Vanam India Foundation: Growing a Greener Future

Vanam India Foundation, established in 2015, is a Tamil Nadu-based NGO focused on environmental conservation. With a team of over 1,000 trustees, it aims to combat global warming and climate change by promoting tree planting and increasing green cover. The foundation has planted over 7.5 lakh trees across government and private lands, ensuring proper growth through periodic care. Vanam promotes organic farming, water management, and sustainable practices. Its flagship project, Vanalayam, is a 18-acre eco-park in Palladam that educates the public about nature conservation. Permaculture Instructor Andrew Millison visits the largest reforestation project in the world in the Southern Indian States of Tamil Nadu and Karnataka with the Isha Foundation, founded by Sadhguru. Andrew spent 5 days traveling around the Cauvery River watershed looking at the work of the Isha Foundations' Cauvery Calling project, touring farms, nurseries, temples, and talking with Isha's field agents. Andrew then went to Isha's ashram in Tennessee and was able to directly question Sadhguru about the project.

something that pains me to no end is the knowledge that it would be completely unfeasible for me to plant american bittersweet, since asiatic bittersweet is so utterly dominant over my local environment, being well adapted to disturbance (human habitation), a vigorous grower, spread far and wide via berries the birds eat, and the hybrids of american and asiatic bittersweet have the potential to be even more aggressive. sigh............
