and whimsical roof, natural curves, and botanical motifs. His aesthetic also inspires Catalan national pride through his heavy use of Catalan symbolism and techniques, such as the use of Catalan tiles and trencadis seen throughout Parc Guell. When the structures were first built, it is most likely people felt shocked and confused, as Moderisme was so different from any styles seen before.

Week 1: Kinetic Type Examples
The most successful Kinetic Type Animations to me seem to be those that play on figures of speech and slang (visualising linguistic features like repetition, pause, and emphasis.), and use image and motion intentionally to add another layer of meaning to the typographical and audio aspects of the animation.

Above- Emotions- A Kinetic Typography, PixelVault: In this animation, words are manipulated to convey their meaning. Different typefaces are used across the animation.
Below: “HOLY SHIT” George Carlin Kinetic Typography, EndFormat Design Studio. This animation uses symbols and decorative typographic layouts and retro aesthetics to enhance the content.

Tumblr media
Above: In this animation, symbols replace some words (e.g religion Is replaced with a cross) and visual hierarchy is used in the same way as emphasis is in speech. The phrase here was “religion has actually convinced people...”. the slant of the convinced and the space around it emphasise it visually, as it is emphasised verbally in the audio, creating rhythm.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Above: In this animation, the animation pace echoes that of the audio. “he has a special place” stays static, while fire, burning, and smoke are flicked through rapidly (the audio was “he has a special place full of fire and burning and torture and anguish.”- the list of words is spoken very fast).
Below: Here, the word love is replaced with a love heart.
Tumblr media
Below- Curiosity: Kinetic Typography, Dan Palmer:
youtube
Here, the audio features repetition (in ourselves, in our families) which the animation takes advantage of by keeping the in static, moving the our and changing only the Selves/families. This creates a stronger connection between visual and audio.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Below: Here, the type is transformed into something else relevant to the context. The o becomes a puddle (the audio was “Curiosity becomes a well-spring). This enhances the meaning of the audio. Creating a new asset out of a pre-existing asset on the page gives a stronger flow and cohesion to the animation.

Below- Typography- Motion makes emotions, Albert Trencadis:
youtube
Type is manipulated to emphasise the meaning of the speech (the word space is scaled up, and proximity is played with).
Tumblr media
Below: Illustration is used to aid the meaning of the speech.
Tumblr media
Below: Layout relevant to the topic is used, creating a mood. ( the topic was Saul Bass, and this layout appropriates one of his designs).

'Trencadís' special editions, Vilarnau Cava
"Trencadís" is a kind of mosaic that was used in the modernist artistic movement in Catalonia, created from tiny fragments of broken ceramic tiles, roof tiles or crockery. The technique is also known as “pique assiette”, in French. The catalan architects Antoni GaudÍ and Josep MarÍa Pujol used 'trencadís' in many of their designs, the most famous probably being “Parc Güell in Barcelona. Vilarnau’s proximity to Barcelona (not just geographic but also spiritual) means it was natural for this artistic resource used by the winery. As a result some of our cavas are dressed as follows."
