Global Glamping Market Forecast and Analysis Report (2023-2032)
Tumblr media
The global glamping market is growing at a substantial CAGR of 10.50% in the upcoming years. The global glamping industry was estimated to be worth USD 2.3 billion in 2021 and was expected to be worth USD 4.18 billion by 2028.
Glamping Market, a portmanteau of "glamorous" and "camping," represents a burgeoning segment of the travel and hospitality industry that combines the adventure of traditional camping with the luxury and amenities of high-end accommodations. This market caters to travelers seeking unique, immersive outdoor experiences without sacrificing comfort and convenience. Glamping accommodations range from safari tents, yurts, and treehouses to more elaborate setups like geodesic domes, airstreams, and eco-pods, often equipped with plush bedding, en-suite bathrooms, electricity, and even Wi-Fi.
The growth of the glamping market is driven by several factors. There is a rising consumer preference for experiential travel, where people seek more than just a destination—they seek memorable and unique experiences. Millennials and Gen Z, in particular, are fueling this trend, valuing experiences over material possessions and often sharing their adventures on social media. This demographic shift is accompanied by a growing awareness and appreciation for nature and sustainable travel practices. Glamping sites often emphasize eco-friendly practices, such as solar power, composting toilets, and sourcing local, sustainable materials, aligning with the increasing demand for responsible tourism.
The market is highly diverse, with offerings tailored to various levels of luxury and types of experiences, from rustic and minimalist to opulent and extravagant. It attracts a broad audience, including families, couples, solo travelers, and corporate groups, seeking everything from romantic getaways to team-building retreats. Additionally, many glamping sites are located in scenic, off-the-beaten-path locations, providing access to natural beauty and outdoor activities like hiking, fishing, and stargazing.
The competitive landscape of the Glamping Market is characterized by a mix of specialized glamping providers, traditional hospitality brands venturing into the sector, and individual entrepreneurs transforming unique properties into glamping destinations. This diverse array of competitors creates a dynamic market environment with several key competitive factors:
Traditional Hospitality Brands:
Marriott International: Through its Autograph Collection, Marriott has ventured into glamping, offering luxury tents and cabins in scenic locations to attract high-end travelers.
Hyatt Hotels: With its Unbound Collection, Hyatt offers unique glamping experiences that combine luxury amenities with outdoor adventure, targeting a niche segment of the market.
Individual Entrepreneurs and Boutique Operators:
Entrepreneurs are capitalizing on the glamping trend by converting farms, vineyards, and private lands into glamping sites. These boutique operations often emphasize local culture, sustainability, and personalized service.
Competitive Factors:
Prime locations with stunning natural beauty, such as national parks, coastal regions, and remote wilderness areas, are crucial for attracting guests. Proximity to popular outdoor activities also enhances the appeal of glamping sites.
Unique and Luxurious Accommodations:
Differentiation through unique accommodation types (e.g., treehouses, geodesic domes, vintage airstreams) and high-end amenities (e.g., hot tubs, gourmet dining) is vital. Offering a blend of comfort and adventure attracts a broad demographic.
Eco-friendly initiatives, such as using renewable energy, composting toilets, and locally sourced materials, are increasingly important to environmentally conscious travelers. Demonstrating a commitment to sustainability can be a significant competitive advantage.
Experiential Offerings:
Providing unique experiences, such as guided hikes, wildlife safaris, stargazing, and cultural activities, enhances the overall appeal of glamping sites. Tailored experiences that cater to specific interests (e.g., wellness retreats, adventure sports) can attract niche markets.
Marketing and Branding:
Strong branding that emphasizes the unique aspects of the glamping experience, coupled with effective digital marketing strategies, is essential for attracting and retaining customers. Leveraging social media, influencer partnerships, and travel platforms helps increase visibility and reach.
Customer Service and Personalization:
Exceptional customer service and personalized touches, such as customized itineraries and attentive staff, enhance guest satisfaction and encourage repeat bookings. Building a loyal customer base through memorable experiences is key to long-term success.
Challenges and Opportunities:
High Initial Investment: Developing glamping sites with high-end amenities requires significant upfront investment. Operators must balance costs with potential returns to achieve profitability.
Regulatory Compliance: Navigating zoning laws and obtaining permits can be challenging, particularly in remote or protected areas. Ensuring compliance with local regulations is essential.
Seasonality: Glamping is often seasonal, with peak periods during warmer months. Operators must strategize to maximize occupancy year-round, possibly by offering off-season discounts or special events.

The Resort At Paws Up
Collective Retreats

memorial day weekend
sigh, i’m working on my last class, intermediate accounting III, which is a two part series. i passed my first test and got exemplary grades (lol) and now i have one more to knock out before end of month then i am officially done with my bachelors degree. i feel pretty stressed out on average and can’t wait for the days when i won’t have studying to do after work.
my director has still not gotten back to me about the new position. i followed up with him a month after he told me the job will be posted in a couple weeks. it’s been like a month and a half now? it’s still pending approval from compliance. anyway, my excitement for it has died down. there’s so many new changes in the populations i deal with in my current role that it’s been quite hectic - GSRs now unionized, new contract ratification for the housestaff and postdocs, voluntary series requiring formal reappointments and downsizing, etc. i don’t know what management’s plan is if i take the new role - i wonder if they’ll pay me a stipend to continue doing my current job until they find someone else. i don’t mind haha
i went to TN/smoky mountains with matt and his parents two weeks ago. the trip was overall nice but it wasn’t totally relaxing because i was worried about completing my degree on time. i felt stressed that the vacation was cutting into my work/studying time.
we did one night in nashville, 4 nights in ol’ smoky and one last night in nashville before heading back to NY. this was the first time that we flew out in two months (literally an accomplishment for us). after not traveling for a while, we realized how tiring the whole process is. after matt’s 7 days on, we do last minute errands, clean up the apartment, throw out all trash, water my plants, pack, carry our luggages over to the subway, be on the subway for 40-50 minutes (also this time we had a mini celebrity sighting - babish! - who was in the same cart as us), either take a shuttle or airtrain, check in, lounge or not, fly out, fly, deplane, etc.
the first 3 nights, we all shared a room which was.... too intimate. the second and third night we stayed at a treehouse. matt and i slept on the loft and his parents slept downstairs. the treehouse had an open air concept which i appreciate, but it was cold!!! the office was already closed by the time we checked in so we could not request any more blankets. we all had to layer up with our jackets to be able to sleep that night lol. the second night, i asked for 4 extra blankets and the lady looked at me like i was crazy.
in TN, i saw ‘hillbillies’/country folk in real setting for the first time lol there was a lot of obesity and visible mobility issues... i did not expect TN to be so lush! under canvas, the luxury tent service, was the highlight of the trip. matt and i had wanted to go to the one in acadia but could not justify the price. we had a big tent with a king sized bed and a little tent with two twins where matt’s parents slept. bathrooms and showers were communal. i am guilty of peeing in front of my tent early morning because i didn’t want to walk over. there also isn’t any cell signal or wifi on-site, which i felt was a good call. it really forces you to be in the moment and unplug from the busyness of life. in comparison, autocamp might be too comfortable to be a real city escape. there’s an ensuite restroom (hot shower, bathroom), high speed wifi, heater and AC, bluetooth/speakers, and a very comfortable tempurpedic mattress. under canvas is the more ‘primal’ luxury option.
the next thing we may fall prey to is the getaway house. we’re interested in checking out all the marketed glamping services.

Why And How Glamping Is Taking Over How People Travel
Tumblr media
Here’s a great article we found about the luxury camping market in the USA - this should give you a good idea of how it’s exploded and why it’s still a semi-untapped market in SA.
Whether it's luxury lodges, quaint cottages, state-of-the-art glamping tents or even treehouses, the way we camp has evolved over the years, and our expectations of vacations and travelling are higher than ever.
Millennials, the age group of those who are 38-19 who are often chided for "killing" traditional industries, are driving the demand for luxury camping vacations especially as the older cohort becomes parents, according to Curbed.
“Camping habits have changed drastically over the years," Glamping Hub founder and chief strategy officer Ruben Martinez told FOX Business. "Twenty years ago people tended to do traditional camping. Any version of a unique glamping accommodation felt out of most people’s price range. Now, our website has 30,000 (glamping) listings all over the world with something for everyone.”
Glamping is a portmanteau of the words "glamour" and "camping." Glamping.com describes glamping as the point “where stunning nature meets modern luxury,” a way to experience the remote and wild without sacrificing comfort. But Glamping can mean different things to different people. Roughly 34 percent of the camping population lists Wi-Fi and GPS as the most luxurious facility to have on a campsite, but others want showers, electricity, and refrigeration, according to Arizton’s 2019.
With glamping, you get access to certain parts of the environment that you just wouldn’t have access to otherwise — beautiful treehouses overlooking a Costa Rican beach," the Glamping Hub founder and executive said. "Hotels wouldn’t allow you that kind of closeness to nature."
- Ruben Martinez, Glamping Hub founder and chief strategy officer
The "glamping" market in the U.S. is projected to reach $4.8 billion in revenue by 2025 at an estimated CAGR rate of 12.5% during that forecast period, according to a recent Market Watch report from Oct. 6. And the demand for cabins and safari tents is expected to grow 2.5 times over the next five years. Meanwhile, between 2014 and 2018, growth in U.S. camping households has steadily increased, from 71,500,000 homes in 2014 to nearly 80,000,000 last year. Millennials represent the fastest-growing demographic in terms of new campers, with more and more diversity being represented amongst camping demographics.
“You don’t have to spend $10,000 (approximately R153,500) per night, although you certainly could if you wanted to. You can spend $45 (approximately R700) a night and have a level of comfort while camping in the most beautiful regions nature has to offer,” Martinez told FBN.
While glamping wasn't on the travel and hotel industry's radar until about five years ago, entire organizations and conferences have since emerged in recent years, all of which are dedicated to the glamping market. The American Glamping Association launched back in 2017 to offer accreditation and manage customer expectations. Then there is Glamping.com, Glamping Hub, and even a Glamping Summit USA.
Both RV ownership, as well as interest in luxury cabins, increased over the last few years, with “campers of all ages seeking to have a luxury cabin experience in 2018, outpacing all other accommodation options,” according to the 2019 camping report.
“Campers are excited to try new and different methods of camping, including full-service cabins, 'glamping' tents and van camping," according to Kampgrounds of America 2019 North American Camping Report. "Their excitement has spawned new and expanding extensions of the outdoor industry.”
As glamping “emerged and grew – likely via high rates of sharing on social media – we see another example of how campers have adopted the camping lifestyle in a way that works for them,” according to Kampgrounds of America's 2019 North American Camping Report.
Between 2014 and 2018, growth in U.S. camping households has steadily increased, from 71.5 million homes in 2014 to about 80 million last year. Millennials represent the fastest-growing demographic in terms of new campers, with more and more diversity being represented amongst camping demographics, reports Kampgrounds of America.
“Glamping has definitely gained popularity over the last two to three years, Martinez told Fox Business Network. "Something I’ve noticed more and more is the outside investment coming into the (glamping) industry.”
By 2025, the glamping market is projected to become a $4.8 billion industry, he said. Glamping touches every part of the outdoor industry, and it has been growing each year in popularity.
"That figure is probably pretty conservative, actually. Autocamp, I think they recently got a $125 million investment. There are quite a few camps and organizations that are receiving outside investments in large numbers, and a lot of these are just in U.S. Glamping is also going worldwide, from hotel chains and hoteliers who are basically saying (to glamping companies) that they have the cash and land and want to reinvent themselves. Just the accommodations and everything else involved like transportation, it could far exceed ($4.8 billion)" Martinez added.
The growing popularity of glamping appears to be directly proportional to changes in the way we vacation, with wellness tourism, adventure vacations and even corporate retreats making big inroads in the travel and tourism industry, with all three pioneering the art or glamping.
"When you have small kids and a family, sometimes having things like electricity, comfortable beds, and running water make for a better (camping) experience. If you have your family sleeping on the floor of a dark, cold tent or cabin, they might start asking 'why the heck are we doing this?'"
"It’s a win-win for everyone, and great for families," Martinez added.
Pricing for glamping can actually be surprisingly affordable, depending on the accommodations. Under Canvas, a glamping company that offers glamourous campgrounds in scenic spots through the United States, including the Great Smokey Mountains, Mount Rushmore, Yellowstone National Park and the Grand Canyon, prices their glamping accommodations between $150 (approx R2,300) per night for a 3-4 twin bed safari tent or closer to $400 (approx. R6,000) a night for luxury suites.
Included in the stay is "a private deck, wood-burning stove, and an en suite bathroom with hot running water, shower, sink, and a flushing toilet. But our Suite Tents take it a step farther with a bedroom wing with a king-sized bed, lounge area with a queen sofa bed, and the best location in camp. Camp cots and bedding can also be added for two people," according to the Under Canvas $399 luxury suite listing.
"Despite the more luxurious accommodations glamping provides, you're still very much in a remote area to disconnect, and that's something that I think resonates with a good portion of people worldwide, but especially families."
For those looking for cheaper glamping accommodations, the $199 (approx. R3,000) a night option features three twin beds, bedside tables, lanterns and USB chargers, shared community bathrooms with individual stalls, flushing toilets and other conveniences. Each Safari tent includes a wood-burning stove.

Your treehouse with bubble bath?!
To the Dutch and the Belgians, this country belongs to one of the most visited destinations. A country famous for its cuisine, beautiful landscapes and historical cities. Traveller visit this country for numerous reasons. Whether you go on a romantic city trip or take your caravan to visit the beach or the forests, this country has everything on offer. Obviously, we’re speaking of France!
France is located in Western Europe and shares its borders with Belgium, Luxembourg, Spain, Germany, Switzerland and Italy. We probably don’t need to mention, but the capital of France is the oh-so-romantic Paris. A great city with historical buildings and delicious cuisine. The city of love! However, France also offers interesting places to camp. There are plenty possibilities, such as camping near the sea, but also in the middle of the mountains or the forest. Its diversity was noticed by foreign visitors for a long time. Up until now travellers still visit this inspiring country from around the world.
Tumblr media
What we like about France is that they keep evolving within the camping industry, Nowadays, there are still plenty of traditional campsites in which you can find animation teams and hundreds of other campers. But an evolution within the glamping market emerged as well. Think of lovely bell tents or cabins in low scale camp sites. One particular cabin that we fell in love with is located in Labastide-de-Penne, which is part of the department of Tam-et-Garonne relatively south of France).
Tumblr media
The cabin is family friendly and accommodates 2 adults and 2 children. It includes a fully equipped kitchenette and even has a pool tub next door! There are plenty of activities to do in the surrounding area. Think of wildlife spotting, swimming or playing tennis.
